Reviews for Hôtel Le Sauvage

Review 1:GPS kept sending me towards a blocked road which is just temporarily inconvenient. I hate that I couldn't spend more time there because of my business but will come back for romance, next time...

Review 2:The tall blond lady of room service, Hotel, the old town, everything, it was just great staying at this hotel...

Review 3:The climb up the hill when we were done exploring. Nothing they can change, but save some energy for that. My only regret is we didn't have enough time there.

Review 4:Old World Charm with modern amenities. I felt as though I was a guest in a privately-owned villa. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 5:Convenient and quiet location. The rooms are tastefully appointed and the staff are very kind and helpful. We just stayed one night but the hotel and the town were so appealing that we wished we had stayed a few more days.

Review 6:The lovely wooden floors were noisy in the mornings with guests coming and going.

Review 7:Brilliant location in the old town, near the Citadel. Only a 5-10min walk to either. Lovely helpful staff. Nice big room.

Review 8:While a bit hard to get to due to some city road work, the location was perfect for our purposes. Right next to the Citadelle and the old town it was great. The facility has a lot of character and the staff was wonderful.

Review 9:Everything was fine

Review 10:A delightful hotel, interesting decor and beautifully renovated, we had a very spacious room and a delicious breakfast on the terrace with fantastic views. There was a great atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff after a long drive.

Review 11:Beautiful building, old convent with very pleasant gardens and very tastefully decorated interior. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Located just below the citadel with a wonderful terrace overlooking the river.

Review 12:This historic building has been beautifully restored and modernized. The location couldn't be better, at the top of the old city right below the Citadel. Great views. Convenient parking.

Review 13:Lack of air con so quite hot in room. Small fan provided second time asked.

Review 14:Beautiful room, with character and very calming. Spacious bathroom with high quality toiletries.

Review 15:This hotel was completely renovated in 2011 in a lovely classical design. Everything was wonderful. Friendly helpful staff, parking on site, great breakfast and within walking distance to everything in Old Town.

Review 16:There was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but we knew that before we arrived.

Review 17:It was such a surprise when we eventually found this hotel ..a real jewel above the city with easy access to the town. Thereceptionstaff were so friendly, helpful with places and restaurants to visit and providing a bit of background to the converted convent that was now our hotel. There were great little touches such as we were drinking a bottle of champagne (our wedding anniversary) on the terrace, the receptionist/manager saw us and came back with a candle to make it a more special romantic setting. All the decour was new and the bathroom was stunning. A memorable place to stay and would recommend whether you are staying for a night or a few days.

Review 18:Nothing worth fussing about!

Review 19:This is the exact definition of a hotel! Atmosphere pays tribute to the hotel's heritage, staff is the most genuinely friendly I have met in France. Room was great, breakfast what you wish for without exaggerating. We arrived late, almost closing time, but still got to drink wine on the terrace. Wished we had stayed longer, both hotel and city totally worth more than a stopover

Review 20:no tea or coffee maker in the room or no news channel or english channel for the on the TV plus no cooked breakfast not everybody likes bread cheese and ham or bread and jam ! or cakes i travell all arround the world staying at many hotels but this hotel need to keep up with todays standard.

Review 21:Everything, location, excellent staff, friendly, comfortable, relaxed, pet friendly, old building beautifully restored tastefully modernised and furnished, clean, stunning views.

Review 22:This part of France gets very hot and the lack of any form of air conditioning in a hotel in this price range made sleep impossible. Also the hotel was not serving evening meals, at least when we were there.

Review 23:Location and view from the breakfast balcony superb

Review 24:The only issue we had was finding the hotel which was really hard. The hotel should give better directions on its website.

Review 25:The location was great and the staff extremely helpful in meeting our requests.

Review 26:What a lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful, you were even shown to the room unusual for this day and age. The room's decor was lovely. We had a lovely view of the garden and scenery beyond. Advise book a parking space as no parking nearby. The hotel is at the top of a short hill fairly close to other restaurants. All in all an excellent stopover for us.

Review 27:Fine staff and they did what they could but air conditioning would have been better for the price. Excellent

Review 28:Pleasant staff, comfortable room once fan provided

Review 29:The hotel had no knowledge of our booking.com reservation. They had a room and we paid a lot of money for this room with air conditioning, however the air conditioning unit was in the foyer of our room and the bedroom was up some steps through a door so no aircon in bedroom which was in the eves so very hot 38 deg C. Or sleep on the floor in the foyer.

Review 30:The staff were very kind and helpful

Review 31:The only issue was the poor WiFi signal.

Review 32:The hotel has been delightfully renovated, with superb style after its former use as a nunnery. Comfort and decor are lovely, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 33:WiFi was not reliable and my 3G service noticeably faster.

Review 34:The hotel is a converted convent, beautifully and authentically presented. Our room was at the top of the building with lovely views onto the city and huge bath (but sadly no shower). The bed was only a double and not really up to the standards of the rest of the hotel but we had a lovely three roomed suite so no complaints. The hotel is between the old city and hilltop citadel - the drive up there is circuitous but passes some lovely old buildings. We had a nice walking tour discovering the home city of Raymond Blanc and had a lovely dinner at a great Italian restaurant - l'Osteria Enoteca Italiana.

Review 35:The pull out couch for our children was a bit uncomfortable and lumpy. It was fine for children who are light but would not have been acceptable for adults. However, it was not fou adults so seems a small point. The phone/shower leaked a bit.

Review 36:The hotel is elegant and understated. The rooms are not at all cookie-cutter but rather individually furnished with their own personality. Staff was helpful and polite. Really a gorgeous place and good value

Review 37:Some mattress covers protect the mattress and you don't even know they are there. This one made me uncomfortably hot all night, which was a shame for such an otherwise lovely hotel. For the money, I'd have liked to have had a bath. The shower was very big but the tap so stiff that I had to turn it using a towel. Also, the cappuccino with breakfast was awful. Like the machine had never been cleaned.

Review 38:The place was beautiful, in a lovely location, the staff were very friendly, and it felt very luxurious. I loved the decor

Review 39:Only good experience

Review 40:Room with a view over a beautiful garden. Drinks on the balcony. Helpful staff at all levels. Good breakfast. Hard to ask for more.

Review 41:Having to pay for parking on the grounds. We were told we could park there but didn't know we'd be charged for it until we got the bill. Felt like it was penny pinching.

Review 42:It was a last minute find and out of our expected budget but that made it a real treat! Interesting building, comfortable family room and good information re local area.

Review 43:The configuration of the room, we pay for a suite and we get a room with two little chair and a desk as a sitting room, a small screen tv in front of the bed. It was very windy and we had trouble sleeping due to the windows letting the wind passing through. We had asked and be confirmed a room on first floor and then given a supposedly suite on third floor with no elevator.

Review 44:The staff was very nice.

Review 45:Would like tea/coffee facilities in the room, but this isn't normal for France so didn't really expect it

Review 46:Lovely hotel in a great location with very helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again

Review 47:Romantic atmosphere. Excellent location, very close to the historical center and at the same time very quite. Very friendly hotel staff. Private parking.

Review 48:Taxi service/ordering didn't work at all, we were not good enough informed about the situation in the city and almost got late to a very important meeting reception staff should improve!!!

Review 49:If you want to be near the center of things, it might be a little far for you, but we found the short walks quite nice.

Review 50:The property is gorgeous, the staff extremely friendly, and the nights vert quiet.

Review 51:mosquitos in the room

Review 52:great location in an old monastery, very quiet, great views, good location not many rooms staff very helpful and friendly good breakfast

Review 53:Wi-fi was a litte slow

Review 54:Great location walking distance to sites Beautiful newish building tastefully decorated Views of city Full breakfast at reasonable price Parking for nominal charge Feels more like a high quality 4-star hotel than a 3-star

Review 55:No aircon or fans.

Review 56:Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was good. Got to watch sunset from our room. And 10 min walk to castle and within walking distance to wonderful restaurants. Def recommend this to friends 2 night stay at least.

Review 57:Nothing, we had a great stay in this lovely little city and hope to be back.

Review 58:The warm welcome from the staff, their help with restaurant recommendations and reservations and their willingness to allow us to stumble through our communications in French. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.

Review 59:Bit of a hike back up the hill from the town!

Review 60:Lovely hotel with wonderful terrace on which you could have breakfast! also a good place to just sit with a drink.

Review 61:Wi fi was patchy

Review 62:Calm comfortable good shower and bed excellent breakfast lovely staff. Pretty and perfect for walking to citadel and old town.no tea or coffee in room but just ask and a lovely big pot appears in a few minutes!

Review 63:A very small minus: Our wifi in the room was very weak because we were on the top floor. They need a signal enhancer. But it is an old monastery with thick walls so it is hard to really complain.

Review 64:The real historic feel of the place. This is a fantastic hotel (4 solid star feel with all what that in tails) in a perfect location - our last stay of the holidays, and what a beautiful ending.

Review 65:nothing

Review 66:Beautiful hotel with a nice and roomy suite, perfect for two adults with two children. Thoughtful staff. Location is great for visiting the city.

Review 67:Couldn't pick up the WiFi signal in our room at all.

Review 68:Lovely setting. Quiet location but only a 5 minute walk to the town centre. Beautiful interior decoration - felt like a 4/5 star. The hotel doesn't have much in the way of facilities but we didn't miss them. We were extremely happy with the spacious, clean, tastefully decorate room.

Review 69:Whilst pleasant the staff didn't offer help with the luggage and were not particularly forthcoming with recommendations for good restaurants. The need to buzz for entry every time was odd, especially as the reception could be seen from the front door.

Review 70:Set high overlooking Besancon, the hotel is a well refurbished historic building. The terrace for breakfast, with views of the city and surrounding countryside is worth the cost of the room on its own.

Review 71:Charming hotel in a historical building. Helpful staff. Parking facility.

Review 72:Beautiful small hotel at the top of the hill. Nice room. Great breakfast.

Review 73:We felt like kings and the food was spot on

Review 74:Personal!!!

Review 84:The historic building very well restored, refurbished and decorated. Excellent breakfast.

Review 85:Nice clean hotel with big comfy rooms, in a good location close to the town.

Review 86:Great for us, but would not suit anyone with kids buggy or mobility problems, as it is up quite a steep hill.

Review 87:Beautiful hotel and setting

Review 88:No aircon in the room so it was very stuffy in the room while we slept.

Review 89:Beautiful place to stay and the staff were very friendly.
