Review 2:Friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you, nice room, great facilities incl. pool, excellent food and great value for money. Regularly use this hotel.
Review 3:The service in the restaurant was very poor on my last visit. I walked out after waiting 20 mins for the waiter to take my drinks order. He looked to do everything apart from take my order!!
Review 4:Good facilities and comfortable rooms. Nice food and service in the sports bar.
Review 5:Room very cold and heater not adequate. Breakfast chaotic and hot foodbuffet ran out of eggs and bacon and took ages for more food to arrive.Waitress finally took charge and took our orders at the tables and wewere served directly from the kitchen.
Review 6:Lovely room. Excellent dinner
Review 7:Limited food choices for vegetarian, bar snacks 2 options and sold out of one of them. Room service same main menu as bar snack so cheese and onion pie chips peas again. Being declined Pinot Grigio wine as not a member of the club and could not offer me members prices. Room overlooking inner court yard small, no view at all. Little atmosphere in hotel or bar areA
Review 8:Location, good for us.
Review 9:Nothing to dislike.
Review 10:The staff were great. Sorry but I cannot remember the 2 ladies names on reception but 1 lady with blonde hair that was the manager and the other lady had dark hair. Both of them were very helpful & both had a lovely manner about them. The hotel is very nice and very clean. Will definitely be back at sometime.
Review 11:Hotel rooms are a bit faded, but for the price the facilities more than made up for this
Review 12:the pool and spa facilities are excellent. The location (a golf course) is very quiet and my room was very quiet. Bed was comfy and the linen was good quality.
Review 13:Wow, hidden gem for the practical business traveller. Not much more than the Prem but with gym included .... and a Golf Course (1/2 price for residents)! ;-)
Review 14:Tried to get a drink at the bar but the young barman did not turn round, so i left after a few minutes
Review 15:The location and the room which was very comfortable also a good breakfast
Review 16:Well over priced, only thing its got going for its self is the golf and being a lovely to look at hotel ,but under staffed and in need of a bit of TLC .
Review 17:Being told we could not eat in the restaurant as it was fully booked, five minutes between us getting our starters, then told there was no cutlery, staff carrying chairs then all meals though the bar, having to ring a bell and waiting at the bar, having to go to our room for piece & quiet.
Review 18:Great setting.
Review 19:we had a very disappointing room, it was cold, musty, dark and smelly. We had paid £92 and even though we complained nothing was done. We have now sent a letter to the owner/manager as we require at least a partial refund.
Review 20:Afternoon tea was nice.
Review 21:Staff very helpful and friendly. Room very comfortable and attractively furnished - also spacious. Very nice pool (larger than many hotel pools and rectangular, supporting proper exercise), sauna and hot tub. Good range of breakfast items. Nice views over golf course.
Review 22:Really embarrassing at check out to have to explain to the receptionist that our bill was £20 over ( we had pre booked a £30 meal deal, however where given a menu choice with £20 two course meal that we both chosen,) felt very embarrassed about having to explain this in front of all guests checking out, felt I was being petty over £20 but I felt we were being ripped off. Especially as the bar prices are very very over the top - Won't stay there again which was a shame as nice romantic get away
Review 23:Spa lovely, food and service really good
Review 24:This is an older place--getting a bit shabby, though genteelly so. Our first room had plumbing issues. The one we were moved to was nice.
Review 25:Lovely location in the middle of a golf course. The hotel is a sprawling edifice.
Review 26:Bedroom looking tired and dated. Power shower 'box on wall', feels like a student house, not a luxury hotel. Breakfast fruit salad, prunes etc all looked lovely - were untouched as there were no bowls to eat them with.
Review 27:Burger in the bar menu was great. I used the swimming pool and enjoyed it!
Review 28:I upgraded through booking.com and paid for a deluxe double! In reality I received two twins pushed together rubbish...! Mentioned an uncomfortable sleep to the hotel they said they couldn't do anything about it and speak to the booking agent rubbish again service what service!?
Review 29:The spa access and amenities were good.
Review 30:The room was tired and the ceiling was ugly, old and dirty. It completely ruined the look of the room and was not in keeping with the class if the hotel.
Review 31:The communal areas were beautiful and well maintained
Review 32:The reception staff didnt give any information. When checking in they said room 1 and pointed. No directions on how to get there, no information about the hotel and its service, no information about the pre booked meal or breakfast times and locations. Very minimal staff at the evening meal meaning there was a long wait on taking the dishes away, ordering drinks etc.
Review 33:Room 1 we stayed in was lovely. Nice and clean, comfy bed and brilliant views. Food was very nice in the hotel restaurant.
Review 34:Our shower would not produce hot water. (With long hair a bath is really inconvenient) I mentioned it to the staff and was told it was very old plumbing
Review 35:Loved how old but with a modern twist it had
Review 36:Breakfast was dreadful and no one even asked if everything was ok, I mentioned this when checking out and women wasn't that bothered.
Review 37:The hotel staff were very pleasant and the room service was lovely.
Review 38:Looked a little tirer, could use a refrurb. Food stopped early and only option was a cold ham sandwich. Residents bar soulless
Review 39:Front staff and breakfast staff very pleasent
Review 40:Sunday breakfast disappointing as not ready to serve hot food from 8.00 probably as still sorting from wedding night before.
Review 41:Lovely surrounds excellent food in restaurant in evening.
Review 42:Felt the rooms were very tired and needed modernising. The room was cold and the mattress was very hard. didn't feel it was worth the money
Review 43:Location was good
Review 44:Wi-fi did not work in room which was in the extension, worked perfectly well in reception which was fine to check in for flight. Annex is tired and in need of re-furb.
Review 45:Very helpful staff, good location, flying from Manchester airport. Excellent gym. In annex although in need of refurb, room was very good, spacious and comfortable.
Review 46:Bed was rather hard and seemed small for a double bed. Room looked out onto courtyard which was a bit of a mess, weeds, plastic containers - this area good be made to look stunning.
Review 47:Beautiful place in wonderful surroundings
Review 48:The only potential down side to the hotel was that there is no lift, so make sure you select a ground floor room if you need one.
Review 49:Very friendly staff in a very impressive, clean well run hotel. The food was very good with breakfast served at the table, rather than the buffet style so many have now adopted. Good value as well.
Review 50:We only stopped a single night, to attend a wedding reception, locally and so cannot really comment overall. The hotel seemed to have been recently refurbished, although the door locks are pretty difficult to lock and unlock. I personally found the décor old fashioned and cluttered.
Review 51:Location was good.
Review 52:Excellent site for customers in Horwich and Blackburn. Good dinner or bar meals and breakfast. Swimming pool nice and golf course ideal way to unwind.
Review 53:Unfortunately no view from bedroom window only a wall. Lovely old building so bedrooms reflect this.
Review 54:Staff extremely helpful and service excellent. A relaxing and lovely setting.
Review 55:Absolutely nothing negative to say about out stay, everything as it should be, will definitely be going back.
Review 56:Hotel staff very welcoming, beautiful room, stunning views overlooking golf course. Room very spacious and bed comfy, furnishing and fittings very high standard. Evening meal excellent and staff very attentive and friendly, would definitely recommend.
Review 57:Not a professionally run hotel, just a golf club with some rooms. Fittings badly maintained and mainly cheap B&Q domestic quality. No aircon, so room unbearably hot even on a not very hot day. Staff didn't care about problems.
Review 58:We went for a swim on sat morning and there was a three foot lane left for us to swim in because the rest of the pool used for lessons which was disappointing
Review 59:Staff friendly, food great ,rooms immaculate ,over all great hotel.
Review 60:Breakfast wasn't fab! We were not allowed to serve ourselves. Bacon underdone to my personal liking. But a beautiful dining room
Review 61:The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 62:Didn't get to play golf , only there for one night passing through
Review 63:Staff were very good , friendly & helpful, room comfortable , the restaurant very nice & the food to die for .... Best roast beef I have had ! Wonderful !
Review 64:Not a bad experience but at no point felt pampered .not informed beauty salon would be closed on Sunday and bank holiday. Dirty and stained carpet in room could not walk about bare footed.
Review 65:Peace and quiet.even though a wedding was taking place.
Review 66:Rooms and corridors very old creeky and basic needs updated and freshened up...no drinkable water in rooms
Review 67:Rooms were very basic n old fashioned needs revamped
Review 68:Mostly excellent, but mattress was a little cheap and I could just feel the springs. Still slept well though.
Review 69:Pool, gym and bar food were all excellent. One of my colleagues had the burger, the rest of us still have food envy today!! I would go back again just for the burger!
Review 70:My room had no hair drier so I was forced to walk through two lounge bars to reception with dripping wet hair There was no ironing board in the room There was no shower cap and no cotton wool The plumbing was appalling turning on the hot or cold produced a huge spurt of water damaging my silk blouse The drains smelled bad There was no privacy-dirty vertical blinds with a broken chord so they could not be closed (I was on ground floor there is no sound proofing so at 5 am when the drunk in the room above went to the toilet I was woken I was lucky to get 5 hours sleep-all in all a horrible experience
Review 71:The staff were friendly
Review 72:Our room was extremely small and not offered a up grade. The floors board's were noisy.
Review 73:The surrounding area was lovely but inside was lacking the comfort.
Review 74:Free Wifi, was not working in my room, and I could hear the guy next door talking on his mobile till 11pm.
Review 75:Grounds, food and staff all excellent. Main bar was being refurbished but access to the golf club members bar was available. Room very well decorated and very comfy bed.
Review 76:Breakfast was an additional fifteen pounds each so we didn't bother The evening meals were very mediocre
Review 77:The rooms were freshly painted and refurbished
Review 78:My room was freezing and the bathroom was like the north pole , massive draught from the windows , radiator was barely warm
Review 79:Very pleasant staff and overall a nice hotel
Review 80:Nothing to write in here!!what an excellent Hotel
Review 81:The facilities, the staff, the excellent and peaceful nights sleep together with one of the best Breakfasts I have ever eaten in a Hotel.
Review 82:didn't get the relax and chill i wanted. cold room dry chips workmen in pool area with tools everywhere no cosy fire even though it was cold.
Review 83:The staff are so amazingly friendly! Nice grounds and nice area.
Review 84:Bar lacked a friendly convivial atmosphere. Location not particularly convenient.
Review 85:Spacious, comfortable room. Very good breakfast. Friendly & helpful reception staff.
Review 86:The hotel is outdated and our bed was very uncomfortable. The shower and bathroom really need an update in the two rooms we had.
Review 87:The staff and their service was great, location is good and pool and gym are great!
Review 88:The en-suite was clean, but just felt a little dated/tired.
Review 89:Pool and gym onsite were top quality, the catering was lovely and the building is full of character
Review 90:An adjoining room was very noisy for a short while in the small hours of morning, but that has been the case in almost every hotel I've stayed in. It sounded like they were rearranging furniture.
Review 91:Friendly & helpful staff in a lovely setting. Other reviews mentioned décor is dated, however everything seemed clean and some redecorating/updating was obviously in progress.
Review 92:The door lock was loose but we placed a heavy bag on the inside. The window didn't close properly causing an icy draught in the room hence the worst nights sleep I have encountered in a long time, informed hotel staff but no apology.
Review 93:Good food
Review 94:We were very well looked after throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Polite, friendly and attentive. We would definately reccomend this to others.! Excellent!
Review 95:Really enjoyed the Christmas party at Shaw Hill good food, good service and a really comfortable bed at the end of the evening. Breakfast good the following morning.
Review 96:Had a very nice stay. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Enjoyed the facilities. May visit in the summer for the golf as rained for the weekend. Heyho. Thank you
Review 97:My room (16) seemed to be under the cleaners storeroom and next to the stairs they used, so was kept awake until 3am by vacuum cleaners being dragged up and down the stairs and again early in the morning. Radiators in room had no thermostatic valve on so room could be either freezing cold or roasting hot with no in between. Premier Inn much better value and quieter!
Review 98:helpfulness of staff
Review 99:The room was really nice but found the Bed extremley soft so did not get a good sleep, but others may see this softness as a plus. I thought Breakfast was expensive.
Review 100:Had a nice atmosphere about the whole place. Areas I used were spotless and the staff were friendly and most helpful. The grounds are lovely. I attended a wedding and would say it is a lovely venue for this type of event.
Review 101:Bedroom small. Heater in bathroom was turned off but hummed all night .Couldnt open window cardboard wedged in gap either to stop rattles or to keep drafts out .For £93 it was not good value
Review 102:Nothing!couldn't find fault at all.
Review 103:Staff were exceptionally helpfull and friendly....in reception,at the leisure complex and bar.first class service all round.leisure facilities were spotless and very good standard.
Review 104:Still somewhat expensive. Not much choice of meals in restaurant.
Review 105:Great location, next to golf course with nice views. Restaurant food was OK. Quit bedrooms. Large parking.
Review 106:There wasn't anything not to like
Review 107:Great setting and grounds, superb for the wedding. Great wedding breakfast, lovely large bedroom and very helpful friendly reception staff..
Review 108:Our room was of a very poor standard and in desperate need ofrefurbishment. Feel that the website was misleading as although itmentions there are 3 varying types of rooms all the pictures were of thehigher end rooms. Did not get a good nights sleep which would have beenguaranteed at the Travelodge down the road had we booked there.Didn't feel our stay was the special occasion we had hoped for.
Review 109:The location and the building
Review 110:Some of the common areas a bit faded
Review 111:Staff were friendly and professional Pool and Gym very good Nice location Comfortable beds Impressive place, a big stately home Great breakfast - full English freshly cooked
Review 112:When we arrived back on the Saturday night after the wedding, which was offsite, we felt as though we were something of an inconvenience wanting to use the bar & lounge areas. One of our party was told she couldn't have a cup of tea, as the urn had been turned off earlier (not a single kettle anywhere in the kitchen?). Although it was late, we weren't rowdy or loud, we just wanted to sit & chat about our day. A small issue compared to the rest of the weekend stay, which was lovely.
Review 113:Lovely hotel, breakfast was lovely & plentiful. Pool & facilities excellent. Lots of space & plenty of different rooms to sit/relax in. Room was a good size for our family of 4 & the bed was lovely & comfortable. Although the bathroom fittings were a little dated, everything worked fine & the shower was hot & strong enough.
Review 114:First night we were told there was no chef in the kitchen despite having young children who were hungry and were made to wait ages while someone made some chips!!!
Review 115:Loves the grounds and the location. We spent one evening in the Vice Presidents Room which was lovely.
Review 116:Parts of the hotel were very dated and scruffy, clearly some money needs to be spent. Our room was very dated in terms of decor and furniture, peeling wallpaper scruffy doors but some of the rooms (at the same tarrif) were really nice -so it's pot luck what you get which changes the whole experience. The Night Poter wasn't very friendly/helpful. .
Review 117:Beautiful building set in lovely grounds. Some parts of the hotel were very elegant. Didn't get to use the pool but told it was nice. Friendly/polite receptionist.
Review 118:very dated hotel. not worth the high price paid. some of the night time staff were a bit off hand.
Review 119:reception staff were very polite and friendly. Liverpool barman was really helpful, he never stopped working
Review 120:We where in the little building next to the hotel and it was really cold, we where given a portable heater, but that was not safe to leave on all night or while out of the room, so when we came back it was very cold. Our beds where hard, pillows like rock. Our son was on a camp bed at the bottom of our bed, he kept complaining how he could feel the spring through it....unhappy 13 year old! ...not good!! I couldn't use the dressing table to get ready because the campbed blocked it and there was no where else to move it or no one else could have got ready! In the evening of our first evening we ate in the bar, the food took ages, simpe food nearly 40 minutes, we where told any time we asked for anything, relish on the side, a straw for childrens drinks...simple stuff, how busy they were there was other functions, only been there 6 weeks didn't know where things where. There was not enough staff on, they where all running around headless!! not a good experience. On returning from the wedding, granted it was late about 1ish there was about 20 of us wanted drinks, the eveing porter over te next hour could not have been more obvious he did not want us there, no body was load or overtly drunk, he would not even make a cup of tea for a couple of the ladies! This hotel obviouly does not need any additional revenue!
Review 121:The facilities and public areas where ideal for a large group, we where at a wedding near by and a lot of us stayed there. Ground are beautiful.
Review 122:I didn't like being told myself and my son could not eat in the restaurant as we didn't have trousers. This made us very uncomfortable. If the website had stated no jeans or track suits I would have taken appropriate clothing. The beds were very uncomfortable and small for the price paid.
Review 123:I really enjoyed the friendly nature of all the staff. The pool and jacuzzi were excellent.
Review 124:Second bedroom (Room 10 standard double) was at the back at the hotel had no view and was very small for amount of furniture and quite dark - not much natural light. However did not spoil overall stay at food is beautiful. Just wished for better room to make stay even better.
Review 125:Style of hotel and grounds lovely. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Views from one of our rooms (booked two) was great. Staff in all areas of hotel friendly and efficient. All areas inside and out kept very clean.
Review 126:The decor in the room really needs to be changed, the wallpaper was peeling off around the corners, carpet was lifting up and the door lock didn't work, meaning the room was always open. The bathroom was the same, very 80's style which was a real disappointment for such a grand old house.
Review 127:Very grand old building with amazing views over the rolling Lancashire countryside. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a charming receptionist and I was dealt with efficiently. I was surprised to be given a suite (considering the price) which was clean, had plenty of space and a big clean bed. The food was good, the restaurant was very quiet and I felt like the lord of the manor (well only for one wet night in August).
Review 128:Bedroom left a bit to be desired as it felt like you was position out of site. Room appeared to have damp around the window openings and the TV was the size of a postage stamp
Review 129:Good leisure facilities with good sized pool not the usual paddling pool. Breakfast was well catered for with a good selection.
Review 130:The room smelt of mould. The room was small. The simple pine furniture. The noise from the boiler room next door. The fluctuating water temperature of the shower. The mould covered ceiling window. The lack of windows to the outside. The overcharge on my account from another customer. £178 for one night stay including evening meal and one bottle of wine.
Review 131:The exterior of the hotel and the gardens. Initial impression on arrival was good. The service in the dining room was good. The overcharge on my account was settled promptly upon querying.
Review 132:Ordered a fillet steak, rare but it was more medium rare. Told by the maitre de it was rare and put in such an awkward position accepted this. I am not inclined to moan but this did not feel like the service I would have expected at this establishment.
Review 133:Cleanliness, swimming pool and excellent service at reception.
Review 134:Felt that the room was very tired and could do with some attention. the locking mechanisms on the door could do with upgrading 1 nr electrical socket needed attention. All minor items that were wrong or needed attention.
Review 135:Swimming pool was ace Restaurant was excellent - food was very good It was a very relaxing 1 night stay considering we were passing through. Golf course looked in great nick
Review 136:Beds small, I'm only 5'4 and my feet hit bottom of bed, mattress very hard so my sleep quality was very poor. But I appreciate not everyone's taste in mates can be accommodated, we have king size at home so adjusting down more than likely the issue.
Review 137:Room layout excellent Staff friendly Pool facility very good Grounds beautiful Breakfast excellent
Review 138:Close to M6. Spacious room.Staff all very helpful and courteous. Good food. Lovely building and surrounds . Leisure facilities excellent . Searched around on internet when couldn't get a motorway hotel....this was a real find and will definitely use again , in fact have already booked for next trip South
Review 139:The room was smaller than what we're use to,the bed was a bit hard and the shower was dangerous as you couldn't control the temperature. The water kept changing from cold to boiling!
Review 140:The leisure facilities ie: swimming pool, sauna jacuzzi
The Fine Print
Please note that this hotel has no lift.
