Reviews for Ivy Bush Royal Hotel
Review 1:The window wouldn't open, which resulted in the room being really stuffy and dry by the morning. The room wasn't as clean as it could have been, there were dustwebs behind the net curtains, which I found when trying to open the window. The bathroom was a bit tatty, two of the lugs were missing from beneath the toilet seat and the grouting on the floor tiles was breaking up. The bottom of the shower curtain was mouldy.
Review 2:The staff were really friendly and helpful, a credit to the hotel. One of our group was upgraded to a suite, which he was very impressed with!
Review 3:Very slow service, insufficient bar staff on duty for the number of customers. Some staff very inexperienced. Almost impossible to get food after 9.00 pm.
Review 4:Comfortable bed, good size room
Review 5:Extremely busy at this time of year, but then we're obviously not the only ones who like the place!
Review 6:Excellent staff attitude at all levels - nothing too much trouble. Good location close to main routes and easy to find with plenty of parking and close to shops.
Review 7:I was made to feel welcome when I arrived, my room was spotless and very comfortable. I was part of a reunion group and food prepared for us was spot on, staff were very helpful and I am looking forward to our next get together in July 2016.
Review 8:There was an event being held in the evening and the bar was horribly crowded and terribly understaffed making it a challenge to get served. On departure we found a substantial drinks bill had been wrongly attributed to our room. This was corrected when we pointed it out. No shower gel was in our room but was supplied on request. Areas of this hotel are looking tired . Breakfast was average.
Review 9:Central location with good car parking. A comfortable bed. Friendly staff.
Review 10:Not a thing to complain about
Review 11:First visit to hotel to attend reunion of the Royal Army Pay Corp Association. Shared twin room with a friend,we were very pleased with our room, lunch was excellent as were all meals, staff really helpful looking forward to next stay in your comfy, warm and friendly hotel
Review 12:Bath room needed a good deep clean. Alot of dust in bedroom. Quilt when I removed the cover at the end of the stay had a masive stain on it, had I seen it at the start of the stay I would have requested a replacemnent . Waiting 45 mins in the resturant for a starter of samon & prawns . Veg coming 14 mins after meat had arrived All when there was only 7 people in the resturant .
Review 13:Staff were very helpful nothing was to much trouble . (Reception , bar staff Waiting staff) Breakfast
Review 14:Shower curtain was smelly and needed replacement. Areas in the bathroom corners and behind taps were dirty.
Review 15:Breakfast and Sunday carvery were very good. Room was comfortable but corridors were cold and a trek to get to room 88 from reception/bar. Nice view of car park!
Review 16:Staff were efficient and good humoured. The room was clean and well aired. Breakfast was tasty and just what I wanted. Particularly impressed by the presence of soya milk.
Review 17:Good quality room, clean and comfortable. A noisy group of ex teachers met for our 40th college reunion and we were a bit noisy and excitable! Staff were great.
Review 18:Wash basin took an age to empty. A party kept us awake till nearly 1.0am Edges of the bed were very soft - felt we call fall out. (Room 145)
Review 19:Very pleasant and efficient staff. Very nice room Good menu
Review 20:Our room was small, dated and situated at the very back of the hotel - we had to walk through a warren of corridors, slopes and steps which was not easy with our luggage. When we went down to breakfast there were two coach parties taking up all of the dining room so we were allocated to the annexe. The buffet area is not well set out and the tea/coffee machine was a joke. Replenishing the food was slow and causing queues.
Review 21:The Hotel is in a good location, with ample parking.
Review 22:Every time that we have stayed recently there have been coach parties there and they take over the dining room at breakfast and in the evening, serving such a big party deflects from the needs of others. The room we had was tired and badly in need of decoration. Unfortunately it is the only large hotel in central Carmarthen and it could do with competition to keep it on its toes.
Review 23:flexibility of where to eat and location.
Review 24:As the breakfast room was due for a conference found it less than desirable for staff to be clearing and moving tables and chairs while residents still eating breakfast
Review 25:Convenient car parking space
Review 26:Sealant around the bath could do with replacing.
Review 27:Helpful staff as ever. We were given the room we requested which was quiet and the usual brilliant choices at breakfast.
Review 28:Some of the other guests did not appear to like the presence of young children.
Review 29:The staff were extremely accommodating, patient and friendly. Facilities were excellent.
Review 30:Unable to connect to WiFi in room.
Review 31:Clean, comfortable hotel which was ideal for our one night stay. All the staff were helpful and the buffet breakfast was very good with a wide range of food on offer.
Review 32:Afraid a cockrell that was right outside my bedroom spoilt it for me.Even though the bed was comfortable hardly slept.Very disappointed as the hotel was nice and the staff were excellent
Review 33:The bed was really comfortable
Review 34:If you walk from reception to room 107 the corridor after the top of the stairs is pretty awful. Doors need re painting and the corridor carpets need cleaning or replacing.
Review 35:Comfortable room and bed. Good breakfast
Review 36:When we arrived there was a wedding there so there was no parking spaces and also guests at the wedding were drinking and smoking outside the main entrance which did not give a good impression.
Review 37:The welcome from the staff, and also the location is good for us.
Review 38:We booked an Exec room which was fine but the bathroom let it down, a broken floor tile near the sink was a bit of a hazard and could of been a danger if i had not noticed it, so i covered it with a towel as didnt want the wife to cut her foot open.
Review 39:The hotel is in a nice location with good parking and close to town. The bedroom was a good size fitted out well with a good size bathroom.
Review 40:The room was very hot needed aircon The kettle was broke, could have been checked, the hairdryer had some of the casing missing, needs to be cheaper as only the same quality as a travel lodge etc
Review 41:The breakfast was as good as any I've ever had, the bed was very comfortable ,
Review 42:Didn't like the room too small and not enough light also not much of a view from window. We were too hot in the night so slept badly, we asked for duvet to be changed to a sheet and blanket but it did not happen. It was a great shame as we have stayed in the hotel many times and been happy with our rooms before this visit.
Review 43:Very friendly staff, bar meals in the evening were very good as were breakfasts.
Review 44:A neighbouring insomniac cockerel who decided to wake up one morning at 1.45am and the refuse collection at 5.50am the same morning.
Review 45:Good quality linen and towels. We stayed for two nights and our room was serviced when we were enjoying the buffet breakfast. We used the sauna for the first time and this together with the qym is a nice feature.
Review 46:My room looked and felt like a 1980s beach resort with the furnishings. The bedsheets were not comfortable, really felt like plastic.
Review 47:Great location for St. Peter's church and the Carmarthen library, just off of King street. Onsite parkin.g was nice
Review 48:Bar and restaurant decor and seating with poor style and no ambience or character. Signs about car parking everywhere - counted 9 visible from seat in bar and seemed to be top of list for staff instead of greeting guests.
Review 49:Room was comfortable and clean
Review 50:Warm welcome, large room with huge comfortable bed. Excellent food, if you get chance to sample the bread and butter pudding flavoured with orange and nutmeg...it is to die for!
Review 51:No problems at all.
Review 52:Hotel is in such a good position for town yet not right in centre. Staff always very helpful and lovely atmosphere throughout. A very good place to stay when visiting Carmarthen area.
Review 53:Booked a table for the Friday night, but due to poor communication this didn't get filtered through to the restaurant so a booking for 7pm we had to wait until 8.30pm - not much fun with a 7 month old baby!
Review 54:Love the fact that there is plenty of room to move around, also central to town. That breakfast is included in the price, whereas a lot of places this isn't - an addtional cost.
Review 55:I always enjoy staying at the Ivy Bush; the staff are very attentive and the facilities are good. The food is well cooked and my room was comfortable.
Review 56:Woken early every morning with deliveries and bin collection at around 04.00am Saturday and Monday mornings. This was not helped by the window only opening to it widest, I do not recommend that anyone stay in the rooms at the back of this hotel as the lack of a good nights sleep spoilt this short break for all of us
Review 57:Food services were all good
Review 58:The only downside for me and my partner was that we stayed in room 95 and the shower curtain smelt very musty witch made the bathroom smell but we didnt say anything as it wasnt a big issue for us
Review 59:It was the staff that made the hotel a really nice place to stay.
Review 60:Room was not as clean as it could have been i.e. cobwebs hanging from the ceiling above the bed. Also did not appreciate the choir group practicing their singing with a very bossy choir master in the lounge area which was below our room which went on until 9.30pm
Review 61:Staff were friendly and the food was good
Review 62:On arrival I noticed that the dish holding the complimentary tea/coffee had some spilt coffee granules some of which had come in contact with water and had stuck to the base. There was mould in the sealant around the bath. The seam on the side of the duvet cover had come loose (approx 6 ins) Room needed updating . .
Review 63:The staff were really friendly and the best thing about the stay was the delicious breakfast.
Review 64:Price of drinks
Review 65:Booked it for a leaving party. Good room. Clean and modern. Bathroom ok. Shower basic But worked some shape. Wi fi ok. We did have a buffet which Id say was over priced as were the drinks but otherwise ok. Breakfast was warm Nothing special but ok.
Review 66:Inexperienced bar staff - glass with single whisky topped to the brim with water. Had a second to show how it should be done! Poor bed making and dirty plug holes in the bath and wash-hand basin - the latter cracked. Didn't spoil a good stay but doing those little things well would surely raise the stars this hotel holds.
Review 67:Staff very friendly. Room good size and comfortable bed. Nice bar area; dined twice and food excellent. Breakfasts excellent. Central for town. Price for standard room very reasonable.
Review 68:Free wifi did not work on most recent visit, breakfast could be better.
Review 69:Probably the best hotel in Carmarthen, decent parking and rooms and bar comfertable.
Review 70:Soundproofing in my room poor. Radiator heating inadequate (room cold despite 2 radiators). Mould in shower.
Review 71:Location in town excellent. Staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast good.
Review 72:The room was comfortable and warm. Parking was excellent. Ideal for walking into the town. Our stay was for a wedding and The Ivy Bush Hotel was in an ideal situation. Staff very helpful at all times.
Review 73:Very loud noises from central heating and plumbing which kept me await all night. I was not made to feel welcome as a guest by the hotel staff. Bathroom was not clean. Lighting in room was very dim as 2 light bulbs were broken.no Internet connection in room.
Review 74:The time I left the hotel to go home.
Review 75:Bit of noise from heating boiler I think next to our room but to be fair we did not complain ( we are used to fan all night at home) but nothing that worried us too much.
Review 76:Friendly, good breakfast, clean and comfy beds, good receptionists . Absolutely ace about our dog.Tried everywhere in Carmarthen to take dog but no luck anywhere else( not a pub,B&B, anywhere). Being from C., the last thing I thought was that the Bush would take us - but they did.Thank you so much - took the pressure off us with a death in the family and elderly parents needing support. Good deal too- we will be back, if you'll have us! Delighted you have the 'niche' USP in the market.
Review 77:Beautiful hotel, very clean, bed to die for nearly 7foot wide, staff very friendly food was lovely and plenty of it,loads of onsite parking, well definitely use again best hotel we've used in a while if not the best .You will really enjoy your stay at this place
Review 78:The smell through out was not pleasant, the bed was so bad, lumpy, and seemed it had been slept on for years . Stains on the bedding and pillows. Uneven floors and irregular step heights. Rooms were cold despite rads on full and bathroom was in poor repair with the grout stained and mouldy.
Review 79:Staff were nice and helpful
Review 80:Service in the bar - for food was poor. I had to instigate my order for a drink, a menu, food, condiments etc. The lasagne was awful - dry, crusty and no hint of garlic or even herbs. Chips seemed to be from frozen - like cardboard to eat. So fed up of waiting for a desert menu, over 15mins after I had asked - that I left. No it wasn't busy - only two other sets of diners.
Review 81:Great room, clean, smart and comfy. Breakfast was okay but patchy service.
Review 82:Luckily my husband was in the bathroom having just got out of the shower when the key card went and in burst a maid/cleaner checking on whether she had left biscuits! Thank goodness he was still in the bathroom and not in the bedroom area, could have been rather embarrassing for all concerned. Staff she knock loud first and if no reply then let themselves in, not just burst in with their key card.
Review 83:Facilities are excellent and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Food is good and Hotel is within a great shopping facility. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and go there every November for Christmas shopping and some R&R.
Review 84:The bathroom shower curtain dirty in need of re grouting by the bath tap and the seal needed some attention. No early morning call as we requested on check in.
Review 85:The breakfast and staff
Review 86:Requested a bathtub if possible. Was put in a twin room with a disabled bathroom, no bath. Strange shower with a ramp onto tiled bathroom floor, not the easiest thing to negotiate on foot. Room was Incredibly grotty and dated. Felt Unclean... Discovered previous guests opened shampoo bottles in the shower, which was a terrible shower with just a trickle of water coming from a few holes on the shower head. (Would not have been enough water pressure at all to wash my hair). immediately noticed many hairs in bed. (Was not searching for them, were just there :( Strange smell to bath towels. Very small tv with only bbc1,2 itv1 and c4 in welsh. Disturbing consistent noise in room which sounded like it was coming from a boiler or something, disrupted my friend, who couldn't have slept with the noise. Staff did move her to a single room. Would say that some of the staff are not great with customer service, rather rude tbh. Overall, I would never stay here again and would never advise anyone I knew to stay either.
Review 87:Free wifi
Review 88:Only downside was that on the sat the eggs at breakfast were under cooked for our liking, but when asked staff to do fresh they were very accomodating.
Review 89:Myself and my wife were there on our anniversary weekend stayed from fri-sun was great, the staff got the champaign and flowers I asked for and they were ready in our room on arrival. They even upgraded us which my wife was very happy about, made our anniversary really special, this is our second time staying will be back soon. Perfect for our romantic gate aways.
Review 90:I live on a farm so found this funny rather than annoying, but there is a rooster with huge lungs just past the hotel car park. He started at quarter past midnight, took a few breaks and then really went for it from 4am. We didn't sleep very much as a result, but it was funny for a single night, after a few days I would have eaten him.
Review 91:Friendly staff, good restaurant, very clean smart room.
Review 92:Unfortunately and I appreciate it was out of the control of the hotel but there was a cockerel making a noise all night!
Review 93:Very spacious room, comfortable bed, excellent car park, I would stay here again
Review 94:Everything about the hotel suited us, from tea on arrival to our final breakfast. Although only yards from the town centre, the hotel was quiet, peaceful and very relaxing, exactly as we had hoped. The staff were helpful and courteous and the food excellent. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Review 95:Rooms need updating very drab and uninviting Room service menu was boring and unappealing Tellyd in rooms need to be updated and tuned in properly! No tea/coffee making facilities in my room I don't think the room rate is very good at all, I have stayed in far superior hotels for less than £75, I was very disappointed.
Review 96:Carpets in public areas look very tired and need replacing. Overkill on reminders to register the car in the car park!
Review 97:Location very good, food excellent, staff very obliging. Would stay there again.
Review 98:Breakfast was ok but dinner the night before was not good. I complained about the lamb which was overcooked and tough but just had a 'sorry' from staff. Our friend was charged for a bottle of wine which we did not have. Not a good experience.
Review 99:Had stayed with you before when my son had his wedding reception there which was lovely. Room was nice, comfortable, clean. Enjoyed our stay.
Review 100:Room was hot with no air con but I don't believe this would be an issue as temperatures were unusually high the night we stayed.
Review 101:Stayed overnight whilst on a motorcycle trip of the area with friends. Good size car park and felt fairly secure for the bikes. Good size hotel, nice little outdoor bar area as the weather was scorching.
Review 102:The bacon at breakfast was a little underdone for my liking, but that's a personal thing. I also could hear the rooster from 2.30am onwards so didn't get the best of sleep.
Review 103:The hotel was clean and tidy the room was nice and big with a big comfy bed,the staff were friendly, breakfast was so tasty. All our needs were met my husband had arranged for roses to be in our room on arrival and they were along with a vase.
Review 104:Some staff need smartening up. Shower needed a proper good clean.
Review 105:Plenty of parking. Good sized rooms. Beds comfy. Food good. Free internet access, although you do have to ask for a code each day.
Review 106:The bed was too soft and the room too hot.
Review 107:The location, the staff and the carvery meal
Review 108:But dated
Review 109:Perfect for a mum with 2 teenage boys and granny in tow.
Review 110:Alcohol was expensive
Review 111:Helpfull staff . Relaxing environment Good quality food
Review 112:Efficiency, friendliness, lovely afternoon tea.
Review 113:Strong smell of bleach in bathroom but on a positive note it was obviously clean!
Review 114:Excellent food
Review 115:Nothing bad to report.
Review 116:Everything very good as always when we stay at this hotel. Nice friendly atmosphere.
Review 117:Helpful friendly staff comfortable room good parking facilities close to town centre
Review 118:Cold room - ineffective heating Loose toilet seat Car park light shining in room Noise from neighbours
Review 119:Good parking facilities. Close to shops. Very quiet location despite being close to the town. Excellent, tasty breakfast.
Review 120:Good breakfast, improved toiletries, repaired faulty light immediately
Review 121:Enjoyed our stay, all staff very helpful. The room was very comfortable.
Review 122:the cooked food for breakfast was cold.
Review 123:The location of room 122 which was quiet
Review 124:Very well run hotel, clean and central, nice staff
Review 125:Good breakfast, good all round facilities, close to centre of town.
Review 126:Very very expensive for a booking. It is only carmarthen and I've stayed in others cheaperlovel
Review 127:Nice hotel
Review 128:Friendly, great breakfast buffet, good location, short distance from railway station and town centre, has a good carpark
Review 129:service, room was very nice
Review 130:The fan in the bathroom in our room did not switch off and was extremely loud so sleeping was difficult.
Review 131:Location and size of room
