Reviews for St Albans Guest House Dover
Review 1:I understood from the booking process thst check in was 4pm, no problem. I arrived by train about 3, assuming I could leave my luggage then come back. But no, sign on the door no check in before 4. So stuck with bags until then, lucky I didn't get to Dover even earlier!
Review 2:It was in a handy spot as I travelled by train. Only a short walk into the city centre.
Review 3:Clean, friendly, good breakfast and good value for money. Rooms are small, but the website makes this clear and they are perfectly comfortable for a short stay.
Review 4:The location was excellent for a solo traveller or backpacker, located across from a decent pub and only a few paces from the railway station and within walking distance to town and castle. The area was quiet and the room was comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent and the service was very friendly and helpful.
Review 5:This is a charming guest house which is located just across the street from the Dover Priory Train Station and a short walk from the center of town. Thea, the owner, was fantastic and gave us some great suggestions for dinner. The room was cozy; heat and wifi worked well; and the bed was very comfortable. This was just an overnight stay but we would return here the next time we are in Dover.
Review 6:Very little restaurant choice within walking distance. Accommodation basic and no breakfast offered for our early morning (6.15) departure.
Review 7:It was near the port for our ferry. Clean. Good value.
Review 8:The location is very good, close to Dover Priory Station, the town centre, where one can find restorants, cafes and pubs, and the main attractions. The staff was very solicitous and helpful and the room was quite comfortable.
Review 9:Fantastic value. Was not expecting such a clean and tidy place. A really pleasant surprise - everything you need and very well looked after. All for £30. First class unlimited breakfast for a fiver too.
Review 10:Only problem was difficulty of checking in. No-one answered door bell. Had to ring Booking.com to gain access. It must have taken us 20 minutes.
Review 11:This accommodation was extremely convenient for accessing the Port facilities and was perfectly adequate for our requirements.
Review 12:Very helpful and friendly staff; I only wanted continental breakfast rather than cooked, so was given a discount on normal breakfast price. Although the room fronted onto a very busy road, which was noisy with the window open, closing the window instantly killed the noise, so good sound-proofing! The establishment and décor are 'tired', but for a one-night stay it was fine. Plenty of hot water in shower too!
Review 13:No curtains. Not able to have a shower as I was unable to get any hot water through it. Nothing explained about breakfast, if it was available or not, so left without any and breakfasted elsewhere...
Review 14:Location was great for my purposes. Room was small but functional. Free WiFi was definitely a plus. View was good too.
Review 15:Wish they could include the breakfast in the room rate.
Review 16:Have stayed here many times and will be staying here again. Great place, cosy and quiet. Excellent location right opposite the station.
Review 17:Too many steep stairs. Room was a little small.
Review 18:The location was excellent for us, as we arived by train and hired a car. Parking was free sfter 5.00pm. Free WiFi was great.
Review 19:No lift Breakfast room shut during renovations (not on the advert) Ensuite marginally bigger than wardrobe
Review 20:Close to station Nice owners Not far from Cullins Restaurant that is brilliant Served a purpose for overnight stay.
Review 21:The bathroom was truly tiny. I could barely stand inside with the door closed. But the water pressure was good, so no real complaints!
Review 22:The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to drop off our bags early on the day we arrived and leave them until noon on the day we left. The room was cute, the bed comfortable, and the internet good. We had a huge window overlooking the pretty back garden. The location directly across from the train station was ideal.
Review 23:Very easy to find, in walking distance to the Town centre, restaurants, the waterfront. We were made very welcome and given good information and directions to go out and eat in the evening. Our room was small which we knew when we booked it and perfectly comfortable and very clean. The full breakfast was freshly cooked just for us, worth the £7.50 extra, which strangely the other Guests didn't want to pay. It set us up for the day
Review 24:the owner had the personality of a lamp post and when I booked online I thought it was for bed and breakfast yet the fine print says you have to pay that separately
Review 25:wi fi
Review 26:I don't eat breakfast so was annoyed I couldn't try it :(
Review 27:I liked the whole thing, staff, clean and tidy, wifi. I could not have picked a better guest house.
Review 28:Although clearly stated by the management on the hotel page that the check in starts at 16.00 it would be nice to have a luggage drop off before that time. The manager told us in person that the Priory hotel (across the street) offers that service. Would have been nice to know it in advance (a message on the door is more than enough).
Review 29:Literally across the street from the train station.
Review 30:shower was abit small and the main room was small..but everything was clean..
Review 31:the service was nice and friendly..even thoe the room was small it was nice and clean.. only 2 minute walk to train station(which you hardly hear at night)..and about 5 min to town centre..+ 5 to the beach.. if you only need a b&b for weekend or one day then i would recommend this b&b. if you intend to spend more time at the b&b then i would choose another.. name stuart from holland..
Review 32:Breakfast is only available if other guests book it too. As I was the only one who wanted breakfast I had none. Breakfast was described in the details when I booked, so this is a serious failing.
Review 33:Cosiness, immediate proximity of the railway station, wood panneling
Review 34:No private parking, bathroom a bit small, breakfast expensive,
Review 35:Close to docks, price, room clean, easy to find, free wifi, tea & coffee, TV. Though close to train station - no noise
Review 36:We liked the fact we were on the ground floor as one of us has difficulty climbing stairs. The beds were really comfortable. I would definitely recommend St. Albans Guest House as a place to stay!!
Review 37:Shower vent was very dirty. Room was very small and hosts not friendly; floor hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. You can hear the trains coming/going all evening and morning. There is supposed to be breakfast, but they said 'no breakfast.' No apology for not having it. Many large steps to get to front door.
Review 38:Good location across the street from Dover Priory Rail Station. Beds were comfortable.
Review 39:Poor wifi. The walls are really thin and you can hear every thing next door. Can also hear toilet flush, showers etc. We took the small double room and be aware that the room is really small bu OK for one night.
Review 40:Good location. Nice host who nicely agreed to keep our luggages until 4 pm which was helpfull as we didn't have to carry our stuff all day.
Review 41:Minimal cheap make tea/coffee. No biscuits. No warning of lack of breakfast availability. Very tight and worn en suite/shower with no surfaces to put anything.
Review 42:Clean and comfortable small double
Review 43:For the price it wasn't very good value. Cheap sheets, small bath towels, no face cloths. Very tiny and cramped. Can't check in till 1600. It was OK for one night but wouldn't return again. No parking, though there is street parking. The owners heart doesn't appear to be in the business. Breakfast is not included and is extra.
Review 44:Handy to the train station
Review 45:Very small room and lots of noise from passersby, traffic, trains and the pub. The bathroom was so compact, it had less available space than a public phone box. I defy anyone to dry themselves with the door shut. This hotel is suitable for a thrifty contortionist, all others should apply elsewhere.
Review 46:Close to the pub, railway station and taxi rank.
Review 47:Breakfast was extra and in a B&B you'd expect it to be included. Ensuite was tiny but functional.
Review 48:Good location at the railway station and a short walk to the shopping area. Comfortable room with nice decor but rather small.
Review 49:Really rustic - not used to staying in places like this - reminded me of my student days!
Review 50:Location - very easy to get to the ferry - less than a 5 min drive.
Review 51:Steps up could be an issue with heavy luggage.
Review 52:Cheap and cheerful, great at the price. I do have a better choice in town but this was a last minute booking for myself and a colleague.
Review 53:Landlord/Landlady were angry , rude, stressed people and you could tell they did not like having guests. It is clear they had experienced poor guests in the past and they have forgotten how to treat guests. Awful location. Felt the rooms were not very clean and the carpets were un-vaccumed. Not recommended unless desperate like we were for accomodation!
Review 54:Across the road there was a good place for breakfast which was good value and cheerful lady serving.
Review 55:Although we had to pay for breakfast, six thirty leaving hotel was to early for the meal..
Review 56:Hotel was cheap,, it enabled us to catch the early morning ferry.
Review 57:Bathroom too small, mold. No shade at window with bright light shinning night time. No room to get around the bed. Came home with black & blue arms and legs from trying to get around bed and in bathroom.
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:Dover is a very unattractive city. Only things worth visiting are Dover Castle (very expensive though; you might consider buying an english heritage pass if you're also visiting other places) and the white cliffs. Better stay in Canterbury, only 30 minutes away. Unfriendly manager. Website states children under 4 are not allowed but they'd better make that under 10. We did not feel very welcome with our kids (4 and 6), who were not supposed to make noise. We kept them pretty quiet between 9 pm and 8.30 am but apparently that was not enough.
Review 60:Location is ok, 5 min walk to city centre. Close to train station. We could park nearby.
Review 61:decor a little dated on moderately busy road no off street parking
Review 62:Short drive from ferry terminal short walk into town centre reasonable sized single room good double glazing comfortable bed would stay again Reasonable price
Review 63:The room and shower/bathroom hadn`t much space. The breakfast room was in the undergroundfloor, not very nice. The noise from the railway nearby disturbed a bit in the evening.
Review 64:The centre of the town was nearby, the view to the castle was great.
Review 65:The steep access steps. Although parking was advertised, it was on the street a good few yards away from the guest house.
Review 66:The price was fair. The staff polite and friendly. The bed was very comfortable
Review 67:located on quite a busy road so was a bit noisy if the window was open; Wi-fi and TV signal wasn't always good
Review 68:nice double room; very comfortable bed; good shower; located just opposite the railway station and close to town centre, which is very convenient for travelling; great value for money
Review 69:The two ladies were very kind. The place is convenient because it is just in front of the train station and 5 min walk to the bus stop,if you arrive by bus. The room was pretty clean and the bed was quite comfy. We definitely recommend this place for a city break!
Review 70:The fact the first thing she did was ask for money. The room was tiny the en-suite was so small you couldn't turn round the trains ran past the window every 15 mins wouldn't recommend.
Review 71:Comfortable bed, tv, warm room
Review 72:No private car park. Close to train station and I could hear trains at night.
Review 73:Nice staff. Good price.
Review 74:Well located across from the train station.
Review 75:this was what we wanted average price centre of town easy to find for a short night stay and getting a ferry early in the morning no fuss and bother
Review 76:Gent and bath too crampy
Review 77:The quietness of the place
Review 78:NO BREAKFAST...TINY ROOM...NO COMMON AREA...EXPENSIVE FOR THIS.
Review 79:Friendly reception.
Review 80:Really uncomfortable bed and the room was freezing. Shower was nothing but a dribble.
Review 81:It was close to ferry port
Review 82:Owner is very kind
Review 83:unfortunately there was no breakfast served ( werent enough guests)
Review 84:clean and comfy room very friendly staff good value for the price
Review 85:All good
Review 86:Lovely lady who checked me in, may stay there again
Review 87:Something from the past. Owners value high occupancy over quality.
Review 88:Clean
Review 89:Very friendly staff and excellent, freshly cooked breakfast! Rooms are very good considering the UK standard.
Review 90:not as clean as I would have liked, dated interior, bathroom smelt a little damp.
Review 91:friendly welcome
Review 92:A good example of old time British B&B - dull and uninteresting.
Review 93:It was 10 minutes from the ferry terminal.
Review 94:Expensive for small room with very old furnishings and no breakfast.
Review 95:Very good location for the Dover ferry.
Review 96:It's a bed and breakfast but there was no breakfast!
Review 97:Location was excellent. The hotel was clean and the bed comfortable.
Review 98:None
Review 99:Not far from rail station
Review 100:Very close to train station and key sites.
Review 101:No breakfast available. went to morrisons.
Review 102:Pillows and bed very hard
Review 103:Staff very friendly
Review 104:A bit pricey since breakfast not included. Closeness to station means noise and vibrations from trains a real problem.
Review 105:A good location for return journey home and visit again, close to city centre restaurants and a friendly host.
Review 106:Small room for backpackers
