Reviews for Swan Hotel
Review 1:The live band on both nights was great while we were downstairs, however the noise did travel up to our room. It wasn't overly loud and really I'm just nitpicking, otherwise it was lovely!
Review 2:Location in the centre of Arundel is a perfect place to start any activity.
Review 3:No view and the room was noisy at night with traffic. The initial receptionist was not that good but other staff were excellent and friendly. Always helpful. When I arrived I told them I was recovering from flu and needed somewhere warm. The room was quite cold at first.
Review 4:The food was good and varied at breakfast. The accommodation was spacious. The room was warm at night. It was clean and and well appointed, although the flow of water in the shower was quite weak
Review 5:The room was extremely small and we booked a superior room as we wanted a separate shower. The room had a shower over the bath. The superior rooms showed you may get a bath but there would definitely be a double separate shower. We also booked a separate room for our son, which was a lot cheaper and much larger. Confusing rates.
Review 6:Location was good.
Review 7:The radiator in our room was difficult to operate. Despite being December,we slept with both windows open because it was impossible to turn down.
Review 8:Location, decor, comfort, food. All fantastic. Great spot to escape to the country for a weekend.
Review 9:The room was decorated very nicely, but incredibly cramped. We were there on New Year's Day. Staff were tired and unhelpful - we checked they would be serving dinner that evening and then were told that that the kitchen had closed before 8pm. Nothing terrible but they just didn't seem to care much and it was disappointing. You have to pay for parking.
Review 10:The location on the High St was great. It's a lovely homely pub downstairs and nicely decorated rooms.
Review 11:my room was noisy due to the generaters outsid the bedroom window and i could not shut the window right up .
Review 12:T.he staff were nice considering it was christmas night .Breakfast was good did not wait long for service,
Review 13:Had a brief but lovely one night stay at the swan hotel. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent- lots of choice. The hotel is right on the high street and Arundel is such a lovely place for a wander around.
Review 14:An open fire and sofas to lounge and read would have been the icing on the cake !
Review 15:The theme of the hotel and the quirky names and items everywhere. The friendly and helpful staff and lovely food. Thanks to all the staff, we appreciated their care to make our Christmas visit with daughter and new puppy a happy occasion.
Review 16:Unfortunately no heat in the bathroom and a glazed door which didn't allow much privacy . In the morning one poor waitress was serving the whole breakfast service - so we waited a long time.
Review 17:The staff were very helpful and friendly . They were very obliging. The room was pleasantly decorated.
Review 18:Not really a dislike but the girl who booked us in forgot to tell us how to get back in after closing. Spent a bit of time looking.
Review 19:Breakfast was yummy. Staff polite and friendly.
Review 20:Excellent welcome, very friendly helpful staff, super clean and comfortable room, tastefully decorated nice little touches. Lovely atmosphere all round and a superb breakfast !
Review 21:The food was lovely but starters and sweets very over priced. The tea in the room was horrible it would be nice for a cup of ordinary tea.
Review 22:The room was lovely.
Review 23:Car parking is a nightmare in Arundel and the hotel has no car park. This meant moving the car around the "street" parking or topping up meters. Not ideal for anyone with limited mobility
Review 24:Very central location - shops, restaurant, castle etc all within 5 mins walk
Review 25:The room ( Room 1) didn't live up to expectations. Very small with a poor outlook. Fan from next door restaurant on until 9pm then the fan from the hotel restaurant.
Review 26:Good customer service. Plentiful breakfast served in nice surroundings.
Review 27:The service in the evening was inconsistent. probably best not to use inexperienced staff on a busy Saturday night.
Review 28:The charm and history of the building is beyond compare. The food and especially the breakfast was outstanding.
Review 29:The bed was a double - it's always nice to have a queen!
Review 30:Lovely pub right in the heart of town. Nice details in the rooms, such as a bathrobe and slippers. Really delicious food in the restaurant. Could have eaten there every meal. Very nice to have a generous breakfast included.
Review 31:Room was gorgeous and I informed them that it was a special occasion and they had flowers and champagne waiting in the room. Can't thank them enough
Review 32:Only one barman on duty serving customers and checking us in. The food at dinner was so-so, maybe the menu is a bit over-ambitious.
Review 33:Executive double was quite spacious with a sofa and a nice big well-equipped bathroom. The waiting staff at dinner and breakfast were friendly and efficient.
Review 34:A little noisy if you are trying to have a lie in in the mornings. Although ithe hotel was pretty good, it was slightly over priced.
Review 35:Breakfast was good. Great location for everything. Food in restaurant was very tasty and pretty good value for money.
Review 36:the 1 night stay.breakfeast was cold had to ask for toast.dont expect to hear how short staff they are .whilst having breakfeast management was having meeting could hear all issues, not very professional. Went to have nice bath water was lukewarm very disappointed. ? Staff need to be more helpful towards paying customers.
Review 37:The room was lovely, although did not ask for executive, we only requested standard.
Review 38:I found my room a little cold and because my room was in the roof, the windows were not fully covered by curtains. The curtain kind of half covered the bathroom door. Never the less, the room was still nicely decorated and this is just the design of the old building. so not a major problem.
Review 39:The food was really nice in the evening and great breakfast to. The room was nicely decorated. Complimentary brownies, nice little touch in the room.
Review 40:Booking.com had an option when booking online to add additional requests. I requested a bottle of champagne and chocolates in the room as our stay was for a 50th birthday treat. There was nothing in our room :( The room also stated it had a bath and shower. Unfortunately, there was no bath.
Review 41:Friendly staff Very comfortable bed
Review 42:The Bed was far too high off the ground and difficult to manage. WI FI was a very poor reception. CAR PARK. Only municiple available and had to constantly feed the meters.
Review 43:The Staff - The Food - The Location, Arundel is a really beautiful country town. The Castle is a must to view.
Review 44:Overall a comfortable hotel, but our room was very hot, we could not get the air-conditioner to cool it down and when we mentioned it to the staff they just asked us if we had told them about it. It was a bit expensive too when compared to other hotels we had stayed in (see Hotel La Tour, Birmingham)
Review 45:Comfortable room, hotel well-placed for Goodwood, good breakfast.
Review 46:There was a slight mix up with the room but that was resolved and was given a bottle of prosecco as a good will gesture.
Review 47:A great location, very staff and enjoyed an excellent dinner and breakfast. Would stay there again.
Review 48:Rooms at front off hotel bit noisy in morning as market was being set up at 5:45 am (room16) .no dressing table
Review 49:Great location but would recommend room at the back of the hotel Fab breakfast, with lots of choices
Review 50:We got an upgrade which was very nice however, not sure I would want to pay the full price for that room.
Review 51:well positioned for a visit to the very pretty town of Arundel. Smart bar with a good atmosphere.
Review 52:No outside space for smokers. Mugs instead of cups and saucers in room and at breakfast.
Review 53:Great location, friendly staff, lovely room. Nice ambience in the bar.
Review 54:Room was fine but getting to room was smelly due to kitchen cooking smells - not a big deal but was off putting on arrival.
Review 55:Lovely room and good breakfast.
Review 56:Tiny bedroom was ok but bathroom a bit tatty and needed a better clean
Review 57:Staff were lovely and very helpful other than the very snippy older breakfast waitress
Review 58:If I was being very critical I would have liked more storage in the bedroom. And also having no parking at the hotel was a bit inconvenient. However overall we were very pleased with our stay.
Review 59:We liked the location, very convenient for the whole of Arundel, all walkable, the room was well decorated and both the breakfasts and the food in the evening were excellent.
Review 60:Room was on the small side and had a dormer window so a bit hot. Manager's response excellent.
Review 61:Location was great for strolling around Arundel. Comfortable room and excellent breakfast.
Review 62:Breakfast could have been better. No offer of toast other than slice given with poached egg. Selection of fruits could have been better.
Review 63:Comfortable bed.
Review 64:The bedroom was a standard room at a cost of £125 per night. It was too small for two people and not enough room for. 2 suitcases. The shower room/toilet was so small you could hardly move. We are not big people and we struggled so if you like space or are of a bigger build check when you book which room you are getting. Ours was room 1
Review 65:Staff were very friendly and helpful and the public areas are all very pleasant. Location worked well for us and overall we enjoyed our stay. But the room we had was too small for us
Review 66:Could do with a spruce up which wouldn't cost a lot. Some signs of wear and tear. Was quite expensive but high season. However overall a good location and I'd stay here again.
Review 67:Location is great. Rooms are functional. Bed comfy enough.
Review 68:Nothing. However, if you are easily disturbed ask for a room at the back as the front rooms overlook the road and deliveries start early!
Review 69:Very friendly staff, good location. Very good value, beer great!
Review 70:Not a huge issue, but we couldn't connect to the wifi in the room. Also we felt it was a little overpriced for a pub with rooms-albeit nicely decorated ones. A bath would have been great.
Review 71:The staff were good, the rooms were nicely decorated with great touches likes a robe and slippers. Location is great and in general it is very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 72:My husband is a coeliac (has a gluten free diet) and therefore he could have been given extra eggs and bacon, as he couldn't have anything else from there. Price of room is slightly expensive.
Review 73:Very good location. Friendly staff.
Review 74:Our room was in the roof space so there were height issues and I would request a room on the first floor or lower in future, the water did not get as hot as might be expected, though we didn't need it at the time of our visit.
Review 75:The restaurant and bar facilities were great, the location perfect for our particular visit and it was a nice small town without the usual big names abounding.
Review 76:Slightly random service at breakfast: why did an order for tea for two one morning produce a half-full teapot without a lid? But other servers were on the ball.
Review 77:Great location, interesting building, splendid breakfasts.
Review 78:This was a late booking for a honeymoon night and the staff were most helpful and upgraded the room and included complementry drinks, flowers & choclates.
Review 79:All the staff we met were helpful and friendly. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The bar area was attractive and the the standard of food excellent.
Review 80:Staff professional and helpful - when my partner asked for mojito, the initial 'I'm afraid we don't have any mint' was reversed when the assistant remembered they had mint growing on their roof garden - and duly despatched a colleague to pick some. Food was good quality and very tasty. Room was very warm but had efficient air con. Bed very comfortable.
Review 81:only slight problem, upgraded room for free, but then charged. more down to lack of communication among staff
Review 82:the location, the bedroom, good breakfast and choices. friendly staff
Review 83:Carrying our holiday cases up and down stairs. Staff did offer to do this.
Review 84:Friendly staff, 5 star bed and bathroom facilities superb breakfast in a relaxed and quirky dining area
Review 85:Small cluttered room, could not open window, noisy extractor directly outside. My request at booking for Gluten free was completely ignored. Generally not felt valued or welcome.
Review 86:Right in the centre of Arundel with a bar and restaurant.
Review 87:The cleanliness of the room was awful. We were put in a room right next to a staircade that allowed guests external access to the hotel, needless to say that there were a lot of disturbances through the night and morning. There wasnt an Iron in the room, although this was listed as being available. Im not conviced that the price of £122 for a premium room was reflective of the room we had to stay in.
Review 88:The free wifi would have been useful if we needed it. Breakfast was very good.
Review 89:Kitchen shut so no food! Wifi broken so no wifi! No attempt made to contact me to tell me this would be so. I was lucky to book at a discounted rate if this had not been available I would not have stayed not worth £104 a night even with food and wifi.
Review 90:Comfortable bed and I got a good nights sleep. Reduction in price of £10 because no food available.
Review 91:Shame the traffic is very noisy from the high street. This disturbed our sleep. Also despite being told the pub closed at 11pm on a Sunday, the music continued past 11.30pm (our room was directly above the bar). This also disturbed our sleep.
Review 92:Lovely spacious room and bed. Nice added touch with toiletries, dressing gown & slippers. Very good room guide. Excellent breakfast.
Review 93:Parking is a bit of a pain, but not a major one,
Review 94:If Carlsberg did hotels... well it would seem with Fullers there is no IF. Simply amazing. This hotel excels at the basics. Comfy bed, Good food, friendly staff and great shower
Review 95:There is no car park although there is a public one at the back of the pub but you have to remember to go and buy another ticket if there for any length of time. My room (5) was incredibly noisy I was woken at 3.30am by what most definitely sounded like barrels being rolled around outside although the manager said there was no delivery that day, then at 5am it sounded like the street sweeper was about to come in my room! Shame I had such an awful nights sleep as the hotel was actually really nice!
Review 96:Nice comfortable rooms definitely worth upgrading to a superior one, unfortunately I had a standard room which was okay but my colleague had a superior one which was lovely. We had dinner in the restaurant which was great value, a Tuesday night special of two meals and a bottle of wine for £25, the food was excellent. Breakfast was equally as good.
Review 97:I paid for the best room and was very happy with it but the downside for me was that the staff changing room was next to it so from 0545 you would be woken by the staff unlocking the door and a few minutes later leaving also the deliveries where made at the bottom of the stairs so you were disturbed by this also.didnt expect to pay £450 for my stay and to be subjected to this in the mornings surely I should have been informed of this when booking as I would have certainly have opted for another room sorry to put a slur on an otherwise very satisfactory stay
Review 98:Staff excellent very comfortable room loved the location food and service very good too served by very friendly staff
Review 99:the TV suddenly came on at 6 a.m. in the morning, loudly waking us up! (Mon.29/6). Disappointed that the breakfast pancakes only came with one option, the description sounded like - berries, cream, honey or maple syrup so I expected either honey or syrup AND the other two. Waitress said it was not to be but did bring some berries. I needed butter with the pancakes too.... Our room No.10 - obviously there is some noise from the street in the morning, but this time there was a lot - rubbish bins? being packed away? went on for a long time about 7 a.m.
Review 100:Location is good, loved the historical inner town streets and buildings, being near the castle & cathedral. Reception/bar staff young people were friendly and helpful.
Review 101:room was very hot, we where only in room 1, so the ones in the roof must have been saunas ! couldnt open main window either !
Review 102:breakfast starts at 8am but as it was goodwood weekend they started it at 7am, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 103:Due to the hot weather we had the windows open and due to the quaintness of Arundel this did make the high street traffic more noticeable
Review 104:Relaxed friendly atmosphere and staff. Room was great and really different with some nice little additions which makes this hotel 'stand out from the rest', in particular I liked the chocolate cake!
Review 105:Upon arrival we were offered an upgraded room at no additional cost which was a good start. Breakfast was excellent. A very pleasant Hotel with very pleasant staff and an excellent location. A very relaxing two day stay and will definitely come again.
Review 106:Room too hot. But the thing that lets the bathroom down was the mouldy grouting in the shower. This really must be dealt with in room 12.
Review 107:Bed comfortable. Nicely decorared room if a little small. A nice touch of toiletries and dressing gown. Good price on a Sunday night but not worth the full price of over £100.
Review 108:Parking not available except in local authority car parks. Quite noisy first thing in the morning (refuse collection and deliveries) with windows open, which is necessary in the summer as there is no air conditioning.
Review 109:Easy to find, clean accommodation, and well placed. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 110:The bathroom's extractor fan was very noisy, it made it difficult to arrange a romantic bath.
Review 111:The room and hotel were very nicely decorated in a great location at the centre of Arundel - lovely bath and breakfast. After scouting other pubs in the area we even decided the hotel's pub was the cosiest place to hang out!
Review 112:Parking in a public car park for which you paid. No separate lounge for non drinkers and rooms facing the street were woken up at 6.30 by street cleaning lorry.
Review 113:The rooms were tastefully decorated and clean. Breakfast was superb, great choice.
Review 114:Not a four star hotel, it's a pub with accommodation. No hot water in wash basin in en suite, day or night, tepid shower, no shaver point. Very cramped en suite, 'noises off' downstairs early in the morning.
Review 115:Food, some service. Location.
Review 116:When I checked in they tried to charge me £40 than my confirmation amount - the reason for this was that they had upgraded me to a better room than I booked. Room upgrades should be free not charged for. When i came to check out the bill was still £15 over the confirmation, not happy.
Review 117:My husband had a poor breakfast on the Sunday we stayed. He had half a slice of black pudding on his plate which was hard, so he sent it back and the waitress came back with another half a slice, not good !!!
Review 118:I booked the Swan for 4 of our Global Directors the night before our Board Meeting and they were all very pleased with the facilities and ate breakfast, lunch & dinner at the hotel
Review 119:Not too clean around the toilet area and at night a noisy fan kept me awake, I think it was from the room next door. we stayed in room 14
Review 120:The Food was excellent and the staff very friendly. The room was small but well decorated
Review 121:There was a little noise from the bar late at night as staff played music while tidying up but apart from that it was quiet.
Review 122:A gastro pub with a number of rooms, the accommodation is small but there is everything you need for a short stay. We had a lovely and reasonably priced dinner there. The central location means there is no garden or car park and the public one at the back of the hotel is expensive during the day but there is free on street parking in Mill Lane, not far away.
Review 123:Our room (11) was located in a corner by the fire exit and we could hear the staff downstairs talking, laughing and slamming doors, so a bit noisy although it didn't last til late.
Review 124:I stayed one night with my daughter (6) and really enjoyed this place. It is conveniently located from the Arundel station and attractions. Staff are friendly, all our requests were granted (separate bed, late check out) and we tremendously enjoyed dinner downstairs and breakfast in bed!
Review 125:Tiny room (too small for a double bed, even though one was somehow squeezed in!), bathroom under-par (low water pressure, blocked sink), no soap (weirdly). Pricey.
Review 126:Excellent location, lovely staff, splendid breakfast, pleasant decor.
Review 127:The Air Con had broken down. The windows in the bedroom didn't open and the room was uncomfortably hot as the sun was quite strong when we stayed.
Review 128:Friendly staff. Good food. Location of hotel.
Review 129:It would have been appreciated if peppermint tea bags and a packet of complimentary biscuits could have been provided in the bedroom.
Review 130:The friendliness of the staff and the bedroom was thoughtfully furnished. We had a good night's sleep.
Review 131:A lot of stairs to climb to room and no lift, which could be a problem for some people. Complex procedure for gaining entry via fire exit after bar closed (though didn't have to use this).
Review 132:Location very convenient for Arundel town centre, riverside and castle. The room had a decent sized bathroom with bath and separate shower.
Review 133:We had a lovely stay at the Swan, the staff are great, breakfast was fabulous, room was very nice. Arundel is a lovely historic town and the weather was also good which always helps.Wifi reception free but not always good and parking is not free but still ok, Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Review 134:The room was incredibly 'compact' for the price of it. Am sure I paid more than I booked it for and therefore expected quite a lovely room. The bed was hmmmm small, the bathroom was fine if small but there did seem to be a layer of dust on everything and the second day my bed was not made up to my standards-just kind of pulled over...
Review 135:I really loved how helpful the staff were and how perfectly located it was. The breakfast was good too even if the coffee and tea were a little on the weak side.
Review 136:Wooden shatters. No curtains. As no double glazing on the bedroom window and facing the high street, a street sweeping cart was noisy in the early Saturday morning.
Review 137:Breakfast was excellent in quality, variety and setting. Convenient for Arundel sightseeing.
Review 138:You have to use the public car park, but it is free overnight.
Review 139:Boutique gastro pub style with real ale in a nice location. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere.
The Fine Print
Although the hotel does not have private parking facilities due to its prominent location in the town centre, it is located very close to a public pay display car park. It is only chargeable between the hours of 08:00 - 18:00, and overnight it is free (advisable to put a ticket on your car overnight as it does not start charging until the morning, so then saving you the inconvenience of rushing out early in the morning). There are also numerous alternative parking facilities around the town, some of which are free and all within walking distance of the hotel.Check-in after 23:00 is only possible by contacting the property at least 48 hours in advance. Reception closes at 23:00 after which access is not possible. Please note that extra beds can only be accommodated in selected Superior and Executive rooms, subject to a charge per night. These must be confirmed by the property before arrival.
