Reviews for The Orchid Hotel

Review 1:Nothing.

Review 2:Have stayed at the orchid a couple of times before, buy not since it has been updated and what a difference. Would recommend it to friends and will be staying again in the near future.

Review 3:The only complaint we had was that the room we stayed in (117) had a draft from the firedoor opposite and the windows inside. It was very cold at night which made our 2 nights very unpleasant. Even with the thermostat on full temperature, the room never seemed to warm up. Apart from that our stay was excellent.

Review 4:Staff were very friendly, clean hotel and very close to the heart of Bournemouth. Very modern and good parking facilities.

Review 5:We live 4 miles away and treat ourselves to an overnight stay on new years eve, found hotel excellent in all ways. Probably book again next year.

Review 6:cooked breakfast wasn't the best, everything seemed to be thrown in a deep fat fryer

Review 7:Warm and friendly welcome, nice décor, close to town centre, clean

Review 8:Recently refurbished to a very high standard, the hotel offers fully air conditioned accommodation with completely new Furniture and Furnishings throughout. In an excellent position for Shops and Theatres. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Review 9:In the process of being completely refurbished and whilst this did not adversely affect our stay it would have been nice to have been informed of this upon booking. Some noise at breakfast time associated with works.

Review 10:Good location, close to town centre but far enough away to be quiet

Review 11:Nothing at all.

Review 12:Very spacious room. Lovely staff. Decor very impressive from the renovations.Extremely comfy king size bed. The tastiest breakfast we've had. Definitely go back again.

Review 13:The hotel is lovely and rooms all modern and clean. The hotel informed us of a function on the Friday night which was not a problem as we were going out for the evening. However we feel having the bar open 24 hours is not good as when we went for breakfast on the Saturday morning there were still people drinking and being very loud which is not to be expected. Saturday morning's breakfast was also in a different room to were we had it on Sunday morning. On Sat night there was a lot of noise from people running in the corridors and shouting and banging doors this was about 2.30 am. The room was not cleaned throughout are staying and we had ask for tea milk and toilet roll.

Review 14:The breakfast is fantastic

Review 15:The uninvited traveller guests on the Friday evening

Review 16:The decor, although the quality of the workmanship was a little lacking, the breakfast, location, friendly staff and the bed was amazing

Review 17:So clean and tidy,it's starting to look very nice and will look better when all the work is done thank you for a great stay.breakfast was very good.

Review 18:Bedroom although stated was deluxe was plain and lacked any wow facture. The view from our window was awfull rubbish and a skip.

Review 19:The decor in the public areas was lovely. The breakfast was good.

Review 20:The room was a deluxe twin but it was quite small. The music from the party being held downstairs which finished at 12 midnight was very loud and could easily be heard from our room and kept us awake. We were tired as we had been travelling since the early hours of the morning. I would ask if an event was planned during the stay as this would make a difference about staying at the hotel.

Review 21:The Hotel is starting to look very nice with the recent upgrade. Nice and contemporary. The shower was lovely and hot in our room and the breakfast was very nice. Location good for seafront and town. Parking could be a bit tricky.

Review 22:Whilst we understood there is still work going on there were building dust piles left in places that could easily have been dusted or swept up. The staff were very accommodating but they could look a little smarter

Review 23:When complete this hotel will be lovely. At present it is partially renovated and the updated parts are very tastefully done. Our room was functional and nicely decorated. The atmosphere was good and breakfast was great.

Review 24:Very attractive decor even though it's not yet finished - it was and will be an extremely congenial hotel. The staff really went out of their way to make it enjoyable.

Review 25:Shame due to refurbishment the outside looked scruffy and skip taking up parking space. Group of staff smoking outside car park in view of guests wasn't pleasant. Disappointed that there wasn't old school milk in bottle in room as stated on website. Kettle in ridiculous place steamed up mirror and glass shelf. The restaurant was unavailable with no prior notice which, was particularly awkward as relying on it to eat after long journey and being diabetic. Had to have an emergency slim fast and my sister went hungry as had no time to go anywhere else. The super fast Wifi was useless waste of time had better faster connection in club went to that night.

Review 26:The room was spotless, ensuite lovely, bed very comfortable. Nice could park onsite. Breakfast was good apart from bacon over cooked for personal liking. Staff very pleasant.

Review 27:No really bad experiences but there were a few details that could be improved upon. There was nowhere to hand or dry wet towels in the bathroom, there was no information or instructions in the bedroom, particularly to work the air conditioning / heating (eventually worked it out after about half an hour of trial and error!). If you are going to supply a Nespresso coffee machine, supply Nespresso capsules rather than some rather inferior (and presumably cheaper) clone types which weren't very pleasant.

Review 28:Very pleasant if brief stay. The staff seemed friendly and welcoming. The room was recently refurbished and wll decorated. The bed was very comfortable..

Review 29:The view of the roof wasn't particularly exciting, but you're not going to get great views in that location so really was no bother. The location and nice room was what we wanted and what we received.

Review 30:The orchid hotel has clearly been recently renovated and they've done an excellent job! The decore is really very tasteful. Also the beds were so comfy we didn't want to get up in the morning, but glad we did as the cooked breakfast was also excellent.

Review 31:the room was cold even with the air con on at full temp @29 degrees - it just seemed to pump out cool air. the toilet flush got stuck - room 102, for about an hour which stopped after me fiddling with it for a while,

Review 32:staff and accommodation and breakfast, all great, 10/10

Review 33:Our room was above the bar which wasn't a problem apart from we could hear the music but it didn't affect our stay.

Review 34:Furniture and decor is high quality! We had a deluxe King room which was lovely and the bed was so comfy.

Review 35:The staff were extremely friendly. The room was fantastic, both clean and comfortable. Breakfast was one of the best we have had and a beautiful room to have it in. Would definitely visit again and recommend it to other people who are looking for a place to stay in Bournemouth. Not a bad thing to say about this hotel!

Review 36:reception area was like a buidling site floor tiles being laid plaster dust ever where. Restaurant not open breakfast very slow 20 mins from sitting down to being served.

Review 37:room was very nice

Review 38:No restaurant. Lots of dust as renovations not finished. Towels weren't great.

Review 39:Fab beds friendly staff great atmosphere pretty courtyard garden and convenient location. Bedroom was large and comfortable.

Review 40:hotel is still undergoing Reno works which makes it awkward to move around.

Review 41:Our room had been renovated and was clean good size. When the works have been completed it will be a nvery nice place to stay. Good value at the moment.

Review 42:Lovely spacious room, amazing staff, nice breakfast and very quiet hotel.....rooms have been refurbished and look stunning. Beautiful lounge area and nothing seemed to be a trouble.

Review 43:The hotel was having a complete refurbishment and their were dust sheets everywhere and people painting. I could not find reception when I arrived. I felt I should have been informed that the hotel was being refurbished.

Review 44:The bedroom was clean but sparse no telephone . The room had recently been decorated.

Review 45:The restaurant was very warm when eating breakfast, was quite uncomfortable. However breakfast was tasty.

Review 46:Very pleasant hotel, was having the final stages of work being carried out so smelt of fresh paint and had a small area in reception cornered off. Room however was clean, modern and well decorated.

Review 47:The hotel was in a very good location, the staff were always friendly and happy to help if we had any questions. The room was very clean and the beds were also comfy.

Review 48:The room I initially booked... Very dated and the bed was uncomfortable, however very clean. Although this was not an issue due to the free upgrade. I would spend extra to ensure one of the better rooms as they are fantastic.

Review 49:I was given a free upgrade which was very kind. They are currently undergoing refurbishment, but it didn't affect my stay. The refurbished areas and rooms are BEAUTIFUL, clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly, even making me my own breakfast as it was before their set times.

Review 50:The building work made the reception area - hopefully that's short term. Bournemouth traffice even on a Saturday was pretty bad

Review 51:Excellent quiet room (make sure you get a room overlooking the courtyard). Good breakfast, walking distance of town centre with loads of parking - and a petrol station nearby

Review 52:Not really a dislike. The hotel was in the throes of redecoration. They were in a hurry to get this finished as on the day we left, they had a wedding being held there.

Review 53:The room was excellent. We think it had just been refurbished.

Review 54:As returning customers there is nothing from the hotel for our continue custom, I understand the hotel is under going a refurb but our room was one of the smallest we have ever had, we were told we were complimentary upgraded to a new room but we were not impressed, the previous rooms had speakers and a lovely modern feel where as this was not great, considering we had an upgrade I would of loved to of seen the room we were supposed to of had!

Review 55:We have been to this hotel about 7 times as have previously loved the hotel

Review 56:Only negative would be hotel currently being renovated which may not appeal to some guests. Construction noise wasn't a factor but very dusty in lobby area.

Review 57:Hotel one block from sea front and easy walking distance to town centre. Very pleasant staff. Breakfast good. Room very clean and modern. Located on quiet residential street.

Review 58:The only downside was that they are in the process of refurbishing the hotel - saying that I will definitely stay again as the work was of a very high standard and I want to see it finished.

Review 59:Lovely room, newly decorated with lovely furnishings and a gorgeous ensuite. Will definitely visit again.

Review 60:How can an hotel organize a wedding party without telling the customers??? We booked two rooms and we had to go down to the reception 3 times during the night to ask for less noise !!! Children running and shouting everywhere; drunk adults screaming under your windows and empty bottles all over the place.. We couldn't even access the reception to get our keys!!! And no need to talk about parking places!!! Definitely not a place to stay on a Saturday!!!

Review 61:The view from room!

Review 62:Stayed for 4 nights with our three year old son. We had a newly refurbished family room, only thing poor was the view onto a brick wall! Room was a good size, beds were comfy and facilities in room were good. Bathroom was lovely and clean and shower was excellent - breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Close walk to amenities. Staff were helpful and friendly and refurbishment work didn't affect our stay

Review 63:The receptionist was so helpful and pleasant. Our room was fab and spotless, all newly refurbished, bed so comfy. Breakfast excellent. Hope to return for longer next time.

Review 64:The hotel was half weight refurbished so the main entrance and bar were not usable. The staff dealing with breakfast were not organised and keep forgetting who ordered what. Also they should tell you when you book that the hotel is in such a estate, I would have never booked it if i would have known.

Review 65:The room was fully refurbished, nieely done and comfortable, breakfast was really nice.

Review 66:The room was very tired and dirty, there was no hot water and the hotel was dusty due to the building works that was taking place! Too noisy due to building works

Review 67:There was building works going on pretty much all night, whilst it wasn't very loud you could hear it. The hotel reception was a building site, not made aware of that prior to booking.

Review 68:Room was very nice

Review 69:It said the hotel had been newly renovated, and it certainly was. When we arrived it was like a building site and they continued to drill and saw past 11pm at night, which was unacceptable. There was damp on the ceiling of the bathrrom and the decor of the room was a bit below standard for the price. At breakfast one of the staff was quite rude and tutted a lot. She seemed annoyed that we had come in the wrong door, although it was the obvious door to come in when coming from your room and there was no sign to tell you otherwise. They brought us the wrong breakfast, serving someone else, who arrived after us and weren't particularly helpful.

Review 70:The position of the hotel, comfy bed and the actual breakfast which was good quality and plenty of it.

Review 71:Toilet was too close to the wall, kept bumping elbow, no towel rail in the refurbished bathroom (?) it's a total building site downstairs and the lift is out of order so heavy bags were a mission to get upstairs. Hardly any rom to put cases in the bedroom.

Review 72:Lovely receptionist , comfortable bed, good breakfast and reliable wifi .

Review 73:Refurbishment taking place which brought down scoring but looks like there is upgrade to higher standards so I hope it is one for the future

Review 74:Modern room

Review 75:The communal areas were very dusty from the building works that were being undertaken and some we had to make our way through workmen every day of our stay which was not ideal

Review 76:The staff were extremely accommodating especially as the hotel was in the middle of a major refurbishment

Review 77:Everything above

Review 78:Nothing it was a real mess dirty nobody cleans the room souch dust on top of the wardrobe and on the lampshade a horror in the bathroom not enough space for the toilet and tv strapped with the belt to the bracket a sideboard hanging off the wall not mention dirty carpet and lamp on theoddle of the headboard so could kill yourself in the middle of the night and two single matresses on the double bed no help from the reception the most horrible hotel we have ever stayed in

Review 79:We had to wait over half an hour for the cooked breakfast which was very small when it finally arrived. There was very little alternative only cereal and a small amount of fruit.

Review 80:The room was very comfortable and stylish. Location was excellent.

Review 81:The property is undergoing a reservation (something that isn't advertised), as a result of this many rooms are tired and unclean. The reception staff were extremely rude and made excuses for every flaw and problem. Out of the 6 rooms I booked 4 of them were off very poor quality and did not warrant £100 for one night. We were also made to feel very unwelcome as we were a hen group, however they have had the details of my party for over a month and have at no point contacted me to say such groups were not allowed.

Review 82:The refurbished rooms were of good quality and cleanliness. The breakfast was lovely.

Review 83:Although I overheard staff on reception advising potential guests that work was being carried out in the hotel, there is no warning when you book online. In fact quite the opposite. The website is very impressive and even announces the opening of the food hall in September. In fact, the hotle was mainly a building site and noisy. The main bar was closed and thus no real atmosphere. Wifi was not always efficient and the rooms were subject to building dust. Not once was I offered a complimentary drink or any discount for the inconvenience. I actually came away feeling taken advantage of.

Review 84:The staff were very friendly and I think that when refurbishment is complete it will be one of the best Bournemouth hotels in its class.

Review 85:The hotel is under renovation during my stay and there was a lot of noise during the day and the lobby looks messy due to the renovation. In addition, it was advertised that the hotel has free wifi for each room, but my room did not have wifi coverage.

Review 86:The staff is very friendly.

Review 87:There is nothing to indicate that there is building work going on so it was disappointing to arrive to a building site. The room was also very small for a triple room and for £145! When trying to run a bath a lot of dirt was coming out of the taps so I would advise against that!

Review 88:We requested an early breakfast and the night porter was great!

Review 89:The Hotel was being re-furbished and did look a bit odd, but this was explained and the rest of the hotel was in good order.

Review 90:The room was nicely decorated and fresh looking. Also it was only a short 10-15min walk to the town centre. So did not need to bother with the car or finding a parking space.

Review 91:The rooms were very tired and dated and did need some TLC very much, but in saying that bed was comfortable.

Review 92:Considering they were under renovation work the staff worked very well and this did not disrupt our stay at all. What they have done so far looks very impressive and we have said that we will all come back in the New Year when it has been finished to see for ourselves the outcome of all their hard work. Breakfast was wonderful by friend decided to have the omelette it looked amazing (huge). Perfect!!

Review 93:Rooms that have not yet been remodeled - avoid these and you'll be very happy.

Review 94:The newly remodeled rooms are gorgeous and very comfortable. 'Standard Room' means not yet remodeled - do not book this room, we had this for our first night then were moved to a 'new' room - night and day difference! The old room is the only reason it's not 5 stars for me, and wifi only in public areas but that's not a major hassle. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the front desk staff especially were absolutely lovely. One slightly grumpy server in dining room but not bad enough to complain about, all of the others went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. Would definitely stay again, loved it!

Review 95:Only draw back they was having building work done but wasn't a problem

Review 96:The hotel was lovely great breakfast the area was good close to the pier and beech

Review 97:Our room which had not yet been refurbished was in a very poor state. However we paid a supplement to be upgraded to another room which had recently been modernised and this was a far better standard.

Review 98:Considering the refurbishment that was going on all over the hotel our stay was quite enjoyable with very little disruption. Staff on reception were excellent.

Review 99:Minor teething troubles with refurbishment. Poor wi-fi access if you're not near the reception desk

Review 100:Always clean and comfortable. Breakfast is excellent

Review 101:Having to come home ;-)

Review 102:The room was the best we had stayed in all holiday. The food was excellent and the staff did really well even though renovation work was still going on.

Review 103:Staff very friendly and helpful room clean and bed very comfortable. Breakfast very good and served quickly. Only short walk to beach and good to have free parking.

Review 104:Location very good. Easy walking distance to restaurants and town centre. Friendly and helpful staff. Second night dining room under our bedroom used for a party disco and d-jay, finishing at 1.00. It was so loud and noisy couldn't hear tele in our room. We were moved to a bigger room at the front of the hotel. Could only have this room for the one night so on our 3rd and last night as another party going on we were moved again to another room which was lovely and quiet. Staff did their best to help us and for that we were very grateful.

Review 105:Hotel under refurbishment, not mentioned on web site. Noisy skip deliverys, banging and sawing. No WiFi at all, charged 3 different prices for a pint by 3 different staff. Rooms clean but worn and tatty, bar half built. Would not have booked if i had known building going on, poor show by owners not to disclose on site.

Review 106:Nice breakfast and dining area

Review 107:Poor bar and bar area dirty with food under the table and down the wall which was not cleaned off in the 3 days of our stay

Review 108:Decor being undertaken is looking very good

Review 109:Poor wifi connection from my room Very little space for you knees between toilet and wall

Review 110:Plenty of parking Nice foyer and entrance Friendly staff Nice breakfast with plenty of options

Review 111:Absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel.

Review 112:By far the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on! Gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfast and wonderful staff! Had an amazing stay.

Review 113:reception staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Location excellent too and breakfast menu had plenty of choice ; I had smokes salmon and scrambled egg.

Review 114:Breakfast on Sat was cold scrambled egg had a very strange taste sausage not cooked. We went our Sunday for breakfast. Monday breakfast better full English not boiling hot but all was cooked. The omelette was hot and tasty. Unable to get internet but staff did try to help.

Review 115:The room we were staying in was spacious newly decorated king size bed and good sized room. It was very comfortable and clean. Staff really helpful.

Review 116:the rain

Review 117:from arriving to departure the friendliness of the entire team of staff was outstanding. location very good for the town seafront and restaurants. the breakfast was excellent plenty of choices. The room was lovely and had just been renovated as will the whole hotel soon.nice lounge to relax in at night or anytime.good free car parking, there is work being carried out in the daytime but this did not effect our holiday. we will be going back soon. thank you for a great stay

Review 118:Bedroom shower hotel reception staff Could not do enough for you well done the orchid

Review 119:The staff from the management down were all fantastic the receptionist were all gold standerd you cannot fault this hotel was over the moon with the service we had there

Review 120:Although we quite understand the renovations and decorations have to be done, the smell of the paint was off putting.

Review 121:Convenience of location. The parts of the hotel that have been renovated looked very good. We will probably stay again to see if the finished article is as good as what has been completed so far.

Review 122:Bed was uncomfortable, the breakfast was not the best and could hear traffic going by in room.

Review 123:How clean our room was, and staff were always pleasant and cheerful.

Review 124:None

Review 125:The over friendliness of all the staff and the help they gave to my husband who had a leg in plaster , after a fall , made our holiday a great time.

Review 126:Our room wasn't the best. It was very tatty. Although the bed linen etc was clean, the valance on the bed wasn't and the chairs in the room were stained.

Review 127:Location, staff, free parking and breakfast were great

Review 128:The room was old and tired. It was pretty shabby and not clean. There was no information in the room about anything! Windows did not close properly, a rickety wardrobe, and no drawers in anything. Bathroom also poor, tiles cracked, gap between tiles and bath etc. Dusty also. Overall very disappointing.

Review 129:Location was close to the beach and the town.

Review 130:Hotel Room we had was a little tired, however the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and the areas we saw that had been completed looked fab! but they do need to refurbish the rooms too.....

Review 131:First Class Breakfast, polite a friendly staff...

Review 132:The overall room cleanliness was somewhat lacking ..also had to put the blinds down a lot due to the ongoing redecoration to the hotel. the bathroom was not up to scratch (extractor fan didnt work ..causing mould in places)

Review 133:The breakfast selection was very good ..plenty of variety and healthy options too.

Review 134:Building work going on, breakfast was terrible, had to wait 10mins ti be seated, then waited 30mins for breakfast and it was incooked & cold. Wouldn't stay there again.

Review 135:The towels were very small, bath sheets would have been better. the building work was, on occasions an annoyance but the hotel will be fantastic when finished.

Review 136:The room was recently refurbished to a very high standard and was clean.
