Reviews for Luttrell Arms
Review 1:On arrival I enquired about parking, I was told, by the lady who booked us in, that there was some free street parking. On pointing out that this was full I was told to go to the public car park a distance away but to be sure to pay from 9am the following morning. This I did but subsequently discovered from literature in the room that I could have been given a permit to display at the car park. I feel that I should have been offered this when I booked in.
Review 2:The old world style
Review 3:I only got a double bed when I fought I was getting a kings size. Did not think my room was worth the money I payed. Expected more for my money.
Review 4:The setting of the hotel, bar, beautiful building.
Review 5:Bar gets pretty busy with locals, but might have been because it was December. Also it's an old building so the potential for ghosts was higher than I would've ideally liked
Review 6:Location was perfect and food top notch
Review 7:I couldn't stay longer.
Review 8:Fantastic service from EVERY member of staff. I have never experienced such good customer service in any hotel anywhere else in the world. With a lovely setting, beautiful rooms, varied and good value menu on top, this is a first rate place to stay.
Review 9:The lack of designated carparking is a total pain. Car parking is at a premium on the street and as soon as a space becomes available it is snapped up. When you are trying to check in/out with bags, dog and small children, it is just an unnecessary hassle. The food is reasonable, but the 'specials' menu didn't change at all in the time we were there so options were limited. One meal on our first night arrived incorrectly and by the time it was corrected the rest of our party had finished eating. The childrens menu is limited and although the staff stated a half portion could be supplied off the main menu we were told we would still be charged full price. Beware of other financial add-ons. We thought our room price was reasonable value only to find that additional costs were added per child per night, and none of this included anyone's breakfast which was a significant additional charge, plus a dog charge (although this had been expected) A room that we had anticipated would cost £130/night ended up costing £211.50/night. I'm happy to pay a premium for a historic stay, but this represented poor value for money all considered.
Review 10:The hotel is beautifully quiet. We had a lovely family room overlooking the garden at the rear, well away from any road noise, and up in the eaves so their was no noise from inside the hotel either. Very friendly staff, and a building oozing with history.
Review 11:Smart TV in room was rather erratic and kept freezing after only a couple of channel selections but this was no biggie.
Review 12:Lovely old building in fantastic location. Lots of different rooms to choose from from cosy bar to posh dining room.
Review 13:The ventilation fan in the bathroom was rather noisy.
Review 14:The history of the building, the ambience, the competence of the staff & the overall experience was fantastic.
Review 15:A very small sized room. with poor position and road noise, less than good value for price paid. Public rooms always crowded -.at expense of residents.
Review 16:Good overall facilities and friendly staff
Review 17:There is no parking
Review 18:Room service is a must on a lazy Sunday morning, staff very attentive, amazing location, stunning hotel, you won't be disappointed with the food and drink
Review 19:We had a lovely room with a private garden and patio at the rear. Very comfortable. We ate in the bar which, with its great selection of beers and roaring log fires, was very welcoming. Food was excellent too! Superb breakfasts and very friendly staff.
Review 20:We had a standard family room. The view to back garden was lovely. However furniture in room is due for updating. Bed was very uncomfortable so we both woke with bad backs.
Review 21:Beautiful hotel with historic features and a warm cosy feel. Great location.
Review 22:This was our second stay at the Luttrell Arms in Dunster, and it was amazing! The staff are superb, very welcoming and professional, and the shared grounds/bars/patios really added to the experience. Our room was fantastic, sitting over the outdoor patio with live music playing. Just a wonderful experience all around!
Review 23:Even though the bathroom was nice and clean, the shower was located above the bath with a sloping ceiling therefore you had to bend to wash your hair if you didn't want a bath.
Review 24:Great hotel in a beautiful location. The staff were very accommodating and made us sandwiches when we returned from a wedding at 2am. I also left my jacket behind and they have arranged to post it to my home address free of charge. The food was delicious and not too expensive - service was still relatively quick despite there being a large group of us.
Review 25:Could have used more power-points in our room, only because we bothwanted to charge phones, use a computer and boil a kettle....but we onlyhad three power-points! Tv controls were rubbish - we did point out thatsome of the channels (bbc1) appeared to be locked, but nothing was donewhile we were there for our 3 night stay. But hey, we weren't therefor the tv.
Review 26:The staff were incredibly friendly and our room (35) was verycomfortable and clean. The hotel bar, food and decor are all beautiful.Location is superb and the village is ideal with lots of lovely quirkylittle shops and an amazing restaurant, Reeves nearby.
Review 27:A fantastic weekend away at the Luttrell Arms. Staff were accommodating, room was beautiful with our own little patio and excellent food in the restaurant.
Review 28:The only thing I could mention, the room was warm at night but on opening the window, found it to be a little noisy, due to traffic. When we stay next time, will ask for a quiet room.
Review 29:We were given the history on the building, which was very interesting. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.
Review 30:I was travelling with a friend as we had a wedding to go to in the area. I think we must have got one of the last available twin rooms on what was probably a very busy weekend. It was also an exceptionally hot weekend. The room was very cramped. To the extent you couldn't pass each other behind the beds. It felt like a single room which had had two beds put into it. We had to have the window open because of the heat. And as we were at the front of the hotel the window opened onto the road at the front which was surprisingly noisy from quite early in the morning. Unfortunately, it was not a very comfortable experience.
Review 31:Overall, the hotel is delightful. The reception rooms, restaurants, bars, outdoor terraces and gardens are exceptionally picturesque. Great views from the very pretty gardens which have some lovely secluded areas and terraces. Can't comment on the food because we were staying on a bed and breakfast basis. But in terms of atmosphere, location and charm it scores highly. We also found staff friendly and helpful.
Review 32:Over Priced Had to pay on check in (I travel all over the world, never had to do that before) Poor Wi-Fi signal in Room Cheap Paper Napkins in restaurant. Should be Linen for restaurant of that quality
Review 33:Good Location
Review 34:Our room was just above the smokers area which meant we couldn't leave the windows open at night which made for a very hot room and two bad nights sleep. Only an issue when it's hot in the summer months I suspect. It really didn't affect our overall stay though.
Review 35:Really friendly attentive staff. We stayed in a four poster bedroom and it was such a lovely room, very comfortable. Great shower. Ability to take dog straight out into the field was great! Very doggy friendly thank you!
Review 36:Poor breakfast- weak coffee on three mornings improved on one occasion. In general a very limited choice for the breakfast and some items like the marmalade poor in quality. Not what you would expect at a four star hotel.
Review 37:Good friendly staff and well appointed room.
Review 38:Service at breakfast was a bit vague, and 3 people sent toast back as it wasn't toasted. Small issues really.
Review 39:Warm welcome, a very clean and comfortable room. Great to wander down to the bar for a comfortable seat good beer and food. Location is great too..
Review 40:The quirky personality of the hotel. The friendly staff and the excellent organisation of my daughter's wedding making it a perfect day. A big thank you to all.
Review 41:The room was stuffy and we were unable to make it more comfortable despite having the window open
Review 42:The Luttrell Arms was comfortable and well appointed. All our needs were catered for. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
Review 43:Would have liked something lighter to eat in the evening but perhaps I'll just have a starter and pud next time!
Review 44:We like the hotel and have stayed there several times. Dunster is very pretty and we enjoy going for long walks. The excellent breakfasts set us up well for the day and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 45:Expensive Small details poor - e.g. bin not emptied, TV remote not working. Parking not straightforward - hard to see how they can resolve this
Review 46:Friendly, efficient staff Good ambience Comfortable
Review 47:Only downside is the Wi-Fi connection but you have to bear in mind the age of the building and the thickness of the walls. Could not connect at all in the bedroom.
Review 48:Comfortable surroundings and very polite, friendly staff
Review 49:A few guys had been in the bar for a little too long when we went for a drink! Just bad luck I guess.
Review 50:The food was very good (the cod was delicious) and delivered with care by pleasant staff. I'd happily go again.
Review 51:The rooms were lovely. Unfortunately my husband and I ended up in single beds which wasn't a big problem but they were not the most comfortable and seemed very small my 6ft husband struggled to fit in to the bed comfortably.
Review 52:The location of this hotel is brilliant! You can walk straight out of the door and you are in the Dunster high Street. The food was fantastic. The breakfast options were brilliant.
Review 53:I couldn't manage floor electric sockets easily. Stairs difficult due to lack of hand rail on both sides in places. Distinct lack of vegetarian food at all the meals; meals are easily adapted using Quorn substitutes eg Quorn Bourguignon, Quorn sausages.
Review 54:Stunning room 17. Relaxed atmosphere. Whole place is welcoming and homely.
Review 55:My partner and I decided to go away for a long weekend, and our stay at the Luttrell Arms was wonderful. We stayed in a four poster room which was beautiful and very clean and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The bar area has two lovely fires which were perfect to relax in front of with a glass of wine or two! We would definitely recommend staying here.
Review 56:The bedroom radiator was noisy and needed bleeding. It was fixed immediately.
Review 57:Lovely old building with all mod cons. Top class bar food with friendly service.
Review 58:Elevator music at the breakfast table
Review 59:The designer has done an excellent job of making the bedrooms and public areas feel welcoming, stylish and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good and fairly priced. The hotel seems to have achieved the difficult job of ensuring the bar is popular with locals while remaining welcoming for everyone - good craic.
Review 60:Booked a four poster room in the January sale for a weekend away - the room was more like a suite, very comfy and well appointed. The food was great, both in the restaurant and bar, as was breakfast. It had a lovely atmosphere with friendly staff - will definitely be returning.
Review 61:the bed was a little too soft, but that is a personal opinion, otherwise nothing wrong at all
Review 62:The Hotel team were very friendly and could not do enough to make you feel welcome. Tilly was an added bonus, a lovely little springer, who is quiet and makes you feel at home. The roooms are confortable and the food is exceptional. We will try to return soon, but for leisure instead of business next time, and take opportunity to explosre the surrounding area.
Review 63:'Full of character' usually means tired, but the Luttrell has been refitted out and still has its olde worlde charm, open fires and good, proper food. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful, not hovering around your every move. Thoroughly recommend the place.
Review 64:Dinner menu was a little limited and was hoping for some reference to Burns' night. The price of drinks, particularly mixers seemed high.
Review 65:Loved the room, location and the service. The bar was lively and well stocked. Very charming ambience and very comfortable room.
Review 66:front door bell does not work. We arrived back at 23.10 and as the door was locked we had to telephone the hotel for them to let us in.
Review 67:bar open all day and excellent staff
Review 68:Thought the price for the breakfast at £10.50 was slightly over priced for what you get, It was a lovely tastey breakfast but a little over priced.
Review 69:The hotel was lovely very comfortable warm and inviting, the bar area was full of character food was lovely and reasonably priced with a varied choice, restaurant was very good, food was very tasty and again reasonably priced, room was great bed was very comfortable bath room was clean and we had our own private patio area , staff were very approachable, friendly and help full.
Review 70:No parking, poor food quality and service, hotel dominated by the noisy and crowded public bar. TV didn't work and staff were unable to fix it. This used to be a nice hotel; I have stayed there before. Now it is just a pub with rooms, and as such it is poor value.
Review 71:Attractive building, charming setting in a lovely village
Review 72:WiFi was annoying but rectification was in hand. The bathroom of our 4 poster room was a bit tired.
Review 73:Lovely atmosphere with committed management and charming staff. Ultra dog friendly which our Lab much appreciated. Great walks from the back door. We shall return soon.
Review 74:Parking was the only potential problem. I quite understand there's nothing they can do because of the location.
Review 75:Lovely building, very historical, comfortable stable and secure atmosphere, very attractive decor. Wonderful bar facilities. Cuisine very good. At this time of year, very nice Christmas decorations too!
Review 76:TV reception was poor. There were some rather intrusive drunken locals in the bar.
Review 77:The setting on a medieval village high street was superb, with access to walks, a castle, shops and the coast. There was a warm welcome from efficient and friendly staff. There was a choice of bar meals or a smarter restaurant option. The room was spacious, comfortable and beautifully furnished. The building itself was interesting and full of character.
Review 78:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good with good selection of local produce, and a decent selection of local ales for us beer lovers. Bedrooms were well equiped and comfortable.
Review 79:The shower in our bathroom was not really fit for purpose being too tight against the wall although this did not detract from our overall enjoyment
Review 80:Most things
Review 81:Nothing
Review 82:The only staff we met were in the reception and restaurant both of these people could not have been more efficient. A very comfortable hotel, good quality rooms. We only ate breakfast at the hotel and this was excellent.
Review 83:Sadly the hotel made an error on my bill and 5 hours after I checked out they rang me to advise that I owed them another £20. I didn't see how this could be, but even if the accounting was right it was not very professional to chase a guest after they have checked out for a mistake the hotel made (esp for only £20 after I had stayed 3 nights and spent around £350). Also the fire alarm went off twice during my stay, at around 9pm when I was in my room preparing to shower. Finally there was a large pelmet in my room covering the top of the curtains which was very very dusty indeed (a previous guest had actually left a hand print in it). So would I recommend it, yes but with a recommendation to keep a close check on your bill.
Review 84:The staff offer good service and are friendly and chatty. The bar food was excellent (I had a superb chicken pie) and the real ale was splendid (Exmoor Gold). The room was of a good size, the bed very comfortable and the shower effective and easy to work. Free WiFi was included (which worked well in my room) and I also had a fridge in my room which came in handy.
Review 85:The Hotel is beautiful, full of character, the Staff were very friendly, the checking in and out process was so easy, we had room 14 with the 4 poster bed and the room gives such a romantic atmosphere, we had a fabulous time staying there and the surrounding area is gorgeous with the Castle, the beaches, villages, towns, horse riding all within walking distance its amazing and it was so incredible I will be back soon.
Review 86:I found the age of the hotel gave it a unique charm. The room was comfortable, the staff very obliging and friendly and dinner in the restaurant was excellent.
Review 87:Lack of a car park
Review 88:A comfortable room. Very good food in both the restaurant and the bar. A garden with a good view over the town and castle. A great location in the high street with friendly and efficient staff.
Review 89:The hotel does not have its own car park and there was limited parking outside. Our car had to be left in a public car park around the corner overnight and charges were applied during the day.
Review 90:Right in the centre of beautiful Dunster, surrounded by quaint little shops, coffee shops and with an easy walk to the castle. Good service. High standard of cleanliness, comfort and quality food.
Review 91:The only thing I did not like was the pillows being very soft and as I am an asthma sufferer I did not sleep to well as I cannot sleep flat.
Review 92:The staff very helpful as we were there with other extended family members to celebrate 30 year wedding anniversary and we all enjoyed the food and the waiting staff were extremly helpful. Once again thanks .
Review 93:With its location on Dunster High Street, on street parking can be an issue.
Review 94:Without exception, the staff were very friendly, extremely helpful and efficient. Our room was beautifully furnished. The garden was a delight.
Review 95:Noises crowd in bar shouting and swearing and not dealt with by bar staff. Being asked who is first at the bar and then being ignored by the staff.
Review 96:Location. Free Parking nearby. Good fresh made meals. Excellent dining room
Review 97:Lack of parking. There are limited vouchers for free parking for guests in a local Pay and Display. This limitation was not mentioned, so we had to pay to park. Also, Breakfast was £10.50 each. Although the quality was excellent, the portion was small. Also Breakfast is not included with Booking.com which was not clear "no meal option" on the confirmation was taken by me to mean, no "Half board", so my bill wasd £42 more than anticipated.
Review 98:Comfort & Facilities. Room was clean, perhaps needs a renovation. Food, Drink and Location is perfect and all staff were friendly and professional.
Review 99:Church bells all through the night! Bathroom was lovely & functional, but a tad bland when compared to the room.
Review 100:Room. Bed. Fireplace. Everything about the lovely old hotel. Friendly bar staff & a wonderful sing song in the evening!
Review 101:It was only possible to park half way down the road but the staff happily carried our bags to the room. The room was fantastic, individually designed furniture and a superb king size bed. Evening meal was fabulous. Will definitely stay there again in the future.
Review 102:the WIFI in the rest of the hotel was patchy but understandable due to the age of the property and thick walls Water pressure could be a little better
Review 103:My room was wonderful The garden was a lovely place to eat as was the restaurant Great food Access to Dunster and the surrounding area Free car parking Wifi in the room
Review 104:It's on a road so although not a main road there is quite a bit of traffic noise.
Review 105:Great staff, beautiful view from the secret garden and surprisingly good food.
Review 106:Some staff could have been friendlier and food and service in dining room was poor
Review 107:Fantastic setting and building. Complaints about the restaurant were addressed
Review 108:Confusing number of tariffs and packages. We thoughts we had booked B&B on booking.com but the email back from the hotel said breakfast was not included? Too difficult to verify exactly what we had booked. I presume the mistake was ours but we would never book Bed only as we love our breakfasts.
Review 109:Fantastic decor, restoration of interior to original style. Beautiful bedroom with 4-poster bed and huge bathroom. Excellent dinner with attentive service. Lovely old bar area, internal courtyard and garden terrace areas. Beautiful village setting looking up at the castle
Review 110:Room was a little bit stuffy on a hot day/night. Don't particularly need air conditioning but a fan in each room would have been a welcome provision (they only had a limited number of these).
Review 111:Polite and helpful staff, a good breakfast and a delightful garden to chill out in on a summer's evening. Location perfect for Dunster Castle and exploring the area. The Murder Mystery Evening was great fun.
Review 112:some building work going on inconvenienced the use of the private terrace
Review 113:the quirky atmosphere and the staff going that extra mile to do everything they could to make the stay excellent
Review 114:Can't think of anything
Review 115:Lovely room overlooking the Main Street. Super breakfast
Review 116:Had to wait at Bar too long! Paying extra for breakfast!
Review 117:All the Staff excellent,
Review 118:Not too keen on the table magician in the restaurant!
Review 119:Great location and very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 120:Absolutely beautiful property in one of the most quintessentially English locations. Friendly staff, lovely stay :)
Review 121:The trouble of parking which was a real pain, but not the Hotel's fault.
Review 122:Being in the centre of Dunster was amazing.
Review 123:excellent stay and very friendly and helpful staff
Review 124:breakfast not included in price
Review 125:pretty historic setting
Review 126:Free upgraded room
Review 127:Wonderful hotel and staff.
Review 128:No parking
Review 129:The welcome the staff gave, the decor of the room, a lovely shower and bath.
Review 130:Parking difficulties
Review 131:The old building steeped in history but very much in today's world, with new refurbishment and great use of public spaces.
Review 132:Stunning location wonderful food and a purely indulgent romantic break. Thank you. We will return
