Reviews for Belfast International Youth Hostel
Review 1:Internet was difficult to connect to at times.
Review 2:Friendly and helpful staff, spacious room and secured parking for our car. Close walking distance to the pubs I wanted to visit too!
Review 3:i had very bad experience on reception, the attitude of receptionist was not good at all. toilet wasn't clean fully
Review 4:the location was very good, bus station and city centre was not very far away
Review 5:The 4 bedroom room was too small for 4 guys, we couldn't walk with all the bags. There's only wifi in the reception.
Review 6:The place is centric, clean and safe
Review 7:Would have loved a kettle in the room for a coffee or tea,as we had an early start to our day
Review 8:Proximity to city centre. Very quiet at night while we were there. Slept well.
Review 9:- No Wi-fi in he room; - dirty room, garbage can was full; - cold in the room; - creaky bed.
Review 10:- Quite good and convenient kitchen; - helpful staff on reception; - price.
Review 11:The staff wanted to keep my passaport as guarantee for the key/card. The room was a bit small for four people and there were just two plugs to charge phones etc.The hostel charge 1£/h to use the guest computer.
Review 12:There was not enough sockets in our room - stayed in a four ppl mixed dorm with two sockets. Wifi's only available in public areas, and the room was a bit too cold. (Radiator didn't seem to work)
Review 13:Very friendly staff when I checked out early in the morning! I also went to the free walking tour provided by the hostel, the weather wasn't good at all - raining and windy, but the guide was knowledgeable and nice as well.
Review 14:Pretty good location, the center was kind of small so could easily walk to all places from hostel. Really nice staff. Slep in a four bed mixed dormitory only for one night and everything went really good. Room was pretty clean and shower just outside the room.
Review 15:What a dive no help locating anywhere to get a padlock as they had ran out and no pre-warning that one was needed. Previous experience in hostels had locker that you just paid for staff not helpful at all place was a mess
Review 16:Getting out without anything going missing
Review 17:They only provide wifi in the lobby, the building and room is quite old. And the room we get is very noisy during the night, it feels like there is no window at all.
Review 18:It is quite near to the central bus station, and if you booked tour with isango, it is the exact departure place. Common kitchen for guests.
Review 19:Location was a bit far and the bathroom was one big space with the toilet so wet feet all the time. But this was all no problem
Review 20:The staff was very friendly and helpfull! The restaurant has amazing food for good prices!
Review 21:No tidy bed when I walk into the female-only room. I told a staff, and she changed a room for me. But it's a mix room when I saw a family live in the room the second day... No words. They should be more thoughtful!
Review 22:unhelpful personnel lack of hairdryers very uncomfortable beds the keys did not work many times cold room because of leaky windows strange policy regarding one-day wifi user&password
Review 23:kitchen and cafe showers
Review 24:Beds were uncomfortable, whole room (we were in a twin with private bathroom) needed some care. Very worn down and price was not much cheaper than a cheap hotel for a twin room. Lots of noise from elevator pinging all night, no option of a blanket or extra pillow in the room (especially as it was a bit chilly). Won't be back
Review 25:Breakfast was delicious.
Review 26:No place to store your valuables. Showers and toilets were quite old and worn out. Lot's of moi from the street below.
Review 27:Very friendly and helpful staff Not too far from a railway station.
Review 28:I had trouble sleeping there. One of room mate disturb peace during night hours. He liked to shake bed and make noise. This is first time ever I had this kind of expierence. Was this because of snoring, I don't know, but surely you should keep in mind that you sleep with others people. In result I was not completly satisfied with that.
Review 29:Kitchen nearby was ok and you could sit there and rest. You had shelter against rainy day :). Wifi was not available in room.
Review 30:Very good location (10 mins walk to Europa bus station). Helpful and friendly staff. Great value for money. Everything you could expect from a hostel (free wi-fi, laundry and drying rooms, kitchen, etc.)
Review 31:The bed room was a bit tight and so were the beds. The cafe down stairs looked promising but we wait over 15 min for a simple meal of eggs and pancakes, and when asked about it seamed to have been forgotten completely, waited another 10 min and when asked again were told it was "the next in line". After another 7 min asked for the money back and left hungry.
Review 32:Great location, perfect price and clean rooms. Welcoming staff
Review 33:We dealt with two staff members while we where there. One was not helpful and in fact made our stay worse, the other was tremendously helpful, kudos to him. The showers were big and roomy and coed... so couples were having sex in them, which seemed less clean than the usual hostel shower. The location was too far south and in a bit of a dirty area.
Review 34:The attached cafe was great for breakfast but not included (but affordable). Very close to Queen's University.
Review 35:have to use the wifi in the ground floor, people crowed in a small common place to use wifi without enough place to sit and chill.
Review 36:well equipped hostel with confortable bed and clean environment, good location with only like 5 mins walk from the great victoria train station, staffs are helpful, plus, this is the starting point where the giant causeway tour started.
Review 37:The WiFi didn't work in the room. The windows are pretty thin and I was woken up on all three mornings by a delivery lorry ticking over loudly outside first thing. There were just two plugs for four people, both of which were near the door. This was insufficient and inconvenient, as I was unable to charge my devices overnight once or twice.
Review 38:The location of the hostel if useful, being a short walk from the bus and train station and just ten minutes from the centre. The rooms are adequate and the basic facilities are all as expected. The cafe attached to the hostel was very good and the kitchen area was handy.
Review 39:Couldn't sleep a wink ... bunks creaked, no proper bedding, lumpy mattress, woke up to find I was the only woman in a room with 3 men!
Review 40:Friendly staff.
Review 41:The bathroom was a wet room which I don't like as everything gets wet. But this was big enough not to be a problem.
Review 42:The hostel was well equipped and managed. The room was large enough for a twin. About 10mins. walk from bus station.
Review 43:The guys that i shared a room with was kicked out shortly before 11:00 pm, because of noise apparently, no warning, n other arrangements made, felt bad for them.
Review 44:The hostel is well located, with free on site parking, room was clean, bathrooms not so much. The causeway cafe next door serves a very nice breakfast.
Review 45:I used vending machine!! I could not get my change!! I told it to a staff He couldn't help me!! Other points are good!!
Review 46:Clean Location Staffs
Review 47:When I arrived, the bedroom was a mess (it was the other guests' fault); The bed was not very comfortable and really noisy; Both bedroom and toilet had a strange smell; Wi fi only available at the reception (not in the rooms) and sometimes limited.
Review 48:Good location, next to Europa bus centre; The guy that stayed at the reception at night (Greg, I think) was really nice; Didn't have the chance to try the breakfast, but it seemed to be good (and affordable).
Review 49:The shower floor gets flooded easily and there is nowhere to put our shoes and towels and keep them clean and dry. Shelves would be helpful.
Review 50:The staff was very nice.
Review 51:The room doesn't smell good because of the restaurant next to the building. Switches are outside the bathroom, sometimes others turned off my light when I was using the bathroom.
Review 52:Friendly and helpful staff. Good price.
Review 53:The quilt is very dirty. It is very noisy during the night although they apply a quiet policy. We kept hearing loud talks from other guests. The sound insulation is bad and there are always annoying noises from the flushing of toilets and open/close of taps
Review 54:The staff is super friendly. The location is good to walk around.
Review 55:wifi is availible only at the reception area creaking doors in the room dirty and terrible smell at the kitchen inhospitable stuff
Review 56:close to the center city and railway station
Review 57:Beds were not very comfortable but adequate.
Review 58:Very close to downtown. Staff was very friendly and helpful. As my first stay in a hostel, it was encouraging.
Review 59:It's a hostel, not a hotel! But for that it's a great one.
Review 60:We liked the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Nice adjoining café with huge range of breakfast options, even gluten-free bagels. Rooms are sparse but clean and quiet.
Review 61:You really cannot complain for the quality of accommodation and service this price!
Review 62:Staff were pleasant and polite. The chill out area is great. The cafe and self catering facilities are great. Breakfast was cheap and very tasty. We had 'the Belfast' breakfast, the potato bread was out of this world. Mmm, struggled to finish it. The place was very clean and fresh and there is a lift to take you up to your room. You can stay out late if you like too which is a bonus. The area around the hostel is fantastic for takeaways, cafes and bars and things to see and do. We had to stay the night in Belfast and chose this place because it was cheap but we would definitely stay there again and are actually already planning our next stay.
Review 63:the beds weren't comfortable. they squeaked if you moved a little bit. bathrooms and toilets were separate from each other and the rooms.
Review 64:Location was good, staff were friendly and understanding, free wifi was good.
Review 65:Room was not cleaned. Towels not changed. No in-room wifi. Oddly enough, had to press and hold buttons to take a shower and wash hands or else water flow would be cut off
Review 66:Location.
Review 67:stay short enough to complain of anything relevant, think it was a good hostel for a quick stay
Review 68:for a short stay (1 overnight), had everything I needed: location near to bus station, kitchen to cook some meal and a comfortable, simple bed
Review 69:The facility smells bad everywhere. Shower rooms were inconvienence but reasonably clean. Toilets were filthy. Hallways and rooms smelled.
Review 70:The cafe in the lobby is awesome.
Review 71:Only 2 plug sockets to provide for 4 people. Difficult to charge phones overnight.
Review 72:Clean & in a central location. Great for the price 4 nights cost £56!
Review 73:Leaving my passport at reception for the duration of the entire stay -strongly disliked this. My first impulse was to just go to another accommodation. There was no soap in the room, so I had to buy one. Shower was wide open, meaning no cabin, so whole bathroom gets wet. No towel, but I have asked and given one at reception for free.
Review 74:Room was clean (I had single en-suite room), linens clean. Location is great - not far to the very core of the city, and around the corner to the lively Queens district. Reception people helpful. The café downstairs is pretty good, indeed- variety, service, price. But they only work in the mornings. Wi-Fi is good, but only at the lobby area.
Review 75:Our entire hallway backed on to a bar which I was not told off. So after 22 hours of travelling, I was looking forward to sleep and instead heard drunk guys outside shouting and laughing. Also, there was no free breakfst or coffee which was not convenient. Lastly, the wifi was dodgy and did not work anywhere except the small main lobby. This is very hard to deal with if you are trying to contact people to stay with or meet with. Overall, not very good and there are probably better hostels in Belfast. If you really need a bed to crash in and a shower, Belfast International Youth Hostel will do.
Review 76:The man at the front was very friendly and helpful. He directed me to the best places to eat out and have a drink.
Review 77:Toilets weren't as clean as I was expecting
Review 78:Friendliness of the Staff Bedroom was small but very cosy and clean! Security was definitely a very good point. After 10pm only people with a card would enter in the building. Bed was very confortable Location was great: very close from the city centre and bus station. It was very easy to find
Review 79:I could not access the library and leisure floor on Saturday evening even though it was during opening times. They request an ID at check-in and I gave them my passport but I did not know that they were not going to return it until check-out and when I asked the receptionist to replace it with other id he was a bit rude. They should not keep passports as they are the only id for tourists who should always carry them in case of an emergency.
Review 80:good value for money. Good choice of breakfast. Good sleep.
Review 81:There were only 2 plugs in a 4-beds room and none of them was close to the bed. Internet works only in the lounge where there is music all the time so quite difficult to talk in skype.
Review 82:The hostel is 10-15 minutes walking from the city centre. The room are not huge but it's possible to have enough comfort. Absolutely clean and the rules (no food after 11pm) make the hostel quite, especially in the corridors.
Review 83:Beds to high off the ground and very narrow. No electric sockets close to beds - a problem for myself as I suffer from sleep apnoea and couldn't easily use my CPAP machine - no extension leads available at the hostel
Review 84:The password system used for the wi fi was a bit tricky. Every time you disconnect you have to get a new password. That was a bit annoying.
Review 85:It almost doesn't look like a hostel. A lot of space and great location. Hostel's staff is very nice. There's also a tour agency inside (the guy from the agency not very friendly though) that offered a really nice tour to the most important places in the area for a great value for money.
Review 86:Our room felt like the heat was shut off and for wifi you had to be in a pretty small area!
Review 87:Staff was very friendly and made friends with other people staying there! Causeway cafe was a perfect way to start the day! Blankets were amazing!!!
Review 88:Shared rooms can be a nightmare depending on who is in the room with you. The shared bathrooms are most of the time dirty.
Review 89:cheapest option in the city, good location and gentle staff.
Review 90:Will give you roommates that are drunk. Kept me awake the entire night from snoring, for the two nights I was there. Asked for a mixed room and was instead put in a room with 3 drunk middle-aged to old men. The smell was horrendous. Asked to change room and was refused (nowhere available apparently). Overall a rough experience and I will not be coming back.
Review 91:Clean, helpful staff, excellent location
Review 92:Top bunks were difficult to climb into, the shower was not separate from the rest of the bathroom (no curtain or doors to stop water from spreading all over the bathroom)
Review 93:Good value for your money, when storing luggage for the day each piece was tagged with a number and staff removed it for you when you returned- this was a bit of extra security! Breakfast at the cafe was delicious!
Review 94:total lack of sleep.Had to put up with a heavy snorer,a guy farting all night and generator noise.Suspect I would have got a better night's sleep resting on a park bench outside Belfast City Hall
Review 95:Internet works
Review 96:Wi-fi could be made available in bedrooms also. Also the lights of the lobby were off after 11, which was a bit inconvenient, given that the wi-fi worked only there.
Review 97:The ambiance, safety and location was great. Staff members were kind and helpful
Review 98:Because of alterations and an old building lift out of action off reception and some plumbing problems which a couple of times made the air a bit unpleasant!!More cooking hotpoints that worked were needed in kitchen.
Review 99:David's sincere welcome and kind help especially perceiving individual needs of different individuals was appreciated.Sharing a dorm.bunk room was a new experience and variety of nationalities was facinating &very interesting.Diningroom staff very good, clean quick & very helpful-good value.A Happy experience
Review 100:This hostel could be the best ever. Unfortunatelly, the beds are not good. There are wires( not woods) holding the mattress and when you lay, you sink. It was really disconfort.
Review 101:Good location. Walking distance to train/bus station. Large kitchen, dining room. Good wi fi (only in the lobby) Good staff. A big thank you to Joseph to helping me with some tours.
Review 102:Shower - nowhere to put your clothes so they'd stay dry! (needed to change in there cos mixed dorm had no space for it).
Review 103:Suuuper-comfy mattress, lovely staff, not too far to the town centre
Review 104:We took Stenaline to Belfast port on Saturday! There was no bus service so we spent 15 pounds sharing a taxi to get to the hostel. It is near the city centre and Queen's University so it is very convenient for foot walking! There is a day tour you can book in advance to Giant's Causeway. It sets off from the hostel! Very good!
Review 105:Lots of issues with the bathroom. Some were without functioning lights or door locks.
Review 106:Great location and friendly staff. The community kitchen and cafe were a great addition.
Review 107:The building was worn. Wifi only available downstairs, mainly in the cafeteria.
Review 108:Phil at the front desk was #1! Easy to book day trips through company on site, or across the street. Large shower rooms. The kitchen was available most hours, and large.
Review 109:Very difficult to find, access the lounge and library. My card did not let me go to the 1st floor in the lift or open the door near the lounge. So complicated I would be worried about exiting if there was a fire. The library was one bookcase.
Review 110:Friendly staff. Good breakfast
Review 111:Loud noise from outside. There was sometimes hair left in the showers. Not enough for toilets for the number of rooms and beds per floor. The locker in the room should be bigger.
Review 112:Very convenient location especially if taking a Mc Combs tour. Very friendly and very accomodating staff. The bed was comfortable and other guests were nice young people.
Review 113:The cafe downstairs put serviettes under your food which is weird. Still can't figure out why that seems a good idea.
Review 114:For a hostel it was run extremely efficiently, courteously and well. Staff were friendly, offered storage for luggage I didn't need in my room, really good cafe for breakfast and positive atmosphere. Mad a regular traveller to hostels this one was a real relief.
Review 115:Excellent value for money, clean, well managed, safe and friendly atmosphere. Communal facilities, location of the hostel and on site cafe all really good. Highly recommend. Much better (by far) than other hostel in Belfast.
Review 116:Nothing at all.
Review 117:All fab, staff was helpful, cafe food was beyond delicious. P.S. the lady at reception should be Miss Northern Ireland )
Review 118:cleanliness of bathroom
Review 119:price
Review 120:Staff and cleanliness
Review 121:amazing facilities, situation easy to find, clean etc etc, well done!
Review 122:No plug for each bed 4 people share 2 plugs
Review 123:The cafe is good
Review 124:shower wasnt good
Review 125:Staff very friendly and very helpful
Review 126:just couple toilets. most of the time busy. Wifi only on ground floor
Review 127:location
Review 128:Easy going helpful staff, in a central location but not too busy part of town, cheap and clean accommodation.
Review 129:Perfect!! Cheap, cheerful, great location and free car parking!!!
Review 130:I like position and price
Review 131:Could do with more than 1 toaster(albeit 4 slot) and 1 kettle.
Review 132:Good sized kitchen and good pots/pans. 4 cookers.
Review 133:Room was congested still it was ok
Review 134:Affordable and excellent service
Review 135:the bunk bed too noisy when you turn you body over
Review 136:I like they have a self cooking kitchen 。
