Reviews for Avon Causeway Hotel

Review 1:Too popular now since the referb

Review 2:Very friendly and excellent value for money. It has had a referb since I last stayed here and I think for the better. Very good breakfast too.

Review 3:Drunken wedding party fighting and swearing in the rooms just after midnight and smashing glass doors. Indifferent and incompetent staff from top to bottom, poor service in dinning room.

Review 4:The chef was very competent and the Estonian member of the staff very efficient.

Review 5:The room had a boiler or it was a large quite noisy system of some type outside and if it was summer would have been very disappointing. The bathroom was pretty tired too

Review 6:The location and the staff. The breakfast was lovely

Review 7:Corridors/carpets were worn out generally tired condition. Mattress in room needed replacing/upgrading and hotel boiler went on the first day so cold showers all round. Slow wifi.

Review 8:Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Review 9:Nothing really but the TV was a bit on the small side & located a bit far away from the bed so could not really be watched from the comfort of the bed!!

Review 10:I must admit I had one of the best breakfasts I have had in a Hotel.. Food was very tasty & obviously not cheap!! The breakfast was also included in the price so it was doubly good!!

Review 11:I understand the rooms are to be refurbed in Jan/Feb so do hope they are investing in new beds! Very lumpy and uncomfortable at present.

Review 12:Lovely building maintaining original railway features. Unexpected little touches like a cafetière in our room. Great staff.

Review 13:- Terrible shower and ran out of hot water. Extremely weak jet. - Bed was shocking. Terrible mattress with awful springs. Both my girlfriend and I still have bad backs from the sleep over 24 hours later. - Strange noise coming from the ceiling. Sounded like something metallic rolling backwards and forwards over the ceiling every 3-4 seconds, 24/7. Kept me and my girlfriend awake. Absolutely infuriating and a nightmare. - Staff didn't apologize or care when I complained upon checkout. - Separate taps, hot and cold in the sink. Hot tap burnt my girlfriend's hand when she needed to wash her face All round terrible.

Review 14:The only thing that was good was the food. Lovely breakfast and lunch.

Review 15:The bed was very uncomfortable - far too soft and a mattress protector with a plastic backing which was not great - we had a blocked sink which we reported on the Saturday morning, this was not fixed. Also the signage to the hotel was very poor, we struggled to find the hotel in the dark. They need some lit signage at the junction that you need to turn off from as it is a very small tight turning which we missed a couple of times.

Review 16:We really enjoyed the food at this hotel it was of a high standard and value for money - the bar man was extremely friendly and very helpful - nice quiet location in a small village. if the bed had not been so uncomfortable we would have had a great stay.

Review 17:Poor almost non-existent info on direction to hotel, made worse by road works. Room was very dated with a terribly uncomfortable bed, and was poorly furnished generally with very poor lighting.

Review 18:Close to airport, food available.

Review 19:Bit hard to find

Review 20:This is a delightful small hotel.Lovely food in fantastic, relaxing surroundings.Lots of good parking for our van.The train in the carpark is great & the historical relief maps etc. on display most interesting.Brilliant place to stay.

Review 21:Nothing

Review 22:The food was good, really excellent breakfast, the room was warm and comfortable with nice big towels, the staff sounded as though they enjoyed what they were doing. We particularly like the atmosphere in the extensive dining area and the fact that there was no stinting on the quality of the furniture

Review 23:Very helpful also they booked us a taxi and advised us about the time we needed to be at the airport for our flight as our Airline details told us to get there 3 hours a head but as Bournemouth Airport was much smaller than Gatwick obviously this didn't apply. We did not know how big the airport was so this advice was very good.

Review 24:The fact that the room we had booked had not been allocated to us and until I asked for a bigger room we would have been expected to stay in a very small basic room instead of the four poster room I originally booked!! There was wallpaper peeling off the wall, a blocked sink in the bathroom, and when I told the manager he said it was happening in all rooms and the water will eventually go down!! The water wasn't the issue it was all the gunk that came up with it, not a pleaaant way of cleaning your teeth!!! He did say he could throw some sink unblocker down to clear it! The shower was mouldy round the bottom and the take it or leave it attitude from the staff does not make for a pleasant experience. The free meal we had was ok but when we both asked for steak we were told there was only one left....... Funny that!! Overall we were very disappointed and we were not made to feel very welcome, needless to say we will not be visiting again.

Review 25:The location and the free meal and £20 off per night for not allocating us the right room.

Review 26:We had no problem, but getting luggage up and down the stairs to the first floor can be difficult - no lift. Disappointed we couldn't have breakfast in the railway carriage, now reserved for Murder Nights.

Review 27:Very comfortable and cosy hotel. Staff friendly and efficient. Excellent Wadworth ales.

Review 28:I phoned just before reception closed and had no answer and when I arrived 15 minutes later, it was obvious they had left quite some time before. It was only by chance I found the way in and got some help, even though the hotel had at least 36 hours to email or phone me to let me know what to do for a late arrival.

Review 29:Good breakfast. good price.

Review 30:The shower didn't get very hot, it kept going hot and cold.

Review 31:Rooms were very modern and comfortable - lovely location and ideal for us as we attended a wedding just down the road.

Review 32:The staff were happy to see us,and very at tentative. We always stay at this hotel when we fly out of Bournmouth. Accomadation excellent, food great,we

Review 33:On site restaurant and bar, excellent full English breakfast and good choice of menu for lunch and evening meal. Very welcoming and homely with interesting history, on the site of an old railway station. Close to Bournemouth airport so excellent location for our flight.

Review 34:The room and en-suite were very small

Review 35:Everything was excellent, especially the breakfast and staff. We will recommend this to all our friends travelling from Bournemouth Airport

Review 36:Not good four of a family being put in a room obviously meant for three. Problem solved after a heated argument with manager. Being told by grumpy breakfast waiter to move to bar area when I had hardly finished my breakfast and that the bar would open at 11 to take care of my hangover which I did not have. Experiencing my sister's reaction when she got blue-mold sandwiches from the bar.

Review 37:Comfortable clean Room. Good breakfast. Relaxing bar area. Good Wi-Fi

Review 38:We have stayed here on several occasions however the room we had on this stay was very small and noisy and only had a small window. This room should not be sold as a double and the shower room also very small.

Review 39:Very clean rooms, great good and friendly staff.

Review 40:The bedrooms are clean but 'tired'. Creaking floorboards in corridors are hard to ignore.

Review 41:It is an old train station and the restaurant is well furnished in keeping with it's history. It has a carriage waiting on the tracks outside, for hire, for parties. The menu offers traditional food, at reasonable prices.

Review 42:Need more road signage, easy to get lost Noise from bar and outside during the evening Tiny tv, need binoculars to see it from the bed!

Review 43:Easy checkin/out Modern room with comfortable bed. Good mattress and bed linen. Wifi Bar restaurant Easy parking Well stocked hospitality tray and toiletries

Review 44:Restaurant: Poor menu. No beef, no chicken left. Okay, it was Sunday evening 6pm. Dirty floor needed sweeping. Sauce bottle top caked and dirty.

Review 45:Comfortable room. Quiet.

Review 46:Rooms very dated - ours smelled very musty, both the shower tray & sink traps blocked so in danger of flooding the place when showering or cleaning teeth!!!

Review 47:The food was fantastic - breakfast was great

Review 48:Shower area could do with updating. Disappointed with the pork belly meal from the specials board as was fatty.

Review 49:Pleasantly surprised by the good size of room. Excellent breakfast.

Review 50:Ensuite could have been a bit bigger.

Review 51:Ideally situated for visiting Bournemouth Poole and Christchurch. Private car park. Lovely restaurant bar area serving delicious food.

Review 52:the beds, mattress, was rather uncomfortable, but the room itself was nice and the shower was fine. saturday evening meal was lovely, but sundays , because they had been busy during the day, the menu was rather limited, ended up with fish&& chips......

Review 53:the actual hotel was really nice, full of character, but without a car, we travelled by train, was expensive keep getting taxis.

Review 54:Nothing the place exceeded our expectations. We have often stayed at bland b&b's or hotels for double the cost. We will stay again.

Review 55:So Close to the airport at Bournemouth this hotel was perfect for a 6.30 flight. WE liked the railway theme as this was originally the station at Hurn. We did not eat here as we arrived later in the evening but it was a pleasant bar and good to sit elsewhere than our room. Staff were helpful and friendly-offered us a breakfast tray instead of the included breakfast.

Review 56:Our room had no heating and a member of staff went to fix but they couldn't, we asked to move rooms but they said no that they would put a electric heater in there after they did that they forgot to put the latch on our door, so anyone could of come into our room and take bits. The staff was apologetic and didn't offer any complementary drinks or food for the inconvenience. Not happy

Review 57:I like the little Train that you can have your food in and the interior was cute and homely

Review 58:Unfortunately our room this stay (room 6) was not up to the usual standard, sink was almost blocked so took ages to drain, extractor in bathroom wasn't working, and nasty watermark and wallpaper peeling away were signs of a leak in the roof. Also eggs benedict was served with bacon as opposed to the Wiltshire ham mentioned in the menu

Review 59:Have stayed here a few times, lovely out of the way location, beautiful pub with great character, and good selection of beers and wines. Free wifi throughout, and ample parking.

Review 60:The double bed, very soft and bouncy , far too soft for me I slept on floor using spare pillows and blanket ! am told it is being refurbished in January so hope for better next time,

Review 61:Location ideal for our purpose , quiet, very close to Bournemouth airport for anyone who is traveling . Bar food good choice. Pleasant surroundings

Review 62:Needs some updating and regular maintenance in the rooms. Our door lock and almost all window locks were loose - nothing 10 minutes with a screwdriver wouldn't fix.

Review 63:Quirky former railway station very close to the airport. Friendly staff

Review 64:Just be aware of the breakfast times we either misheard or were told the wrong time but they finish serving at 9 - although they were good enough to still let us have breakfast late!

Review 65:Location in a beautiful setting! Breakfast was really good.

Review 66:The room we were in had would have slept 4 people, found this totally unnecessary, also room looked out on to a flat roof on which kitchen extractor fan situated which proved to be very all through the night, room also very cold as heating was not working.Staff unable to resolve the problem. Stayed in room 14

Review 67:fairly convenient to Bournemouth airport.

Review 68:Staff muddled up several of the bookings in our party the week before our wedding. I stayed here on the eve of my wedding and was kept up all night with the noisy heating system.

Review 69:Friendly staff, good location, decent restaurant and bar area.

Review 70:Room 11 Super Kingsize Bed with a Kingsize Mattress, Super KingsizeQuilt Cover with a double quilt in it... The carpet had not beenhovered... The bin contained the remnants of the previous occupantspanty liner... Sleep was impossible thanks to the constant droning ofmachinery in the kitchen below (it went on all night).. Upon arrival thestaff thrust a form in front of me, pointed to two areas and said"date, sign" no please or thank you in earshot.. We ordered apot of tea for 2, when it arrived the cups were dirty, the tea potappeared never to have seen the inside of a dishwasher and the bottom ofthe sugar bowl was full of grit..

Review 71:Breakfast

Review 72:Everything seemed pleasing.

Review 73:The hotel was comfortable and the staff were very helpful. As I was with my brother and his wife the full English breakfast was very hot, and well presented. Would have again .

Review 74:Shower in room 10 needed some ceiling maintenance.

Review 75:Easily accessible to Bournemouth. Quirky - in that themed on the fact that it was an old railway station. Good to see the history remembered. Menu interesting and good value with the breakfast.

Review 76:The room was incredibly dark even in the bright sun, the wallpaper was peeling, you could strangely see from our window into another bedroom, the shower head was a little grim, the mattress was smaller than the base of the bed, springs ion the mattress kept pinging and poking me.

Review 77:The breakfast was very good and the decor of the bar and pullman carriage downstairs was quirky and I loved it. The tea and coffee facilities in the room were excellent

Review 78:Good rooms, good staff, great atmosphere, love the railway memorabilia giving a taste of its past. A really lovely surprise. Very convenient base for wedding guests at the Parley Manor.

Review 79:Bed to hard and wi fi not very food

Review 80:Staff couldn't do enough for you. Bar star I would give 5 stars they were very helpful and made you feel welcome.

Review 81:Unfortunately I was awoken to the sounds of rodents in the loft/room above me. It got that bad I had to turn the television on to block it out. Unfortunately this resulted in a very bad nights sleep. When I raised this the following morning, the manager said it was bats and they were aware of them in the loft but cannot do anything about them. This was apparently the first time someone staying in the room I was in had mentioned the noise.

Review 82:Location wise was very good for the purposes of my stay. The staff I met on arrival were very friendly. The breakfast was nice.

Review 83:The bed was a bit uncomfortable and the lavatory made an appalling noise after being flushed.

Review 84:The staff are excellent, the surroundings pleasant considering proximity to a major road and airport and the food very good.

Review 85:A lbit noisy from the road and the lack of instructions as to how to gain entry 'after hours'' left us grappling in the dark.

Review 86:A nice pub with nice rooms. Our 4-poster was clean and tastefully decorated. Liked the fact that there was tea/coffee making facilities in the room too.

Review 87:It wasn't a problem but the shower tray kept filling up when we each had a shower. I assume it just needs a bit of unblocking further down the system.

Review 88:Food and atmosphere was fantastic more than we could have expected. Our stay was an absolute pleasure

Review 89:The hotel reception was at the end of the bar. We waited 15 minutes while the staff served drinks to customers. The carpets were very dirty at hotel entrance. The whole place a little tired.

Review 90:Staff friendly. The railway theme well done.

Review 91:Hotel was difficult to find. Set av wanted to only drop off on the dual carriage way and couldn't find the hotel once we were in the village.

Review 92:comfort was good. Staff we met were friendly.

Review 93:Breakfast included in price. We phoned to ask if we could have breakfast although we'd have to leave at 6.20 hr in order to catch our ferry. We were told that in cases such as ours a tray breakfast was provided on the preceding evening, which we said would be fine. On arrival, at 22.45 hr, we enquired again about breakfast and were told that the kitchen was now closed, so it was too late to make arrangements for tray breakfast. We were under the impression that they had understood our requirements when we had phoned. We didn't make a fuss. We were told that it might be possible for them to provide 2 bowls of cereal, but we graciously declined.

Review 94:The setting of the hotel and railway-themed decor.

Review 95:The mattress was to small for the bed the duvet was to small for the duvet cover and the pillows were hard the shower was running hot and cold

Review 96:Staff where very friendly and helpful breakfast was very good with a good variety of food location was very good

Review 97:Disappointed that the breakfast is no longer served in the railway carriage. There is no food after 9.00pm, not even a sandwich. So please be aware of this if you are staying here after the ferry crossing, as it can be delayed.

Review 98:Good breakfast, reasonable bed, if a little small for a couple, clean, good internet

Review 99:Breakfast on last day was not as good as previous two days. Served scrambled eggs that were very poor. Bedrooms need updating especially carpets.

Review 100:Friendly welcome . Interesting and well decorated bar and eating area. Bedrooms clean. Most of the food served was good and value for money. Would visit again.

Review 101:We weren't told how to gain access to the hotel after hours so probably tried 6 external doors in the dark before tapping on a window at 12:30am (it's a side door alongside the train carriage!). The Hollandaise sauce that came with the Eggs Benedict wasn't very nice. Noisy road outside.

Review 102:Convenience to wedding venue and Bournemouth Airport. Excellent value for money, lovely English breakfasts. Friendly staff, nice rear garden enclosed for kids

Review 103:I have a minor point (but could be important for some!) that the shower pressure was erratic and so quite difficult to control temperature. Probably due to old plumbing system but should be able to be remedied with shower pumps perhaps?

Review 104:The staff were very welcoming and efficient! Superb breakfast choices and would definitely recommend. Rooms were nicely decorated and comfortable.

Review 105:Main reason for staying was B&B. Bedrooms very tired and in need of a refurb although promised for next year! Key reluctant to open the door (were warned) one light out in en-suite, one bedside light didn't work, shower area had mould and damp. Missed having breakfast in the carriage, now in restaurant

Review 106:Location was handy for us. Refurbished restaurant looks an improvement Breakfast was good

Review 107:Could be a bit noisy as near to dual carriageway, but noise didn't disturb us. No phones in room, but that didn't worry us. Good value for money... and we ate snack lunches outside as well as huge breakfast inside.

Review 108:Nice atmostphere, small hotel with good food value for money. as very close to wedding event at Parley Manor, 5 mins drive. Rooms were fine.

Review 109:breakfast lacked imagination - there were no 'tinned fruits', yogurts(as advertised),breads other than toast, cheeses, choice of jams and marmalade.Difficult to find due to poor signposting off main road

Review 110:Unusual place and setting

Review 111:The room was very dusty. We also stayed in room number 5 which was surrounded by all the corridors and so was very noisy when people walked by. The base of the bed was also broken, but was too late to complain by the time we noticed. When I mentioned it to the guy on checkout, he just noted it down to pass to the manager. Ideally a discount should have been provided as it was an uncomfortable stay. Shame really as its a lovely place.

Review 112:Breakfast is lovely and the pubs restaurant is great.

Review 113:Bathroom poor condition; damp bath panel, shower curtain didn't work, water went everywhere. Fan didn't work. Poor water pressure from shower. Horrible view from window whicn overlooked roof top of generators and pipes. Shoddy carpet, very uncomfortable bed. Room nothing like the pictures on the net. Could hear noise from other rooms. Staff serving the meal touching and stroking a dog on the premises.

Review 114:Friendly staff.

Review 115:Because we had an early flight we had to leave about 7.30am. Breakfast is supposed to be at 7am but there was no staff in attendance at that time. It was after 7am by the time we got access to dining area and found out we had to wait to have a hot breakfast which we were looking forward to having a long journey ahead of us - very disappounted.

Review 116:My husband and I had an early flight to catch from Bournemouth Airport. Although the hotel could be hard to find its location is ideal being only a short drive away from the airport. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are very pleasant. Enjoyed a quiet drink in the lounge in the evening of arrival.

Review 117:There was a bright outside light on until quite late Breakfast times a little early

Review 118:Very pleasant staff, easy parking, booking, great selection of beers, just everything was so easy. Great price

Review 119:The view from the window. The hotel is in a nice forest, and I expected a nice natural view. Instead, we were looking at some pipes on the roof.

Review 120:Very nice restaurant, tasty food. The rooms are spacious compared to other hotels of this type.

Review 121:Nothing not to like

Review 122:Surprised to find it had once been a railway station. It has recently had a makeover and has tastefully been refurbed with a railway theme. Staff were delightful and breakfast was superb. Definitely go back.

Review 123:The bed seemed to slant towards the headboard, gave a feeling of legs higher than rest of body

Review 124:Excellent short stay, great staff, good food. Very quiet. Very central although tucked back from main road. Great theme.

Review 125:The sat nav takes you to the road opposite! The bed had horrific plastic coated mattress and pillow protectors on it! These made me sweat and toss in a crunchy discomfort all night! Breakfast was mean- very small portions and although cheap, I shall not stay here again!

Review 126:Welcome was good, room good size and plenty of parking.

Review 127:Would have hired a car as it is not close to amenities.

Review 128:This hotel is very unique, a converted Railway Station complete with Steam Train and Restaurant Carriage. We stayed on two separate occasions flying into and out of Bournemouth Airport and both rooms were lovely, clean, comfortable and in keeping with the themed location. The Four Poster Bed on the second night was very unexpected. We would recommend this Hotel and without hesitation would certainly stay here again.

Review 129:A little noisy at night woth tge window open being next to a major road but got used to it quickly.

Review 130:We had a wonderful time in this hotel. The staff were so helpful with everything we needed and the breakfast was filling, varied and lots. Would stay again in a heart beat.

Review 131:The hotel is in an isolated position and so we had no choice but to eat dinner at the hotel. We thought the menu was not very interesting - it was just the usual pub grub.

Review 132:The staff were very friendly and the hotel was clean and comfortable.

Review 133:Bathroom too hot - couldn't turn off heated towel rail. Could do with some refurbishment in bathroom.

Review 134:Comfortable large room. Excellent hospitality tray. Friendly staff. Food in restaurant very good and choices on breakfast menu.

Review 135:Eating breakfast whilst the cleaners hoovered and mopped around you. Cleaning should really be completed before breakfast serving begins.

Review 136:Set in a picturesque setting. The bed was comfortable.

Review 137:Our bedroom was a little too warm and we couldn't find a way to reduce its temperature, even when we opened the windows.Only a small problem though!

Review 138:Welcome reception, nature and decoration of the hotel, the state and quality of bedroom, the staff friendliness, dinner and breakfast.

Review 139:View out of the window onto flat roof of kitchen with litter on it. Smell from kitchen in room. Continuous loud noise from air ducts.

Review 140:Cleanliness of room

Review 141:Lack of staff at breakfast time. Had to look for them.

Review 142:Small hotel with a lovely homely feel about it. The garden and the bar a very spacious and comfortable. Food excellent and good value for mone .

Review 143:Pity they don't serve breakfast early but they did provide a tray of cereal, yoghurt and fruit the night before for the morning so we could get away on time

Review 144:Comfortable room and quiet despite being a pub/restaurant. Easy to find. Convenient location on way through New Forest

Review 145:Arrived 21:00 no food available, not even a sandwich. Needed an early breakfast for flight out of Hurn. Served from 07:00; ok. no staff around until 07:10, ordered breakfast, waited until 07:35 but it never arrived, had to leave to check in. So no food for duration of stay. Two other guests in same breakfast situation. Will be contacting Wadworths.
