Reviews for Fines Bayliwick Hotel

Review 1:Bed was uncomfortable, the room was cold, the décor was drab, there was nowhere in the bathroom to put toiletry bag down except the floor, the shower was either hot or cold and was very cramped (and no, I am not a big person)

Review 2:Location was convenient

Review 3:..needed to place blanket in middle of bed to reduce rolling together ..

Review 4:The style and decor of the property were very tasteful .. Spacious room and large bathroom .. Helpful staff and excellent breakfast ..

Review 5:Nothing!

Review 6:Nicely decorated - lots of character, very clean, fluffy towels, nice bedding, warm and cosy single room, helpful staff, good breakfast, nice communal living room with tv. Would recommend!

Review 7:the food was terrible, the water in the morning went from cold to hot and back again, and also there was no pressure, the walls are so thin, that I could here the man in the next room snoring so loudly, I thought he was lying next to me.

Review 8:Furniture/decoration was dated and unsightly, the reception staff were not welcoming, there were limited options for an expensive breakfast, the shower was dirty and didn't work. We had a member of staff unlock the room door midday without knocking. Overall very disappointing. We had only booked for a couple of days and still checked out early despite knowing that we wouldn't be refunded. I would strongly suggest saving your money and looking for somewhere else.

Review 9:Nothing.

Review 10:Gap under door looks to big for a fire door to cope with Shower was not to a good standard cold for a long time poor shower/hair shampooing Menu out of date

Review 11:We paid £120 for 2 nights stay for two people in a twin room. I did not realise that breakfast was not included at all, not even continental which is usually free in most hotels, never the less this was my own fault for not being more observant. I had requested a slice of gluten free bread and some soya milk for my mum who is both lactose intolerant and celiac. And some regular scrambled eggs and toast for myself. This cost me an extra £40!! We were assured that this could be provided no problem. At breakfast the first morning, there was no gluten free bread. no soya milk. My mum couldn't even have the scrambled eggs offered as they were cooked with milk. My breakfast although plentiful was of really poor quality. The continental was nicely presented but I have to say I was very let down by the meal and we didn't have dinner here in the evening because of it, instead choosing to walk 2 miles to nearest pub for food. I asked for gluten free bread again for the next morning and again we were told it would be provided. It was not. They did not offer to refund money for this. The head boards on our beds seemed to be custom made and they were just really uncomfortable with the wood digging into my head as I tried to sleep. Also our socket was blown and smoked which was pretty terrifying trying to plug anything in.

Review 12:Great Value for money. Well mannered staff. The property is an old house but really nice decorations inside. Offered a large selection of Tv channels. Great shower. Very clean. Lots of toiletries and tea/coffee etc offered. If you want some where very affordable, very clean and reasonably comfortable. Then definitely stay here.

Review 13:Not a bad experience but the single room was very small with storage for a case non-existent. The breakfast gave only one slice of bacon & there were no side plates out. The shower in the double room was potentially dangerous to an older person re: the hinging on the slide door and the quick build up of heat when in the shower but again the receptionist said they were refurbishing this. The car park was a little tight re: available space and my toiletries (including a shaving brush) which I left were binned that day apparently when my daughter who lives locally tried to retrieve them the following day when I was in Cyprus.

Review 14:Both receptionists were excellent & welcoming. The location to my family was excellent.

Review 15:Staff were rude Staff unhelpful Forced out of room at 10am, with no chance to get ready, etc. Staff unwilling to assist with luggage Staff unwilling to help check-in or out late

Review 16:Cheapish... Parking

Review 17:As mentioned floorboards creaky..& staff difficult to find at times.

Review 18:Quaint old style hotel..Clean & tidy(though floorboards a bit old & creaky)...Pleasant staff.. Reasonable VFM

Review 19:That there's one cup , one towel and one pillow each in a double room room really cold when arrived and mould around the bathroom window

Review 20:Location and did have a good nights sleep

Review 21:Nothing great for £55 for a twin room in Ascot

Review 22:Charm, fact not a chain and had character Reception/Staff friendly and informative Large good quality towels (pet hate when get a flannel sized towel) Lower price functional, comfortable rooms

Review 23:Very dated room and bathroom facilities - no/slow hot water on one day and variable temperature afterwards. No compensation/apology for broken shower and was not even asked if the problem had been resolved. Noisy room (thin walls and ceilings). Some refurbishment and some improved customer service would go a long way to making it a good stay.

Review 24:Lovely cooked breakfast and friendly staff. Quick response to broken shower - a new handle was fitted during the day.

Review 25:The Bayliwick Executive Room (No. 20) is located next to the front door and the front door locking system is noisy and stiff you get disturbed by everyone coming in and out. They didn't open the restaurant in the evening (apparently due to lack of room bookings) but it seems pretty full to me and there are no restaurants very nearby, you need to take a taxi into town.

Review 26:The bathroom in the Baylwick Room was very pretty and the bedroom & house very beautiful. Very good value for money.

Review 27:Very hospitable family hotel comfortable clean and efficient staff and owners were very welcoming and friendly and we would not hesitate to stay there again

Review 28:Everything was fine but the only criticism would be the creaky floorboards.

Review 29:We liked the individual nature of the hotel, its decoration and character was smashing. I was offered a ground floor room when it was seen that I had a slight mobility problem I didn't need to accept but I was impressed with the offer. The hotel and room were spotlessly clean and the bed, and bedding were perfect.

Review 30:Slight complication with the rooms on arrival which was resolved promptly. Very noisy bed and kept awake by the headboard creaking every time we moved.

Review 31:Good location for ascot races

Review 32:The breakfast wasn't so good . £10 for 1 sausage ,1 slice of bacon ,1 egg , 1/2 a tomato and some greasy tinned mushrooms .

Review 33:The price was good £59 for the room

Review 34:Clean, comfortable rooms with spotless, white cotton bedsheets. Polite, unobtrusive owners/ staff. Very good value - especially when travelling as blood-related threesome.

Review 35:The hotel is a bit tired, it would really benefit with some refurbishment. The meal I had was nice, however a little odd to have a naan bread with Thai Green curry. All meals came with rice and naan bread - even the lasagne.

Review 36:The service was excellent. Couldn't ask for more.

Review 37:Limited menu and selection of drinks available in the restaurant, but enjoyed the meal and pleased it was open till 10pm which was good as we arrived quite late.

Review 38:Good location for one night business trip for a course. Interesting decor and friendly staff, good to stay somewhere different to the normal budget Premier Inn or Travel Lodge hotels.

Review 39:Staff a bit 'take it or leave it'; breakfast a bit expensive for what I wanted although I could have had a full English. Evening meal very limited choice and I suspect only consists of dishes that can be microwaved.

Review 40:Location for my visit to organisation in Bracknell town Centre;

Review 41:Shower had had seen its day unfortunately. No markers on the carpet where a step down could cause a fall.

Review 42:Lovely place, pretty and friendly. Good location. Quiet rooms a plus.

Review 43:Location excellent, staff friendly but discreet. Furnishings tasteful. Quiet area, it would be a good location for business meetings, but it was also a good location for a weekend break. Was not there long, but would definately rebook.

Review 44:The bed was so uncomfortable. There are no bedside lamps. Also no windows in the room we stayed in so it was too hot. The following morning the receptionist didn't even enquire if we enjoyed our stay.

Review 45:We had problem with hot water in the shower. And furniture is quite old. Located far from shops and other restaurants. But for 1 night it is ok.

Review 46:Nice old building with cute garden inside with bench where you can sit and drink a cup of coffee which you can prepare in the room. You feel like in 19-th century. There is restaurant and you can try indian food.

Review 47:The heating was on and we were too hot but it was unseasonably warm weather and we were able to turn it off in the room.

Review 48:Nice room, excellent free Wi Fi, hot shower, quiet location, very clean, good value.

Review 49:friendly staff. Easy access. Lovely old building, added interest. Proximity to Heathrow, easy "commute". Good parking and building access. Supper was delicious Indian food, as tasty as any I have had, nothing complicated or fancy but very lovely room. Friendly staff.

Review 50:Rooms stuffy and not aired. Strong smell of air freshener. Check-in extremely lengthy and questions rather random. Took money on the credit card without permission. Would've been nice to be taken to the room when checking in. Not much help given when struggling to use the mechanism on the front door. Would've been nicer to get a demo rather than shouting instructions from behind the reception desk.

Review 51:Good location at a resonable price.

Review 52:There was damp coming through the wall , the bathroom was in a glass conservatory with an electric radiator on an extension lead, hot water took about 20 mins to run through. Breakfast was served between 8.30 and 9.30 and we were hassled to go through for it; it was value food, bread for toast disgusting and small portion.

Review 53:Nice old building and furniture

Review 54:The staff, on average, weren't nice. The gentleman at reception thatwas in his 50s (perhaps the owner) was very polite but the youngerreceptionist (long hair, his son, possibly) was rude. The maids wereunpleasant and blunt. We couldn't check in until 2pm yet we had toleave at 10am - maybe that's standard practise in the U.K. but itdoesn't seem logical to me (I wouldn't know). The worst, however, was the shower. In the two rooms we booked for me and myboyfriend and another couple, the shower water pressure wasn't goodenough and we had to shower with cold water. The hotel is ok in generalbut it doesn't feel like a 4-star hotel at all. The location is alsoquite remote, no shops around and you will need a cab or car to getthere. Cab services are easy to reach, though.

Review 55:The bed was comfortable and the room had a kettle, tea and a tv. It wasalso clean in general.

Review 56:Room maids barged into the room without knocking. Not possible to lock the room from inside (Room 9). Can you provide a "Do not disturb" signs which can be put outside the rooms so room maids do not disturb or barge into the rooms. The breakfast can be improved upon. There was so much pork(sausages and ham) which is not particularly loved by all. Do provide alternatives.

Review 57:The comfort of the hotel and quiet and serene location.

Review 58:Breakfast seemed unorganised and was really unappetising. Definitely not worth £10. However they were accommodating and with allergies.

Review 59:Helpful and enthusiastic staff. Clean and quiet rooms.

Review 60:The sounds from other rooms seemed to carry quite clearly through the hotel. The shower probably took 5-10 minutes to reach a useable temperature. It seemed pretty expensive but I only booked 4 or 5 days in advance so that's too be expected.

Review 61:Clean room, friendly staff. The iron and ironing board were handy. Free WiFi was good.

Review 62:very small bathroom, Our room had a very unpleasant smell, and only had one uncomfortable pillow. Staff were friendly and was ok for our one night stay

Review 63:Perfectly located, nice spacious rooms.

Review 64:The bed was absolutely horrendous, worst bed ever! Felt like the bed was smaller than a double, they called me as I was travelling down to make the payment, the lady at the front desk was not very polite either.

Review 65:Lots of unnecessary noise from cleaners directly outside our door early in the morning and despite the room being booked for 2 adults it was only set for one e.g. 1 bath towel and 1 tea cup.

Review 66:Nice setting, nice rooms, easy to find.

Review 67:Disappointing room - no comfy chair Hot water took five minutes to arrive Awkward shower Noise from other guest rooms

Review 68:Convenient location Good parking Attractive public areas and garden Breakfast Attentive staff

Review 69:Dinner - bad value for money. The guy on reception came to the restaurant to serve us and then he became the chef too. A lot of 'pings' later (from the microwave) we had Thai Green Curry served. It was ok though, but not worth £12.95, which they then added 10% service charge on when we checked out!!! It was good access for Ascot which costs £15.00 each way in a taxi. We felt the breakfast was very over priced and did not have it. The rooms are dated, but comfortable.

Review 70:We had free parking. We got our room early as it was ready. The male staff were very friendly.

Review 71:Rooms are fairly old and quite basic. Now this is reflected in the prices so it did not come too much as a surprise.

Review 72:the breakfast area is nice, although breakfast is really nothing special at all.

Review 73:The shower in our room was very small. My partner is 6ft 3ins and his head touch the top of the shower cubicle!! The shower head would only go as high as his chin. We went to ask to change rooms and the manager/owner was very helpful and allowed him to try 3 other rooms that guests hadn't checked into. All the other rooms were exactly the same. So I would suggest that anyone over 6ft needs to let the hotel know you want a room with a shower cubicle to accommodate your height!!! (Because apparently there are other rooms with bigger showers)

Review 74:The hotel was very clean and was in a great location for what we needed

Review 75:Our room was very dated . The top of the tap fell off the sink , there was a smell of drains in the bathroom .There was a hole in the sheet .Odd bits of furniture in room .

Review 76:the staff were very friendly

Review 77:Only had one small difficulty...car park quite small and very full, especially if returning late at night. probably fine if you have a small car.

Review 78:I only used it as a base as I was out a lot but it was just what I needed and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 79:Room or particularly the bathroom in need of a refurb. The double bed was a challenge - would definitely ask for a king size next time. We gave breakfast a miss at £10 a head as we only required a coffee and a pastry.

Review 80:Local for us and served its purpose as accommodation for two nights after we moved out of our house.

Review 81:The bed was hard as a rock - 4 nights of uncomfortable sleeping I'm afraid.

Review 82:We enjoyed our stay and for the purpose of the stay it was in a great location. Price was good and the house itself looks amazing.

Review 83:Pillow very hard! Breakfast only available till 9.30 on a Sunday. Thought this should be till 10 at least. Room was very cold when we got there.

Review 84:Friendly staff

Review 85:Not a complaint , but an extra lamp for desk/ chest of drawers would be good.

Review 86:Quiet location, very comfortable room with facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent, best hotel restaurant meal for flavour & not over priced. Welcome change from large chain hotels. Definitely stay again, free Wi-Fi & parking a bonus.

Review 87:lots of stairs; single bed; food is prepared to order (including the single croissant and pastry for continental breakfast) and it felt as if everything was done with 'thrift' in mind rather than customer comfort. Little menu choice and quality of food not great. Cold in room at night. Socket not fixed properly to the wall.

Review 88:Convenient location for the leisure centre. Nicely appointed dining room. Check out reception staff kind and thoughtful.

Review 89:Felt like someone's home, didn't feel relaxed CCTV all over the place Locked in at front door 24 hours Poor restaurant menu, I think home cooked and then frozen meals, microwave seemed to be pinging A lot. Power sockets in room hanging off Poor shower / no power

Review 90:Location good Free parking Good wifi

Review 91:The (optional) breakfast was grossly overpriced. £10 a head for a tepid croissant on a hot plate with basic trimmings. A shame given the good value of the place othe. Avoid that and everything else is fine.

Review 92:An easy going B&B. Clean, tidy and no fuss. Good parking.

Review 93:The walls are extremely thin and I could hear every noise, especially because I was placed next to the stairs and I could hear everyone coming back. The toilets make a horrible noise when flushed.

Review 94:Comfortable bed, good shower, perfect location for what I needed. Perfect wifi reception and nice room.

Review 95:I was given a room that clearly not designed to be a bedroom but was thrown together as a way to squeeze another nights money out if a tired old hotel. Room was right by reception and I could hear them talking until very late. Then was woken before 6am by the morning reception work. I complained in the morning and was promised a call by the manager. I'm still waiting..... My advice Is avoid this place!

Review 96:Nothing

Review 97:I booked at very short notice on a Saturday night (and therefore got a good price) and just wanted somewhere close to the location of a party I was attending. Slept well. Can't comment on breakfast as I didn't have any. Staff were helpful, room was clean, beds were comfortable.

Review 98:Where do I start-Room was dusty and not cleaned to an acceptable standard expected for the price and raring given. Overall the room was tired and badly maintained The shower room was not well maintained either, the shower cubicle was badly in need of repair and had been botched with strips of plastic shower and the Perspex roo roof was cracked and dirty. My room was located directly in the reception area within 11/2 metres of the desk and was very noisy from the moment I arrived at 6.30 pm and continued to be so until around 11.30 pm with people naturally walking past to get to their rooms etc and high heels clonking about up and down, and back and forth from the receptionist. Exacerbated by the fact that the reception area and staircase are uncarpeted staircase and the flooring was wooden boards. The room smelt of damp and there was visible damp on the one of the walls. Curtains would not meet together so privacy was not afforded. The curtains were very creased and faded. The carpet was not vacuumed to an acceptable standard and long black hairs were found attached to my foot wear etc. Pillows smelt very bad and were stained I would have advised that these were disposed of rather than provided to other guests. Staff were indifferent I advised the room smelt and the receptionist came back with a plug in freshener which I could not use as the plug sockets in the room were situated at the lowest point and would not allow sufficient room to insert. They took payment before I was shown my room which was strange and could barely acknowledge me when I left the next morning. The was no visible daylight in the room or bathroom as these had all been breeze blocked. I would not have stayed had I know the area but had little option but to stay It was absolutely horrible. I would not recommend this place at all, could not wait to leave.

Review 99:The bed was very lumpy and springs sticking into your back! Very old, stale and tied looking decor. Damp smell throughout the room Not worth £49. Didn't expect luxury but did expect at least 2 cups and saucers for morning coffee in a double room with 2 people sharing. Only one though and only one towel too Left very tied as couldn't sleep in comfort

Review 100:your receptionist was not aware of my booking, also she said she could take a cheque then told me a lie as she said she had to take a card payment, when I asked her why she said there was someone watching?

Review 101:your receptionist was polite and offered me a good room

Review 102:Beds were vey narrow twins, not what I had expected. Bedroom and bathroom could do with a good overhaul

Review 103:We did not stay long enough to try out any other facilities.

Review 104:breakfast poor value for money décor in corridors inefficient mal receptionist who forgot to place our key in safe for our late check in we had to buzz to alert owners at 11.30pm staff I dining room didn't point us in direction of toast, cereal etc. sew holes in bedroom wall ot filled in

Review 105:comfortable bed quirky dining room outside appearance of building decent shower-though small!

Review 106:Beds a little firm, they would benefit from 'toppers' (soft tops) also decorations too old fashioned. Too many colours and patterns. No elevator

Review 107:Manager made an effort to arrange a ground floor room as we had many bags. Fast internet was good. Very nice lounge and restaurant areas.

Review 108:There was blood on the bed throw, and it was ripped. My mum & dad asked for a ground floor room as mum has problems with stairs. When they got their, told the man in the room allocated to them had extended his stay, therefore they were moved upstairs.

Review 109:The room was very clean, the bed was ok and the staff were polite

Review 110:The coffee and not booking a couple of extra nights is all I can say about my stay and I would happily recommend this hotel/guest house to anyone, especially the Executive Suite.

Review 111:The staff were friendly, accommodating and had an excellent grasp of their business as well as local knowledge. Although I felt breakfast costs were a little on the high side, the choice was very good. Wifi was available free and the room was clean and comfortable. The bed was so comfortable that not only did I almost sleep in, but did not want to get up. I would heartily recommend this hotel/guest house to anyone, especially the Executive Suite !!

Review 112:Nothing really maybe the bins could be located out of sight.

Review 113:Parking was very good. Room was very clean, stayed in the tiny single room. Friendly staff. Nice garden area but could do with a bit of attention. I'm used to big hotels and this was a nice change. Basic but a nice feel to the place and very clean

Review 114:Creaking floorboards therefore, as a light sleeper, I was kept awake by people coming and going at all hours of the night. Nobody on reception after hours Breakfast at £10 too expensive if only wanting a continental style

Review 115:Very convenient for attending a wedding. Reasonably priced

Review 116:Whilst there was a attempt to update the rooms, the rooms looked still date with old lamp fittings and second hand furniture. The electrical shower wasn't working well with burst of cold and hot following each other. The bedding was the thin sheets and quilt which was cold and also a bit outdated. I didnt sleep particular well due to the noise from other rooms. All in all, I wouldn't call the stay value for money and pleasant.

Review 117:Good breakfast

Review 118:Staff weren't very friendly or smiley. Lady who let us in didn't say hello then complained a colleague got our paperwork wrong. Had to put a cushion behind headboard and creaked otherwise. Room 7 is at the top of the stairs so a bit more noise than other rooms perhaps. Breakfast was £10 so went elsewhere.

Review 119:Old fashioned, well presented building. Readily available car parking spaces. Powerful shower and nice spacious room - well equipped. You had earl grey tea :)

Review 120:Booking was for 2 and we were provided with one cup/glass/towl etc, but we were quickly given another when we asked Breakfast was expensive so we opted out

Review 121:Good wifi Very clean Homely Polite staff Walking distance from Bracknell and binfield

Review 122:Food in restaurent was horrible. Clearly microwaved meals, receptionist appeared to be all things, including cook.No one in attendance in kitchen, dining room empty, a clear indication of the standard of food.

Review 123:Staff were polite and nice.

Review 124:The bar and restaurant never opened till 6.30pm and when we returned to out hotel by 10.30pm bar was already locked up. Serious lack of staff

Review 125:Was nice and clean. Brilliant power shower.

Review 126:Breakfast wasnt great & staff didntg have a very good command of the English language.. was quite funny when a smoke alarm went off in one of the rooms, the breakfast room just carried on eating as no one knew if they should panic or not - lots of noise from a party of younger people which stopped about mid night - not much parking. But this wouldnt stop me from staying again.

Review 127:Liked the room - reception staff -

Review 128:Evening meal was a little expensive, but the food and service was good.

Review 129:Location was good, on site car parking, my single room was a little small, but it was fine for a one night stay. Breakfast was £10 extra, which was good along with the service.

Review 130:Our daughter left her cuddly toy behind. The hotel found it and put it in the post for us. Very helpful staff Nice atmosphere. Go for the bigger rooms it's worth it

Review 131:After requesting a cot like it said online, we were told they didn't have any so then had to arrange a babysitter to avoid being charged for the room as a last minute cancellation. The staff weren't helpful at resolving this atall. The next thing.. Lots of things in the room were broken after further inspection such as a broken bathroom wall and broken towel rail. On checking out me and my partner were accused of smoking in the room when this was not true and were told we would be charged for something we didn't do! The staff were rude about this and didn't appear to be listening to what we said. Overall would not stay again.

Review 132:When we first arrived the room looked lovely, four poster bed, appeared clean and the room was big and bright. We were told all the information at reception and had a friendly welcome.

Review 133:we booked last minute so only a twin room available-which was on the first floor and the noise of guests leaving in the mornings carried upstairs so if we stayed again would definitely ask for a room away from the stairs.

Review 134:great location,we were visiting family but wanted to stay elsewhere-was easy to get around, the hotel is a bit quirky, lots of unusual furnishings-beautiful lighting, its spotless, and staff very polite. nice little touches, hairdryer, ironing board and tea making facilities.like a home from home.

Review 135:The fact that we couldn't stay longer!

Review 136:Everything, from the moment we booked in to leaving. Dinner was served in the garden at our request, nothing was too much trouble, Thank you for an enjoyable stay

Review 137:Noisy: adjacent room plumbing, creaking floors, thin walls, TV/chatter noise far too intrusive from other rooms. Cold early morning shower. Lack of privacy (ground-floor room by back door and could be looked into from breakfast room+garden).

Review 138:Breakfast
