Reviews for Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel

Review 1:Dirty dated room, was given a dirty un-cleaned room, then had to queue another 30 minutes to speak to someone on reception. The next room we were given wasn't much better, lights didn't work. This hotel is in need of modernisation.

Review 2:Location, staff

Review 3:Great for a stop off on a long journey. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was excellent. It's very close to the motorway but you don't hear it at all.

Review 4:We had a choice of eating our meal surrounded by guests from a wedding party queuing for the bar or in the lobby which was very cold. We chose to stay warm but had to put up with the wedding guests standing next to our table having loud conversations. Surely there should be a separate dining area for guests when the hotel has a wedding going on?

Review 5:Had a room available when we were in need

Review 6:Perhaps over segregation of pets when eating - relegated to tables near the door for all meals, including breakfast, when bar area would have been warmer and cheerier and not on the main thoroughfare.

Review 7:Price, convenient location, took pets, friendly staff

Review 8:Constant noise from nearby M6

Review 9:Convenience of location. Good comfortable & well equipped rooms. Friendly staff - good food for dinner & breakfast. River Ribble trying to create a swimming pool!

Review 10:I reported the television did not work in the morning on return in the evening it still did not work. I asked for the room to be serviced as we were staying for two nights. The beds were made though the toiletries were just left and therefor were not enough for two people.

Review 11:The comfort of the beds was excellent

Review 12:I was charged twice for the room. When I contacted the hotel I was promised phone calls that weren't returned. I was told one thing by the manager for something else to happen. I now have to contact my bank for them to resolve the issue. The staff were not helpful. And the issue still hasn't been resolved.

Review 13:The rooms were very clean

Review 14:As a single traveller. There lined up 7 small tables in the restaurant at the back and in a line and sat all singles on these tables. Very uncomfortable sitting in a line like that. restaurant not considerate to single travellers.

Review 15:Great location. friendly staff and great food

Review 16:the rooms were too cold. I am not sure if the heater wasn't working or what was going on but the room was freezing and there was no temperature control to make it warmer. they didn't have 3 wines we picked on the menu.

Review 17:the staff were pleasant and very helpful and attentive. Tamas was especially helpful with an admin requirement late at night.

Review 18:The first night we were there it seemed to be a disco night and our room was right above the party room so all we heard was thud thud thud for most of the night, fair enough it was a party but as we were travelling with three children I would of thought the hotel could of taken this into account and given us a family room further away - our children were wide awake at midnight!

Review 19:Nice warm feeling to the hotel and child friendly.

Review 20:I booked 3 rooms but when I arrived there was only 1 in my name not sure if this is a fault of booking company or hotel. Luckily two other guests cancelled so able to take their room

Review 21:Location and view from my window of the river ribbon

Review 22:The restaurant was very over priced for a steak bar and ran out of some cuts of steak. We weren't told that the boiler had been damaged by flooding so the hotel was cold. We were given a fan heater but only when we asked if there was a problem. There is a lovely open fire in the bar area but it is never lit.

Review 23:The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 24:Exceptional weather led to Flood risk, though no inconvenience was experienced. Expensive drinks list.

Review 25:Friendly and attentive without being pushy. Lived up to its rating.

Review 26:Kept awake until after midnight due to a function being held. We were informed the hotel was trying to move us at 11:15 and they would call us back, nobody bothered coming back so we were left to listen to the thumping music until after midnight! The rooms and bathroom are a little tired and could do with a good clean.

Review 27:Computers were running slow at the time. Queued to book out

Review 28:Great breakfast. Very comfortable room. Everything worked. Free wifi. On site parking. Enjoyable one night stay. Nothing to dislike

Review 29:A lot of noise from corridor due to gap under the door. Quite a bit of dust, bath screen was really grim needed a good clean, carpets were stained, room small, room very far away from reception

Review 30:Price was good, bath and shower excellent, TVs and channels fine, bed was good.

Review 31:The hotel had problems with the heating so parts of it were very cold, including our room. Not sure how long this went on for but it wasn't repaired in the 2 days we were there! We were given an electric heater when we complained but our stay was not as comfortable as we'd hoped. Also a lot of the staff were foreign, which isn't a problem but their English was poor, this made ordering in the bar + restaurant difficult. Resulting in us getting the wrong order on a couple of occasions.

Review 32:The food was quite nice. Close to M6.

Review 33:The decorations and facilities within the rooms were not up to standard having stayed in similar grade hotels both in the UK and abroad. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone to stay over for a night.

Review 34:The hotel restaurant was great and the receptionist desk staff were very attentive.

Review 35:I stay here regularly on my way from southwest Wales to Scotland as it is a convenient halfway stopover and I have always found both the hotel and staff meet my needs.

Review 36:The bar area was very cold making it uncomfortable. The temperature outside was cold so would have been nice to be cosy and warm in the bar.

Review 37:Friendly attentive staff. Clean, warm and very comfy rooms

Review 38:Unfortunately the stay was let-down by the staff on reception. In my opinion they were not particularly friendly and did not cope well if something was not quite as it should be. On arrival their system was running slow and this caused the staff get into a bit of a panic and as a result not very friendly. On departure the system was still running slow so they could not check me out. I gave details on which card to charge the room bill to but still I was harassed with at least 7 calls and 2 e-mails, all made/sent while I was driving home. Then when I could return the call safely the person I spoke to had no idea what I was calling about.

Review 39:The hotel is in a great location for the M6, rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast and restaurant staff were very efficient and friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 40:Took an age to check in, and same to check out. Seems there were IT issues, but not acceptable. Only 1 (new) member of staff working when checked in, and she did her best, but was faced with a long line of disgruntled people.

Review 41:Room good, but walk from Reception was rather a long way!

Review 42:The bed wasn't very comfortable and it wasn't well sign posted to the hotel from the motorway

Review 43:The food was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful

Review 44:Serious problems with the food (burnt, some items not delivered, some items cold, no prices given for wines). After the first night we decided not to risk the hotel food in the evening so that we were only disappointed at breakfast. Hotel poorly signed and hard to locate.

Review 45:A spacious room and comfortable bed.

Review 46:We booked a double room and got a family room, so although bed was very comfy it felt like a small double.

Review 47:Clean Rooms,Comfy Beds, good breakfast although won't have paid £17.50 for it.

Review 48:How can you leave someone who has only worked for four weeks at the hotel on reception at 8am and have no one else at all around to help when everyone is trying to check out!!!

Review 49:The only downside was the distance from town and other options for dining.

Review 50:The Trout was clean, comfortable with friendly helpful staff. The dining was very good.

Review 51:No indoor pool/leisure club (unusual for a 'MacDonald's' Hotel).

Review 52:Better than previous visit. This time our room had less M6 traffic noise & we had no power cut. Dinner (a carvery) was excellent with good choice, quality and quantity.

Review 53:convenient, clean and suitable for our needs for an overnight stay, close to Preston but also close to Motorway network, without being disturbed by traffic noise

Review 54:Very poor waiting staff in restaurant for evening meal. Seemed little communication as who was supposed to be serving taking orders etc. Breakfast was miles better.

Review 55:Decent room but gave me family room for single person. Evening meal and breakfast were delicious . Good car park and easy access to main roads.

Review 56:Constant noise from nearby motorway. No running water for several hours. Shortened dinner menu for a Sunday. No indoor pool.

Review 57:Staff did their best to overcome a problem, which was outside of their control (power cut & no running water)

Review 58:The room was rather hot, even with the window open. Air conditioning is needed, or at the very least, a fan.

Review 59:Very friendly, polite and helpful staff. Great location for our travel plans. We ate in the restaurant and the meal was fine. It was great to be able to bring our dog to the hotel.

Review 60:As a family the rooms were to far apart from each other. I did not appreciate the distance I had to get to my room.

Review 61:I enjoy the food on offer, and would stay again, and would also recommend your hotel.

Review 62:The toilet extractor fan was very noisy.

Review 63:Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely room, clean and tidy and had an amazing selection for breakfast to choose from. We arrived at the hotel late due to a last minute booking at amazing price.

Review 64:I booked the Tickled Trout Hotel for myself and a colleague as we had a meeting in Preston the following morning. When my colleague arrived at 11pm he was told that there was no room for him as the hotel was overbooked, very poor. It then took 25 minutes to queue and check out in the morning and when I questioned the previous nights problem I was met by a very unapologetic member of staff who gave me the impression it happened all the time. I won't be staying there again in a hurry.

Review 65:Reception could have been more helpful, dragged out swapping us from twin to double room & didn't volunteer the car park exit code, had to abandon car & go back inside to ask!

Review 66:Why not open up access to river for walking along bank? Very noisy fan in bathroom and mattress quite hard - fine for one night.

Review 67:Staff were terrific on reception, bar and restaurant.

Review 68:Wash hand basin blocked up, extract fan in bathroom not working - raised with management directly - completely ignored.... not even looked at during stay.

Review 69:Location

Review 70:Lengthy check in procedure, staff didn't give me any details about breakfast or dinner. No hot water, room cold. Asked 3 times to see if they could fix or move me. Staff didn't seem to have a clue. Checked in around 6pm, no hot water until 10.45pm. Room very tired, hairs in bathroom. At check out, unable to give me an invoice and now 5 days later still waiting for it to come through email. Generally a very poor hotel.

Review 71:Location was ok

Review 72:My husband needs to use a wheelchair. Access to our room was a problem because it was necessary to go down a number of steps to reach it and there was no lift. In order to gain entrance to our room and the main part of the hotel, we had to go through an emergency door into the car park and ask a member of staff to open the emergency door in order to return to our room. It was a real hassle. .

Review 73:The bed was extremely comfortable and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal very enjoyable.

Review 74:took 5 people Monday 12th oct. for dinner but waited much too long for meal to be ready which spoiled the evening. steps on way to lift difficult as I use a walking stick.room dull and dreary Too much brown but comfortable.

Review 75:food very good and service (except opposite)

Review 76:N/A

Review 77:This hotel is situated next to the M6 but far enough away not to have the traffic noise. The rooms, food, are excellent but most of all is the great staff - really nice friendly helpful people

Review 78:Unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night. We both were very pleased from our arrival to check out. Could not find anything to be negative about. Will definitely stay again and recommend highly.

Review 79:Just off the motorway but not clearly signposted...ended up in Preston and did a U turn! Food bland and not much choice if you just want a snack! Room at the end of a dark corridor so had to use car key light to locate key! Breakfast again bland, lots of choice but boring! Had to join the Cloud to get Wifi

Review 80:Comfy room, large and nice bathroom. Friendly staff.

Review 81:I booked an 'executive' room. There was nothing executive about it. Also was told that there was wheelchair access, there sort of was, but only if you can mange steep gradients, stairs and high thresholds

Review 82:Staff were friendly

Review 83:Small bar of soap is a waste, sure most of it gets thrown away, could offer liquid hand soap instead? Signage into the hotel from the roundabout needs to be better, assume name of hotel has changed but signage not updated yet.

Review 84:Very clean and comfortable.

Review 85:No bad experience

Review 86:Friendly, helpful staff who were very welcoming to us and our dog. Spacious, clean and comfortable room. Food excellent, both dinner and breakfast, value for money.

Review 87:Our bedroom was noisy in the early hours from the next door guests. The first morning breakfast was manic with too many guests all arriving at the same time.

Review 88:Location near to motorway. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast selection good.

Review 89:Full a la carte menu wasn't available and we were pushed to have carvery, we had steak and there was only a very small choice of deserts which were on the carvery and we were charged the same price as the a la carte menu

Review 90:No way of avoiding having to carry suitcases up stairs due to split levels - admittedly relatively few steps, but awkward. Apparent shortage of staff, and extremely long wait for our evening meal (booked for 7pm, food came at almost 8pm, though there were few people in the large restaurant), which was of indifferent quality for the price. However, we would stay here again - even though it is relatively expensive - for convenience's sake.

Review 91:Very convenient location just off motorway, but actually on the river, with attractively green and open views (ask for a room on this side!)

Review 92:Lack of staff only 1 person to serve bar, bar food and supply drinks to restaurant Lack of staff in kitchen, evening meal booked for 8.15pm (19.9.15) main meal arrived 10pm lack of staff to serve in restaurant Staff tried their best but were obviously under pressure not their fault, dont spoil a great hotel due to staffing issues The following day all hands on deck and no problems at all! Thank you to all staff who worked over and above to try and compensate for the shortfall it was appreciated, but not at expense of customer service.

Review 93:Excellent service at reception Staff polite Location Food

Review 94:All was excellent.

Review 95:Delicious breakfast. Very friendly staff Stephanie on reception was excellent. Bed comfortable, tea facilities delicious, and room lovely.

Review 96:Wife ordered a steak medium but most of it was not cooked at all, we did raise this with staff but didn't make too much of a fuss, we would though have expected not to have been billed for her dessert but this didn't happen, other people may have been very angry with such service, a chef should be able to cook a steak it's quite basic, this did tarnish the stay somewhat, but it was only a stop over after taking our son to University rather than a break/holiday so not critical, likely to be coming back though at some time so may consider looking elsewhere

Review 97:Nice room and facilities

Review 98:Prices for food and drink pretty high Breakfast selection and presentation limited

Review 99:Room and view of river Bed very comfortable Resteraunt nicely set out

Review 100:Poor service from barman who could hardly speak english, was laxy and didnt order our desserts, no charisma at all

Review 101:The food was amazing, the Crayfish salad was to die for, breakfast was best we have ever had

Review 102:The only problem was an issue with the water supply which was outwith the control of the hotel. We did ask for water for teeth cleaning which never arrived but we just boiled water in the kettle and used that.

Review 103:The staff were brilliant. Very friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was great. I can especially recommend the carvery. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 104:The bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly with hair on the floor and round the sink. The service at breakfast was poor. They had a couple of cycling teams staying that had taken over the car park too

Review 105:Excellent location and very nice decoration

Review 106:excessive bar charges ... don`t think it`s necessary to over inflate the bar tariff. 1 x pint amstel 2 x large dry white wine anda double jamesons ... £29.00 !!!! No wonder the bar was quiet.

Review 107:accommodation , food , staff from check in through housekeeping and restaurant.

Review 108:overpriced for very average food, drinks prices £8-10 for a glass of wine...not good

Review 109:great location just off the motorway, room very spacious and comfortable, breakfast very good

Review 110:High price of wine at the bar. £7.95 for small glass of wine. Too high. Sorry

Review 111:Staff were very good. Especially at breakfast. And reception staff at checkout. So helpful

Review 112:Price of wine at £8 a glass.Room was looking over a flat roof with air conditioning units outside window.wiring hanging of wall and over flat roof.spoilt the veiw. breakfast wasnt hot it was only warm.

Review 113:Staff and facilitys

Review 114:Old fashioned style and bathroom window didnt open snd loo squeezed into a tight spot. Signage poor and even getting into car park was an excercise in patience

Review 115:Location next to m6 was good for us having to go further north early the following morning but that might not suit most.

Review 116:No water in the room when there was a water issue Paying for tea and coffee at the bar when we couldn't get it in the room Bed was very solid and hard to relax on, one pillow was to little and two was to much (never had that before) (Morning) Having to chase bar staff for breakfast rolls twice, then getting the order wrong

Review 117:Carvary and restraint staff were very good and helpful

Review 118:Shower did not work properly (but this could happen anywhere) however complaint was handled professionally and sympathetically.

Review 119:Convenient for breaking journey to Scotland.

Review 120:Did not like handy man having too long conversation with guests. Nice to be polite but not to over do it

Review 121:Reception staff excellent. And chef who produced dinners and cavary was 1st class

Review 122:Dirty toilet in one room Long queue for checkout Staff not familiar with restaurant Breakfast chaotic Delivered wrong newspaper (to others too)

Review 123:Very convenient for M6 Comfy bed View of river

Review 124:Booked four rooms, specifically requested one with disable facilities, but did not get it. My mother's health suffered due to climbing stairs as lifts were not direct from ground floor and shower was not for appropriate for disabled person. Had to buy own drinking water at times, expensive food in restaurant, not enough disable car park spaces, hotel can not sufficiently provide disable room and facilities, location is noisy and no air con in room due to which room window had to be left open and all traffic noise comes in. Not a good experience and would not recommend.

Review 125:We'd booked a couple of events in the area for our 46th wedding anniversary, so rather than travel home each night (Only 20 miles) we decided to book two nights at the Tickled Trout. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. the room was bigger than most we've stayed in at other hotels, and, more than one comfortable chair to sit on. We ate in on the Saturday night and went for the two course carvery. The beef was so tender it melted in the mouth. We've used one of their resorts in Scotland, but I don't think it will be long before we use their hotels again.

Review 126:Vegetarian meal was same menu sat and sun night would have liked more choice also general water problem (needed to be boiled) bottled water should have been placed in all rooms for cleaning teeth etc

Review 127:Food very tasty and good quality

Review 128:The only down side was the noise from the motorway. This is a double edged sword, as the convenience of the location, just off the motorway was a great advantage to us!

Review 129:Very nice hotel. Good facilities. Our bedroom had a lovely view of the river and beyond.

Review 130:I am disabled and although this had been discussed there were several stairs which is a problem for me.

Review 131:Pleasant staff but one or two things showed lack of training.

Review 132:breakfast buffet on thursday 20 august was very poor. The plates were cold, no butter, mould on the toast, no mushrooms had to wait for eggs and the beans were only luke warm. We did inform the reception the next morning when we settled the bill. WE question whether we would use this hotel again

Review 133:Duvets on bed just too heavy and too hot for summertime ..!!!!!!!!! Having to buy water due to water being contaminated was not acceptable, hotel should have provided residents...

Review 134:Room quite comfortable, except bed covers. Staff very friendly. Dining room too expensive.

Review 135:Had to wait 10 mins at bar on arrival for a drink.Felt rooms are a bit small. After waking at 5 to leave fairly early found kettle in room not working. Windows was open and difficult to close easily resulting in outside noise from extractors on roof.

Review 136:Nice decorated room

Review 137:The Postcode for the hotel is not clear and covers the whole of the road from M6 to Blackburn city centre. Needs a clearer address for a sat nav.

Review 138:Staff very helpful and the location of the hotel is great (when we found it). Food was great, evening meal and breakfast. Would recommend.
