Reviews for Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa

Review 1:Very hard to find any fault at all.

Review 2:Great location for beach walks and Arundel. All staff without exception were polite, friendly and helpful. Lovely spa with excellent facilities. Amazing breakfast! We would not hesitate to recommend this hote.

Review 3:Food : some of the meals arrived cold at the table. . (Breakfasts, however, were excellent and Gabor and Louise gave excellent service. )

Review 4:The Spa and massages by Georgina and Holly. . We loved the log fires every evening... so cosy and original. Hotel, thatch house,surroundings...all very lovely. A good and welcoming atmosphere overall.

Review 5:The hotel overcompensates for winter with its heating - which is supplemented by lots of open fires. In other words, it was too hot. Most people wouldn't moan about this though - being picky.

Review 6:Beautiful buildings and grounds. Excellent spa and pool centre. A lovely old world, comfortable feel, but with all the modern necessities like good wifi and cold Champagne.

Review 7:The food was poor. Earlier this year we stayed at Ellenborough Park Hotel in Oxfordshire and for about the same price the cuisine was near-Michelin Star standard. Food and service in the restaurant were poor when the broken out cost for the meal was £52 and a very ordinary breakfast for £23 PH.

Review 8:Very quaint buildings, beautiful authentic medieval room. Our dog felt genuinely welcome.

Review 9:A bit pricey, even for a high end hotel. Reception area very cramped and they got date of booking wrong (though upgraded us as a result). Bed also a bit too soft.

Review 10:Really beautiful place, lovely room with period furnishing, great indoor and outdoor pools (didn't try spa), good restaurant, close to sea.

Review 11:Perhaps a little pricey for the spa treatments

Review 12:We really enjoyed our stay here, we had a great time with our little dog as it is only a short walk to the beach. We really enjoyed the spa facilities and we both had some treatments whilst we were there which we really enjoyed :) The staff were amazing and very attentive and the vegan menu in the restaurant was very impressive!

Review 13:our room was below a family room with wooden floors - we had a lot of noise early in the morning which wasn't ideal!

Review 14:beautiful location and helpful staff

Review 15:We had to send both of our breakfasts back because they were burnt. They should not have been allowed to leave the kitchen. It was quite poor that we were put in the position that we had to complain.

Review 16:Evening meal was excellent. Outdoor pool area very good.

Review 17:Minor communication niggle between Reception and Restaurant.

Review 18:The room, the staff, the spa, the location and the complimentary half bottle of champagne !

Review 19:Our room was above the kitchen and was a bit hot and noisy. Evening dinner was a bit pricey and some dishes were a little over-complicated.

Review 20:A truly wonderful location, right near quiet beach, very pretty hotel and room, excellent bathroom with big bath. Great range of garden and indoor games. Spa was lovely and breakfast excellent. The open fire in the room would have been very romantic in winter.

Review 21:Room didn't reflect rate, expected more of a wow factor from a Johansen's hotel. Dogs allowed in hotel lounge areas was a surprise. When busy the reception format (desk in a corridor) did not provide good customer service

Review 22:Spa area high quality. Excellent restaurant

Review 23:Bailiffscourt combines comfort, relaxation and luxury, in a very special setting with its own story. There are imperfections, which only matter if you choose to let them. My dad advised me to judge a hotel by its breakfast. Well dad, it's right at the top.

Review 24:Beautiful buildings with great historic style. Wonderful grounds. Lovely pools - indoor and outdoor. Beach only 5 minutes walk away. Staff were incredibly attentive and charming. Great food.

Review 25:Food was poor - had to send back main course. Staff helpful and then off bill, but simply not nearly good enough, especially given high prices. Breakfast was also poorly cooked - bright yellow oil used to fry eggs and all very greasy. Although spa facilities are lovely, massage was very average (and I'm a trained therapist!)

Review 26:Beautiful setting, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely spa, especially pool

Review 27:This was the second time we had stayed here first time was a 9 for us as we had had a small cottage room this time we were in the main house very small and no wardrobe also plumming for toilet a bit hit and miss but the food had improved a lot

Review 28:We liked the area and the food also the swimming pools

Review 29:Being woken up on a Sunday morning at 7:50 by a vacuum cleaner! Nothing said as a minor annoyance.

Review 30:Everything matched our expectations from location to food and drink. Great pool!!

Review 31:Our room felt in need of a little love, it was feeling a bit dated. A fresh lick of paint would serve it well.

Review 32:Beautiful location, the communal parts of the hotel are lovely - and the spa and swimming pools were great.

Review 33:Overall good but not "top notch". Staff efficient but a little impersonal. The breakfast was ok but predictable; not enough choice for special diets. Overall expensive for what you get.

Review 34:Small and intimate, lovely feel. The spa is good, pleasant grounds and rooms well appointed. Nice having an outdoor swimming pool and very peaceful communal areas.

Review 35:Wifi signal weak in bedroom, room slightly too warm due to towel rail permanently switched on.

Review 36:Excellent quality of food, service and staff. Hotel has great character and beautiful surroundings.

Review 37:Didn't have a bad experience but we found the hotel is not good for people who have difficulty walking. Stone stairs everywhere and a real route march to get to many of the rooms.

Review 38:We attended a wedding there which went wonderfully well and the staff were very helpful and pleasant

Review 39:Stayed in the Reigate Room; The bathroom needs to be maintained, the edge all around the bath had paint coming off and old from wear & tear and grouting old - expected that as it was newer to be kept up at the price paid. The carpet layers outside my door had a great discussion at 7.45 am about laying masking tape etc ready for later; when I am supposed to be have a lay in and chilling!!

Review 40:I loved the atmosphere in the beautiful, medieval Hotel - stunning, cosy corners to read, soft lighting. Staff were excellent, professional yet friendly. Location great and the Spa was awesome. Food was lovely.

Review 41:Our room was on the ground floor & we felt that people could look in. We were also hoping for a medieval style room but had a contemporary style. Also the water pressure in the bathroom was very low & therefore the shower not great. We did have a lovely stay though!

Review 42:LOVED the location..in the country and 2 minute walk to the beach. Loved the medieval style buildings. Loved the Spa.

Review 43:We traveled here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was lovely! The best hotel we have stayed in. The staff were all amazing and the room was very romantic.

Review 44:Booked a superior double room, room beautiful, view a brick wall, albeit 10 feet away!

Review 45:What's not to like, overall experience first class. Staff wonderful, food superb, couldn't fault a thing, except.......

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:Wonderful stay, superb setting and the staff were fantastic, especially when they repeatedly had to help retrieve my drone from the trees! Thank you

Review 48:Dinner was good but pudding let it down badly. Breakfast was fair. Service very slow at meal tmes

Review 49:The location is excellent and the facilities were good. Loved the hotel décor and , surrounds. Our room was lovely but the barking dogs downstairs were a bit off putting.

Review 50:The food for dinner was disappointing. The main courses lacked flavour and both deserts had some elements that were dry.

Review 51:The ambiance was very relaxed and not at all stuffy as so many other country hotels often are. The spa was first class.

Review 52:Just a suggestion with the afternoon tea, it would be good to have a few more sandwiches as it was very "sweet" heavy. A bit disappointed with our initial room as although it was a Bank Holiday Monday and the hotel only had 11 rooms booked, we were given an inadequate room for the amount of money paid. We were however, delighted with the upgraded room.

Review 53:The staff, the room, the spa, food, grounds, ambience, the little lounges and afternoon tea was delicious.

Review 54:Only slight irritation was the duvet on the bed which was so heavy and thick felt rather claustrophobic so in hindsight I should have asked for something lighter!

Review 55:Excellent hotel to visit with dogs who are welcomed - great access to the beach through the grounds, very peaceful setting and we'll run hotel.

Review 56:Only the fact that the rooms and hotel restaurant were extremely warm and not able to be controlled in the bedrooms, other than opening the windows. 14/2/2015 Heating seemed to be on overdrive!

Review 57:We loved the friendly/welcoming atmosphere and food was wonderful as was the service.

Review 58:The bed was very comfortable but we were woken in the morning by the various activities of tradesmen and cars on the gravel.

Review 59:Staff were very helpful and made our stay most enjoyable. Our dog was also made to feel at home and special arrangements were made so that we could eat our meals with the dog.

Review 60:Nothing!!

Review 61:I booked Bailiffscourt for a surprise wedding anniversary present for my wife and the place exceeded all of my expectations, the setting, weather, staff and food were superb. I cant rate the place highly enough and would definitely visit again. Bailiffscourt is 1920's "folly" which appears to be a tudor building but was infact constructed from an old farmhouse in the late 20's/30's which gives it that old world feel with a few (only a few) modern touches to make your stay quite memorable. Give it a go and enjoy.

Review 62:The room was far too small and had inadequate electrical sockets. I had to stretch an extension lead across the bed to use my straighteners. My husbands evening meal was poor, the duck was tough. We would never stay there again

Review 63:Location, Breakfast

Review 64:There was a wedding going on when we were there and a few of the wedding guests were very loud - not want u want when you've paid a lot for a relaxing break.

Review 65:Lovely place to spoil yourself - setting and hotel amazing - want to go back...

Review 66:All of it

Review 67:The £299 superior room was crawling with bugs, curtains were hanging off, took 30mins to get checked in and the room facilities were very poor.

Review 68:Each stay gets better and better. Having stayed 3 times would thoroughly recommend this hotel and spa. The staff are polite and helpful and can not do enough to make your stay the best possible.

Review 69:Not enough dog bins. Noisy fellow guests clomping about and flushing the loos and banging doors in the middle of the night. Unless absolutely necessary, no one needs to flush a loo in the wee small hours!

Review 70:Swimming pool fantastic. Walk on the beach likewise. Dog very welcome. Staff very attentive and friendly. Lovely ambience.

Review 71:To have connection to internet-send & receive emails, or mobile connection were impossible. I was in the middle of an important transaction and I had to use the landline to keep in touch- which meant I spent most of my time stuck in the room. Some holiday. On the food front. The menu and dishes left a lot to be desired. The food was pretentious, and they did not get it right. It would have been easier to stick to simpler dishes and do it properly. Some portions were ridiculously small- in the nouvelle cuisine style. Also, there was no soup in the menu, except a cold soup. The Internet/mobile problem was terrible. At one point, I thought of returning the London. I complained, but got the stock reply. "YOU ARE THE FIRST TO COMPLAIN OF THIS". Yet the whole personnel kept saying, yes the connection around here is non existent. Because of this, we will NOT return. On this score, The hotel staff were arrogant and disingenuous. Yet the hotel is not cheap! Finally, I fail to see a room being called MUSIC ROOM, with no piano in it? Why was it called MUSIC ROOM. You might as well call another BATH ROOM, with no bath.

Review 72:There was no hot water when we arrived, therefore it was difficult to wash etc in cold until it was rectified. Trays of used breakfast crockery was left outside on the green for a good few hours and was only removed after a phone call. Food serve was slow.

Review 73:The area. The beach. The food was good and quite a good choice. The room was nice.

Review 74:I was told not to get out of the bar where I was waiting for a bottle of water by a waiter. Even though we had been sitting in the bar the previous night and other diners came and went. My room was very dark and claustrophobic even though it was a "feature room". The swimming pool was too cold to comfortably swim in.

Review 75:The location near the sea

Review 76:The staff were fantastic every one of them. Beautiful location, amazing outside pool and hot tub, fantastic food and a lovely room ensured 24 hours of total relaxation. We'll be back!

Review 77:The fact that the restaurant menu was invariant every day, but this was an instance of staff help which resolved the problem to our entire satisfaction.

Review 78:The friendliness and quality of care from staff was outstanding.

Review 79:Breakfast was average we waited about 20mins to be served breakfast and and junior staff didn't seem on the ball.

Review 80:The room was lovely food was good - dinner

Review 81:Of course the location, cuisine and rooms themselves are undeniably first rate I have to say our experiences with the staff were unrivaled when it comes to the delivery of the epitome of customer care. The balance between formality, attentiveness and familiarity was incredibly well portrayed and the Directors should be applauded in allowing their staff to actually show their personality, so often devoid at luxury retreats. Unequivocally, high end hospitality at it's very best. Craig Davis

Review 82:We were welcomed by the staff

Review 83:The hotel lacks atmosphere . I suspect the young staff are somewhat suppressed.

Review 84:Beautiful setting and buildings. Beautifully kept, very clean.

Review 85:Lunch menu wasn't the best considering the price.

Review 86:Friendly staff, peaceful location and professional service.

Review 87:Very comfortable bed. Log fire. Friendly staff. Left feeling we had been there for longer than one night a very Relaxing environment.

Review 88:Nothing to dislike

Review 92:Grounds and proximity to the beach. The food was delicious

Review 93:Very hot in rooms

Review 94:Lovely food beautiful buildings lovely grounds

Review 95:The staff friendliness, the room & the food plus excellent service.

Review 96:Spa staff questioning my daughter's age. Very clubby hotel atmosphere

Review 97:The grounds

Review 98:Wonderful restaurant and helpful staff

Review 99:Difficult to reach bedside light.Bathroom no hand rail. Mirrors poor.Long and difficult stairs to bedroom. .bo hand rail

Review 104:We found the four poster bed a bit small.

Review 105:Fantastic food, great facilities, very pleasant and helpful staff. Will definitely go back.

Review 107:Not as clean as should be on first day; decor, bedding not been updated recently

Review 108:Amazing spot, lovely staff, beautiful buildings

Review 109:Beautiful place with lovely rooms, spa and restaurant

Review 110:Rooms lots of character and not like anywhere else
