Reviews for Stirrups Country House
Review 1:Wheelchair users could struggle if totally dependent on chair. Call before booking staff very helpful.
Review 2:Warm welcome. Accommodating staff. Wonderful bar/food. The Ascot Suite very comfortable.
Review 3:My room had a musty smell, expensive breakfast at £12.50, average bathroom and right on the side of a public road, opposed to being out in the country as the description suggests.
Review 4:Good value, staff were friendly, food was nice
Review 5:My room was above the bar so a little noisy however l Always travel with my ear plugs so it didn't keep me awake, might have been a different story had I not.
Review 6:I arrived late and left early in the morning, so did not get the opportunity to use all the facilities at the hotel, room was nice and spacious and warm
Review 7:Forgotten about my earrings which I left on the dresser. Called up and not only did they find it, they posted it back to me free of charge. The room and everything else was also perfect.
Review 8:We arrived late afternoon and were welcomed and shown to our room. The room was excellent very clean with a beautiful bathroom. There was plenty of parking in the lovely grounds.
Review 9:On this occasion we found the bed as hard as rock which spoiled the stay a bit-sorry
Review 10:Very clean, good sized rooms, beautiful gardens, plenty of parking, ideal all year round retreat.
Review 11:We arrived at the hotel after a stressful journey. The hotel staff put us at ease immediately and were very helpful. We ate at the hotel in the evening and the food was excellent.
Review 12:Totally forgot about my food order 1.5 hrs waiting, then it arrived cold, arrived in room toilet not flushed and had to ring for towels reception did apologise but i was still upset.I went out in the evening returning v late noone told me the doors would be locked and i would have to stand outside knocking for over 10 minutes to try and get back in, I was greeted with sorry we were short staffed. I was told the hotel manager would call im still waiting 3 mnths on !
Review 13:Beautiful setting arranged as a treat for myself after a stressful year
Review 14:could not look out of the window due to view on kitchen chimneys hotel was not fully booked so why not give us a better room
Review 15:nice restaurant beds comfortable clean hotel
Review 16:Didn't see the majority of the grounds, as it was restricted access, may have been due to the wedding.
Review 17:Lovely room, and staff were willing to help with all inquiries.
Review 18:None, just a wedding reception taking place and people drunk, otherwise I just kept to myself and stayed in room.
Review 19:It is close to Lego Land, staff very friendly and value for money, especially when you are on tight budget.
Review 20:-The first night the food was really terrible, especially the Caesar salad that had pieces of raw, silvery fish in it. Anchoies don't look like this. The service was very slow. It should not take 2 hours to have a salad. -Bed was too small and very hard. The room was not as represented on the Internet. It was missing a twin bed. That was why we booked the room in the first place, to have a second bed because the standard queen wasn't large enough for us. We are very tall people. Staff took £10 off when we checked out, so that was nice. I wouldn't have booked Stirrups if I believed a queen bed was all that was available. -the room was over the kitchen. When we opened the window, all we got was the kitchen odors blowing up through our window.
Review 21:Staff were very nice and very helpful Beautiful grounds
Review 22:Nothing really. The breakfast was a little lack-luster; coffee not very good. Rather strange, since dinner on the previous evening had been so very good
Review 23:Comfortable hotel in a good location, not far from the M4. WiFi was good and easy to access. Room decoration nice, but a little tired, could do with a refurb. The restaurant was superb 10/10
Review 24:Minor problem (soon rectified) was bath water from a shower did not drain away - plug was stuck fast.
Review 25:Comfort of the bed - Location a bit out in the country but the grounds it was set in superb
Review 26:Breakfast price £12.50 !!!
Review 27:The location was fantastic , to walk around the grounds you can lose yourself in the moment. The food was very good , nice for two people , breakfast could of had a little more 1 sausage 1 bacon ? But on the plus side eggs how ever you want them :)
Review 28:Menu choice was slightly limited but the quality of the food was excellent. Atmosphere was slightly lacking despite it being fairly busy and the lounge is seriously flawed being the wrong side of reception and completely cut off from the rest of the hotel
Review 29:Room was excellently presented and was clean and fresh. Bar and restaurant service was excellent
Review 30:Hated the one pillow on the bed, too small and way too hard. 2 pillows of varying thickness would have been nice so you could use one or the other or both depending on your preference. Made for very uncomfortable sleeping.
Review 31:Our room was lovely. Loved the decor and furnishings.
Review 32:Service for dinner was quite sliw and starter was forgotten.
Review 33:The location is perfect. The country feel laid back from the road. A lovely setting surrounded bu beautiful gardens.
Review 34:Comfortable, clean and good value for money. Staff were excellent particularly in the restaurant where Greig is worthy of particular praise for his excellent attentive service and very pleasant manner.
Review 35:was a bit disappointed that the cost of the breakfast was not included in the room as most hotels are
Review 36:we enjoyed our stay as was made to feel very welcome
Review 37:can think of nothing at all thats negative about this hotel.
Review 38:We have stayed at the the stirrup country house hotel before, and look forward to many more visits. For us, its home from home, with attentive staff.
Review 39:We really liked everything and thought the hotel was great value.
Review 40:We particularly liked our adjoining rooms which gave us lots of space. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay again at Stirrups Country House.
Review 41:Damp, damp & damp! Converted conference room or private dining room extremely damp in July? Complained and given blankets to cover sheets to sleep; no discount offered for a bad nights sleep?
Review 42:Ease of moving cases.
Review 43:Nothing was negative, except perhaps the price. Even with quite a discount through booking.com we thought it too expensive for what you're getting. Must be the Windsor location?
Review 44:Looks great and very comfortable. Nice food. Close to Lego Land, so we might still be back here if we return to visit there.
Review 45:Terrible traffic noise almost all night: strong smell of smoke permeated room from smokers outside especially in early hours of morning
Review 46:Relaxed in lovely surroundings very helpful staff
Review 47:Room stuffy and air con noisy and directed flow on the bed coupled with uncomfortable bed meant a poor nights sleep.. Booked a room with a bath but only had a shower which was very small
Review 48:Being walked in on by the cleaner as she thought we had checked out - Lucky I was only about to get in the shower. I'd like to point out that this was at 9.30am!!!
Review 49:The grounds are stunning the house is very nice too, the bar area to the front facing the gardens could do with a bit of an update but there is another paved area with table and chairs outside which is lovely. Nice clean rooms and the staff were very friendly and accomodating. I would recommend this place to young families would are going to legoland as its very nearby.
Review 50:TV limited and wouldn't remotely switch off. Restaurant costs a bit pricey albeit the food was excellent.
Review 51:excellent staff, smooth arrival. food excellent and all worked as is.
Review 52:No bad points to mention.
Review 53:We stayed just for 1 night whilst meeting friends in maidonhead and going to legoland. We arrived to friendly staff members and a gorgeous room. The beds were VERY comfy and the room spacious. The bathroom was big with both bath and shower cubical. All very clean. What I liked best was a small but lovely touch, they'd left an activity pack on my sons bed for him.
Review 54:Efficient staff and booking in procedures, comfortable if a little plain bedrooms with all the conveniences you need, good location for M25/M4/M3. Good restaurant and breakfast
Review 55:Room 203 The way how the receptionist lady tried to play down the quality of first night sleep with noise from vibrating fan in bathroom and noise from radiator as well.
Review 56:Room 115
Review 57:Stirrups Country House Hotel is a lovely family run concern, the antithesis of impersonal hotel chains. Staying at the hotel is a very relaxing, easy experience with a super twin bedroom for my daughter and me, free wifi, easy car parking, good food and friendly staff. Will return to this very English country hotel.
Review 58:Christmas menu still in guest book...... Bathroom note re economic washing, slipping off bluetac. ( I put back) Very little toilette paper on holder, which instead of being changed for a full roll, had just had a triangle fold put on... Tv ariel conection loose, ( I remade the connection ) small things, but these make the big impression
Review 59:Friendly helpful staff
Review 60:Rather unimaginative lemony paint scheme seems to be widespread!
Review 61:Size and comfort of room, refurbished bathroom nice towels, toiletries etc Good food and range of drinks
Review 62:A little noisy at night as there was an evening function. It was good that prior to our trip we had been warned and offered a quieter room.
Review 63:The lunchtime function food was brilliant. as were the staff.
Review 64:No gym, wifi is unstable at times, location makes you order cab anytime you want to go somewhere.
Review 65:Really liked cuisine, surprisingly intricate menu and great quality (bravo, chef). Pricey, though. All other things in the hotel are good, no problem with anything, and value for money is excellent comparing to what you got on the neighborhood
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:I could just say everything! My room was beautiful. The furniture looked brand new and I found out it was! Staff were very friendly, especially Matt, who I had a lovely chat with. I shall certainly be staying here again as I come to Ascot quite often.
Review 68:My husband & I ordered the ribeye steaks, when brought out mine looked like something you would by from a cheap frozen shop & looked nothing like a steak! It was about a cm thick & tasted like pork, I had asked for it medium but it was a white colour inside & was chewy, I told the waiter & he returned it to the kitchen. The young manager came out & tried to Palm me off with the fact that the kitchen staff were stressed as they had 2 functions on & a busy restaurant, I told him that was not my problem & that they could get my husbands right He offered me a glass of wine to compensate but then informed me that the wine I was drinking they didn't do buy the glass so he gave me a cheap house wine , but his attitude stank! He needs to be trained on customer service. When I eventually got my steak it was rare & chewy!! If the kitchen can't cope then get more staff or don't cater for so many people at once, considering I was paying £22.50 for my steak I would expect to be treated a bit better!
Review 69:Apart from the young rude manager the rest of the staff were brilliant, the room was lovely & the food we had on the Friday night was excellent. This was our 2nd stay & just as good as the 1st
Review 70:Nothing.
Review 71:From the moment that we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome. I have stayed at many hotels and have never been made to feel as welcome as at The Stirrups. Thanks to all the staff. Will definitely use again if in the area.
Review 72:Although the staff informed us that a wedding was on which was decent of them, it wasn't mentioned that our room was at the front. People were milling around under our window smoking until 1am and then started again at 8am, I slept poorly and was exhausted the next day. The breakfast did not live up to the standards of the evening meal. I have had very good breakfasts at other places that I have stayed at, there should be beans and or potatoes, very odd not to have either, which left me hungry. They do have pastries etc but I didn't find them filling either.
Review 73:The bathroom was pristine, and I was pleased there was a bath and not just a shower, nice quality toiletries. The evening meal was of very good quality. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We were there for a wedding and the meal and later on a buffet were good.
Review 74:The staff were very helpful and the hotel was very clean. Stirrups is very accomodating to families and children. Our room had fully made up extra camp beds, welcome activity packs for the kids and plenty of extra towels. It was also spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel was such a short car ride to Legoland, it was perfect.
Review 75:Avoid room facing front car park as was very noisy first thing in morning with people talking. By early I mean 5am through til 7am. There was a wedding at the venue so not sure if guests still up!
Review 76:Breakfast was excellent & friendly staff
Review 77:Bad smell in my room and in hallway upon check in.(Smell of drains) Reported this to reception who said they would send someone up with air freshener. This never happened. TV in room did not work at all. Asked for travel adapter plug at reception, was charged £7 for it even though the price shown on package was £5.50. I questioned this and was still told I had to pay £7. Poor customer service.
Review 78:Breakfast ok
Review 79:Breakfast was slightly overpriced
Review 80:We stayed at Stirrups country house hotel on Monday evening. The gentleman on reception was fantastic, I had somehow managed to book a twin instead of a double and he kindly offered to swap the room for us, as well as booking us a table for dinner. The room was comfortable and spacious. The service we received from the friendly gentleman on reception really made our stay - thank you!
Review 81:My only issue is that the hotel is on a road. We live in the depths of the countryside so we found the road noisy but that pales into insignificance compared with the planes from Heathrow. But that's an issue with all Thames Valley hotels.
Review 82:The hotel was very efficient. Before the stay we were alerted to the fact they would have a wedding party during our stay. I think that was good customer service. The room was a good size and immaculately clean. We would stay again.
Review 83:The inconsiderate guests next door, early hours of Sunday morning we were woken up as they banged their doors, and you could hear their conversation and swear words which spoilt our sleep and our stay.
Review 84:Location, food was excellent, room was well appointed and clean and nice views.
Review 85:Even though it is good value for money, it would have been nice if there had been breakfast included within the price.
Review 86:The hotel was well priced and good value for money. The staff were lovely, and greeted me with a welcoming smile as soon as i walked through the door. Answered all my questions with no hesitation. Rooms were clean and spacious and the beds were comfortable and easy yo sleep on. Overall, well above what I expected from a 3 star hotel.
Review 87:1- That I only stayed for 1 night! 2- (What I would like better, in person!:) That the WiFi connection was 4 times as fast, reason: I live the "Laptop lifestyle" and so make money with my Laptop(!).. What I (Totaly!) understand is that I'm 1 of a few.., already living like this!.. :-)
Review 88:I like (very much!) The: Food, Staff(YOU Babes totaly ROCK!!!), Cleanliness, the bed(!), Bathroom(!), space of the room, overal Kindness.. etc etc.. IFF... > You(!) stay in the eria, go to this "Hotel", I(!) give MY word that you WILL like it a LOTT!.. Best Itentions but just being FAR(!), Dave..
Review 89:bedroom was a bit on the small side. it was reasonably cool during our stay but I would imagine room could get quite warm in the summer (no air conditioning) however, these are very minor points compared to the "likes"
Review 90:restaurant is excellent - It was very busy when we were there (despite many rooms being taken by guests at a wedding in the hotel) This did not affect service or quality but would recommend pre booking The grounds and setting are gorgeous and you wouldn't know you were so close to London and all the surrounding attractions Hotal staff are all very friendly and helpful
Review 91:The staff at the hotel were very friendly and made us very welcome. They made sure we had all the information we needed. The room was a family room and it was a lovely touch to find activity packs for the children. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant which was also child friendly providing a child's menu with a good choice of meals. The food was freshly cooked and tasted good.
Review 92:The room was not very clean. Dust cirkled along the floor when I pluged in my charger as well as back side of the TV. My room had window back with views on the roof and chimney! Very dirty! The bathroom smell a lot of food from the kitchen!
Review 93:The dinner and breakfast was very good!
Review 94:Some traffic noise from the nearby road when the windows are open.
Review 95:Service friendly, helpful, prompt and efficient. Food excellent. Public areas and garden attractively presented and well kept. Bedroom very comfy and private. Nice view from the room over the side of the garden.
Review 96:We arrived after a long hot day at The Farnborough Air Show and received a friendly greeting. The room was at the top so we were concerned about the heat as no air con. but it was fine and a fan was provided but we did not need this. The bed was comfortable and we had tea and coffee making facilities. The main thing I noticed was that there were plenty of mirrors that actually had lights over them so I could see to do my make up.! So many hotels have dark rooms and are useless. Also the hair dryer could be plugged in next to the mirror. This may sound like a small thing but it makes getting ready so much easier. We ate in the restaurant and were greeted by friendly staff and the food was excellent. Good portions, well cooked. I had the salmon steak and my husband had the burger. The grounds are wonderful and we sat outside in the evening with our drinks. I was a little surprised that the hotel is right on the road but this didnt make any difference to our enjoyment. We would definitely go again. Also there is a wonderful garden centre opposite the hotel which is a must to visit.
Review 97:I travel extensively and the room was priced at £140 for what could only be described as functional rooms which felt quite jaded. The tv didn't work and was relatively small and attached across two wall in the corner, a most ridiculous position. It's also on a relatively busy road and quite noisy. We had to have a free standing air cooler as no air conditioning. I think 'Country House Hotel' is really not accurate. It's more if a country pub with rooms and expensive at that.
Review 98:Close to my meeting
Review 99:Absolublty perfect in every way prob the best accomodattion we have ever stayed in! We had a beautiful four poster bed in a very large suite with views of the most pretty gardens, this would be a perfect wedding setting! Food was very tasty we opted for the a la carte menu which was delightful and breakfast was very tasty. I'm very fussy and have high standards and stirrups passed on every single level! Stirrups should be 5 star recommendation based on our room and experience!
Review 100:We were pleasantly surprised. The accommodation seemed more than a 3*. Stylish, clean and comfortable. The grounds were lovely, with a nice pond.
Review 101:There was an inability to alter the temperature in the rooms as we found it uncomfortably warm
Review 102:The staff were very accommodating and the hotel was very clean, we always came back to redone rooms each day. The food was very good and it had a nice atmosphere
Review 103:the slight confusion over our bill as we were charged for our friends room although they had already checked out but this was very quickly rectified. But this did not change our opinion of the hotel as a whole.
Review 104:lovely country hotel with friendly staff including the night porter who let us in and served us late drinks. The room was very clean and well presented as was the bathroom. very impressed considering only a 3*. All in all a very pleasant experience and would deffinately book again if in the area. Also must mention the gardens which were so well kept and a joy to walk round.
Review 105:Having to go home!
Review 106:Booked to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. Nice location. Very comfortable room. Restaurant service and food were excellent. Made an ideal base to explore Windsor. We were contacted prior to our stay and given the option to change rooms due to a function taking place at the hotel during our stay. This was very much appreciated.
