Reviews for Laura Ashley Hotel - The Belsfield
Review 1:Very warm in bedroom, swimming pool not great and a big disappointment that the kitchen was closed for refurbishment.
Review 2:The location was great with a fabulous view. Beautiful hotel overall and we shall return.
Review 3:The young lady on recepition could have smiled a bit more
Review 4:Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds & a very good location. Also the price we paid was very good because it was out of season & there was a kitchen refurb going on, however in season some of the prices (£200.00 plus) are way over the top.
Review 5:Beautiful hotel, luxury at its best, excellent service at all times from staff. Couldn't fault it, prime location. Beautifully classy and elegant. Definitely be back
Review 6:The hotel has been really well refurbished. The location is superb with lovely views over lake Windermere and has a good sized car park on site. A very relaxing stay.
Review 7:Unfortunately kitchens where not serving hot foods so just continental breakfast , although it was in small print at the bottom on the booking I didn't see it, I think it could of been made more clearly on booking
Review 8:Location
Review 9:Swimming pool locked at 8.40 (Should open at 8am) Attendant suggested I go all the way back to reception for a key ! So I suggested they did. Men's shower failed to get hot after 5mins so had to use ladies. No hot breakfast. They insisted this was on the website but sure I would have seen it if so. Received E mail about it after too late to cancel.
Review 10:Well appointed Some staff very pleasant and helpful.
Review 11:Kitchen closed for refurbishment. We weren't told on arrival that the kitchen was closed, it wasn't an issue in the evening because we were dining out, but to be told as we walking into breakfast wasn't acceptable, if we had known we would have stayed elsewhere.
Review 12:Hotel location, décor & staff, first class
Review 13:We came here for our honeymoon and it is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. It was taken over by Laura Ashley a year ago, and as a result the decor is stunning throughout. It has a perfect location perched atop a hill looking out over lake Windermere. Loved it and we will be back.
Review 14:There was nothing I didn't like at this hotel however the prices at the bar are steep but this is to be expected in the lakes I live locally and I'm used to the price range in the area.
Review 15:The hotel was beautiful through and through, most amazing location and interior was incredible! Will definitely stay again
Review 16:We could not use the pool as this was out of order due to a faulty pump, not told about this during check in.
Review 17:The comfort of the bedroom was excellent, very nice hotel.
Review 18:Nothing at all
Review 19:The whole experience from arrival to departure was excellant. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and always had time for a chat if the situation arose. Will be going back.
Review 20:Nothing to dislike.
Review 21:Exellent location with brilliant views of Lake Windermere. Very friendly & helpful staff. Gorgeous breakfast with plenty of options.
Review 22:internet connection in our room went off 1st day, never got it back, had requested selection of vegitarian food/menu ,basically had a choice of 1 dish, for a hotel in this price range that is very poor, noise from the staff outside in the early hours below our room, view of outbuildings and hotel across the road.
Review 23:The staff where pleasant and helpful
Review 24:We loved everything about this hotel. Firstly its in a great central location over looking Lake Windermere. The decor is lovely, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food in the restaurant was amazing. What more could you wish for.
Review 25:To many new staff with limited information on location of rooms, computer system breakdown. No coordination and still cleaning rooms at 2.30pm with a 3pm check in.
Review 26:Booked a standard room, including dinner. The hotel is impressive as soon as you arrive at the entrance. We were seen to straight away and received an upgrade to a lake view room which was wonderful. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds in a perfect location for walking around Bowness with excellent facilities. All staff were friendly and eager to look after you during your stay. Evening meal was in the bistro and wouldn't have been out of place in a high end restaurant, again excellent service. Didn't want to leave and wouldn't hesitate to recommend, will definitely be visiting again!
Review 27:Room too warm even with the window open. Window only opens approx 6 inches, obviously for safety reasons but is still a problem which needs sorting. Stayed before and food was good but this time it wasn't warm enough.
Review 28:Location, decor and staff
Review 29:No where in room to put make up on comfortably.Seat was too low /Mirror too high-had to stand up to see anything
Review 30:Fabulous interior and fantastic views
Review 31:Nothing really, inly negative was that the waitress at breakfast cleared our table away whilst we were at the hot buffet. We had to move from our table with the lovely view. She was very apologetic & brought us more tea & toast.
Review 32:A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The evening meal was excellent & the staff were friendly & helpful. The room and hotel are as stunning as the online photos. Bowness and Ambleside are lovely areas. Really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to visit again.
Review 33:Think the staff could be more friendly and interested in the client. The breakfast was help yourself but some of the food hadn't been topped up! Surely they should be topped up before the dishes were empty! Also very disappointed with the view from the window. Also as I didn't have on my glasses didn't see you have to ask for eggs to be fried or poached...If the waiter just mentioned it that would be helpful. Also thought the bar area looks very tacky and the drinks over priced!
Review 34:The location of the hotel is fabulous and the rooms decorated beautifully! The bed was very comfortable too!
Review 35:The restaurant could not provide the whole menu when we ordered dinner at 7.45. One starter, one main course and one dessert were not available.
Review 36:The grounds and the views are tremendous. The ambience is unique.
Review 37:The location of the Hotel is fantastic - we were in Room 26 and enjoyed uninterrupted views down Lake Windermere. The room itself was very comfortable, clean and decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Staff were excellent and were a credit to the Hotel and themselves. We would certainly visit the Hotel again.
Review 38:Room was a little small and stuffy unable to open window more than 4"swimming pool but no steam or sauna
Review 39:Wonderful position and lovely food in the evening, realy attentive staff
Review 40:Room at night was quite hot(i have hot flushes) air con was ok,but me personally would of liked to alter that accordingly.Bistro lovely, but access to garden from here..so there was a comstant stream of ppl(smokers) in and out whilst diners were trying to eat. They are my only 2 gripes.
Review 41:The hotel is beautiful seen the hotel many times it must of had millions spent on it.The decor is amazing, lounges all beautiful and big..views..well, picture postcard..staff all friendly, wish we'd of used the pool now..tranquil down there. We WILL be returning again.Ps..it was our anniversary and the card and chocs from hotel was a lovely suprise.
Review 42:Tradesmen still working in the hotel and staying in the rooms available to paying guests. Lots of noise from 7am onwards. Door slamming and people going up and down the stairs. Not what should be allowed in a more expensive and perceived higher quality hotel. We stayed the night of 22nd September 2015.
Review 43:Staff were attentive and polite.
Review 44:Booked for Family room for my little girl(expect to have bigger bed) but queen size bed and tiny weeny bathroom.another family room is as photos show in booking site but only this family room in Ground Floor is different size. Then why same rate?
Review 45:Stay family room and guess what? Bathroom is as tiny as a bathroom in train. Only one cafe overlooks lake but farbfrom peaceful due to cruise ticket office with loads of Chinese tourists bus.Yes!That is your view while you are javing a tea in terrace.
Review 46:The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Position was wonderful on the lake and walking distance to cruises. At breakfast, each person was treated as an individual by staff.
Review 47:Having to request a fried egg for my breakfast and it not turning up until I had finished
Review 48:Our room. The bathroom and shower were lovely. The lounge and bedroom were very comfortable and the view was amazing. Staff very helpful
Review 49:Only small niggles: very slow service from the kitchen with a long wait mid-dinner due to a large corporate event taking place. Breakfast was only average. None of this affected our overall enjoyment.
Review 50:We loved the elevated, central location; the fabulous old building; the extravagant decor and furnishings; the friendly and professional staff; the cleanliness and comfort of the public rooms and bedrooms.
Review 51:Extension section has thin walls and breakfast service was poor - had to keep chasing and order never arrived. Previous evening service had been excellent, so I think this was just the member of staff we had assigned for breakfast.
Review 52:Superb location, great views, excellent food.
Review 53:Was a bit concerned when staff member that checked us in was a bit unfriendly, but thankfully throughout rest of stay staff was wonderful.
Review 54:Bed and pillows AMAZING...had the best night's sleep! Beautiful location. Historical building with loads of character.
Review 55:Room was too hot and center light fitting in room was too low, if over 5ft 7" you would have a problem. However we were told not every room has a low light fitting and some rooms have air conditioning.
Review 56:Lovely setting and beautiful interior.
Review 57:There is no ref. when I ask a bed or any thing for my daughter (2 years) to sleep, they ask me to upgrade my room and pay extra money
Review 58:The location The view
Review 59:Very uncomfortable soft feather pillows (appreciate this is personal preference) and an abrupt, verging on rude assistant manager.
Review 60:Absolutely beautiful location with stunning view of Windermere. Lovely reception staff and brasserie and breakfast staff.
Review 61:The fact that we were unable to dine at the hotel, restaurant full and Brassiere not serving food after 6,45 due to restaurant being full. Unacceptable standard of service for 4 star hotel. Mentioned to reception who were totally uninterested.
Review 62:The hotel, setting and view.
Review 63:Parking problem. Limited choice in restaurant (5 course only). Limited availability in Brasserie. Most staff were friendly but not fully attentive or knowledgable.
Review 64:The towels were overused, no fridge, room service took a lot of time, no elevator in case u have a lot of luggage.
Review 65:The location was great, the design of the hotel was modern and comfy , the bed was comfortable, the staff were helpful, all facilities were near by.
Review 66:Nothing at all was fab!
Review 67:Paid extra for a lake view and it didn't disappoint was amazing and grounds were gorgeous too. Breakfast first class Highly recommend
Review 68:There were two receptionists, one of which was not welcoming, and seemed distant and disinterested. We had lunch in the brasserie, would not recommend this, food was poor over cooked and expensive. We asked for the check which did not appear until we asked again.
Review 69:We had room 35, very quiet, very clean and lovely bed. The hotel over looks the lake lovely views from breakfast room. Breakfast good. Housekeeping staff very helpful and breakfast staff very pleasant.
Review 70:customer service very poor, they run out of card keys so we got only one, breakfast very average (not enough choices), very soft bed/mattress too weak WiFi overall very poor value for money, (well too expensive)
Review 71:beautiful location and view
Review 72:the staff are not friendly the breakfast is poor only a few kaind of food i aet just bread & bater they charge for eggs!!!!
Review 73:exlant location fabulous view and great room they have wonderful garden on high land has leak view wifi good
Review 74:the prices here do not reflect the actual service you receive they have got this so wrong. There are no porters, there are no service staff with any service training or people skills surely this is the basic requirements of any hotel????
Review 75:the location is fantastic
Review 76:Our room was lovely with a beautiful view over windemere but on the night we stayed it was particularly humid and the room would benefit from air conditioning as the windows only open slightly for safety reasons.
Review 77:Fantastic location. The hotel was spotless and has obviously been up graded to a high standard.
Review 78:It's 2015 - duvets and pillows do not require down and feathers to give the appearance of luxury OR be comfortable! A hotel of this quality and reputation, in a location famous for its outstanding natural beauty and hosting nature-loving guests, should be leading the charge against partipating in animal cruelty not using it as a selling point. You can do better (and you'll entice a whole new audience too)! With that in mind, a vegan option on the room service menu would also have been great.
Review 79:Great location. Lovely refurbishment. Amazing view.
Review 80:First room we were given was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. Unfortunately I had to ask for an upgrade to a bigger room, I could not stay in a room that size.
Review 81:The hotel was very grand, clean with a very relaxing feel about it
Review 82:I had asked for a room over looking the lake at the time of booking but ended up with a rear facing room very disappointing
Review 83:The staff and location were excellant
Review 84:With the exception of lack of decent parking for larger vehicles, there was nothing we didn't like - we're already planning on re-visiting for our first anniversary.
Review 85:Outstanding room, view and the staff are amongst the best I've had the pleasure of dealing with.
Review 86:Small rooms with very small bathrooms. No bathrobes and slippers. No verity of food in the Breakfast
Review 87:Hotel location, view of the lake and the atmosphere
Review 88:The reception employee was very rude with an attitude shea made us cancel the second day because she refused to give us a double room since I have a ten year old child with me We came all the from california to look around the area for another hotel and when we got the family room for the first day of stay it didnt have AC So we had to talk to the duty manager he was helpful but we had to check out the next day because the lady on the reception made us cancel the second day
Review 89:Everything except the reception employee was not helpful at all she was rude with no appreciation but the duty manager was so kind and nice..
Review 90:The security. People alien to the hotel were allowed to go through the park and could reach our wondows and even enter the hotel via the always open fire exit door to the corridor. Breakfast was always the same and not matching the hotel category. Weddings every day was disturbing the rest of the customers. Door locks were noisy when shutting.
Review 91:The staff. The view. The decoration.
Review 92:Having to pay extra for some of the breakfast options.
Review 93:The location was excellent and we loved the underfloor heating in the bathroom, it must be really lovely in winter.
Review 94:I did not like my booking thru Booking.com as it was confirmed 2 adults and 1child in one room then at check in time, the hotel force me to pay for two rooms and this I beleive is not fair. My room # 12 and 29 . They said no family rooms are available inspite my earlier emails.
Review 95:Beautiful location, nice furniture, fantastic view on the lake and friendly staff,Breakfast was pleasant.
Review 96:there is nothing that i could find fault with
Review 97:a beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings and the best cooked breakfast i have ever had we paid extra for the lake view but this was worth every penny and the room was very tastefully furnished -have stayed previously but this is the first time since the hotel has been refurbished and all the money spent really shows -a first class hotel in every sense of the word
Review 98:£180 per night is way to expensive for the size of room we had, yes it had a beautiful view...but still this type of room and hotel should be nearer the £120 IMO.
Review 99:Location and staff were fantastic.
Review 100:This aged hotel purrs after her re-vamp. Her staff are pleased to work here, they anticipate their guests needs. All is spot -on. Food delicious, views amazing, I love it. Well done to you all, first class.
Review 101:No aircon in room we stayed in and window wouldn't stay open.
Review 102:Magnificent panoramic vista from lake-view room! Perfectly manicured and well kept lawn and gardens. Elegant and refined hotel.
Review 103:nothing significant. given the pricing and name, would expect a bit more "comfort details", like bathrobes in the room, a mini-bar etc. bathroom a bit too small
Review 104:fantastic location, view over the lake; nice spacious rooms with decent furniture, good design. very beautiful terrace overlooking the lake, and nice warm swimming pool.
Review 105:Staff very friendly and helpful. Stunning views of the lake. Everything was within easy walking distance from the hotel. Nice lounge and garden areas.
Review 106:We attended a wedding near by so booked laura ashley. Hotel lovely car parking in hotel was poor when we arrived. Fire alarms went off at 01.30 in morning as drunk had set it off so we were told.also went off at 9ish . Our view wasnt the best looking on holiday flats. When alarm went off no 1 member of staff told guests what to do or where to go.
Review 107:The waitress didn't seem to understand the menu at dinner. The meal itself was good.
Review 108:The location is outstanding. Looks as if it had recently been decorated to a very high standard.
Review 109:The service was often so-so and impacted our overall experience. We are accustomed to staying in 4-5 star hotels and were surprised by the oddly judgemental behavior of some members of the staff.
Review 110:Absolutely beautiful hotel and location.
Review 111:No atmosphere in the hotel bar, would have loved a nightcap in one of the drawing rooms but there was no one around, staff or guests. Ended up having hot chocolate in our room. Underfloor heating in bathroom was on continuously and was in necessary in June. Bathroom too small. If you were a tall person you would not be able to sit comfortably on the loo as your knees would have been wrapped around the heated towel rail
Review 112:The grand original style without being too posh. Lovely soft bed, Fantastic views enjoyed watching the water late at night
Review 113:Only negative was that the room was extremely hot. We had to have the electric fan that is provided and stored in the wardrobe switched on all through the night. No other negatives though, lovely hotel and grounds.
Review 114:Great location and views
Review 115:No hot water! 9.00am, rang down to enquire and told 20mins to be sorted. Gave up and had cold wash. Was told breakfast to be extended till 10.30 - good job went down, as all cleared at 10.15 and asked to leave 10.20. On checkout asked for reduction in bill, told not possible as advance payment . Receptionist argumentative! Water back on 10.15! One hour 15mins. later. So had I waited, no breakfast! Apart from reception, staff don't appear to wear uniform or badges.
Review 116:The view, location and grounds.
Review 117:We visit Bowness a lot but usually go self catering, this time we decided to treat ourselves and chose the Belsfield mainly because of the location. We were not disappointed, the whole experience was excellant and we can't wait to return.
Review 118:Overall everything was perfect. Enjoyable and will be returning again.
Review 119:Our room was a suite overlooking the lake beautiful, spacious and very clean. Food, staff and service was excellent.
Review 120:See in other box.
Review 121:The location, hotel's facilities, garden, sitting room, library, dining experiences but the whole experience was let down by a room that needed air conditioning and which looked out onto a noisy chimney like structure.
Review 122:We got a budget room but were charged full price, No view, as the window overlooked the the service area and noisy extractor fan. As there was no air conditioning we had the choice of noise or lack of ventilation
Review 123:prime location and stunning views from selected rooms, Grounds pleasant and well tended
Review 124:The rain, but I can't blame the hotel for that, at least if its raining you don't mind staying in!
Review 125:I booked online and asked for a romantic view, which we got, alongside a box of chocolates and an anniversary card, lovely touch.
Review 126:Our room was very warm even though weather was not warm. No air conditioning in our room. Housekeeping did not clean the room until 4pm despite being available from 10.30. Given the price paid not great value for money.
Review 127:Location, breakfast.
Review 128:Was very hot in hotel corridors. Pillows were too soft. On our first morning at breakfast were weren't informed that there was only scrambled egg and had to order fried egg seperately, menu wasn't on table so didn't know we could order other things! Chap with grey hair and glasses on reception needs to know how to smile and greet people with a bit more friendly manner! Had to go to reception to get key for gym and pool every time.
Review 129:Lovely decor, coffee machine, lemon bonbons, heated toilet seat and stunning view of lake from bedroom! Most staff were friendly, had gym and swimming pool to ourselves!
Review 130:How can you not like perfection
Review 131:Staff could not do enough for our stay, when you have happy staff you have a very good atmosphere, fantastic will be back, thank you all...
Review 132:Swimming pool was having maintenance work done so was out of action. To say it had just been refurbished there were maks on the walls. Bedside cabinets was dusty, mattress very soft. Water bottles not replenished once used.
Review 133:The location was fab, was given a Lake view which was excellent. Staff very friendly
Review 134:the bathroom was too small, the position of the loo was such that there wasn't really enough room to sit straight!
Review 135:we were very lucky to have beautiful weather which enabled us to have lunch and drinks on the lawn with a lovely view of the lake
Review 136:The 5 course menu - and the price of dinner in the dining room! Previously we enjoyed 3 courses at an acceptable price. Brasserie has a limited menu. Jacksons Bistro just down the road is a good alternative.
Review 137:This hotel has had a very good refurbishment. Very comfortable beds and attractive rooms.
