Reviews for Best Western Citadelle

Review 1:The bathroom floor was so well heated the room became too hot and the AC (very sensibly) could not be used to cool it. We opened windows to discard some heat and notified management of the problem.

Review 2:Besancon was a very pleasant surprise - been driving past for decades. This hotel is close to the historic car-free centre that is well worth a visit

Review 3:The location to the city centre, onsite parking. Member of staff recommended a good restaurant in the area called 1802. Would also recommend going there for a good meal.

Review 4:Only two coffee packets (one decaf/one regular) each day. Perhaps we could have asked for additional packets, but one decaf and one regular probably does not satisfy morning coffee for most dual occupancy rooms. Breakfast available but a very poor value for the price.

Review 5:Desk clerk came outside despite rain to help with bags and show us where to park. A small gesture perhaps but well above the expected level of service. He deserves more specific recognition but we failed to get his name.

Review 6:The staff was so friendly to show me where to find 'the street with all the restaurants'. That proved to be not much of a street for a city like Besancon - certainly on a Monday. Poor Besanconians,

Review 7:quiet, cosy place.

Review 8:Very little parking. The rooms are quite small but the bigger problem was the bathroom, while it was very clean and worked well, I could barley get in and out of the shower and had to put my arm in the sink to sit on toilet.

Review 9:Great little hotel that was up to date and a wonderful breakfast.

Review 10:The room and bathroom were quite cramped. We were charged for parking at the hotel whereas I think we could have found parking on the road. The hotel is down a quite 'messy' road.

Review 11:The air conditioning in the room was a welcome surprise on a very hot day.

Review 12:No bar, no restaurant, no milk, share a coffee or choose something else. Shower incorrectly installed, door at the wrong end of the cubicle and wouldn't shut so flooded the floor, or opened the other way and could not be entered. A bit surprised to find card board boxes all over the floor at the bottom of the stairs in the entrance to the seating area before the breakfast room, which is the only place where you can get wifi.

Review 13:Very clean, and what there is was very good. Staff a bit annoying, keen to allow us to go to our room to shower and change, to then return for guidance of facilities and local knowledge, but then didn't offer much help. No bar (and the receptionist suggested we don't drink the beer they had because it wasnt good) and at breakfast we were approached several times to state our room number and it was pretty unorganised. If you arrive late to find some food had finished then tough! The room included one of those posh coffee/tea machines but then only 1 coffee sachet, no black tea, no milk - so pit wall s a case of take what is there or share it and drink it black. The receptionist said "this is normal" because the milk would go off, even a long-life carton?! She did bring us a jug of milk, which was good. At breakfast a good choice of teas on offer and I would have taken a couple back to the room.....but no milk! Therefore for a Best Western a disappointing experience and not the facilities I would have expected.

Review 14:The room was a little on the small side but it didn't bother us.

Review 15:A comfortable clean room, centrally located, and with easy wifi facilities. We reserved parking with no problem and the helpful gentleman at reception gave us a fantastic recommendation of a restaurant for dinner.

Review 16:Way to connect to Wifi is not 21st century. Some rooms (like ours) are in a separate building, which seems a bit unsupervised, but that may just be an impression.

Review 17:Super breakfast. Parking (if available) is inside the courtyard (but not covered). Aircon works great for hot nights. Very clean. Cleaning crew take their job very seriously. Nespresso in the room. Super friendly staff at reception.

Review 18:no bright lighting to help see when packing - room was a bit dark and the side lights were great when all sorted but not not for hunting in luggage!

Review 19:Great location to visit the town and easy to get to. Very stylish and modern décor. Clean room, great bathroom, good coffee machine. Great staff - very helpful. Loved it

Review 20:A little on the expensive side, breakfast offer could be improved.

Review 21:The more expensive room was very comfortable, the bed excellent, the bathroom spacious and the room itself had a couch, king size bed, desk and plenty of room for luggage. Good dining suggestions made by reception. Parking available although reservation & payment required.

Review 22:Few problems with safe not working and no air condition in room . Quickly sorted by staff and new room obtained

Review 23:Friendly staff Cleanliness Location

Review 24:We liked the space the superior room afforded with its high quality en suite and separate toilet; the modern clean cut decor with its sofa and extremely comfortable large bed and the very high standard of cleanliness provided daily during our four night stay. The reception staff were extremely welcoming and provided local information to enable us to choose a restaurant for evening meal within walking distance. Throughout the stay reception acknowledged us and were helpful at all times. The breakfast room had unusual and novel decor and the staff again were welcoming. The breakfast choice was good and delicious. Our adult son's room next door was a standard room but still maintained the same quality of service. Though the hotel was in the city it was set back from the road and quiet at night. Parking was worth the daily parking fee since it was very easy to walk everywhere. A happy and enjoyable visit.

Review 25:Tea and coffee arrangements in bedroom were somewhat haphazard and inadequate.

Review 26:Character and decor delightful; staff helpful; and the library was very useful.

Review 27:This is a very old building with very modern fittings in the room and bathroom. We were on the top floor but the floor really creaked so we felt for the guest below us. Parking is a problem as the Hotel car park only hold around 10 cars.

Review 28:Hotel was ideally placed to visit the old city. The hotel is like visiting a theatre set withe use of wall paper, stone work and panel paintings. The staff were most helpful and the breakfast was.more than adequate and cost €11

Review 29:There was no staff at breakfast at all on the second day, and some of the food items had run out, so we collected our own eggs from the fridge!

Review 30:We liked the decor and the breakfast and the breakfast room was beautiful

Review 31:No English or German TV channels

Review 32:Stylish hotel in the centre, quiet, squeaky clean rooms. bit small, but ok for one night. If you come by car, include car park in booking !

Review 33:you hear the noise of the parkett (under the carpet) from the room above yours

Review 34:really good location, cool design of the lobby, you feel like spending the whole evening there, the receptionist was very polite, helpful

Review 35:Although the hotel is close to the river and the Gare d'Eau, it's a little off-centre as far as the shops are concerned.

Review 36:The staff were friendly and helpful and happily conversed in English. The room was small but adequate with a great en-suite. The downstairs breakfast room is breathtaking!

Review 37:Very comfortable and convenient, and the staff were terrific.

Review 38:The lady on reception was fantastic, such a good help. The hotel is in very good shape, nothing less than brilliant.

Review 39:L'amenagement de l'hotel

Review 40:Great, nice staff. Good facilities for disabled.

Review 41:We were really surprised as we don't like Best Western in Canada. Great decor, location, price and breakfast.

Review 42:Breakfast very expensive , No bar or restaurant in a Best Western?

Review 43:Free parking for motorcycle

Review 44:Warm greeting, lovely breakfast room.

Review 45:Very frienfly staff

Review 46:room very hot

Review 47:location

Review 48:The staff were helpful; breakfast was very good. Hotel well situated and easy to find, with parking.

Review 49:An interesting and rather quirky hotel. Brilliantly situated to explore Besancon. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 50:No fridge in the room.

Review 51:Free upgrade to bigger room with nice bath.

Review 52:It's position in Besancon and lack of facilities

Review 53:Attitude of friendly and helpful staff

Review 54:City centre location with own parking.

Review 55:The worlds worst wifi set-up. Continually having to re-validate your device.

Review 56:Nice comfortable hotel with very helpful staff. Good location.

Review 57:Really helpful staff

Review 58:Wifi maze of stairs - no lift or luggage service

Review 59:For non coffee drinkers an electric kettle would be appreciated.

Review 60:Caring and helpful staff.

Review 61:Friendly helpful staff members. Large room, beautifully appointed with up-to-the minute design elements.

Review 62:Nothing

Review 63:Everyghong

Review 64:We were on the top floor with no lift, which might not suit people with mobility problems or a lot of luggage. It was no problem for us, though.

Review 65:Good value for money.

Review 66:Quiet location but very central for the old town and had parking. Staff very friendly and helpful and had no problem recommending restaurants for evening meals as well as the local sights. Breakfast good value. Would use again

Review 67:Good location in old part of town with parking either on-site or street. Good breakfast, appreciated the cereal and dried fruit selection. Helpful staff.

Review 68:Lots of stairs, but we did not bring suitcases to the room for just one night so it did not matter.

Review 69:The room was decent size, excellent bedding and matrace, large and clean bathroom , with supply of soaps and shampo. We did not purchase Bfast so I can't comment on that part.

Review 70:Just old feel motel, but this is minor issue.

Review 71:Very nice location, friendly staff, near by excellent restaurant and historic monument. Also inside car parking is reasonable fee and convenient although messy city traffic.

Review 72:could do with a better bed (it had a lean on it) and thicker pillows. Not the hote'ls fault but they were digging up the entire city (it seemed) for a new tram system so access was difficult.

Review 73:Location,. seciure (ish) parking.

Review 74:The place looked a bit old-fashioned and the room was not very appealing. The bathroom needed painting.

Review 75:The staff was very friendly and nice. The location is perfect to visit the city by foot. It's quiet.

Review 76:Do not go near Besancon for another two years. Immense works taking place all round the city -all roads dug up, diversions everywhere, a bit of a nightmare to get into and out of, and not easy to appreciate the sites. The hotel is definitely a little worn down, and needing a refit on the ground floor level, but our room (up two floors with no elevator) was perfectly satisfactory.

Review 77:Staff very friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced parking on site. Clean, light room. Short walk to the old town centre. Very well heated room.

Review 78:1. Not the most imaginative breakfast - no meat and limited cheese.

Review 79:1. Location - quiet, near the river and citadelle, but only a few blocks from the center of town.2. The hotel is recessed approximately 50 metres off the street and therefore quiet. 3. Parking on site for only 5 euros a night. 4. Nice traditional lobby.

Review 80:Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was well aboveaverage for this grade of hotel. Considering the car parking problem inBesançon, a small fee to park at the hotel was acceptable - - but on principle-I think all hotel parking charges should be inclusive with the roomrate. The room was a little small and the toilet space very limited butagain acceptable for this grade.

Review 81:No restaurant.

Review 82:In view of the massive roadworks in the city at the moment the location of the hotel at the southern end was ideal.

Review 83:Kate, on recetion was very helpful

Review 84:friendly easy access to the town sites, parking on site for motorbikes

Review 85:On site parking difficult
