Reviews for Gales Of Llangollen

Review 1:This time we stayed in room 12 and was absolutely lovely. The only downside was that after a long day travelling, we were in bed by midnight but were woken 2 or 3 times by other guests on the stairs as room 12 is literally on the stairs. We do appreciate that this can't be helped but will probably ask for a different room next time. This is not a complaint.

Review 2:We have stayed at Gales before and will definately stay again. The staff are really friendly and bar staff are very good with wine choices etc!

Review 3:Loved staying at this family run hotel. On arrival I was offered a better room as they had had a cancellation. The room was lovely with antique furniture to complement the age of the building. The bed was really comfortable and the white fluffy towels were excellent. There was even a pretty little decanter of port as a welcome drink. Good choice of tea coffee etc and even the biscuits were quality, stem ginger or oat rather than the usual run of the mill kind. It is certainly an hotel to which I'd return.

Review 4:Wifi was weak on the third floor. Shower was a bit half hearted. Cooked breakfast was extra and not inclusive.

Review 5:Great central location and a comfortable room that was spacious but cosy. Ideal for wine buffs. Hotel with personality.

Review 6:Shower was small and not very powerful.

Review 7:The laid back atmosphere and the food was outstanding from breakfast to evening meal. Large selection of wine for every pallet.

Review 8:Car park quite tight and untidy, poor continental rather than a "proper breakfast".

Review 9:Super attentive staff, excellent location, near to all Llangollen's amenities, quiet room, great en suite.

Review 10:Shower / bathroom could really do with a revamp. For such a lovely place, the slightly trickily shower / overly long shower curtain was a little bit of a low point.

Review 11:Great location in Llangollen - with a fantastic restaurant and wine bar (make sure you go when its open!) Giant fluffy towels!

Review 12:Entrance untidy and a little confusing.

Review 13:Central location, close to shops, bus and heritage railway station.Good free continental breakfast. warm towel rails ,Large flatscreen T.V.

Review 14:"Continental breakfast " is a joke.i am dutch and I know what to expect. No fresh bread, no pastries,no boiled eggs, only a few slices of ham and only one cheese.

Review 15:Nice central location

Review 16:good location and car parking . very well run with helpful staff and interesting menu for dinner witha good breakfast. The dinner was one the tastiest we have ever had.

Review 17:The hotel was really lovely only I found that the pillows was very hard and the bed tilted down to one side, I also felt that sometimes I was sharing a room with other guests as there is a 4 inch gap from the floor to the door, noticed all doors was like this so you could hear everything from the other rooms but I suppose that is part of the quirkyness of the hotel

Review 18:Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic, very central, plenty of pubs near by. Rooms itself are lovely decorated

Review 19:We had booked for two nights but due to a member of the family being hospitalised at home we had to leave after first night, the owners of the hotel refused our offer to pay for the second night which we are extremely grateful for, will definitely be returning, thanks again

Review 20:A read the reviews about the toilet being to close to the wall, and that the bed isn't the most comfortable the reviewer slept in, but even though I agree on both counts, I don't thing it should deteriorate from the experience of staying at the hotel.

Review 21:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. There also is a Resturant on site, we're we choose to have supper. First of all, most of the resturant's costumer's were locals, which is always a good sign. Secondly, I have allergenic issues and the chef accomadated me gladly, and most important it is the best food we ate during our trip to wales. The hotel itself is beautiful, not fancy, but very nice, and old fashion in a nice way, and romantic.

Review 22:The Breakfast option only includes a continental: if you want a cooked breakfast it will cost more.

Review 23:Really friendly and welcoming, excellent shower, lovely food (dinner and breakfast), very central

Review 24:Bit dated , could do with a refresh , I do know the building is old , but a wee up to date refurbished would help Also if you want a cooked breakfast you have to pay for it , but wasn't the best of breakfast anyway

Review 25:Great wee wine bar

Review 26:not good reception for wifi. not much car parking area.

Review 27:Old and traditional surroundings, quirky. Very comfortable and high standard of cleanliness. Tea making facilities. Would make return stay. Very convenient in centre of Llangollen.

Review 28:Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities that we would expect. The location was convenient and central. The welcome drink was much appreciated.

Review 29:Our only problem was getting our Volvo station wagon in and out of the parking area which was behind the hotel. The owner came and moved the car out to the street when we were ready to leave, which was greatly appreciated.

Review 30:The room was great. We had supper in the restaurant and it was very good. We had the continental breakfast and it was good as well. Gales is located right in the middle of LLangollen and we left our car in the parking lot while we walked around the town.

Review 31:Breakfast was continental . Could have full cooked breakfast , but was an extra charge . That was the only disappointment

Review 32:Very clean . Friendly , helpful staff . Close to centre of town .

Review 33:Awkward step in ensuite but nothing otherwise to cause concern.

Review 34:Convenient to town centre and from my point of view, public transport. Very comfortable room with large tv. Wine bar/restaurant served good quality food in an efficient manner. Good breakfasts although cooked breakfasts charged separately. Friendly staff.

Review 35:Breakfast could be improved a bit. A bit ordinary, in contrast with the quality of evening meals. A very rubbery fried tomato! My room was great - v comfortable but I felt the bathroom decor and fittings were getting very tired and not quite up to the standard of the rest of the place. Poor shower cubicle.

Review 36:Wonderful menu and food on both evenings. Exceptionally tasty cooking. Fish perfectly cooked. Great range of wines. Very friendly service. Nice bed, very spacious room

Review 37:The one small negative was that the bathroom door didn't shut properly. That really was the only issue.

Review 38:We loved the cosiness of the room & the bed was very comfortable. We also liked the fact it felt quiet despite being busy.

Review 39:We did not like having to go outside across the car park to get to the dining area

Review 40:The room was large with a comfy double bed also the traditional cooked breakfast was very good plenty of toast and jam

Review 41:Small nigles that did not spoil our stay ; soap containrs in bathroom empty and no mirror in bathroom.

Review 42:very quaint property. Owners were really nice and very helpful.

Review 43:Being over 6ft created problems with the length of the bed and low doorways, but nothing a tall person wouldn't expect in a building of this age, did not deminish the trip.

Review 44:Staff were friendly and helpful but didn't interfere too much so you could enjoy yourself, rooms were clean and practical and seconds away from the centre of Llan.

Review 45:Limited parking spaces with difficult access (my BMW 320 only just fitted though the entrance and then there were no spaces). The breakfast included in the price was a very poor continental breakfast with no croissants or bread rolls. The manager at breakfast time was rude to several guests including ourselves after we didn't order a cooked breakfast (£7.95 extra each). Very hard bed (room 14). Thin walls.

Review 46:Central location Complimentary port in room

Review 47:Nothing really

Review 48:Friendly staff. Lovely spacious room and a comfortable bed. Location is right in the town. Breakfast offered was fine. We did not have dinner here but the restaurant looked to have a decent evening and lunch menu. It would be easy to miss this as a hotel from outside but through the gateway there is a decent parking area and the entrance to the hotel behind the shop. Llangollen is close to many local sights and scenery and there are several bars, restaurants or hotels within easy walking distance. Recommended. Would book this hotel again.

Review 49:Could have done with an extra pillow in the bedroom, but feel foolish even putting that, it was great all round.

Review 50:Thought the staff were great and the food wast fantastic, stayed a few times and will keep going back, it really is a great place.

Review 51:Having to pay extra £7.95 for a cooked breakfast. This was the option if you did nor want continental.. cereal, toast, ham and fruit!

Review 52:Comfortable stay and staff very friendly

Review 53:We arranged this trip for a celebration. We arrived on a Sunday evening, looking forward to an evening meal in the restaurant, to be told by Richard the owner that the restaurant does not open on Sundays. We discussed our options then he said "come and join us at my house we're having a party, you'd be more than welcome". We were taken to the party and enjoyed a most wonderful evening with friends of Richard. We won't forget that evening!

Review 54:Hotel was busy so parking was a bit of a lottery.

Review 55:Just about everything. Not your usual hotel but the rooms were homely. Food at breakfast and dinner was very good. Staff were most pleasant and helpful. Wine was unsurprisingly excellent and inexpensive.

Review 56:I thought I booked with a full English option was only given the continental but that may have been my error when booking. Has car parking but meant double parking with other guests and leaving keys etc...not a problem just caused my boyfriend a little anxiety re his car getting knocked etc.

Review 57:Very old building, with all the quirky features that goes with that..unlevel floor tilting cupboard low ceilings etc! bed very comfy and host really nice helpful bloke nothing too much trouble.

Review 58:The bed I had is ready to be replaced (room 5 I think). At least since I was one person in a full sized bed, I could find a comfortable corner and then slept fine despite early misgivings. (My mom's full sized bed did look brand new and she was very very comfortable). The other furniture is very pretty but not very functional. Closet door sticks, drawers don't slide. Wasn't a big deal for us but could be for others.

Review 59:Very accommodating. As I was traveling with my mother (and neither of us young), I appreciated that at check in, they immediately volunteered some help getting our luggage up the stairs. The room was huge! And very comfortable. I enjoyed sitting in a stuffed chair reading while my Mom was resting on a couple of occasions. There were plenty of towels. On arrival there four sets for the two of us and we found other sets in the drawers. Every day we would find four new sets. It provided a lot of amusement. Loved the older building, clearly has been a coach house with rooms for centuries! Lots of history, yet the plumbing is well updated!!! Great location! We were traveling on public transport and very easily walked (with luggage!) over from the bus stop! Was also central for exploring Llangollen. :-)

Review 60:We liked everything.

Review 61:Everything was perfect, a friendly welcome, beautiful , comfortable rooms, complimentary carafe of port, and a bistro with fabulous food just down the stairs. Beds were very comfortable and luxurious.

Review 62:Excellent food drink and service in bar/restaurant but slightly pretentious 'fine dining' aspirations which some people like but I don't.

Review 63:Location, comfort.

Review 64:It was all good!

Review 65:Really comfortable room, great food, excellent service, good parking, great atmosphere, a great welcome from Richard and a fair price. Best stay we have had in the UK for our month so far.

Review 83:stairs were tough to carry luggage up as room was at top of building
