Reviews for Bryn Howel Hotel

Review 1:Bathing needed up-dating, but it was clean and everything worked!

Review 2:I got this deal for £49 for two of us, 1 night stay with breakfast. Wonderful! Our room had a view over the garden, the hotel is in a ideal place by the canal, so a lovely walk to be had to LLangollen,it's not too far from home, and the breakfast was really nice.

Review 3:the original room, room no.1, we were given, only had one chair between the two of us, the television was old and too small, the room we ended up in no. 14 had no phone for room service, the shower was very dated, noisy extractor fan, mouse hole in skirting in bathroom, needs more attention when cleaning, i.e. taps, ledges, flies on window cills and cobwebs.

Review 4:because of the possibility of being disturbed by a party going on next door there was no problem when we asked if we could change our room. in room 14 which was a better room, the bed was comfortable and the twin armchairs were great. staff were lovely, food fantastic.

Review 5:The location and the hotel itself, plus the friendliness of the staff. I was attending the funeral of my uncle and aunty in Rhos, and staying in such a lovely hotel helped with dealing with such an unhappy occasion - Thank you!

Review 6:Self service breakfast so you can eat all you want with a good variety, very pleasant and helpful staff. Lovely building and grounds. Gorgeous little niche - what more could you want. Fantastic break

Review 7:Decor is a bit dated. The welcome manual was poor. We were happy with the room itself, but it was very noisy you could here staff in the kitchen below and also the vent from the kitchen ran outside our window so we had the noise from that till late evening and also cooking smells! The hotel was nowhere near full so felt we had been given this room as we had a small dog with us!!

Review 8:Radio didn't work but not of great consequence!

Review 9:Beautiful setting - hotel Easy to find Spacious room, good facilities Quiet room & beautiful view Very helpful & obliging staff Acres of parking space Prompt & efficient checking in & out procedures

Review 10:Bathroom clean but tatty, television not working. Breakfast disappointing, no buffet which was understandable as the hotel seemed very quiet at the time we stayed, we were asked if we would like "scrambled eggs or something" , could maybe do with a menu if buffet not on.

Review 11:stunning views, beautiful location.

Review 12:We were stuck in the lift which was not a pleasant experience even though it was only about 15minutes for me and a lifetime for my husband. After being told that there would be an adjustment on our bill in the morning, we still paid the booked price. Many people waited a long time at breakfast for the bacon and eggs. We wouldn't stay there again.

Review 13:Booking in and out was easy, and there was plenty of parking available.

Review 14:Needs updating drastically the bathroom suite was older than my grandmother. Breakfast was a nightmare as there wasn't enough of everything for everyone and the queue was more matching to Alton towers!

Review 15:Location was great

Review 16:Rooms very shabby. Yellow ring around bath. Old style portable tv would expect flat screen. Water coming through windows. My Aunt and Uncle got stuck in the lift. Breakfast poor waiting ages because insufficient amounts cooked. Asked for vegetarian sausages said no. Very over priced. Would like a refund. We were attending a wedding nearby and chose hotel for its proximity. They should pay people to stay there!!

Review 17:The location

Review 18:We missed the curfew to get back into the hotel so we had to climb in our window which we luckily left open. To be fair though that was entirely our own fault.

Review 19:The staff were lovely, the food was delicious and the grounds and surrounding area absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend.

Review 20:had difficulty actually finding the main entrance as it wasn't signposted and it appeared that the door required a key code access was actually the main door.

Review 21:The staff were helpful and welcoming. we ate in the restaurant and the portions were huge! and very tasty, the views from the room and restaurant were stunning. lots of car parking space.

Review 22:room very tired t.v. needs updating . gardens looked neglected, we have stayed here before but unfortunately would not return unless rooms improved sorry.

Review 23:location fantastic breakfast very good and staff very pleasant. Excellent value for what we paid.

Review 24:Web page shows fine dining. Dinner was poor, great thick slabs of grey tasteless meat and the same selection of boiled tasteless vegetables each night.Same selection of sweets each night (cake and custard). Told by reception it was a different chef to normal. We doubt his Qualifications.

Review 25:Public areas.

Review 26:No working fan in en suite bathroom. No hot water in room 4 on last day, Friday 30th. Hot-tap in basin will not turn off fully. Basic breakfast - no fresh fruit, porridge or fried bread. Toaster dead-slow! No Wi-fi except in reception.

Review 27:Relaxed and laid-back attitude. Great 'leather' Sofa and chairs in reception. Quiet.

Review 28:Bed was a little uncomfortable and noisy. Plumbing was a little noisy. When booking I thought it was in Llangollen... in fact it's about 2.5 miles away. A nice walk in though!

Review 29:Breakfast room views and nearby walks. We were offered a free upgrade as hotel was under-occupied. We didn't take this up as room appeared fine and we'd started unpacking.

Review 30:The bedroom and bathroom were tired and in need of some TLC. we were unable to use the shower which just hung from the wall!

Review 31:The location and view were superb!

Review 32:Breakfast sausages under cooked not just us complaining.Staff not interested and unattentive at breakfast.

Review 33:The location for walks along the Llangollen canal either way.

Review 34:This is an expensive hotel - what was called a suite was really a double room with a sofa in it - the lift was unreliable, the carpet in the room grubby and worn and loose on the floor, and the kettle in the room so dirty we could not use it. It had never been descaled and was black and slimy inside . The meal in the restaurant was also very ordinary - frozen tasteless shrimp for a prawn cocktail , a medium rare steak that was cooked to a cinder.

Review 35:The location is brilliant and the bar meal was excellent . The staff at reception were very helpful.

Review 36:Bedroom needed updating. Furniture badly marked. Curtains and bedding looked "tired". Decor in need of refreshing.

Review 37:Lovely located. Good food

Review 38:Depends on the room you get. Those in the main house are good but those in the wing are looking tired. If you get a last minute deal fine but for the full fee it's all a bit flat.

Review 39:Location, ambiance

Review 40:Hotel was verging on tired. Lift not working, bed old and noisy, spider webs on inside window frames. The set evening meal was expensive for what it was. WiFi didn't work in our room.

Review 41:We stayed in a standard double for one night. Very pretty location and hotel had a country house feel about it. Receptionist very helpful.

Review 42:First room we were given was dirty, impression was it had not been used for some time and not re-cleaned, we were moved to another room which was much better

Review 43:lovely location, quiet and relaxing, nice views and surroundings, very friendly and helpful staff

Review 44:The hotel was rather run down in places. More modern extension was not attractive or in good condition. The room had also seen better days. The window catch was broken and bodged up. Toilet was stained.

Review 45:Good service in the restaurant and an enjoyable evening meal. Attractive setting in an interesting turn of the century house.

Review 46:As another reviewer said, just some small details being attended to could improve this place dramatically. Lack of coasters or protection on polished wooden surfaces would ensure it stayed in good condition. A few sprays of exit Mould in the shower would eliminate the mould. Fixing a leaky tap and broken elevator, would provide a better service, but that would require an injection of cash into the premises.

Review 47:A quiet, but convenient place to stay. Staff were helpful amnd did their best.

Review 48:Lift broken Restaurant menu not very interesting but bar food edible. Breakfast buffet just O K but deep fried black pudding impossible to cut. Bed very squeaky.

Review 49:Easy to book at last minute. Very quiet. Convenient stop near A5.

Review 50:we booked eve meal for 8pm only to find the chef was going home as he had worked the whole day with a wedding. Not told til 8-15. Had to go local pub for meal.

Review 51:Beautiful views, fabulous settings.

Review 52:Not worth the cost of the room at all (£89 + £20 for our dog). Hotel is dated, room was the worst we've stayed in - old, cold as window had been left open and radiator didn't work. Food was average at best.

Review 53:Staff were friendly apart from the receptionist on arrival. Different receptionist on departure who was a lot friendlier. Special mention to the waiting staff who were very warm towards us and our Labrador.

Review 54:I have coeliac disease and the breakfast was even more limited for me than in other hotels

Review 55:wonderfully helpful staff and a manageress who could not do enough to help when our friend had a medical problem

Review 56:The bathtub had hairs in it. The curtains in the bathroom had holes in them. There wasn't any internet in the bedroom There was no mirror accessible with the hair dryer.

Review 57:Nice hotel Room was cosy Food was good Staff was friendly Very nice ground

Review 58:Greeted by staff who didnt know where room 4 was and initially couldnt find our booking. The rooms were very dusty and there was old debis on the bathroom floor -ugh. Breakfast was very very poor - no fresh fruit.Staff unable to make drinkable coffee. Only choice of fried eggs swimming in grease. No alternative. No jug of water at breakfast. We were told we couldnt sit at the window for breakfast at 9.15am on Sunday as it was being set for dinner!! The waiting staff had no idea of customer service. slow at clearing tables and the restaurant wasnt busy. This is unacceptable and not worth the tariff of £120 per night!

Review 59:The view The bedding and towels

Review 60:The hotel is in a Beautiful location, close to many local attraction. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel although is an old property and expect the bedrooms to be dated but the bathrooms could do with a upgrade and the mattress was very soft.

Review 61:Mattresses need replacing, as you can feel the bed springs! Overall the hotel needs some investment to renovate the rooms to add more comfort, as the location and staff are fabulous and the rooms just need updating to bring them up to the same standard.

Review 62:Beautiful historic building in a fabulous setting. Really friendly and helpful staff.

Review 63:this was a great location for visiting family who were travelling to llangollen on their narrow boat. You can walk from the garden of the hotel over the bridge directly to the towpath, which leads into llangollen itself.

Review 64:There was a wedding on, so the whole place seemed to have shut down, there was no bar food as advertised, not even a few nuts or crisps. That would have been fine if the meal in the restaurant had been anything like decent....... Very overpriced for microwaved food in my opinion, served with only one (poor) option of wine. The greeting in the room was a note about not stealing!! To be fair we did have a real laugh all night at how bad it was when comparing it to the statements in the glossy brochure. The meal really didn't seem to have come from the same kitchen as described, nor the menu. Hilarious, Basil Fawlty sprang to mind x Apart from that, lovely location :)

Review 65:The location was beautiful, the breakfast spot on

Review 66:wonderful old mansion on magnificent grounds with a canal at the side. plenty of parking and close to the town but still far away enough for complete quiet.

Review 67:Property is bit neglected. Food (both breakfast and dinner) was poor. Staff lacked experience. I came back based on (positive) experience with this hotel in the 1980's and was disappointed.

Review 68:A house with a lot of character and a lot of potential. Nice location and view.

Review 69:The original room they gave us was a beautiful double room but we had booked a twin room. The twin room was not of the same standard as the double room. Might have stayed two nights if it had been.

Review 70:The staff were lovely and very helpful

Review 71:the bar staff and breakfast wait staff were unfriendly, lacked basic hospitality training and made us feel quite uncomfortable

Review 72:The location and reception staff were nice and friendly but the bar staff and breakfast wait staff were unfriendly, lacked basic hospitality training and made us feel quite uncomfortable

Review 73:Soulless. No warm welcome, sadly staff in short supply and lacking charm. In need of update. Could be such a lovely hotel

Review 74:Beautiful location on the canal. 2 mile walk into Llangollen along canal. Lovely old building. Great potential

Review 75:Room, bed was awful, toilet seat was manky. Light in the bathroom was out. Dirty tea pot. Tea cups left in the TV cabinet from previous guests. Never again!!!

Review 76:Breakfast

Review 77:Inside could do with a big revamp it was such a beautiful place but the interior let it down plus staff could do with a happy pill !! Unfortunately we had to go to a different room to shower in the morning as cold water was just trickling in through taps .

Review 78:Great location beautiful building and gardens etc and a very comfy bed

Review 79:tv was poor in the bedroom dead small didnt have a clue how to work shower in the morning no staff around to help me, waiting half hour for breakfast then had to shoot to work and didnt have any breakfast, wifi was very poor no signle what so ever, snacks etc not a great deal

Review 80:bed was comfy

Review 81:The food was very poor and a menu was left in the room which instantly made us want to book dinner elsewhere! We were then told that this was just a sample menu and not what was on for the evening. Decor was dirty and in need of modernisation. Bath had to be cleaned out and the cups for the complimentary Tea and coffee hadn't been checked as the top one was clean but the bottom used and dirty.

Review 82:The views are spectacular and from the outside the building looks very inviting. It's a shame that the place has been let down by the above comments as with some money spent and new chefs it could be really nice.

Review 83:Bed on point of collapse. Room furnished with old, tired, worn out, scratched mahogany furniture. Bathroom old fashioned, lots of ingrained mildew around bath. Toilet had chipped, un-hygenic mahogany wooden seat. Breakfast very greasy English fry up with n choice of fresh fruits, yoghurts etc.

Review 84:Location and grounds.

Review 85:Bedrooms were run down although clean, there was no hot water on the Sunday morning, as the boiler could not cope with the amount of guests staying there. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, if you pay for your accommodation hot water is essential. Had to boil the kettle to have a wash. Would not stay there again.

Review 86:Beautiful location pity the interior of the bedrooms did not match.

Review 87:this time ..small room, tired decor . jumped at chance of an "offer"..2 nights in small room was enough. would not have been happy if payed full price. man with silicon gun needs lessons

Review 88:cleanliness, good service, stayed here before, loved it.

Review 89:Room nice and clean ,but needed updating. Television tiny and needed wall mounting to be visible

Review 90:Breakfast good ,bar area enjoyable, lovely grounds and excellent for walks.

Review 91:Member of staff basically accused us of lying when we said the shower was too cold to use.

Review 92:The location and the tips that some of the staff gave us. Very convenient for Llangollen.

Review 93:Our beds were extremely hard with one having no mattress cover over the tension fixings. We lay on top of the duvets to get a poor nights sleep and will not be returning.

Review 94:The setting and surrounding countryside

Review 95:Toilet kept running through the night.we are two single ladies travelling but not listed as type of traveller

Review 96:Everything was as advertised but if you login to their site a much better offer available.

Review 97:Appalling bed, useless shower, broken tiles and bathroom fittings, lights that don't work and generally worn out a decade ago. The bedroom was unbearably hot with way too control the temperature other than opening the window.

Review 98:Location next to the canal and surrounding green hills

Review 99:The shower was very hard to work (had to call for assistance) and when it worked, the temperature control was either hot or luke warm.

Review 100:Staff were very friendly. Excellent service. Comfortable & clean. Very comfy bed.

Review 101:Dinner was quite expensive. A minor detail - the sat nav took us to the towpath on the other side of the canal!

Review 102:The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot. The views are superb.

Review 103:I had to change room as taps did not work and then the next room the toilet did not flush and things broken. The breakfast was the worst that I have ever seen there were no bread rolls, Danish Pastries, Yogurts or fruit hardly bread or anything else do not cater for people who do not eat meat. Lastly they mentioned when booking that there could be a charge for dog when we checked out we were told £20 and they reduced it from £30 it would be better to say no dogs at all and it would be good if the staff were nice.

Review 104:The bed and grounds were perfect but ????

Review 105:The wifi never worked. I requested soya milk, the answer was no. It was one girl from the staff in specific, she looked grumpy, so nothing like, "no thanks", or, "I'm sorry we don't have it". They didn't have fruits for breakfast. The TV is very tiny, we didn't watch TV, so we didnt mind. it was better to look through the window, but I say it just in case you feel like watching TV.

Review 106:I loved the surroundings, the views through my window, the location is perfect. The room very simple, but comfortable. Nice hair dryer.

Review 107:£20 charge for the dog, dirt in the bath. Dogs not even allowed in the bar. Little choice at breakfast and guy serving seemed like he'd rather be somewhere else.

Review 108:Beautiful grounds and location, decent food.

Review 109:The hotel needs a refurbishment. We had a superior room but the room and especially the bathroom was tatty.

Review 110:Friendly and efficient staff. Food not bad.

Review 111:We were made very welcome by really friendly staff, hotel was situated right by the canal with lovely views. Everything we wanted from a short break. Food was excellent, walks were brilliant. Will be going back.

Review 112:Given a room with single beds n dog hairs on floor.

Review 113:We got upgrade as was not happy with the room was given but the hotel was nearly fully booked. They were very helpful in the end to us.

Review 114:The wifi connection was poor.

Review 115:Rooms were clean and spacious, with good facilities. The grounds were well maintained and location very beautiful, especially as the weather was so good.

Review 116:Break fast service on April 7th v slow and didn't like waiting for toaster. Food good not waitress service. That was poor.

Review 117:Location and food and bedroom

Review 118:Be great if you could hire bikes

Review 119:Location right by Llangollen canal was great the staff were attentive and the bar was oldie worldie with a log fire and great reasonably priced food

Review 120:No one on reception had wait 10 minutes andtold on lleaving it was because of a wedding TV was 16 in screen no free view and you could not c screen from the bed No interaction from staff at meal times

Review 121:The hotel grounds and the look of the hotel was beautiful

Review 122:food at dinner rubbish meat not cooked meatless stew raw vegatables manager said will get something off bill did not last 2 times stopping great this time very bad have cancelled next booking till we hear from them

Review 123:quiet

Review 124:Bar service was a bit patchy. Internet was next to useless.

Review 125:Very close proximity off the main road, about 2 miles from LLangollen. Nice grounds, canal runs outside. Received a complimentary upgrade to a double room. Room was clean, bathroom was functional. Lots of hot water for the shower. Cooked breakfast was really good. Reception staff very friendly. Bed very comfortable

Review 126:Nothing to complain about. The hotel may need a little upgrading but is great value.

Review 127:Location brilliant, with the Llangollen canal at the bottom of the garden. Excellent food. (evening meals and breakfast). Warm, comfortable rooms. Pleasant and obliging staff. Easy parking for our motorbikes

Review 128:Listed as WIFI free throughout on Booking.com, just about available in reception/dining room. Shower was broken and not attached to wall, it also leaked although we could not see where from, there was a puddle on the floor across the room by the sink after use. Net curtain in bathroom ripped in three places. Main light not working. Unable to dial reception from room. Bed on wheels, moved away from wall when we attempted to sit in bed. Different bulbs in bedside lights (one bright, one dim). Coffee facilities very basic (considering full price on rooms is £119 per night), basic tea, Nescafe original and decaf. We ended up buying our own Gold Blend and fresh milk for the room.

Review 129:When we could not see the advertised wifi I went downstairs to the girl on reception, she was lovely and said the wifi was very poor and offered us another room, I was unable to attach to the wifi there although I could actually see it, on getting the code in the morning from the breakfast staff I believe it is possible she did not know the correct password as I was able to get on in the dining room that morning. Had I known at this point that the shower was not attached to the wall I would have still swapped. The breakfast was ok, both days I asked for a well cooked egg and both days it was runny (2nd day better). The deal we got through booking.com was fantastic (£98 for the two nights) however it did not feel like a deal at all when we were there. The lady on checking out apologised (the staff were all lovely) however challenged my belief that we should have had wifi (glad I printed the booking.com confirmation out) and said she could not discount us further, we did not actually ask but I guess it meant she had listened to us and appreciated we had not had the best stay. The view from the room was amazing, simply beautiful and we sat outside the front to watch the partial eclipse.

Review 130:would be nice to have an outside area with patio heater even in early spring.

Review 131:location of hotel and excellent free parking. very friendly staff and delicious breakfast.

Review 132:The hotel lacked atmosphere but maybe thats because it was out of season and very few guests staying. No box of tissues in the room which are normally supplied in most hotels.

Review 133:The Location and the Hotel was full of character. We got an excellent deal and would stay again if we were visiting the area.

Review 134:None

Review 135:The room we had was large and more than adequate for our stay. Breakfast was very good as was the service. We felt the package was good value and would stay there again.

Review 136:Food was really expensive for the amount on my plate so disappointed Wifi didn't work Toilet wouldn't flush

Review 137:The staff were welcoming and everywhere was clean. Lovely location it will be gorgeous in the summer

Review 138:No welcome smile or hello from reception staff.

Review 139:Grounds were great for dog and lovely views across the hills. Bar/dining room staff were quite pleasant and chatty

Review 140:Room was clean tidy with decent normal facilties however it was very windy during our stay & the windows were fairly drafty / noisy during the night .

Review 141:Checked in & Ordered some food at the bar/lounge upon arrival , it was superb & good portions . Nice looking hotel in a picturesque valley location , plentiful safe parking , 5 mins from Llangollen.

Review 142:The WiFi in my room was weak.

Review 143:My room looked out on Castell Dinas Bran and the Llangollen Canal. I had a lovely morning walk to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct along the canal towpath.
