Reviews for Tyrrells Ford Hotel

Review 1:It is very dated, the food and the breakfast have not been updated for a while. The shower is a power shower, which is always disappointing. The bed was comfortable but it was a single bed (I also booked a single room, but often there is a double bed in a single room).

Review 2:I liked the characteristic location and the ambiance in the hotel.

Review 3:The shower is lacking in pressure, which is a bit annoying if you have hair! As rinsing takes a while, but its all very clean and tidy, with lots of fresh clean towels.

Review 4:The staff are very friendly and really make you feel welcome. The bar area is excellent, as it is like a real 'pub' bar - not like a 'hotel' bar, which we find much more relaxing. The choice and range of food from bar snacks to main courses is very good indeed, literally something for everyone. We will return!

Review 5:Very old and tired decor, furnishings and bathrooms. Our room was like a sauna and the shower was very poor and old fashioned.

Review 6:The staff and the position.

Review 7:I just wanted a quiet meal and bar was busy with all the locals, most of whom were noisy. I know that sounds grumpy but it was tough to get any peace. Wifi not good.......signal very weak throughout.

Review 8:It's a nice enough hotel. Has some character and a wee bit different than most. Friendly family and you can see how hard they work.

Review 9:The bathroom was nice but the shower flow could have been a bit better. No menus for the restaurant on the hotel website which was a bit strange.

Review 10:Nice room with plenty of space. We didn't use the hotel restaurant but the staff were still happy to recommend other local places to eat.

Review 11:A long wait to check in, sewage smell as you walk to your room, tired and poor décor, large cobwebs and unclean facilities. Very tired - dining hall wallpaper stained and peeling off AND FAR TOO HOT all night!!

Review 12:A lovely old Manor where we had our wedding breakfast. The lounge is historic.

Review 13:The premises, too much old furniture in the reception/rest area. Cobwebs in the room and bathroom even spiders, bed cover rough and bed uncomfortable.

Review 14:The food

Review 15:The plumbing could have been a little better but was minor detail

Review 16:It is a privately owned hotel and quite qwirky. The food is excellent the beer is as good or better and the ambience is wonderful. enjoyed eating sumptuous breakfasts overlooking the garden in panelled restaurant!

Review 17:Room very dusty , very run down building generally and not like in the pictures , Breakfast horrendous as the veggie option for the full English was half a plate of boiled onions fried bread and an under cooked egg?!!!!

Review 18:Staff extremely friendly

Review 19:Lovely quiet location in wooded grounds and very friendly, helpful staff. Attractive old manor house with lovely big windows and spacious rooms. Family run, would definitely stay there again.

Review 20:The room was disgustingly dirty. There was damp on the window frames and walls. Tea stains on the walls. Mould all over the bathroom. Shower was inadequate. Room needs updating

Review 21:The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent

Review 22:The taps in the bathroom twirled for some time before they produced water. On the first morning the water was lukewarm but bearable. On the second morning there was no hot water, no heating, and no electric light. On the third morning, when we were leaving, all was well. I asked for a discount and had £20 knocked off my £275 bill.

Review 23:The food, particularly the breakfast, the bar, the beer, were all excellent. The room was pretty, quiet as we had requested, with a green grass and tree view. We didn't sit in it, but the lounge (filled with books and oddities) and the staircase were wondrous.

Review 24:The fire door towards the downstairs into Hythe lobby area has no hinge arrest unit so it can slam unexpectedly.

Review 25:The view from the room, and the helpfulness of the staff. Great communication from both owners,

Review 26:Double bed to small for two, windows not clean, whole place now needs a makeover, main area lower floor has water stains in ceiling

Review 27:Easy parking good location with restaurant and bar

Review 28:Without a sat nav a bit difficult to find

Review 29:Beautiful setting and historical interest. Furnished in keeping with a 250 year old hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was beautifully served overlooking the gardens. Beds wee very comfy

Review 30:Website photos of outside of hotel and rooms are not the same as it is when you arrive. Website needs to be updated as this is false advertising. Stayed 1 week and room never hovered. Cobwebs and dirt on inside of all windows, beds not changed, shower no good, towels renewed once. Menu choice too limited and A la Carte menu too little choice. Dogs allowed where food is served.

Review 31:The waiting staff were excellent. The hosts Sara and Mark were very welcoming. The room size was great.

Review 32:Nothing bad here, the bedrooms have a 80's feel to them, I swear my parents had the same bathroom suite, including the tiles. A little tired in places, but clean and functional.

Review 33:Good Location, fabulous cooked breakfast. If you don’t like sterile modern chain hotels you may like the quint old charm of Tyrrells Ford Hotel some really nice old parts to the building like the dinning room with it’s wood paneling. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

Review 34:Only stayed one night. Some areas a little tired, in need of updating/painting.

Review 35:Professional staff & very cheerful. Lovely peaceful room. Breakfast good.

Review 36:Check in - had to wait over 10 minutes as reception was not attended Room - not particularly clean and very dated Bathroom - radiator stuck on full and controls do badly corroded it could not be turned off Public spaces - very tired

Review 37:Good parking, comfortable bed

Review 38:The one problem was the very hard beds. A more forgiving mattress would be welcomed.

Review 39:Friendly and interesting character hotel. Breakfast was good with especially tasty sausages.

Review 40:the room and condition of shower mold in tray and located over main entrance after we had requested a quiet location,,

Review 41:the breakfast and only one nights stay,,,

Review 42:The bedroom was small only 1 chair to sit on. The taps in the bathroom dripped and mould was ingrained on the shower sealant

Review 43:We were staying to attend a wedding the following day. Had a nice family meal service was good and food was good. Nice dining room and bar area. Owners are very helpful

Review 44:The shower was weak!

Review 45:Lovely location. Staff were great from the lady on arrival to the restaurant staff. Great food both evening and breakfast. Room was spacious and bright. Big bathroom with bath and shower above.

Review 46:Let down through lack of hot water in the morning. Not offered a refund for this - should have been.

Review 47:Beautiful surroundings, great evening meal and friendly staff.

Review 48:All the staff are welcoming, professional and helpful. The cooked breakfast is exceptional and the food served in the bar is very good and reasonably priced.

Review 49:Nothing at all to dislike.

Review 50:The staff are excellent, friendly, happy atmosphere all round. Rooms comfortable, dinner and breakfast excellent. Plenty of parking and quite at night. I would go out of my way to stay here again if in the area. Owners run a great place. You will not be disappointed.

Review 51:Bed was soft and uncomfortable making sleeping difficult. I advised this on check out and told it would be investigated.

Review 52:Food was excellent of good quality and well presented. All staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 53:The only thing that wasn't perfect was the mattress, which was not even.

Review 54:I had a wonderful overnight stay here. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!

Review 55:Bedspread did not give good impression of the hotel. Red with tiny bits on it. Because the hotel had single glazing (maybe listed). Needs to be more modern. Otherwise lovely stay.

Review 56:Staff caring and professional . Food excellent. Beautiful setting. Rooms comfortable and nice.

Review 57:Hmm... could maybe create more modern rooms... but the boutique/country look is suited to some

Review 58:Great that they hand full length mirrors for us and we were attending a wedding and wanted to look nice

Review 59:My only slight complaint would be that the the building needs some redecoration and plumbing requires some repairs and servicing.

Review 60:Location, general atmosphere, friendliness and helpfulness of staff, good food.

Review 61:Nothing.

Review 62:Everything. Mark and Sarah couldn't have been more helpful and in fact went above and beyond to help us reach our friends wedding on time, the service we received was second to none and the hotel itself is lovely. Highly recommended.

Review 63:The hotel is very dated. The bed in our room was not comfortable and we struggled to sleep due to a constant high pitched electrical noise that was audible both day and night. This hotel is not good value for money.

Review 64:There is plenty of parking.

Review 65:Nothing detrimental to say.

Review 66:Very friendly atmosphere. We were Very comfortable. Good excellent family run hotel, absolutely brilliant. Food exceptional. We would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and would visit again.

Review 67:It's in the middle of nowhere. So no shops locally!

Review 68:The hotel is set in beautiful grounds that are quiet and great to walk around. The staff are all really pleasant and gives it the homely feel.

Review 69:Not applicable.

Review 70:Room was lovely, spacious and comfortable with a nice view. Bathroom well equipped and large. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent. All very clean and an ideal place to stay.

Review 71:Short of staff so breakfast service was very slow. Seals around shower cubicle were not too clean.

Review 72:Situation of hotel, close to Burton where I was visiting sick relative

Review 73:Nothing

Review 74:Excellent value for money and helpful staff -and local who went overboard to help solve a problem with my laptop. Beautiful rural location, near to Ringwood. Nice bar with good choice of beers and food.

Review 75:Nice room but spoiled by layers of dust on surfaces and under the bed. Only noticed when sat on chair in front of dresser. Fixtures and fittings very outdated.

Review 76:Great location and has so much potential but needs a makeover.

Review 77:Room was very hot and we were unable to adjust the temperature. The shower over the bath was very difficult to get the temperature and it was either very hot or cold did not mix well

Review 78:Hotel staff very welcoming, food very good and lots of choice

Review 79:None

Review 80:Lovely, friendly staff, evening meal & breakfast very enjoyable. Old building full of character. Decor a little tired in places but did not spoil our stay. Ample parking, lovely setting, very relaxed atmosphere.

Review 81:Room was lovely and even though we were there for just a night we were made to feel very welcome. Great supper and had a drink at the end of the evening with the owners who were delightful. Definitely recommend.

Review 82:there was a high pitched noise coming from a pump or air condition unit which made it difficult to sleep. Room 6 was not a nice out look as it was above the kitchen. Such a shame as the grounds were beautiful.

Review 83:lovely location pretty grounds.

Review 84:Unfortunately, after waiting 20 mins cooked breakfast had not arrived I had to leave for work (time critical) and was unable to find staff to inform them. Maybe tell customers how long a cooked breakfast is likely to take?

Review 85:Very friendly & helpful staff.

Review 86:It was like stepping back into the eighties with avocado bathroom suite and velvet bed cover. Could do with a makeover if it is to keep attracting guests.

Review 87:We appreciated the friendly greeting, helpful staff, and beautiful location on the edge of the New Forest.

Review 88:Room facilities were poor and situated above kitchens with constant noise from extraction and ventilation machines throughout the night...in addition to someone in next room with TV turned on loud until after midnight.

Review 89:Location in the New Foest

Review 90:Only bad thing was rooms were a bit warm, Perhaps a fan in the room would help.

Review 91:Staff helpful, service with a smile. Made it feel like home from home. Would certainly stay again if in the area.

Review 92:Bathroom dated, shower very poor, no bottled water provided as you would expect for £85 per night in a so called superior room and on one occasion noisy staff clambering into the loft at 9 p.m. in the corridor outside. No instructions in the room about the hotel (meal times, fire drill etc.). Stains and marks in numerous places on ceilings.Would not recommend the hotel to anyone.

Review 93:Comfortable bed, mediocre wi-fi but not the strongest, food tasty, friendly staff and plenty of parking.

Review 94:WiFi in room would have been nice but not a major issue.

Review 95:The room and hotel in general was spotlessly clean. There were plenty of tea/coffee/sugar etc unlike many places which are very stingy with them.Staff very friendly.

Review 96:No lift, it would have made life a little easier for my wife with a lift. However we did know that there was no lift !!

Review 97:Good food and pleasant atmosphere

Review 98:Bed only double and difficult to sleep when we are used to a king size Very old fashioned curtains and bathroom suite from the 1980's, with cracks in tiles. Bright light from outside security light swinging through our window and through thin curtains

Review 99:Location good for a wedding close by

Review 100:ROOM.1 placement of tea coffee on the wall.not a lot of room. 2 Very large cap in wall from ceiling to floor. 3 Bathroom floor slopes away from the toilet. 4 Toilet rocks when you sit on it. 5 Shower water not enough pressure .to Slow. 6 shower door leaks all over the floor.

Review 101:The staff very pleasant and helpful.

Review 102:Only downside was the water pressure in the shower was low, probably due to the location of the Inn.

Review 103:Good value for money. Friendly staff, plush seating in both the bar and sitting room. Food, we had our evening meal and breakfast and all the food was great. Have already recommended to 3 other couples.

Review 104:Not only is this an exceptional and beautiful hotel with personal and dedicated staff, they will also go above and beyond to make your stay unique. "Any special requests?" A high 5, and a framed picture of Winston Churchill. I slept comfortably with a 3' x 2' image of the cigar smoking Prime Minister watching from the bedside table.

Review 105:A lovely countryside hotel. Exactly what we needed as a base for exploring the surrounding areas. Rooms had everything you could need; tea/coffee, hairdryer & TV. Also nice to spend some time relaxing in the bar & restaurant downstairs.

Review 106:Disappointingly small room and elderly bathroom overlooking car park - such a shame as lovely countryside views available

Review 107:Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful galleried and comfortable sitting room for guests.

Review 108:A better vegetarian selection on the menu would be good.

Review 109:My wife and I had a lovely stay and the staff and owners were wonderful. Great value for money too. Can't wait to return in the summer to explore further.

Review 110:a touch of paint here and there

Review 111:the owners and their son, best people i have met in charge of a venue, really nice, welcoming and most importantly entertaining. and the food, i wasnt expecting too much but it was excellent, the fish pie the missus had was delicious, simple but excellent menu

Review 112:Booked a single room and was pleasantly surprised as it wasn't a cupboard! Very comfortable with tea/coffee and television. Overall fantastic value for money

Review 113:very friendly and helpful staff, great food and a good selection on the bar. The property itself is full of charm and is situated in a good surroundings. a nice little getaway and will definitely going back!

Review 114:Breakfast was good but lacked a wow factor in terms of choices. Small issues regarding attention to detail throughout stay. for example - the room was clean but there was a tissue on the floor, breakfast order was not consistent for myself and my wife.

Review 115:Really friendly and attentive staff who made you feel welcome and had a genuine passion for the job. Great evening meal and again the staff made recommendations based on personal experience, good choices at the bar which were nicely priced, lovely looking bar area too. Nice location and good sized comfortable room. Overall it would not take much work for the management and staff at the hotel to go from good to great.

Review 116:the rooms were clean and bedlinen was fresh and crisp although bathroom was in need of some TLC as it had a few cracked tiles on the floor and a leaking shower hose, but this didn't faze us at all because we hadn't come away to spend all our time in the bathroom!! the but the food in the restaurant was amazing both evening meal and the freshly cooked breakfast, which was varied and they used good quality produce, not cheap sausages and bacon! Mark and Sara treated you like long lost friends in the bar, chatty and friendly and the prices were good value for money and the house obviously had lots of history. we had a thoroughly enjoyable overnight stay and will definitely go back

Review 117:Television reception was poor in the extreme. Most channels were unobtainable. Channels obtained broke up and pixelated.

Review 118:Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Excellent food.

Review 119:Problem with the tv due to bad weather (unavoidable probably) Heating on all night in bedroom and unable to turn it off.

Review 120:Excellent food at a good price. Friendly staff and very helpful.

Review 121:Very hard to find even with Sat Nav and postcode. Postcode drops you off three miles from Hotel. Had to stop into two local pubs to get directions and still took 40 minutes from postcode location

Review 122:Nice spacious lounge and grounds, decent looking resturant although not open on Sunday evening, but bar food was good.

Review 123:Fumes from the deep fat fryer extractor fans gain entry to the room. This made our eyes sore. I would suggest the exhaust should be extended to above the roof line of the hotel.

Review 124:Setting, excellent staff and comfortable room with 2 chairs. Very quiet at night, so slept very well.

Review 125:The hotel was clean and tidy the food was to a very high standard but not expensive, The host were very friendly and most accommodating,we will be using it again

Review 126:Everything seemed good value for money. The hotel is superbly situated and made for a .lovely celebration. The only criticism I d make ( if I were very petty) would be to say ...the ensuite could have been upgraded but it was very adequate as it was. Little to dislike actually.

Review 127:The staff were very welcoming. The oldy worldy feel , seasonal decor made us at home. Food was good and reasonably priced

Review 128:Tired decor in the bathroom and bedroom, period plumbing. The decor in some of the public areas would also benefit from renewing.

Review 129:Warm welcome, pleasant staff, good food, atmosphere in the bar.

Review 130:The comfort of the hotel, all the staff were very friendly & we were made to feel very welcome, the room was clean, warm & comfortable, will defiantly return.

Review 131:The only real problem was the shower in my room was eaither boiling hot or freezing cold

Review 132:Overall it was a pleasant stay the people were very helpful the room was nice

Review 133:Can't think of anything!

Review 134:From the time I found the Hotel the relaxation and friendliness of the place impressed me.The welcome was great, the room spotless, the balcony view was relaxing. The staff were great and the food was really good. I will definitely be back!

Review 135:I chose this hotel because, at 8.1, it had the best score in the area. It does not deserve it. There is a stale and repulsive smell in the corridors outside some of the bedrooms. The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night; my conversation with staff suggests that this is not uncommon. At breakfast, I was given a sausage that was not fully cooked which I decided to leave.

Review 136:The grounds

Review 137:The toilet was noisy when the cistern filled up. The decor a little tired but on balance it added rather than detracted to the charm of the place.

Review 138:The setting. The interior was like stepping back in time and a great improvement on the trend towards purpose built modern hotels. The staff were very attentive and the ambience was welcoming. Seemed to be used by locals for dining which we took as a good sign.

Review 139:No cake available with tea! Not a dislike - just found the seating in the library a little strange, more like a train carriage, not in cosy groups... TV reception very limited

Review 140:Friendly staff Totally excellent food Free upgrade with comfortable and spacious rooms Great location Tea trays on request in library Free wifi Books available for guests
