Reviews for The White Cliffs Hotel

Review 1:Really spacious rooms. Staff went above and beyond. Drove us there and back from their sister restaurant so we could enjoy and food & drink without the hassle of taxis. Amazing stay.

Review 2:On Saturday night there was noise from the restaurant until around 01.30am and that was a bit disturbing if you really want to sleep. But I guess that on a Saturday night it can happen..... Location wise if you don't have a car that can be quite tricky, there aren't many taxis around and it takes them some time to get there - just be patient.

Review 3:This hotel/BB is in a quiet spot and the facilities are quite nice. We really enjoyed the restaurant too and overall the price/quality ratio was excellent in our opinion. We wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of London and we were happy for a quick weekend getaway. I can really recommend the SPA at a nearby hotel they refer you to, entry is a honest £10 and there's a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub (facilities are not that big but were not that busy either so we really enjoyed that) - it's around 10 minutes walk from the property, better if you have a car since the road is very narrow, there's a way on the grass but can get very muddy, all in all it was a fun adventure! We also went on a walk and headed up to the coast (10 minutes) which was very pleasant too. For those wondering and that cannot live without it, yes they have Wi/Fi in the rooms and it works :-).

Review 4:Poor overpriced food in restaraunt. One veggie option on the whole mains menu-bland pasta Very poor service at dinner despite being only customets in there for most of the meal Tap dripped all night (drove me mad!) Curtain rail fell off the wall, wallpaper peeling- not very well maintained.

Review 5:Bed was really comfy Staff helped me to put a present and card in the room before my partner saw as a suprise The location was great...easy walking to dover along cliff paths Offered upgrade for free- was very appreciative Very good breakfast with great choice

Review 6:Everything was fine for the purpose of our visit.

Review 7:We were just on a booze cruise to Calais the next day, so the location to the port was brilliant. Unfortunately we dragged our heels a little the following morning and didn't give ourselves to explore the village, which seemed quaint. Bar and restaurant were good and the staff very friendly. Would visit again.

Review 8:Efficient hairdryer but fixed to wall and flex not long enough to reach mirror. Full length mirror but heavy TV in front of it. Wi fi was a bit erratic.

Review 9:Historic hotel with good restaurant. Great breakfast buffet included but with option to purchase hot food if required: we didn't need to.

Review 10:There was at times a lot of noise from people walking up and down the stairs as well as vehicles outside, for example vans making their deliveries (but I guess that can't be helped). It's a small hotel though with a homely feel and friendly staff so if you like that vibe as oppose to a generic hotel then the noise doesn't matter! It was a little difficult to wash my hair as the shower is low down on the wall. Just meant that I had to take it off the wall to rinse my hair.

Review 11:The staff couldn't do any more for you! We arrived late at night after the check in time but they were really helpful in ensuring that we got to our room ok. They also were kind enough to bring breakfast to our room as we slept until after the designated breakfast hours because of arriving in the early hours. The room was cute and slept 3 of us comfortably in a spacious room with double and single bed.

Review 12:This hotel was far too expensive especially as they were unable to provide an early breakfast. For a hotel so close to Dover this was poor.

Review 13:A comfortable room and the proximity to Dover

Review 14:The requirements of a function group placed above those of resident guests. The need to go outside to get to the main part of the hotel from the bedroom.

Review 15:Requested a ground floor room and was told this was booked. Elderly disabled parents had to negotiate very steep stairs as ground floor room was not saved for us.

Review 16:Lovely room. Tastefully and comfortably decorated and furnished.

Review 17:The bed was noisy and the mattress was very uncomfortable. We felt this was unexceptable for £110 per night. The room was quite basic.

Review 18:Pet friendly place to stay and the food was excellent.

Review 19:Did not include full English breakfast and the conineltal breakfast was a bit space more meats and boiled eggs over priced dinner menu

Review 20:Good Location lovely garden for a drink on a summer day very helpful staff

Review 21:Slow service in delivering an excellent breakfast, + why no breakfast tables set up outside on such a lovely morning?

Review 22:The friendliness of the staff, and they way they dealt with my late arrival due to Kent traffic, and arranged a replacement taxi to get me to my nephew's wedding with 2mins to spare!

Review 23:The fixtures and fittings in the room and en suite were very worn and the wooden bed frame was quite rickety although the mattress was supportive and the feather duvet of good quality.

Review 24:Really friendly staff team and public areas are very comfortable and cosy

Review 25:They lady rang me as I was arriving very late with my children. She was lovely and helpful. And I had no problems when I arrived the lady explained everything which made it all 10 times easier

Review 26:Address says it is in Dover but in fact it is out of town - well worth it when you arrive up the hill at St Margarets, but frustrating that advertised address and location is not accurate, so we drove around Dover for some time and had to ring for directions.

Review 27:Comfortable and lovely restaurant

Review 28:Sound travelled from bar and reception area to rooms above. Some members of our party disturbed until 2am.

Review 29:Comfortable rooms and proper bathrooms. Excellent restaurant. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 30:Staffed by 18 year olds who where rushed off their feet and seemed a bit clueless! Breakfast was not ready 10 minutes after opening time, I wasn't offered a coffee. In the end I made one in my room.

Review 31:Very nice location, lovely room. Great food and Peroni on tap

Review 32:Would like to see main bar room toilets brought up to date and modernized.more. Attention to detail at breakfast making sure tables are fully laid. example cups and saucers missing on out table.

Review 33:The comfortable bed and general feel of hotel, staff very friendly and welcoming. would recommend to friends..

Review 34:Food room and bed wos not good

Review 35:The place wos ok but with this heat i think the rooms could do with some solt of fan i wos staing for 2 days but had to move hotles food wos por and not a very good place tp stay may be if i wos 70ys old then yes but not for me

Review 36:Absolutely nothing to dislike

Review 37:Stayed here because of the channel tunnel problems & we were very pleasantly surprised. It's in a very beautiful location. The host/manager was extremely friendly & efficient. Had a good meal & a good sleep

Review 38:Friendly and welcoming staff. Very comfortable accommodation. We decided to dine in the hotel restaurant...the food was excellent and the waiting staff couldn't have been friendlier. Well done White Cliffs!

Review 39:We have no negative comments

Review 40:Atmosphere, lovely bar/restaurant/garden area, and the quietness (in the middle if a quiet village with the road leading to the beach a few minutes away by car. Friendly staff.

Review 41:The room in the mews building was noisy we could clearly hear the patron upstairs snoring loudly and we could hear someone else's TV quite clealrly bathroom needs some maintenance - broken sink and hot tap in bath came off twice !

Review 42:Staff were friendly and welcoming

Review 43:That I hadnt stayed there the previous night !!

Review 44:Clean quiet room Excellent food ... Salt marsh lamb .yum!! Nice selection of ales Friendly, helpful staff

Review 45:Car parking was a bit tricky, but the hotel was full when we stayed. The double room we had was a little cramped compared with other hotels The waiter at dinner was a little abrupt at times. No air conditioning in the room and the windows were very difficult to open Quite expensive as well we thought!

Review 46:The location and the style of the hotel are both great. The staff are very friendly and helpful Over all a good stay

Review 47:the staff were very friendly and seemed to enjoy working in the place. the bar snacks (nachos, chips, chorizo etc) and the local beers on tap were great. its not boring crisps and carling here. the décor is very fresh and interesting. breakfast was great and the fruit salad was exceptional.

Review 48:The wifi not strong enough outside the immediate main reception area.

Review 49:The staff were all friendly, helpful and cheerful. The breakfast buffet had a great fresh fruit salad, good choice of cereals ,jams and love it or hate it marmite . Dinner catch of the day excellent.

Review 50:The mattress was a bit tired and noisy whenever you rolled over or got into or out of bed!

Review 51:The hotel was beautifully clean and there were parts that had clearly been recently renovated and painted. The staff were friendly and helpful

Review 52:Unfortunately when we went down to breakfast I was told that we couldn't eat in the dining room on this occasion which has never happened before. Previously we have eaten in the dining room both at lunch and in the evening. I was a bit put out as I was staying on my own so couldn't leave my dog alone in the room. In the end we were allowed to eat at a table in the dining room.

Review 53:This was the first time that I had stayed as an overnight guest and My dog and I received a warm welcome.

Review 54:Not quite sure that this hotel meets its own standards. Besides the problems with the showers (for which, to their credit, they gave us some compensation), we were not as positive over the restaurant as some other reviewers have been. Seating a bit crowded, and the food was so so.

Review 55:Wonderful location for walks along the White Cliffs, the day before catching the boat to France. Our room was a good size for us and our dog.

Review 56:A bit freaked out by the lack of door to the bathroom from the bedroom! A very good breakfast buffet but you did have to pay extra for hot food.

Review 57:Really welcoming staff, modern decor, fantastic restaurant downstairs

Review 58:As I was stupid enough not to check if there was a lift we expected to have to climb a lot of stairs to the top. We find stairs difficult so we were delighted to find that we were put in a studio. WE thought this very thoughtful

Review 59:The bed could be a bit wider and the standard room is on the small side. Fine for a short stay though.

Review 60:Mews rooms were in a separate building from the hotel and very quiet. Easy access to main building just next door. Liked the style iof decor and seaside theme. Loved the hotel bar and liked the restaurant.

Review 61:Noise from kitchen/bar/reception area permeated through bedroom floorboards which disturbed sleep - would choose a mews room if staying again

Review 62:Staff very pleasant and helpful and food was excellent

Review 63:Room hot even with window open My partner struggled with suitcase when being shown to room no offer of help from staff member

Review 64:Relaxed atmosphere Good food Quiet Room

Review 65:Restaurant quality is very variable - sometimes its faultless and sometimes it's a real disappointment. Can be very noisy in the annex - internal firedoors bang in the wind at night if there are any open windows.

Review 66:Stylish boutique hotel with very friendly service. Spotlessly clean rooms with good facilities and quality toiletries. Nice bar and restaurant area and a garden for summer evenings. Only a few minutes from the ferry terminal.

Review 67:The staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. A big plus for us was that the hotel is dog friendly so "Meg" was made to feel very welcome indeed.

Review 68:Not one single thing

Review 69:Such a wonderful hotel! Stylish but quirky, staff can't do enough to make you (and your four footed friends) welcome . The food is fabulous, the garden gorgeous, the village pretty and the coast spectacular. Loved it!

Review 70:The surrounding area looked a little run down with business premises ie. pub and shop closed and metal grids at the windows.

Review 71:Food was excellent Staff were very good Very relaxed atmosphere English breakfast very good. Nice garden

Review 72:Some of the décor, particularly the hallway and stairs leading to the rooms looked very tired. Some of the quality and attention to detail usually found in hotels of this price category was absent, so we felt it was a bit overpriced.

Review 73:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and the outdoor space was pleasant.

Review 74:Outside paint work looking very tired and inside rooms could be 'tarted up' a bit - continental breakfast is boring and could do with more variety

Review 75:Always friendly and good feel about the place. Some of the room are huge and spacious. Wireless works in outside rooms !

Review 76:We shared the loft appartment - one room small and no decent showers

Review 77:Local kent produce - with the history of the white cliffs area and all it signifies - our Canadian friends loved it.

Review 78:I arrived late evening and the staff where very helpful with all my requests. Rooms where well presented, clean and looked well kept. Would defiantly recommend.

Review 79:Hotel was very cosy and I felt like I was in my living room, staff were very friendly and would do anything for you and the restaurant food was fantastic. Would recommend and will be using again

Review 80:First and foremost stood out that the staff weren't up to a great standard: forgot what was ordered, esp. at breakfast time, not nicely dressed etc. As lovely the lounge has been decorated it was very small and as lovely the dinner food has been the breakfast was a certain let down. Included in the room price was a 'continental' one (5 pound more for a full 'English') which isn't bad but...the choice and presentation was bare minimum. And the staff...oh well... the bed has been romantic but the mattress and pillows weren't not, Mattress very soft and with a 'ditch' and the pillows very hard. The shower had a bit of an 'attitude'. We didn't stay over long hours at the hotel since we were mostly out exploring the lovely coastline so it didn't bother us too much.

Review 81:I booked that hotel as a birthday treat for my husband. I booked the four-poster bedroom and we were pleasantly surprised how spacious it was. Even the bathroom was large. We dined at the hotels restaurant and the food has been delicious. There has been a large parking area at the back of the hotel and - hurrah - no extra fees for our little dog! If one wanted ones four legged friend accompany them for dining, it could be arranged (outside the dining room).

Review 82:The toilet handle was falling off & the sink had a big crack running through it. Decor needed updating & made lighter

Review 83:Food was good quality & beds were comfy to ensure a good nights sleep.

Review 84:If you only need one nights stay before crossing over to France this is the place to stay to begin your holiday. Ample car parking, lovely lively resaurant at reasonable prices.

Review 85:Double bed was too small Room was quite small , walking around the bed resulted in hitting our legs on the sharp wooden corners . Shower was defective(discovered early morning). Totally unacceptable for a supposedly 3 *** hotel

Review 86:Restaurant and Dinner was outstanding. Staff were very friendly. Location excellant for East Kent & channel port

Review 87:the bathroom very poor/ceiling peeling badly and terrible shower.the staff were unbelievably rude and everything was too much trouble for them with only a young girl and a young man named john the only ones who made an effort to help and smile

Review 88:the room

Review 89:We couldn't access the wifi but wasn't a problem as we only stayed for 1 night

Review 90:We paid for a standard double and got a family house for the same price

Review 91:It was quite noisy, (not great sound insulation) from other guests, children running around in rooms above and very early risers speaking very loudly. But it was so nice there that I would certainly love to stay there again.

Review 92:Loved the decor, very homely feel, really friendly and helpful staff, excellent food, although when I booked it came up saying breakfast, so was surprised that was a continental breakfast, which was very good, chose to pay extra for a full English, very good standard

Review 93:In the attick one bath foot pedal was broken when I got in there the bath tilt and I bumped my head on the ceiling , and the water pressure was very low technology these days you could fit a pump

Review 94:The top attick room was nice for a big family , and nice and quite up there

Review 95:All I can suggest is that the bread for toasting could have been of a higher quality - that's all!

Review 96:Genuinely warm welcome, Comfortable, homely atmosphere.Approachable, helpful staff. Delicious food.

Review 97:The price for the English breakfast is to much. The continental breakfast included is not worthwhile.

Review 98:We missed a helping hand for our luggage as my husband is handicapped and we were travelling with our dog.

Review 99:Friendly staff, cosy location. Excellent food. We booked last minute and we were delighted with the welcome and the accommodation

Review 100:Staff atmosphere location

Review 101:Mould in the bathroom smell was very stron and gave us both headache

Review 102:I like the staff and the restaurant is amazing !!

Review 103:Ideal place to stay after a wedding nearby, with a serious breakfast to boot.

Review 104:Great place happy days

Review 105:The hotel was quirky, the staff informal but professional. The restaurant was pleasant.

Review 106:Comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Food of good standard

Review 107:Wonderful hotel, more like an inn. Popular local spot, good food, wonderful, friendly service.

Review 108:Food average at best and with an extra £5 for a cooked breakfast which was poor that was disappointing

Review 109:Location

Review 110:The state of the bathroom decorations

Review 111:How nice the staff were

Review 112:Friendly staff, very welcoming. Great food, cosy bar / pub area with fireplace. Parking on site. Would definitely come back when in the area.

Review 113:V comfy bed and immediate attention from staff when the bathroom tap came off in my hand!

Review 114:Atmosphere and comfatable room.

Review 115:The rooms whilst very clean, were a little dated.

Review 116:The staff were extremely friendly and very engaging, making eye contact at all times.

Review 117:Polite friendly staff. Nice food.

Review 118:Excellent breakfast, helpfull and kind stuff, good location

Review 119:Winter weight duvet was too warm in Aug.

Review 120:Quiet location. Proximity to ferry.

Review 121:Very friendly staff and a very welcoming place.

Review 122:The style of the place reminds the US Hamptons, proximity to bus stops , peaceful place, the little nice garden, the good restaurant.

Review 123:Nothing

Review 124:Conveniently located near Dover for catching a cross channel ferry. Comfortable room and excellent breakfast.

Review 125:The bathroom and my room was a bit rundown but perfectly adequate.

Review 126:Lovely building, very friendly welcoming staff.
