Reviews for Arnos Manor Hotel

Review 1:hotel was not like depicted, worn down and grubby. paid extra for a whirlpool bath which didn't even work. offered room service but yet no menu provided. stained carpets, damp marks on ceiling and wallpaper pealing. Loud traffic noise, overall very over priced for what is provided, would never have stayed if pictures showed what it actually looked like.

Review 2:staff were friendly and beds were comfy.

Review 3:Public areas quite dated and in need of a refurb. Reception messy and grubby. Shower did not work - no hot water. Used one in another rooom - still no hot water. Cold quick shower. Told biler not working however hot water from taps?! No offer of compensation except offer of drinks off the bil at £2.30. Big deal.

Review 4:Breakfast v good, dinner good, staff friendly and helpful.

Review 5:there wasn't any helpful info in the room and i think the full breakfast could be more 'full'

Review 6:i liked the spacious room and the helpful staff

Review 7:Would like to see a gym for residents use.

Review 8:Quite. Central to every where we wanted to get to. As it was a Christmas we were surprised at the amount of staff working. Thank you. Really felt festive and rested.

Review 9:I didn't have a problem but my husband found his bed too small and the lift kept him awake. I had left my earplugs behind which I usually carry with me. We both had heavy colds so I think my husband was a bit restless so we had to leave a day early.

Review 10:The friendliness of staff. We were able to book in 2 hours earlier. I left my pyjamas behind and they will be posting them back to me.

Review 11:The en-suite wasn't clean, dirt down the door, under the sink unit and in fact the over all cleanness was very very poor. The corridors leading to the rooms, need repair, dirt and stains on the walls, carpet dirty and torn.

Review 12:Unfortunately the experience wasn't great, some staff were happy and helpful

Review 13:The room looked totally brilliant at first look, but on closer inspection there were some things that needed to be sorted out, e.g. the window did not shut properly as it had a loose fitting, two of the taps in the bathroom had the tops missing, that sort of thing.

Review 14:It was a beautiful building, with a fascinating history and some great aspects. All of the staff that I encountered were polite, friendly, and very helpful. I would definately return.

Review 15:nothing! cant wait to go back

Review 16:staff were amazing, couldnt do enough for us. great with gluten free food, changed our room when the whirlpoo bath didnt work and moved all our bags too, and gave us a free bottle of prosecco with our meal, which was great value at £15 each. lovely atmosphere, gorgeous old hotel, not like all the other anonymous city centre hotels

Review 17:BATH TAPS WERE LOOSE AND WATER POURED OUT REALLY SLOWLY ROOM SMELLED MUSKY BED WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE ROOM WAS RIGHT BESIDE A VERY NOISY LIFT NEVER HAD A BIT OF SLEEP ALL NIGHT BEING WOKEN BY PEOPLE ENTERING AND EXITING ALSO LIFT GOING UP AND DOWN ...JUST AWFUL

Review 18:NOTHING

Review 19:The only potential problem is finding the entrance to the car park due to the signage not being sufficiently illuminated. If you miss it, it's a bind finding somewhere suitable to turn around with Bristol's so called improved traffic system.

Review 20:Liked the old feel of this hotel with it's castelations and overall appearance.

Review 21:Rooms on ground floor are different - bigger and stylish and better in quality compare with rooms upstairs. It is second time for me to stay in this hotel. I was impressed by room first time, however expecting the same on my next stay, was very disappointed- we were given small not the best quality old room upstairs, no lift. This was changed on request, room looked better and bigger, but tired... and again disappointment next morning- no water to take shower due to broken boiler.

Review 22:Good location,staff was helpful .

Review 23:The restaurant menu was basic and more in line with pub grub, definitely not value for money.

Review 24:Staff were friendly and very helpful. Hotel location was great for visiting Bristol Centre and Bath was only a 15 to 20 minute drive. Parking was free.

Review 25:The hotel was clean but a bit tired decor wise. Furnishings in the bar were rather grubby looking.

Review 26:The staff were really helpful. Our room was lovely and warm and our beds and towels were changed each day.The beds were very comfortable and we had a great sized bathroom. The breakfast offered a good selection and set in a period setting.

Review 27:Breakfast was very poor. Pre-paid £10 per head, and for that there was only normal sliced ham, pre-packed cheese and a few cereals. The cooked breakfast was tiny! A menu would've been good, too. Decent, enough but I'd expect more for £10.

Review 28:Receptionist very friendly and helpful, ample parking and easy to get to. Bus stop right outside takes you straight into Bath or Bristol. The bath was absolutely amazing! A jacuzzi-type large bath. Big enough for two ;) Shower really powerful - perfect!

Review 29:The hotel could do with a bit of love and attention it looks a bit tired.

Review 30:The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean. The bar was very reasonably priced.

Review 31:The door on the bathroom was unusual and sprung open whilst in the bathroom. Not a major problem but slightly odd.

Review 32:The room was much bigger than expected with good facilities and room to set up a desk if needed. Comfortable seats and bed too.

Review 33:Facilities didn't match the price and you can get much better value for money elsewhere in Bristol. Jacuzzi bath kept turning on and wifi did not work.

Review 34:Clean room and big interesting hotel.

Review 35:Very dated in places.Decor in communal areas badly in need of re-decoration.Scuffed and damaged wallpaper and woodwork.Wall light fittings in room looked as though not cleaned for years.

Review 36:Comfortable bed, clean fresh smelling bedlinen and towels.

Review 37:Electricity off no heating or lift and I had a knee injury and found the stairs very difficult. Unable to get any food Saturday afternoon. Shower inadequate and no water from hot tap due to electricity problems.

Review 38:Bed very comfortable and the linen was spotless. Towels spotless and soft.

Review 39:Poor ensuit facilities. Poor hot water supply.Poor slow drain.age. Poor drab decor in need or much tlc.

Review 40:Friendly staff. Good breakfasts. Potent dial of a beautiful listed building.

Review 41:General age and condition of property. poor. Ceilings and walls in serious need of renovation. Shower very poor. No bedside tables due to size of room. Windows in need of replacement. Not sure about evacuation routes due to complexity of floor plans. Would not stay there again.

Review 42:Not a lot

Review 43:Shame about the second floor without a lift! I should have said I don't do stairs well at my age, & it was very mild for the time of year so I found it very hot in the room - mild for November - can't be helped.

Review 44:It was a trip down memory lane for me as we had a School Reunion (held elsewhere) - we all turn 60 this year- but I wanted somewhere to stay overnight living in Exeter as I now do. I found it very comfortable, all the staff were great, breakfast was lovely.

Review 45:The price is a little high for what you get, the taps in our room looked unpleasant and being an old house it was very creaky. Also the fire alarm sounded at 8:40 for no reason. A wake up call for free it seems.

Review 46:Very convenient and happy to accommodate where they could.

Review 47:Plumbing a bit iffy - hot water a tiny dribble and bath/shower handle broken. Arriving by car is problematic even with satnav as the hotel is on a big junction with the entrance only accessible in one direction. If you miss it you have to go round a sizeable block.

Review 48:Very helpful staff. Plenty of parking. Characterful and comfortable room, well-equipped.

Review 49:No lift. Key card stopped working every time we left the building. Shabby. Badly stocked bar. No one on reception after a certain time at night.

Review 50:Really helpful receptionist.

Review 51:Great room with the added spookiness of a possible haunting. Old castle style manor house make a nice change from a modern hotel but still all the modern facilities.

Review 52:power cut, no hot water in the early morning and reception staff who were very indifferent to the issues

Review 53:was given a double room even though I booked a single room

Review 54:Minor detail but bathroom was a bit tired looking and the bar ran out of cider and gin on a Saturday night!

Review 55:good parking facilities and friendly staff. Nice big room and lovely towels.

Review 56:This hotel needs a refurb. That is all I'll say on the establishment. My interaction with staff was positive, with the rest of our group less complimentary.

Review 57:Staff was helpful. That's it.

Review 58:When looking at google maps the hotel appears right outside Bristol Temple Meads rail station. It is about 1 1/2 miles away. My room was single glazed, therefore lots of condensation on the windows and traffic noise.

Review 59:The place was so grubby, peeling wall paper, scuffed skirting boards, this was in the hall way and in the bedroom. It needs a full revamp. The bed was old and the general furniture an fittings are very old and out dated. Whilst walking through the hall way to the room I was amazed at how grotty the place was so when I saw the state of the room it was just as bad.

Review 60:Staff were very friendly and very helpful

Review 61:Shower did not work in room was not informedwhen we arrived, scolding water. Fried breakfast- 5 items- not reasonable when paying £10 per person.Room on main thoroughfare. Window in parents room would not open-safety hazard.

Review 62:Friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable.

Review 63:The star system on this survey gives the impression we would recommend you stay here. We don't. The salad leaves in our food from the dining room were dirty and rotten. Don't trust the food.

Review 64:The Lady on reception that greeted us was exceptionally courteous and friendly.

Review 65:The hotel was very shabby, all the walls were scuffed and paint was chipped off. Threadbare carpets. Very nasty smell in the stairwell from the first to the second floor. Couldn't open the window due to smell of food coming in from the extractors. Noisy. The bar was very uninviting, very bright with staff too busy writing signs to serve us. I could go on.....

Review 66:The shower was powerful and the toiletries were very nice. Breakfast was very good when it finally came, although I specifically asked for bacon and 2 eggs but got one.

Review 67:Very noisy plumbing, may have woken other guests by using the loo. On the other hand, flickering bathroom light sorted immediately.

Review 68:Very large and airy room, king size bed very comfortable. Easy access as on a main road, but no road noise.

Review 69:Firstly it isn't as close to town as I thought. We caught a bus in and paid for a taxi (£10??) back. The check in staff were indifferent, we arrived post 'check in' and our room wasn't ready (As a training manager in hospitality; having worked on front desk in major hotels I was not impressed at all). We were sent the wrong way to the room. When we came back at 10pm ish I put my 11 yr old to bed and went to my car. My room key stopped working. They 'cut' me a new one. At approx 10.30 another guest entered my room (imagine ifmy daughter had been on her own?). They offered free breakfast; I wedged the chair under the door handle! Mistakes happen; locations can be less exact than first thought. But indifferent staff I can't tolerate. It was one night. Should have been insigficant but unfortunately it wasn't.

Review 70:The building was beautiful, old and tired, but with character. Some of the staff were lovely.

Review 71:Musty smell hits you immediately. Cracked walls, chipped paint, screaming toilet

Review 72:Looked nice from the outside. The Curry House restaurant just around the corner. Friendly receptionist.

Review 73:Staff were poorly trained so customer service was poor from some and non existant from others with no product knowledge. Hotel was in a hugely run down state with Aspestos signs in a lot of areas. Would never stay again

Review 74:Very loud music until 1 am. Noisy wedding guests until 2am. Also our room was located at the back of the hotel with a view of the rusty fire exit and noisy kitchen extractor fan.

Review 75:Good parking.

Review 76:A little more attention could be paid to the niceties,ie tea, coffee etc and toiletries. Maybe a mattress topper.

Review 77:The room is huge as is the relatively comfortable bed. The location is excellent with a regular bus service into town, so no need for the car. Burger King and a Steak House are located opposite and two Curry Houses a few hundred yards up the road. There's also a big Sainsburys behind Burger King. Brilliant staff at this hotel, Peter, particularly was always very helpful. We've stayed at this hotel twice and would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Review 78:Wifi rubbish- would connect but not work. Not the comfiest mattress in the world. The hotel decor and overall condition is quite rundown.

Review 79:The price. Clean basic room.

Review 80:No tumbler or hygiene bags in bathroom. Dark room. Shower not working at all. 3 attempts before toilet would flush.

Review 81:Friendly staff. Large room. Comfy bed. Breakfast.

Review 82:Very old interior in urgent need of renovation. Smelly, grim carpets, grim bathrooms, very poor bed.

Review 83:Location was OK. Booked at 10pm as needed somewhere to crash for a night. Was aware the hotel had its issues on booking it.

Review 84:No Aircon in hot weather

Review 85:I have stayed at this hotel several times and although it is nearing a need of a refit I really like this place the staff are really good and go out of their way to help without charging you for every little thing possible. The price is always good and breakfast in the conservatory is very pleasant

Review 86:We had a amazing stay. Some how managed to book luxury suite with hot tub bath! Would definitely stay there again. Lovely man on reception when we arrived at 1am and was very helpful :)

Review 87:Friendly staff, beautiful original old building, good food, comfortable bed, good parking facilities. The room was quiet even though the place is on a fairly busy main road.

Review 88:The room arrangement was random and confusing.

Review 89:The location is very close to city center yet its very peaceful. The hotel is kind of a heritage building and ample parking place as well.

Review 90:Noise from nearby road with single glazed windows made sleep difficult. Wifi connection was slow / dropping out. A bit expensive for a solo traveller for what it is.

Review 91:Comfortable bed

Review 92:Our king size bed was just two beds pushed together and we could feel the crease between the beds, also there was no mattress topper....gross.

Review 93:Tea and coffee

Review 94:Visitors should know that the Manor is used for functions and for overnight staying groups.

Review 95:Staff are wonderful and attentive but there is only 'that much' they can do.

Review 96:My breakfast was poor - in quality and quantity. I am happy to say that, having commented on this, I was not charged for breakfast. I still wished I had enjoyed a luxury hotel breakfast though.

Review 97:Great bed and bedding. Spacious room and bathroom. The staff dealt well with the problem which I had (Breakfast!)

Review 98:From the minute we entered Arnos Manor we were treated extremely well. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly helpful staff. We had both the breakfast and evening meal during our two day stay and the food was top quality, and delicious. Glad to see that the building is being refurbished as it is a lovely building.

Review 99:Room was shabby, window frame cracked and flaking, needed a new carpet and furniture. Hotel is "tired" in general and really needs upgrading, such a shame, expensive for what it is.

Review 100:Location next to a nice park, easy access to the city centre,Bocabar within walking distance.Staff were polite and friendly.

Review 101:The decor was fairly old and the bath didn't drain quickly ... I ended up standing in 2 inches of cold water when I had a shower - the hot and cold controls were also a bit dodgy which meant that the shower was lukewarm most of the time.

Review 102:The check in was quick and the staff were friendly. The bed was super comfy. The wifi was free and easy to access. The bar staff were courteous. For us , the location was convienient - it was close to the Temple Mead station and the fact that it is right next to a large park was a bonus.

Review 103:Some of the furniture needs replacing

Review 104:I loved the fact that the building was really old, it's due for a million pound make over next year, will Definately revisit next year to see the difference

Review 105:Room not double-glazed so could hear noisy traffic. Couldn't close window, which let in traffic fumes. Leaking toilet. Noisy water pipes. Long wait for Bar Meals.

Review 106:Ease of Parking, although not so easy access off the main road. Staff were generally very welcoming and helpful.

Review 107:Shower failed to work - cold water only. Mixer only provides cold water. Hot tap very slow so unable to fill a bath in time.

Review 108:Breakfast is good and fresh. Rooms comfortable and spacious.

Review 109:Had my elderly mother with me, requested her a room with minimum steps, she was given a room with a minimum 3 flights of steps to traverse. She ended up swapping with me as my room had only one flight. The room had visible damage to bathroom tiles and ceiling and there was debris on skirting boards from where someone had drilled something. Not overly impressed given price of room.

Review 110:Nice looking hotel. In a good area easily accessible for city centre.

Review 111:Our initial thoughts were good. We popped in earlier than check in to double check arrving at 12-1 in the morning would be ok, or if we could have a key in advance. They checked and found our booking and assured us that there would be no problem getting arriving at any time. We arrived back to check in 12-1 ish and the chap on reception couldn't find out booking. we were they for a while explaining we'd been in earlier and giving him our booking.com ref but it was clear he wasn't keen to help and couldn't find our booking. Right before he almost sent us away he found the piece of paper and we got to our room. The next morning we came for breakfast waiting to be 'seated' and then told to help ourselves. I don't want to list everything but... there was no laid tables to 'help our selves too', it then took a while for one to be laid. The coffee machine didn't work, then it did, then there were issues with the coffee and it was disgusting. I don't think the beans were beining grinded properly. The cereals in big containers had a good for cms of old cereals crunched up at the bottom and the whole thing was very un apitising. The staff we're really un ingaging and not striving to make it a good stay.

Review 112:location was ideal for our stay

Review 113:Radiator not working (electric heater provided by staff on request). Wifi does not work properly in downstairs bedroom so have to sit in hotel reception area to use. Grotty carpet for a hotel in this price range and interior of hotels appears in serious need of a refit.

Review 114:Friendly helpful staff

Review 115:The fact that I had asked on my booking form for a first floor room as my sister had broken her foot three weeks previously. Our room was actually on the third floor and both of us being well over 60 we had to carry our own cases up to the third floor with no offer of help. I paid for an executive suite which was far below expectations and not as shown in the photos.

Review 116:The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent

Review 117:restaurant service poor we had to wait over a hour before receiving the food.we ordered there were only 6 other person in restaurant they were there before use and got their meal after use p s we eat out second night

Review 118:Booked an executive room but did not seem like one, poor decoration and toilet very noisy when flushed. We could also hear everything for room next door.

Review 119:Bathroom facilities were inadequate, problem with shower and cold water first night. Second night problem with continued noise like an extractor fan in the bedroom.

Review 120:The room was spacious, big bed.

Review 121:Centre light in room did not work, TV remote only worked if you were less than six inches away, hot water dribbled from tap- took ages to fill a lukewarm bath. Woken at 7.10 on Sunday morning to ask if we were burning scented candles (we weren't). Maid knocked again at 9.20 to clean room. Would not stay again. A shame as this could be a good hotel.

Review 122:The hotel is an attractive building. There is a very pleasant covered courtyard restaurant and the rooms are large and clean. Breakfast was very good. Ample free parking.

Review 123:Normally stay in City centre hotels, first time I've stayed in a hotel outside and was impressed by the comfort and location that will continue to do so from now on.

Review 124:The only downside is the fact that being an old hotel the floorboards tended to creak. But this doesn't put me off staying there.

Review 125:Very thing. Hotel good, food good convenient to my business call.

Review 126:At breakfast we waited for half hour for waiter to appear. Another half hour went by with no sign of cooked breakfast. We had to start our day hungary as we could not wait any longer.

Review 127:Receptionist was great, very welcoming and helpful. Executive room was reasonably comfortable but décor, carpets and curtains all needed updating

Review 128:Some of the decor was a little tired, however they are awaiting a total revamp, maybe we'll return!

Review 129:The staff were excellent and all very welcoming and friendly.

Review 130:I had 2 guests for an early dinner, the service was cheerful but slow and my guests were on a tight schedule for time

Review 131:The rooms although functional and under- styled, provide everything a traveller would require and staff are friendly and helpful

Review 132:On arrival I went to my room. It was 11pm. It was the coldest night of the year so far. 3 windows were wide open and the radiator was in the "off" position. It was too late to warm the room up so I was pretty much freezing cold all night. Breakfast was charged at £10 and I ordered porridge that was so thick the spoon hardly went into it, and a poached egg that was disgusting - it had been poached in vinegar and the staff just said "oh well, different chefs cook differently". The décor was terrible with most if not all areas needing a paint job at the very least.

Review 133:Restaurant is closed on Sundays but not notified of this upon booking. Booked an executive room, it was cold at approx. 4.30pm so got into bed to keep warm. Radiators under the windows in bay then when closed curtains to keep the draughts out no heating. Water in shower luke warm and dribbled water out. Blind in bathroom filthy and split. Carpet in bedroom filthy. Extreme noise from road outside and even with curtains closed was getting headlights shining in the room!!!

Review 134:Most of the outside of the building looks good except the window frames

Review 135:The beds were a little uncomfortable and the furnishing in the bar/lounge were a bit scruffy.

Review 136:We were visiting family and the hotel was conveniently located. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Rooms were clean and not too noisy. Good parking and free wifi (if a little slow).

Review 137:Was quite cold and decor was tired and dated!

Review 138:Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff we came into contact with.Went out of their way to meet out needs!!

Review 139:Great location, easy access to Bristol and Bath. Plenty of places to eat just a short distance. Room was really comfortable, hotels age didn't reflect on the stylish room.
