Reviews for Kings Head Hotel
Review 1:Noisy room. Room 218 above kitchen fans and dustbin men emptying bins about 5am. Why allocate this room unless hotel very full? Walk to parking area unusual
Review 2:Breakfast good. Staff friendly and attentive
Review 3:No condiments with room service (I am being picky!) also quite limited menu. As a business person, I work from my room a lot so having everything to hand is just essential.
Review 4:Great hotel, centre of town, room standard is great, clean, and modern.
Review 5:Bar and restaurant staff lack training and polish for a stylish hotel such as this. They appear to do their level best but I suspect lack sufficient training for hotel such as this one based on cost and appearance
Review 6:We lIked the stylish design in the bed room layout also the bar area was well laid out and relaxing
Review 7:The restaurant staff were absolutely incapable of serving restaurant guests, both at dinner and at breakfast. They were slow and forgetful. The food was inedible: we had the fish & chips for dinner which was a disaster (fish completely watery), unfortunately we had no apology or any offer to make up for it, when complaining about it. Breakfast was equally bad with tasteless food and slow service. Overall the restaurant was very disappointing! The hotel was still undertaking refurbishments in some rooms, which was never advertised or noted. The loud and consistent noises of scraping furniture along the floor and banging around could be heard all around the hotel and especially in our room. They were going on in the evening until late into the night which meant our relaxing weekend was completely disturbed and made unenjoyable. Unfortunately we wouldn't come back, even though it's a lovely location and as such a stylish hotel.
Review 8:The interior of the hotel was done in an excellent quality and design, very cosy and relaxing.
Review 9:One evening the maitre d told us there was no room for us for dinner and then as we were leaving changed his mind! I should have appreciated a short cut to the garage!
Review 10:All the staff were top rate, the room and the bathroom were faultless and the atmosphere throughout is professional and friendly. The location cannot be improved.
Review 11:Experienced 4 rooms within 24 hours of arrival. The first had such a loud bass drone of nearby electrical machinery I had to ring the night duty manager at 3.30am. He volunteered to transfer us immediately but couldn't pick a nearby room because it had the same problem. Finished our sleep in a lower standard room a floor below but at least it had barely any extraneous noise. Our remaining 3 nights were in a room upgrade but it too had an annoying permanent hum. I could 'cancel it out' in my head but this is not what you expect from a supposedly luxury hotel. By the way, none of this was due to each room's individual aircon. I always switch that off at night. On our first breakfast we were ignored, so no tea, toast or anything except the cereal we served ourselves. On the 2nd and 3rd breakfasts, teacups were served without teaspoons. We had to ask for teaspoons on both occasions. And for the 3rd breakfast we were told we could sit where we liked, and 5 mins later we were asked to move to a different table! Reminded me of Fawlty Towers. On our second full day our room wasn't cleaned while we were out. This hotel is all soulless corporate design style over content. The staff generally do their best and they're polite but they are inexperienced. Mistakes tend to go unnoticed. To be honest this is the worst stay in a hotel I remember for at least 5 years, and that was £90 for a night, not £200. The luxury here is superficial. A high-end B&B would do much better. And you might be able to park your car outside at no charge, rather than a 6 minute walk away for a fee (local authority's pay & display).
Review 12:The fillet steak in the New Year's Eve special menu was excellent.
Review 13:Facilities are poor, with no spa facilities outside of treatment rooms and hot tub. The latter of which, hotel guests have to pay £10 for two hours use, even with rooms at that cost! We booked the NYE menu and emailed requesting alternatives in advance due to pregnancy, which were agreed. On the night, each alternative came out incorrectly or not as agreed and our 'fun' evening was interrupted with constant chats to the manager. The dinner was average, at best and again overpriced at £120 a head for the quality served. We did note that they removed my meal from our final bill, which was the right thing to do but they should of said that at the time and apologised profusely. The service was equally poor with waiting staff bringing and collecting plates in a catered event kind of way, without engaging with tables individually. After being seated and waiting over half an hour for someone to come to our table, we flagged someone down to ask for a wine menu and to order some drinks. In reality this hotel is mostly style over substance, it has had a face lift but has a long way to go to match service and experience with that of its competition at a similar price point.
Review 14:The rooms are very nice, newly decorated with a warm ambience but overpriced for what they are. We paid £350 a night and for that you would expect something pretty special, which this was not.
Review 15:Our room had no bath and the log fires in the bar area were rarely working.
Review 16:The rooms were very well decorated, clean and comfortable. My only criticism was that our room had no bath - quite disappointing when paying over £300 per night. Also, the log fires were on only once in the three nights we tried to have a drink in the bar - again very disappointing.
Review 17:Beautiful renovated building - everything done well. The spa was so lovely, along with the treatment we had there. All the staff were great, food was good.
Review 18:Took forever to get a drink at the bar, restaurant was cold, food was nothing to write home about, service was generally slow, ground floor was just one huge "space" so it wasn't cosy at all
Review 19:Room was very good - nice and large, warm, lots of storage space, bathroom good too
Review 20:No parking onsite, compared to hotel across the Square which has its own lot, room on top floor required going up flight of stairs after getting off the lift, TV screen with keyboard for computer provided but didn't work, wifi not great., very loud restaurant on ground floor
Review 21:Location right on market square so on market day it is right in front of the hotel, room looked newly refurbished, nice modern bathrooms
Review 22:As always the food service lets you down. Had Christmas party their and the food was very bland and the service was all over the place. Twice before I have had dinner there and it has been let down by service
Review 23:Room was stunning and immaculate. Hotel Du Vin quality
Review 24:Overall our stay was pleasant, only let down by small things, particularly in the dining room. Tables not fully set - items missing on a few occasions. Waiting staff could be more knowledgable - although always polite.
Review 25:Newly refurbished rooms, large comfy bed. Nice 'buzzy' atmosphere in the bar and dining area. Staff pleasant although perhaps lacking experience and 'polish'.
Review 26:Restaurant service on a full capacity Sunday morning was slow - those in a hurry would go nuts. Overall needs a bit more polish for the price it charges (vs similar priced places we've staye)
Review 27:Very comfy rooms and lovely decoration / feel. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Great location right in the centre. Downside is noise from the market square
Review 28:Just one minor niggle. More coat hooks in the bathroom and bedroom would always be useful on the back of doors for hanging coats and clothes etc..
Review 29:A lovely hotel in a super location, and the staff were brilliant.
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:A wonderful hotel set in the heart of beautiful Cirencester. Couldn't fault the hotel accommodation, facilities, wonderful staff and excellent food in the restaurant. Can't wait to visit again!
Review 32:When we had showers the water went cold pretty quickly which I wasn't expecting from a 5 star hotel.
Review 33:The room was beautiful and very spacious. The bed was so comfortable and the staff were all really friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious with great service. We had such a lovely time.
Review 34:Room was lovely, spacious and very comfortable. Food, both dinner and breakfast was first class. Lovely surroundings and will be going back again soon!
Review 35:A lot of money and investment made to create a stunning hotel, but still after a few months of running the staff don't seem to either have the experience of training to achieve the standard ther hotels of this style would offer.
Review 36:The room we were allocated had nextdoors extractor fan outside it which went through the night quite loudly. Frankly that was nothing compared to the lack of service we received from the breakfast staff, practically had to beg for our toast which was cold when it arrived
Review 37:The room itself was spacious and clean
Review 38:PC connection via TV was not working and probably unnecessary unless you are travelling without a laptop or tablet. A dimmable night light would be nice (this applies to most hotels encountered on our travels)
Review 39:Ideal location for exploring Cirencester and our visit to Westonbirt Arboretum. Good internet connection. The bar appears very popular with locals.
Review 40:Breakfast cost seemed quite high and when you want little it seems too much to pay which made us look elsewhere.
Review 41:The room was fantastic with an excellent shower and the drinks menu in the bar was long and exhaustive. Love the fact that they accept dogs.
Review 42:We could hear the room upstairs kids running around at 8am and dog yapping for an hour while they were at breakfast. Also the only coffee in the room was the pods - but we only got 4 decaf ones and 2 normal ones a day.
Review 43:Great facilities such as the Spa and the Afternoon tea was great!
Review 44:Staff could have been friendlier and turned out a bit smarter.
Review 45:The room was lovely, but in hindsight having a city view was not great, especially as the market was being set up very early in the morning right outside our window.
Review 46:Restaurant overpriced with limited menu. Breakfast no more than OK. Car park access not easy outside office hours Window banged all night
Review 47:Room was comfortable and roomy. Bathroom facilities good.
Review 48:The facilities within the room were somewhat disappointing, the shower was cold and lacked pressure. There was no access to fresh air and the view was a building site of scaffolding. We had a kettle in the room but no milk or mini bar, other guests had milk and water etc.
Review 49:The location was perfect boasting a great bar with an extensive cocktail menu! We felt the room space was good and cleanliness was of a high standard.
Review 50:Excellent hotel with a perfectly relaxing atmosphere. We had a couple of technical problems with the TV and computer system in our room and the staff bent over backwards to get it sorted ASAP. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 51:Parking not ideal as none onsite so had to pay more to park 5 mins walk away. Surprised that after spending £250/night this wasn't part of an inclusive deal so had to pay again for breakfast, which was pretty average and I had to send back at one point. Also the bar downstairs wasn't great at night
Review 52:Great room, air conditioning, comfortable, staff were friendly
Review 53:Overpriced and misrepresented in their photos as boutique style hotel which it definitely not. Could barely get to the bar as its a haunt for locals to watch the Rugby. Spa wasn't fully working. Breakfast was a rip off and on both days they brought the wrong food. Didn't eat in in the evening as the restaurant is like a posh travel lodge canteen.
Review 54:Coffee
Review 55:We ordered wine to the room thinking the bottle was £8.50 in the menu however on check out we were charged £25. I do not know which is the correct price
Review 56:Well kept stylish Hotel at a good price :-)
Review 57:The beautiful huge bathroom had a "wet room" shower with an oversized shower head but no glass wall so the bathroom floor got soaked every time we showered. Looks amazing but not really functional.
Review 58:Great service, Romy at the front desk called a taxi to rescue me when I arrived in rain to find Kemble train station totally closed. Beautifully tastefully renovated hotel, sophisticated but relaxed. Great dinner and charming bar service. Good wine list.
Review 59:They should inform you of a noisy room location. Church bells chime every hour . Street sweepers every morning at 4:30am
Review 60:Great location except our room faced the street .
Review 61:Free standing wardrobe provided limited storage space. Standard pull out clothesline in bathroom for smalls not provided. Bigger pillow selection desirable.
Review 62:Consistently helpful staff. Modern conversion of an old building. Quality finishes throughout.
Review 63:The male staff wore tweed jackets and jeans which can look good however they just looked scruffy. Their jeans were worn and ill fitting, quite inappropriate in a lounge full of very smartly dressed guests.
Review 64:The bedrooms were beautiful and beds incredibly comfortable.
Review 65:Our room didn't have a great deal of natural light which meant applying make up was a precision task!
Review 66:Friendly and efficient staff who were keen to help when needed. Room very comfortable and pleasantly furnished in contemporary style.
Review 67:Parking is not at the hotel, however it would not put us off returning.
Review 68:Our bedroom was beautiful, lots of space and the bed and bedding were fantastic. The location is great, and the bar on a Friday and Saturday night was vibrant and fun. Over all its a lovely hotel full of character!
Review 69:Bit of a nuisance trying to park in their garage which is either a walk away or through shopping arcade and past all the bins during shop hours. Had to run back and forwards three times to get an entry card that worked! Not great in the rain!
Review 70:Great location, very central to town. Nice atmosphere in the bar at night. Good mix of old features of the building with modern feel.
Review 71:The 3pm check in was a little late but the staff accommodated me by allowing me to access the room before this.
Review 72:Beautiful room and lovely comfortable bed.
Review 73:Our room was nice enough, although we had one small window which over looked an ally way with scaffold and a broken Sainsbury trolly. Bathroom fan and Room Wifi didn't work. My thoughts of the £15 a night charge for a travel cot was excessive for a room that commanded a £250 a night price tagg...
Review 74:The Location was great although the parking is a pain.
Review 75:Parking: parking in the square was a maximum of 2 hours paid parking if you are lucky to find s space to unload bags. Long stay car park was about 5-10 min walk.
Review 76:We had an amazing room with a huge comfy bed, fab pillows (which, in our opinion, sets hotels apart from each other), a sofa & copper bath in the room, as well as our en-suite.
Review 77:Thought we were booking a much smaller hotel and missed the more cosy, friendly feel to the places we have stayed before. And I think because of this, we didn't feel like we were important or mattered to the staff, having been packed off to the back end of the hotel. I also think it's always a mistake not to include breakfast in the room rate.
Review 78:A nice town location, with nice rooms and a lovely dining room. However, a bit disappointed that we felt packed off to the back of the hotel in an average room with a tiny side window next to a neighbouring wall. It certainly didn't feel like the hotel was sold out and rammed with people, so not sure why we were dispatched right to the back and made to walked a long way just to return to the real world? Staff were friendly enough, if a bit formal, but it would have felt nicer for the obligatory questions to be less mechanical. On the plus side the evening dining was lovely and the menu a real treat and experience.
Review 79:Rooms poor. No proper wardrobe space, no drawers. No shaving mirror. No long mirror. Many things wrong, too long a list to include. Room service v poor. Restaurant staff very poor and rude.
Review 80:Good location but parking a real problem
Review 81:Poor parking!!
Review 82:The total experience on arriving at the hotel, from the staff to the choice of room, The restaurant and bar including the spa facilitates was excellent .
Review 83:Need to sort out card entry for private parking. Card entry was inconsistent and garage quite small and not easy to exit due to various cars parked just outside. Really small closet space.
Review 84:Hotel well decorated and fairly new fixtures and fittings. Breakfast very good.
Review 85:not enough hanging space in wardrobe for long clothes. Very bad that i was not allowed to open window and in the summer. shower heads too stiff and spray to fierce
Review 86:good bed and very clean
Review 87:Annoying having to figure out how to switch off tv-radio-computer, and air conditioning on a late night return. Instructions please! - we aren't all 30-somethings. Hopeless for arriving by car.
Review 88:Comfortable and convenient.
Review 89:Stayed for 3 nights for a local wedding. Poor facilities in rooms for hanging/storing clothes, few storage options generally. Very slow service in restaurant and room service - took an hour and a half to deliver a sausage and bacon sandwich to the room. Quirky, pleasant staff but not particularly competent. The hotel has great potential but is not yet delivering.
Review 90:Nice aesthetic, good sized rooms, nice bar area, centrally placed in Cirencester.
Review 91:Fantastic staff, not just waiting to help you, but actively trying to! Very friendly! Once they found out we were cyclists on a charity ride, they offered us use of the car garage to keep our bikes safe!
Review 92:Just needs more options of food for room service menu. Everything else was great.
Review 93:Brilliant place, attention to detail was great. Massive comfortable bed and a private roof area terrace.
Review 94:Spoiled only a little by a few "usability" issues in the room: a) Inadequate lighting in room only one beside light (impossible to read in bed or apply make-up at dressing table) b) The lights provided had dazzling bulbs, so gloomy overall but dazzling in use,,, b) Tea tray laid out in corner with nowhere to plug in kettle... c) Can't control bathroom lighting once inside bathroom... Management should spend some time actually trying to use the rooms themselves perhaps
Review 95:Beautifully renovated hotel in centre of Cirencester. Extremely nice staff especially in the restaurant.
Review 96:Shame about lack of mugs for tea and outside bin collection at 0630! (room 217)
Review 97:Style and size of rooms, facilities, history, great location, bar and restaurant, free fresh milk and water in fridge
Review 98:We had a nicely decorated room that had noises all night so we could not sleep. Staff did not communicate well. I would not stay in this property again.
Review 99:Cost of breakfast seemed slightly steep. Not in keeping with the cost of the other meals.
Review 100:The room as fantastic and the staff were polite and friendly
Review 101:Spa wet facilities not in use We had a baby with us which was mostly fine but didn't feel suitable for the restaurant even for an early dinner (but we were accommodated)
Review 102:Suite was stunning, spacious, very well furnished Breakfast excellent Very nice rooftop bar Spa very good
Review 103:Loved the location , the décor was so tasteful and calming colours all made for a tranquil room ..he staff were so helpful , the food was excellent ..will definitely be back .
Review 104:The receptionist at check-in was quite solemn and grumpy. There wasno 'welcome' at all, no nice comments, like 'enjoy yourstay' etc....The nice members of staff in the restaurant madeup for that. Also, it is a shame that there was no-one to help you with your bags. The lift did not stop at the first floor and we had A LOT of luggage!
Review 105:The hotel was great. A real little gem and value for money.
Review 106:Parking - no parking outside the hotel on a Sunday evening, instead had to park in pay & display car park at the end of town. Breakfast - £18pp for breakfast was too high.
Review 107:All hotel staff were friendly and helpful, decor was good and bed was very comfy. Evening dinner was delicious, but concept pretty confusing and not necessary.
Review 108:On arrival I went to enquire about the spar facilities, the member of staff was quite condescending so as a result I didn't book any treatment.
Review 109:Excellent room very clean. breakfast was very good along with the service
Review 110:The staff were helpful and friendly and the rooms were very nicely organised and decorated. The room service food bags are a great idea and very quirky.
Review 111:The whole hotel is noticably newly refurbished; all the room facilities were new and useful. Decor was fantastic, the bathroom and shower were very nice. Would happily stay there again!
Review 112:We were really looking forward to our breakfast but things went from bad to worse- not so much the quality of food - once we received it! (Has to ask twice for someone to take order!), first they forgot my coffee, then gave our toast to the neighbouring table, and people who arrived after us got their hot breakfast first despite ordering it about 15mins after us! Staff sadly didn't even apologise! Plus we were disappointed they didn't replace things like orange juice when ran out (an hour before breakfast due to end!)
Review 113:Our room, although a long walk from the stairs & lift, was very comfortable & decorated really nicely & of course its in a great spot if you want to be in the centre of town, apart from the parking (or lack of it!)
Review 114:There wasn't anything I didn't like, if I had to be ultra picky the wait times at reception seemed a little lengthy, but not anything to detract away from a great experience.
Review 115:The hotel style was elegant and sophisticated and the room was an excellent size, spotless and furnished to a high standard.
Review 116:Staff seemed not to fully know what to do e.g. The coffee machine broke and spilt on ground in room so we rang to let them know so they could clean it early, however nothing happened. We arrived late first night and had to call the 24hour reception several times for room service. Hot tub in spa was broken and area was extremely small.
Review 117:The old castle look to the various areas and the room was nice.
Review 118:I did not expect to eat in the restaurant with our dog, however, when I asked, they would not allow me to eat in the bar area after 6pm - (as they do not provide food in bar after 6pm) I had looked forward to eating at the hotel!! also the room was not well placed - we booked a superior king and this was over the top of the cooking vents - really poor and noisy -
Review 119:the location the room size the bed the bathroom size the towels and bathrobe
Review 120:Possibly work a deal with the long term parking lot--- especially for international customers who might not be used to the pay and display system or at least offer up details on a card when checking in. Possibly consider s valet option as well. The kettle in the rooms are difficult to use since they are connected to a big piece that needs to be pulled out of the closet to use. Our stay was beyond our expectations but those two little things, ease of parking and ease of using the kettle were the only things that came to mind as needing a better solution.
Review 121:What a comfortable, lovely stay in the center of Cirencester. Loved having our own private espresso machine and complimentary bottled water. Very helpful staff, very cozy and modern rooms. Would highly recommend it for a weekend getaway to enjoy a short break in the lap of luxury.
Review 122:The bed was a bit soft for my taste, but my friend loved it.
Review 123:My friend and I stayed at the King's Head Hotel over the recent bank holiday weekend. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was gorgeous. We were put in the Library Room, which was lovely. Huge room with lots of books and records (with a player!).
Review 124:Our room, 220, was directly above the kitchen so the kitchen ventilation system could be heard quite clearly until 11pm and then again from 6am. This meant we did not have the best nights sleep after a long day driving through the Cotswolds. The staff were good about this and offered us free breakfast in the morning however we would have preferred to be transferred to a new room when we mentioned the issue at 10:30pm so we could have had a proper sleep without being woken at 6am.
Review 125:Very well appointed hotel, spacious and clean rooms in the centre of town.
Review 126:The lift wasn't working (which does seem to be a bit of an occurrence) - so quite a trek on the stairs particularly with cases!! Breakfast quite expensive - it was fine but not fantastic. Parking was not very easy at all.
Review 127:The room was a good size and was clean. Staff were generally very helpful and were friendly. The location of the hotel was lovely.
Review 128:The quality of the hotel decoration, fittings arrangement of rooms, furniture, staff service is all absolutely first rate. Its location is very convenient in the centre of town, only drawback is the lack of free parking, but that is a minor issue and would not put us off staying there again.
Review 129:Lift wasn't working which was a real pain as we were on the top floor and had a baby in tow. Staff helped us cart luggage though which was great. Dinner menu could have a few more options. Called room service once and didn't get an answer.
Review 130:Comfy room, nice decor, quirky feel
Review 131:Car parking arrangements were not explained and we had to get up and go and buy a ticket for the car park before 8:00 am the next morning Strangely there was no wardrobe in the room. Unfortunately lift was out of order and we were on the top floor
Review 132:It's a really nice hotel. Very stylish and comfortable. Great location. We liked it a lot apart from the few hiccups added to the What didn't you like box
Review 133:We asked the staff if it was safe to park outside a shop, on a Sunday. We where told yes, 20 mins later we got a parking ticket. You need to wake early every morning, walk to the car park to feed the meter (okay if you don't want a lay in). Meet and greet staff met us in jeans and trainers and has no local knowledge. Such a shame as the place is beautiful but hearing everyone moan about the poor service has put us off from returning.
Review 134:Looks amazing and great location.
Review 135:Breakfast was not great and the gadgets in the room were hard to use. The radio came on at 3am and we could not figure out how to turn it off
Review 136:Decor is great and service was good but the breakfast was not great for the price of the room.
Review 137:Stayed on top floor and lift out of order however the beautiful room made up for it.
Review 138:The room and facilities were amazing. Bathroom was gorgeous and so luxurious
Review 139:There's no parking. The wifi didn't work. There was rubbish left in the corridor. The lift was broken. The aircon was so loud I couldn't sleep. There was no room service. The bar staff and restaurant staff were so rude and condescending that I walked out before being served and ate elsewhere. I complained and was promised a call from the manager; this never happened. Overall, this was an awful experience that left me utterly exhausted and unprepared for my working day the following day. I would never, ever return and I recommend that others also avoid this dump.
Review 140:The décor was very modern in the room.
