Reviews for The Rugby Hotel
Review 1:The room has dirty drip marks and splatters on the walls, and the shower was mouldy. The staff also booked us a taxi for the wrong venue and we had to pay the taxi driver extra for the wasted trip. The parking at the hotel in non existent, so you have to park in the Asda car park, but they don't tell you that before you go, so there was a lot of wasted time trying to figure out where to park the car, and we both woke up with back pain.
Review 2:The location was in the middle of shops and bars which was good for us as we were in the area for a night out. The price was also reasonable as we booked early. The staff were friendly, and keen to help where they could.
Review 3:Parking is not good. Meal in the bar took a long time to arrive. Bathroom needed a little bit of attention..
Review 4:The convenience - being in the middle of rugby.
Review 5:Situated opposite Wetherspoons which has a noisy nightclub until 3 am. Bedroom was compact and ensuite facilites very small.
Review 6:Central location. Used to be called Three Horseshoes hotel with excellent reputation. Close to Rugby School. Lovely old building. Back rooms probably a lot quieter. Cleanliness was good.
Review 7:Shower didn't work. Sound proofing to outside really bad - kept awake till very late. carpets, decor, furniture...everything very dated. Needs big facelift to become the good hotel it was year ago
Review 8:Location
Review 9:Property was not very clean - common areas badly needed vacuuming which I can forgive, but our room was not spotless and that is not good. We were in a rush so admittedly we did not report this to staff so unsure how they would have rectified. Very cheap bedding and uncomfortable foam pillows although mattress itself was comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful though.
Review 10:No onsite free parking - parking was in a nearby Asda car park that was very busy and it was not somewhere we were happy to leave our (brand new!) car overnight.
Review 11:No more free parking. Reduced price, but no more free!
Review 12:You can't get a more central located accomodation in Rugby. Very kind staff members. Plenty of restaurants nearby
Review 13:Communication breakdown between Booking.com and Hotel as night porter was not informed of our late arrival.
Review 14:Very friendly and obliging night porters David and Richard? especially on arrival at 2.00 am.
Review 15:No place to park that was convenient. especially for unloading if you arrive when car's are not allowed on the road.
Review 16:Great location, right downtown
Review 17:Birthday party in reception ,entrance hall. Unable to get in front door at first ,then unable to get upstairs, couldn't believe what was happening. Poor room shower didn't work. No staff to complain to . Food was atrocious .
Review 18:I requested on the booking.com comments a quiet clean room with good wifi access. They initially allocated me on an extremely noisy room, then on a used not clean room with used towels in the bathroom, not clean toilet and poor wifi access. Then I changed room for the third time and it was all right, not great and not ideally clean. Also false alarm rang just after 7.30 am on a Sunday!!! I think this was a very bad choice of hotel
Review 19:Only location and breakfast
Review 20:Cramped washroom facilities. Bedside light switch not accessible from bedside, without standing up. Help yourself ready cooked breakfast is not a good idea.
Review 21:Well located. Pleasant old building. Helpful staff. Attached restaurant served excellent food.
Review 22:Very friendly staff, located perfectly for the shops, bars & restaurants, no parking outside but this wasn't a real issue, you can park a minutes walk away, I would highly recommend
Review 23:Upstairs corridors and rooms smelled of cooking oil, and were very warm.
Review 24:The food in the 'Sheep Street Chop House' side of the Hotel was very good.
Review 25:The hotel is obviously very old and this does give it a lot of charm however the rooms do need modernsing. The windows need replacing and new bathrooms are a must. The shower is not fir for purpose. I spent a lot of time trying to get the right temperature and even then the water was luke warm. In terms of value for money the Premier Inn is a much better option. Rooms are bigger, beds are bigger and they supply Hypnos beds which are the best beds for comfort. The night that we stayed was a hot day and so come the evening the temperature was unbearable walking into the room. There is no A/C which was very much needed. At least a fan could have been supplied! When I went to order some Ice through room service I noticed there would be a £5 charge to come to the room so quickly cancelled this. Overall its a nice building, great location, staff are friendly but if a good night sleep is what your after then I would chose an alternative option.
Review 26:Location is brilliant and the receptionist was polite and friendly enough. I have styed here many times before primarily for the location as when I do come to Rugby it is often for meeting friends in the local drinking establishments.
Review 27:The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows were awful. Very noisy floorboards. The shower was hot and cold. Definitely poor value for money
Review 28:location and staff
Review 29:The room did not have air conditioning, so it got a tad warm at night. Thankfully there was a window that I could leave open.
Review 30:The hotel staff were polite, friendly, and helpful. The hotel is located right in the heart of Rugby, with numerous bars, pubs and restaurants within walking distance.
Review 31:Free parking... In Asda car park around the corner. The food wasn't up to scratch. Try cleaning the shower. The room was more like my box room at home.
Review 32:Water pressure poor at 8am. Shower stopped working mid wash!!
Review 33:Clean room except for pillow case lying on the floor behind door. Probably got overlooked.
Review 34:Very strange occurring during the night...is the hotel haunted? Breakfast didn' live up to the menu no ham ,cheeses ,or fruit salad,I had to go searching for the ketchup ,as waitress disappeared
Review 35:Clean room pleasant staff
Review 36:The room was small, shabby, not very clean ,mattress very uncomfortable, and I'd paid extra for an upgrade to a King room, when I asked if they had something nicer they said we already had the best they had.
Review 37:The building was old and quirky a lot of character and there was a jazz band on which my husband and I enjoyed
Review 38:Really good stay but it would have been helpful to know about parking before we got there. Also website needs updating as parking g now £5
Review 39:Central position
Review 40:Rooms were very very basic. What I would expect in a cheap roadside motel. Super small TV with doddgy remote. Small room. No parking
Review 41:Location and the bar
Review 42:Self service English breakfast. "Hot food", coffee and water for tea were all cold. No staff at breakfast for first 10 minutes.
Review 43:Very convenient location
Review 44:The parking set-up is weird, using nearby public car parks. They're free, but if you arrive after 5.30 you'll need to move your car before about 8.30 in the morning. As I said, it's weird; but I had to be out and on the road by 8am anyway so it wasn't a problem.
Review 45:The staff, the building, the central location
Review 46:served the wrong meal and did not offer a discount, nobody apologised. Hotel not in good condition. Parking 400 yards away. WiFi inconsistent. Bathroom a disgrace.
Review 47:central location
Review 48:Bed was a bit creeky, also the room we stayed in backed on to the alley way, we were woken a few times in the early morning to people who had been enjoying themselves a little to much in the local clubs.
Review 49:Excellent location in the heart of the town.
Review 50:Loud dance music late at night from nearby club premises, went on for over three hours. Hot water failed so we used the electric kettle for hot water to wash and shave.
Review 51:Central in Rugby
Review 52:probably needed more staff - a lot to do for one man whoi did it with a smile on his face
Review 53:reception excellent - same man did breakfast waiters job - very nice chap
Review 54:Lack of hot water in the morning, tiling round bath was mouldy and cracked, very poor bar service and a cold breakfast! This hotel really needs a makeover.
Review 55:Very convenient location.
Review 56:Parking misleadingly far away - had to walk through town, shopping mall and up 2 lifts into parking building to get "free" parking which was closed 7pm-7am. Price did not include breakfast which given the overall experience made it just ok. TV connection broken, dirty window sills.
Review 57:They changed our room to a slightly bigger room as TV broken in original room. Nice traditional entry hall.
Review 58:The shower with no hot water when you turn both hot and cold tap on; you turn off the cold, then you get the water too hot to take a shower. The noise that went on till 3 in the morning.
Review 59:Location, location, and location.
Review 60:the only downside is the racket comeing from the bar over the road but it isa town centre hotel so you would expect to here a bit of noise
Review 61:the staff were efficient and freindly the bar is nice and cosy.the room was basic but comfartable on the whole a pleasure to stop there
Review 62:Too many stairs to go up and down with suitcases without help; bathrooms/showers too small; decoration a bit sad in some rooms.
Review 63:Staff were very helpful and very welcoming; there's a solution to every problem; food is excellent though a bit pricey. It's got some character.
Review 64:There was a strange brown stain on the floor by the toilet. The shower had mould growth and a musty smell permeated the room.
Review 65:The reception staff were fairly helpful. The bed was comfortable and clean.
Review 66:The shower tray did not drain. Consider I have a No. 2 haircut the hairs that where left in my shower twice after cleaning could no way have been mine. Having reported the non draining shower twice to be told a checkout that it was a known problem with that room was not good enough. The measly £10 reduction in bill was an insult.
Review 67:Room was cold, insufficient warmth from the central heating radiator. Limited selection on Restaurant men., Main dish required additional dishes for a complete meal with additional cost.
Review 68:The old building gave the rooms character.
Review 69:Very bad shower/bathroom facilities. Shower in fact barely worked. The hotel was, frankly, run down, and appeared in need of major work to get it fit for purpose.
Review 70:Bathroom; weak flow in shower; tiles missing . Would have liked an armchair in room to sit and read. Breakfast a bit basic, but I'm not demanding. Would have liked a muesli and better fresh fruit selection.
Review 71:Location is very central. nice relaxing ambience around the hotel. Lovely big sofas off bar to sit and read/work. Comfortable bed. Reception staff and lady in bar very friendly.
Review 72:Waited 20 minutes before someone approached us to take our order for breakfast. When the kitchen door was open you could see the staff sitting down chatting. The service was very poor and the waitress did not seem concerned when we asked for the bread and orange juice to be replenished.
Review 73:The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly, and willing to help. The Night Manager was very friendly and polite.
Review 74:Car park 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Night club opposite therefore loud music playing until 3 am. The bed was very hard...almost park bench like. The ensuite was very small....no bath. Finish in the rooms is very basic. Don't ask for a brandy coffee as it will cold and spilt on the table without being cleaned up. The receptionist gave us the wrong token to exit the car park therefore we had to faff about getting security to open the barriers. I wouldn't stay here again.
Review 75:Central location
Review 76:Continental breakfast was disappointing. The food generally was average and did't reflect the standard of the hotel. There are very few good eating places in Rugby especially in the evening and the hotel would benefit by improving its menus
Review 77:Friendly welcome on arrival. Warm, cosy atmosphere. Simple style of bedroom, basic but all amenities functioned well.
Review 78:can back after evening odered a sandwich from menu in room only to be told the was none as they have nobody to prepare anything !! why advertise food 24 hrs a day !!,,,no lifts which i could have done with have i had just had an operation on my foot, window unsafe as i opened it drooped back down and trapped my hand ouch !!
Review 79:Great Location for town, Lovely, friendly staff
Review 80:Only problem was poor wifi but that may be due to room location
Review 81:Everything really.Location great.Staff friendly and helpful.Rooms clean with good facilities.Breakfast which was the only meal I had time for was excellent and served in a warm and welcoming dining room.I would definitely go back.
Review 82:the desperately noisy fan which went on and off intermittently all night; the shabbiness of all surfaces, whereby they had been given a coat of paint or had been covered in plastic, but still the undercoat showed through; no hooks in the rooms; the ghastly Sunday breakfast (presumably cook was off?); sadly it had gone from a cosy and comfortable Inn (The Three Horseshoes) to a very second-rate guest house.
Review 83:the very helpful staff; the central location; the comfortable bed
Review 84:Perfect location for Rugby school. I do like a bath and shower but though the place is basic it has everything you actually need for a short stay and the staff are delightful and most helpful.
Review 85:The rooms are small, but then who is there to spend all their time in their room?
Review 86:The staff could not do enough to help and were extremely friendly. The food and atmosphere were good. The location was great both for wandering around Rugby, and as a base for visiting other centres in the region.
Review 87:Wifi was difficult to use and though my husband managed to use it on his laptop after a couple of days of trying I would have had to alter all my settings and mess about so I just used a dongle. THE ROOM - you decide... shower was the slowest trickle ever and would have taken all morning to use though water still poured out of the head when you were only running a bath! all taps needed new washers because they couldnt be tightened off so constantly ran and wasted water. The shower was against a pattered glass window but no curtain so no real privacy there and the shower head was just attached against the window edge so you couldnt get close enough because of the taps anyway and the bathroom window simply did not fit and would not close beyond a gap of 3 inches so option of fresh air was decided for you when you wanted a nice warm bathroom. The kettle was disgusting and I went out to mc.donalds down the street for all my coffees instead. The actual fabric of the room was very run down and poorly maintained. Broken wood on frames and paintwork all worn off, black mould on all the tile groutings in both rooms I saw and had. Hole in the bath that my husband thought was a large black spider at first glance and then kept refering to it as the bullethole bath.No means as we could descover of locking the main window so security might be an issue though we had no problem with it ourselves. Our view was out into the back yard of the hotel with just a fire escape and mess and weeds growing out of walls and gutterings etc. You get the picture anyway - I could go on...and on....
Review 88:the sensible attitude of the cleaner - I know it sounds a bit strange to think of this first but you know how it is when you get your bed just how you like it and then they re-make it and you have to start all over again well she employed thoughtful sense and left mine how i needed it. LOCATION really couldn't be better. Liked some of the period furniture and the look of the downstairs of the hotel - shame about the disparity with the standard of the rooms!
Review 89:Not ready in the morning when housekeeping called was left towels and toilet rolls outside door. Went out for day and when we got back we asked for more tea bags and milk and was told they would bring some up waited an hour then went out still had no tea and milk do informed reception and was told they would put some in the room for when we returned got back late and had to go ask again for tea and milk as they had not put any in the room, night porter went and got us a jug of milk and teabags like a cuppa before bed and first thing in morning .
Review 90:The bed was very comfy, and town centre location.
Review 91:The room was extremely noisy as there seemed to be a very lively Rugby nightlife taking place just outside. The hotel interior was just as noisy - our room was right by a connecting door and one morning we were woken by the door repeatedly being opened and closed loudly - later we found out that the noise was being caused by a member of staff
Review 92:The location is excellent, and the building pretty and historical. Staff friendly and helpful although instructions on how to reach Warwick castle were so complicated we gave up.
Review 93:Not enough room to swing a cat in the on suite. I'm am a petite woman and still felt cramped and uncomfortable. The water wouldn't run hot. When brought to the attention of staff was essentially told well tough. Haven't got any other rooms and made to feel degraded as he continued to fiddle with the temperature, with the persistent question this still not hot enough for you, you sure? Requests for an iron and fan were dealt with a when I get round to it attitude. In fact staff had to be reminded of requests. Not sure whether this is due to lazy staff, a prejudice because of my age and gender or was just seen as a soft touch. Either way £140+ for 2 nights is extortionate for the service I received.
Review 94:The bed was nice and was cleab
Review 95:Room was far too warm. Temperature outside was 28 during the day and the heating was on in hotel! Also a fault with smoke alarm continually beeping
Review 96:Excellent location. Looked great from outside. I would stay again
Review 97:The hotel is in the center of old town with pubs all around which is nice except for the noise. The weather was warm and with no air conditioning we kept our windows open. As the bars emptied out on a Saturday night we heard all the revelers as they left, then we heard them empty the trash of glass bottles and later heard the trash trucks as then came a gathered the trash. All in all though, I would stay there again.
Review 98:Loved the ambiance and location in town. Rooms were clean, a good size though plainly outfitted. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 99:Pleasant staff
Review 100:Slightly cheaper would have made it excellent.
Review 101:Good location and very friendly staff.
Review 102:Location. Good parking in Asda by rear entrance. Good breakfast.
Review 103:Wanted to order a sandwich, but couldn't as staff didn't have keys to kitchen, but when came back there were people eating food.
Review 104:Homely feel
Review 105:Old family rooms and a renovation in them is required. My room was not clean. No lift, no parking,
Review 106:Good location and helpful staff.
Review 107:the bathroom very poor the shower very poor the bedroom needs to be remodel for the price only had bar snack
Review 108:staff friendly
Review 109:awful bathrooms, cold breakfast, rooms dated and grubby
Review 110:great location, comfortable beds, very helpful staff
Review 111:Convenient Location
Review 112:The smell of the room was smokey and the water pressure in the shower was very low
Review 113:Convent for in town
Review 114:Breakfast not included in price
Review 115:Friendliness of staff!
Review 116:Perfect stop over for driving to France from Scotland, friendly staff clean rooms
Review 117:2 single beds in a 'king' room. lots of noise from workers renovating the hotel.
Review 118:nothing
Review 119:great location, staff were very helpful, breakfast and dinner were terrific
Review 120:Street side, just a little noisy
Review 121:The sympathy of the persons, the decoration, the style of the rooms
Review 122:The en suite facility needed to be upgraded
Review 123:We liked the central position of the hotel.
Review 124:Refurbishment being done on a weekend .
Review 125:Price of room
Review 126:the shower was a disgrace. no pressure in the water, curtain was sticking and the vent was not working
Review 127:the people were really nice
Review 128:Very nice Hotel, would recommend.
Review 129:limited parking resources
Review 130:general manager and hotel staff very professional and accommodating
Review 131:Hotel is very tired,it needs new windows to stop street noise
Review 132:The location is very good the Hotel looks impressive from the street
Review 133:The breakfast was not as good as I had hoped but adequete for my needs.
Review 134:The location was excellent for getting around Rugby.
Review 135:No hanger for towels Internet not working well no lift no Gym
Review 136:Position Personnel Clean
Review 137:The bathroom was dirty especially around the bath and shower taps. The shower curtain was mouldy too.
