Reviews for The Crown of Crucis Country Inn and Hotel
Review 1:The hotel is located in a central location. Spacious rooms. Very clean. Plenty of nice bars and restaurants roundabout but we dined in the hotel restaurant and would definitely recommend this. It does get busy so would advise booking beforehand.
Review 2:There was no one on the desk when we arrived, but the bar staff were very helpful, albeit very busy.
Review 3:Excellent food - including freshly made croissant for breakfast! - and very good facilities. Car park available, which was very convenient.
Review 4:Breakfast experience not brilliant. Asked to move from a table set for 4 after we had settled ( breakfast room not busy, though). Then seated by the table of cereals, juices etc - dark, and personal space issues! Portion size quite strange - tiny sliver of butter per table but very generous scrambled eggs made with at least 3 eggs! Hash browns and sausages not browned and a bit soggy.
Review 5:Comfortable room with lovely view of the ducks on the river and the cricket pitch. Bar meals were very good. Peaceful location with ample parking.
Review 6:It was not a bad experience but bearing in mind the location and standard of the establishment we would have expected the food to have been cooked to a better standard
Review 7:The hotel was excellent as were the staff. The only drawback which I explain opposite was the food but it would not stop us staying again or recommending your hotel
Review 8:Didn't like bar area lacked atmosphere, not cosy and comfortable. Not a brilliant breakfast, scrambled egg boring and bland.
Review 9:The bed was very comfortable We hadn't booked a table for dinner, staff were accommodating, we requested a quiet room and got one overlooking a stream, with a nice view.
Review 10:Attention to detail would be better. Bathroom needs updating as some mild in bathroom or just good clean. All staff seemed to take a while to notice you to be served all busy doing own things (not work related)
Review 11:Lovely place overall. Beautiful location
Review 12:The breakfast was un organised and a very poor quality if a chef cannot cook a simple fried egg then there is something seriously wrong.
Review 13:Place was very nice and a good location great view
Review 14:Loved the setting, the layout, the little courtyard that the rooms were based around and the interior, particularly of the restaurant, still very cotswold rustic.
Review 15:Nothing negative.
Review 16:Friendly staff, nice location. I didn't eat in the restaurant but had breakfast which was very good. The room I had was very comfortable with everything you would normally expect. There was a function taking place too, but you would never have known as the rooms are well away from this area. Overall, very good indeed.
Review 17:Rude member (male) of bar staff, who after I ordered a bottle or rose Pinot Grigio and was brought a bottle of white, argued that Pinot Grigio, was a white wine only. A female member of staff corrected him, but there was no apology.
Review 18:Location
Review 19:Not very interested restaurant staff, No offer of desert nor tea/coffee. Closed bar earlier than normal licensing hours although more than a couple of people wanted serving.
Review 20:Room and facilities top notch clean, tidy and comfortable. Hotel reception staff welcoming and efficient. Good food and decent portions. Great Breakfast.
Review 21:Not enough tea, coffee and milk in room. No reception staff available at 1100 pm to get any more! The cooked breakfast was undercooked, may have been cooked in microwave?
Review 22:The room was comfortanle, clean and pleasant, likewise the en suite bathroom.
Review 23:TV didn't work properly, WiFi kept dropping out or none at all, no signal and the hotel is virtually in the middle of nowhere.
Review 24:Could not fault the breakfast and the staff
Review 25:Surly staff, including who I suspect was the manager. Young girl atbreakfast pleasant. 2 teabags in the room & 1 packet of biscuits. Nobottled water which I have experienced in most places . Very long waitfor evening meal which was very average. Very poor breakfast.
Review 26:Location. Good room Bar area nicely furnished & decorated.
Review 27:The bathroom light switch was in a strange position- round about knee height. Also, breakfast was pretty average.
Review 28:Good location, nicely furnished. Ample car parking and nice outdoor area.
Review 29:Very long wait for service in the evening. Waited 1 hour 45 mins in total between sitting down and receiving our main meals
Review 30:Clean comfy rooms, nice views, fantastic location, good breakfast.
Review 31:Scrambled eggs at breakfast very strange. Not like anything I've had before very dry and only lukewarm. Cannot begin to describe what the eggs were like looked like a very fine grated cheese. Strange is all I can say..
Review 32:Location was good very quiet & peaceful. Generous portion for the evening meal steak pie was excellent but peas served with it very dry almost under cooked.
Review 33:The menu states choice of cereals and yogurts plus tea and coffee with toast. plus a choice of hot breakfasts including 2 eggs on toast. Having taken the eggs on toast as a choice I got one egg not two on half a slice of toast and did not get the toast with the tea at all. Not that impressed.
Review 34:The peace and quite was very welcome. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable.
Review 35:I was waked up few times in the night, cause bugs bited me, I got 10 rash on arms, shoulders and neck. Until I found 4 and killed 2 of them, I could fall to sleep. It was 4am! It is horrible experience. I showed to staff on next morning. They just said sorry to me.
Review 36:The hotel looks OK
Review 37:Carpet in bedroom very soiled, but understandable as you come straight in from garden. No trouser press or iron in room.
Review 38:Location was perfect for a quiet few days. Very generous breakfast: Salmon and perfect scrambled eggs. Staff were smashing, nothing was too much trouble for them.
Review 39:Two things. 1)The guest in the room next to ours was clearly drunk. He kept on slamming his bedroom door and while he was sitting next to us in the restaurant and his language was most offensive. 2) We had to wait an excessive time to order breakfast, although it arrived reasonably quickly, once we had been able to place the order.
Review 40:Very good meal on Saturday night. Room comfortable. Clean facilities. Good shower. TV adequate but reception a bit sporadic.
Review 41:n/a
Review 42:This was our third stay at The Crown and yet again we were not disappointed. The accommodation is comfortable, the restaurant provides lovely food and the staff are extremely friendly and give excellent service. All in all a lovely few days away.
Review 43:Poorly prepared room ,leaking toilet ,tv not working properly .staff mostly sullen and unwelcoming ,food only mediocre .
Review 44:Convenient location on main road into cirencester
Review 45:At Dinner, a Shared Fish Platter which we ordered as a starter between us - which would have served as a main dish! Excellent! Vicki who served us was delightfully efficient and an excellent host.
Review 46:Poor cooking of main course at dinner. Sent back first attempt as very undercooked. Second one took 30 mins to arrive. Asked for and was given a refund without argument plus free desserts.
Review 47:Although it was advertised as having wifi it was very intermittent in the bedroom.
Review 48:The staff were very helpful and attentive. The evening meal and breakfast were lovely. Setting very pretty.
Review 49:Paying £100 a night to be kept awake with shouting slamming doors by other guests
Review 50:Staff very friendly & helpful Food was lovely gluten free options
Review 51:Although the bar/restaurant was very well decorated, there was nowhere comfortable just to sit and have a drink without having any food.
Review 52:The room was excellent and very comfortable. Wonderful view from the window. Food was good.
Review 53:Unusually late check in and very early check out most other places we stay are 2pm check in and noon check out
Review 54:Very clean pleasant location friendly staff
Review 55:Breakfast could have been better with a larger selection of yogurt and some fresh fruit would have been nice.
Review 56:Really comfortable bed. Nice decor, clean towels and good quality shower gel etc. Room cosy with a great view overlooking stream. Good choice of food in restaurant and freshly cooked to order.
Review 57:They was nothing actually we didn't like.
Review 58:They made you feel like home from home, great staff, always polite and with a smile, the food was out of this world, heads up please book a table very busy.
Review 59:Bottled water and more milk and tea bags in room please.
Review 60:Peace and quiet. Lovely log fire and candlelight in restaurant. Location ideal for Cirencester.
Review 61:When they charge £16.95 for a platter of pate, cheese etc, only include 2 slices of bread, and then want to charge another £2.95 for another 2 slices of bread! And no porridge for breakfast. Lousy Wifi and no signal for at least a mile for either 02 or EE. I had used it before a few times and was already feeling food was overpriced so I will only use it when nothing else available
Review 62:Poor staff. Grumpy, non-attentive and non caring. Had to wait 40 mins for our main for dinner and then 30 minutes to order breakfast in the morning. Staff really didn't care when we made this apparent.
Review 63:Liked the location, pub and the food.
Review 64:The door to the room was narrow and entrance also. There was no obvious light switch. Use of wifi wasn't obvious and there area was a service black spot for me so comms were a bit of an issue. View of the car park and there were no papers or even local magazines at breakfast.
Review 65:The staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was nice albeit a little rough and ready.
Review 66:The only thing I may suggest is less vinegar in the water for the paoched eggs, the taste was too strong and even the toast tasted of vinegar because of the eggs sitting on top It was a bit pricey just for one night It's not in the centre of cirincester
Review 67:The room was clean and the beds comfortable The breakfast was really nice and varied It included a hot breakfast option It's quiet at night, although there was a strange dripping sound which I assume was water in the pipe work
Review 68:A few of the staff were very good but the majority were poor. Not properly trained, mostly foreign with limited language skills. Evening meals were poor and breakfast was only just acceptable.
Review 69:Good parking.
Review 70:Had difficulty getting wifi connection - employees confirmed it was problematic. We had to wait a long time for breakfast to be served; had to ask for another serve of toast; weren't asked if we'd like more tea/coffee; the waiter wasn't particularly happy or welcoming.
Review 71:Plenty of parking; room was comfortable with view of stream and fields beyond; heating worked very well and quickly. Room was a good size with chair. For once the hairdryer wasn't fixed in the drawer so was a pleasure to use. The bathroom was well appointed and clean. In-house dinner was well priced and enjoyable. Breakfast was adequate. The property was well positioned for our trip to the National Carriage Driving Championship in Cirencester.
Review 72:The breakfast was a bit confusing as no one to greet you to sit you down. Also the choice was good but the scrambled eggs were awful :/
Review 73:The hotel is very nice and has a grand country feeling about it
Review 74:Staff need to cheer up . Only one of the staff , barmaid / waitress in the bar area was cheerful.
Review 75:The hotel was in a convenient place for my business trip.
Review 76:Double bed is actually 2 singles joined together. Wifi is patchy. Breakfast choice is limited.
Review 77:Location to Cirencester. Easy parking. Facing the river and park. Easy to find. Has bar and restaurant attached. Has a cosy feel to it.
Review 78:Terrible long wait in restaurant. Food not great. Eastern European staff in restaurant very surly and aggressive.
Review 79:Rooms were quite nice and clean. Bathroom fine. English staff polite and cheerful.
Review 80:The WiFi was patchy in the room and kept dropping out. There is also a login process and limit. I do not like shower baths you have to climb into with a clingy shower curtain.
Review 81:Good location next to a running stream. Excellent car parking facility. Friendly staff, they were Romanian. Easy access to a ground floor room. The bar has a good selection of beers and ales. Restaurant menu was extensive and the food was excellent. Good pillows. Good quality toilet paper.
Review 82:No A/C nor air movement in the bedroom or bathroom. It was uncomfortably hot even with the windows fully open.
Review 83:The location and all of the staff were friendly with one exception.
Review 84:Would suggest the piped music at breakfast be a notch lower on the volume !.
Review 85:location very pleasant and ideal for me as Cirencester was where I needed to be .Staff very friendly and helpful, food excellent nice atmosphere in the bar in the evening, late dining very helpful . minor problem in room sorted extremely quickly and without fuss.
Review 86:Very pleasant and helpful staff throughout the hotel, Located in a stunning location with good access to the major road network. Very good restaurant and bar with a nice young team.
Review 87:clean pillow cases but no clean bed linen, I was shocked to see the duvet cover and bottom sheet had not been changed from the last guest.,s
Review 88:very pleasant staff on reception and in the dining room, food very good.
Review 89:- Poor menu choice for vegetarians. - I sat for a cooked breakfast that never came so I left the hotel hungry. - Water going off during shower
Review 90:- Location - reception staff very friendly and helpful. - Family friendly
Review 91:Bed was actually two pushed together, uncomfortable due to gap in the middle. Duvet smaller than bed, mattress cover and bottom sheet kept coming off as also too small. Only two tea bags provided, asked for more but only given another two.
Review 92:Friendly helpful staff and beautiful surroundings, overlooking a brook with lots of birds (saw a kingfisher) and bats in the evening! Great that gluten free bread available at breakfast but limited choice on dinner menu - and no puddings!
Review 93:Waiting staff not best english poor untidy dresscode, the bed was to soft and room was not as nice as 17yr ago not sure value for money
Review 94:Reception staff helpful and proffesional
Review 95:Bathroom had problems - hot tap faulty, toilet difficult to flush, toilet seat had one support pad missing, toilet too close to hot towel rail, bathroom waste bin broken.
Review 96:Enjoyed the aspect of the hotel, its convenience to major roads, and the rural setting. The beds were particularly comfortable.
Review 97:Bathroom extractor fan was so noisy, bath was very slippy when showeringAsked for a later checkout but was harassed to exit room
Review 98:Superb breakfast, room comfortable and clean
Review 99:Only staying one night and the scramble incident as mentioned.
Review 100:Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was great, good size bed which was very comfortable and a nice view of the river from the window, what more could you ask. Food very good indeed other than my partners scrambled egg for breakfast which she asked for soft and got back like a chopped omelette, didn't complain as only one server who was having a busy time and a minor issue. Overall very good stay.
Review 101:None. I suppose the food could not be described as better than good pub standard but that was what we expected and we were well satisfied.
Review 102:Quiet and comfortable accommodation. Other commentators have alluded to tardy service and rather brusque staff. We found none of that: staff were courteous and friendly and service was perfectly efficient.
Review 103:Breakfast poorly cooked and not a great choice of continental breakfast.
Review 104:Evening meals excellent and really good choice. Very friendly staff in bar and restaurant.
Review 105:Good location and a view from the room. Friendly staff and a nice breakfast. Clean rooms. The only negative was 2single beds as double. Overall I'd reccomend this hotel and would stay again.
Review 106:No mobile signal in hotel. Couldn't get the landline phone to work.
Review 107:Comfortable. With easy reach of friends in Fairford. Last minute booking - nice surprise.
Review 108:The Reception staff seemed rather young and flustered. One moaned about having "a million things to do" when I asked her a favour and the young guy completely forgot to tell us that our elderly guest had called to let us know she would be late arriving to meet us! Not very customer facing.
Review 109:Our lunch in the garden was perfect. Great food and really helpful staff in the restaurant and bar.
Review 110:Shoddy bar service. Waited circa 15 mins to be served whilst others arrived behind me and were served first. Ordered evening meal around 7.30 - finally arrived circa 9.15... !!! Totally unacceptable. There are numerous restaurants nearby - would recommend you use them.
Review 111:Reasonable location. Clean/comfortable bedrooms.
Review 112:The bed was so comfortable. Room lovely and position restful. Next to a stream and cricket pitch where a game was in progress. Lovely Sunday afternoon.
Review 113:The food was mediocre, neither good nor bad. Service was sluggish at dinner and breakfast, especially Sunday breakfast. Tables at breakfast aren't laid consistently, with different tables missing different items, such as menus, milk jugs or marmalade. The whole place is neither a hotel nor a pub, probably best described as a pub with pretentions. However, prices are towards the hotel end of the scale.
Review 114:Clean, quiet and comfortable, with good parking. It's situated in a pleasant area on the edge of a village and there are quiet lanes to stroll around before or after dinner.
Review 115:Staff were generally friendly although a little abrupt when we asked for something slighly different to the menu. Pub restuarant was a little gloomy
Review 116:Lovely room overlooking the stream, comfortable bed & quiet
Review 117:Unfortunately through no fault of the Hotel they had the water cut off for most of the day and we had no facility to wash our hands after using the toilets. We also wondered how the Kitchen staff also washed their hands while handling food
Review 118:Very friendly staff and a clean Hotel
Review 119:as we left to check out the courtyard was being washed down with soapy water, not good timing, and not good for wheeled suitcases
Review 120:The breakfasts ,BUT needed fresh and not tinned fruit- for those on medication, Grapefruit is not an option
Review 121:The hash brown with breakfast!!
Review 122:Location, style of hotel, our room - fab!! Nice food in the restaurant - Peroni and Stowford Press on tap - happy days!!
Review 123:With "Hotel" in the name you expect to have laundry facilities, but none were available. Fine for the short term stay but not if you have already been travelling for a week. Breakfast choice was limited.
Review 124:Location is very nice. Food is good though limited.
Review 125:Average food. We were not informed there would be a wedding party on the day we booked. This proved to be noisy and I felt it should have been mentioned when we booked.
Review 126:The location and the quality of room
Review 127:TV reception intermittent. Some breakfast items had run out when we sat at around 8:45am grapefruit, yogurts, sausages. No mobile coverage.
Review 128:Comfortable bed. Good value evening meal.
Review 129:The biggest problem was that we were asked if we would like a table in the restaurant for the evening. We said yes to avoid having to go out. A time of 19.30 was agreed. On arriving at the restaurant we were served our drinks order but advised there would be a delay in getting out meal because of a large party of people. I asked how long and told not very long but no time commitment was forthcoming. We got our meal at 21.00 hrs an hour and a half later. If we had been told honestly we would have gone elsewhere. I told the receptionist that I was not happy but no concession was made. The meal costs £32n. Only one set of towels left out, in a double ‘executive room’ with 2 of us. A minor annoyance, that was soon rectified with an apology. Then, the room was advertised with a hair dryer so we didn't pack one- unfortunately there was no air. We didn’t want to ask again. We won’t be going there again
Review 130:Mainly the location. The room was quiet and a good size.Booking was easy and checking quick. The breakfast was very good with good service
Review 131:Breakfast was disappointing; the one waiter was rushed and making mistakes with the orders. Dishes on The buffet table were empty and they were being cleared before people had finished.
Review 132:The location is beautiful and our room had a lovely view of the river. Reception staff were friendly and knowledgable
Review 133:The helpfulness of the staff, the comfortable accommodation, the cuisine, the internal and external design of the hotel, and the setting of the hotel - the adjacent small river, cricket ground and old village.
Review 134:The food was excellent and service good. Two minor problems, sticking bath tap and non functioning telephone on outside line were dealt with quickly.
Review 135:I booked this in order to have a good sleep before a long journey. We had no sleep because a wedding party remained up for most of the night in the corridor outside our room. For a wedding party it is nice but for a good nights sleep it didn't work for us.
Review 136:Dog friendly and nice walks from the door.
Review 137:The food is overpriced. We had an expensive burger and chips. The burger was horrible and even the dog didn't want to eat it.
Review 138:We particularly liked the location as we were able to take our beagle for a walk along footpaths, quiet roads and fields and it was really lovely. The reception staff were helpful but not hugely knowledgeable.
Review 139:One slight issue - the wifi wasn't great in the room we were in - only available in a very small area.
Review 140:Friendly, efficient staff front of house. Good pub food and great service in restaurant.
