Reviews for Hotel Matina

Review 1:Nothing bad about the hotel The music from the Pool Bar needs to be updated somewhat The Resort was pretty good apart from the soliciting of the restaurant waiters trying to entice us into their premises Leaving from Santorini Airport was horrendous experience

Review 2:The friendliness of the Staff The siting of the hotel

Review 3:Breakfast buffet was very limited and portions were barely enough for all the guests

Review 4:Matina is the perfect Greek family hotel, it felt exactly like home. The staff and especially JP at the front desk were amazing, very friendly, welcoming and with wonderful advice about the island's food and go to places.

Review 5:There was a lot of choice for breakfast but would have been nice to have something hot, even toast. However there was plenty to eat so we were probably bring a but picky.

Review 6:Staff were incredibly friendly, courteous and helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

Review 7:Hotel Matina is great! It is 3 minutes from the best beach, very clean and pretty rooms, pool and the reception area. But what is incredible- it is the stuff!!! Everybody was so helpful, kind and did everything to make our vacation cool! Special thanks to Jean Pierre!!!

Review 8:Friendliness of all the staff, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was close enough to everything in the area but far enough away for a peaceful stay. Very close to the bus pick up point and information provided by the hotel made it very easy to get to places

Review 9:--Charged 30 EUR extra per night for a toddler. That was quite excessive, given that other similarly priced hotels in Santorini didn't charge. --The professional photos make everything look bigger and nicer. --Just average facilities, very average breakfast, at an OK location. Seems overpriced, and I honestly didn't understand why the rating is so high, compared to other much better hotels in Santorini at Similar or lower prices.

Review 10:--Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Review 11:The free wifi was a bit slow, but adequate. If you are a light sleeper you may be a woken earlier by cars on the street but we found that having the aircon on blocked all noise out and allowed us to sleep as long as we wanted.

Review 12:The staff really were excellent - helpful, full of advice when needed, always cleaned the room perfectly. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask e.g. tea wasn't layed out at breakfast but they would brew you a fresh pot if you ask.The bed was the largest i think i have ever stayed in and comfortable. Nice, simple decoration and not kitsch. The pool was good with a lovely view of the mountain. The breakfast was the highlight though - lots of options including freshly baked little cakes. The location was very good - away from the 'strip' but a 2 minute walk from the beach and with good restuarants even closer! Kamari is a good place to explore the rest of the island too - far cheaper to be based here and visit the rest rather than stay in oia. This hotel is a class above 3 star.

Review 13:Loud music from the poolside bar. Don't book a room overlooking the pool as you will hear the traffic from the road and music from the car. Wifi was poor in the room

Review 14:Breakfast was good. Location was perfect.

Review 15:The location was excellent and the staff at the hotel was very friendly. Jon-Pierre, the manager was extremely helpful and very welcoming. Being a family run hotel the professionalism was exceptional and yet warming. The hotel was very clean and breakfast was lovely. Highly recommended for a relaxed stay with great access to Kamari beach.

Review 16:No bad experience but a kettle for tea and coffee in rooms would be appreciated. There is a fridge so surprised to see no kettle!

Review 17:The owners and staff - Mr and Mrs Vangelis run a tight ship. Ably assisted by charming, efficient manager J-P and his team (a special mention for Maia and her amazing cocktails and lovely smile) they make you feel instantly at home. I'm hooked:) See you next year!

Review 18:Staff was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Location was quiet but only a minute walk from the beach and all the restaurants. Breakfast Buffett every day was great with many homemade items.

Review 19:Nothing other than the fact that our holiday there came to an end

Review 20:Hotel Matina is a family run small hotel. It was spotlessly clean andthe staff could not do enough to please. Some reviews have complainedabout the size of the showers but I am 5 feet nothing in my stockingfeet and I found them perfectly fine. Due to the size it feels veryintimate. Lovely pool area with lots of flowers and greenery. We willdefinitely return.

Review 21:Great location, fez stes from Kamari black beach. Family owned, staff atfront desk is always ready to help and give very good advices abouthighlights of the island, we really appreciated that. Special thank tothe receptionist of the night shift for the best suggestions. Goodbreakfast, home made cakes, greek yogurt, fresh fruir ecc Room was bigenough, bathroom with smalto window and nice balcony. Happy with thechoice, totally recommended!

Review 22:A triple room was sold as being suitable for 4, but even for 3 people the room would have been extremely small. When travelling with luggage more than a handbag, there is no space to place it. The double bed was a twin-bed with gap between mattresses. Very small and very basic bathroom with shower & curtain... Boring breakfast with milk cartons on buffet. Nobody bothered helping to carry luggage to our room upstairs.

Review 23:Friendly & helpful management. Quiet location. Big balcony. Good location Pool

Review 24:Swimming pool could be cleaner and shower a little larger

Review 25:The staff was incredible. We were completely lost in terms of where togo to eat but the staff was truly there to help us. Extremely friendlyand always reaching out to ask us how things are and give us more tips. This make our holiday absolutely fantastic.

Review 26:I found it weird that they make you leave your keys when you leave in a basket in the lobby. They also keep your passport for your entire stay which I did not like as when we left they forgot to give it back to us! They email me and eventually set something up with our second hotel but did not even offer to drop them off at our new hotel. You have to pay for all the transfer from the port or airports, or other hotels. Some hotels in Santorini offer complimentary taxis and transfers so look for those as you will save a lot of money! We paid over 50 euros to get to the hotel from the port and then to another hotel upon check out. My boyfriend enjoyed the breakfast they made (he eats anything) but I thought it was not good at all, I did not even eat it the second day. There are a lot of other hotels that are right on Kamari Beach and are nicer. This one is only a few minute walk to the beach though, so its not terrible.

Review 27:I loved the pool. The pictures make it seem like it is a lot bigger than it is but it is an ok size still. The beds were very comfy and the rooms were good too. The staff helped me call my second hotel to confirm location and transfer which was nice.

Review 28:Some rooms are noisy because of the main road.:( But they was given an other room for us, so staff was kind.

Review 29:Location is good, the beach is only a few minutes walk, staff is very nice and helpfull, pool is perfect! The hotel and rooms are nice and clean.

Review 30:The shower in our bathroom was extremely small and very difficult to move around freely in!

Review 31:Lovely hotel in a great location. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Pool area was very well maintained with a beautiful garden. We were lucky enough to have a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the pool area, so could have drinks on there while getting ready to go out in the evening. Plenty of places to eat within a 5-10 minute walk, the chap on reception also gave great restaurant recommendations.

Review 32:What's not to like!?

Review 33:Beautiful hotel and beautiful staff who make you feel at home. Very homely and so friendly including the boss / owner & not forgetting the dog!

Review 34:I highly recommend this family-run hotel. Everything was perfect: the room was clean, the staff was extremely helpful, the breakfast was delicious and various, the hotel is very close to the beach, the pool area was peaceful and relaxing. I really had a wonderful staying there. Thank you! P.S. I would really like to thank every person in the hotel for making my short holiday an unforgettable experience. Thank you for my birthday surprise - I will never forget it! If I come to Santorini again, I will surely choose the same hotel. Marcela.

Review 35:NOTHING TO DISLIKE.

Review 36:BEAUTIFUL HOTEL IN QUIET LOCATION. SPOTLESSLY CLEAN WITH LOVELY ROOMS. GORGEOUS GARDENS AND A LOVELY POOL. VERY HELPFUL STAFF, WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE CONSIDERING A HOLIDAY IN KAMARI.

Review 37:No complaints

Review 38:A family feel about the place from the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were looked after. Reception was super welcoming and no request was a problem, booked all our tours for us, arranged our late luggage to be delivered from airport to hotel, booked our Ferry to Rhodes for us and arranged the transfer to port. Our ferry wasnt until 2am, but they allowed us to stay use the pool and facilities until transfer was ready at 1am..,free of charge. The hotel handy to all shopsm restaurants, and beach. Absolutely amazing, i will always stay here!!!

Review 39:Breakfast could have been a little more varied. Same fruit every day. Shower in bathroom was small.

Review 40:The staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean with fresh towels/pool towels every day. Toiletries provided. Poor area lovely. Beds were very comfy.

Review 41:The staff were very helpful and friendly, always willing to help and offer suggestions. The pool is great. The breakfast was very tasty and plenty of food, lots of lovely places to eat it too. The rooms were a good size with A/C. Great location for the beach.

Review 42:Suggestion: may be can give a clear instruction how to tell the bus driver which bus stop to stop and the landmark near by. The bus driver stopped us at Kamari Beach and we walked about 20-25 mins with our heavy luggage to find the Matina hotel.

Review 43:Like the home design of Matina Hotel. Hotel is very clean. Friendly staffs.

Review 44:Very small shower which I'm sure many hotels are the same.

Review 45:Very helpful staff always making sure we had everything we needed to make our stay a great one. Great pool area to relax after a big day looking at the sights. Close to the beach without being noisy.

Review 46:Bad wi-fi connection, lack of space in the room and bathroom, same breakfast every day.

Review 47:Nice and friendly personnel, very good location, quiete, romanic and coisy atmosphere, very good music in the pool.

Review 48:These things made no real difference to our stay but worth noting - the bathrooms are small and basic but I assume this is typical of Greek islands. The balcony is shared (again, not an issue but unexpected) and the safe in the room has to be paid for. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Review 49:Hotel Matina is a lovely hotel with a real family feel. The staff could not do enough for us and made our trip so enjoyable. They also arranged airport transfers for us. The pool area is absolutely lovely as is the pool bar - lovely food and drink for good prices. Good facilities in the room and brilliant location - lots of shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Would recommend this hotel for friends, couples and families alike. Thank you Hotel Matina for a wonderful stay.

Review 50:Me and my partner stayed in this hotel for 10 days. It was even better than our expectations and we will definitely go back one day! The staff was very friendly and gave us lots of advice on where to visit. Some evenings the hotel owner organised a car and took the hotel guests out for an evening trip. We visit the red beach, the old city, had wine tasting in the sunset, and eat Greek cuisine. The whole trip was free of charge, we only paid for what we ate and drank. Not only the staff was outstanding but the hotel was also very lovely. The room was very nice and cleaned every day, with a comfortable bed, air con, balcony, fridge - everything you needed. Everything feels close since the island is pretty small. The buses will take you everywhere and we managed to visit most of the island on our stay. The bus-stop is just outside the hotel and will take you to the main city Fira for only €1.60 in 20 min. I highly recommend this destination to anyone, Santorini is lovely! And hotel Matina will make your stay even more amazing.

Review 51:Friendliness of the staff. Very clean and well maintained hotel. The owner collected us from and took us to the airport which was great. He also took our group out in the mini bus one evening for a traditional Greek meal in the mountains. Excellent !

Review 52:We would prefer if there were a water kettle in the room to make our own hot drinks.

Review 53:The hotel is located near to a lot of amneties and walking distance to the beach. The staff were ao friendly and made our stay very personalise. We love the hospitality by the staff there.

Review 54:The staff was so helpful, warm, and welcoming! Any question we had they were ready to help. The customer service alone set Hotel Matina apart along with the location (2 min walk from beach) and facilities!

Review 55:Only downside; the pool was empty. We did staff towards the end of April, so just before the main season started, but did expect the pool to be usable.

Review 56:The location was excellent, near all the amenities and beach, with easy access to bus services to other parts of the island. The staff were excellent. always happy to help and offer advice on trips etc.

Review 57:I did not like the bathroom , the floor flooded every time you had a shower which I found it very unsafe for my 76 year old mother .

Review 58:The pool was really nice and hotel was in a great location

Review 59:Friendly and very helpful staff, great location, awesome breakfast spread, comfy rooms with aircon, laundry service, relaxing environment. Will be back for sure!

Review 60:I tried to think of something, but I can't!

Review 61:Santorini is a beautiful island, easily the best one we have visited in Greece, and our holiday was made all the more enjoyable by staying at the Hotel Matina. It is perfectly situated, about 200m from the front, with lots of tavernas on your doorstep, including Danas just to the left of the hotel, which is a must to visit. Please say hello to Stella, who is amazing hostess. The hotel's staff could not do enough for us, and were a font of knowledge. The room was cleaned every day, and had a lovely terrace. The buffet breakfast was very good, and could be eaten on the terrace or around the pool. The pool and pool bar were ideal for a lazy day, or for coming back to in the evening, and the backdrop of the mountain was breathtaking. I could go on, but please find out for yourself; you will not be disappointed.

Review 62:Very uncomfortable and small bed meant we didn't sleep at allwell on the last night of our holiday. Not very happy considering 89euro cost!

Review 63:Staff were friendly and had lots of information to share. Pool area wasnice and good breakfast.

Review 64:Wonderful experience! Santorini for me now is a safe destination is known. is the third time that I decided to spend the holidays island. I assure you that this time I was really HAPPY AND SATISFIED. I stayed at the Matina for 12 nights and I really felt at home! The establishment is run by a lovely family personally followed the lady Matina. To our surprise the structure is even more beautiful and cared for from the photos! Every detail is taken care of, clean and cute! The pool is really the strong point, so I can not do less than a swim after the beach! Do not miss the rich breakfast buffet is varied, something for everyone! A few steps from Kamari Beach (which I think is the best place to stay on the island) and 3 km from the airport. You will find them in everything from restaurants to nightlife, the right mix with the beautiful Greek atmosphere! A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE !!!

Review 65:Nothing to complain about!

Review 66:very clean hotel, the bathroom is very clean and simply furnished with a shower curtain, shampoo and shower gel, towels are changed daily, it will be made available separately beach towels at the front desk, Intercontinental breakfast with Greek specialties, tea is available on request, very friendly service, daily housekeeping, despite the proximity to the airport and the promenade very quiet (I have slept with open balcony door every night), air conditioning in rooms and Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, a few meters from the beach, promenade, to car, ATV and scooter rental stations, the stay was like a family and all are very helpful in planning trips, the beach is very clean! Supermarkets are also close to the hotel. The hotel itself is very quiet, you could hear nothing from the other guests.

Review 67:The only thing and it's not really that bad was the shower a bit too small BUT clean and that's the main thing.

Review 68:Location close to shops beach and restaurants. The pool and bar was awesome we enjoyed spending cool nights around the pool having our drinks and frappe until late. The staff was very helpful for all our needs, we would recommend this Hotel to family and friends definitely.

Review 69:Nothing

Review 70:I had forgotten my passport and luggage on a boat tour and matina had made sure I got it back and delievered to me at the port as I was about to leave. Had a great stay everything was perfect! Great location to the beach and nice restuarants on the beach strip.

Review 71:The airport & port transfers are expensive. The airport transfer is particularly so - taking only about 10 minutes & costing €16. This is especially expensive - bearing in mind lots of hotels on the island offer this service free of charge. I would also avoid the snacks offered at the pool bar - the worse Greek Salad I've ever been presented.

Review 72:On balance I would recommend this hotel - with the staff being especially pleasant and helpful.

Review 73:The pool area is fantastic and a lovely place to relax. The pool bar serves a great menu of drinks and snacks all with very friendly service. My husband particularly enjoyed the frozen beer glasses! The staff are extremely helpful, bending over backwards to accommodate our requests and help with transfers, etc. The hotel is a very short walk to the beach with a huge choice of restaurants. We had a brilliant time and would really recommend Hotel Matina!

Review 74:the rooms looked quite old, the bed was small, shower unconfortable and you can't avoid splashing water all over the place when you shower.

Review 75:if you're a swimmer (either in the sea or swimming pool) - it's a good base location. Note that the great views are on the other side of the island. The pool area is nice, service is great.

Review 76:Expensive in comparison to the other Islands we went to however that could be typical of Santorini. Very small shower

Review 77:Wonderful staff who went out of their way to recommend the best tours as well as ensure we were aware of the local amenities. Great location- 2 mins from beach and bus stop which goes regularly to Fira.

Review 78:The showers are almost unusable. We have never seen such a small shower. No bars of soap or wash cloths provided. Because of small size, the bathroom floor always got soaking wet. Water temp also fluctuated greatly while showering regardless of time of day or night.

Review 79:The family that runs this small property is lovely. Very accommodating. The location is close to everything yet away a bit from all the pedestrian traffic

Review 80:Lovely friendly atmosphere, all the staff are very chatty and remember who you are. The restaurant recommendations were very good. Also, they put a lovely baby cot in our room. It is great for babies. Just a really nice hotel.
