Reviews for BEST WESTERN PLUS Dover Marina Hotel & Spa

Review 1:I have to say I liked eveything

Review 2:The hotel has great facilities, great restaurant and a very comfortable bed, great view of the harbor, Sunday carvery is a must

Review 3:Ordered a drink off the bartender for my girlfriend, the bartender took about 10 minutes then came back with a different drink to which we'd ordered and mumbled something about not having the ingredients. She was friendly, just a bit bizarre to be given something we hadn't ordered and we were too tired/British to complain! :D

Review 4:Great room, friendly staff and a good price!

Review 5:A busy time for the hotel, and we found lots of used plates and cutlery that hadn't been removed in the lounge - which was a little off putting.

Review 6:Had a room opposite the beach - lovely and the breakfast was super.

Review 7:We had our christmas party at the hotel. The party was great however it was rather crowded. Too many people. We did stay overnight that was fine and breakfast in the morning was good.

Review 8:The staff are excellent. The food was good, the room at the front overlooking the sea was excellent

Review 9:The prices, they over charged. very expensive and not happy with the booking, because i told them i would pay cash on arrive. when i arrive there, the booking has already took money from my credit card. i wasn't happy with , i think they should waiting for confirmation and you arrive at the Hotel , instead of debit in your card prior arriving.

Review 10:I love the view side, the staff was very helpful.

Review 11:Wonky floors Bathroom old fashioned Water pressure too low(shower head is on the wrong wall) Too much furniture making room cramped TV difficult to angle to see from desk

Review 12:Good location on the beach Parking relatively easy

Review 13:There were dirty dishes from breakfast on the aisle floor all the day long - They should pick them. It happened 2 days in a row. Not nice to see.

Review 14:Really nice staff. Room were ok and warm. Really good location

Review 15:Door was left open by cleaner, found out when returned, took payment instantly so when settled the bill, still got another transaction pending for £142.... There seem to be trust issues, not good considering I am a regular user of bookings.com ,

Review 16:not very helpful staff in the spa, not used although would have if more helpful

Review 17:lovely rooms and very clean, great restaurant service and quality of food

Review 18:The only bad thing about this hotel is that the walls are very thin, so we could hear people in the hall way throughout the night, people upstairs walking around and even people outside!

Review 19:The staff were lovely, very helpful. We were able to check in early without any hassle and they arrange a travel cot for our toddler son as per the booking request without being reminded. Breakfast was good and, at 10GBP if you prebook the day before, not a bad price. We also had the afternoon tea as an early dinner, it was very good value - nice quality cakes and sandwiches.

Review 20:The bed was uncomfortable and also moved easily so much so when sitting the bed rolled out from underneath me. The room felt cold and a lot of condensation was on the window. The staff sometimes felt disengaging with waiting a while in the bar for food and drinks to be ordered and received. Which when we did get it the food was not particularly nice

Review 21:The sea view was lovely

Review 22:I wish the hotel would include better toiletries in the bathroom .The one soap dispenser high on the wall over the bath is fine when taking a shower but not much else!

Review 23:Excellent location, beautiful old building right on the ocean. Close to town, castle, white cliffs, ferries. Staff were excellent (Ann). Fantastic gym facilities. Great breakfast. Terrible WiFi.

Review 24:There's nothing that I didn't like as such. The hotel rooms have sloping floors which is a bit odd, although they say its part of their charm.

Review 25:The room was nice, clean and cosy. The location was very good, just behind the Marina beach and walking distance from Dover priory station.

Review 26:The room was always too hot, even though no heating was on. Moreover, poor sound insulation prevented my wife and kids to sleep as the lift is next to the room and there was a wedding party 2 floors down with music all night. Upstairs neighbours could also be heard whenever they were walking around. Staff was also throwing garbage on the street in front of our window and a number of delivery and garbage trucks made our stay completely horrible.

Review 27:Location was excellent, next to the bay area and walking distance from Dover Castle.

Review 28:Nothing the people that complain about small things like the rooms being too hot need to understand how old this grand building is and fans are available in every room.

Review 29:Nothing was too much trouble. Welcoming professional staff. General Manager a people's person approachable and very understanding putting customers first.

Review 30:Dover. Castle and history aside, the desperately failing town centre was a shock.

Review 31:Convenient stop over for an early ferry. Interesting building, great position on the seafront and good value

Review 32:Construction Pile Hammer used at 1:00hrs in the morning and said by the staff to be an emergency, i am yet to get information on what emergency and who authorised a jack hammer to operate at that time. Broke my sleep and my long drive north suffered a tired driver. No compensation offered.from the Hotel, I think thats poor.

Review 33:The Outlook to the Docks

Review 34:1. Very noisy in the evening up to 12:00 a.m. 2. Floor of the room & bathroom are not even 3. Sash windows cannot close completely and noise (of the coffee shop + restaurant of the hotel) and sound of air draught made our 2 nights not so comfortable 4. The windows need more attention regarding cleaning from outside as I was not able to take any photo to the front view through the glass

Review 35:Decent size bedroom Front view room Nice breakfast

Review 36:We were on 4th floor, room was piping hot. Didn't realise we could open the windows until the next day. Room rather small and felt we were given a small double bed. Bar tender gave me a drink in a dirty glass with someone's lipstick mark! Room service quite expensive. Overall the area is quite pricey.

Review 37:We stayed with our 4 month old son. Room was cosy and shower was amazing. Bathroom very spacious. Lovely sea view.

Review 38:The room, the shower was useless, the bed moved away from the wall, it was impossible to sit up in bed, the bed was to close to the wall/radiator.

Review 39:The Food was very good, staff were very plesasant.

Review 40:Room too small. Dirty windows. Low staffing levels. No management . Poor food for evening meal. No one available to seat us for breakfast. Coffee took ages to get.

Review 41:There was nothing to like. The party being hosted took the staffing levels below minimal levels . The staff were of no age and there seemed to be no senior staff available

Review 42:Disco on until midnight. Staff clearing up had music on until 12.30.Phoned reception and music was turned down BUT I had to get dressed and go down and talk to the manager. Is it a hotel or a disco. Long journey and needed to sleep.

Review 43:Comfortable bed.

Review 44:The fact that in a family suit there is no decide as my daughter is older I didn't like she didn't have her own space for the money you pay

Review 45:Location easy to get to shops and some lovely sites. Hotel is warm and friendly room service exspencive but easy to get breakfast and meals just over the road

Review 46:We had a double room with sea view. It was a bit on the small side for a double room and the Windows did not really open that much for a fresh sea breeze. The room got really hot at night and we struggled to sleep at night. The room was very clean and room service was great.. The food was lovely. a room with balcony might have been better.

Review 47:The upgraded room was tiny and uncomfortably warm. Even adjusting the temperature on the thermostat to 12 degrees, the room was very hot. I had asked for a quiet room on booking as we were up very early for the ferry and needed a good night's sleep. We were given a sea view room which comes with the noise from the bar beneath! Not much of an upgrade really.

Review 48:The staff on reception were exceptionally friendly and offered us a free upgrade.

Review 49:The room was very hot and had there not been a fan in it to help cool things down it would have been unbearable. The hotel overall was warm but I guess in the winter it is not a bad thing

Review 50:The location was lovely and having a room with a seaview was an added bonus, the staff were helpful and the room was clean and well presented with everything needed

Review 51:The white curtains in the windows were dirty and in a bad condition.

Review 52:The hotel and its decoration and history, the impressive sea front and the convenient location for sightseeing.

Review 53:Good thing it was quiet outside; had to have the window open. No heating on, winter time, yet the room was far too warm.

Review 54:Relaxing and quiet location. Nice building.

Review 55:Single glazing made the room very chilly and since we were traveling with a baby, that's something we could have done without. Also only one tea bag for the room? Very depressing start to a day.....

Review 56:Lovely reception area and a great location! Had baby cot ready for us which was very much appreciated...

Review 57:The bathroom in the room had either been cleaned very badly or they had a serious problem with the plumbing. Either way it smelt terrible.

Review 58:The breakfast was fantastic, friendly staff, good food, lovely room.

Review 59:Room service food was awful no condiments and quality was very poor The room was drafty and there was a lot of noise from the rooms above. The bed kept moving as the room was on a slope.

Review 60:Location

Review 61:No complaints at all.

Review 62:Staff were very helpful. extremely friendly. The food in the bar at 9-30pm was excellent. In all a very good overnight stop before an early ferry

Review 63:2nd room we had, 3 days later, supposed to be an upgrade, was smaller, hardly enough room to' swing a cat'

Review 64:!st room we had on our visit was spacious but chilly and did have a bath step in to shower.

Review 65:Too short of a stay!

Review 66:We stayed with you as my 6 year old daughter was competing in a beauty pageany in Dover. We found all the staff to be extremely friendly, helpful & knowledgeable! My daughter had a photo shoot for a national newspaper on the saturday morning & Chris the duty manager went above & beyond to help us accommodate the photographer & the shoot to go ahead with very little prior warning. We would definitely stay with you again & have told lots of people including mia's agent & publicist about our experience with yourselves!

Review 67:I only found 2 VERY minor issues with the hotel, (Lift is on the small side: says 8 capacity but is more 4 capacity) and we could occasionally hear people walking on the creaky floorboards above us due to the age of the building - however this did not impact our stay at all, and we would happily return on our next trip!

Review 68:Room was well decorated; modern features (brilliant TV system) in a classic style room. It was clean, warm and comfortable with a lovely sea view. The buffet breakfast had everything needed and the waiter service was a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and polite; so made us feel very welcome.

Review 69:The bathroom was so cold we didnt even want to go to toilet in the night and the room was cold so we stayed under the blankets and watched tv apart from that everythinh was great

Review 70:The room was very nice it looked so cosy we loved the old style we really injoyed are stay

Review 71:The price was excellent for a 4star hotel and facilities good. THe staff in the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast were excellent. The evening meal was also good value

Review 72:Good value hotel, especially for an international student. Seaside view for around 100 GBP. Great room service, has a bar, a restaurant, and a local cafe that serves Starbucks in the same building. 15-20 minute walk to station (can visit other places in Kent)

Review 73:Lift a bit on the small side

Review 74:Room clean, really nice sitting and relaxing with a drink area, breakfast excellent location with lots to watch, near to town Excellent breakfast, staff friendly and helpful

Review 75:We stayed overnight as we had to catch an early ferry in the morning. It was a 5 minute drive to the ferry terminal so ideally located for our purpose. Hotel was quiet and bedroom comfortable enough with a clean bathroom.

Review 76:For us the only downside was the temperature of the rooms - in November, even with the window open, we were far too hot!

Review 77:Fabulous location on the seafront. Our room overlooked the beach. Attractive historic building. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 78:Very welcoming reception area. Warm and fun. Tastefully decorated. Fabulous area at front of hotel for drinks overlooking the ocean. Free parking. Very quiet room with comfy bed. Quirky sloping floors.

Review 79:The temperature of my room. Despite the fact that the heating was closed, my room was over warmed. I managed to sleep all nights with open windows. Thanks god the weather permitted it.

Review 80:Location, friendly environment

Review 81:The building is extremely old. We were located in a room next to the stairs and we could hear anyone coming up or down stairs. The floor wasn't even. There was a weading party taking place in the ground floor and we could hear the loud music from the 3rd floor. I found the hotel expensive as the quality was not what we expected for the price we paid. I don't recommend it at all.

Review 82:The staff was very nice and help us a lot.

Review 83:Asked for quiet room, upgraded to room with seaview, as hotel was fully booked, although we were on first floor, above bar. Noise until early hours with people smoking outside front door. Dirty glasses in bar. Pubic hair in bed! Only one person on checkout.

Review 84:Great location for one night prior to ferry crossing early morning. Pleasant bar, serving bar snacks, as we ate before restaurant opened. Staff friendly.

Review 85:Room 410 fourth floor. It was room with a sea view but was very small and very hot. Had fan in room but was not fit for purpose. Asked to change room but did not have any.

Review 86:Location was great

Review 87:In the bathroom there were hairs in the bathtub and dirty plasters (bandaids) from fingers by the sink

Review 88:Staff very friendly and found us a last minute room due to having a terrible experience at a local hostel

Review 89:Toilet was leaking, bath and shower leaked water on the floor. It was very hard to get out of bed and stay straight on a hilly floor. There were more waves covered in the floors than outside on the sea.

Review 90:The option to have a window and to look at the sea and the waves outside.

Review 91:A lovely welcome by the Reception Staff, a handy lift to all floors, the room was spotlessly clean, and full of little extras, a wonderful nights sleep, and to wake up to a lovely view of the sea. The self service breakfast was excellent with a terrific selection and as much as you wanted to eat. Restaurant staff were more than obliging and although not in the buffet, they arranged fried eggs for both myself and my wife. Thanks to everyone

Review 92:Our room was situated above the very disturbing engine room. Were slow with reaction to complaint. Afree breakfast does not compare to a sleepless night.

Review 93:Very near to ferryharbour. Excellent pub acros the street, serve fresh seafood. Life music.

Review 94:Really young staff who seemed to miss a bit of training, speaking as a person from the industry. Dirty trays in the corridor.

Review 95:Breakfast was really nice, well display with several choices. Location amazing, sea front, beautiful view on the terrace.

Review 96:Our room was small and difficult to manoeuvre around. It was also over-heated. The breakfast buffet was fairly ordinary, and over-crowded. The bar was expensive.

Review 97:The hotel is located directly on the marina, and is a short walk into town. Our room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The wi-fi was good.

Review 98:Very noisy, engine noise at the background... Not sure if it's the lift or laundry every min for a few seconds from the afternoon when we checked in until not sure went but pass mid night. It wasn't there the next morning. We both didn't have a very good night sleep although the bed was very comfy and the room is airy and cosy.

Review 99:Great location to beach and town, free parking

Review 100:The drinks seem to vary in price(the same drinks i might add) the breakfast place mats could do with renewing or cleaning properly. Apart from those minor issues we would go back

Review 101:Loved the hotel and location, very friendly staff, good food

Review 102:The room/bathroom was dated. Internet connection was spotty. TV was not working when we first turned it on. Windows were drafty.

Review 103:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff

Review 104:The room was stuffy and far too hot. The bathtiom was also dirty!

Review 105:Lovely hotel, beautifully presented. The staff were wonderful and very helpful and happy.

Review 106:Noisy neighbours weren't great and a service lift hummed quite a bit so we moved rooms.

Review 107:This hotel is a great location for access to the beach, restaurants and Dover Castle. We enjoyed the atmosphere and staff were great.

Review 108:Dining room staff were excellent especially I think her name was Carla as she found it was my birthday and brought a small cake and a candle and sand happy birthday. Very much appreciated. The location and room were also excellent. All good

Review 109:Highly overpriced for food and drink, had to complain about my food and i did recieve 50% of the dish, however breakfast was just as bad, would not stay at this hotel again. Under the rim of tbe toilet was disgusting. The staff however were very nice especially the young man on the bar.

Review 110:Location to ferry terminal

Review 111:Our TV didn't work and it wasn't very nice to pass the back door of the kitchens with dirty trays when we decided not to wait for the lift, which took ages to arrive.

Review 112:The location. Friendly staff.

Review 113:We were kept awake all night by extremely noisy people in the room next door. We were furious and in hind sight should have asked to be moved as the idea was to get a rest before travelling across France. We complained in the morning and the young night manager said he tried to quieten them but failed. The police should have been informed.

Review 114:The Location

Review 115:Room was small and hot. No a/c and window only opened a few inches. Very difficult to et seating in the bar are. Too many people, not enough tables.

Review 116:Close proximity to cruise ship terminal. Restaurant very nice, service great, and bar area pleasant when you could get a table.

Review 117:Very noisy - 1st floor room close to restaurant and unfortunately music was very loud. No aircon in the room and had to open windows which made noise worse. Very basic toiletries in bathroom- no separate shampoo or conditioner. No minibar.

Review 118:Very nice location. Staff quite helpful.

Review 119:Dirty room service tray outside our room when we arrived, there for at least 6 hours, parking a bit of a chore, front facade needs painting.

Review 120:Nice location

Review 121:People in room above woke at 5.30 and the floor creaked badly so we where awake too.

Review 122:Great sea view location. Booked room without sea view but got one with. Bed was really comfortable. They say the hotel has a personality and that is true.

Review 123:Hotel a bit dated and for the money was missing a lot of what we'd consider no brainers; I.e. no face cloths in the bathroom (or available), no fridge in the 'family room', extra cost for use of the gym, lift was impractical and no reliable wheelchair access, staff weren't very professional or up to task, ranging from not speaking English to not even asking how our stay was come checkout to standing in a group outside our room at 11pm planning service schedule for the rooms next day.

Review 124:Location was excellent and breakfast was good in that it was free for our kids (under 4).

Review 125:Wasn't advised that our room would be right under the DJ system for the Dover Regatta which we were not told about upon our arrival the day before. At one point even with the windows and curtains closed my glass of water by the bed was bouncing because of the bass from the speakers. Of the 3 reception staff we had contact with only one greeted us with a smile and the other two obviously thought that we were a big hindrance. Rooms incredibly hot even with the fan on and the windows open (once the music had finished). More disturbance by music later on in the night but I couldn't tell if it was from a room or somewhere else on the premises. Room also smelt of stale cigarette smoke - a good steam cleaning of the carpets would probably sort that out.

Review 126:Restaurant staff were excellent.

Review 127:Very nosy, could hear road noise from traffic going to the port. Wedding on,Dover regatta on non of this pre-warned. Road closed not warned of this. When checking out receptionist in office and was ignored, when I complained about the issues, clearly did not care and situation was handled very poorly.

Review 128:The double bed metres is saggy. My wife and I had to move the mattress on the floor and sleep on the floor. It is not really good to pay that much money.

Review 129:Location is good, staff is friendly, clean.

Review 130:The bed left much to be desired. The mattress slid around, leaving a gap at the top that pillows fell into. The room was quite small, the bathroom narrow. The prices for meals were outrageous. A simple breakfast roll could not be bought individually, you had to pay all the buffet price to get one.

Review 131:Staff was most helpful but had only one person at the desk. Other staff might be there but always deferred to the primary one, who seemed to always be involved with the phone or a line of guests. It is sad to hear (from locals) that this historic building is going to be torn down for a new mall-type hotel structure. Sad.

Review 132:The restaurant staff rather disorganised . lots of them but poorly coordinated. No sea view from the room

Review 133:Great location, nice views from restaurant. Lovely old seaside hotel

Review 134:No complaints. Clearing tables at the bar when in a speedier fashion when people have finished would be an improvement.

Review 135:a good level of comfort and service

Review 136:too hot! not much they can do about the weather but turning the aircon on, at least in communal areas, would be a plus. Same as previous reviews, new bed linen needed i.e. ones that fit and aren't marked/ripped.

Review 137:lovely room, great view, marvellous staff as always.

Review 138:The television had poor reception which wasn't great for the little one but he was entertained by the seagulls on our balcony. The wifi was a little difficult to set up but got there eventually. Booking.com made out as if this hotel is really close to Margate when in actual fact it was a 45 minute drive. Worth it though, would stay again!

Review 139:The room was absolutely fantastic. it was really clean and the beds was really comfortable. The view was amazing and the staff were really helpful. Room service was speedy and straightforward.

The Fine Print

If pre-booked, breakfast costs GBP 10 per person, per night. The Gym and sauna are free to hotel guests. There is also a Spa offering a variety of treatments that need to be booked in advance.
