Reviews for The Auld Kirk
Review 1:The whole experience of our stay here was warm friendly ,the room was spacious with all the facillites you might need ,breakfast was excellent 10 out of 10 ,would definatly stay here again.
Review 2:Pity that evening meals aren't provided any more. The wifi was poor.
Review 3:Lovely staff, a very comfortable lounge and a wonderful breakfast room. Spacious bedroom with a really comfortable bed and a bathroom to die for!
Review 4:A little bit of road noise but "traffic" is almost non existent.
Review 5:I've fallen asleep in many a kirk but none as comfortable!!! All is good and the glitzy bathroom is fantastic!!! No fighting for the wash basin as there were one each!!! Breakfast was freshly made to order!!!
Review 6:The only criticism we had was that wifi couldn't be picked up in our room. This was mildly inconvenient at times as our mobile 3G signal was patchy. The signal was fine elsewhere in the building.
Review 7:The building is a very well done conversion of an old church. It is perfectly situated to explore Loch Ness and the north east coast. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 8:This converted Kirk is not out of homes and gardens Utilitarian. But comfortable. Ballater is dead at night. Hard for tourists to find a dinner after 8pm. Hotel does not do dinner. Bar has no one in it but you can have a lonely drink of your quick. Would not recommend unless you want sleepy hollow. If you want a good breakfast and a good sleep it's for you.
Review 9:As there aren't facilities for an evening meal, we had to look elsewhere in town which was very limiting and disappointing food.
Review 10:The lovely breakfast in a delightful room
Review 11:no complaints at all
Review 12:Fabulous building and converted perfectly into a very comfortable b and b. Liked the modern decor in bedroom and bathroom, and staff so friendly and helpful that I would definitely recommend a stay here. The choice for breakfast was also much more than expected.
Review 13:Nothing to report. This is a perfect place to stay.
Review 14:The management and staff were, in short, amazing. They went to great lengths to make our stay memorable. Enough to make us want to return. Which we will.
Review 15:The bedroom walls were thin and so could hear the occupant next door speaking on his phone for what seemed an inordinate amount of time as we were trying to sleep.....
Review 16:The internal décor was lovely and hosts were very friendly. There were superb views from the bedroom window and was able to put our motorbike in view of our room which was great. Breakfast was lovely, freshly prepared and plentiful.
Review 17:Stayed in the family room with my twins. The room was vey nice Emily loved her wee bed. The owners are lovely people I hope they do well. Fantastic breakfast. Def will be back.
Review 18:Bed - mattress was too hard for my liking, duvet heavy and hard - sorry On the first morning, breakfast room was cold - would have been nice to have fire in the fire place and that would have been in my books THE treat!!
Review 19:Interior - interesting, decoration well chosen, keeping features and the nature of the grand building Staff - very friendly and helpful Breakfast - excellent, tasty, lasted for a long before feeling hungry. Coffee was good! Location - perfect for day trips seeing Highlands Loved the key system!
Review 20:e of the most unusual places me and my wife have stayed in. This is a fantastic conversion using some of the old church with tastefully decorated rooms.great breakfast very friendly staff.all good.
Review 21:I'm sorry we couldn't stay longer. I can't think of anything I didn't like about staying at The Auld Kirk.
Review 22:We were greeted warmly, like visiting old friends. Breakfast was delicious with many many choices. The Auld Kirk is a 5minute walk into town for restaurants/things to see and do and on the edge of countryside offering longer treks.
Review 23:Everything about this place is top notch. It's beautiful and a credit to those to made the conversion. The welcome was warm and we couldn't have asked for more.
Review 24:Nothing to dislike.
Review 25:A fantastic building in a lovely part of the world, so close to the wide open expanse of the upper Glen of the Dee. Very friendly people. Breakfast is fantastic - probably the best omelet I've ever had.
Review 26:Loved the atmosphere and accommodations. Beautiful room and dinning area. Also wonderful bar area with a fireplace located where the pews use to be. Breakfast was wonderful with amazing staff service.
Review 27:Sound insulation between our room and next needs fixing
Review 28:Fabulous friendly and helpful staff Best breakfast you could wish for Spotless and well maintained room
Review 29:no atmosphere, I chose because it stated "awarding winning chef" but was told they don't cook food, also bar closed so no atmosphere, you basically go in and go to bed
Review 30:staff at breakfast friendly and breakfast very good
Review 31:No complaints
Review 32:The place was nice n clean room spotless and breakfast was cooked fresh and plenty of choice on Buffet. Staff were so nice and made you feel welcome definitely return.
Review 33:Only an hour from Aberdeen and with all the benefits of trees, hills, countryside - a very relaxed setting. Nearby is an expensive but excellent Indian restaurant.
Review 34:Everything ,couldn't fault anything .
Review 35:Friendly staff. Nice breakfast.

Review 37:Lack of noise. Attentive, but not overly attentive, staff. Comfortable bed.
Review 38:staff was very good
Review 39:Poor WiFi.
Review 40:Good room.
Review 41:A friendly and attentive service without being intrusive. Will certainly stay there in our future trips.
Review 42:unable to access WiFi (but very old building with thick walls- suggest get some boosters?)
Review 43:best breakfast of whole trip!

Review 54:The location in Ballater was perfect as a home base and the breakfast at the Auld Kirk is awesome.
Review 55:Wifi did not reach our room.
Review 56:Wonderful breakfast. Cooked to order. Setting. The town was charming.
Review 57:WiFi did not work anywhere we tried it.
Review 58:The breakfast was the best that we have had while in Scotland.
Review 59:There was nothing in Ballater, the town is just dead.
Review 60:The breakfast was just excellent. Everything was well chosen - the bacon, the cheese, etc.
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:Breakfast!
Review 63:Very out of the ordinary B&B. Rooms were decorated with a lot of attention to detail. Chef created best omlette I ever had.
Review 64:Can't think of anything we didn't like
Review 65:By far the best place we stayed in our 2 week trip
Review 66:Beautiful building - excellent room - really friendly welcome
Review 67:would have like a bath tub in one of the rooms
Review 68:the welcome and the staff.
Review 69:The building is very old with the thick wall, so can only access wi-fi in the lounge.

Review 83:Nice hotel in a nice little village. Very calm. Good beds. Very clean. The brekfast was delitfull.
Review 84:WiFi wouldn't work
Review 85:An excellent hotel with outstanding service...Breakfast was amazing.
Review 86:A bit expensive
Review 87:Location
Review 88:The premises, the location, the style, the staff, the decor and the food.
Review 89:Lovely set up with friendly welcome and excellent breakfast.
Review 90:We found coming in through the door to the reception area very gloomy and first impression was it didn't feel particularly welcoming. The upstairs landing was very dark and you could hardly see all the brochures left out for the guests and again the lighting needed to change.
Review 91:The room and bathroom were fitted out with quality furniture and there was attention to detail Having a guest lounge was a bonus. The breakfast was of a high standard. The conversion from a church to a B&B was fascinating and a display board with photos/plans etc would be very interesting to the guests. The owner was welcoming.
Review 92:Slightly tired external appearance.
Review 93:Difficult to find fault with this place. The temptation in a refurbishment of a church can be awful 'Gothic' but this has been resisted, and simply echoes the fact it was a church. Rooms are comfortable with good facilities - excellent shower. The breakfast was as good as a 3* or 4* hotel, in use of fresh ingredients, choice, presentation and quality of cooking. The real test of any cooked breakfast is a poached egg, and this was near perfect. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Review 94:Very comfortable hotel. People were real nice and had a great Scottish breakfast. This was a good place to see the Highlands and we intend to go back.
Review 95:Staff was fantastic - every request we had was met with a positive yes and accomplished with a smile. Breakfast was great - best full Scottish I've ever had. Well presented and cooked and served hot! I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
Review 96:No facility for evening meal
Review 97:The standard of the bedroom, the tasteful decor in the breakfast room, the breadth of choice and high quality of the breakfast.
Review 98:They did not have a restaurant or a manned bar and so we had to wait / call for drinks.
Review 99:It was lovely staying at an old church. The owners were so nice and accommodating. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Review 100:Nothing really.... I'd be petty if I said that the doors to the bedrooms let the decor down!
Review 101:The auld Kirk is a delightful le church that's been turned into a small hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the breakfast is delicious.... Try the haggis .....
Review 102:We booked The Auld Kirk because it had according to its website an excellent restaurant, which apparently closed 1 year ago ! The bar facilities were only available between 4 and 7pm and there was no heating in the bar lounge, it was freezing.
Review 103:Quirky layout.
Review 104:* nothing!
Review 105:* Excellent (Scottish) breakfast menu * Modern & clean bathroom * Friendly & helpful staff * Unique building for a hotel; making this a very special experience!!
Review 106:I just stayed the one night but was given a warm welcome and good instructions from mein host. I had to leave before the regular breakfast time but still got a hot breakfast
Review 107:They gave up the restaurant.
Review 108:If this well known family:God, Jezus and the Holy Spirit would need a place in the inn, they would certainly book rooms here! Excellent!
Review 109:the scenery is beautiful and the locals are the friendliest and most helpful people i have ever met.a really unique experience and will definitely be back.
Review 110:One very small quibble - we could not find a shaver point for my husband's electric razor.
Review 111:The staff - Lisa when we arrived and Peter the next morning - were very helpful and friendly. The room was lovely, very comfortable and plenty of space. Lovely bathroom. The whole building was gorgeous - a well-preserved old kirk, sympathetically restored. Breakfast was lovely with a huge choice of hot and cold food, and fruit. Ballater is a pretty small town surrounded by breathtaking scenery.
Review 112:The entrance could do with a bit of paint as it gives the wrong impression of what the interior is like. First impressions are important and this could be off-putting.
Review 113:Interesting conversion of a kirk. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and nicely decorated bedrooms, with a good breakfast. Door handle stuck on my room but this was attended to immediately.
Review 114:Wonderful place to stay, and in a lovely small town surrounded by beautiful countryside. A very short walk into town where we found restaurants & pubs to suit all tastes. Great breakfast & the home-made honey & walnut muffins were delicious.
Review 115:No restaurant although at the time of booking this was on the website.Badly looked after messy on the outsite
Review 116:Good for daytrips and hiking nice breakfastroom
