Reviews for Abbey Lodge Hotel
Review 1:Stayed here twice, lovely and helpful staff both occasions. The rooms on basement level seem to be in the best order. On my second stay, I was initially in a room next to the fire exit and it was quite noisy with people passing through. The staff kindly moved me in to a room downstairs. Breakfast nice but lacked choice.
Review 2:The bathroom and especially the shower needed regrouting. One l.ight above the bed was broken, and hanging. The TV did not work and only one chair was inadequate in a triple room.
Review 3:Staff informality and helpfulness. Excellent dining room and breakfast.
Review 4:The hotel would benefit from redecoration - particularly the corridors and restaurant.
Review 5:We booked at a special rate of 50% discount, which was excellent value for money. Good bed linen Lots of hot water Good breakfast
Review 6:Nothing bad really.
Review 7:Abbey Lodge provides a great and value for money stay. The location is pretty strategic since the high street takes less than 5 minutes by walk, not to forget buses and trains are easy to reach on since they are within the high street. The staff on the other hand have been really friendly, helpful and polite. I feel welcomed. Would recommend this lodge hotel to any of my friends or relatives in future.
Review 8:This place smells.........i`m not sure what of, possibly dry rot or somesuch, room very cramped, furniture old and tatty, place is like a kind of rabbit warren all stairs and narrow corridors and badly needing a total rebuild/refit.
Review 9:The eat all you want breakfast which was inclusive of the basic price and comfortable bed.
Review 10:Needed new mattresses (Room 42), the t.v. wouldn't hold a picture in the evening. No lift and two of the stair cases didn't have a rail to hold on to.
Review 11:Being able to park, the staff were very good and plenty to eat at breakfast. Needs a basket to throw the cereal packets in. The tea needed more tea bags, it was almost like water. Bathroom o.k good shower.
Review 12:Staff were great Very friendly Room was small but had everything we needed Bathroom clean Breakfast was not fancy but provided a descent feed Loved the location free internet and car park
Review 13:There wasn't anything the price I paid was fine for what u got
Review 14:The staff was very friendly and welcoming loads to select from for breakfast me and my little girl enjoyed our stay very good value for money
Review 15:It was not 100 per cent clean had abit of damp in comers of the wall But for the price I paid was a bargain
Review 16:It was friendly and could not fault the breakfast or any of the facilities
Review 17:Could hear couple arguing downstairs at night and somebody snoring below us so perhaps sound proofing could be better.
Review 18:Friendly, courteous welcome. Clean room and shower, Adequate breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 19:Clean basic room - very tired bathroom. Car park taken up by white vans and had to park on street, then had to move in morning before parking charges kicked in. Breakfast buffet was left over from contractors early start - looked dried up. Stuck with cereal and tinned fruit.
Review 20:Location was excellent
Review 21:Night time sounds of heating etc. Varies room to room. But then I never go any where without ear plugs so no problem. Single room supplements are a pain, but that's true of most hotels, B&B's.
Review 22:Receptionist very helpful . Personally found coffee and tea for us, so we could sit and socilaise after checkout. This isn't part of the standard service but reflects the attitude of the staff we encountered. This is your basic cheap and cheerful accomodation, nothing flash and the furniture has seen some road mileage but we were on a budget and it exceeded all our expectations: clean, warm, excellant self service breakfast. We would go back. I have stayed at other accomodation at this price and its one of the best.
Review 23:There was no lift. The shower was not very strong. The kettle lead did not reach the nearest power point. The furniture was a little dated.
Review 24:Staff we very friendly and welcoming. The bedding was clean and pristine. The rooms were clean. The breakfast was excellent, it was help yourself buffet style, good selection.
Review 25:Car park was very full and the surface was poor. Also no lighting so parking was tricky Hotel just needs a little facelift.
Review 26:Staff were very good. Night porter service
Review 27:The room was tiny, the bathroom was dirty and one of the windows wouldn't close properly. In fairness, we were in a rush so didn't complain
Review 28:Breakfast was okay and the staff were pleasant
Review 29:Sink was cracked. Night porter just let me in without checking I was a guest.
Review 30:Convenient for the railway station as I was travelling to London via train. Very helpful receptionist.
Review 31:no lift but it was fine
Review 32:its a lodge hotel so we dont really mind about the room facility, it was decent and clean even the price was quite cheap. what i love most is the big selection of breakfast they offered! great parking space too
Review 33:The noise! Everything creaks, thin walls, could hear my neighbour's phone calls.
Review 34:Friendly, helpful staff. Very good breakfast. The room itself was comfortable and clean.
Review 35:No one was serving at reception desk upon arrival, waited 2-3 minutes then walked down to restaurant and staff area to ask for help. We had a triple room with three single beds but one of the beds had a double duvet, apparently not enough single bed duvets...!
Review 36:Clean and tidy, rooms were on ground floor so not much walking with young children. Great value for money with breakfast included.
Review 37:The bathroom was not clean enough. The grouting was nasty and so was the toilet pan. Carpets looked grubby and the chairs in the dining room were definitely not clean.
Review 38:The staff were most helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The beds and pillows were comfortable and clean. Tea and coffee in the room. The room was quite clean.
Review 39:The room was very small and unfortunately there is a building site just next door. However that will not be permanent and the bed was comfortable. No local information in the room though and only the most basic tea making facilities. No safe either, which could be a drawback.
Review 40:The location was fine, just a few minutes walk into town. Staff were friendly enough and at breakfast our request for fresh cooked eggs was fulfilled.
Review 41:Only thing I didn't like was old stained carpet and paintwork.
Review 42:Good Breakfast. Clean bathroom.Comfy bed and good quality bedding. Friendly staff. Homely feel.
Review 43:Small tv in room and digital channels kept on getting interference
Review 44:Close to town and where my two oldest boys live, breakfast was great, and some where to park me car
Review 45:The main bedroom was very dusty and in need of a good clean. There was a lot of noise from the rooms around although it didn't last into the night it was a little disturbing!
Review 46:Bathroom was clean and the room was a fair size. Good TV with wifi freely available with good reception. bedding was nice but the bed itself a little firm.
Review 47:Water from the tap tasted disgusting and didn't go cold. Weird smells in the hallways.
Review 48:Staff were very friendly. Lots of parking out back. Breakfast was acceptable.
Review 49:I got stuck in the bath, unable to get out and had to be lifted out by my son.
Review 50:The room, the breakfast, the cheerfulness and helpfulness of the staff, the location.
Review 51:Your mobile questionnaire isn't working properly can't give a score. All good.
Review 52:Everything very easy. Quiet location comfortable bed lovely hot shower v comfortable.
Review 53:Hotel is a bit 'tired' and could certainly do with new carpets or the existing ones cleaned! They are dirty.
Review 54:Very helpful staff, especially lady on reception. Good breakfast. Good value for the money paid - you get what you pay for!
Review 55:We were for 6 days and they clean the room only once, I had to ask for towels, for paper, and to clean the room. Hot water finished in the middle of the shower. An spider with its web were with us all the stay.
Review 56:The carpets in both the rooms we were given were stained and almost thread.
Review 57:Good proximity to the town centre. It was reasonably clean and the breakfast was good.
Review 58:Nothing negative per se
Review 59:The breakfast was included and very good. Private parking was good. Room was OK for an overnight stop, only 5 minutes from the M40. Bargain price including breakfast
Review 60:I don't think they should call this a hotel, a lodge, guest house or B&b more appropriate. I was quite disappointed. Decor is tried & dated, felt like a hostel, divan bed kept rolling away from the wall. Thankfully I was only staying one night!
Review 61:Staff were nice & friendly, generally tidy room & facilities.
Review 62:Bed wasn't particularly comfortable but it wasn't really an issue for me as a 24 year old for one night.
Review 63:Fantastically helpful and genuinely friendly staff. Nice clean room and good bathroom with an excellent shower. Good breakfast as well.
Review 64:Stairs were steep to restaurant, would like to have known this at booking as I have quite severe arthritis, would have liked slightly larger room and one more pillow on bed (there were three) on a double bed, I found that a strange amount. Otherwise a pleasant stay, would defiantly recommend and return when next in area
Review 65:Location to son's university was good, room was fresh and clean, staff were friendly. Room rate was reasonable. Breakfast was plentiful and good value for money.
Review 66:Wasn't worth the price paid, could hear the hot-water boiler moving water around during the night, could hear the people talking in the room next to me, thin cheap duvets and rubbish beds.
Review 67:Easy check-in, pillows were good
Review 68:Not a bad experience but needed a little bit of decorating especially the stair ways.
Review 69:Made very welcome at check in and the lady was very helpful. Only a 10 minute minute walk to the town centre. Comfortable twin room.
Review 70:The rooms were a good size, clean and tidy. The staff were also very friendly, and polite. Also the fact that there was parking facilities at the hotel was a major advantage.
Review 71:At one point car park full & concerned my car. Might cause issues for access but talked to staff and all sorted. Option to park on street if required. No marking of parks so cars not well distributed in area.
Review 72:Breakfast was excellent
Review 73:The room was cold because the heating wasn't switched on.
Review 74:Quiet and conveniently located hotel, good breakfast. The highlight of our stay was the excellent service from Eva Maria, the extremely friendly lady on reception.
Review 75:The breakfast was superb. The location is very good - just a few minutes walk into the town centre. The large car park is very handy as all the roads around are limited hours.
Review 76:It is in need of a complete makeover and could be a very nice place to stay.
Review 77:The hotel is in a good location and could be a fantastic place to stay. Plenty of facilities to use in the room.
Review 78:Breakfast was included but we had to get to the airport by 9am and it wasn't available before 8am so we missed out.
Review 79:Good location, close to shopping centre.
Review 80:Not clean, generally shabby state of repair. More of a builders digs than a hotel. Grimy, very unclean so much so I thought we might catch something. Breakfast looked okay but dining room filthy. Curtains hanging off wall. Light switches broken. Wall light mounted so low pillow touched it. Couple having loud argument next door all night! Generally not a nice place for children and we would definitely not go back or recommend it.
Review 81:Location, pleasant staff.
Review 82:used this as a rest after spending the day at Rugby in London travelled from Lincolnshire so it was a tiring day but got no sleep Complained about people upstairs talking very loudly and banging about all night and morning staff where not bothered. Very small bed booked a double but bed was small.
Review 83:Breakfast was good
Review 84:Damp walls, poor decor,no soap, iron/boards/ladders in coridors, foul language of next room loudness no sleep. Manger lettingreceptionist deal with our complaints and only £20 off bill
Review 85:Only the kind and helpful receptionists
Review 86:we could hear a lot of noise well into the evening up until 10.15pm. It sounded like a washing machine spinning every half an hour this was very annoying as we had a busy day the following day and it kept us awake
Review 87:Friendly helpfuil staff
Review 88:My baby is crawling and there was rather a lot of stuff on the floor under the edge if the bed... Skittle (sweets) filter papers from smoking stuff and peanuts... We had three rooms and all the baths could do with a really good clean including the plug holes... A free soap to wash our hands would of been appreciated too xx
Review 89:Free wifi and breakfast was amazing none of the keep it hot under heat lights which dry it out... Plenty of choice and very very tasty xx
Review 90:Bathroom mouldy, room had what looked like damp pathches on wall, very noisy neighbours which ruined our sleep. No lift reception was friendly, but breakfast waiter/staff didn't engaged in any conversation
Review 91:The Breakfast Smell going all around the Hotel . Plus No Towels. Furniture needs up dating but served its purpose.
Review 92:Nice fresh Sheets and no stale Water Smell like some Old B/B.
Review 93:The blind allowed too much light to enter the room but had I rembered my eye mask this would not have been an issue.
Review 94:All the staff were professional and pleasant and the owner himself works in all areas e.g kitchen, reception. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and the shower extremely powerful. The breakfast was of a high standard and plentiful.
Review 95:The front desk reception was very welcoming. In the context of overnight travelling for 3 adults the price was very good. Made a welcome change from Travelodge type establishments. Breakfast smelled good as we left but 8 o'clock start was too late for us. 7 would have been much better
Review 96:Awfully furnished and poor in general. Breakfast was self service congealed fat fry up that had been cooked some time before. Full of contractors drinking & swearing - very noisy. They're obviously doing well as the owners are driving a Bentley and Aston Martin?
Review 97:Not a lot
Review 98:Found a pubic hair in one of the coffee mugs supplied in the room.
Review 99:Good location. Enjoyable breakfast with a good selection. Pleasant staff. Comfortable, though basic room.
Review 100:The hotel is in need of some tlc.
Review 101:Good location to wander into High Wycombe, though if walking a problemyou do have to go up quite a steep hill. Breakfast was good- buffetstyle help yourself.
Review 102:The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The room was basic but bright and clean and represented very good value for money. The Abbey Lodge is located on a quiet street just a short walk from the train station and the centre of town.
Review 103:Could do with a refurb - carpets changing & a fresh lick of paint. Some of the fixtures & fittings could also be updated, but all functional & clean.
Review 104:Very helpful staff, beds very comfortable, close to amenities
Review 105:Staff members eating from their hand in dining room. Beds with large dips in so no support. Dirty linen left in hall ways which we had to step over!
Review 106:Close to the town
Review 107:Room maybe a bit small for anyone planning to stay for more than one night.
Review 108:Very good English breakfast buffet. Clean, tidy room. Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 109:Nice small hotel, close to town. Clean and comfortable enough for a short stay like we did. Very close to town and the train station. Added bonus: breakfast was included!
Review 110:Tea & coffee in the room was not good. Hotel was fully so staff found it difficult to cope with the amount of people for breakfast. Ran out of glasses cutlery etc
Review 111:Cleanliness of the room
Review 112:The staff were flexible and accommodating as well as very friendly. The room was very clean, well arranged and the beds were comfortable. It was an ideal location for us and great value.
Review 113:The dirt in the bedroom not cleaned properly Dirty carpets. Extractor fan in bedroom not working on arrival. Noise until mid night and staring again 5.00am. The bedrooms were built with plaster board walls
Review 114:Nothing
Review 115:Didn't like the double bed being against the wall and the mattress was more tired than we were! Cooked breakfast could have been hotter.
Review 116:Cheery warm welcome. All the staff were friendly.
Review 117:Breakfast was a poor choice of pr-cooked items such as scrambled eggs that had dried out, bacon that was like card board, i.e. the constituents had been in trays for too long. Also the toasters took so long to make a decent piece of toast. But please do not condem see what I did like.
Review 118:On our last breakfast we had worked out the best way to get a good meal was to as, and not accept what was ln offer, result I had 2 freshly poached eggs on fresh toast, I put bread in toaster, ate my cereal, then gkt the toast out properly done, excellent.
Review 119:breakfast was very good for the hot buffet, but only cereal and milk for starters, they ran out of tin fruit, which seems stupid, bad housekeeping, surely when you see low stocks, you order more before running out. , it is only tin fruit, easy to see them going down. Also the dining room was rather tired, the padded chairs were dirty and split in places, and stair carpet looked as if it could do with a good clean. In spite of this, we enjoyed our stay and the staff were very friendly.
Review 120:we had a very nice room, clean bedding and good size bathroom with a good shower - most important - ,really liked the duvets, feather and very light, thinking of getting some for our beds
Review 121:Badly in need of redecoration. Grubby with ingrained dirt and the room smelled of stale smoke. Ingrained dirty curtains and vents in bathroom. Needs a deep clean and redecoration.
Review 122:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 123:I found it a little noisy after 9pm with other guests talking outside in the hallway and walking up and down the corridors. It only affected me because I had two small children with me.
Review 124:The staff were friendly and it was easy to find with signs as I didn't have a sat nav. Room was secure and basic but comfortable, bath was useful for small children. Breakfast was lovely. We had a good stay.
Review 125:No toiletries, well, only one type and no soap. Toilet seat worse than a child's toy. Room doors really cheap and allow noise through & with no interior lock so you have to put the key in to lock it. My bathroom door did not shut. At 11.45 someone went through the corridor really noisy & midnight someone tried to unlock my door! At 3.45m the water tank (above my room so I'm told) started making loud noises. At 6am, again loud guests in the corridor. Between 6am & 8am, waster tank noises. Walking down to breakfast, disgusting burnt something (toast?) bad smell in corridor. I did get an apology for the water tank noise from reception desk but I was not offered a reduction in the price. At £45, this place was overpriced. The decor is very poor. The toiletries were in a badly placed basket on the sink edge. At £50 I have stayed in far nicer and slept much better. I did not feel comfortable. I will not stay here again.
Review 126:Breakfast was just about adequate but I would not trust the scrambled eggs which looked (along with the tomatoes) rather strangely dark.
Review 127:Fire doors all wedged open! Would have preferred proper teapots at breakfast - tea came in a flask and wasn't very nice
Review 128:Staff helpful. Good location
Review 129:Decor a little shabby in some areas but mostly very good
Review 130:Building with lots of character. All staff had a smile and very freindly and welcoming attitude. Breakfast excellent quality and variety. Room comfortable. Good value for money
Review 131:Night receptionist had very loud conversation with other guests right outside our room which was next to reception.
Review 132:Convenient for local amenities and good value for money.
Review 133:This was once a great hotel, but is now becoming very tatty, needing money spent on it. A lick of paint, loo roll holder, grab rails on the stairs etc. Otherwise, easy walk in to town, really good staff.
Review 134:AMAZING BREAKFAST
Review 135:Bed matress quality was not great & wife had problems sleeping.
Review 136:Used it as base for last 2 days in UK before leaving via Heathrow. Local museum great. Towns on Thames R fairly close, can access London by train easily. Off street parking good. Price per night OK all considered.
Review 137:The plumbing system rattled when a lot of people used it and disturbed a good nights sleep and the room is in need of a lick of paint and a good dusting
Review 138:The location was ideal for our visit and the breakfast was very good
Review 139:This hotel is by no means a luxury hotel but for that price it can't be beaten. rooms are a little small but are fully equipped and we had a great power shower. We just needed a place to stay for walking on the chilterns (which was 5 minutes away by car) and this place ticked all the right boxes. breakfast was buffet hot and cold and did not disappoint. you can request poached or fried eggs if you don't fancy the scrambled egg put out. Would definitely stay again for a walking weekend just not for a romantic getaway. outstanding value for money.
