Reviews for Wild Pheasant Hotel & Spa

Review 1:The room we had was freezing. We thought after a day out it would have been on when we checked in late afternoon. We rested, then showered to go out for the evening. The room was still cold and we decided we'd mention it to reception on our way out for the evening. Nobody was on reception, so we decided to leave it as it would more than likely be on when we came back in. We arrived back to a freezing room. The following morning the cleaning lady walked in without knocking as she thought the room was empty - I asked if this was because the radiator was broken and she said yes. We also heard the staff talking at reception, saying we should have been in room 15 and not room 11 because of the radiators. When we handed the keys in, we said we weren't very happy and the young receptionist apologised. As soon as we got home we emailed the hotel on 24th December but never heard back from the hotel. Not impress all

Review 2:The location.

Review 3:We stayed here two and a half years ago for the first time, we enjoyed our stay, food etc was great, but noted then in our report we likened it to fur coat and no knickers. The landing hall walls are chipped, paper peeling off and very grubby looking carpets. The rooms are of a good size, beds clean as was the bathroom but again let down by peeling wall paper and generally shabby overall look. Even the curtains looked clean but the tie backs and pelmets were not. Come on management we really like this hotel but you really need to get your act together with these 'fur coat and no knickers' rooms for your reputation and your staff!

Review 4:Staff at this hotel are absolutely lovely, courteous, polite and professional, especially on reception. The hotel from the outside and indeed in the foyer and on the landing look perfect. Meals were delicious and restaurant staff very attentive, couldn't fault them. It sort of all goes pear shaped when you go through the landing doors to the rooms...

Review 5:The hotel was generally clean and tidy but there was some black mould on the tiles above the bath. Also beds were quite hard and I couldn't close the window so was kept awake by the rain all night. One of the two en-suite twin rooms we booked didn't have a shower which is unusual these days. Breakfast was not great, poached egg was served cold.

Review 6:Great location.

Review 7:Breakfast. Cost of room service Noisy room ( air conditioning)

Review 8:Location, facilities were excellent. Evening meals were good. Staff were accommodating

Review 9:The only downside was poor mobile phone signal. More likely to the location rather than the Hotel! :-)

Review 10:Having a small dog with me, I wasn't expecting too much. But the room was big and well catered ..tea/coffee, etc. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Only ate in the restaurant once but the breakfast was scrummy!! Will definitely be coming back.

Review 11:The place needs a little bit of money spending on it. Shower needed regrouted and wall paper was coming off the wall. The spa lockers and bins needed cleaning and emptying and were not cleaned over night. This didn't put us off though

Review 12:Very friendly, great location, nice setup, homely feel, great spa and good food. Excellent value for money

Review 13:There was no heating in our room each morning and being winter it was very cold.We told staff and they said there was a problem with the central heating.

Review 14:Hotel was in a nice location and from the outside was very attractive, The room was spacious and clean. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Self serve breakfast was excellent.

Review 15:Moved rooms because I heard the Music really clearly from the downstairs bar. Also the water pressure in the shower was poor. New room TV was rubbish. The radiators are noisy and the wifi is poor strength in the rooms. I would say it's a good hotel but needs a major refurbishment

Review 16:The hotel looks stunning

Review 17:The fat that restaurant was not open due of lack of customers. Furniture in Bath could have done with replacing has looked old and tired

Review 18:Visually the outside setting was very pleasant. Although a few paving flags could have done with some attention as wife almost tripped

Review 19:Really disappointed!! The bed was exceptionally old and lumpy, due to which we missed breakfast due to exhaustion of a sleepless night tossing and turning. Bed frame tatty and ripped underneath. Room was old and dark and tiny. The spa water had dirty scum floating all over it. Stayed mid week when the hotel was quite and staff were difficult to locate. Had lunch in the bar and the food which was ordered was presented incomplete and missing things listed on the menu. This place has such potential but just seems like they don't care about standards or cleanliness.

Review 20:Good location to Llangollen town centre

Review 21:Only thing was that my sink in the bathroom was badly cracked

Review 22:Was in a beautiful setting and hotel was fantastic, had an amazing stay hope to stay again

Review 23:Receptionist unfriendly, uncommunicative and uninformative. Breakfast, meagre portions on cooked breakfast. 1 x Sausage which was tough and tasted weird. 1 x Bacon hard. Bed uncomfortable dipped in middle. Room cold in the morning, heating on timer. We were put in a room next to a private staff room who turned up at 6am and walls thin so we could hear them talking. Also near fire door which was slammed.

Review 24:Good location and parking.

Review 25:The bed was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, it was like sleeping on a bag of springs! And in the bed room there was horrible noise coming from where the air conditioning unit was , I think it was to do with the heating pipes , the restaurant food was ok but the survice from the male waiter was rubbish he was very rude and arrogant! The waitress on the other hand was vey nice and helpful

Review 26:Location, restaurant food was ok .

Review 27:Accommodation was disappointing. We had a double room which was very dated and the décor definitely needed refreshing. There was only one bedside cabinet for the double bed, with a chair placed at the other side instead of a second cabinet.

Review 28:The staff and service were excellent, always helpful and friendly. Facilities are all good.

Review 29:The room was terrible - 2 singles when I asked for a double (although the hotel was not full). It was dirty and the fittings were very old and in poor condition. A blanket in the room looked about 30 yrs old! Room very noisy.

Review 30:The hydrotherapy space was good.

Review 31:First night we were in room 102. It had a noisy fan in the ceiling outside the room which kept us awake. Also a huge cobweb on ceiling.

Review 32:Good location stunning views. Pleasant staff. Very apologetic when complained about room and gave us free upgrade to superior room.

Review 33:Stayed in old wing of hotel ,room was in need of a re-furbish it looked very tired. Beds need replacing (or even just the mattresses) I felt like l was sleeping in a hammock.

Review 34:Very convenient for llangollan yet in a quiet location. Staff very helpful and ready to sort out any problems. Well maintained forecourt and gardens. Excellent breakfast

Review 35:Room only had a bath not a shower and you have to go down to the reception area to get wi fi

Review 36:As it is about half a mile outside of Llangollen they have plentiful parking and it is an easy walk in to the centre

Review 37:No air con in the restaurant , my auntie nearly pass out and when we asked for the air con to be put on the staff refused so we had to leave, my auntie wanted to get married at your hotel as we had told her it was a fab hotel but this put her right off an spoilt all of ours stay

Review 38:The spa was fantastic

Review 39:Fan and light , over sink , in bathroom was not working. Cleanliness in bathroom very poor. Television table rotting and television so low had to stand to watch it. Poor furniture and holes in wall devoid of pictures etc. this was room 209 so be warned. Defects passed to hotel management.

Review 40:The location and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 41:breakfast arrangements where a bit odd, first day was buffet which was good. second morning had to order breakfast, waited a very long time before it arrived

Review 42:just a nice hotel

Review 43:The room was dark and dismal, bed ok, it was a four poster bed which l hate, but was comfortable enough, the hot water was luke warm so we could not have a shower, as we only stayed one night we didn't complain till we checked out. The receptionist wrote down what we told him and apologised.

Review 44:The location was excellent.

Review 45:Booking .com said it had a safe in the superior room we had. Receptiontold us it didn't plus he didn't have one either. Wifi was non-existent unless you walked to car park. Mattress had springs orsomething digging in.

Review 46:It was in the right location for what we wanted to do. Staff inrestaurant were very kind and helpful as was the staff in the spa. Itwas the young man on reception he needs training I think.

Review 47:The meals were repetitive if we were staying more than 2nights, the net curtains needed a cleaning

Review 48:Peaceful in a lovely setting and very relaxful, spa and staff were friendly

Review 49:Room 105 had two blankets on a shelf behind the door that were not fit for a dogs bed and should go in a bin ! Not that we needed them. The tiling in the shower badly needs grouting, and a chunk of enamel is missing off the bath. The rest of the hotel is great.

Review 50:The bar staff were great, the breakfast was brilliant

Review 51:The Room was very dated, carpet was torn, shower was rubbish. We had asked for a upper room which they could not provide as it was fully booked. We spent our 1st night in a B&B near Fairbourne which we thought was cleaner than the room we were allocated at The Wild Pheasant.

Review 52:Location & spa were great

Review 53:Great hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Room was lovely and breakfast was wonderful. Great variety of food. If you stay here I recommend the spa aswel. Treatment the best and so relaxing. And pool is brilliant

Review 54:Cricket in the bedroom, carpets dirty, beds very very old matress I felt every spring the window didn't close properly and the room 102 felt damp. The spa needed a good clean but better than the next hotel we visited the sportsman in Porthmadog which was £30 more expensive and no spa!

Review 55:First impression wasn't good when you see the outside woodwork in desperate need of painting and numerous carpark lights not working AND the lighting on the entry to reception outside non existant. The room was ok-ish although the décor could do with bringing into 21st century. Room was scruffy. Bathroom tiles had mould on them obviously hadn't a deep clean in years. Fixtures and fittings and tiles were of the type I had in my own bathroom 25years ago' Wall paper coming off the wall. Only there for one night wouldn't go again. (On checking out a guest was complaining of shower head held in place by piece of cardboard} Upside for my wife it did have tea making facilities

Review 56:Location was close enough to walk into town.

Review 57:food rather overpriced. rooms looking a little tired. music very loud in dinning room.

Review 58:staff friendly and helpful facilities good beds comfortable and clean

Review 59:Probably a bit petty, but my daughter wasn't able to use the spa as she was under 16. I didn't realise this and I wouldn't have booked had I known. Also (again a bit petty perhaps)that the decor was a bit dated and could do with a facelift. Could be stunning!

Review 60:Easy to find. Spa small but excellent. Food good. Clean and fresh. Pleasant stay overall.

Review 61:The place could do with a bit of a clean up.We visit a lot of spas and this one is not the cleanest we have visited. Also we weren't given robes or slippers which is what I would normally expect from a spa. The hotel is nice but the bathroom did have black mould around the bath and although it was clean the hotel is looking rather worn and the carpets were worn in the corridors and the lighting was very dull in these areas. With a spruce up this hotel would be amazing

Review 62:The food was fantastic and the staff were lovely. The location of the hotel is beautiful and the bunnies on the grass outside were an extra treat.....

Review 63:Rooms in old part bit tired and bar area could do with makeover. No lunch served on our day of arrival because of function despite us ringing and checking day before.

Review 64:Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent Spa facility. Good location to walk in to town. Excellent breakfast. Good value.

Review 65:Not as romantic as described. Stain marks on ceiling under air conditioning, long dark hairs in bath, double electric points under wall did not work where we were supposed to plug kettle into and iron spewed water out onto wifes clothes.

Review 66:Food was nice, staff were friendly and location close to centre.

Review 67:The chips with our evening meal were somewhat bland. Crisper next time, please!

Review 68:Excellent jacuzzi/sauna/spa facilities. Lots of peace and quiet in a delightful setting.

Review 69:the bed was hard, there was a continuous noise in the room all night that we couldn't find the source of. the staff said we should have informed them and they would have moved us, this noise although there all night became a problem in the early hours, did not want to move at that time of night. Staff informed in the morning they were to send a maintenance person to investigate.

Review 70:well situated on the main road through, within walking distance of the main town.

Review 71:Our room and bathroom were very dated. Bathroom grouting could do with some mildew remover. Couldn't get on the free wifi as signal was too weak.

Review 72:Good breakfast and comfy bed. Night porter was very helpful when we arrived back late at night.

Review 73:Room located in the older part of the hotel and was dated and need of a refurb. Plus room overlooked very noisy extractor fans which disturbed sleep.

Review 74:Location

Review 75:My Bed was shocking no support which left me with a bad back but as it was only a 1 night stay did not complain. Bed room had dust on the doors cobwebs over the tv and all in all our room was dirty also water would not clear from bath when taking a shower this i reported. I stayed at this hotel 10 years ago and this was a trip away with my Wife to celebrate 31 years married and i was shocked at the way this hotel has been run down it really could do with some TLC oh and better cleaners

Review 76:Location was great, staff very friendly and breakfast was really good

Review 77:We had to ask for a mattress cover as bed very uncomfortable without one, new mattresses required!

Review 78:The staff were really helpful and nothing was too much bother. Special thanks to Michaela and Abbey

Review 79:The rooms we were in were in the old part of the hotel and really needed upgrading. The meals in the evening were pricey.

Review 80:The lovely location of the hotel. The staff were friendly. Breakfasts were good.

Review 81:Some of the rooms is in desperate need of updating. Room 210 is like Fawlty Towers. Be prepared when running the bath to get soaked by the shower too. The toilet...Noisy! Bed..super creaky.

Review 82:Lovely location. We've stayed many times. Lovely staff & excellent food.

Review 83:We loved the location of the hotel, the food was fabulous the only thing we didn't like was in the restaurant in the evening we were the last In, whilst waiting for desert they were putting out breakfast plates and we felt quite rushed! But overall we had a lovely time and the weather was amazing! Would definately come again!! Thank you

Review 84:The spa facilities are great with a large hydrotherapy pools, steam and sauna rooms too. Bathroom floor was heated, which was great stepping out of the shower. My wife is Coeliac and the kitchen and restaurant staff were all extremely accomodating

Review 85:When me and my mrs got to the hotel we were greeted with a smile from the lady on the desk.. Later that evening a member of staff called abbey was every helpful to us both and when out of his way to make sure we was ok and he was the only person that asked us if everything was ok and I was sad that I didn't have the chance to thank him for everything he did for us before we left

Review 86:Not having a room where we could change for wedding we were attending! We had to get ready in spa changing room which was cramped and boiling hot!

Review 87:The bedroom was huge with a great bathroom and even had its own sitting room!! Beautiful gardens and great location.

Review 88:Carpets dirty. Wallpaper peeling off walls. Shower badly located. Hotel in desperate need of refurbish.sausage at breakfast hardly cooked.

Review 89:Only stayed one night

Review 90:The room was very poor, bed very uncomfortable, mould in bathroom and on chair in main room.TV old analogue unit which would not stay on station selected.

Review 91:Tiles in the bathroom dirty, telephone didn't work for all of 3 day stay and hotel a dead zone for mobiles. Beds need replacing very soft. Room needed chest of drawers. 2 drawer chest drawers very difficult to open.

Review 92:The food, service and the spa facilities were excellent.

Review 93:the rooms were so dated and could be made modern without going to great expense and extremes...its a shame because that's what let's this beautiful hotel down...employ me to come and be the the hotel doctor, i'd revamp the rooms cheaply and modern

Review 94:We loved the location and the surroundings and the spa facilities

Review 95:Although the heated floor in the bathroom was welcome, it did make showering/bathing uncomfortable due to the heat

Review 96:A very well equipped hotel with an excellent new luxury wing. The Spa was an added bonus which helped us to relax when we arrived. Evening meal provided a pleasurable experience which arrived with very prompt service.

Review 97:Only criticism is that our bathroom was a little tired, would benefit from a deep clean to remove signs of mould,

Review 98:Great location, excellent service from the staff, delicious breakfast - generally very pleasant stay, will definitely stay here again

Review 99:The bathroom was extremely dated would not use shower because of mould &tiles on the floor dirty dried cement very old.

Review 100:The hotel was in a lovely spot just a pleasant walk along the canal to town

Review 101:Water in the spa was cold and had sand in it. Room badly in need of refurbishment, the curtains were falling apart and the wall paper was pealing off.

Review 102:Courteous Staff good location.

Review 103:beds were hard and not comfy, we were next to the fire door with no springs so every time some one came through it banged

Review 104:the surroundings very peaceful and the spa

Review 105:The room we got looked nothing like pictures advertised. Room was old, wall paper coming off walls, stained tiles in shower and there was a musty smell to room and restaurant. Disappointed

Review 106:Free wifi was good. Breakfast was good

Review 107:the room was dirty with lots of staining on the paintwork. the blankets were stained and old. The bathroom had greasy grime around the washbasin and shower /bath grouting was dirty.

Review 108:very little . the towels were reasonably fluffy

Review 109:not a proper pool, breakfast was ok , prefer buffet style , and yogurts

Review 110:3 spa pools , shame they not big enough for a swim , but everything else is great , sauna steam room etc

Review 111:Only one place in the bar area you could take your dog and this was the conservatory but the furniture is all dining and therefore not very comfortable if you want to spend the evening there

Review 112:Nothing bad at all

Review 113:We have been twice both times as a treat, it is a lovely hotel to relax and chill out, infact it is booked again for a treat for my sister and her husband, I have told her its a wonderful place to stay, and she is looking forward to it very much

Review 114:think the housekeeping staff should be re, trained not helpful at any time. and very rude to be slagging the wedding party off for leaveing the room untidy on the wedding morning. they even went as far as to leave cleaning bucket with cleaning materials inside for when we came back from wedding reception. it beggars believe that they would do such a thing , we had booked our room for 2 nights and of course it would have been untidy when the bridal party were getting ready the morning of the wedding but it was NOT DIRTY and the comments heard coming from the housekeeping staff were not acceptable maybe they should think twice before standing round gossiping

Review 115:The staff that worked the reception, Bar, and other areas were the ones that made the stay so enjoyable , nothing was to much trouble for them, they dont get enough credit for the hard work they put in when staff work that hard to please people then you happly overlook the not so good things that happen. Well done guys also the food was amazing.

Review 116:Hotel starting to look in need of a refurbishment. Spa not working then closed for cleaning. Wanted a beauty treatment but no therapists on duty

Review 117:My only issue was wi fi although I have previously stayed in a different hotel in the area and found connectivity problems there too

Review 118:my room was upgraded on arrival. The staff were lovely, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble

Review 119:bar meals no presentation ,burger (burnt to a cinder ) chips and runny coleslaw over priced at £10.95 that was disappointing , bathroom no shower curtain water everywhere ,

Review 120:spa and sauna as always very good shame the pool shower still wasnt working

Review 121:nothing about the place or location that was disappointing ,loved my overnight stay that much decided to prolong it to a extra night.

Review 122:spa was excellent, staff where helpful could not do enough to make sure your stay was a enjoyable one !!!!

Review 123:Breakfast - food was not consistent. Day 1 great - day 2 poor. Didn't bother with day 3 was put off.

Review 124:Room size. Let us use a conference room to store our mountain bikes.

Review 125:The outer door in the room only opened with a good push, the breakfast was lukewarm and seemed rushed and the room didn't seem very superior to me!

Review 126:The bathroom was pretty nice but could of been cleaner

Review 127:Location idea for stay in Llangollen as it's maybe 10 minute walk in. Lots of free parking. Good choice food and drinks. Very nice breakfast with good choice. We stayed in one of the newer rooms and although they are smaller than the old ones very nicely appointed. I believe that a refurb is due for the older part of the hotel and tbh it needs it. The only criticism would be the dreadful lighting in the spa area. It's very harsh and better lighting would create a much more relaxing experience.

Review 128:Bedrooms very old fashioned.Wall paper hanging off. Shower poor no screen so water poors all over floor. Felt quite grubby in general. Dirty cups.

Review 129:Location was good.

Review 130:Cant say there was anything we didnt like, looking forward to going back

Review 131:The whole hotel, the spar was so relaxing would have loved to go in the spar in the morn, but had a burst pipe, the staff were very polite when explaining.

Review 132:I'd checked on the reviews and they said the standard double rooms were dated,so we went for a superior room. The noises that came from the room kept us awake during the day and the night. The bath mat was disgusting, the overall cleanliness of the room wasn't very good. We dined in the restaurant which wasn't a very good choice,i sent my steak back and waited ages for a replacement to come back,my partner had finished her meal when it did. Complained about the room and the restaurant to reception but didn't get any joy.

Review 133:The location and maybe the steam room.

Review 134:The front of the hotel looked grubby and needed a paint to make it look nice and welcoming. The bedroom carpet was stained.

Review 135:I liked the location of where our room was situated.

Review 136:The shower in the spa was not working and no signage to tell you so many people trying to turn it on. They could do more to encourage wild life in the location there must be lots around but never got to see much.

Review 137:Everything was good, meal in restaurant was tasty, hot and well served. The spa was welcome after walking around Llangollen and before dining.

Review 138:The spa was small not enough seating. Food nicely presented not as enjoyable. Breakfast buffet was not Hot. Checking out was very slow.

Review 139:The Staff in the Spa were excellent. The Comfortable bedroom and bed.

Review 140:Room a little noisy at night (217) which did give a bit of a disturbed sleep.

Review 141:fantastic location, enjoyed the spa and sauna. Restaurant and the staff especially the gentleman who was there every day and evening. He was cheerful, attentive and really made the atmosphere in the place perfect.
