Reviews for The Goddard Arms
Review 1:Low lighting in the room, could do with a light above the mirror whilst Sat at the dressing table and a long mirror would be handy.
Review 2:Cellar private room a nice venue area.decor nice.free parking.
Review 3:Room and corridor were tatty and needed decorating. Room was noisey from outside refridgeration units. Check in was at bar which was not ideal so did not feel like a hotel.
Review 4:Good location and convenient for Old town bars etc. Breakfast was good.
Review 5:Wedding reception was held there and I stayed the night before my wedding. The room was perfect for my needs and that of my family and friends that also booked rooms. It's simple but clean and comfortable as well as a very personal experience.
Review 6:The hotel room was a little drab and carpets dirty. The beds were very comfortable and that were clean . Felt the room was a let down on our over all stay
Review 7:Staff were very friendly. Food was exceptional for quality and value. The pub was comfortable and very clean
Review 8:Food , breakfast wasn't included although only 5.95 oily mushrooms overdone eggs first morning waited 45 minutes for breakfast . There were only 3people in dining room
Review 9:Location ,is good very nice pub rooms need decorating. You do not hear a thing from the very busy pub. Staff helpful
Review 10:Broken toilet seat was fixed but then broke again...other than that excellent 3 night stay
Review 11:Good location excellent food and decor in the pub...comfortable rooms upstairs
Review 12:The pub is old and tired, floors creaked everywhere upstairs. It is a very busy venue throughout the weekend.
Review 13:Staff very friendly, location central, for a stopover it was ideal, value for money.
Review 14:Too noisy. A boiler kept coming on and off which kept me awake, along with revellers leaving a club at 5.15am. Managed about 3 hours sleep
Review 15:Location for Old Town was good. Room was clean, and staff were friendly
Review 16:On arrival it was a bit confusing finding reception to check-in. We asked a staff member and he directed us to the end of the bar-not very well signed
Review 17:Comfortable beds, good food and great value for money.
Review 18:If your are looking for top spec luxury this is not for you. This is an old building. This is a vintage hotel.
Review 19:It's fine for one night. The room was acceptable. The location in the Old Town was good.
Review 20:COULDNT GET SHOWER TO WORK IN ROOM 15,MAYBE RAMP OR LIFT TO GET TO FIRST LEVEL.BEDROOMS NEED AN UPDATE
Review 21:PLENTY OF ROOM IN BARS,GOOD BEER CIDER SELECTION,FRIENDLY STAFF
Review 22:Poor quality Wi-Fi, awkward to access and not available in the room I stayed in.
Review 23:Good selection of beer and food, pleasant room and building in good location.
Review 24:Well we only had 1 cup for bath room and it was very cold and noisy where we was we could here staff out the back on there breaks as windows old and we was near fire escape was so noisy and banging of door , plus our door wouldn't shut properly and had to try and pull it shut before we could leave no handle on outside
Review 25:Location was ok anc pub was nice
Review 26:Food was excellent, staff very helpful and always pleasant. Dinning room, bar area very nice, we were on the top floor so if you are taller than 5'10" better get another room or you will hit your head in the shower. Room was nothing fancy but the atmosphere made up for it. Would stay there again.
Review 27:Cleanliness of toilet could have been a lot better. Also the paint on bathroom window frame was chipped & peeling as it wasn't protected when shower in use. We arrived at 6.45pm with a young child but as children were not allowed downstairs after 7.00pm we had to trail out into an unknown town to find a restaurant whereby we eventually ended up at a Brewers Fayre Restaurant by pure chance!
Review 28:Room, location, gardens, atmosphere, food.
Review 29:Terrible parking Not family friendly Arrogant staff Made to feel 'in the way' Rotten window frames Mouldy grout in bathroom & no blind at window where shower is Massive crack in bedroom ceiling Uneven floor boards Dirty, marked & chipped decor in rooms & corridors, needs cleaning & repainting Tables sticky at breakfast in pub Visible areas behind bar dirty
Review 30:Comfortable bed.
Review 31:The check in/out times were really bad and staff weren't very flexible to give us any earlier check in even though the room had been checked out since 10am from the guest staying the night before. The room was not spotless considering the time we were told it would take to have it ready.
Review 32:Location
Review 33:The window was not properly sealed and there was noise from outside and a bit chilly during night. Heat was not on (it was in September)
Review 34:Food is great. The pub downstairs is great. Rooms have all appliances you need. I also liked the location because it was like 2 minutes walking to the office.
Review 35:It was very noisy. The room was dark and shabby. Needs refurbishment. The TV didn't work and although there was tea and coffee in the room there was no kettle.
Review 36:The bed was a queen and very comfortable
Review 37:STAYED ONE NIGHT IN ROOM 15 AND THE NOISE FROM THE VENTILATION SYSTEM OR WHATEVER WAS TERRIBLE MOVED ROOMS FOR THE REST OF MY STAY
Review 38:NICE BIG BAR AREA, GOOD PINT AT REASONABLE PRICE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF WELL SITUATED FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Review 39:This Building is old , so you expect creaking floors etc But a few of the rooms I have stayed in could do with a bit of maintenance and room 12. new mattress and new carpet and redecorating ,but for what you pay it is value for your money (regular stayer )
Review 40:The hotel bar and restaurant are good as well as excellent staff who will do anything to help. It is right in the centre of old town, excellent bars and restaurants in walking distance from hotel.
Review 41:Room was a little small but still brilliant for the price we paid for the room.
Review 42:The food was lovely in the pub downstairs. Very comfortable bed. Lovely powerful shower.
Review 43:Unfortunately the wi-fi has a blank spot and I had that room, but on the bright side it was nice to sit in pub with my laptop. So I was still connected.
Review 44:Clean, quiet and the food was very good, breakfasat excellent and great choice for evening meal. The pub had a very good atmosphere.
Review 45:booked in for breakfast for three days first day great could not finish all the breakfast thanked the staff for a fine breakfast same on second day Third day had scrambled eggs what they severed up was poached eggs mashed up terrible the wife had scrambled eggs for the last two days This was a real downer for our last day
Review 46:good location very good staff good value for money food
Review 47:The rooms could have done with a bit of paint, the carpets looked tired giving the overall appearance and first immpression as poor.
Review 48:Breakfast was nice, staff were pleasant
Review 49:Shower sprayed al over the bath and window wood was rotting. Toilet could do with redecorating. No wifi in room
Review 50:Great location and competitive price. Good sized room and comfortable bed.
Review 51:I stayed with my brother-in-law and sister. We were not happy as there was no lift and we were on the top floor. However, with hindsight we could have asked for a lower floor when booking. This did not spoil our stay.
Review 52:The staff were efficient and friend. The location was good. The rooms were clean with all the usual facilities. Food all day was available if required. Car parking on site. We enjoyed our stay.
Review 53:Staff checking you in and out are general bar staff and was not spoken to at all as I handed in my keys "did you enjoy your stay?", "would you like breakfast?" Etc. could have been more attentive
Review 54:Rooms secured away from the bar are small but ok for a short break/1-2 nights only. The location is great for Old Town restaurants and pubs making this a good night after a few drinks. The free car park is also a big bonus
Review 55:Nothing,did notstay
Review 56:I am very surprised that you have sent this,I have sent 3 emails to yourselves and one to Goddard Inn without reply. Something wrong somewhere within your organisation.
Review 57:This is really a big town centre pub with a few rooms above. It's pretty rough and ready. Room was marked "Non-smoking" but somebody had been smoking inside. There worst problem was just outside my window there was the noisiest ventilation system I've ever heard - I was so exhausted I slept right through it mind!
Review 58:Low-cost hotel ideally located in Old Town Swindon.
Review 59:Location close to the football ground as we were there for a match. It was also close to the Brunel shopping centre and also the designer outlet. We also enjoyed a nice quiet drink in the beer garden.
Review 60:No breakfast included in price, noisy from outside but that was probably worse due to my stay been Saturday night
Review 61:Location, good sized room. Very nice food served in the pub..
Review 62:Accepting that it is a very old building the rooms overlooking the main road let a lot of road noise in at all times. The toilet/bathroom needs some work, looking a little tired in places.
Review 63:Ideally placed and mostly comfortable, staff mostly very pleasant.
Review 64:The staff were not friendly and or efficient; they were quite slow. The room was basic, which is ok, but it was quite shabby and didn't feel very clean. It was very noisy at night (our room was facing the smoking area/beer garden), noise went on till 2am then at 8am the bar get deliveries of kegs, etc. and the noise of that was as bad. Saying this, the location is very good and for that reason I would not rule out staying again.
Review 65:The bar is lovely, the location is excellent, the food is good (no nice healthy options for breakfast though)
Review 66:My other half said that the bathroom was a bit shabby? ! It wasn't!
Review 67:The staff were very cheery! The room was great for the money. Breakfast in the pub was amazeballs!
Review 68:The service provided by the member of staff who checked us in was poor. We anticipated to wait at the bar to check in as explained within previous reviews, however it would have been nice for him to at least make eye contact with me whilst I was checking in and paying, rather than chatting with other people. He also informed us that when coming back late, the door to the upstairs accommodation is generally left open so we would not need to use our key. This made me feel quite unsafe. The room was newly decorated, though with very little attention to detail. There was not a lock on the bathroom door and the mugs had not been washed since the last person's stay.
Review 69:The location was convenient for going out in Old Town. It is also reasonably good value for money.
Review 70:I have been to Swindon on many occasions and i still find that the Bar services is very slow, The bar staff seem to be very laid back and cannot serve 2 or more people at a time, this has not change and should be looked at. Other than that i had a pleasant stay and would again.
Review 71:Being so close to the town and local pubs, cafes etc was a key factor to staying there.
Review 72:Would be better if the wifi connection was available in the bedrooms.
Review 73:The food in the restaurant - they had a good choice of meals on the menu with options for calorie conscious diners.
Review 74:Nice location in a pub with terrace. No noise or smell nuisance from the pub, the rooms are well separated from it. I had a room on the street side but the street is rather calm during the night. Food offering is large and prices are reasonable.
Review 75:The Room was very hot and there was a loud airconditioner unit for the whole building in front of our window. The walls where a little dirty, the carpet could use a vacuum cleaner. The bathroom door didn't close at all.
Review 76:Central location, very good food in the pub, friendly people. We heard no noises from the bar at all. Bed was clean and comfy. Well worth the money.
Review 77:very noisey location from traffic and drunk people going home up to 6am, Lincolnshire sausage and mash was horrible, room very worn, in urgent need of modernisation. Pub looks far batter on outside.
Review 78:Friendly staff
Review 79:Mouldy kettle in room decided to have dinner on Friday night my son had a burger I had hunters chicken. The bun was burnt got it replaced. My chicken was dry over chargrilled couldn't find the bbq sauce very disappointed in the food
Review 80:Was great location for my means breakfast was ok
Review 81:Felt sealant around bath could do with being replaced. Room 3 has a shower door to bath and as bath is offset from wall by 150mm and shower door is not,it makes difficulty to ensure no water seeps out onto floor If you like a quiet room ask for a rear facing room.
Review 82:Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked Staff very good Good access to Old Town Swindon
Review 83:Stayed in this old coaching in several years ago when it had a cosy traditional feel. In the meanwhile a massive bar has been created on the ground floor which was very busy from 1800 to midnight. It seems that Old Town is the place for Swindonians to go on a sat night and they do so in droves. If you are looking for a quiet cosy Inn on the weekend then look elsewhere. Also the bedrooms were looking tired and in need of a refurb.
Review 84:Convenient location for the wedding we were attending
Review 85:Loud crowded pub downstairs. Fair to say the noise didn't disturb us though. You had to walk through throngs of drinkers to get to the room.
Review 86:Room fine.
Review 87:My room was too hot. The thermostat in shower was broken and was scalding hot so I couldn't use it. It was fixed the afternoon before I checked out. I will Not stay there again,
Review 88:The food was good. The staff were friendly.
Review 89:we have never stayed in a dirtier room!,had to clean the inside window cill and top of bed head with baby wipes,it really was filthy as was the net curtain!!.but the state of the floor and skirting near the loo was disgusting . if it had not been so late we would have demanded a refund and moved on!!
Review 90:giving the keys in in the morning!!
Review 91:I think the rooms need a bit of attention, would say in need of painting and feel more inviting. Didn't think there was much storage space.
Review 92:Are stay was great, the location was fantastic, the local were friendly and the staff were too. Would visit the Goddard arms again.
Review 93:We had an attic room and being just over 6 ft meant I had to point shower at me rather than above as roof was sloping. This is more an observation than a complaint
Review 94:Staff were very welcoming and food ver good.
Review 95:Everything is so dated inside, the corridors and carpets are so 9ld. The rooms look nice but when you look closely there are marks, stains and the bathrooms need modernising. Also checkout is 11 but breakfast stops at 9am!! No soap in my room and no little toiletries that you normally expect.
Review 96:It was very hot in the buildingg, especially our room. If we were staying for longer then there would have been an issue with wardrobe space and storage.
Review 97:Perfect location, free parking, wonderful staff and lovely decor. Perfect for an overnight stay or short break.
Review 98:Bar was very busy and noisy - almost impossible to get served.
Review 99:Good central location and nice character. Quiet in the room despite noisy bar and busy road. Good value.
Review 100:Toilet was filled with black water, corridors stink of booze as its above a pub. No reception, there is only a computer beside the bar to check in. Worst hotel I stayed.
Review 101:Nothing
Review 102:Dated decor. Peeling and mouldy paintwork on bathroom windows inside Shower Area. Water from shower went over the screen and all over floor. Ran out of butter and bread at breakfast! Didn't know it was a busy Yates pub too!
Review 103:Location. Ease of parking. Comfy bed and clean linen. Good security.
Review 104:Shame they can't put a lift in - but with a 400 year old building you can't have everything. Noise from street was a bit loud at times.
Review 105:The twin beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. Good food served hot for dinner. Breakfast was OK but not as good - but we were very early with a busy day ahead of us.
Review 106:everything wobbled- curtain tie hooks, the shower rail, the towel ring, the toilet seat etc etc. My room was fairly clean but my friend said her carpet had not been vacuumed and had crumbs all over.
Review 107:Close to Old Town with nice cafes and independent shops The evening meal was great- fabulous puddings
Review 108:Carpets...... really need to be cleaned or replaced. Someone with a screwdriver and an hour to spare needs to fix all the bathroom seats and fittings lol
Review 109:Staff, breakfast, bed, and shower. The evening meal was superb and not overpriced.
Review 110:Massive extractor unit from the kitchens venting all the heat and SMELL next to my window !!! Not good if your on diet because delicious !!! However very noisy !!!!
Review 111:Warm and friendly welcome ! And the room was clean and well presented.
Review 112:The room being at the end of the long hallway and so away from the main facilities.
Review 113:The building The location The breakfast The choice of beer available The parking
Review 114:The bed was like a horrible hard slab & I got no sleep. I got up with bruises it was the reason I will never go back.
Review 115:The staff, the food & the clean room
Review 116:I didn't have a Bad experience, it was just the bed was too soft, i prefer a firm mattress. Apart from that all was ok.
Review 117:The staff. They were very helpful when my car developed a flat battery. One female staff put herself out to get the recovery people and help me on my way.
Review 118:bit noisy my room on a busy road, you check in at the bar downstairs and I had to wait longer then my turn while they served drinks.
Review 119:good location, clean,
Review 120:Sticky tables in the eating areas.Obviously not cleaned-my newspaper stuck to the table. Some areas are looking a bit tired and some carpets in the rooms need to be thrown out and replaced.Dirty mug in the bedroom.
Review 121:A great English pub with good beer and reasonable food.Comfy bed.Good shower.Friendly and helpful staff.safe parking.
Review 122:Stadf were very helpful, room was lovely and clean. Bar was busy with great atmosphere. We had a meal which was very nice and very good value. Breakfast was excellent. Would certainly recommend!
Review 123:Nothing to dislike
Review 124:The Goddards Arms was lovely & staff were very friendly with a nice large double room which was well decorated & had a large bathroom
Review 125:The smell of damp\sweaty feet in the corridor to rooms is rather overwhelming and ive never had a whole fillet of battered fish in place of fish fingers in a bap before, dont want it again, very messy.
Review 126:Great location, beautiful building, comfortable, clean rooms
Review 127:Thought the breakfast was included in the price but found out after I'd eaten that i had to pay extra. Was a good breakfast none the less.
Review 128:Even though i looked outof place with my punk clothes & mohican i was made to feel very welcome indeed & all the staff were friendly.
Review 129:No wifi in the rooms upstairs. Whilst my bathroom was fine, my colleagues was a little jaded with grout that needed attention. Price of drinks a little high in the bar but no more than other venues in Swindon if that's any consolation!
Review 130:Staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast, whilst charged additionally, was excellent and actually too much to eat! Lively bar with good atmosphere.
Review 131:Room was in a poor state of repair, bath wasn't clean, wardrobe was squeezed in and had no door. Shower screen could open due to bad design and squeezed in. Generally the room was Unacceptable.
Review 132:Breakfast was filling and served quicky
Review 133:Disappointing to have fresh half tomato on the full English. Please grill it next time! Found the fire door left open twice compromising safety and leaving the landing cold.
Review 134:Very nice place with character but upstairs rather tired. Very clean and comfortable though.
Review 135:Had a room at front of hotel and noise from the road was almost constant all night.Hotel needs double glazing!
Review 136:Although the room was small the bed was excellent and the bathroom very good once I had worked out how to use shower. The food is good value especially the breakfast .The bar is very popular with the locals and the real ales well kept. The staff are welcoming and efficient
Review 137:The wifi was down the day I went, this is a must for anyone travelling today. Also my room on the first floor facing the back (Rm 10) had a (non double glazed) sash window looking out onto an air-conditioning unit that was on ALL night with a continuous drone/hum
Review 138:Food and pub ambience was good, room was clean and a nice size. The staff were very friendly and helpful. free parking in the car park
Review 139:Tired decor, carpets etc noisey bar on ground floor. Front bedrooms face high street. beware screaming drunks until late friday or saturday night.
Review 140:convenient location, good price, clean.
Review 141:Room's decor getting a bit tired and worn, bathroom could do with an update, carpets a getting on, no wifi away from ground floor - needs fixing
Review 142:Room ok but decor and carpets getting a bit tired and worn, bed large and comfortable, tv good reception and freeview package, bathroom ok but could do with an update, no wifi away from ground floor bar a prob. Good Range of ales and reasonable bar menu.
Review 143:Room was a bit on the small side. Wifi was supposed to be available in public areas, but wasn't great quality. It kept dropping out. No wifi access in the rooms.
Review 144:The pub was fantastic. Great decor and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and the food was nice. Parking and wifi were free. It's walking distance to some shops and other pubs/restaurants.
