Reviews for Ely House Hotel

Review 1:The staff could not have been more helpful. They gave us directions to all the places we wanted to go to and also gave advice about local places of interest.

Review 2:Shower and bathroom mirror light not working properly. Minor gripes - no writing material,'guide book' or tissues in the room. Bit of a rabbit warren to get to the room

Review 3:Very friendly staff Good WiFi

Review 4:Our room could have done with being a couple of degrees warmer or a blanket in the room, apart from that, a very nice hotel

Review 5:A very clean and tidy hotel

Review 6:Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Review 7:Very warm welcome from the staff, especially Claudia with her smile, that is fully dedicated to give a personnal treatment. I have never seen an employee devoded that much elsewhere. It was my second stay and certainly not my last. I recommend it to anyone.

Review 8:The shower was warm, but not very powerful.

Review 9:The staff member we dealt with (a young woman with dark hair) was really excellent- friendly, helpful and efficient. The hotel was cosy and had a lovely bar area. The room was well-appointed and comfortable.

Review 10:I would have liked breakfast a bit later than 09:30 on Sunday but that's very minor.

Review 11:The single room was comfortable and the shower good. It was a short 6-7 min. taxi ride from the centre of Wolverhampton.

Review 12:No bad experience but the time of breakfast was very early,7.30 - 8.30am only, which is actually too early for a non business person, so can't comment on it, which is a shame.

Review 13:Everything. The people were lovely and the facilities good. Will definitely stay again.

Review 14:Room 11 was very small - barely 7' wide. For a 3* hotel it was expensive when breakfast was added.

Review 15:Useful to have on-site parking. The breakfast was excellent - but extra. The room was comfortable and clean.

Review 16:our 'king size bed' was actually two singles pushed together which lead to an uncomfortable sleep. limited parking in a very small car park

Review 17:Clean place, friendly staff, spacious rooms, great breakfast.

Review 18:Bit noisy if you have a room overlooking the main room at the front.

Review 19:A very friendly hotel where nothing is too much trouble. Great staff, good food and a lovely atmosphere

Review 20:The receptionist gave us a warm, friendly welcome nothing was too much trouble and the room, food and service overall was excellent. The decor is amazing and the rooms recently upgraded to a very high standard.

Review 21:Only negative is shower wasn't very powerful, but still nice and hot.

Review 22:The staff were exceptional, really helpful kind and patient. The location was good, only 10 min walk from city centre. Nice little bar inside. Good clean spacious rooms.

Review 23:Comfortable room, functional, but no frills.Only minimum amount of tea/ coffee making facilities.Didnt stay for breakfast as was extra £6-99.Went to Toby on way back, big buffet breakfast and cheaper.

Review 24:Friendly staff, clean room.Stayed 1 night, for a day at races and night seeing Madness.

Review 25:Only down side: the noise of the traffic was really loud as there is no double or secondary glazing to the sash windows.

Review 26:Staff really friendly and helpful, hotel was very clean and comfortable.

Review 27:Decor is dated and breakfast was average, but it's a 3 star hotel so didn't expect more

Review 28:Very friendly helpful staff, good location and the cleanliness was better than some 4-5 star hotels

Review 29:Everything about the hotel is perfect and we couldn't fault it in any way.The welcome was very nice and the staff were wonderful. The hotel was formerly a girls school and has quite a few low rooflines so watch your head (but they all add to the character). We used Ely House while attending a concert in Wolverhampton town centre and the location was spot on. There is a lovely Italian restaurant called Bella less than 2 minutes walk away and well worth the visit. The town centre is about 10 minutes walk away (£4 in a taxi which can be booked by reception) but I wouldn't recommend walking late at night as you have to go through an underpass.

Review 30:Ely House was my first school in 1944 and it was nice to see some of the original features and recall many memories The staff were very friendly with plenty of smiles. The only meals we had were breakfast and they were good.

Review 31:The level of customer service I received from Louise was exceptional. Having arrived an hour and a half early and needing to be at a wedding before the official check in time, I was spared having to get changed in the toilet as she found me a room that was already prepared, allowed me to check in well before time as well as offering to book me a taxi. This was above and beyond my expectations. The breakfast the next morning was also excellent.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Stayed with a group of friends, mixing business in the day with social activity at night. Nothing was too much trouble for Louise and her team. Fantastic customer service! Thanks.

Review 34:Very friendly and helpful staff, very clean premises. Easy to park the car, close to everything you need. My second stay there and will certainly book again.

Review 35:Stayed here whilst attending an event at RAF Cosford, made most welcome and the staff were outstanding, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 36:Returning from holiday to break a journey so on route and near to two attractions we wished to see. The staff member on duty was welcoming, exceptionally helpful and attentive. She recommended a local restaurant too within easy walking distance. The restaurant was excellent and the evening was a lovely end to our holiday.

Review 37:Parking , although space is there but some customers used two bays to park. Need to be told , so other customer can park

Review 38:Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 39:Outstanding service from the lady on reception, think get name was Claudia, nothing was too much trouble. Would stay there again, and highly recommend.

Review 40:Steep stairs to our room on the 1st floor were a bit difficult but then I didn't express a preference when booking.

Review 41:Staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

Review 42:This hotel was just perfect. The staff were lovely, funny, welcoming and couldn't be more helpful. The room was excellent. A huge comfy bed made for a great sleep. The bathroom was newly decorated and very spacious. And the home cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious.

Review 43:It was difficult to find space in the car park, mainly as other guests had parked so badly, but there was ample room for off-road parking.

Review 44:A convenient location for us to be able to reach the RAF Cosford Air Museum.

Review 45:Parking is a little bit tight but its secure and close to the building

Review 46:The hotel is a home from home with wonderful staff who go out of theirway to make you feel at home and the food is also of a high standard Iwould recommend it without hesitation .

Review 47:Nothing at all

Review 48:Made to feel very welcome from the moment of arrival, nothing too much trouble. Lovely clean room, toilet was spotless. Nicely decorated room. Would definitely stay again Priced very reasonably.

Review 49:If you are a light sleeper you will need a room in the annexe as the property is a listed building and rooms that face onto the road are not double glazed.

Review 50:Claudia the Receptionist/waitress was very helpful always had a smile on her face. The hotel is a mix of old and new decor has 24 hour security and I would stay here again.

Review 51:Plastic cover on mattress made bed very hot, but it is needed to keep the bed clean so unnderstand why its there.

Review 52:excellent welcome and breakfast, room very clean and large.

Review 53:Slight complaint was that the room was cold and the heating was not on. However it was not worth complaining about and I am sure that a heater would have been found had I asked.

Review 54:The pleasant attentive and very helpful receptionist. She changed our room and gave us a ground floor room when told that my wife had difficulty climbing stairs. The breakfast (full English) was excellent.

Review 55:All was good.

Review 56:I had an excellent experience at this hotel. The front desk people were lovely and Claudia was especially helpful and always incredibly cheerful. She really went out of her way and is a credit to this hotel. The room was well appointed, bathroom clean and modern, bed and linen great, breakfast was really very good.

Review 57:The Hotel is run very professionally and was lovely and clean & well presented. It has a very comfortable, friendly atmosphere and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Being a female lone traveller, I felt very comfortable and safe at all times so I could relax and enjoy my time there. I will definitely use Ely House whilst staying in Wolverhampton in the future.

Review 58:All the staff were helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was very good, bed comfortable, and room quiet, even though it was close to a busy road. Everywhere was clean and tidy.

Review 59:i thought that the breakfast didn't offer much variety. I was expecting crossaints etc

Review 60:i liked how close the hotel was to restaurants and I liked the room

Review 61:The staff undoubtedly, they all seemed genuinely interested in our well being and did everything we'd expect of them to make our stay as comfortable as possible.I'd like to single out Claudia, she was particularly helpful, very pleasant and seeming, omnipresent.

Review 62:Great welcome, staff (Claudia) ever so good-humoured, helpful and attentive made our stay so enjoyable that we will definitely be back if visiting Wolverhampton. Great location, close enough to the centre to walk but in a quiet area so no disturbance from passing traffic. Entire property spotless. Comfortable beds. Good food, nice breakfast. Had dinner one evening and I couldn't compliment it enough. Overall, I'd say great value.

Review 63:We stayed in an executive double room at the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised with what we got for our money the room was huge and so was the bathroom staff were always more than helpful too for whatever we needed.

Review 64:I feel I'm being picky in identifying faults with this hotel as everything else was so good but...... Margarine for breakfast and not proper butter let them down as did the poor quality breakfast coffee that tasted like cheap instant. Sorry but you ought to know

Review 65:free upgrade, staff, evening meal, breakfast . Everything was aimed at making my stay as pleasant as possible and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

Review 66:Free wifi was very slow but higher speed is available for a minimal fee.

Review 67:Clean and convenient to shops and pubs. Staff will bend over backwards to help. Rooms were small but comfortable with the charm of a skeleton key for your door.

Review 68:not enough tea / coffee facilities in room

Review 69:freindly and helpful staff, beuatiful lounge/bar decor, quite surroundings ideal location ( just off town centre )

Review 70:Not Really a 'Complaint' but :- 1. All Evening Meals were the same price whatever you ordered, even off the specials list? 2. Menu limited 3. Room had a shower, but was certainly not a Power Shower. 4. Cooked Breakfast was just that. No cereals or fruit juices etc offered.

Review 71:Friendly Staff, Nothing was too much trouble. Clean Rooms and Hotel. Great Bed. (Had a problem with the shower which was dealt with immediately without any fuss, great service!)

Review 72:The only negative and I feel bad saying this because they were all so lovely was myself and wife found the bed very uncomfortable. I have only stayed there once and would stay again without hesitation would just ask for a different room

Review 73:This was a lovely hotel in a lovely location. There was plenty of parking which I liked. The hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful. The room was a little cold and within minutes of asking this was sorted they really were fantastic at this hotel.

Review 74:The bed had a sort of plastic sheet, which wasn't very comfortabele. I would change breakfast in a buffet type, instead of menu.

Review 75:The welcome home feeling, And the friendly staff. Food was very good. And Nice that you van wait in the lounge for it getting ready.

Review 76:From the minute I arrived to the minute I left after a 3 night stay, everything was just spot on. Everyone so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The whole place was absolutely spotless. Breakfasts were fantastic.

Review 77:Mattress much to hard for our taste, so did not sleep very well. Room much too hot had to have window open all night. Staff did their best to rectify the problem, eg turned boiler down for us.

Review 78:Staff very friendly and polite. Good service at breakfast, food nicely cooked and hot on each of the three days we stayed.

Review 79:I like beans with my breakfast and no black pudding - maybe a choice of items would be nice. The paint scheme is a bit grim

Review 80:The staff are the friendliest I have come across. Nice old building. Close to town

Review 81:Neither the hotel or website tells you that they don't do lunches or food on the weekend so we had to walk back into town to get something to eat. Also the matteress was very thin and pillows hard

Review 82:Staff very helpful and friendly and the hotel is in a fantastic location close to town and other places of interest

Review 83:No one available in the morning when we left, although it was 6:30am so hard to complain.

Review 84:Room, staff, location, bed and facilities were all excellent. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again when in the area.

Review 85:Location ideal for us as we were going to the races, good car parking facility, really friendly and pleasant staff, very comfortable large room and bathroom and we were given a little of the history of the building prior to it being a hotel which was interesting. Good choice of menu for breakfast which was lovely.

Review 86:Beds were a little old and worn, bearable and by no means uncomfortable but could do with an upgrade. Suited us as we had been out for gig and had a few drinks so literally came back and crashed out!

Review 87:The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, great customer service makes such a difference and all staff were wonderful

Review 88:Nothing.

Review 89:All of it. A very warm welcome coupled with attentive staff and a very clean and comfortable stay that was great value. Ate in one night, very homely tasty cooking.

Review 90:Pathways to rooms are quite narrow - especially if you carry luggage. If you're very tall then your head will probably touch ceiling in the shower.

Review 91:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Tidied the room often seemed clean. Bed was nice as well. Free wifi that works ( could've been faster but wifi is a problem in all hotels - this was good in comparison to others where I have stayed ). Didn't experience anything that would annoy me too much.

Review 92:Breakfast I thought was quite expensive as opposed to some places where you self serve. there you have to pay extra for cereals etc.

Review 93:had a back room (near to car park) which was quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Is cleaner and tidier after the refurb. We have stayed before.

Review 94:Bed was very hard for our tastes. The room we were in was very big so didn't get that cosy feeling. And the stairs to the room were a bit precarious.

Review 95:Clean and tidy. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast well presented

Review 96:Described as power shower in room 18 but wasn't very powerful at all, had a bath in the end. Good choice to have both bath and shower available though.

Review 97:Room very clean and modern décor, large size. Overall the hotel was very clean and modern with it being recently refurbished.

Review 98:Heating totally inadequate. High ceilings, large single glazed window with small radiator beneath. Even smaller, and very basic, electric heater offered as back-up but this did not seem to work. Never been so cold since my childhood in an unheated council house. Sadly therefore can't recommend for a winter stay.

Review 99:Good small hotel. Recently renovated. Friendly staff.

Review 100:Slightly disappointed with the buffet cooked breakfast. Food was looking a little tired.

Review 101:Very attentive staff and an excellent restaurant. I booked the Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal which was very good value for money. The room (which was in the original building) was large and clean with all the facilities you would expect.

Review 102:Hotel could have been warmer

Review 103:Hotel was close to city centre and a twenty minute walk from the station. Hotel provides evening meals and is close to a number of restaurants. The friendliness of staff was a key feature.

Review 104:Although the welcome was "warm", the room was unfortunately not. The heater was neither able to warm the room up and so it was too cold.

Review 105:Very friendly welcome.

Review 106:Could do with better coffee to go with the breakfast.

Review 107:The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the service in general was good for a three star hotel.

Review 108:The concierge was also the waitress and then the housekeeper! Thepictures of the rooms are greatly exaggerated and the reference to'themed' rooms was puzzling as the plain and cold roomwasn't anything like the advertisement. The hotel is cold and needsa serious upgrade. The bar was considered until we discovered that the£3.25 for a beer was not a pulled pint but was indeed the rip off pricefor a can of lager! Very disappointing!

Review 109:The concierge was pleasant and tried to be helpful but she was new and abit worried by any requests we made.

Review 110:The host louise was very helpful and friendly, showed us to our room and enjoyed our stay in Ely house. The breakfast was lovely and even hot, it's amazing how people can't deliver a hot breakfast but it was here. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.

Review 111:Nothing. Value for money.

Review 112:We were visiting Wolverhampton for a concert at the civic hall. This hotel couldnt have been better placed a 10 minute walk away. Lovely customer service from Louise who saw to us and couldnt do enough for us. Nice comfortable room.

Review 113:Bed was really comfortable and the room spotless. The bathroom was lovely. The staff were incredibly helpful sorting out taxis and taking care of me. I didn´t take the breakfast so can´t comment on catering. Much better than going to a chain hotel, got personal attention and service.

Review 114:Stains on painted walls looked like someone had thrown liquid on the walls.

Review 115:Breakfast. Staff friendly and very polite. Parking good although very limited space to manuover.

Review 116:The room was extremely small. There was a huge beam right through the middle that was a 'headbreaker'. I wonder how hotel inspections allow such a room to exist. Worst of all, their charges for that kind of room were exorbitant (same as double rooms at far better hotels). Lack of consideration to safety makes this probably the worst hotel ever.

Review 117:Breakfast was good, the restaurant area is beautiful

Review 118:The extention to the rear where we were roomed was basic, and in no way near the standard of, say Premiere Inn and were in need of serious modernisation for the price paid.

Review 119:Very nice historical building, the main building was excellently decorated and comfortable.

Review 120:I liked that it was in the centre of town. The staff were very friendly and though it was a last minute booking the room was lovely and perfect for our stay

Review 121:Cooked breakfast not available until 0800 at weekends. No kettle and drinks available in bedroom. Shower could have been more powerful.

Review 122:Despite a breakfast not being available until 0800 at the weekend. The hotel accomodated our needs and provided a continental breakfast.

Review 123:The Hotel and staff were wonderful. The 4 Poster Bedroom (12) was exceptional. Spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The location is a 15 min walk or a £3.50 Taxi ride to the city. A very pleasant stay indeed. Will definatly stay again.

Review 124:The bed was very hard. The restuarant menu had no prices and turned out to be very-expensive for what I suspect was coop ready made food.

Review 125:The room decor and amenities were excellent. If you take a bed topper and eat out a perfect place to stay.

Review 126:I'd only reserved my room the night before the stay and requested an early check in because we were attending a wedding at 1pm. The hotel had no record of my reservation, a room certainly wasn't ready and I had to get ready in the public toilets. I also had to find a plug socket in the public lounge to plug in my hair straighteners! This was not how I'd planned my stay to go. Fortunately there was a room available. I really was not very happy!

Review 127:On top floor and no lift but was not a problem for my fellow guests Some noise from traffic but expected in a city

Review 128:We were made very welcome rooms very clean. Nothing too much trouble breakfast good and service good . Would definitely stay again just request lower floor
