Reviews for Trehellas Country House Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:Room a little on the small side and was cold at times. Interior rather dated and in need of little updating and redecorating..

Review 2:the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food superb. Breakfast a great start for the day. Dinner good choice and desserts to die for. Main house lovely.

Review 3:Room only had a shower, bath would have been nicer.

Review 4:Food was excellent and good value for money. Room was very comfortable. Good location for visiting surrounding area

Review 5:Although not a bad experience, it would have been nice to have the full breakfast option. This was not available till 8am. Half the guests were on business trips and earlier breakfast would have been better.

Review 6:Easy to get to business appointments, staff friendly and helpful.

Review 7:The food was fantastic. Breakfast in the conservatory was a joy and the 3 dinners we had there were a little expensive but great quality. Location was ideal for exploring the West Country. Roomvery comfortable in the cottage.

Review 8:My bed was a bit soft for my liking, but that is of course personal choice.

Review 9:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 10:Power cut on first night of our stay. Luckily was going out with family locally so did not disturb us too much.

Review 11:Manager very knowledgeable about local area and local history. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfasts.

Review 12:Everything. From the welcome to our departure our stay was superb. It was exactly as described online. No surprises - just great value, excellent accommodation and good food. Added bonus for ourselves was the fact there were no children.

Review 13:Nothing

Review 14:Everything was just good, staff were most helpful and considerate to our needs and requirements. The Court Room Suite was large and plentyful with a King size bed to match, wonderful.

Review 15:It is important to replace the little containers of milk in the room each day. It would also be nice if shampoo and shower gel was replaced daily, if used. I feel that the Hotel could have been a little cosier and warmer. What would help is 1)closing all curtains at night in the public areas and 2)leaving the central heating on longer. It went off about 9.30 pm. Are hot water bottles supplied? I did not check the chest of drawers, so I can't be certain.

Review 16:The staff were friendly and caring. Alastair, the Propriator was very helpful regarding our storage of luggage, although there was not a separate luggage room. It might be a great advantage to have this facility. He also found another place for us to stay nearby when we needed to stay on another night and he did not have a spare room. Thank you for your help.

Review 17:We couldn't stay for longer.

Review 18:Lovely remote location, yet with very easy access to Bodmin a couple of miles away. Restaurant looked clean, smart, and with a comprehensive menu, although we ate locally at the Borough Arms. Breakfast was also very good, in range of dishes (look at their web site) and speed of service. staff very pleasant and helpful. Plenty of car parking space. This is a beautifully furnished wonderful historic house, with genuine 'duck-your-head' doorways. Well worht a visit.

Review 19:The mattress on the bed needed replacing. It was far too soft and caused my husbans back pain the next day

Review 20:The restaunt and excellent food. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 21:Wifi was only reliable in the lounge area, our room seemed to be at the end of the connection chain and was unreliable.

Review 22:Friendly staff, good location. Ecpxcellent breakfast.

Review 23:Very offhand staff. Receptionist brought us to our room left key on bed and disappeared. Asked for wine list and got it with the main course. The wine we ordered was not available. No apology just given the wine list to re-order. No bar but you could order a drink from the receptionist but it felt like an imposition. etc.

Review 24:Good Cuisine both dinner and breakfast

Review 25:Towels not changed, when room was made up. When it was clear that towels were very damp from use. Undercooked chips. Still not properly cooked when new portion offered. Lack of choice of fruit juices at breakfast. The two supplied tasted nothing like orange juice. So avoided those after first breakfast.

Review 26:Being offered an upgraded room as the hotel were unable to offer the prebooked/selected room. Efficiency of all the staff in restaurant. Breakfast menu, apart from the fruit juices.

Review 27:The ambiance and at the same time privacy were first class and the menu just out of this world. Excellent staff and never in your face a really wonderful place to stop over in

Review 28:On 2 of the mornings at breakfast the young waitress was surley and lacked communication skills. The shower in the ensuite was very poor with very low water flow - replacement needed. The carpet had not been hoovered on at least 3 days.

Review 29:The buildings were interesting. Dinner was good as were breakfasts.

Review 30:Made it clear on the booking we had a dog but nearly lost our room because of the small print on booking.com. Fortunately the manager was able to swap our room.

Review 31:Lovely old building and large gardens. Breakfast in the sunny conservatory.

Review 32:Cannot comment as got to the room at 01.45 and left at 08.30

Review 33:Fabulous breakfast ! Lovely room was only there for 7 hours unfortunately ! Friendly place.

Review 34:I struggle to get a mobile phone signal here.

Review 35:It's a lovely, characterful place with ample parking. I's also in a lovely quiet rural location. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast and the meals in the restaurant are superb.

Review 36:Evening meal was a bit pricey for the standard of food. Could do with a better hairdryer in room. Swimming pool had a closed sign on the gate & yet other customers were using it - no mention of this was made at check in

Review 37:Lovely old building with plenty of character. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choices set in a sunny conservatory. Staff were pleasant

Review 38:Nothing to be honest but two small things we felt could be better was a few more milks in the room, but I guess we could have asked for more, plus maybe a mattress could do with being turned as we both felt like we could have rolled off the bed due to the dome effect in it! Thought the bed as very comfy otherwise!?

Review 39:Last minute decision which we are now glad we did to celebrated out 5th wedding anniversary ! We stayed in the padstow room which was lovely big room and bright air feel! My wife made use of the out door pool which she said was "refreshing" which to me means cold! We had a lovely evening meal which was very good and both enjoyed the choice at breakfast as in the conservatory ! Great location near Bodmin and typical Devon countryside!

Review 40:Charming old building modernised with sympathy. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good food sourced locally. Room well maintained and bed, most importantly, very comfortable.

Review 41:Staff fun, friendly and very attentive. Food that was seriously delicious arrived in minutes. We went down to breakfast earlier than we should, which was not a problem for them at all. Everyone very obliging. I had the "special" evening meal, which was pan fried salmon on asparagus with hollandaise, SO good, followed by strawbs and clotted cream!

Review 42:It was a little dark in my room even with all lights on and a slightly fusty smell. My shower could have been more powerful.

Review 43:Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed.

Review 44:Not a bad experience, but one more luggage rack in the room would have been helpful.

Review 45:The food in the on-site restaurant was outstanding, and we especially enjoyed the comfortable lounge area for afternoon cappuccinos.

Review 46:We unfortunately had to ask for toiletry replacements as they were not automatically provided. Also only one (plastic) drinking glass provided for duration of our stay.

Review 47:Food and accommodation very good and we were upgraded to the Courtroom Suite which was huge! Would definitely return.

Review 48:It is faultless. Worth a 300 mile drive from Nottingham.

Review 49:Not a bog standard b and b its top class. The free upgrade, breakfast in a huge conservatory looking onto a well stocked mature garden.

Review 50:Slightly pokey upstairs. Bed not very comfy. No WIFI.

Review 51:Very welcoming staff, hotel looks lovely, breakfast was delicious and the lady serving our breakfast was really nice!

Review 52:The courtroom suite is exceptional with one of the most comfortable beds you will ever come across. The breakfast was first class with service of the highest order.

Review 53:All good

Review 54:The location of hotel was lovely and scenic. The hotel itself was very comfortable, staff were very friendly. Room was comfortable, and the evening meal was superb.

Review 55:I think having 8am as the earliest time for breakfast is a shame. I had to leave at 7.30.

Review 56:The room was comfy and clean. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 57:Very friendly staff, lovely place, delicious evening meal, reasonably priced, we booked ahead for that which is advisable as the restaurant was busy. Breakfast was excellent. Would definately stay again & recommend to friends

Review 58:Wasn't too keen on the restaurant meal, very slow, & my husband had a very tough steak but the owner dealt with it very well and refunded the cost

Review 59:Loved the location, very quiet, beautiful garden yet near to lots of places Breakfast served in a lovely conservatory

Review 60:Thought the bathroom could do with an update but was perfectly adequate.

Review 61:Super full English breakfast, wonderful setting lovely dog walk through woods.Comfortable room in cottage and dog friendly. Great value for money!

Review 62:No glasses in the room or the bathroom - only discovered in the middle of the night! Shower was poor and wifi network kept dropping out.

Review 63:Excellent comfortable bed, good evening meal, with prompt service..

Review 64:WiFi not good in all areas, shower room a bit tired, couldn't get a meal when I arrived after 8.30

Review 65:Cosy, comfy, quaint, superb breakfast, lovely staff

Review 66:The owners were professional, warm and understanding of the needs of a solo female traveller. The food was very reasonably priced and the quality unexpectedly high.

Review 67:The bathroom was very cold all the time, ie no heating. The room was cold when we arrived. No thought of putting the heating on before we got there, as they knew the room was booked. Tea/coffee making facilities poor. 1 packet of biscuits for 2 people. Limited to only making one drink as the milk was limited to 2 small cartons each. No milk left on the second day. The room we stayed in was only worth the discounted price we paid of £55 a night. I certainly would not pay the normal price of £90 a night. People staying above us extremely noisy up at 5.30am in and out of the main door which was banged shut each time they came in and out which was frequent until 7.30am. No fault of the owner but a poster or a notice should be put on the wall to advise inconsiderate people that they are not the only people staying there. The room was very standard, no wow factor. NO BAR!!!!!!!! Only A La Carte Menu in the restaurant. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Review 68:Ideal location to do the whole of the camel trail. Breakfast was lovely.

Review 69:Beautiful place. Friendly, helpful people. Excellent food. Room was light, airy and clean. Warm and welcoming. Highly recommended. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 70:Breakfast started quite late. Would have preferred it to start an hour earlier, even if it was a reduced breakfast menu.

Review 71:Owner was very helpful, putting right any minor faults with room. Homemade marmalade is delicious.

Review 72:A little cold in the restaurant and also in the conservatory at breakfast

Review 73:The bed was lovely, and the facilities overall very good for this type of hotel. The restaurant was fab, and the service excellent.

Review 74:The fact that you have to pay for wifi (£3.50 per 30 minute session) was a problem for me as it impacted on my ability to work from the hotel. Another slight problem was breakfast timings, breakfast did not start until 08:00hrs and as I had to leave at 07:30hrs meant no cooked breakfast, however to be fair, I was given the option of having a tray of cerials that I could take back to me room.

Review 75:The staff are very friendly and helpfull, food in the restaurant was of a very good quality and well cooked and presented. The restaurant has a relaxed feel to it and I felt at home there. Although the Hotel does not have a Bar in the traditional sense, it is possible to have a drink in the warm, comfortable and relaxing lounges. Highly recommended, will stay again.

Review 76:Our room, away from the main house and on the ground floor seemed to have no insulation from the floor above. We were subjected to all bathroom noises and some conversation.

Review 77:The restaurant was good

Review 78:We found the procedure for evening meals a little unusual to us. Having booked for a certain time, we were greeted cheerfully and coats taken and then ushered into the lounge. As there was no bar we were brought our drinks and left for a period which we assumed was the time allowed for the chef to cook our meals. We were then ushered in to the dining room and our meal was served promptly thereafter.

Review 79:We loved the buildings and its rural setting. We were a little concerned that our room in the outbuildings was close to a road but the host assured us the windows were triple glazed and the night time traffic was non existent. This proved to be correct. The choice and quality of food for breakfast and dinner was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful...even after locking ourselves out twice. They provided umbrellas at all points...a thoughtful touch. They even provided a sheet with suggested day trips.

Review 80:The shower had to be hand held. A material curtain, not good. The bed was uncomfortable.

Review 81:The location for us. The food was excellent. The staff very pleasant.

Review 82:being downstairs when the people didn't get in until 3 in the morning, as the building is older so the floorboards were a bit creaky!! however it would not stop me from staying again! not the owners fault!

Review 83:comfortable rooms, lovely breakfast, have stayed here before and will ( hopefully stay again) all the staff are helpful and friendly, if you want dinner book early as it is very good and gets very quickly booked up!

Review 84:Most drinks available on request BUT no bar.

Review 85:The room was nice and cosy; bathroom - standard; bed superb; furniture tasteful. All exceptionally clean. The food was top class & a fine menu. We'll definitely go again. Location: handy for many interesting places.

Review 86:The only fault we could find was the kettle in our room took ages to boil. But that's being picky.

Review 87:Excellent value for money, food first class, bed was very comfortable, and warm. Will stay again.

Review 88:Great welcome. Room very pleasant, large comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, large soft towels. We ate dinner in the restaurant and were very impressed.

Review 89:A group of us travelled down as we were performing at the Padstow Christmas Festival. We checked in and was shown to our rooms- the staff were very helpful and friendly! Breakfast was lovely- freshly cooked and the right sized portion

Review 90:The shower was broken, it wouldn't stay at any temperature, oscillating between freezing and scalding hot. When I mentioned it, the reception staff told me that it was an ongoing problem in the whole annexe block. I would advise bookers to stipulate a room in the main house for this reason.

Review 91:The service, the room and the restaurant (dinner and then breakfast) were all superb.

Review 92:Very cold in the conservatory where breakfast was served. Heater was not working but no plug in heaters brought in to ease the situation. This was the situation for all 3 mornings. I did suggest they should serve porridge to warm us up!

Review 93:On arrival we were given a room with a shower and when I requested a room with bath we were told that one would be available the next day. They were true to their word and even moved our luggage to the new room while we were out for the day. Excellent breakfast.

Review 94:We had evening meal on the first night. Unfortunately one was over cooked, the rest of the meal was ok.

Review 95:Accommodation and breakfasts were excellent during our five night stay.

Review 96:Curtain in shower, glass door would be better. Plastic cups, that weren't replaced second day. Restuarant food description inaccurate . Apple and rhubarb crumble only apple, and tasted like apple purée from a jar, while the crumble tasted of dry crushed biscuits. The roasted vegetables weren't roasted either, but presentation good. Younger staff polite but not overly friendly or helpful.

Review 97:Good location to lots of sites. Good choice of food for breakfast. Value for money with the accomadation only.

Review 98:There was nothing we didn't like - it was a fantastic stay.

Review 99:The experience is like staying with your favourite aunty and uncle in their country cottage - it really felt like a relaxing family home. Fab service from check in to check out, nothing was too much trouble for the unfailingly cheerful staff. This was our second stay and we deliberately chose to stay here for the warmth of the welcome, the tasty food, the relaxing sleep, the beautifully styled rooms and the fab location. We will definitely stay again!

Review 100:Being in the barn and having to walk to main building when the weather was bad leaves on the slate made very slippery and having to pay the same rate as main building.

Review 101:Nothing will not book again

Review 102:I suffer a little with arthritis in my knees, if I had thought about it I should have asked for a groundfloor room. But that was my own fault. So no fault of the hotel whatsoever.

Review 103:The food and hospitality was very good, I would recommend this to friends and family.

Review 104:Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. Lovely old house and easy to find. Owner gave us a short summary of the property history. Other guests also very friendly and personable.

Review 105:Friendly owner and staff. Good WiFi. Nice restaurant with excellent food. Good breakfast in large heated conservatory. Comfortable bed in a nice room and wel appointed ensuite. Have stayed many times before and will continue to do so when working in the area.

Review 106:I arrived late in the evening and departed after breakfast so was unable to spend time exploring the surrounding area. I was welcomed on arrival and shown to my room, a large, comfortable double room with a large bathroom. The breakfast was very good with prompt and efficient service and checkout was similarly smooth and efficient.

Review 107:There was nothing not to like.

Review 108:Bedroom good size, clean and comfortable. The evening meal and service was excellent in every way. Same as for breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Review 109:The bed was a bit soft for me but that's just personal choice and not necessarily a problem for others.

Review 110:Friendly and accommodating people, easy and relaxing place. Nice breakfasts, good food in the evenings. No bar but cosy lounges to enjoy a drink, very pleasant.

Review 111:Can't think of anything.

Review 112:We were given the Court Room which was huge and fabulous and had a very large en-suite. Our host was very welcoming. The Restaurant evening meal was great as was the breakfast. Looking forward to going again next summer.

Review 113:Quiet situation outside town Comfortable, well appointed room Excellent breakfast Reasonable price Proximity to Camel Trail, steam railway and Bodmin Moor Individuality Friendly staff

Review 114:Room requires redecorating. The carpark lighting outside our room (Padstow) made the room far too light during the night.

Review 115:Loved the food and relaxed atmosphere, (would like to see a few more things on the excellent menu).

Review 116:Only that with the windows open it was louder than I expected due to the nearby road.

Review 117:The twin room was beautiful, fresh-smelling, and had character. The staff were very helpful, excellent service.

Review 118:My room which was situated in the old coach house, outside walls were not insulated and on a sunny September day the room felt damp by the evening. There were signs of mould on walls and window cills and slight furring on the wooden beam. By morning my clothes felt damp. Pillows were filled with cheap foam and felt horrendous

Review 119:The hotel itself, gardens were pleasant. The food was very good, service was very good.

Review 120:Only the journey to get there! Once there we could truly relax.

Review 121:Everything, the decoration of all rooms public and bedroom is first class. The staff are most pleasant and helpful. The dining is truly comfortable with excellent menu, good choice of wines and reasonably priced. Breakfasts are a pleasure in the Conservatory.

Review 122:Everything was as it should be,no negative aspects.

Review 123:All of the staff were very professional and extremely helpful.A very varied menu and cooked to perfection. A wonderful stay.

Review 124:Facilities not well documented, didn't know that there was a pool until we were leaving, would have stayed longer, if available, if so!

Review 125:Excellent food, good value for money, would stay there anytime

Review 126:The poor telephone signal, early evening traffic noise

Review 127:The friendly staff and the quality of the food. Although the room was small it was adequate for my needs

Review 128:There was no bar to relax in, which when out all day would have been nice late in the evening to unwind and end the day.

Review 129:The food was really nice, as were the staff.

Review 130:The food is a little pricey, if you are on business and trying to keep expenditure down, but very good value.

Review 131:Staff were very good, food also was very good My crab starter was a little disappointing but main course of pasta with Chicken, chorizo and tomatoes very good. Summer pudding with clotted cream wonderful!

Review 132:Room very small and stuffy extremely hot on main road so too noisy to have windows open. Facilities quite dated. Hair in breakfast when we finally got it. Bit disappointing. Main house may be better.

Review 133:Good location for travelling to other areas. Beautiful grounds and lovely historic building.

Review 134:Proprietors not particularly welcoming unlike many other places in Cornwall. Accommodation soulless and bedroom contained a massive wardrobe which was not needed but took up a lot of space

Review 135:Clean accommodation Breakfast very good Staff friendly and courteous
