Reviews for Wallett's Court Dover Spa Hotel

Review 1:Breakfast was a tad slow though there had been some problems with deliveries ... fair enough. I think the spa is starting to look a bit tatty round the edges but this didn't spoil my visit.

Review 2:Love the atmosphere, staff, drunken ghost stories, food, food, food is the absolute best. I love the location and how peaceful the place feels. I have stayed before and I think it has got better. Did I mention the food? It feels like you've been welcomed into a friend's home but you don't have to spend any time with them! (I'm very unsociable!)

Review 3:Not such great waitressing at breakfast. Not enough vegetarian food on menu at breakfast. Dinner was delicious but such rich food, made me fee rather stuffed!

Review 4:Such friendly and helpful staff, made me feel very welcome

Review 5:We didn't get the chance to try the afternoon tea which seemed very popular.

Review 6:We loved the four poster rooms and the food was simply amazing. The staff were very accommodating with our baby and helped whenever they could. Probably the best massage I've ever had!

Review 7:This year the staff were somewhat surly and clearly demotivated; their approach to service was unprofessional and the cooking was haphazard. The overall impression was of a place that is having a poor time after its glory days and the pride and joie de vivre, let alone the passion for putting something good on the plate - have evaporated. It happens in the hospitality business.

Review 8:We have stayed there many times when travelling to France and it has always been pleasant - the location is excellent

Review 9:No condiments on table, coffee the worst we have ever had. Room very dirty and toilet not screwed to floor. Our clothes were damp and so was bedding.

Review 10:The food good

Review 11:Beautiful building and surroundings, decor in keeping, efficient & friendly staff, spa was lovely and Mary the massage theripist has magical hands!

Review 12:Was there for a wedding meal which we had in the conservatory which was very good , staff were very attentive. Bed very comfortable , didn't get a chance to use the spa, hopefully another time.

Review 13:Property was spread out into a number of outbuildings. I have stayed at a number of similar and superior hotels both at home and abroad and felt that the room was overpriced.

Review 14:Location was good , breakfast served in the conservatory was excellent .

Review 15:Don't just use this hotel as a stop over for the ferry. It's a beautiful hotel and is something very special we intend to go back for a long weekend

Review 16:The wines on offer do not come up to the quality of the food. Wine list needs to accommodate at least two fine winner wines. A Pinot noir and a good white Burgundy would be a good starting point.

Review 17:Food in the restaurant was excellent.

Review 18:Only negative comment is that at dinner the broad beans had not been popped out of their horrid outer skins.

Review 19:Was greeted by name coming down to breakfast. Delicious dinner.

Review 20:No wifi. But, the exemplary staff and the hotel's wonderful ambiance made up for it. Even our teenage daughter didn't mind.

Review 21:A wonderful hotel. Beautiful and peaceful country surroundings. Exemplary staff. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 22:Its not a bad point really, but the service in the dining room can be a bit slow....but I think thats more about us then the hotel as it is a place to relax.

Review 23:We just love the pace, the personal service, the quirkiness of the set up...just fab

Review 24:We stayed here for the first time just after new year and had a very good experience, which is why we came back. Unfortunately this time wasn't so good: service in the restaurant was poor. We booked dinner at 8pm and came down just before 8 - the first food (bread and canapés) was served at 8.40pm - this is slow service. There was some problem in the kitchen - the waiter came out to say that the chef wasn't happy with one of the starters and had taken it off. He then came back again and said the chef was now happy and it was back on - this doesn't inspire confidence! Service at breakfast was slow. And again for afternoon tea. The place is definitely in need of an upgrade in terms of décor - needs new bathrooms (noticed this the first time we stayed). Was surprised to see on using the ladies on the 1st floor at one point that there was no loo roll in one of the cubicles - this is below standard. Surprised that person on reception didn't know where Martin Mill station was (had never heard of it) when we wanted to order a taxi to take us there. Wallett's Court - you need to up your game to be on a par with other equivalent places we stay at. We'd like to come again, so please take note of this review!

Review 25:Location, quality of food, staff try to be helpful (but see re service above).

Review 26:I wish I could have prolonged my stay because of the amazing experience I had at the hotel. The staff, the rooms, the facilities and the atmosphere of the hotel was above and beyond my expectations, The hotel could have more tepee tents and cabins.

Review 27:Did not like the animal skins on the bed!

Review 28:The spa facilities, pool and steam room were all very good. I loved waking to bird song and peaceful surroundings.

Review 29:Nothing.

Review 30:The authenticity. The setting, the house, the history, the grounds, the spa. The restaurant is exceptionally good. Impressed that hens in the hotel grounds provided the breakfast eggs! Impeccable service. So much nicer than a generic, corporate hotel.

Review 31:Well it was disappointing - it was the second time we'd stayed - this was our wedding anniversary as we'd spent our wedding night here. The room was fine but it was little things like only one pack of biscuits and very limited tea, coffee and milk. The bed stead seemed to over power the bedroom and with a based that made it uncomfortable getting in and out. The changes continued at breakfast. It was disappointing. You even have to do your own toast in a machine with no directions - which after 3 minutes produced toast done on one side only. The main breakfast was limited and with only one sausage and a thin rasher my husband was not impressed. At £95 the price was plenty and unless you are really going for a full spa break then it's really over priced even at that.

Review 32:Location is lovely. Cow shed rooms were nice with a back door and outside seating.

Review 33:All good really. Some plumbing issues, but that can happen

Review 34:We god a huge room with every convenience.Very modern and above the free pool and spa.Very nice staff, and dinner was above average for the price.Good breakfast too

Review 35:The bathroom, although clean, needs refurbishing and it is not a 4 star hotel bathroom at all. Being charged 5£ extra for 2 cups of tea made by ourselves in the room (tap water, tea bag and kettle with limescale) is also not appropiate from a 4 star hotel. The breakfast was excellent but the service during dinner was slow. We waited more than 20 min from first to second course and they forgot the desserts having to remind them. After all, the beef was not rare as requested but too well done and hard. In summary, we had a nice weekend and, in theory, we had 50% discount and paid 90£/night for the doble room which was ok. However, there are lovely accomodation for 90£/night in the UK. If we had paid what it was suppossed to be full price and expect to find a 4 star hotel it would have been dissapointing.

Review 36:Nice room and lovely breakfast. The spa and the gym were perfect for a relaxing weekend. The location is very good for cycling or walking the surroundings.

Review 37:No draft beer most likely to keep out the riff raff but no matter will be back

Review 38:The evening meal was very good well done that chef plus a nice place to be

Review 39:Noisy room as over the restaurant. Wifi was very intermittent and didn't work for most of the evening.

Review 40:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Better portion sizes in restaurant than previous visits.

Review 41:the breakfast hasn't improved as in the toaster you provide is not big enough and would suggest purchasing a catering one (i.e one on a chain)! also still not displaying the continental option of pastries and meats, not advertising porridge and no smoked haddock!! these are things you receive even in a lower budget hotel!!

Review 42:very friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, clean & comfortable beds, good food and drink.

Review 43:Spa had two families of very young children screaming and shouting and jumping in the pool. There was no tranquil environment as advertised so we decided not to use the facilities. Very disappointing

Review 44:Beautiful setting, lovely bedroom and delicious breakfast

Review 45:Loved the character and obvious history of this old building, and the deep peace and quiet. The spa was lovely too. Twenty or thirty minute walk to stunning views of the Dover cliffs. A million years away from London.

Review 46:They didn't tell us until the last minute that there was to be a Christmas Party of 30 on one of the nights we were booked in for. They didn't tell us that the room we requested with twin beds did not have wifi.

Review 47:Nice staff

Review 48:Room was to hot at night from storage heater, we switched it off remainder of stay. But it really was not a major issue.

Review 49:Lovely layout. Had a good relaxing stay. Staff exceptionally good. Absolutely loved the whole stay here. If you want a lovely break away this place is ideal, but take a car.

Review 50:We booked a room in the hotel but instead were put in a shed in the middle of the car park. It had muddy carpets, small bed and no sound proofing or black out curtains. It was nothing like any pictures you see on the website. It had cheap furniture and a very small shower. Be careful when you book the room and check if they actually intend to accommodate you in the main house. When complained about paying a full rate of 163 pounds a night for a shed the management immediately reduced the rate to 100 pounds. The website completely misrepresented the actual quality of the room.

Review 51:Nice grounds around the hotel, lovely small swimming pool and other spa facilities - steam room, sauna, spa bath.

Review 52:The food was delicious but a bit pricey in the evenings. The meal service was somewhat leisurely.

Review 53:The first rate accommodation was accompanied with a health club and gastronomic menu in a quiet location close to Dover

Review 54:Evening meal was a disappointment. Food was good but portions were small and the main course lacked vegetables. Menu was the same for the 7 days we were there so choice was limited. Shocked when charged £4,50 for a bottle of tap water we hadn't asked for

Review 55:Very enjoyable stay, made to feel welcome by all the staff and facilities were excellent. Ideal location to visit attractions such as Dover Castle etc.

Review 56:Poor value for money. The room was relatively small and noisy from, I believe, a water tank in the roof void. There was only a set dinner menu offering three courses which was expensive. Apart from this the only other option appeared to be sandwiches. Room service was very expensive at £5 - this made a sandwich £10.95. Overall a disappointing stay.

Review 57:Location was good, spa was good but we did not use. Breakfast was good

Review 58:Bar - poor choice of beer and wine and not staffed - went out to a local pub Multi tasking staff - lovely breakfast server checked us out - felt like a B&B!!!!

Review 59:Location to the port

Review 60:Facilities, well-being treatments and practitioner, location, building and grounds upkeep, BEAUTIFUL hotel grounds, idyllic countryside surroundings, peacefulness. A wonderful experience, a wonderful hotel spa indeed.

Review 61:The whole setting of wallets court is so tranquil and picturesque, you are guaranteed to have a relaxing break. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and are more than willing to help with anything requested, we really enjoyed the spa facilities and walks in the countryside. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast excellent, it was my husbands birthday and the staff even organised a cake for him which they presented to him during a delicious meal in their restaurant. We went for a relaxing mid-week break and were certainly not disappointed! we have recommended this hotel to many family and friends and will most definitely be staying again....hopefully in the not to distant future!!

Review 62:Our honeymoon in France was to start with overnight at hotel. Restaurant was superb but our room was such a dissapointment for price paid. Staff responded well but still overpriced

Review 63:Staff superb and dealt with our complaint about over priced room quickly and efficiently.

Review 64:Irritable lady on the front desk with poor customer relation skills. The sauna and steam room were out of order so made the spa experience less than acceptable.

Review 65:Good quality food and a picturesque setting.

Review 66:Rooms in the stable accommodation rather ordinary and a bit dark food fairly average considering its reputation. Very limited menu.

Review 67:Overall atmosphere and location good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 68:Our room smelled of urine and we could only be accommodated in another room for only one of the two nights we were there for. Our reservation to the restaurant was cancelled upon our arrival due to a wedding which we should have been told about at the time of reserving (although they did accommodate us for dinner). My spa treatments were changed on the day as they were not all appropriate for pregnancy which I had informed the staff about upon booking these in advance but was told they were suitable at that time.

Review 69:Beautiful setting and lovely style to the hotel.

Review 70:Lovely peaceful location in the countryside and very close to lots of places of interest. Staff were very welcoming and helpful and the food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was delicious. Delightful rooms all very different and full of charm and character We throughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 71:Child restrictions in terms of accessing the spa

Review 72:The hotel has multiple options available as far as accommodation is concerned - 4 poster bed to hut or tippy we felt immediately at home due to friendliness

Review 73:Breakfast, wasn't very tasty and the coffee was awful. Real shame as everything else was fantastic

Review 74:The hotel was brilliant and the spa was just lovely.

Review 75:Noisy people upstairs who didnt let us sleepat least until 2 am.

Review 76:Everything perfect....loved it apart from the noisy room upstairs, defo going back there.

Review 77:I am disabled and found getting around Walletts difficult because of the steps with no handrails anywhere. There were 15 steps from bedroom to breakfast . I phoned before going and told them I was disabled.Very poor value for money.

Review 78:felt quite run down and dated in rooms, especially bathroom. Didn't match pictures online.

Review 79:food good, staff capable and sorted any issues. Nice small spa and facilities for tennis and petanque, etc

Review 80:Lack of wiFi/ internet connection in our room came as a shock. We were not aware of this until we arrived. The shower had virtually no pressure at all.

Review 81:Our room looked lovely - quite unique. The setting of the hotel is perfect and the grounds and house are lovely. We enjoyed the breakfast and bright breakfast room.

Review 82:Didnt feel that the room lived up to the "Executive" level we booked and paid for. Evening meal on Thursday night was expensive, although the food was great. Some of the equipment (Sauna) in the spa area was out of action with no notices or explanation.

Review 83:Friendly Staff

Review 84:Outdated shower. Room over lounge which was very noisy as we had an early start. Our room was a discounted £365 for which we paid £95. No way was it worth £365.

Review 85:Excellent dinner which was a very pleasant surprise

Review 86:there wasnt anything we didnt like, possibly the waiting staff could have been a bit more observant when it came to ordering. Also quite expensive for what you got.

Review 87:we liked the old charm and the relaxed atmosphere that you get with a small hotel. the room was lovely.

Review 88:Having to leave ! And not staying longer .

Review 89:We booked late , and was called the following day to be told we had the last room and it was to be a twin , on arrival we was shown to the twin to be offered an up grade . Perfect

Review 90:Our room was in a converted stable. It was damp and not aired

Review 91:It felt like being a guest in a country house rather than a hotel. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food exceptionally good

Review 92:All good

Review 93:Lovely friendly hotel with excellent service and food

Review 94:The weather!

Review 95:Excellent food, beautiful hotel buildings and rooms, friendly professional staff.

Review 96:A few broken things in the room and no reading light.

Review 97:Accommodation in independent building. Quiet. Nice indoors swimming pool.

Review 98:The food also dinner menu was dissappounted... We had to wait soo long between courses

Review 105:No Wi-fi in the room.

Review 108:A lovely lunch in the garden

Review 109:Excellent location, friendly and qualified staff, perfect in one word, value for money

Review 110:Friendly staff Having breakfast by an open window onto a sunny terrace

Review 111:Mouldy smell from tiny bathroom, tiny room, tiny bed and far too pricey for what it was worth

Review 112:Friendly and welcoming staff

Review 113:no wifi in the room

Review 114:nice restaurant, beautiful setting

Review 115:Free use of the spa facilities.

Review 116:Beautiful setting, wonderful food.
