Reviews for Hôtel de Paris

Review 1:All three of our rooms were in the car park and had no windows. The hotel had 50 rooms of which eight were ground floor rooms: when I asked if other rooms were available at first we were told not at the price we paid then that the hotel was in fact full. The next morning at breakfast it was obvious that this was not true. Dishonest and unhelpful: we felt like third class citizens.

Review 2:The hotel was very beautiful

Review 3:Being in a pedestrian area I did not realise that you can use the intercom to apply to get the bollards lowered. Perhaps this should be explained to visitors coming by car.

Review 4:Wonderful location and super staff who were most helpful. Had a problem with the shower as no cold water available and the hot was very hot, however we were more than adequately compensated. Parking really good and secure. Breakfast was great.

Review 5:very impersonal hotel: no staff in the breakfast room at all very aggressive decoration room very dark

Review 6:layout of the room and staff helpful in ordering a taxi for my arrival at the train station

Review 7:the soundproofing of the room is not good so you hear people walking and talking in the corridor. Bathroom door is also very thin so no intimacy

Review 8:Awesome location right in pedestrian centre. Convenient secure paying parking. Smiling and welcoming staff.

Review 9:Comfortable and stylish rooms in a city centre location with private parking. The room was quiet and modern with a comfortable American king bed. The staff were very helpful with good restaurant recommendations. We stayed only one night en route from the Italian lakes .We will stay longer next time and see Besancon properly as it is a beautiful and historic city.

Review 10:There is no bar or leisure facilities. There is no restaurant in the evening although limited room service is available

Review 11:Staff are very helpful and the location is good. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

Review 12:difficult to find as the one-way system and closed off roads made it complicated to get in.

Review 13:Beautiful decor, great location. Good to have protected parking.

Review 14:We had a 3rd floor room felt like a shipping container. Carpets look dirty but are probably not. It's OK if you have to visit Besancon which I do not advise.

Review 15:Location, car park, front desk staff, breakfast OK but extra cost

Review 16:It would have been nice to have been advised of parking entrance location in parking confirmation email. Otherwise excellent.

Review 17:Location is excellent though potential customers should note access to parking is from Rue De La Republic not the street hotel entrance is on. This is significant because if you head for hotel address you have to use an intercom system at the edge of old town to get bollards removed and then drive through pedestrian old town. Heading straight for parking on Rue de la Republic is easier.

Review 18:Right in the centre of Besancon. gated parking area, very pleasant and helpful reception. Lovely room with walk in shower, coffee machine over looking busy main street. very good breakfast, eggs, ham, cheese and all the usual French flavours, good coffee. Highly recommended. We can also recommend Bistro la Charrette where have eaten 3 times.

Review 19:I didn't like the bed! It was too hard for me, (despite the memory foam), and it hurt my back! My husband didn't mind it though, but it clearly doesn't suit everyone.

Review 20:We liked the nice cool garden where we could have a drink. The staff were very good, though actually there was just one young lady that we saw morning and evening. But she was very helpful in all ways.

Review 21:Well situated at the heart of Besancon. The room was excellent, with an extra large bed, and excellent air-conditioning, which was very necessary. I had a room in the courtyard which was suitably scenic. No actual bar in service, but nice seats outside where you the very friendly staff would bring drinks.

Review 22:A little bit more choice at breakfast would have been welcome.

Review 23:Contemporary feel about the hotel. Courtyard rooms with main doors. Excellent showers with great facilities in bathrooms. Fast Wi-Fi. Parking.

Review 24:Nothing to dislike.

Review 25:The staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was what one would expect from a top and very expensive hotel but the price was extraordinarily reasonable. The breakfast was the best I had in the whole 2 week trip. Simply wonderful.

Review 26:Wifi was patchy and air conditioning was weak but would stay again nevertheless. Lovely hotel.

Review 27:Location, comfortable bed, quiet room overlooking pleasant courtyard. Excellent secure parking. A lovely stay in delightful Besancon.

Review 28:although our room, suite, was large it was not part of the main building which did not have an elevator. I had specifically requested that there was one.

Review 29:The night staff person was wonderful, we had a flat tire. He was VERY helpful.

Review 30:The location was brilliant so we could walk everywhere from the hotel. Great walks from tourist office. All staff are so helpful and booked us in lovely restaurants. Stayed here for four nights and will definitely recommend, would love to return here.

Review 31:It was impossible to sleep due to the room being so darned hot because the aircon didn't work....and there's no window open. All we could do is open our front door, which leads straight out into the courtyard. Did this all through the night, eventually approached the night staff and asked for a fan - were told there wasn't one. Complained politely in the morning, no apology or discount...just an excuse about it being May and (presumably?) too early in the year. Spoiled an otherwise lovely place.

Review 32:Absolutely everything except the fatal flaw!

Review 33:The bed was so soft that both me and my wife had a back pain the two days after we slept there for 1 night. Maybe you can ask for a harder bed.... The door for the toilet is probably 30cm from the bed. it is a double door that uses magnets to keep it closed. Those magnets make a really loud noise as they attract the door. One must be really careful and hold the door tight while closing it. I woke up during the night because my wife opened the door. Even when closed there is a gap of 1cm between the two parts of the door so expect to hear EVERYTHING....I am sorry but those doors need to be changed!

Review 34:location staff clean decor

Review 35:We spent only one night in the hotel,on our tour to France, but were impressed with the place.Loved decor, furniture in the room, very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom, with walk in shower. That was very important for my husband, who restricted mobility. The girl at the desk was extremely friendly and helpful with directions, parking, extra password for WiFi (second device), We would loved to stay more, but holidays had finished.))

Review 36:Very difficult to find.

Review 37:It was in a very good position right in the middle of the town. Helpful, friendly staff. The secure parking was good just at the back of the hotel.

Review 38:Amazing location, beautiful interior, small rooms but they were the standard and were incredibly good value. Stopped on the way to Switzerland from the UK but would make a point of staying again to the city and most definitely the hotel!

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:We went to besancon for a short weekend away. Booked hotel de paris based on the recommendations and that was a good choice. Beautiful boutique hotel with large and well decorated rooms. Staff extremly friendly, could even pick our own room out of three options they showed us. As well as the suggested restaurant was super(luckily reserved from(by) the hotel because it was booked out). Besancon is a lovely and clean town. The fortress is worth the visit. Will recommend it to anyone going away for a weekend of site seeing, terrace sitting and good food! (Many restaurants to try)

Review 41:The mattress was uncomfortable. Probably from overuse, it sank in the middle so that I was not laying flat. I found this very uncomfortable.

Review 42:We had a superior room, which was very spacious and lovely. It faced the courtyard and was quiet as well.

Review 43:The hotel is very nice, good location and parking spaces availAble. The staff is very good and helpful and gave great tips on restaurants and things to do.

Review 44:I can't believe that we were charged for parking when we didn't even have a car! I had even asked the receptionist for directions to the bus to the Gare, so obviously we didn't have a car. The parking came to 8 Euros a day - we were there for 3 days. I did write to the Hotel but have still not received a reply. That was a week ago. If we are not reimbursed for the amount, I would like to put in an official complaint against the hotel for being deceitful.

Review 45:As noted, the room itself, location and facilities.

Review 46:I stayed for three days and I was very happy with the quality of the room, as well as the friendliness of the staff. All staff members spoke great English, and they were able to help accommodate all of my requests. I'd highly recommend staying here in you're visiting Besançon (especially if you don't speak much French!).

Review 47:The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. There was an issue with water temperature in our room and, with our permission, while we were out at dinner, they tried to resolve it. When we got back to the hotel, they had not been able to resolve it but had upgraded us. The sign of good service is how you handle such issues and they were wonderful. The rooms are stylish and clean. The location is ideal, but the service is what remains in the memory.

Review 48:Besancon is another old French city with narrow streets. While driving in, it was tricky to find the parking area until directed by the staff. Then it was easy!

Review 49:Hotel de Paris has transformed an old, traditional building in the heart of Besancon France into a sleek, modern hotel. It has a very attractive and professional staff. A wonderful buffet breakfast appealing to both U.S. and European tastes is served in a in a bright and cheerful dining room.

Review 50:Our Suite was on a top floor you accessed with stairs! The staff helped with luggage but broke one. They gave us a partial refund for it knowing very well we had no other options. Stay away from privately own hotels!

Review 51:This hotel seems to have been thought through and executed by someone with a flair for design, a great grasp of what visitors enjoy and a bit of fun added into the mix. The hotel is located right in the midst of the pedestrian area in the middle of town, yet as you drive through the gates into the entrance courtyard all that bussle is left behind. A cool, bubbling glass of water was offered on the house as we arrived on a very hot day and that seemed to set the tone - this hotel does not try and charge for every little service, they are generous with style and if you have any queries about your room react swiftly. The breakfast was delicious and fresh, though in our case it wasn't included in our room price, it felt like great value for money. Highly recommended in this best-kept-secret of a city!

Review 52:Loved the parking reserved for us in the secluded courtyard. That you can walk into the town so easily.Very individual stylish and quite unique. Not like the chain hotels that all look the same.

Review 53:Rooms on the 3rd floor are only accessible by a combination of elevator, walking to the other side of the building, and staircase : not ideal if you have a lot of luggage.

Review 54:Everything positive, from the friendly staff, the quiet rooms, the excellent breakfast to the central location. All points of interest in Besançon are within walking distance. It is necessary to make a reservation for parking space (€ 8,-/night) if you come by car, as the car park is always full.

Review 55:Difficult to get to by car due to closed streets.

Review 56:Staff was helpful and very nice. The decor was exceptionel - modern and classic in a refreshing mix. Middle of city.

Review 57:Driving in, difficult to find Room colour scheme (darkish brownish) not to our taste. Room a bit small (but appreciate limitations and quality of modernisation good)

Review 58:Appreciated effort to provide a hard boiled egg on request. Staff were friendly and efficient. Liked smell of trees in courtyard / parking area. Could leave car till early afternoon on departure date to allow sight seeing.

Review 59:Expensive breakfast. Difficult to find with the one way system and limited access areas.
