Reviews for Corinium Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:The breakfast wasn't great. The cold buffet was nice with a decent selection of yoghurt, cereal and fruit. However the hot breakfast wasn't great. Was sausages not great quality. Also at busy times there is a hot buffet rather than a la carte. The bed was really hard. I never usually complain about beds because a hotel bed is never going to be like your own. However this one was noticeably uncomfortable and hard, to the extent that I noticed my body aching throughout the day.

Review 2:The hotel is in a grade 2 listed building, so has lots of character. The bath in the bathroom was a nice design and big enough for two. Check in and check out was efficient. The location would be great for exploring Cirencester.

Review 3:Quirky building so odd things like bathroom fan switch 4m up a wall... Lacked that eye for detail of finish and service that would have made it much better.. did they have to clean the Gents as everyone was coming down to breakfast and prop the door open?

Review 4:Loved the location (though signage to find it wasn't brilliant). Food ok though they ran out of sausages. Staff friendly

Review 5:The hotel was lovely, and perfect for a weekend away to attend a wedding. We had a large 4-poster room, bed was comfy, breakfasts were great, staff were helpful. we'd definitely recommend Corinium Hotel.

Review 6:our kettle did not work so we had no drink so we were very disappointed.

Review 7:the location was lovely, the hotel was nice, breakfast ok, and comfortable bed.

Review 8:Over bath shower was not very good and the TV very poor quality. Breakfast was definitely not beautiful nor delicious

Review 9:Good dinner in the restaurant, very well cooked. Generally friendly staff although reception service very slow

Review 10:Slightly larger room, and , had we wanted to watch it, a larger TV would have been good.

Review 11:Friendly, beautiful building, close to central Cirencester. Good breakfast and helpful bar with good coffee and tea served

Review 12:There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel

Review 13:This was the third hotel I stayed in on a trip visiting friends in the south of England and returning from and to Manchester. It was the only hotel that I regretted having to leave after only one night! The accommodation was excellent, the staff friendly and very helpful, the food first class. It was located in a quiet street, less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of the beautiful, historic, town of Cirencester. The bedroom was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable. It was more pricey than the others I stayed in but you pay for what you get. I was very satisfied.

Review 14:Excellent location, short walk in to town and good parking facilities. We had the four poster bedroom which was spacious and comfortable. Excellent bath and separate shower. Had an evening meal once which was also very good. As a tip, makes sure you get to breakfast early as when we got there late they were running out of some of the produce.

Review 15:Would have liked a slightly bigger room, and found the stairs up to the second floor a little difficult, but I suppose this must be expected in an old building.

Review 16:Recently stayed at this hotel for just one night. Easy on site parking and central but quiet location is a great plus point. Nice en suite bathroom, helpful staff and lovely breakfast. Overall a very pleasant stay, would return.

Review 17:An old building which looks attractive & charming on the website but the downside is that the rooms vary -we were right at the top(practically in the rafters) which entailed lugging suitcases up a very narrow staircase . I am sure there are better rooms -ask what you are going to get.

Review 18:Good location & short walk to town main attractions. Easy parking & breakfast with attentive service.

Review 19:The room was very cramped and not as I expected. It was described as being compact but I did not realise how small it would be

Review 20:The staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 21:Very thin walls in bedroom and noisy bathroom fan left running in adjacent rrom provoked involvement of management to sort (which they did very promptly). No individual toiletries which, for the price of accommodation, was a let-down, as was the one small packet of biscuits in a dual-occupancy room. Little details but made it feel overpriced by comparison to other places we have stayed. Also had to request a second hand towel as there was only one in the room on arrival.

Review 22:Characterful building with friendly and helpful staff. Free parking on-site and a 5-minute walk into town.

Review 23:Booked on the back of undeserved good reviews. Decor tired, staff (with one exception) looked bored and the hotel is hugely overpriced for the standard. Wouldn't eat there unless at risk of starvation.

Review 24:Location convenient for the town centre. Car packing facilities.

Review 25:Was slightly disappointment in the breakfast ( cheap sausages) and the scrambled egg was very sloppy, however wouldn't stop us from staying here again!

Review 26:The staff were ever so friendly , made us feel very welcomed and at home. Great location to town centre.

Review 27:The room was very small and the beds were quite hard, tiny bathroom and my husband barely had room to wash at the basin which was squashed between the shower and the wall

Review 28:Location was really good, very easy to find and within walking distance of the town centre.Lovely breakfast and staff were friendly and efficient

Review 29:The room was lovely and clean, the bed was uncomfortable the pillows were lumpy.

Review 30:The hotel was lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, food fantastic, great location.

Review 31:Bed was uncomfortable, room was tiny and the price seemed high for what you get. There are probably better choices in town.

Review 32:Friendly staff and convenient location. Wifi was excellent, as well as the breakfast

Review 33:The room was fine, a little small and noisy from the bar downstairs and the people walking above - but it's an old place so one has to expect creaking floorboards and hearing other people's televisions I suppose. The bathroom was pokey and the sink ridiculously small. It was fine for a one night stay but wouldn't have wanted to be staying in that room (11) for longer.

Review 34:Very convenient location for getting into town. Plenty of parking and a nice ambience to the place. Clean and well maintained. Friendly faces at breakfast and checkout.

Review 35:we were in room 15 which was difficult to access especially with a large suitcase(although they did offer to take up our cases. If we were to stay again I would ask for a room on the ground floor. My husband kept bumping his head going into the bathroom because the door frames were so low.

Review 36:Very friendly helpful staff;wonderful breakfast;excellent location for easy access to town centre;wonderful historic building with loads of character;Easy to find;good car parking facilities

Review 37:Menu looked a bit complicated and pretentious and so we went out, but a good choice of restaurants in the town.

Review 38:Excellent place to stay in the middle of Cirencester. een though the booking was not far ahead they managed to accommodate a request for a ground floor room.

Review 39:The stairs. No lift , we accept it is an old property and lifts are not to be expected!

Review 40:All very good, a bit overpriced but it's what you expect in the Cotswolds. Parking was free and easy.

Review 41:Scrambled eggs should be made to order rather than in a chafing dish. Too rubbery. Croissant could have been of better quality

Review 42:The room was full of original features yet bathroom was excellent

Review 43:Nothing.

Review 44:Very good location with plenty of parking. Lovely garden, welcoming bar and public areas. The dining room was comfortable and attractively decorated. Breakfast and dinner were excellent with good service.

Review 45:Great little hotel that was very comfortable, great food and a nice bar. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Even let us park out horse lorry in the car park!

Review 46:Unfortunately being an old building you could hear people above and the ceiling shook when they walked about, but this didn't spoil our stay.

Review 47:Good location, friendly staff and excellent location.

Review 48:We was in the attic, dirty very small bathroom . Overall not a nice stay. Was told at 2.00pm they stopped serving lunch.on Internet it clearly states 12.00 noon till 22.00

Review 49:Breakfast

Review 50:The shower in our room was a little difficult to regulate and therefore after playing around with it for a long period of time gave up on it.

Review 51:The location of the hotel was excellent and the garden an restaurant were attractive. The room was a good size and was comfortable. The waitresses were friendly welcoming and helpful.

Review 52:Very friendly and accommodating Breakfast - very good. We got the times wrong for breakfast and we even received a call as breakfast was about to finish to advise us that we can still take breakfast.

Review 53:Old characterful hotel with low-height doors/ceilings. VERY squeaky floorboards in rooms above and corridor. Take earplugs! Check out too early (10.30am).

Review 54:Only 5 minutes walk to town center. Plenty of free, secure parking on-site. Nice, quiet and child friendly beer garden.

Review 55:Thought our room could have had a king sized bed due to the good size comfortable room we were given.

Review 56:Cosy atmosphere. Interesting dinner menu. Very nice meal.

Review 57:Staff were so kind and helpful - excellent customer service! The hotel's standard rate is fairly expensive but the extra touches in the room and the incredible breakfast felt more 4 star than 3!

Review 58:One small glitch occurred throughout our stay but that was soon dealt with, so no complaints and nothing that would stop us from visiting again.

Review 59:The hotel was comfortable, clean and inviting, with good parking and only a very short walk into Cirencester. The staff were excellent, all very friendly and helpful - food and service were also very good. Would definitely recommend.

Review 60:A bit picky but the hair dryer could have done with an upgrade, but apart from that I couldn't fault it.

Review 61:the breakfast was fabulous and the bar was really nice. The staff were so friendly.

Review 62:None

Review 63:We appreciated being near the centre of town as well as being bale to visit a number of interesting places at no great distance in the area. It suited us perfectly. Added to this the hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful in all ways.

Review 64:A comfortable overnight break tucked away yet within walking distance of the town. Room clean, bed very comfortable, shower hot and good choice at breakfast. Staff polite and friendly.

Review 65:We had Room 10 which was a very cramped double room with a small double bed. It was a comfortable bed but so little room to move around.

Review 66:Location, style of hotel, staff.

Review 67:Lovely restaurant and bar area for a drink by the fire after dinner. Very accommodating staff. Loved the 4 poster bed and beams in our bedroom. Would stay there again.

Review 68:Noisy rooms, walls so think you can hear every word of the conversation of the people in the next room. Creaky floorboards that wake you up when people walk past in the night. Outdated bathrooms.

Review 69:The staff are very pleasant. Good food and service. Good location

Review 70:Staff were superb (we were actually shown up to our room which is something that hasn't happened for years), the food was excellent, the beer was ace. What more could one want. Will happily stay there again

Review 71:Everything, it was an absolute pleasure to stay there. Staff were very helpful and obliging. Food was good. Location was perfect. Easy to park. No problems at all.

Review 72:The shower had poor temperature regulation and pressure so neither my friend nor I could even was our fair The room was quite pokey with a tiny tv which I wouldn't have minded had it not cost £110! The room was hot at night so we tried to open the window. It wouldn't stay open so we had to wedge it open in order to allow fresh air in

Review 73:Location Breakfast was fairly good Character building

Review 74:The stairs are steep but help is on hand for your bags. Normally I would avoid a hotel without a lift, but I'm so glad that I made the effort!! We will return!!

Review 75:From entering the hotel to leaving we were treated as favoured guests despite this being our first visit to the hotel. On asking we were allocated a room which featured a separate shower and the bed was so comfortable! In the dining room the food was delicious and obviously cooked to order. Although I read these reviews I rarely write one, but I had to make an exception for this charming hotel.

Review 76:Very difficult to get the shower to produce any hot water.

Review 77:This hotel is well positioned to easily wander through the streets of Cirencester. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 78:Nothing

Review 79:Everything, the room was well equipped, the bed so clean and comfortable and the breakfast excellent. The bar is a bonus, chairs by the fire and plenty of newspapers to read. Will book there again.

Review 80:Very small room only 8sqm but with pitched roof as it was on second floor was too small for the money. Also no outlook as window was only 18" from a blank wall! Not value for money in these rooms. Access to second floor rooms is also not easy with narrow stairway. Not sure what one would do if there was a fire!

Review 81:The whole place was generally ok, good people good breakfast etc although the waitress could be a bit more cheerful!

Review 82:Needed a top sheet. Quilt/blanket was too heavy. Room rather small but adequate.

Review 83:Complimentary breakfast was very good. Atmosphere of hotel was very nice. Comfortable lounge area. Staff was helpful.

Review 84:There was a problem with the radiator in our room (room 2),the valve was faulty and we couldn't turn it down or off , the duty manager did his best to fix it but had to turn off the heating to the whole hotel to cool our room down. however he must have turned it on later as I woke in the early hours feeling very hot and uncomfortable and found that the radiator was too hot to touch once more. didn't want to open a window as we were on the ground floor alongside a road(very quiet tho). Apart from the heat problem we were very happy with everything else .

Review 85:the hotel is in an excellent location & easy to find. we asked for and were given a ground floor room . we were part of an extended family group attending a 50th birthday at the hotel .the party room was lovely and we were well looked after. breakfast was excellent .

Review 86:The noise coming from the room above woke us up pretty early. We could hear them running water and flushing the toilet and every time they walked across the room our ceiling shook. The shower in our room was dreadful. The water pressure was poor so it was just a trickle. It was a good job I didn't have to wash my hair during the stay.

Review 87:The hotel was in an excellent location. It was clean and the bedroom was homely. The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was amazing. I would definitely recommend The Corinium

Review 88:The downstairs gents toilets was not lighted and when I finally found the switch they were clogged. The breakfast time 7.30/9.00am is too late if you have an early appointment. No electronic key and a threat of £20 fine if you loose your key. No breakfast buffet. The outpoing phone line was not working in my room. Food was not great. Meat in my burger was not absolutely fresh. Downstairs pub noisy when busy.

Review 89:Very nice staff.

Review 90:...the very fact that we had to leave!! Anyone who had a grumble about the Corinium must speak to Andy the charming manager. Those with mobility problems should opt for ground floor as hotel historically very old with narrow stairs. Again just did not like that we had to leave......we will be back!!

Review 91:What was there not to like? Husband recuperating from surgery on dodgy pins. Corinium Hotel staff more than helpful. Ground floor room immaculate complete with welcome tray of biccies and water. Breakfast a delight and meals in restaurant very pleasing. Cherry on the cake is Cirencester itself, magnificent St John the Baptist Church, amazing and informative Museum and all a mere few minutes walk from hotel door.

Review 92:Bed was very uncomfortable and the stairs to room 15 were far to steep and very dangerous in my opion If I had known about the stairs would not have booked the hotel,

Review 93:If I have to dislike something.....it would be the dessert menu, I may be wrong but I suspect the desserts are all 'bought in' a hot home made traditional crumble or pie would have been most welcome, actually I'm sure if I had asked for fresh fruit salad in the evening I could have had some.

Review 94:Ample room in the (satnav) easy to find central car park, friendly welcome at reception our booking easily found, ( have at other hotels waited while 'busy' staff are staring at their computer screens with little meet and greet skills, who then insist on identity and PIN numbers ) the hotel is furnished in a lovely old country house style, which we find relaxing. We ate in the hotel both evenings of our stay, varied menu very attentive friendly waiting staff. Excellent choice of breakfast menu, particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit salad. Our first visit to Cirencester and we would stay there again.

Review 95:This hotel is a favourite of ours. It has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and an olde worlde charm. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful and it is good to have the choice of eating in the bar, restaurant or garden. The location is excellent, in a quiet part of town , but with everything just a few minutes walk away.

Review 96:Our main goal was to see Gifford's Circus. It was set up just a short walk from the hotel-perfect location! Got in late, and were welcomed into the charming pub atmosphere, and had sandwiches made even though serving time was passed. Such excellent and kind service. Enjoyed the next day in the village, market day, etc. The staff helped get us to our plane on taxi, train, bus, etc. Circus show was well worth the travel from California and Corinium made the visit perfect.

Review 97:Room cramped, slightly dank, faced road at ground level with single pane poor-fitting sash window. No heating till requested. Because it was full, they had made breakfast into a self-service that did not include items on the table menu. Was made to feel ordering such items was a little bothersome e.g. poached egg instead of the self-service scrambled.. Food itself was fine.

Review 98:Good location, nice bar, nice restaurant, nice garden out back.

Review 99:Shower not too good -difficult to adjust temperature to desired level Bathroom in poor state of repair - needs some maintenance Breakfast very ordinary - cheap bread, unexciting options

Review 100:Comfortable bed Quiet location

Review 101:Had a compact room as this was all that was available, would have preferred bigger room Need to advise people about car park being accessed from Trafalgar Road ( I had found this information on hotels own website) No lift

Review 102:Staff were obliging. Breakfast was very good

Review 103:The big free car parking place is in front of the hotel, the room is an old England House, very traditional, which let feel at home. The person in the receiption is very kind, he taked our luggage up to the second floor. The whole hotel is like a best view in COTSWOLD, the breakfast is very delicious and the breakfast room is also very beautiful in old traditional decorations. There is a lovely wooden rabbit in the gate, which is obvious to welcome your coming.

Review 104:As we had room on the upper floor there were 3 rooflights with blinds rather than curtains. Even at their lowest the blinds still let in considerable light which affected our sleep - watch out for the low beams too. A minor point of a generally lovely stay.

Review 105:Food, staff and location were all great. Very helpful and friendly, good atmosphere and attractive, clean accomodation. Would stay again.

Review 106:room could have done with a lick of paint & needed to be arranged better, and really no need for the extra single bed. perhaps it should be removed if not in use,or replaced with a sofa bed.

Review 107:great food, good parking.close to town centre but still quiet nice garden & bar.

Review 108:Room was small and cramped for price. Cooked breakfast ok but thrown on the plate and the chef couldnt cook poached eggs.

Review 109:The location is central but quiet. The staff were helpful and friendly

Review 110:Kettle did not work, booked for two people, only towels for one of us, room checks prior to guests arrival could be improved

Review 111:Beautiful, quiet garden, perfect position , attractive building, delicious lunch which was special of the day, dressed crab with new potatoes - well priced and well presented

Review 112:Next time we visit would see if there are rooms available on the ground floor. We found the steps up to the second floor a little steep and awkward for carrying large suitcases upstairs. It took a long time for the hot water to get hot when using the bathroom sink.

Review 113:Hotel was ideally placed on the edge of town (Cirencester) only 5 mins walk into main square. Also very well placed for exploring other nearby towns or getting to Cotswolds attractions. Car park on site with free parking was really convenient. Food in restaurant was excellent, good selection on the menu too. Hotel staff were very attentive. Room was cozy and had all the amenities that we needed for our stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning to spend some time in the Cotswolds.

Review 114:The only let down was the shower, not hot or powerful enough.

Review 115:The situation is great. Easy walk into town centre. Great Staff. Excellent food. Breakfast brilliant. Easy to park.

Review 116:some problem with the shower. Horrible smelling muck came up into the shower tray and stank the room out. It was later cleared UP.

Review 117:The staff were very friendly, helpful and obliging. I could not have had more helpful and pleasant people to serve us. The staff made the stay worth while.

Review 118:Shower was a bit weedy but nothing to complain about as appreciate it is an older hotel

Review 119:Location Wooden Beams Outside very well kept Lovely food Great Portions in the resturant Homely feel to bar area

Review 120:Excellent customer service

Review 121:Good location, friendly staff, nice breakfast

Review 122:Good location and parking. Friendly staff A comfy bed

Review 123:Very friendly, good food, good location.

Review 124:As always staff and facilities very good

Review 125:found some missing jewellery!! very good attentive staff. nice breakfast with good quality bacon and sausage.

Review 126:The food in the restaurant was disappointing

Review 127:Lovely building in a good location

Review 128:hot room - no temperature control and window would not open!

Review 129:nice hotel - great value for money

Review 130:Friendly staff, went out of their way to be accommodating. Easy walk into the town centre
