Reviews for Hotel Du Nord

Review 1:Suspect the place may have bed bugs, so cannot advise a visit. Bitten to bits overnight, both nights, and it's not mosquito time (November). Currently trying to deal with the fall out.

Review 2:Location excellent.

Review 3:Could be a bit cheaper.

Review 4:The location is perfect! The personnels were so helpful and friendly. You should get breakfast for 8eur. It is worthing the money.

Review 5:Nothing really. Small problems with locking bathroom door or closing the window added a bit of climate to the generally charming old building.

Review 6:Very friendly staff, who shall go with you to show you the nearby parking and get you back to the hotel, so that you don't get lost. They shall also help you with translation if needed. Location in the very centre of Besancon.

Review 7:It's not the most modern building and thus it cannot compete with more modern hotels.

Review 8:Very friendly and helpful staff, private parking (although parkingplaces seemed a bit limited in number and space).

Review 9:Great location and very helpful staff. Worth booking car parking as in limited zone. Car park just a short distance from hotel and staff accompanied us there and back. Decor a bit dated and breakfast fairly basic but overall a nice place to stay with good service.

Review 10:I liked the family-run hotel. The breakfasts were great. When I was working one afternoon with a friend, the staff was good enough to make lunch for my colleague and me, which we consumed while worked in the empty dining room. The WiFi in the Hotel du Nord was better than the wifi I had in a hotel in Paris. The staff was friendly. I liked talking with them.

Review 11:Room for 4 was a bit small, hard to get around beds and not much room to put gear. The decor is a bit worn. I was nervous about leaving the window open when we went out or at night because there is an outdoor stairwell from which you could come straight in, so the room became hot in summer.

Review 12:Great location, walk everywhere, right in the action. Breakfast was lovely and dining room and reception room beautifully decorated. Staff polite and helpful. Good dark curtains. Quiet room onto internal area.

Review 13:English not that possible Could be cleaner Poor wifi not able to send pictures Breakfast too simple

Review 14:Friendly staff Big bathroom Great location Comfortable bed

Review 15:We were traveling by bikes with trailers. The staff was wonderful and welcoming. We were able to store our bikes in a large virtually empty locked garage. The rooms were simple and fine. The breakfast was very good with fruits, breads, yogurt, cold cereal and fresh pressed orange juice! We were able to seek help from staff for information and also to make calls on our behalf at future camping site to make a reservation there since our French is extremely limited. Stayed for two nights - loved Besancon..

Review 16:Wallpaper & carpet bit grubby - only thing we would change! Didnt stop us returning as this our second visit & will be returning yo this hotel again as it is very good value for money -Hotel very french!

Review 17:Location very good, staff very helpful & friendly. Very warm & cosy hotel.bathroom well serviced with clean towels & cleaning & also bed linen very fresh & clean. Asked for extra pillows & got three delivered in two minutes. Excellent service.

Review 18:Very noisy at night with the cobblestone street, but the town was busy so I guess you can not blame the Hotel.

Review 19:Friendly and helpful staff. Very good breakfast. Lovely atmosphere.

Review 20:The room wasn't ready when we arrived but we could leave our luggage there.

Review 21:Excellent location; close to museums, restaurants and shopping. A nice quiet room with a beautiful and spacious bath. Spotless bedlinen and towels. The staff was really helpful when we were looking for restaurants, they not only gave us advice, but also made calls for us (many of them are close on Sunday evening). Additionally, lady Agnes sent to my address a power adapter I had forgotten in the hotel. That was extremely kind of her and much appreciated.

Review 22:Getting to the hotel by car proved impossible. The pedestrianisation and one-way system was difficult to navigate and we had to park and walk. Once at the hotel, staff guided us to the secure parking.

Review 23:Friendly and helpful staff. Secure parking.

Review 24:The location and the parking going to the hotel is not very clear. The staff should at least inform the clients by e-mail on how to locate the hotel. Telephone calls cost money too ;-(

Review 25:The shopping area and the museum are excellent to stroll around.

Review 26:Though quite spacious, our family room was long and dark with one small window onto a fire escape. It only had two towels despite being booked for four. The tiny separate WC immediately became smelly.

Review 27:Excellent staff and location

Review 28:Changes in one way systems round Besancon make it tricky to get to if on old sat nav due to pedestrianisation of old town, but once there good: see positive remarks!

Review 29:Comfortable family room with 2 double beds; Good central location close to restaurants, shops and cathedral. Friendly staff showed us to secure carpark 5mins walk away which was good value at 8euros per night.

Review 30:Rather noisy street with cobbles - probably better to ask for a room at the back

Review 31:Central location, easy parking right outside, friendly welcome, comfortable and traditional room

Review 32:Room given, although more appropriate for our family size, was very cramped and not to the same standard of other rooms. Disliked having to park so far away, although kind staff did lead us to the secure car park once we'd checked in.

Review 33:Very pleasant staff. Offered us a family room with extra bed when they saw our tall teenage boys. Location is right in middle of lovely Besancon, but we arrived on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of market day, and had to park far away and drag our suitcases over cobbled streets. Breakfast fine, though simple. Would try again as a couple with light luggage.

Review 34:Repair of the street, where hotel is situated

Review 35:Everything was all right ! Hotel in the very heart of the city.

Review 36:Stark rooms, few ammenities

Review 37:Great central location

Review 38:Plumbing might need an update but otherwise no complaints.

Review 39:Classic, traditional hotel. Nostalgic. Nice. Friendly staff!

Review 40:Needs a facelift. Smell of stale air in room floors and staircase.

Review 41:Excellent location, helpful staff, fast free WiFi.

Review 42:No a/c in room; just a fan. Noticed portable a/c units in other rooms.

Review 43:Clean, good value, friendly staff

Review 44:Room for 3 adults a little cramped.

Review 45:Breakfast was perfect. The hotel had character & very central to what we wanted to visit.

Review 46:Isabelle, the hostess, and her husband were so kind to us, and did everything possible to make us feel at home. The hotel is an Oasis away from home

Review 47:Location. Friendly staff.Small somewhat dated hotel.

Review 48:Good location, friendly staff

Review 49:Nothing.

Review 50:As always, friendly and welcoming. Superb location.

Review 51:Getting to the hotel can be difficult

Review 52:The location is absolutely perfect if you are staying in Besancon for a couple of days or more.

Review 53:Location, safe motorbike parking ticket

Review 54:Very helpful staff. Took us personally to your car park.

Review 55:Located in centre of Besancon, easy walk to restaurants, shops etc. Helpful staff. Elevator (lift) - unexpected in a 2 star hotel.

Review 56:Car parking is 3,streets away, but is highly secure

Review 57:Central location, great for shopping and sightseeing.

Review 58:The room was too crowded for 4 people. There is no shower curtain so it is difficult to shower.

Review 59:The location was excellent in the heart of the city

Review 60:A little pricey

Review 61:Close to sights

Review 62:The street was a bit noisy late at night.

Review 63:Lovely helpful staff, excellent wifi.

Review 64:Room was pretty basic and tired looking.

Review 65:Nice, characterful hotel well located in centre of Besancon, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 66:Nothing

Review 67:The friendly staff, assistance with car parking, breakfast and comfortable bedroom.

Review 68:Very friendly and helpful staff... Great location

Review 69:Friendly staff, breakfast and quiet room with spacious bathroom

Review 70:Staff helpful breakfast excellent parking and assistance excellent Proximity to town facilities excellent

Review 71:location

Review 72:Noise from the street

Review 73:Location, helpful staff

Review 74:Off-site parking Difficulty loading & unloading vehicle

Review 75:Location

Review 76:No elevator, many stairs with luggage.

Review 77:Centrally located, near to all facilities in Besancon.

Review 78:Centrally located and provided secure parking for our motorcycles at €5 per bike.

Review 79:what an amazing building! we loved staying here rooms were big and clean. staff friendly. great stay

Review 80:A great budget hotel in the Centre of a lovely town.

Review 81:The location was great -- close to the pedestrian area, easy to walk from here up to the old fort.

Review 82:the bathroom divided in two parts.

Review 83:Beds, position, people, cleanliness

Review 84:carpet clashed with my wife's outfit (her fault?)

Review 85:Location, breakfast, staff and for my wife the bath.

Review 86:The hotel seems a bit old and run-down, it was hot and stuffy in the room, carpet was stained. Walls not thick enough and could hear walking upstairs. Although they say parking is available, it is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and you need to ask them first so they accompany you with the key, makes it really complicated when kids and luggage are involved. Breakfast could really be better, although on the second day we did figure out that if you ask (only if you ask) they would prepare scrambled eggs (quite good).

Review 87:location, although this made it difficult with the car (right downtown, where little streets and restricted access makes it confusing). Seems like a family run place, quite courteous.

Review 88:Decor was bit dark and faded so typical family hotel but very central. Had to wait for barrier to get in restricted area where hotel was,but hotel had secure parking 5min walk and they go with you for drop off and collection. So not difficult.

Review 89:Traditional family style hotel with nice breakfast area. Right in middle of city with character. Several floors but there is a lift.

Review 90:The staff were excellent, helpful and very pleasant. Having somewhere relatively close by to secure the car at night was an advantage. The room we had was pleasant, always kept clean and warm.

Review 91:The hotel is very centrally located in the heart of the old town not far from the path to access the citadel. It's not luxurious but was fine for a one night stay. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful with fresh fruit, baguette, croissants and yoghurt.

Review 92:We have been staying at the Hotel du Nord since 2007 and have always had an enthusiastic welcome. We are comfortable there and the breakfasts are good.

Review 93:the extensive tramway/road works required unexpected detours to get from and to the train station and around the city but this will be a significant improvement and completed well before the end of the year (ie 2013)

Review 94:the location of the hotel and the history compacted in the "ox-bow" of the old city

Review 95:Putting a new tram system into the town, which makes the route in and out a bit tricky.

Review 96:In the centre of town, close to shops and restaurants. Old quirky building. Secure Parking available if you have reserved it

Review 97:Very hard to find as in pedestrian Road area of the town. Should have been informed on booking it as tricky if you don't know the town. Parking hard to get.

Review 98:Comfy beds and spacious room. Breakfast good.

Review 99:Lack of air conditionning. Our room was at the third and last floor and the temperature outside was over 30 degrees C. The last floor (at least) should have AC - or should be closed in summer.

Review 100:Kindness of the personnel, cleanliness, nice big bathroom, good location in the city centre.

Review 101:Public parking was about a 5 minute walk away (though we were allowed to unload our cases at the hotel and staff went with us to show us where to park).

Review 102:We liked everything about it, especially the older 'grand hotel' feel yet with very modern facilities. The location was very convenient in the heart of the old city and the staff were very friendly and helpful and their suggestion of where to have our anniversary dinner was spot on. The continental buffet breakfast was very good with a variety of choice.

Review 103:Road works for tram meant it was difficult to get t the hotel. They did say that if we had phoned them they would have collected us and parked our cars.

Review 104:The staff were really friendly and helpful. Hotel was clean and beds comfortable if a little dated.

Review 105:We took a triple room. The toilet was separate from the shower which is not an issue in itself but it was a minisculecubicle with no ventilation. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel. We flfound €88 too expensive for coffe, bread and croissants.

Review 106:We are on a cycling trip and we had to stop overnight at Besancon. The hotel is well located just 100 yards from the Cathedral and from restaurants. Nice and welcomong staff, they provided us with a locked garage for our bikes.

Review 107:The hotel was clean and the room was spacious and airy. The staff were lovely and helpful. The location was great, though hard to get to by car. It took a lot of navigating through the many one way streets. The hotel was in the heart of the city. A supermarket was located at the end of the street which was really convenient.

Review 108:No elevator ( however, it is kind of expected for the historic location). No parking and street parking is difficult to find.

Review 109:low rates, great location, cleanliness, friendly stuff.

Review 110:Room was a little cramped - but given the age of the building, perfectly normal.

Review 111:Friendly, helpful staff. Good location, within walking distance of la citadel

Review 112:The car park was at some distance and the staff member who escorted me there did not help with either of my two pieces of luggage.

Review 113:Right in the centre of town. Room clean and comfortable.

Review 114:The Hotel du Nord was charming! We spoke very limited French and they spoke very limited English but they went out of their way to understand our requests. The rooms were quaint and very clean and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised as the web site did not do it justice. It was a stop over for a couple of nights while we went even further into the country to explore our French heritage. It was in a great area with many boutiques and cafes. Would definitely recommend it.

Review 115:I found the bed mattress too firm.

Review 116:Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable. The optional breakfast for 8 Euros was good value including juice, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, croissant, breads, jams, cheese, coffee, tea or hot chocolate in a comfortable breakfast room. Hotel is ideally located in the city centre a 10 minute bus ride from the Viotte train station and 200 m from the bus stop.

Review 117:The floor is too noisy, is of wood floor with carpet, Ask for an apartment in last floor, a silent one.

Review 118:I like very much the location of the hotel. staff, breakfast is simple, but good.Is a old one, but has all necessities. Wi -fi is excellent.

Review 119:Some mold in bathroom on ceiling, and slanted floor, but that comes with the character and charm of an old place! Shower and facilities worked fine!

Review 120:Great location, right downtown, all shopping and city center right there. Grocery store next door Minutes via car to Citadel We had a large family room, plenty of beds and even two balconies overlooking the beautiful street Parking available nearby Breakfast included (bread, fresh squeezed juice, yogurt, tea and coffee)

Review 121:I loved everything about this hotel. Nothing at all to complain about other than it will prob increase in price due to all the rave reviews!

Review 122:Great location and friendly staff. Very helpful with parking arrangements. The fan in the room was a must.

Review 123:Location, location, location
