Reviews for The West Bank Guest House

Review 1:Such a great guest house. I stayed here with my two sisters and it was lovely to be altogether as we were told by other hotels as we were 3 adults we'd need two rooms which was ridiculous so thank you West Bank. The staff were very warm and welcoming.

Review 2:The room was really cold. Even though the weather was about 15degrees the room [and expecially the bathroom] was freezing cold.

Review 3:Very friendly staff, very clean and big room

Review 4:Tired décor. Told we couldn't park in carpark as we were leaving early and it would be locked. No real interest from staff/owner. Just waved us in the general direct of the rooms. Location a bit out of town.

Review 5:Big room. Nice bath.

Review 6:Far away from the train station and on the opposite way to the castle and coast. More suitable for a backpacker rather than those who had large luggage.

Review 7:The host is nice and the room is cozy

Review 8:The wifi does not reliably reach to the sixth floor. It was no big deal as we simply used the hotel lobby area for internet. The staff offered to move us, but we liked the room so much we simply decided to stay.

Review 9:The staff are fantastic, and very friendly. My wife had a bad allergic reaction to something, and they were very concerned and helpful. We felt like we made new friends while we were there over a week-long stay.

Review 10:Located in not such a nice area. It's always noisy outside, whether your room is to the front or the back. But since the hotel is mostly used for catching the ferry or after a long days journey, it's still a great location. Depends from which point of view you are looking at. We still could catch a good nights sleep.

Review 11:Friendly owners. Lovely family room. Nice atmosphere. Ideal to catch the ferry next morning. Very clean. Beds are compfy, but have a skirting board. So if you are very tall, it's a bit short since your feet can't stick out at the bottom.

Review 12:the area is a bit insecure but the car is parked at the rear of the B&B behind a closed gate. Should be renamed "B only" on Booking.com as price on website does not include Breakfast (which is delicious and worth the actual price)

Review 13:the location (5 min drive from Dover ferry port), the professional welcome, cleanliness and deliciously cooked full English breaksfast.

Review 14:Wifi reception in the room. Bed was a little hard and you could deel the springs. Small bathroom

Review 15:Very Friendly receptition and people. ill give you advise and local knowledge for visiting dover.

Review 16:Although we arrived shortly after 10pm, were welcomed very friendly. Everything good. Warm charming hosts. If ever passing through Dover again, that would be my address to stay.

Review 17:Takes about 15 minutes to walk to from train station and longer to walk to town/the cliffs.

Review 18:Very friendly staff Clean rooms and comfortable bedding lovely front garden

Review 19:The only thing I have to say is that when my husband checked in they seemed very concerned that we were going to be very noisy when we returned from the wedding we were attending. I understand that this may be the case for some but we respect others and the rooms are very close together. I think it's unfair to assume that we would have been very noisy.

Review 20:It was a great find, close to the wedding we had attended. Very clean and comfortable and the staff seemed friendly.

Review 21:The B&B itself is lovely, has everything one needs for a short stay. The hosts are warm and make you feel at home. The food is great! Completely recommend.

Review 22:We were late due to transport problems but kept hotel informed. Very unfriendly welcome by manager who opened the door in his Pyjamas.

Review 23:Near to the ferry port

Review 24:Really nice little Guest House, friendly and welcoming. Only stayed one night as we were catching the ferry next morning. Can't really fault it. We will stay there again no problem at all

Review 25:Fixtures and fittings seem a bit rickety. Vegetarian breakfast is everything but the meat. Veggie sausages would be nice and perhaps locally sourced food.

Review 26:Cleanliness and parking facility as well as useful local knowledge. Nice to find large rooms and companion rooms.

Review 27:Bed was very uncomfortable mattress old and saggy. Plaster under windows had holes to the brick. Mirror in bathroom impossible to use for shaving or make up ,stuck on a side wall instead of over sink. Lighting in bathroom poor. Shower not user friendly. Coffee in room had a stale taste. Very noisy main road.

Review 28:Secure locked parking (but only if leaving after 7 am ). Carpets were nice.

Review 29:Narrow stairs, not easy to get suitcase in upper floors, not a great location, preferred a taxi to get back from restaurant instead of walking after dark

Review 30:Cleanliness very good, helpful staff, good recommendation on restaurants, good breakfast, nice interior, close to ferry port

Review 31:It was a bit expensive (just under £100), for a family room with no breakfast (not that we'd have been able to have it anyway, due to our early departure.

Review 32:We booked this accommodation because of the location (we had an early ferry crossing to Calais the next morning), so it was great to be just 5 mins drive from the port.

Review 33:Steep staircase so if your getting on this will be hard.shower hard to adjust water temp.if you don't like noise avoid as people next door very loud and seagulls on shed roof get you up EARLY but apart from that alls good

Review 34:Friendly and helpfull host, good breakfast easy access to port only 5 mins away.

Review 35:size of room, comfort of beds, good sized en suite, nice decor, close to ferry port, owner swapped our room when he realised our children were teenagers rather than younger ones - many thanks.

Review 36:Had a very early morning ferry so we weren't able to park in the secure parking behind hotel, but the owner moved his car for us so we could get a space. Very close to ferry terminal and a short walk into town.

Review 37:Although the Hotel advertised that it had Car parking facilities we were told that it would not be a good idea to park in the Carpark in view of the fact that we had to leave at 3am in the morning as we could be blocked in. We were told to park on the side road at the Hotel. We found one space where we parked the Car, after wich we walked into Town for a Meal as we did not think that on return a parking space would be available.

Review 38:Clean and comfortable. Very close to the Ferry Port.

Review 39:Lack of parking. Advertised as secure parking. We had 0545 sailing so had to be out of hotel by 0445. Told we would have to park in street as car park to hotel is locked till 0700. This means you either take all luggage into hotel or risk leaving it in the car overnight. No flexibility for anyone who has early departure.

Review 40:Location with regards to car ferry

Review 41:There were a lot of stairs to get to our room on the third floor no lift and pictures on the walls which we knocked while trying to cart our bags up the stairs.shower needed getting used to

Review 42:Nice breakfast and off street parking

Review 43:Friendly welcome. Nice breakfast

Review 44:Am slightly disabled, too many steps outside with no railings. Stairs inside with no proper bannisters.

Review 45:Room was spotless, beautifully kept.

Review 47:Lovely proprietoress Made us welcome

Review 48:Very friendly owner - comfort ++++. Location perfect. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent ++++++++

Review 49:The owner went out of her way to book us a taxi to Harwich and made those arrangements.

Review 50:Helpfull hosts

Review 55:friendliness of the staff

Review 56:Welcoming and friendly staff.A comfortable place to stay with the added bonus of parking for a car.

Review 57:The shower pressure could be improved

Review 58:Probably the friendliest and most helpful owners/staff that we have come across

Review 59:Parked on the main road so as not to get blocked in, in the car park.

Review 60:Nice clean room and ensuite and family room a good size.

Review 61:Bathroom

Review 62:Bed not the best - a bit lumpy.

Review 63:Ideally situated for the ferry port.

Review 64:friendly owners and free to come and go as you liked

Review 65:The location was excellent. We travelled by train and it was very close to the train station.

Review 66:nothing

Review 67:The friendly staff, the bed was very comfortable, and the free breakfast was perfect.

Review 68:Immaculate rooms and the comfiest beds ever. The garden was well tended and very attractive.

Review 69:Friendliness of owners and clientele

Review 70:Can't access to Wifi.

Review 71:The power of the shower is just adequate.

Review 72:Excellent service and welcoming from owner. Good cooked breakfast. Nice breakfast room.

Review 73:can't think of anything bad to say.

Review 74:A lovely helpfull owner & tasty English breakfast.

Review 75:Nothing in particular. No wifi on room but hey...

Review 76:Nice owner, playing guitar for breakfast. Good location close to ferry, and parking on premise.

Review 77:No shampoo, poor Wifi

Review 78:The people were very nice and quite conveniently located

Review 79:noisy street but they have double glass windows to shut out the noise.

Review 80:clean rooms, very helpful staff, close to the ferries,

Review 81:Very friendly clean good breakfast

Review 82:If you dont put your car/bike in locked yard you will struggle to park. Also quiet a long walk for food

Review 83:Locked yard for parking

Review 84:Friendly Staff, Simple but good quality breakfast, parking facility. close to Ferry Terminal

Review 85:Very friendly, quiet. About a mile to town centre but a nice steady walk if weather is nice. Proper Full English breakfast, Family friendly.

Review 86:Awkward stairs to second-floor room

Review 87:Comfortable bed, spotless room, cheerful, warm welcome.

Review 88:Secure parking for my motorbike & only 5 minutes from ferry port. I've stayed here twice and will return again next year.

Review 89:Nothing serious. It was beyond my expectations.

Review 90:I stayed in a Victorian style room which was quite nice. The owner was a very kind gentleman who helped me with whatever I needed. The house itself was beautiful with amazing decor. Wish I had more time to spend there.

Review 91:No real negatives.

Review 92:The friendly owners were very accommodating. The breakfast was worth the price. You could walk to the castle or the walking path on the cliffs, but most people will probably want to use a car. Off-street parking is nice. Would definitely stay again.

Review 93:The West Bank was awesome. If you are traveling to Dover you should stay here. Michael and his wife were very accommodating and if you're lucky - Michael will bring out his guitar and sing with you :). My favorite place so far in my travels.

Review 94:Woke staff up early in the morning as we had to leave to get to the ferry and our cars were locked in. I guess he wasn't awake really but just made me feel bad about it whereas i shouldn't have as a customer.

Review 95:Nice clean room and bath room. Seemed a lovely little place though we only stayed for one night. Definitely good value for money.

Review 96:Very small room. No place to put luggage except on the floor. No place to put things in the bathroom. Towels were small and thin. Lots of outside noise from neighbors. No elevator. Steep, narrow stairs. We were in Europe for over a month and this was the worst place we stayed.

Review 97:Very nice host. Clean. Well-decorated.

Review 98:No lift. Rooms very small and hard to get to. Stairs were very narrow. Beds did not have thick mattresses, less than 2" thick and lumpy. Barely enough towels and they were small. Shower too small for us and hard to access due to sink in the way. No AC and no Fans. No radio or alarm clocks. Window opened only a few inches. Lights were very dim.

Review 99:Owners were nice people

Review 100:The staff were excellent and very friendly. As we were stuck in traffic and got very late, they were very helpful for a very late check in at 1:00 am! The room was clean and nice, breakfast was very good.

Review 101:Our room was a little bit old-fashioned for our contemporary taste, but it was comfortable and clean anyway.

Review 102:The staff has been extremely friendly and hospitable, providing us a car parking and useful information about the area. Both the english and the continental breakfast were delicious, plentiful and varied. The hotel is close to the port, to the castle and to the white cliffs very easy to join if you're travelling with a car. Both the english and continental breakfast was delicious, plentiful and varied.

Review 103:I am sure website said a bar but there isn'T. Local pub nearby

Review 104:I don't normally stay in b&b,s but booked this as I only wanteda cheap stopover whilst going to a wedding. Pleasantly surprised at thestandard of comfort and cleanliness. Nice welcome from owner who bookeda taxi without prompting and would recommend this b&b even for a fewnights if I was staying in the area. Good value

Review 105:Extra charge for breakfast - we were told that people who book on the internet have to pay an extra 6 pounds per person for the English breakfast or an extra 3 pounds each for continental

Review 106:General atmosphere, nice room

Review 107:Used as an overnight stopover before taking a ferry to Calais. Convenient location and good value for money for this purpose. Dover has a castle and other interesting attractions, including the nearby "Battle of Britain" memorial.

Review 108:unlikely, very very early breakfast for us Dover isn´t worth a visit apart from to and fro

Review 109:Many cushions, tipical english even though not really as the owners weren´t born here - but even more, very típical breakfast good but too early lovely b&b if you are on the road to or from the ferries but don´t miss out Dover Castle if you´re keen on history. Very well made exhibiton, do allow minimum 2 hours as you should do the palace and at least one of the tunnel tours

Review 110:Breakfast was not great, room was small, but that was becuase we had an extra twin bed in the room.

Review 111:Good value for the money, owners are nice but give you your space.... Small paking access in the back of the home.

Review 112:Located on a busy street but actually the street noise was no problem and they provide free off street parking.

Review 113:The host was very helpful and friendly, just the B&B hospitality we were looking for. It was also nice to be able to have all of us comfortably in one room (two adults and children ages 8 and 10). Great location for the ferry.

Review 114:The owners of the house were fantastic, very helpful, there guest house is lovely, clean, friendly and has a great atmosphere. We even got sung to at breakfast after the husband cooked us breakfast, we were joined by both husband and wife for a cuppa, very lovely people. Felt like we were visiting friends. Close access to everything.

Review 115:Excellent stay at this friendly and comfortable guest house. Made very welcome and we enjoyed our stay very much. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends and family.

Review 116:Top floor with big bags, a bit of a struggle after a long bike ride, but certainly would consider staying again, did not put us off.

Review 117:Secure off road parking; friendly helpful host.

Review 118:I stayed with friends at the above guest house prior to catching a ferry. It was in a good location as regards to the ferry terminal and generally everything about the b&b was very acceptable and I would stay there again. The breakfast was good too and the owners very helpful.

Review 119:Nice comfortable room....friendly owners. Did not have breakfast so we cannot comment on food etc., It served our purposes for a few days visiting family.
