Reviews for The Bristol Hotel

Review 1:No complaints!

Review 2:Great location. A short walk from Cabots Circus, but alongside the harbour which was pleasant to stroll around. Many places to eat around the harbour if you do not want to say in the hotel. The hotel was lovely with a nice atmosphere. The foyer was elegant and inviting. Reception staff were welcoming and helpful. The lifts were clean and bright; nothing was shabby. The room was large and well laid out with a comfy chair and a also a desk and chair. It was immaculately clean and smelled lovely! The bed was big and comfortable. The bathroom was a little tight if anything, and no where to hang the hand towel, and the wardrobe was also smallish (but not a real issue) Triple glazing meant that noise was negligible. Also the parking was a real asset. With direct access from each floor and a flat £5 fee it was a real plus point. We had good deal on the price which was excellent value and if we went to Bristol again would stay here.

Review 3:We did not have our room cleaned during a 2 night stay. We put a clean my room sign on the door and went out for 4-5 hours. The cleaner did leave a clean towel and smellies in a laundry bag outside the door as we were having a late pm nap. Also only 1 towel for 2 people? The hotel did not seem very busy during our stay.

Review 4:The location was great and staff very friendly.

Review 5:Great location in the very middle of Bristol - street and waterfront path access with adjoining car park. Good quality breakfast. Slightly small bathroom but very comfortable bed and plenty of space in the room.

Review 6:Hotel like a ghost town yet we were not given a waterside room.Room was cold with no means of heating it.We were then given an electric radiator. No fridge, tiny bathroom without a full size bath. This was supposedly a Superior room, I don't believe you can have worse rooms. The view out of the window was so bad friends described it as looking like a slum.

Review 7:Staff and location.Service by all staff was very good as expected. The location was very good and as expected. Bristol was very nice and we intend to visit again as there was so much we couldn't fit in.Cinnamon whirls almost floated into the coffee lounge.

Review 8:The outside of the hotel doesn't sell it brilliantly as the building is dated and the top floor spreads over a multi-story car park but once inside its a really nice spacious hotel.

Review 9:The staff are very friendly, helpful, and pay attention to the little details. Our room was lovely, quiet and big enough to spend time in. The location is excellent - right near the creative quarter and some good restaurants.

Review 10:Terrible room layout!!! Why do hotels put glass panels on the bathroom door right in your eyeline from the bed? Most people choose for the bathroom not to be a communal experience!!! The tv however was so far away from the bed you needed binoculars to spot it... Lots of wasted space resulting in a really cramped bathroom and huge empty space by the desk - which had no overhead lighting near it. Nice looking hotel but a triumph of form over substance...shame!

Review 11:Location is amazing and excellent cotton bed linen. Lovely bar.

Review 12:No air conditioning, very small room, very small bed (standard double), no minibar or fridge in room, toilet door would not open or close unless force was used, blood stains on the toilet wall, no soap dish.

Review 13:Location Free car parking

Review 14:The location of the Bristol Hotel is excellent, just a few minutes walk from the centre of the city. Very handy to have the car parked free of charge just next door.

Review 15:Room small; especially bathroom; design of fixtures bad, as too many sharp edges

Review 16:the waterfront nearby is great; walk to the shops is doable. Car Parking is the easiest and best that we could find, and is free

Review 17:Having to leave to go home

Review 18:We just feel that the Bristol Hotel is perfect in every way. We love going to Bristol especially the Harbourside area... great pubs , restaurants and entertainment. The Bristol Hotel is in the perfect location and we will continue to stay there everytime we visit Bristol. Our last visit was even more special as we celebrated my 50th Birthday and was pleasantly surprised with the lovely treats we had in our room on arrival... Thank you Bristol Hotel... And see you again very soon

Review 19:Cold breakfast items on last day, didnt have time to faff about if they wanted to replace items, it is a good cooked breakfast though and I hope this was just my timing, everyone else seemed to be tucking in.

Review 20:Cleanliness and staff, location to waterside. Little touches bed turned down, chocolate on pillow, dressing gown nice toiletries.

Review 21:Walls slightly thin so could hear TV from next door. Bathroom small especially the space around the loo which is very cramped!

Review 22:Good location close to variety of restaurants. Ample free parking. Good selection at breakfast.

Review 23:Shower a little small for taller guests!

Review 24:Great location and good quality hotel at an excellent price for a weekend stay - just what we wanted. Even got us a room with a waterside view on request!

Review 25:The room was ok, the walls were paper thin and we could hear people in the bathroom next door. The doors in the corridor kept banging up until midnight. There was a gig also going on near by which was really loud and we felt like we were actually there! The bathroom wasn't very clean either and I think the toilet seat was filthy and needed to be replaced. Not great.

Review 26:The staff were great. The location was good for the conference we were going to. Didn't have breakfast there so can't comment on that.

Review 27:Nothing !!

Review 28:Loved our stay - they made us feel most welcome. We were given complimentary drinks vouchers upon arrival and breakfast vouchers which was so kind.

Review 29:The sound of the night life on the other side of the small bay on Fridays and Saturdays do not permit you to open the window. It is simply too loud. The hotel offers the business forums and wedding services and the drunken guests' behaviour and its quantity may not be pleasant enough for private guests.

Review 30:We liked the location a lot from the very beginning. It faces the small bay and overlooks the chain of small pubs and restaurants on the other side. You may reach nearly every city attraction on foot in less than 20 minutes. The food is very good and not overpriced as it sometimes happens in hotels. The staff is friendly and able. The rooms are nice and clean and have got everything a traveller needs.

Review 31:None

Review 32:Friendly staff wonderful buffet breakfast. Welcome cold water with lemon, hot chocolate at the lobby. Lovely views over the Avon river. Very central. Free car parking

Review 33:Breakfast was not included in the room rate.

Review 34:Brilliant location for the SS Great Britain, the Matthew and the M Shed museum. 6th floor room overlooking waterfront with great views.Easy, convenient parking right next door. Friendly, helpful staff, lovely decor and comfortable bed with luxurious sheets.

Review 35:Rooms can be very small if you don't upgrade(which is on 6th floor)as it is an extension. Must have harbour view if a leisure visit

Review 36:Parking made easy and free. Location by water and restaurants lovely.

Review 37:Rooms could do with better sound insulation.

Review 38:Very helpful and pleasant staff. One of our party has mobility issues and The Bristol could not have done more to make things easy. Very good restaurant.

Review 39:Room was quite small considering it was described as a superior double. It was a lot of money for the size of it. Lacks gym or spa facilities.

Review 40:Excellent location, couldn't hear any noise from the local bars. Dinner and breakfast were amazing at the hotel restaurant. The maître'de was incredibly helpful in advising us on where to go for a night out. Really friendly. Shower in the room was brilliant.

Review 41:Perhaps lighting is a little subdued

Review 42:This was an excellent experience with friendly and courteous staff. Excellent food and lovely lounges and dining area.

Review 43:Queuing for breakfast on one of the mornings. There didn't seem to be enough tables to accomodate all the guests who turned up at around 9.45 am. One of the 2 lifts was out of action for a couple of hours when we were staying

Review 44:All the staff were very courteous and made us feel very welcome Had a problem with shower which was swiftly sorted Loved the location - Would stay here again

Review 45:There's a bit of a lack of cupboard space and nowhere to store suitcases easily, even in big rooms

Review 46:It's cheery, welcoming, clean and very conveniently sited on the water's edge.

Review 47:a cheap room in a 4* hotel gets you a tiny room at the bottom of a light well with a view of a gigantic aircon unit. and the bed was tiny I'm 5'6" and my feet hung off the end. my daighter is 5' and even she said the bed was too small. it confuses me how it was a 4*

Review 48:The staff were lovely. the location was great,

Review 49:The noise from the night club across the water. Ruined two nights sleep out of three. How can hotels at airports stop the noise but The Bristol hotel couldnt.

Review 50:Good situation for visiting the harbourside and SS great Britain.

Review 51:Only thing was when I booked pictures of superior room were misleading as it looked like there was a sitting room also but this is only the suites. However that was how it was advertised with Booking and not the hotel

Review 52:Hotel was amazing in an amazing location. Everything was what you would expect from a high quality hotel. Free parking particularly was helpful

Review 53:Location was excellent. The room was very well appointed with coffee machine and kettle and very good toiletries. Comfortable bed. We liked the free parking which extended both sides of the check-in and check-out times.

Review 54:The hotel is in a great location within walking distance of bars and restaurants so perfect for a night out. The room was lovely with a great view. I asked when I booked to arrange a bottle of champagne for my other halves birthday and they had it all ready when we arrived :)

Review 55:The staff at reception need to be more friendly they are so serious looking lighten up abit and look as if they enjoy meeting customers

Review 56:Staff at restaurant

Review 57:The early morning knock up from housekeeping which wasnt requested or appreciated

Review 58:Fantastic room with a beautiful view of the harbourside... You must request a high floor room to benefit from this...... also the extra benefit of free ncp parking which no other hotel offers

Review 59:Bath hadn't been cleaned, rest of room very clean though.

Review 60:Staff were very nice and accommodating, great location, well equipped room, had a lovely time.

Review 61:The only thing i was unhappy about was having to leave!

Review 62:superb location, superb staff, superb room with fantastic views, lovely decor and quality bedding, small touches like a decent expresso machine ,lovely bar downstairs lovely views of the harbour great music superb setting! Already looking to book again for wedding anniversary...

Review 63:Slow check in and out with unnecessarily convoluted £40 credit card pre authoritisation. Smallest toilet space ever in bathroom 508

Review 64:Central location. Car parking included

Review 65:The bed was slightly too hard for us but it wouldn't deter us from staying again

Review 66:Excellent location. We asked for a quiet room and were given a room overlooking the interior of the hotel- we didn't hear a sound all night! the free parking next to the hotel is a bonus.

Review 67:The rooms lack any distinction look a little dated and even though we had a deluxe room it felt a little too small old bath with cladding around it didn't disguise the fact that it's an old bath / room just felt a little dated in fact the corridors looked better! Our view was truely awful - we overlooked a grey corrogated box on the roof blocking the city scape we were moved but you need to disguise or tidy that roof area it really isn't acceptable for around 200 per night we could have stayed at hotel du vin or Brooke's in much classier stylish surroundings

Review 68:Location couldn't be better

Review 69:That is was located near the University of Bristol and City centre. The staff was very pleasent and helpfull. They were able to answer all my questions and if they were not certain at the time before the day was over I would received all the information I required.

Review 70:We ordered a superior room because we wanted a tiny bit more space. Not so! The bed was just too small and soft.

Review 71:The location, ease of parking and central spaces

Review 72:The very small bathroom and the way it had been planned didn't make sense. Door should open outwards.

Review 73:Very good location, car parking facilities a boon and rare in Bristol. Room service good.

Review 74:- breakfast wasn't include and was pricey - room felt small

Review 75:- very quiet - harbour view room - comfortable bed - free wifi with easy login system - toiletries included conditioner!

Review 76:Was shocked to hear that £170.00 for one night did not include breakfast for a very average room and no view.

Review 77:Lovely location although a bit noisy at night.

Review 78:Breakfast service first morning.

Review 79:Great location. Very comfortable bed and good large bath towels. Breakfast good although staff struggled to cope with number of guests.

Review 80:noise was the main problem, a wedding disco made the whole building reverberate until 1am when mercifully it stopped. The walls seem to be quite thin because I was aware of the noise from people talking, shouting, doors banging etc and (I am not a light sleeper at all)

Review 81:staff were extremely friendly and helpful especially the managers at breakfast; Wozzeck and Ben and Raquel on reception.

Review 82:The service in the restaurant was very slow. I think it was the kitchen who held things up. Whilst only one of our party had a starter, the rest of us were waiting for an hour for our main course

Review 83:Excellent reception staff.

Review 84:Room towards road side is a bit noisy late night as drunk people singing outside if leave the window open.

Review 85:Along the harbourside. Walking distance to a few interesting sites.

Review 86:I think for this standard of hotel and room there should be a fridge in the room. Having stayed for a few years the decor is looking a little tired. When we booked it stated we would have a superior room but it was the same as a standard room we had last year. Time we had a reward as loyal customers!

Review 87:Lovely helpful staff!

Review 88:1. The generally dark and very brown decor of the corridor & foyer 2.The experience was really marred by the atmosphere and customer behaviour in the bar. We sat while a near fight followed half-an-hour of loud, aggressive shouting. Eventually I told the barman that I didn't feel this was what we would expect in the hotel, and could staff not intervene? Finally, the people concened were asked to quieten down or leave. Shortly after, we enjoyed a very loud young lady shouting repeatedly about needing "F*****g Girl Time!!" Again, no intervention was made. It was generally a very loud space, and not at all like a hotel bar.

Review 89:Quality of furniture and fittings in room; restaurant; lifts; reception staff

Review 90:Bit unorganised when booking in had to wait for room to be ready. WhenI first went into the hotel to ask about parking the lobby was fullwith only one reception having to deal with everyone I had a few rudepeople push infront of me (obviously not the hotels fault) but ended upasking another guest who told me how the parking worked. Found itbizarre that the bathroom taps are on the wrong way round and aparentlylike this in every room. Lastly have never stayed in a hotel where theyhold money in your account incase anything happens in the room for ahotel as big and as nice as this one I dont see that to be necessary ifpeople are on a budget its not very helpful luckily we were not butthat would be one reason we wouldnt stay again. Should maybe state thaton all bookings aswell

Review 91:Stunning hotel, bed is very comfy and nice little touches in the room ofwater, chocolates etc. very quiet at night and nice view from top floor.Excellent location

Review 92:See above the Sunday lunch!

Review 93:Staff, room, breakfast all good but Sunday lunch was not good! Very slow service for starters & no choice of meat only beef left!!! Poor choice of deserts as nothing much left!

Review 94:The staff are well trained helpful and friendly, the room is neat and the bed is so comfy. The breakfast presentation is nice with freshly feel and obviously its good to start you day in a venue overlooking the harbor side. I strongly recommend this hotel

Review 95:Location, quality of facilities, nice extrasa such as slippers, bathrobes and decent quality toiletries. Free parking on site in City Centre on site is a big plus. Wi Fi Good. Staff (Especially Elizabeth on reception) brilliant.

Review 96:Our room seemed to be near a nightclub or something and the music was very loud and the bass kept us awake.

Review 97:Nicely decorated rooms, comfy need and good value for money.

Review 98:I was initally put into a room which could be interlinked with another. The walls were paper thin and I could hear everthing happening in the room next door as if i was in there. The receptionist was very helpful in moving me to another room.

Review 99:Overall very good.

Review 100:There is not air con in the rooms just a small table fan & even though it is a very nice hotel it is still very noisy at weekends

Review 101:Gorgeous hotel, very chic decore. Not far from temple meads station. I ordered room service and the food was lovely, have the peanut butter sundae it's a must!

Review 102:Our superior double room (651) was rather cramped for two people. It was on the street side so there was quite a lot of noise late at night and in the early morning.

Review 103:The staff in all areas were very friendly and helpful and made our stay very pleasant. Free parking in the NCP car park next door was a big bonus, we left the car there for two days and explored everywhere on foot - the hotel is in a great location for doing this.

Review 104:None!

Review 105:When I told them it was my birthday I had a free bedroom upgrade, free cocktails and a reduced rate breakfast! We adore this hotel and have been there several times in the last few years. A special mention to Elizabeth who made our stay so special!!

Review 106:The walls are very poorly sound-proofed. I could hear the guy in the room next door snoring all night and then every word of the telephone conversation he had in the morning. Bed was a very small double, I'm not tall and my feet were near to the end of the bed and the mattress dipped in the middle. It was very disappointing when compared to more budget hotel's that I have stayed in like the Holiday Inn Express or Travelodge. Long queue to check out in the morning.

Review 107:Location was good for restaurants and shopping. Bathroom and toiletries were lovely. Decor of the room was tasteful and fresh. Free parking was brilliant.

Review 108:I ordered a beef chili from the room service menu. However, after it was delivered, I accidentally knocked it and it was spilled all over the carpet. Due to the staff being unable to clean away the stain, I was charged a 100 pounds as they claimed that "they need to call professionals down to clean it up".

Review 109:The hotel is situated at a good location, it is just minutes walk to Chinese restaurants which we frequent, and there are things to do right at the back of the hotel. Examples are the Bristol Aquarium and taking a boat at the river.

Review 110:Disappointing evening meal in the restaurant - slow service and meagre portions. The manager offered us a complimentary drink, but nonetheless the evening was a bit of a disappointment overall.

Review 111:Location on the harbour front and the breakfast was everything you could ask for from variety, to high standard of food and excellent staff. The ease of parking was a bonus too.

Review 112:The enormous bath sheets were luxurious - but very heavy to handle, especially when wet! I kept forgetting to ask if smaller bath towels were available on request for weaklings like me. Are they? Our room looked down into the central well - which was nice and quiet, as requested. But a bit of astroturf, some tubs with plastic bushes/flowers, and perhaps a couple of large mirrors as "ponds" to reflect the sky, would make a lovely little city centre "garden" to look down on. Worth a try?

Review 113:The lovely staff at Reception desk who had a helpful answer to every question. And, of course, the location.

Review 114:The air conditioning wasnt working properly in our room and it was very hot

Review 115:The location is fantastic, right in the centre of habourside but the hotel is so quiet

Review 116:Reception was choatic. I was told initially that I must have booked another hotel. Fortunately I had the confirmation with me and after considerable delay my booking was found. Arrived 1400hrs reached room 1530approx.

Review 117:The fitness suite is a few cardio machines and a mat, no weights and it's tiny.

Review 118:Great location for the waterfront, bars, real ale pubs and shops, a little pricey but car parking was included and it's a good quality hotel.

Review 119:Free parking facility next door to the hotel. Staff we're exceptionally helpful, polite and made out stay even more enjoyable. Rooms were spacious with great views of the harbour. Breakfast was delicious with again lovely views of the harbour. Central hotel close to many attractions in Bristol. Will only stay here again if visiting Bristol again. As a couple we have stayed in many hotels and are very fussy but the quality service and attention to detail by the staff made our stay extremely enjoyable.

Review 120:My room was facing the sidestreet which is evidently a favoured route for returning revellers from the city centre in the small hours so there was some noise from the street if you had the windows open.

Review 121:staff were very pleasant and professional and made a point of remembering your name and addressing you by it, which gave a personal touch

Review 122:The customer service at this hotel was exceptional. The location couldn't have been better, right in the heart of everything you want to do/see in Bristol.

Review 123:Tea at breakfast was terrible - just warm , not made with boiling water . I believe the coffee was much the same .

Review 124:Room over looked the water and was on the first floor . Nice , large bed , very comfortable and light bedclothes , much appreciated .

Review 125:Could if done with a slightly bigger room with more clothes storage as we were there for more than one night.

Review 126:Very friendly staff clean and pleasant atmosphere. Bar are very inviting.

Review 127:On departure checkout girl seemed tired very short when taking payment. As gentleman working next to her was chatty providing excellent service towards his customer. Not a very good lasting impression.

Review 128:Restaurant was lovely, staff knowledge good. Staff all smartly dressed. Greeting on arrival good.rooms quite.

Review 129:Room on the 4th floor on the street side, traffic noise meant the windows had to be kept closed all the time. The bathroom was far to small

Review 130:helpfulness of the staff

Review 131:The booking.com room description was wrong. Our room did not have asitting area and was tiny. The bed was very bouncy, and not greatfor 2 people.

Review 132:The staff was very courteous.

Review 133:We ordered room service and it never came as it was not entered into the system. By then it was too late for us. Also the newspaper didn't arrive at our room until we had had breakfast which was again too late to be of use.

Review 134:We liked the view of the harbour, the bed was comfortable and the restaurant for breakfast was in a lovely position.

Review 135:Professionalism of staff Room very clean, comfortable and facilities excellent Breakfast wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal on Sunday Location ideal, so central for all amenities

Review 136:Did not know the Bristol Festival was on. Total madness too many people

Review 137:Perfect location and a spotless hotel with very professional staff. Car parking is a dream

The Fine Print

Parking is available in the adjacent NCP car park for a fee of GBP 5 per night. Guests can drive into the car park taking the normal entrance ticket and then visit the hotel reception desk to purchase the exit parking ticket. Please note that extra beds are limited, and must be requested in advance.
