Reviews for Burley Manor

Review 1:The plug in the sink! Didn't work The phone!

Review 2:Clean, warm room Lovely bed with lovely pillows and sheets The gorge homemade cookies Complimentary mineral water

Review 3:Only one small consideration was the height of my shower which was slightly low, good for me as I am only 5'3 but anyone taller may have struggled. Not a problem for me though.

Review 4:I booked a classic double and the room far exceeded my expectations.lt was large & spacious and very welcoming. The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave it in the morning. I loved large large bottles of water and extensive selection of teas & amazing mini home made cookies The Manor House is in a picturesque quiet location & internally is beautifully and tastefully decorated. The roaring fire at reception made for a fantastic first impression & this was maintained through out my stay. I have children but welcomed the idea of staying at a child free hotel! I would definitely stay again, very reasonably priced.

Review 5:It wasn't what we didn't like but there were a few teething problems that are in the process of being addressed. The manager asked us for feedback as we were leaving and I'm sure that next time we stay all will be perfect.

Review 6:From the moment you arrive you are enveloped in a warm and professional manner. All the staff are friendly and have obviously been well trained to make guests comfortable. The bathroom and shower was brilliant and everything was sparkling clean.

Review 7:The staff seemed a bit scatty at first, but they were very friendly at all times and did everything possible to accommodate us.

Review 8:The hotel has just been renovated and it's made a huge difference. The rooms are really clean, spacious and modern. The food in the restaurant was really good too!

Review 9:we had one evening meal which we thought was very poor which was a shame i am going to send a email to the general manager because i thing this could be looked at

Review 10:We liked this place very much and the staff were first class

Review 11:One minor problem was the TV signal was not very good.

Review 12:The staff were very helpful, nothing was problem. The food was excellent. The room was very comfortable and quiet.

Review 13:I didn't like the fact that they got our room wrong. After complaining was told that the room I had booked there was none left off so had to settle for something that wasn't what I was expecting.

Review 14:Room 28. Door to terrace very stiff - unusable without considerable force. No towels - had to be requested. Missing information booklet. TV did not work (terrible strength of signal).

Review 15:The staff were very helpful and the shower was excellent.

Review 16:Would be good if they had a spa/massage facilities

Review 17:Rooms were spacious, clean and super comfy. Beautiful view from the room. Staff were very helpful and friendly, plus food was amazing. Would definitely stay again.

Review 18:Would be good to be able to have a GLASS of WINE - only available for champagne. People don't necessarily want a carafe which is the current offering.

Review 19:The ethos of it, including the hotel's involvement with the English 'Slow Food' movement. Menu carefully thought out and not fussy. Delicious food. Super comfy bed !

Review 20:We have stayed at the Burley manor before but it has been extensively revamped, cant find fault with anything at all even though the building work was still being carried out, the staff were "the best" & we loved every minute of out stay.

Review 21:Unfortunately the hotel was being refurbished and there was no dining facilities. And for me niot having a car it was a fair distance from the station. But saying that would like to go back when the work has been completed.

Review 22:The staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms comfortable and the view was stunning.

Review 23:Building works going on. Accessible shower flooding all the time. Blind fixing came off so couldn't put it up to sit in bed and admire the deer. It was not fixed when I went back for the 2nd night, but I was given an upgrade which was very good.

Review 24:The location

Review 25:IT WAS PERFECT!!!

Review 26:Fantastic location, in centre of Burley village, luxury 5 star accommodation rooms spacious newly refurbished, some with door to small patio leading to garden overlooking fields with roaming deer, efficient friendly staff, once refurbishment of main building is finished in Nov 2015 Hotel will be truly amazing!

Review 27:hotel in poor condition going through refurbishment but still charging top money. Pet friendly £30 per night small dog lets hope they don't get unfriendly. Unlikely to return

Review 28:position of hotel

Review 29:Pity the kitchen was being renovated which was a little noisy and messy. The £30 a night charge for our do was a bit excessive.

Review 30:Amazing room, view, grounds and staff

Review 31:The hotel has apparently undergone a change of ownership and is in the process of being renovated, so there are areas that still require work e.g. no carpet on the stairs in the entrance hall.

Review 32:Lovely, quiet location, close to the centre of the New Forest village of Burley. Amazing to see a herd of deer grazing outside. Characterful, old building with a beautiful carved staircase. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Excellent value for money.

Review 33:Common areas tired. Breakfast was disappointing. I had smoked salmon with scrambled egg. The salmon was warm, no lemon or black pepper. The egg was very wet and tasteless. My husbands full english was only ok.

Review 34:The room was first class. Exceptional. Live towels and dressing gowns/slippers

Review 35:We've been coming to this hotel for 5 years now (we often ride at the stables) and the staff are always very friendly, the food is great, the location breathtaking and accomodation spot on.

Review 36:No bar menu available as they only had one chef working. I appre iate that thus was because they were not busy, but surely they should look after the guests they have got.We would have walked into the village pub, but the weather was awful.

Review 37:Location was excellent for us. The hotel was a lovely old building and very comfortable.staff were very helpful.

Review 38:Went in dining room for dinner on my first evening: the food wasdreadful and I had to send the main course back as it was inedible. Didnot eat there any more during my stay and they did not charge for thedinner - moreover, they told me that no-one paid for dinner that night.

Review 39:The adjacent parkland with free-running deer.

Review 40:The most expensive place for a pet to stay in the UK. £30 for one night and no facilities. A complete shock and rip off. Beware! This cost is not shown upfront.

Review 41:The location is good

Review 42:Poor wifi at the top of the hotel but the room was huge

Review 43:The young lady on the front desk could not have been more helpful. She was dealing with a very difficult guest (some people are never happy) but found the time to settle me in and make sure I felt welcome. Truly grace under pressure. Promote here. The accomidation was excellent and the surrounding area perfect. A far cry from many a hotel in the area

Review 44:Dreadfully uncomfortable beds totally runining the break due to tiredness and stiff back/neck. Pillows you find in a 'sun holiday' caravan. No air in the room, stuffy, hot, uncomfortable. Dirty barthroom. Shower didn't work.

Review 45:Lovely location

Review 46:Rooms and hotel can see nothing done for many years and plumming , beds, furniture need a lot doing to it. Bed we had was as hard as the floor and pillows like marshmallows . Dripping taps!

Review 47:The staff were extremly friendly snd helpfull. Undergoing a complete referb also of staff so when complete end of year will be excellent. Vision and staff worth returning to see. The new manager ' Matthew' was excellent and made you enthusiastic about how the hotel and staff will be when complete.

Review 48:Breakfast: find your seat, have cold toast late, find butter yourself.... eggs Benedict was revolting, black spots on white egg mush....inedible and not free range as advertised: although I did longingly see beautiful yellow eggs Benedict served to another customer.

Review 49:The good staff were excellent, and made up for the few completely inexperienced staff.

Review 50:Bed was a little firm , but I sleep on memory foam so anything will be on the hard side for me. Room was lovely.

Review 51:Perfect retreat from busy life. Stunning peaceful location. View of deer from bedroom. Just lovely . Will definatley be back.

Review 52:Very poor value for money. Tired, old and scruffy hotel in need of major investment and yet charging £89 per night and then asking for an additional £8 for breakfast! Bed was in very poor condition, reception area scruffy and unkempt with exposed wiring everywhere.

Review 53:Room size, location, cotton bedding and towels.

Review 54:We were in Room 14 and I am sorry to say that I was not at all impressed. The room was very outdated and dirty and the bed had not been made up into a twin as previously requested. That being said, it was quite a comfortable sleep and the room was cosy (but for the stomping above us). I understand that you are having refurbishments, and obviously Room 14 had not been paid attention to, but it was not worth the £109.00 I paid for it. I would also have expected breakfast to be included for such a price.

Review 55:The location and surrounding areas are to die for. Perfect!

Review 56:Loud music playing most of night from next room . Lovely room but no character and that is what we were after. We could have stayed in a Premier Inn for a fraction of the cost and had a very similar room.

Review 57:The deer.

Review 58:I feel very dissapointed with the evening menu. No healthy option and food was overly salted

Review 59:All members of the staff were very polite and professional. Food was served quickly

Review 60:Our original room was very good however in the morning we discovered the shower was not working to an acceptable standard. Spoke to reception before breakfast and by end of breakfast we were informed that our room would be changed. We packed and they moved everything to new room upon our return. Good service from all staff throughout our stay.

Review 61:none or poor signal/wifi great if you are relaxing and getting away from it all...not good if you need to work !! Restaurant closed on night I stayed

Review 62:lovely location on edge of Burley village with wonderful views overlooking a herd of deer

Review 63:Not enough evening meal choice waited 40 minutes for desert only to find it had been microwaved to an inch of its life. Come on guys a place like this should be cooking fresh breakfast good but short out the evening's.bed was rock hard gave both of us bad backs and bad night's sleep room 38.

Review 64:New room was great staff great venue great will stay again hope bad points sorted

Review 65:We were upgraded to a super, newly decorated room without being asked, but the bill

Review 66:Peaceful surroundings, lovely outdoor pool and very comfortable room with access directly to gardens.

Review 67:Felt the bed springs, a bit uncomfortable. Shower was useless, unless you were 2 foot tall.

Review 68:Location, great place. Really good looking building. Friendly staff pretty good value.

Review 69:Given a very old room, very squeaky floor boards, broken blind and cobwebs in bathroom, etc… Not worth the money at all!! Very upsetting to see it is now rated 7.5 as it was 9.1 when booked!!

Review 70:The location is very nice

Review 71:The dining room is badly in need of refurbishment. It hasn't been significantly redecorated in 25 years. I know, I used to stay there 25 years ago!

Review 72:Our room was spacious, modern and well fitted. The pool and gardens were great, as is the location if you want to visit the New Forest.

Review 73:Room wasn't ready til gone 3.30pm. No restaurant because of a wedding.

Review 74:Room was brand new and beautiful. Staff was very helpful and apologetic regarding teething problems. Beautiful views and gardens, was nice, watching the deer. Would like to return once the refurbishment is complete.

Review 75:Hotel was in a general shabby state of repair with very creaky floorboards. There is no lift so suitcases have to be carried up and down stairs. To be fair hotel staff did offer to carry our bags.

Review 76:Breakfast was good, but had to pay extra for this. Nice views over dear park.Nice conservatory.

Review 77:To discover main restaurant closed for dinners. No information folder in room Switches for bedside lights all on one side of bed Too many chairs for the space. Old worn out wardrobe

Review 78:Helpful staff

Review 79:Being woken in the middle of the night on one occasion was most unwelcome. It was either builders or kitchen staff prepping for the next day but the night staff sorted it as soon as I phoned down.

Review 80:All the staff were brilliant, very helpful and friendly. Lovely old stately home. Fantastic setting.

Review 81:Bed uncomfortable, shower was a dribble, tap on sink wouldn't stop, bathroom floor filthy, decor dated and tatty. From outside, the building looks great and decent value, but room makes this hugely overpriced. Apparently they are refurbishing the place – it certainly needs a huge makeover. (oh and if you're on EE you won't have any reception, not really a criticism of the hotel though)

Review 82:Staff where nice

Review 83:Showers on top floor had no pressure, family fighting in room close by disturbed the whole hotel.

Review 84:Excellent location and grounds, riding stables on site, large rooms.

Review 85:Unaware the property was under renovation when booking, no restaurant facility, the double bed had a duvet designed for a smaller bed.

Review 86:The location is perfect

Review 87:atmosphere of the early 1900's with dear on the lawns and wild horses in the nearby streets.

Review 88:Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good and dinner at a sister hotel was very good apart from slow service.

Review 89:Coffees were charged to my room, which we did not have. They were not signed for by my mother or myself. The curtains were ripped The sofa was threadbare on one arm

Review 90:Beautiful location Large airy room Comfy bed

Review 91:The entire place is in need of serious modernisation. Whilst clean, the room was like a relic from the 70's and didn't appear to have been decorated in several decades. From the peeling floral wallpaper to the trickling lukewarm shower, it was seriously over-priced. I'd at least have expected to have breakfast included in the room rate.

Review 92:The building is grand and in a fabulous location. Staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable.

Review 93:The hotel has obviously changed hands after some lean years. The decor and carpets reflect this. The plans for change are on show and it will probably look very different on the next stay, if we can still afford it!

Review 94:The setting is fantastic, the staff friendly and the food excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. Forest all round and the village is just a few steps away.

Review 95:Restaurant closed because of renovation, had to change room because the first room had not been cleaned. These issues would not stop me staying again.

Review 96:Great location, really nice breakfast, nice staff.

Review 97:Pool was out of action and rooms were a bit dated and needed refurbishing. They were however really comfortable.

Review 98:Location is excellent and staff were really helpful and friendly.

Review 99:The only complaint was the men serving breakfast.. they weren't very friendly and seemed to be in a hurry to get breakfast served..

Review 100:We were in the New Forest for a few days pony spotting and for my daughter to go riding.. so the location was perfect for us. Just a 2 minute walk to Burley Manor Riding Stables. The staff were very friendly and helpful.. Our twin room was huge.. beds were ok but have seen better days.. but there is evidence of the refurbishment so should all be nice and new before too long. I would definately go back.. next time with my dogs.

Review 101:The Manor is a little tired and could do with some refurbishment. Our room was very spacious but was cold, and although clean, the room and the bathroom needed to be updated. The evening meal was like an average home cooked meal and therefore overpriced.

Review 102:The location of the Manor amongst the farmland & the Forest is fabulous. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Review 103:There was an empty shampoo bottle from previous occupants still on the floor of the shower!

Review 104:Easy parking, great location, only a short walk to the village. Lovely comfortable bed.

Review 105:Furniture in room very shabby. Huge pot holes in drive to car park.

Review 106:Easy access from car park to ground floor room. Good for dogs. Evening meal and breakfast very enjoyable, although limited menu.

Review 107:Booked a double room and when arrived it was a twin room. Changed to the only other available room and told it was a double room - it was two single beds pushed together. Offered to move to sister hotel but at nearly 11pm as if we were going to do that. No option but to stay there. Booked room over 2 months ago so this is not acceptable. Emailed manager and managers manager and haven't even received a reply! So not impressed

Review 108:The hotel is in serious need of refurbishment. Having spoken to the receptionist, they advised that nothing has been spent on it in the last 20 years, although they have just been taken over and a refurbishment is due to commence imminently. The carpets, chairs, curtains were all stained and there were cobwebs in the bathroom.

Review 109:Location was good

Review 110:Rooms could do with some maintenance - door handle loose, ripped wallpaper, headboard damaged, stained carpets, balcony decking very weathered. Bathroom did not have a window so utilised a fan system which took 5-10 minutes to turn off and was very noisey.

Review 111:Lovely staff member upgraded out room free of charge due to quiet period at hotel. Lovely views and location.

Review 112:Tired furnishings. hotel in need of extensive refurbishment. Bathroom could have been cleaner. No hot water in the shower in one of the rooms in the party.

Review 113:Staff were very pleasant, nothing too much trouble. The bed was very comfortable and clean. Great setting short walk into Burley.

Review 114:Unfortunately the mattress of the 4 poster was lumpy and very uncomfortable. Seemed as old as the wonderful bed.....Had to put the eiderdown over it to be able to sleep. Apart from that excellent

Review 115:Wonderful room with stunning views on 2 sides, 4 poster bed, large 2 person bath. Free wi-fi, great restaurant with excellent dinner and breakfast made to order. Staff were friendly and helpful and loads of free parking. One minute walk to the beautiful Burley Village.

Review 116:There was nothing i didnt like about the hotel, some parts abit shabby but its an old buildingc

Review 117:The hotel is situated in a beautiful setting, the rooms were clean, bed was comfy and the food was superb!!

Review 118:Urgently needs renovation. Understand new owners (New Forest Hotels) have this in hand.

Review 119:Beautiful location overlooking deer park. Faux manor house design.

Review 120:Receptionist was not very happy when we arrived but was better by the morning. Parts of the hotel was looking tired and needed some maintenance. The grounds needed some attention.

Review 121:Good size room with a lovely view without paying the extra. Very grand and original features in the hotel. Very grand dining room with an added conservatory. Good nights sleep without being disturbed by other guests. The breakfast was amazing, excellent choice and delicious!

Review 122:Service was great and the room was better than expected, great grass area for the dogs to run around. The evening meal and the breakfast were very good.

Review 123:didnt like the fact thatthe hotel allowed dogs

Review 124:the hotel was in its own grounds with red deer who visited at sunset.two minutes walk to the village.there are riding stables behind the hotel with a great ride/walk into the forest where you can see free roaming ponies.nice couple of pubs within a five minute walk, especially the Queens woth nice food and decor.

Review 125:Worn out interior furnishings, carpets, bathroom. Mattress was a little too soft.

Review 126:The peacefulness of the location, the history of the hotel and friendly staff. Bedlinen was good quality.

Review 127:The poor English speaking waitress gave me a hot plate which i then burnt my hand on. She said "hot" but nothing more.

Review 128:We have stayed here several times and really like it. The stable block is fantastic if you have a dog as you can just open the patio doors and let him roam safely.

Review 129:We had a premier room which was lovely and big, the breaskfast was lovely and they cooked to order. The only thing I would say is for a premier room it could do with a update.

Review 130:Great location for the local village, staff were very polite and food excellent. Room was clean, and view was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel

Review 131:The bedroom we had been allocated was small, dark and very tired. We were told they were fully booked but found us a better room when we said we couldn't possibly stay two nights in that room. Breakfast was clearly cooked by two different people, first morning it was lovely second morning was heated up bacon and sausage and tough. We will not be staying there again.

Review 132:The location of the hotel was perfect for us to visit mother who is in a nursing home nearby

Review 133:There was nothing negative about our stay

Review 134:We arrived on a freezing cold day and the hotel was really warm and welcoming. There were six of us, each with separate rooms. Every room was clean with crisp white sheets on the bed and plenty of fluffy white towels in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and efficient. We ate in the restaurant in the evening - the food was excellent value for money and the full English breakfast in the morning was excellent too. The location is great, being walking distance into the village, and also being in the heart of the New Forest. We had such a relaxing time at the Burley Manor that we will be returning soon.

Review 135:Some corridor carpets need replacement.

Review 136:All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. A lovely setting to spend a weekend. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

Review 137:The third bed in the room plus all the curtains didn't close properly so lights from outside were streaming across the room all through the night!

Review 138:It was warm and cosy

Review 139:Staff badly trained, gave false information regarding facilities, as we were told no room service available, only to be told the day we left this should not have been the case ! Room was not clean and furniture in poor condition, desk serving as dressing table not put together properly, settee was shredded on the arms and carpets were stained and dirty charged £75 extra claiming we had smoked in the room and told we had to pay this and take it up with the manager by phone as he was not available the day we checked out ! Would never use again as felt completely ripped off.

Review 140:Only thing to like was the location

Review 141:No lift to the second floor, and we were not asked if we needed assistance with our luggage. (Both OAP). Noisy macerator in the bathroom. Only 2 beers on tap in the bar.

Review 142:Good food; really comfortable bed; friendly staff; good location; cleanliness of room and hotel in general
