Tredethy House

Tredethy House descritpion
In peaceful grounds and countryside, Tredethy House is a relaxed, elegant English country house built in the Tudor period. It offers spacious bedrooms, many with grounds and woodland views.
At weekends, the Tratorria serves simple, delicious Italian food using seasonal and organic ingredients. An organic continental buffet is served for breakfast and includes Italian ham, fresh, local bread, warm croissants, cereal, jam, fresh fruit salad and yogurt.
The country house is in an area of outstanding beauty and a 15-mile drive from the Eden Project. Lanhydrock House and Gardens are about 5 miles away.
Tredethy House was the home of Prince Chula of Thailand until the late 60s. Today, the 7 acres of grounds at Tredethy Country House host beautiful, colorful plants, trees and flowers all through spring, summer and fall.

Reviews for Tredethy House
Review 1:The hospitality and wonderful charm of the big old house. Big room and huge bathroom lovely view from bedroom across natural valley. Two of us Sat in nice lounge with big blazing open fire, glass of wine, very chilled with Marko a great Italian host!
Review 2:A beautiful house. The room we stayed in was spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished with a wonderful view. This is one of those warm and inviting houses with an extremely homely and relaxed atmosphere. A friendly reception from Marco the owner, who also recommended an excellent place locally for an evening meal - The St Mabyn Inn, which is only a few minutes away! We enjoyed a very peaceful and comfortable nights sleep, along with our baby in his travel cot. The breakfast waitress was helpful and attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our continental breakfast, particularly the fruit salad! Sadly it rained throughout the whole weekend but we would love to return again in the summer to explore the gardens and grounds.
Review 3:What lets it down was it was really cold! The breakfast was very poor I would have expected a full English breakfast instead it was literally just toast, a few slices of cheese and ham. Certainly not the standard I would expect!
Review 4:Building was nice owner was friendly lovely location and room
Review 5:Cold bedroom with very tired, grubby furnishings and stained carpets. Lounge and dining room were also too cold to sit in comfortably. Dated bathroom with unpredictable mixer tap for shower. Meager buffet continental breakfast; had to keep asking for more, which was embarrassing. Served cold coffee which we had to send back. Lack of interest shown by owner, who didn't even want to show us to our room - just gave directions and told us if we needed anything to go back outside and ring the front doorbell!
Review 6:Quiet location and beautiful views, though not easy to find. Lady serving breakfast was very friendly though run off her feet!
Review 7:Found the whole building very cold, heating on but set very low.breakfast was thin slices of ham and cheese. Coffee was not hot Booked for 3 nights only stayed 2
Review 8:Room was very nice
Review 9:Nothing to dislike, would suggest a topper for the bed, but not memory foam, a two inch hotel topper
Review 10:Welcomed our dog, who is rather big, as though he was one of their own. It made our stay even more pleasurable
Review 11:Host welcome ok,but we seemed an inconvenience a few times It was not made clear that the bar was open, there was a child playing loud scales on the piano, breakfast small and low standard no choice of meats and cheese. Not enough tea and coffee and milk in the room. option of mugs would be good Room 1 lovely large room, dog friendly too, but needs updating and decorating Grounds unkempt, kids area giant chess set unusable and overgrown no covered smokers area just a watering can full of water and fag butts
Review 12:Location and the house itself has so much potential downstairs is lovely Log fires lovely Room 1 is a lovely size and dog friendly too
Review 13:Lack of breakfast choices, and we never did find out what was for dinner on the Friday/Saturday evenings. Bathroom décor tired, mould around bath etc.
Review 14:Quirky, lovely surroundings, well situated for days out.
Review 15:we ate in, the food was ok but a bit disappointing. I asked for tap water but was told we don't do tap water. Coffee was also not available! A shame as we did otherwise enjoy our stay and had a lovely time
Review 16:lovely property, the host Marco
Review 17:It would have been advantageous to have had the opportunity to dine in-house on other occasions rather than be limited to Fridays and Saturdays, but this was not a major issue.
Review 18:The location was very central which was ideal for exploring in any direction. The house was beautiful and full of character with lovely antique furniture and quirky touches! Our room was huge as was the en-suite bathroom. Marco, our host, was delightful and very helpful.
Review 19:A good nights sleep. Lovely and quiet. And a very nice breakfast too.
Review 20:We enjoyed our overnight stay. Quirky and lovely old house. Very enjoyable evening meal, roaring log fire, and marco an attentive very relaxed host which we loved.
Review 21:No hot water!! No Wi-Fi in rooms and toast isn't an automatic part of the breakfast menu
Review 22:Beautiful building, lovely location and a very friendly owner
Review 23:I had trouble connecting to the Wifi but thats not necessarily the fault of Tredethy House.
Review 24:Wonderful B&B with a very Italian feel with evening restaurant (Trattoria) if required. Didn't eat there but heard from other guests the food was fantastic. Beautiful period building in an excellent & very peaceful location with some great features and Room No1 was HUGE! Marco the host is great and all the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The grounds are stunning Great location for exploring Cornwall. Couldn't fault it. Will go back again.
Review 25:We had no bad experiences but the wifi connection was a little temperamental.
Review 26:The hotel was beautiful, it had a real faded grandeur feel to it. The staff were chatty and characterful and took an interest in what we had been up to each day. We had the deli board and selection of cheeses one evening and this was truly exceptional. Our stay was most memorable.
Review 27:the room was small and overlooked, cold - heating did not work, neither did heated towel rail - no evening meal available at hotel, no bar - hotel was cold - unable to change our room due to hotel being full??
Review 28:The breakfast was very nice.
Review 29:Beautiful relaxing family run hotel. Nothing was too much trouble, beautiful Italian background music in lounge to sit and relax, read to. Beautiful 7 acres, rooms are immaculate and changed daily.
Review 30:The owner was friendly and the food delicious. The house is great and so convenient for both the north and south coasts, close to Llanhydrock, National Trust property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would definitely recommend to friends.
Review 31:Nothing at all!
Review 32:The 300 year old, well maintenanced house in a beautiful, calm area Marco & his wife, who were just lovely The house is secluded but it's just a short way as well to the southern as to the northern coast The food they prepared for us as well as the wine and the self-made bread - what a nice difference to the "normal" English one ;-)
Review 33:Owner not particularly welcoming. Very matter of fact. Place cold and lacking atmosphere. No help with luggage up stairs. Wifi only in lounge. Breakfast ordinary. Pretty pictures of house very deceptive. Beware of such.
Review 34:The host did not explain very much on arrival and we found him quite rude. The breakfast was very basic. They got my meal wrong on the first night and the bread was stale. Breakfast was a joke. The coffee was cold There was only one juice and one milk. They say a selection of meats and cheeses - one of each. The room was not vacuumed during our stay. There was no soap for the shower. There was no face washer and the toiletries were very basic. This place does not warrant a 4 star.
Review 35:The location.
Review 36:The room was not as expected, should have been a double dulux room, but it was two single beds joined together, the floor cracking, towel rail & heating not working, toaster not working breakfast very limited all cold food.
Review 37:The building is beautiful
Review 38:No real bad experience, the lane leading to it was single carriageway and worrying.
Review 39:The quiet, the spacious room, the cleanliness of the bed linen, towels and tablecloths.
Review 40:Great location for cyclists going along the camel trail NCN route. Maroc made us a fabulous cheese and meats board with his homemade breads. Nice wine to go with it too! We loved the continental breakfast too.
Review 41:Bathroom was tiny, décor was fresh but very dated and done very cheaply. At breakfast I was asked if I wanted tea or coffee and that was it. I waited for someone to take my cooked breakfast order and no-one came...so I guessed it was just the cold buffet, but this was not explained. Also...no breakfast before 8.30 is not good for business travellers.
Review 42:Impressive building, scenic location, very helpful host (Marco).
Review 43:No wifi in the bedroom, children's room didn't have a telly. Breakfast was good, but very basic.
Review 44:Lovely bed, slept better than in my own at home. Romantic old building in great grounds.
Review 45:Don't start serving breakfast until 8.30am which is to late if you are on business. Bar had limited variety of drinks and had no lemonade.
Review 46:Very Peacefull and quiet.
Review 47:The owner didn't seem very friendly and when we arrived just pointed upstairs to our room rather than showing us to it. He didn't introduce himself. Room quite dark, when we arrived bin was still full of previous peoples rubbish.
Review 48:Pleasant location.
Review 49:Breakfast times were too late for us. so we had to leave that out.. Wi- Fi was so slow.
Review 50:The Peacefulness of the location. The House itself. The Owners were very welcoming. The views to die for. all Faultless!
Review 51:Bed sheets were badly stained, (they were likely clean but just shouldn't still be used) bed was broken, furniture moved when you walked around in room due to uneven floors. Staff did not ask if we enjoyed our stay, or ask for any feedback. No guest info in room, breakfast was not what I expected from an 8.4 hotel.
Review 52:Building is beautiful but needs some TLC, we checked in and out quickly.
Review 53:A very snotty landlord. The cleaners went through our things, put them in other places then we left them, very uncomfortable! No contact with cellular phone and only wifi in the lounge.
Review 54:The house, room, landlady and breakfast.
Review 55:it's a 6 and a half hour drive from where i live but that's nobodys fault but mine.
Review 56:in a place of exquisite natural beauty so quiet and peaceful the owner/manager was a nice, polite and un assuming chap. very courteous indeed
Review 57:The room was not the best in the world but we had a small dog with us and had paid a discounted rate anyway so it was not a problem really.
Review 58:Beautiful setting and very quiet-room was what I expected to be honest having read previous reviews on here...owner and his wife were delightful. We only stayed two nights though and were ejected from the breakfast room on the 2nd morning because apparently dogs were not really allowed in there but that was okay-some people just don't like dogs and the owner who came to speak to us, was torn between keeping all his guests happy.
Review 59:Disappointed that there were no evening meals and no cooked breakfasts available. Did not like dog in dining room - hope there are designated dog rooms.
Review 60:Peaceful location. Quiet pleasant music. Comfortable and unostentatious rooms.
Review 61:A shame the childrens play area was overgrown and un unable to use, the house is within 7 acres of land and has much potential.
Review 62:Lovely welcoming relaxed guest house. The building and grounds are fantastic and location is great for exploring the local area, whist staying we visited Weybridge, Rock, Padstow and Polzearh all a short drive away. The evening meal was the best Italian meal I have had - goats cheese and beatroot Nocci was delicious, followed by traditional ice cream with a hot espresso to pour!!
Review 63:Only continental beakfast . Would have prefered some option of cooked food. However, stlii a great hotel. Would visit again
Review 64:The location and classical background music.
Review 65:The fellow who ran the place was quite unhelpful, and the breakfast service was very unorganised. Could have done with some information in the room about the history of the place. It was
Review 66:It is a lovely old manor house to stay in and the grounds were excellent, and great parking
Review 67:Not bad but be warned no meat on menu but pasta excellent
Review 68:Location excellent, beautiful spot, quiet. Good food and would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet break away from everything
Review 69:No heat, but after our complaining, Marco (owner) agreed to heat our rooms, many steps to upstairs although we had help with luggage, dinner served only on weekends, no bar soap, we tried to avoid owner once he started to drink!
Review 70:Great buffet breakfast, size of rooms, setting, 300 yr old country house, Christina (owner), dinner
Review 71:To class breakfast as Continental was a disappointment . 2 types of Cheese and ham, and an apple fruit ball ( we may have been last in the queue ). Wasn't what we expected.
Review 72:Accommodation and location, beautiful
Review 73:Abit chilly before going to bed.
Review 74:We had the family room with bunk bed for our 3 and 5 year old children. They loved it and spend a lot of time playing in the room while we can relax in the sofa area.
Review 75:Atmosphere - could hear the owner listening to his own music rather than piped music on one night and F1 commentry the next. Neither were condusive to the setting and felt akward saying anything.
Review 76:Building and grounds were very nice and great views from our room
Review 77:Nothing really- we enjoyed our night there.
Review 78:The view from the bedroom was stunning and the quirky shabby chic furnishings were very characterful. This is a very unusual place and it felt like a stay in Italy rather than Cornwall with the charming Italian host and the Trattoria food. Excellent continental breakfast.
Review 79:Public rooms and hallways were cold.
Review 80:Elegant country house with lovely grounds. Owner cooked and served dinner for us and four other guests - delicious. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Very nice breakfast (continental buffet). Appreciated heater in bathroom
Review 81:We arrived quite late and were told in an offhand way that the restaurant was closed and weren't even offered a sandwich or told of an alternative place to eat, luckily we'd bought a snack on the way just in case. I didn't know the breakfast was just a continental one and it wasn't that great, with cheap ham and presliced cheese, no toast. I declined to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. The staff seemed a bit disorganised.
Review 82:The room was ok, though the bathroom radiator didn't come on, the shower was nice and hot.
Review 83:The location is fantastic, with amazing views. The House is very welcoming and elegant, carefully decorated and accessorised with everything that you need: books, magazines etc.The owner became our friend and really made us feel like home.food is excellent too.
Review 84:Confusion with booking.com whether the hotel had included our son in the booking. in the end they hadnt even though it quoted a family room, however the Host helped us out.
Review 85:Big room overlooking the countryside.
Review 86:Heating was off at 10:00 and bathroom was icy. The owner apoplogised and said staff had forgotten to switch it on. We tried all switches - to no avail
Review 87:Quiet isolated position Friendly welcome Wonderful continental breakfast with italian flavour Lovely old country house.
Review 88:Guy who ran it not very welcoming. Place was old and lots of work needed doing inside and outside (garden was very untidy and messy.) Chess board all broken kids slide all dirty and swing broken.
Review 89:Location
Review 90:Booked at the last minute during an impromptu tour of the area. Last room available but was beautifully presented and a great size. In the eaves so head room was minimal in the shower and some door ways but I am very tall. Whole hotel was classy continental country chic, but done in very good taste. Breakfast was good quality but no cooked offering. The only mildly negative thing to note was the lack of milk in the room... But the nice coffee at breakfast made up for that.
Review 91:The house is hundreds of years old, if you prefer brand-new high-end finishes, you might consider a more expensive, metropolitan place.
Review 92:In this quirky antique house outside the small town of Bodmin, you'll enjoy a rustic bohemian atmosphere, beautiful views of the quiet countryside, and a jovial Italian staff. The food at the trattoria is simple, fresh, and excellent.
Review 93:Very welcoming owner who was very helpful organising and booking a table for our evening meal as the hotel doesn't open the restaurant until later in the year. We would certainly return.
Review 94:The hotel is not well heated on very cold days, although this was not a problem to us it may be a difficulty to others used to modern hotels. Wrap up in more clothes!
Review 95:The location and the beautiful building. The interior was sparse but traditional. The coal fires were lit when we arrived bringing warmth on a cold day.
Review 96:It would be useful to have a notice on the front door to tell arriving guests to ring the (not very obvious) bell! We had to go next door to find the staff, and once found they were charming, but had been somewhat missing until then!
Review 97:Cold - hotel was unheated as was empty. Restaurant was shut. Was informed that we should have booked in advance but advert says restaurant is open at weekends. Had to drive into Bodmin which after 6 hour drive from Kent was poor.
Review 98:Great location and a beautiful house.
Review 99:The house was full of character & furnished beautifully to enhance the character too. Marko welcomed us, all the staff were wonderful & friendly too. Enjoying breakfast in the super breakfast room with wonderful grounds & views. Our room was superb, comfortable, beautifully furnished, relaxing also with wonderful views. We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay. We would definitely return to Tredethy House & the same room, absolutely fantastic. Thank you to Marko & everyone at Tredethy. Hope to see you all again next year.
Review 100:Nothing springs to mind.
Review 101:The whole experience was restful and positive. The dinner was perfect and delicious. I will certainly return for another stay.
Review 102:We were very disappointed with the room we were in, it was very small and very dated decoration. We thought it was very over priced.
Review 103:We loved the Hotel itself. The grounds of the outside were stunning. The downstairs was very impressive, all very nice rooms.
Review 104:Not a thing
Review 105:Everything, wonderful host marco enjoyed dinner. Bedroom in the attic was large and well equipped everything you could want. Wonderful setting
Review 106:Dont change anything, just perfect as is.
Review 107:Marco was a great host, happy for me to take my two large dogs to the room. Hall super welcoming on arrival,, this place is special. Feels like home, pasta in the bistro out of this world. Beds super comfortable, views out of the bedroom just stunning.
Review 108:Nothing really just observations little bit dark walking from car park to front door late at night but we had a light so ok, maybe get some form of bell at reception we waited quite a while before anyone came to check us in
Review 109:Beautiful house, very friendly couple, great attention to detail, quiet location yet still close enough to get everywhere, would definitely stay again
Review 110:We have no complaints really. The one annoying thing was one night there was a wind and our window rattled and was very noisy. We had a room at the back (our choice) if we returned we would try for a larger front room. We also would have liked a greater selection of evening meals and bar meals. My husband does not like Pasta etc so just one English dish would have been nice. Trivial things really but would have made for a perfect break.
Review 111:Tredethy House was so comfortable and relaxing. Marco was very attentive and very helpful but not intrusive. Tredethy House is ideally situated for visiting the North Coastal areas. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Breakfasts are delicious and a good choice and selection. We had one evening meal when we arrived, Salmon which was delicious and well served. A lovely weeks holiday.
Review 112:We had asked for a room with a shower as opposed to a bath. We got a very small room (and quite dark) with a bath. I asked if we could change and the owner was very accommodating and changed our room for a much lighter one with a shower room. So initial disappointment was resolved. The hotel is about 15 miles from Padstow and 12 miles from Rock. A bit of drive if you want to eat in one of the main towns but does make it a peaceful retreat.
Review 113:Delightful hotel! A bit out in the sticks but very pretty, very peaceful and beautifully presented by the Italian owners. The place is immaculate and is tastefully decorated and presented. Breakfast is good (Continental although you can order cooked at a supplement) nice bread, fruit, cereals, cheese & ham. Standard bedroom quite small but is comfortable with a good shower room.
Review 114:Absolutely nothing!
Review 115:Just returned from a stay at Tredithy Manor with friends, and we absolutely loved it! I stayed in one of the lovely luxury rooms which was huge and had an amazing view. The breakfast was great and the staff were warm and welcoming. Marco the owner was attentive and entertaining - nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return for another visit.
Review 116:The shower was poor and the floorboards were very creaky just hope the guests below us were not disturbed too much.
Review 117:The location was excellent if you want peace and quite. We booked the standard luxury room which was ok but we expected a little more luxury than a dressing gown and shampoo however the attic room was spacious with magnificent views which made up for the lack of luxury. The hosts are lovely people which we found are friendly making you a welcome guest. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of it. We would come back again but would book a double standard.
Review 118:Marco the owner made our stay unforgettable! He is a really friendly character and spent time chatting and drinking with us in the bar in the evenings. The view from room 11 was lovely despite being advertised as not having a view so I reccomend that room especially. The evening food was also delicious.
Review 119:Wi fi dropping out..but its a place to rest..
Review 120:Found this unique guest hotel within striking distance of Rock and Padstow. The garden facing room was excellent. Loved the shabby chic decor and nice gardens. I recommend the bar snacks. .in particular the cheese board with grapes, blueberries and pear. Then the Italian smoked salamis and hams. . both excellant washed down with some organic Prosecco. The owner, Marco, was an amiable host. Although we found out too late, you can get on the Bodmin part of the Camel trail just down the road at the pottery.
Review 121:No lighting in the car park, had to use a mobile phone to see our way to the house after parking. Curtains and carpet need renewing, look tired and faded with stains, also paintwork I our room was marked. Surrounding gardens look shabby, outdoor chess set was just surrounded by weeds so would not be useable. Just looks a bit tired and unkempt on arrival which does not reflect the service so is a shame. First impressions are so important!
Review 122:The attic room we had was large ,lovely Orla Kiely toiletries. Very clean. Organic, healthly breakfast was super. Lovely light welcoming breakfast room. Loved the background music playing whilst we ate.
Review 123:water wasn't hot enough in the sink and had to boil a kettle, however, did get a hot bath.
Review 124:location, staff very pleasant and helpful. Nice continental breakfast. Lovely old house
Review 125:spring in my bed was a bit variable and did not do my back any favours but I do have back trouble, and it wasn't helped by the bed
Review 126:quiet situated in the countryside with good views Nice big bedrooms in a lovely old house and a big bath ensuite excellent breakfast Staff friendly and helpful Emphasis on healthy organic foods
Review 127:Musty smell on arrival in room and feel that the interior of the place might have seen better days Greeting on arrival not particularly welcoming Continental breakfast adequate but slightly frugal- trattoria restaurant not open midweek
Review 128:helpful advice on local area lovely setting good level of comfort nice en-suite bathroom
Review 129:shower poor warm/cold, breakfast rubbish, cooked breakfast even worse, never a 4 star, bar badly stocked more like an office overall far too overpriced
Review 130:large spacious room
Review 131:Restrictive hours for dinner (told to be quick to order, although no later than 7:30 pm) Small bed
Review 132:Excellent location, beautiful building and surroundings Good dinner meal
Review 133:The climb to the top floor up a steep narrow staircase with very heavy luggage.
Review 134:The breakfast. The ease of coming and going without being "spied" on. The comfort of the bed.
Review 135:Need's a little attention to detail (especially for the money). Examples: Shower fixings not great - they need tightening. Fixings around our bath need mending. Need to improve Wi-Fi capability. Menu options very limited with Italian base only. Cooked breakfast is extra.
Review 136:Quiet location and makes a great base to explore Cornwall. Rooms are all lovely with nice views. Staff all pleasant.
Review 137:It is sad but understandable that the restaurant opens only at weekends. The outdoor chess set was unusable - temporarily one hopes. Gentle background music in the sitting room was sometimes in conflict with music elsewhere in the building.
Review 138:The quality of the pasta, the comfort of the breakfast room, the warmth and informality of the welcome, the simplicity and prices of the wine list (try the Hoopoe Nero D'Avola), the views from the frontage, the beautiful country setting (visit Blisland church - open every day).
The Fine Print
Please note that the Trattoria restaurant is open from May to September on weekends only. Guests are advised to book in advance.
