Reviews for The White Buck

Review 1:Sorry... couldn't come up with anything.

Review 2:We had the Conqueror room.... Wow! The round bath was amazing. With a great restaurant, roaring fires and a delightful setting this was a perfect get away!

Review 3:Beautiful location, superb rooms, lovely country style hotel, spotlessly clean, excellent staff, great selection of food and drink with reasonable prices.

Review 4:What a shame we were asked to vacate the Gun Room at 10. 30pm ,leaving us to retire to bed. As there were five of us celebrating my 70 th birthday it brought a sharp end to our day. This was disappointing.

Review 5:The venue was lovely and the room for our short stay was good. However if we were staying longer the lack of a wardrobe or place to leave a case would have been a definite disadvantage. Our meal was very good and all five of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Breakfast was also very good.

Review 6:The staff were not very attentive snd we did feel less than important. The food was good in the evening but the breakfast was very poor.

Review 7:The accomadationa and facilities were great

Review 8:Not easy to reach. We payed £42 from waterloo london to brockenhurst and £17 from brockenhurst train station to the hotel.

Review 9:Perfect place for a weekend escape from london. Nature is awesome. Stay here

Review 10:The genuine warm welcome given to everyone, from builder to business man, from dogs to dining couples was truly amazing. A first class restaurant serving excellent food. The attention to detail in the bedrooms made everyone feel like royalty during our stay. Fantastic experience.

Review 11:Beautiful location in New Forest, tasty unpretentious food, great breakfast. Rooms are luxurious with particularly nice bathrooms.Feel is of upmarket unstuffy country hotel with leather chairs, fur, log fires and squishy sofas. All this and excellent value for money!

Review 12:The cost of the food was pricey but that's not uncommon anymore! The food itself was enjoyable

Review 13:Superb location in the heart of the New Forest. Lovely staff, we travelled with our dog who was welcomed as one of the family. Our dog friendly room was spacious and comfortable with dog treats thrown in! Dogs were welcome everywhere except the main resterant however they could sit with you in the bar areas where food was available. The decor was inspiring and the 'gun room' with its roaring open fire was a real treat! Looking to return for a longer stay in the spring!!

Review 14:Our "double-bed" was actually two singles pushed together...

Review 15:Beautiful building and fantastic food; the staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar area with an open fire was like a charming living room. The location is excellent as it captures the wild nature of being in the New Forest whilst still being close enough to all the major sights. Our room was upgraded, which was great.

Review 16:Dinner service was a little slow - no biggy!

Review 17:Fantastic hotel. Superb pub. Great restaurant. Wonderful location. We've stayed a few times and have already booked to go back in the new year. Highly recommended.

Review 18:I really enjoyed our stay at the buck, the accommodation was wonderful and in a beautiful setting. Staff were very helpful and accommodated our requests.

Review 19:I had to make an effort to find reception staff on arrival. I was also served a bottle of wine that was not opened in front of me at our dinner table. At a decent restaurant that is totally unacceptable!

Review 20:Pleasant stay, all staff friendly, and a very comfortable bed.

Review 21:I can honestly say not a thing.

Review 22:The idyllic location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. You felt like you were transported back in time

Review 23:Layout of toilet in room - a glass door exposing anyone using the loo???? No where to put anything, clothes to be hung on hooks and the room felt cluttered as a result.

Review 24:Nice character and location

Review 25:As it was half term rather a lot of young families and some rather large dogs.

Review 26:The location and the ambience of the rooms all very nice and a very comfortable bed.

Review 27:As in common with all hotel facilities the basket of bar/savoury bits was set at a price that made them only desirable in a total emergency, like a nuclear war!!!

Review 28:Closeness to the forest and Burley, very comfortable bed, clean smart room and bathroom.

Review 29:Very comfortable, friendly place to stay with excellent location in the forest, a short walk from a village. We loved the indulgence room and also food and general ambience. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 30:Initial contact on the phone was dealt with rather abruptly by member of staff at the hotel- however I decided to pursue the booking and we are pleased we did because we had an excellent stay. For a superior room -there was only one chair and no bath??

Review 31:Made to feel welcome by the staff we met and enjoyed the general ambiance of the hotel and its location. The dining room and food -excellent.

Review 32:A lovely place for a country break in large grounds with beautiful scenary and pleasant walks around it. Very comfortable beds and well heated in the winter. Good restaurant and comfortable bar area.

Review 33:View from chestnut and couldn't open the windows wide.

Review 34:Location, gun room, log fire, London Pride, food, relaxed efficiency of staff and the gardens.

Review 35:We had a mid priced room but it was on the second floor and had a lot of sloping ceilings. I had to bend right over to get in and out of my side of the bed and was constantly aware in other parts of the room that I had to be careful not to bump my head. The staffing level was quite low for a busy weekend and check in was slow and they thought we hadn't paid for breakfast when we had. Generally for the price (£160 for one night b &b ) I thought it was expensive a bit below the standard I would expect.

Review 36:I liked the setting. The room decor was good and the shower room was very nice and large .The food was good.

Review 37:Booked a double room, upgraded,as partner tall. Room nice. However did not sleep. The bed was 2 twin single beds velcro'd together with a mattress topper. I kept rolling into the gap!!! Thus impossible to get a good nights sleep. A double room should have a double bed !!! Not two singles joined together. Shame as the room , needing all good quality.

Review 38:Lovely location, homely and comfortable surroundings.

Review 39:The shutters right above our bed let in the light no matter what you did. Need black out curtains. Was woken up very early.

Review 40:It was a great setting and close to Burley. Beautifully decorated and with lots of lovely touches. Beds incredibly comfortable. High standard throughout. Food was good but not exceptional. Staff excellent and very friendly and efficient.

Review 41:We were staying at the hotel for a family gathering and were pleased that we were given a private room for dinner and that the hotel accommodation and facilities catered fro our young grandchildren.

Review 42:Ensuite wet room not to our taste though perfectly functional. Our pre-ordered morning paper was hard to track down!

Review 43:Superbly comfortable bed and plenty of space. Ambience of public areas was excellent. Sylvan location perfect for a romantic getaway.

Review 44:Beautiful period house, delightfully renovated into a boutique hotel with wonderful rooms and installations. Comfortable and clean, and a very generous breakfast.

Review 45:Unfortunately the room above us had whining kids who started running across the floor at 6am. If it wasn't for that it was a perfect stay.

Review 46:Really nicely presented hotel with comfortable bed and friendly staff. Great location for hiking etc, and decent restaurant too

Review 47:The lady who booked us in was so unhelpful. We were early, but she said she would get housekeeping to hurry up a room for us. We waited two hours, and then she booked in other people just arrived, leaving us until I reminded her of our presence. We could have gone into the village, or for a walk for those two hours, rather than be left waiting. There was no apology, just a comment that our room was now ready. The man who booked us out was very nice. We would have enjoyed our stay more had he booked us in.

Review 48:The old world charm of the White Buck Inn. The snug in particular was gorgeous with the ambiance of a country manor house.

Review 49:Having to go home

Review 50:Room had a wonderful unique cosy feel with a lovely Boutique hotel class and charm. Staff were lovely and always very helpful. The food in the restaurant far exceeded our expectations with great choice, wonderful flavours and quality ingredients. We look forward to coming back and would highly recommend to all our friends.

Review 51:See through misty glass bathroom door directly in front of the toilet.

Review 52:Being able to take our very nervous timid dog who found the whole experience lovely. Will return again maybe for a longer stay.

Review 53:It was a disappointing stay, the room I dreamed of the shower was broken and the manager for that day wasn't that helpful made us move to another room said she would take our breakfast off the bill and that the room we were in needed to be accessible to maintenance, instead they put another couple in it, didn't take the food off the bill and a firealarm went off at 4 in the morning on the second night which was the final straw. The male manager who took payment for our bill rectified some of the bill problems and was understanding and gave us extra money off, overall the service was disappointing and not what I expected for the amount of money I was paying and the beautiful decor and location of the hotel!

Review 54:The rooms are gorgeous and the location and food are fantastic

Review 55:Our particular room was in the roof area and on the small side basically because we were the last booking in. Sometimes without thinking you could give your head a great big bump!

Review 56:An attractive convenient location ,the food was interesting and well presented.

Review 57:Everything was perfect from the minute we arrived. Fantastic looking room with very comfy bed. Staff were very helpful and the food was excellent too. Highly recommended

Review 58:2 bathroom doors which had a gap right down the middle and virtually see through glass the entire length so there was no privacy whatsoever. Awful. The breakfast should have also been included in the price of the room.

Review 59:The location was excellent

Review 60:Last to check in so given room 'Heather' with a view of the extraction fans above the kitchen. No big problem just unlucky with the room.

Review 61:Very comfortable bed and great breakfast in a lovely building.

Review 62:As the room was so good for relaxing in, it would have been nice to have a bath as well as shower. Wifi was frustrating at times. But those are very minor points!

Review 63:Staff, location, room, bed, food downstairs (make sure you eat there), cleanliness, ice machine, TV, staff. Staff.

Review 64:Very slow internet

Review 65:Friendly staff, Very helpful and informative. In particular the barman had extensive knowledge on all the alcohol offered. The cleanliness was up to a high standard and food was excellent

Review 66:Frosted glass bathroom doors with substantial gap offered little privacy and no storage space for toiletries in the bathroom

Review 67:Great staff very friendly. Lovely location

Review 68:Thought stay was very expensive for what was provided. Whilst bed was comfortable room was quite small and bathroom basic for what was described as an indulgence room. Was surprised that we had to pay for bottled water - this is usually complimentary. What were the 'many extras'?

Review 69:Location was lovely, hotel very attractive and staff friendly and helpful. Bed comfy and food good.

Review 70:Found a used condom in the tea tray! Complaint of this not taken seriously - made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room. view from room disappointing.

Review 71:good location

Review 72:Room got very hot and we were unable to cool it as much as we liked. 3 out of 4 times poached eggs were overdone. A little more attention to things like this would take it from good food to great food.

Review 73:Lovely pub, good food, very courteous staff

Review 74:Room was a little small, (in fairness it is advertised as 'cosy' on the property's own website, but not on Booking.com). Breakfast not included.

Review 75:The building and decor plus location was excellent. Evening meal was outstanding. Bed was very comfortable and bathroom was finished to a high standard.

Review 76:The glass door to the bathroom, which is completely see-through. No privacy.

Review 77:Everything (except glass door to bathroom!). Wonderful food. A delightful stay in a wonderful venue.

Review 78:Rufus room was great although it was a little noisy last thing at night and first thing in the morning with hotel staff / deliveries.

Review 79:Great location and safe /secure outdoor play area for young children.

Review 80:Great position of hotel, large carpark, very comfortable rooms. We stayed in the disabled room on ground floor and it seemed to cater very well for anyone in a wheelchair. Very quiet at night. Excellent breakfast. Lovely bar.

Review 81:To use the enormous bath in the bedroom the central heating would need to be on maximum for several hours to make the room warm enough! Bed side lights poor

Review 82:Friendly staff. Quiet location. Good food

Review 83:They don't sell Sothern Comfort (the only spirt I drink). And their rules are, they're not allowed to buy a bottle. Was a bit disappointed

Review 84:Beautiful room. One of the most cofortable beds we've slept in.

Review 85:Nothing!

Review 86:We had our small baby with us and the staff were very accommodating and looked after U.S. Beautifully. The food was superb and it is a lovely location.

Review 87:Nothing

Review 88:It was actually our daughter and her partner who stayed here and she said it is a fabulous hotel with delightful, friendly and helpful staff. The bed was so comfortable she had the best night's sleep for a long time. Later I asked kind Amy on Reception for the make of the extremely comfortable mattress and she took the trouble to find out for me. We look forward to staying ourselves.

Review 89:Friendly, polite, helpful staff. Excellent location in New Forest close to Burley and central to other places. Great food! Tasteful decor but welcoming & relaxing.

Review 90:Lovely staff, very friendly to pets (we have a 4 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback) and the food, alcohol selection and atmosphere are all 5 star. Very down to earth feel to the place which makes you feel like you're sitting in your own home when relaxing in the bar. We'll be back.

Review 91:A couple of small negatives: Slippery floor in the shower. Lack of modestly priced wines on the wine list.

Review 92:The building must originally have been a lovely country house and it has been sympathetically and attractively converted and decorated. In particular, we had a very comfortable room, enjoyed the staircase (you will understand if you visit) and also thought that the restaurant area was well conceived.

Review 93:A hair was in my wife's evening meal. Staff were very good about it but it did dampen the evening meal experience.

Review 94:Room was lovely and was very clean and well furnished. Breakfast was excellent too and the children were well catered for.

Review 95:Dreadful wifi, although free could not pick it up anywhere. Breakfast poor complained but were not offered a refund or discount.

Review 96:It's location, lovely bedroom, bar and garden areas. Very tastefully decorated.

Review 97:The housekeeping forgot a bath mat for the shower and milk for tea in the morning.

Review 98:Almost everything from the friendly staff, the comfortable interior, lovely outdoor area and welcoming rooms not to mention the delicious dinner and a feast of a breakfast.

Review 99:I don't think I have ever been to a place that exceeded my expectations on every level. There was an error through booking.com which meant we didn't have space for our 2 young kids, but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The service were great, the rooms lovely and the food incredible. Thanks for a great experience, we are sure to return.

Review 100:Found the matress topper a bit hot.

Review 101:Great menu and specials in lovely dining area. Reasonably priced wine list and huge variety of other drinks. Lovely non smoking patio for a restorative cup of tea and home made shortbread!

Review 102:No hot water on our last morning to have a shower although the staff explained that they had a problem with the boiler which had never been experienced before

Review 103:Location

Review 104:They left the window open until we checked in and there was some smell from the kitchen

Review 105:It was beautiful. The room was rather small but it wasn't a problem. Nice bathroom. Everything clean and tidy. Great restaurant and outside garden though small menu on a Sunday evening due to understaff.

Review 106:The food could have been better unfortunately. I had to send one meal back but it was at least replaced very quickly.

Review 107:The hotel is in great condition and has plenty of outdoor seating and garden space. The room was lovely and the staff were helpful and attentive.

Review 108:The grounds were lovely. Plenty of room to sit outside and enjoy the pleasant weather and 5 mins drive from Burley. The room was very light and airy and very tastefully decorated. The bed was very comfortable. Liked the fresh milk in the flask. No fridge, but they have an ice bucket and access to ice machine to keep drinks chilled. Offered good vegetarian option for breakfast as well as an extensive range of fruits, yoghurts etc

Review 109:Location is First Class, Staff exceptional, Food is just perfect along with choices, Great Bar fantastic atmosphere, Rooms are Sumptuous, every detail is catered for, The outside space is a Joy to use, all in all Just perfect, I will use again, in fact this is my second stay, Highly recommend.

Review 110:Disappointing dinner in the restaurant and not the greatest service. We wouldn't choose to eat there again. Breakfast was great though.

Review 111:The bed was beautifully comfortable and the location perfect and peaceful.

Review 112:Unfortunately the Comort rooms weren't available when I booked and I found the Cosy rooms a bit too cosy. If you like a bit of space opt for the Comfort rooms if available.

Review 113:As always, very pleasant experience. Staff very friendly, helpful, food - good. Would recommend without any hesitation.

Review 114:Everything was great, except the length of my stay! Would be keen to return, the showers were excellent, (yes, two shower heads in my room), staff really friendly, lots of books to flick through and read, and lovely design.

Review 115:My only disappointment was that although I had informed when booking that we were celebrating a 50th birthday the staff didn't go the extra mile with a complimentary gift/drink to enhance the celebration. Which we have experienced in other venues.

Review 116:The accommodation was excellent. We had booked three rooms and each of them was beautiful, elegant and well equipped. We had an evening meal and breakfast and both were very good. The restaurant is very popular so I would recommend that you reserve a table. The location is excellent and we found Burley to be a beautiful place to visit. We would love to stay here again.

Review 117:I would have liked there to be more choice on the restaurant evening menu.

Review 118:We were given an upgrade on our room which was really lovely. The breakfast was amazing, lots of choice and cooked to perfection.

Review 119:We loved everything about this place

Review 120:This place is seriously luxury! So many beautiful little touches and finishes around the room. The grounds are lovely so give a nice view from the rooms. Restaurant was excellent!! Much bigger meals than I thought. All of the rooms are different we had rooms 3 and 14. Some of the rooms didn't quite look as nice as ours especially room 13 which is quite small.

Review 121:Thought breakfast was a bit expensive so unfortunately didn't try it. Although if it's anything like their evening meals, it probably would've been fantastic!

Review 122:Beautifully decorated room with a spacious shower room. Great having a restaurant downstairs that serves excellent food and drinks. And the hamper in the room is a wonderful touch! Everything has had some thought behind it.

Review 123:At more than £190 a couple b&b -- for not even the best rooms -- it's expensive. And despite that price, only a shower in the room. Very nice shower it must be said. £190 is more like a dinner + b&b rate. Nevertheless would stay again.

Review 124:Location, ambience, very comfortable bed, delicious breakfast.

Review 125:The ice machine outside the room was working overtime on our last night and ice kept dropping every 20 minutes or so. The breakfasts were disappointing, under cooked poached eggs and porridge so thick you could almost cut it! Over priced too.

Review 126:The room was excellent, clean with a very comfortable bed. Free wifi. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 127:We spent 3 nights here and it was fantastic. The staff at all times were always pleasant and helpful. The restaurant meals were excellent and good value as was breakfast. The room was spacious, with a very large comfortable bed and very quiet. A nice touch is fresh milk in the room. Parking is excellent. There are lovely well kept gardens to sit in, or a nice terrace. We would certainly stay again.

Review 128:breakfast could have been better for the price paid . very popular venue for non residents might be a bit crowded at times

Review 129:room comfortable, restaurant excellent for evening meal

Review 130:We booked a superior room - this turned out to be very small and dark, overlooking the extractor fans with a very small and poorly equiped bathroom. If you do book, request not to be placed in a room called Heather The staff were unhelpful - on asking advice for an evening walk, we were given a selection of maps which turned out to be bike routes, the shortest being 3 hours long!

Review 131:THe shortbread and the bed

Review 132:The bathroom didn't have full window blinds and the room became very bright in the early morning. I could hear the room upstairs so clearly it was as if they were in the room with me. There was no fridge in the room and the coffee provided was only instant. I was also disappointed to pay extra for breakfast.

Review 133:We had a large stylish room, and a huge comfy bed.
