Reviews for The Moorhill House Hotel

Review 1:Nothing couldn't find a fault with the place

Review 2:Fantastic got a free upgrade lovely staff.lovely food and not too expensive cant wait to stay there again

Review 3:Sauna was not working last visit but I understand now fixed....sorry to say I had work to do so not able to try it this visit.

Review 4:Bedrooms nice and spacious. Lounge area excellent

Review 5:Restaurant rather expensive for what I had. I would have preferred a little firmer mattress on the bed.

Review 6:Peace and quiet, room very well equipped and presented. Staff very helpful and eager to please.

Review 7:The pool are was badly lit, it was like swimming in a closed pool, more lighting needed! The village was only a short walk away in the daytime but it would have been impossible to go in the evening due to the pitch black and very long driveway.

Review 8:I loved this hotel! I was looking for somewhere comfortable with easy access to the New Forest and also somewhere that would accept my dog, this hotel excelled at all 3! The staff were lovely and very flexible when I wanted to decided each morning and evening if I wanted breakfast/dinner. My room Was large and comfortable with a nice bathroom, it was clean and quiet. I went mainly for a walking weekend with my dog and this hotel was perfect, it literally backed into the new forest so no driving required if you didn't want to. The food in the restaurant was gorgeous and there was a special deal when I was there, 3 courses for £20, I was happy and stuffed both evenings :)

Review 9:Unclean with several cobwebs , there was a huge spider in the bathroom and what looked like a cockroach in the main bedroom , decor was dated and poor, peeling wallpaper, stains on wardrobe door, whole floor creaked with slightest movement, carpet needed cleaning, wifi did not work at all, damp ceiling in bathroom. Outside there was a hole in the car park approach about 10ft X 8ft and 2-3 inches deep, this coupled with insufficient lighting caused me and another guest to walk straight into what can only be described as a pond!

Review 10:Location

Review 11:Smallest bed (despite paying for the second price room). Crowded, tiny room. Cheaply furnished, broken chair, filthy bathroom, creaky floor boards and neighbours screaming in the hallway at 6am. Tiny pool. Looks exponentially better on the website.

Review 12:Good location, good receptionist but not worth the room fee by a long shot (this is from someone who stays away 1/2 times per week)

Review 13:Set in a beautiful location, the hotel was perfect for a weekend trip. The room was quite small but comfy enough for one and was well kitted out. Lovely breakfast, good selection of food and very good staff. Only downside is the walls are quite thin so you can hear people stomping around the corridors and banging doors.

Review 14:Bar ran out of tonic and on a Friday evening after driving for 6 hours I needed one. V. bad first image. Very noisy bedroom I was woken 2 or 3 times in the night by a crying/screaming child in next room and by a very noisy morning bath. Room had very ugly view over what looked like farm buildings.

Review 15:Very dog friendly - dog towels in porch and dog biscuits on reception. Nice ambience and good food.

Review 16:Not enough staff available to serve in evenings in restaurant and bar. Room dark and noisy from floorboards above and kitchen below

Review 17:Location and friendly staff

Review 18:Occasionally under-staffed, mostly small bedrooms,in need of renovation.

Review 19:Beautiful area, friendly staff, great food, comfortable, In heart of New Forest, wifi,

Review 20:Seriously in need of refurbishment. Worst nights sleep ever. Room 5 over door and bar, smelt of dog and had poorly curtained glass full length of room onto brightly lit corridor. Mattress very old. Apparently had complaints before but still letting it.

Review 21:Good location and friendly staff.

Review 22:Beautiful tucked away high quality yet extremely comfortable / relaxed hotel. The best thing for us was that it backed directly onto the New Forest with several walking trails.

Review 23:Catered for the elderly, not specified on web site. Very noisy at night with cars passing within 2 feet of bedroom window. Due to being an old building floorboards very creaky so again woken up throughout the night from guests above. All facilities shut down at 2300 or before.

Review 24:Location was perfect for cycling in new forest and within walking distance of village

Review 25:Annoying hum (from the pool's fan?) going all night, plus zero sound-proofing meant a poor night's sleep. Interference with my clock radio's reception so I couldn't listen to it at all. The other places we stayed on our holiday provided bottled water in the room; this hotel, despite being the priciest of the lot, didn't. Antique bathroom with dirty skylight.

Review 26:Great location. We were able to have a light meal in the bar when we arrived. Tasty breakfast - shame we had to wait so long for it to arrive.

Review 27:Minor quibbles: room need a little redecoration, WiFi weak and dropped out frequently. Restaurant and kitchen did not cope well with my order one night due to large party dining. However, none of this would prevent me recommending or returning.

Review 28:Very friendly and helpful staff. Proper hotel and very comfortable, clean and well equipped room (lots of power points in room). Food excellent. Location fabulous.

Review 29:A lot! Our room was allegedly a newer part of the hotel, but the noise & constant vibration from the kitchen directly below, and even more so from the room above (which we later established was caused by nothing more than the occupant walking around the room) were unbearable... Even the tiny little cleaner pushing the Hoover around caused enough noise & vibration to make me wonder whether the cast of Riverdance were practicing upstairs! If this is a new part of the building, as the hotel suggested, then there clearly is no soundproofing between the floors, and I dread to think what it would be like in the old part!! The bins in our room hadn't been emptied... The bed was like a slab of concrete... and I'm talking ridiculously uncomfortable... We were looking forward to a rare opportunity to relax, but for all three nights of our stay, we both barely slept a wink... And sadly, the lack of any genuine interest or adequate response from the hotel staff & manager to our initial and subsequent written complaint, topping off what was a truly awful experience. To say we were disappointed really doesn't really do it justice, and I certainly wouldn't consider returning to this hotel

Review 30:The surrounding area

Review 31:No beer or cider available at the bar to quench the thirst on a hot day. All taps apparently off due to ordering problem.

Review 32:Friendly staff and good quiet location with ability to walk direct out onto the Forest. Very clean throughout.

Review 33:The position of the hotel was lovely. The room was very comfortable The wedding we attended was beautifully arranged by the Hotel and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Review 34:The room we were given looked very tired. Very 70's wardrobe and fittings and although clean, the room needed a good spruce up. After our previous hotel (The Lugger in Portloe) this was a bit of a disappointment as it was a little more expensive.

Review 35:Location was good.

Review 36:The shower in the bath, feel that a four poster room should have had a separate shower. Don't like breakfast not being included in the price of the room.

Review 37:The four poster bed was really comfortable. Great to have a balcony. Beautiful location set in amongst trees and lovely and remote just the birds singing!

Review 38:Stayed here with my elderly mother who had a small double room. We were not told she was on the top floor and there was no lift. We were not offered help with the luggage.

Review 39:Breakfast was excellent.

Review 40:I had to leave for work at 0430, when reception was closed. When I mentioned this, the staff couldn't have been more accommodating when it came to helping me out. I was travelling on my own and when I arrived, they'd upgraded me to a different room purely because a superior one was available.

Review 41:They were clearly short of staff and this led to delays getting served in the bar.

Review 42:We thought all the staff were excellent and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The Duty Manager Christian deserves special praise, he worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a great time and ensured all their needs were met. He always had a smile and took time to get to know the guests. We were attending the wedding of our friends and Christian's professionalism and commitment to excellent service made the occasion even more special.

Review 43:Breakfast was a bit chaotic, we were left sitting there for a while, then my pet hate, blame the customer: "you didn't know what you wanted" (you didn't ask) "you weren't here that long, I can show you the receipt" But that was just one waitress, who may have been having a bad day. Everyone else was lovely.

Review 44:Bed and room were lovely, location is great. Dinner was very nice.

Review 45:No music in the bar area but this wasn't a big problem.

Review 46:The hotel is set in a beautiful location hidden away in the trees and is only a short walk from the village. Lovely atmosphere.

Review 47:no lifts.bed and breakfast for one price rather than having to pay extra for the breakfast.

Review 48:a truly lovely place for a wedding. the hotel was comfortable, stylish and had a wonderful atmosphere for my best friends & my partner's daughter's wedding, a wonderful breakfast great value for the money.

Review 49:The fact that we had driven from London between Christmas and New year and they were not able to provide the top end 4 poster family room we had booked. Apparently there had been some water damage that had affected the lighting and heating in that room which made it unusable. At the end of our stay our bill was wrong, this was amended and printed out 3 times before it was correct! This has happened on previous stays too. Despite the mess up with our room we managed to have a nice stay due mainly to the beautiful location to the village and surrounding countryside.

Review 50:The hotel staff were great, especially trying to sort out the comment below and finding an agreeable alternative, which I have to say was not ideal but was the only family room available. We used the pool and sauna, bar and lounge areas, all very good.

Review 51:Squeaky floor boards, lining / cleaning cupboard near room so got noise in morning. Pre aurhrising Visa card full amount for the 2 rooms booked and so having problems paying when leaving down to no funds down to the pre authorising. Still trying to sort out problem now 5 days on

Review 52:The pool was a reasonable size and good temperature, sauna took time to get to a good heat. The grounds were lovely kept . Room a good size

Review 53:nothing

Review 54:we found the staff very helpful and nothing was to mutch trouble but I have been staying with you for the last 20 years so it came as no surprise.....

Review 55:Nothing

Review 56:The hotel is situated in one of the loveliest parts of England. The food was sublime. Room was lovely. All the staff were very friendly and very helpful. We will be coming back for our anniversary.

Review 57:Booked twin room but had two beds joined together! They moved them apart for us but only 6 inches! not a true twin room.

Review 58:Very good location and excellent food.

Review 59:It must have been the worst nights sleep I have had in a hotel for many years. I put this down to the bed itself. I had 2 small single divans zipped together covered by a sheet , well I am 6ft 2in and 14 stone , so I just kept rolling back into the middle(groove) and waking up. Room service was poor , no real choice and quite expensive for what you get.

Review 60:room 34 above kitchen noisy extractor fans and air con units plus greasy smells from the kitchens meant that i couldn't have windows open and room very hot .breakfast not good, luke warm this put me off trying the dinning room for dinner

Review 61:Great welcome on arrival even though i was 2 hours early helpful staff lovely large fluffy towels for that touch of luxury right in the middle of the New Forest

Review 62:Noise from cellar cooling condenser all night clicking on and off. Loud noise from swimming pool through to bedroom. Wi Fi only works downstairs. Food portions small and therefore expensive for what you got on the plate.

Review 63:Staff were friendly

Review 64:Shortage of bar staff Old building means a few creaks here and there. You can hear doors slamming from other rooms etc More choice on bar menu - pasta, salads, pizza options would be good Kids activities in the garden Link to cycle hire companies so you can pre book via the hotel

Review 65:Forest location with easy access (walking) to Burley Swimming pool - great for kids Nice large towels in rooms Lovely grounds & garden

Review 66:Staff were poorly trained - waitress didn't know how to open a wine bottle - ??? Pity it doesn't have a lift.

Review 67:Generally an excellent hotel - easy to see why it is such a popular wedding venue.

Review 68:The room we were allocated was constantly bombarded with noise from the Air conditioning / kitchen fans.(Not sure which) It was so bad I got up in the night and went to complain but the desk was empty. We checked out after 1 night and told staff why but were still charged £20 for the 2nd night.

Review 69:The waiting staff were untrained. At breakfast waiting staff would stand whilst failing to pick up the used crockery. At dinner it was a complete shambles. We were asked to check the bill and found errors which were corrected.

Review 70:The food was good

Review 71:We booked room only but when the invoice was printed off it included a charge for breakfast which the receptionist said was automatically added on to room only bookings with no explanation when asked why. In fact one of the party paid before we realised. Beware.

Review 72:I liked the location outside the village so quiet yet within easy walking distance of the village.

Review 73:Our only critique is that the room we were in had squeaky floorboards and we could hear noise from the guests in other rooms. Otherwise it was a lovely stay.

Review 74:A lovely relaxing location deep in the New Forest. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the swimming pool was very welcoming after a day out cycling. We would visit again.

Review 75:Wonderful bed and very friendly staff.

Review 76:Staff are friendly & ideal for dog walking

Review 77:We were made to feel welcome at this hotel and enjoyed our stay. The upgrade to a bigger room was appreciated.

Review 82:very comfy hotel, nice rooms, love the sauna and pool. extremely friendly and helpful staff. amazing value

Review 83:Breakfast was cold

Review 84:Beautiful location

Review 85:Bed was a bit hard

Review 86:Dogs (and people!) were made v welcome and there s a swimming pool

Review 87:menu not value for money

Review 88:location gardens etc

Review 89:bathroom bit tiny but clean and functional. Restaurant ok, bar menu would have been nice

Review 90:lovely location, use of pool,

Review 91:In particular we enjoyed the spectacular location, excellent walks directly from the back garden. Delicious breakfast too!

Review 92:Flat beer in the bar

Review 93:The whole experience, the location, staff, hotel facilities

Review 94:Fantastic location directly on new forest

Review 95:view from room

Review 96:location

Review 97:Not enough residents in the bar!

Review 98:The professional service in the restaurant

Review 99:Very comfortable beds & dogs being made very welcome.

Review 100:We liked the pool, walks and food.

Review 101:Relaxed stay.

Review 102:I think for the price, breakfast could have been included, as it is at the BELL INN, Norwich.!!!! Lot of noise. During late evening.

Review 103:Room 1 extractor noise and yucky cooking smells Price, way over top Tiny cold pool

Review 104:Location Size of room Staff friendliness

Review 105:Pool was great, staff really friendly.

Review 106:We were above the kitchen so alot of banging coming from there sonit was annoying

Review 107:Nice hotel nice staff

Review 108:No window in bathroom

Review 109:Spacious rooms, lovely décor. Relaxing stay.

Review 110:Everything

Review 111:Restless dog in room above ours walking backwards and forwards.

Review 112:The staff. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 113:Room very warm and unfortunately quite noisey if windows left open.

Review 114:The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 115:Bed hard!

Review 116:Location,general ambience

Review 117:beautiful location and the food was good too.

Review 118:The room we were allocated was rather small and hot, the room had cobwebs on the ceiling and was above the swimming pool which had a noisy extractor fan running constantly. There was no mobile reception and the wifi did not work in the area we were staying. Overall very disappointed.

Review 119:Great location quiet surroundings

Review 120:No lifts Overpriced basic rooms with duvets that were too short to cover you Room not ready 5 hours after the check in time Need a car, not near to shops/pubs or within comfortable walking distance of Burley village. Rooftop view not garden view as advertised Overcharged Had to even pay for newspaper-charged twice for one paper charged for dinner when told price included half-board Check your bill very carefully before you pay them glass of cheap wine £9 tel calls locally 25p per minute.

Review 121:Nothing-Staff were polite.

Review 122:There were numerous issues where we had reason to complained 1.Low pressure on the water causing the shower to be non effective and the toilet cistern taking ages to fill up. 2. Beds not made properly to the basic standard. 3. Noise from a) heavy vehicular traffic at 5am b) kitchen extract fans c) guests slamming doors at all times of the night We could go on but we have already made our concerns to the management at the hotel. I would be very reluctant to recommend your hotel

Review 123:Food was good

Review 124:Staff communication seemed to be a shambles. Ordered breakfast in our room which they forgot about despite reminding them twice. Left us waiting over hour in our room

Review 125:Having to leave!

Review 126:Such a tranquil location in the heart of the New Forest away from any noise, apart from the sounds of the wildlife, so was very relaxing.

The Fine Print
