Reviews for The Hand Hotel

Review 1:None - it's an older hotel and shows some wear, but this actually adds a little charm. If you want something modern and polished, book it and pay for it.

Review 2:Great location and good value for money. Tasty breakfast!

Review 3:Hot water took a long time to come through, wasting a lot in the process.

Review 4:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Situated near the centre of Llangollen with a beautiful view of the river. A place with a lot of history.

Review 5:The breakfast was quite awful to say the least. I got to the breakfast area at about 9.15 no food at all on display,i was asked if I wanted a full English and agreed. Everything on the plate was cold and looked almost plastic. This did spoil it for me and I do hope they try harder in future because this area let's the rest of the hotel down badly.

Review 6:It is in a great location.

Review 7:Food was prompt and good value. Room was clean and comfortable, but did smell of fresh paint. Guest beer was very nice. Plenty of parking and within walking distance of all other town facilities.

Review 8:No-one on reception when I arrived after a long drive in the evening, being given a room with no wi-fi and then having to move to an different room to get it once I'd unpacked everything. I would have liked more healthy choices at breakfast - cereals, juices and tinned fruit were all full of sugar and there was no plain yoghurt on offer.

Review 9:Location, relaxed attitude, oodles of hot water. Friendly bar staff. Great buffet for cooked food at breakfast. Quiet room. Easy parking.

Review 10:Not much heat from the fire in the bedroom for the time of year (wet November)

Review 11:The bar and open fire Very central location for walking and a night out in the town The band on a Saturday night The breakfast

Review 12:Kettle in the room was "prehistoric" and it took ages to boil the water. Bathroom fan was a bit noisy..

Review 13:I did like location. Staff was very helpful and kind.

Review 14:On arrival i was given my room key only to find the bed was a complete mess and room had not been seen to from last occupant, insisted on a different room

Review 15:The car park

Review 16:Good bar atmosphere, large but old rooms but it is an old building - limited food options after 9pm and after a full day out we just wanted to relax in the bar/restaurant

Review 17:This hotel says wifi but it is non existent on rooms and slowwww in reception with no mobile signal either not a good business hotel

Review 18:Breakfast good staff good

Review 19:Right in the centre of Llangollan, nice warm snug area/bar with coal effect fires & a large carpark immediatly to the rear for easy access. Great breakfast included. We would highly recommend this place & its great value for money

Review 20:Rooms and common areas in need of an update and in their current state would put me off returning especially for a stay longer than 1 night.

Review 21:Staff, food and drinks all fantastic. Breakfast was lovely with a big choice. The bar was favourably priced and staff pleasant. Mike on Reception was excellent

Review 22:Very central so easy access to centre of town have stayed several times and recommended to friends and family food very good cleanliness excellent a beautiful old fasioned hotel kept very well Love it

Review 23:Mike on Reception, very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Room very comfortable and clean. Lucky to have river view. Bar great with friendly locals. Breakfast tasty. Helpful staff :)

Review 24:Rooms are tired. Electric wall heaters are somewhat battered. Low-light bulbs everywhere including stair wells! Time for a refurbishment, methinks.

Review 25:Male voice choir on a Friday

Review 26:unfortunately we had a bedroom that looked out at a church and the clock charmed two much. And their was no lift to the third flood.

Review 27:We did like the room it was clean and tidy . The cleaning staff where good when they clean the rooms.

Review 28:The hotel had a tired look about it & the staff were OK but lacked customer skills.

Review 29:The location was in the town centre which made it easier to explore the local amnesties.

Review 30:Decoration was a bit dated and not many channels on the TV but no major problems.

Review 31:The reception had a coal fire on arrival that was nice, nice bar area to eat and drink in.The water was very hot,had a lovely bath!! We ate in the bar on the evening and the breakfast the next morning was fresh and tasty.

Review 32:Perhaps the stairs as no lifts, but that was a fair trade off against location, room and staff.

Review 33:Staff friendly and helpful, the weekend was wonderful with music and the welsh choir. Could not fault.

Review 34:A little tatty.

Review 35:Great situation in the town, overlooking the river. Great night in the bar with Saturday nights being lively. Fishing permits on the River Dee included.

Review 36:If I had one criticism it would be the stairs I will ask for room on a lower floor next time as the stairs are a bit of a killer

Review 37:Lovely hotel last minute booking very clean comfy the food was lovely both evening and breakfast very enjoyable stay will definitely visit again

Review 38:There was nobody to let us in the hotel at 2am and no key provided. At breakfast needed to constantly ask for more hot water , cutlery etc .

Review 39:The meals were very good value for money and friendly staff

Review 40:Not good for disabled people, lots of stairs, no lift. Bedrooms dated, but clean, pillows like planks.

Review 41:Good position, good parking, nice public rooms, plenty of hot water, great breakfast.

Review 42:Demand for payment immediately upon my arrival: no word of welcome, no invitation to see my room. Breakfast good, although it did not correspond to my order.

Review 43:I was lucky enough to have a view over the river. A member of staff kindly let me use the hotel computer to check my mails. Useful car parking close at hand

Review 44:Hotel decor is a little tired and therefore expensive for what it is. Staff though very friendly. Cooked breakfast good but no real "continental" type choice.

Review 45:Close to town centre very near to station

Review 46:I said wife is disabled but got no phone call back on this. Hotel is not suitable for disabled. No lift but stairs to rooms and also stairs up to dining room. No grab handles in shower. Cable on kettle short so had to use it on the floor.

Review 47:Location. Friendly, helpful staff. Good parking

Review 48:Dinner not great. Wife's vegetable curry turned into chicken curry & when returned still had small pieces of chicken in it. Overdose of oregano in lasagne.

Review 49:Comfy room with lovely view of river & beyond. Convenient for town & has on site parking

Review 50:The room was old and run down. The bathroom was in a poor state and the hot water system archaic. Very noisy and the bed needs to be replaced.

Review 51:Location was central to town

Review 52:Bed was really uncomfortable.. Looked like they were having a good sort out with the mattresses as there was a skip full of them in the car park

Review 53:Location was brilliant! En suite was bigger than the room itself!

Review 54:Single beds very poor standard and uncomfortable No view from window Hotel in need of updating decor

Review 55:Staff helpful Lovely breakfast Handy location Good parking Double bed comfy

Review 56:The Hand Hotel should put two drinking glasses in the double rooms instead of one. We couldn't find the TV remote. It wouldn't cost much, and would be a nice touch to put biscuits with the tea and coffee.

Review 57:The group on Saturday night were really good. I enjoyed the breakfast and the breakfast room was very smart.

Review 58:The bedroom was outdated and in need of a thorough revamp. We booked a double and got a family which did not reflect the quality of the room in the photo. The hotel did not have any notification of our booking although Booking.com sent me a confirmation. The breakfast was standard. No extractor in the bathroom, therefore all damp.

Review 59:It was a friendly hotel.

Review 60:Food in the bar was very poor. Tried it twice, left most of it both times Toaster didn't cook first time round, then incinerated it when put through again.

Review 61:Very friendly & helpful staff. The bed was really uncomfortable but mattress was changed after 1st night with a v comfy one

Review 62:male breakfast staff need to be more self aware, yawning continuously throughout the service obviously had a late night.

Review 63:Easy going hotel, well catered for, staff very helpful, will return.

Review 64:Some rooms are noisy particularly Saturday when entertainment is on but finishes reasonable time.

Review 65:I regularly stay hear. Nice and clean. Friendly staff. Excellent location

Review 66:The beds moved far too easily making it a little difficult for my elderly dad to get on the bed. The cloth headboards need re-thinking. They seem to be stained with head grease. The band that was playing was a little too loud, making it uncomfortable to listen to.

Review 67:The staff and the location

Review 68:The great menu of in house food finished at 20.30 and as I arrived at 20.40 I was really disappointed to have to walk around the surrounding area to find they all closed around the same time - kebab meat and chips was OK but not what I expected !!

Review 69:Great friendly staff and location

Review 70:The bathroom needed a bit of an update.

Review 71:The staff were friendly and helpful. the location was lovely overlooking the river Dee. The Hand was in a good central location.

Review 72:Drinks from the bar were poor quality. Breakfast service lacked organisation and not enough tables for all guests.

Review 73:Location of hotel and room overlooking the river was good.

Review 74:Unable to use Wi-Fi except in entrance hall - staff aware of the problems, so your mobile phoned upgrade offer should not include Wi-Fi in rooms

Review 75:Convenience and river view.

Review 76:Many complicated stairways and no passenger lift when carrying heavy luggage.

Review 77:Pleasant traditional hotel in excellent location if you get a view over the River.

Review 78:The hotel fire alarm went off accidentally twice early in the morning around 7.00 a.m. which disturbed sleep.

Review 79:Cleanliness, comfort, quietness, good value for money, convenient location in town centre, ample parking

Review 80:Room 38 shower was rubbish. It was like being dribbled on I was up on the 3rd floor with no lift so struggled with my cases

Review 81:Location was excellent Food was well cooked and enjoyable

Review 82:The bed was poor. No lift - step stairs to 3rd floor bedroom. No offer of help with luggage. Could have had more seating in the garden

Review 83:Right in the centre of Llangollen with free parking, yet room was quiet. Live music in bar in the evening. Garden overlooking the river - wonderful view.

Review 84:The only things they could have done is to provide free wi-fi and replaced the aged TV in the room. Otherwsie an excellent stay

Review 85:The hotel was really nice, the staff were friendly and the food was excellent

Review 86:Hotel is an old building with lots of stairs but can't actually say we didn't like it as it was what we expected from previous reviews. Car parking not great.

Review 87:Brilliant location, fantastic breakfast and value for money (we stayed 3 nights) nice dining room with lovely views of the river and Bran Dinas on the hill

Review 88:The staff were without exception friendly, efficient and helpful. There was a very entertaining and original jazz group playing on Sat evening. The hotel is right in centre of town, with parking - & garden overlooking the Dee.

Review 89:The mattress on the bed was lumpy.

Review 90:Beautiful location with very friendly staff. Room size and facilities were good. Being able to bring our dog along and being made welcome. Breakfast served in a lovely restaurant and an excellent standard.

Review 91:Couldn't fault this hotel for the money we payed excellent service, food was very good self service which is great a must stay again hotel

Review 92:Pleasant staff always helpful beautifully clean rooms and bathroom well equipped with all toiletries needed for their guests Would recommend to friends and family. Llangolen is a peaceful tranquil place for any persons who want a restful break or longer holiday

Review 93:The hotel is all rather faded and the room quite shabby. The mattress on the bed was clearly very old.

Review 94:Good location with pleasant garden overlooking the river.

Review 95:Could not get wifi, nowhere did it tell you the password.

Review 96:Location was great, quiet until around 7am, everyone was very friendly, breakfast was very nice.

Review 97:Nonthing to complain about will be back.

Review 98:location lovely staff great jazz afternoon on the sunday . large room with great view of the church so lovely to hear the bells of a morning Only an hour from home ..

Review 99:Water pressure out of the shower wasn't very good and took a while to heat up

Review 100:Always book this hotel when staying in Llangollen, safe carpark, friendly staff, great location and great breakfast

Review 101:The hotel is really tired, it is in need of renovation. We stayed for 2 nights but had to change rooms late at night on the first night, the first room we was in had a broken toilet, faulty door lock and the bathroom light was also broken. We waited in for someone to attempt to fix the problems but he couldn't fix them. We were going out for the evening, with friends but spent half the night waiting around and when we got back in we had to change rooms.our first night in this hotel was completely spoilt. We was told that we would be given a free night but we had already paid. When we checked out I mentioned it and the receptionist and he said that he would confirm that we was entitled to a refund and telephone me but I never heard anything and didn't get a refund. The second room that we was given had a broken shower. On our second morning, there was 10 of us having breakfast which was a help yourself buffett breakfast. 4 of our party asked if there was a vegetarian option and we were given one veggie sausage each, which I thought was a bit poor.

Review 102:The hotel is in a good location over looking the river. It has a large car park and a lively bar at night time with live music at the weekends.

Review 103:Carrying my suitcase up all those stairs to the top but the view was worth the effort.

Review 104:It was so handy to all we wanted to do. Great car parking, very helpful staff.

Review 105:No lift made steep and narrow stairs a challenge. Bedroom and bathroom lighting was miserly. Bar spirit prices were high. Beers however were reasonable

Review 106:Staff were very welcoming and service was good. Food was very good

Review 107:Ensuite in second room was small ...ok for me but would be difficult for a bigger person . Lock on room door was broken.Otherwise ine.

Review 108:Fantastic stay in room with a river view , excellent rooms, excellent breakfast choice and quality. Staff are very friendly and very helpful . Due to a cancellation i was able to stay extra night, housekeeper moved my case to a new room. Car Parking was difficult and Nick ,on reception, found me a space to park my car...Booked again for next year !

Review 109:Was not made aware they have a live band every Saturday night. therefore this is not a quiet relaxing hotel for a weekend break. Not advised if you need to get up early the next morning!

Review 110:Beautiful views, friendly staff. Good location.

Review 111:Beware Saturday nights can be very busy in the hotel bar but really there is not really anything to not like.

Review 112:Great charm, excellent location with plenty of parking. Clean tidy rooms and facilities. Staff were all very nice and provided a good quality of service.

Review 113:Many stairs to climb! Wifi not in the roomsold fashioned comfort

Review 114:Very friendly and helpful staff, romantic view of the river, wonderful concert of the local men's choir on Friday evening

Review 115:The hotel is a little dated and unfortunately the bed wasn't very comfortable.

Review 116:The location of the hotel was great, ample parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Dog friendly :) Good view from our window. There is a bar and restaurant which was good.

Review 117:I think the hotel is a bit pricey at £90 per night considering that some of the bedrooms are quite tired and could do with a bit of modernisation, however having said that I would stay again because the restaurant was so lovely and there was a good safe place to leave the car.

Review 118:Best car park of all the hotels in llangollen. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and the service was great, lovely bar area too nice and relaxing for an afternoon drink.

Review 119:Room bit dated, wallpaper peeling off, cracked sink, no nets on windows so needed to close curtains. We could see directly down into another bedroom as no net curtain or window screening. Bed lumpy!!

Review 120:Location, everything on your door. Views from garden.

Review 121:Bed not very comfortable.

Review 122:Old building. Lots of character. Wonderful views. Large room. Bath and shower, lots of hot water. Great breakfast. Own public bar. Quiet hotel. Lots of free parking.

Review 123:Old bed,

Review 124:We stayed in a room over looking the river great views may not be happy if you do not have this view depending on the price you pay. Hotel is a little dated but didn't bother us, floors creaky, can be noisy at weekends {I wear ear plugs}. The lady who arrived us and later helped in the bar and in the dining room and was also there the next morning for breakfast was a human dynamo, she was fabuous {we arrived Sunday 24th May in the pm}

Review 125:The decor in the bedroom was a little dated and the bathroom fittings needed updating but otherwise clean and comfortable.

Review 126:The Hand Hotel was central with lovely views over the river. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 127:Bed was a little hard for my taste but not too bad.

Review 128:Staff were helpful and pleasant. Room 19 is a lovely family room with beautiful view of the river. Food was tasty. Their beer garden on the river was perfect to sit and have a drink and our dogs loved it too.

Review 129:Bed a little bit too firm!

Review 130:Booked v last minute but pleased with hotel although decor a little dated and tired. Excellent breakfast comfortable room looking over the river. Staff very helpful and pleasant and thoroughly enjoyed the Rock band that evening!

Review 131:I think the band should have probably stopped playing at 23.00.

Review 132:It was nice to find somewhere that we could also take our dog too. Very comfortable and great that it had a car park. The entertainment was very good at night.

Review 133:From the outside the hotel looks "tired" but the interior especially the rooms make up for that. I have visited the hotel bar many times and never knew the restaurant existed. Escellent beer garden across the road.

Review 134:Difficult access internally to bedrooms if have any mobility problems - due to the age of the property, so also part of it's charm!

Review 135:Fantastic view from bedroom overlooking the river. Easy access to all of llangollen. Plenty of hotel parking.

Review 136:On Saturday we returned to find that our room had not been serviced. In the evening we were disturbed by a live band playing below our room. We felt that we should have been warned when we checked in. We were given a different room but were further disturbed by noisy people leaving the hotel. We have written to the manager but this has not been acknowledged.

Review 137:staff could not have treated us better polite courteous . breakfast was the best we have had for a long time in any hotel. I would give this hotel 5 stars for value location and service and would highly recommend a visit.

Review 138:room 5 far too small should be a single room unable to open wardrobe door due to bed in way beds uncomfortable pillows of poor quality no pillow protectors. very noisy in corridors late at night . bar meals a little expensive for what we had. sunday lunch not very nice . toilet not working

Review 139:hotel next to river nice view out of dinning room hot water every day

Review 140:Wi-Fi only available on the ground floor and I wasn't informed of that when I requested the code. So I left without using it.

Review 141:Located just a very short walk from the centre and large private car park.
