Reviews for Kakslauttanen Igloo East Village
Review 1:Anyone can enter the luggage room and take any luggage away whether by mistake or not; The activity I failed to attend cannot cancel; There's nothing except the hotel, and the village nearby is not convenient to go; The hot water is not enough. It ran out when I am taking the showet; There's no wifi in the room!
Review 2:Nice atmosphere
Review 3:Emailed concierge twice before arrival to book excursions and the only reply I got was an auto response that they are busy. Location of shared showers for East igloo village is just too far for the colder months. For the price you pay there are simple things that are just not included such a housekeeping. Be aware that the glass igloo is not at all a "luxury" hotel room and more like camping in a heated glass tent with a bed and porto potty. Igloo bathroom has no privacy both from inside (understandable) and outside (ridiculous) .
Review 4:Glass igloo concept is great but definitely not for everyone. Comfortable beds. The staff was very helpful and friendly once we got there. Food was pretty good. A quick 10 minute drive to the town of Saariselka and about 30 minutes from Ivalo airport.
Review 5:Quite expensive, with limited choices if you decide not to rent a car and explore a little further from the village facilities.
Review 6:Quiet location where you really can unwind. Raw but beautiful landscape to explore on foot. Staff were all friendly.
Review 7:October is the slack season for the Finland. Not enough facility. Guest have to carry the luggage from reception to the glass house through un-even road. It takes more than 15 minutes on windy day. It's harsh No wifi in the glass house, and no kettle
Review 8:Special experience with the glass house. Nice and friendly staff. Good location
Review 9:Staff were SO friendly. Everything was warm and cozy. Reception and Restaurant were great along with great food. The Log Cabins were incredible. Beautiful. comfortable, rustic huge stone fireplace. Saw the Aurora Borealis on the first night! Free breakfast. There was no snow, but it didn't matter! Was sad to leave here.
Review 10:Staff aren't as friendly as their price tag would suggest. Some particular staff are particularly rude to the customers. Charges could be quite mean and inflexible. We stayed for 7 nights and they refuse to provide more firewood for free.
Review 11:We stayed in a log cabin and it was clean and well maintained. The small kitchen is well equipped with pots, a pan, plates and all the basics for cooking. The surrounding was surreal!
Review 12:expected more services such as hot water within the room and activities provided within the hotel in view of the price of the igloo
Review 13:The igloo is stylish
Review 14:No housekeeping during stay. For this price, we expected someone to clean the room. The dinner set menu was not value for money. Service is like hostels.
Review 15:Cabin and glass igloo were well designed. Cabin had own sauna and igloo is a very cool concept.
Review 16:- Location is pretty remote and costs at least 25 euros for a 10min cab ride to the nearest town - Autumn doesn't seem to be the best time to visit the place. Winter should be a lot better but also a lot more expensive - I wouldn't exactly say it's value for money, but rather more of a luxury place to stay - Activities were frankly quite expensive. 144 euros per person for a 3 hour activity. We did the husky hike and quadbike (ATV) aurora hunting. Weather was unfortunate so we didn't get to see anything due to 100% cloud cover even at night.
Review 17:- friendly staff that went the extra mile to help make your stay as comfortable as possible (shout out to Abi and Hoa Phung) - amazing facilities in the log cabin: authentic traditional fireplace, bunkbeds, personal suana, mini kitchen - glass igloo was small but it had a toilet at least. Amazing experience to lie down on your bed and stare directly at the night (cloudy) sky
Review 18:- Location is pretty remote and costs at least 25 euros for a 10min cab ride to the nearest town - Autumn doesn't seem to be the best time to visit the place. Winter should be a lot better but also a lot more expensive - I wouldn't exactly say it's value for money, but rather more of a luxury place to stay
Review 19:- friendly staff that went the extra mile to help make your stay as comfortable as possible (shout out to Abi and Hoa Phung) - amazing facilities in the log cabin: authentic traditional fireplace, bunkbeds, personal suana, mini kitchen
Review 20:2 single beds were pushed together to make a double bed (when booking the igloo it was excepted that it was a double bed), bathrooms and sauna was 800 metres away, no activities at the hotel and traders were building a facility Starting at 7am every morning, leaking sink in igloo, no lights in half the igloo, broken trash bin, over priced dinner which was below quality and quantity standard for the price we made, no signage to igloo, rude Indian staff member and soft boiled eggs at breakfast
Review 21:The glass house accommodation was great and the restaurant was cosy
Review 22:Reception is far away from the igloo, too many small stones and sands on the road, very difficult to walk around with luggage (check-out). Shower and Sauna are in a large carbin across the wooden bridge. Light was not on in the night and no sign on the road, very easy to miss it!
Review 23:Really helpful staff - drive us to the igloo after checking in. Food was nice in the restaurant, both free buffet lunch and set dinner (€27 each). Surrounded by forrest, good to walk around in day time.
Review 24:no towel change nor cleaning service during the whole week. No hot water for 2 days, which was only solved after 2 reminders.
Review 25:Nice and spacious log cabin, good food in the restaurant and with very friendly staff, great location to go cross country skiing, very quiet and in the nature
Review 26:no wifi in the house. far from everywhere, better to drive there.
Review 27:a great location to see northern light. Just saw it outside the house. Interesting to have Sauna and fireplace.
Review 28:be careful with east and west village! east village is smaller and located between trees and very traditional where as west village is fancy Christmas village with much more igloos and therefore more people. and even booking.com says "east village" you never know where you will end up! very disappointing!
Review 29:nice location, very romantic if it is not cloudy, beside the hotel no other restaurants or shops near by
Review 30:When we arrived there was only 14°C inside of the cabin and most of the radiators were turned completely off. Would make sense that if i'm paying that much for accomodation then i wouldn't need to warm that place up myself. No WiFi except in the main building. Quite crispy price.
Review 31:We stayed three nights in a cabin with fireplace, kitchen and a sauna. That was just awesome. We grilled sausages in the fireplace and had a sauna each evening. Really nice place to be with just yourself and your loved ones because it is quite quiet in that location. Also, at night, stars are really visible when clouds are not present. They even try to have less lights around to make Northern Lights and stars more visible. We also managed to see Northern Lights at one night, but don't take it granted that if there's a clear sky then there will be also Northern Lights. Everything needed to cook was also present in the kitchen so even made our own lunch and dinner few times.
Review 32:Location is a little out of town, so have to take a cab places.
Review 33:Location was good for seeing the northern lights. Stayed in the glass IGLOO which was awesome. It does not have WiFi, but who needs it out there!!!
Review 34:Bath room facility is rather simple.Too pact in the reception area, where many customers check-in, make enquires and connect to wifi.
Review 35:House Location to Experience Northern Lights and Wild Lapland
Review 36:Some staff could be more friendly. Compulsory Food is average
Review 37:Northern lights visable This is not a hot type establishment. This is more of a luxury outdoor/bed and breakfast experience.
Review 38:The only negatives were minor. Although people arriving at the resort should know about the available activities, it would still be nice if one was asked on check-in if any (other) activities would want to be joined or booked. In the restaurant, one evening the waitress mentioned the chef's specials (which do cost extra), while the waitress the other two evenings didn't care to mention and she only told me what was available after I asked about it.
Review 39:The log cabin was excellent. More than enough space for 2 people, and I absolutely loved the private sauna within the cabin. Easy walking distance to the reception/restaurant, and nice walking trails though the resort/village right outside. Cross-country ski trails are also passing just right past the village. Excellent food in the restaurant.
Review 40:The cabin was in need of a good clean and had a broken front door lock that we had to request be replaced. The hotel advertises an al a carte menu but we really had to push to be able to see this & ordering had to be made a day in advance, even for two people. The alternative was what was called a 'Half Board' meal, this consisted of three courses for Eur33. We tried it once, but with green leaves for a starter, curried chicken that was very dry and unpleasant for the main course and a very firm panacotta for desert, we didn't go back for more ! On leaving, the receptionist 'Hu Yin' tried to charge us for meals that we hadn't had and a cake that we had requested on arrival that didn't materialize to the value of Eur126. When I explained that we hadn't had these items she became aggressive and very nasty until a fellow guest who was also leaving and who she had tried to overcharge by Eur264 stepped in. She spoilt what had been up to that point a nice holiday. We would not return due to this bad experience.
Review 41:The location was absolutely stunning, the tour guides fabulous, though the tours had to be booked through the hotel and on a visit to the local town we found out that the prices had been doubled by the hotel. The cabin was quaint and spacious, though in need of updating. The breakfast buffet had a good selection.
Review 42:Nothing. Everything was well laid out. I wish I would have seen the northern lights but that just means...next time!
Review 43:I loved everything about this place. The owner Jussi was wonderful in giving me a tour of his property. The staff are wonderful and very personable. They are there to make your stay comfortable. 1. Yes there is a charge for taking your luggage out there. After towing your luggage through gravel paths, you will understand why they charge the 8/9 Euros. It will be worth it. You can store your luggage if you are going to the glass igloo. 2. The log cabins have their own sauna and shower area inside each cabin. There is refrigerator, stove, sink, dining table, private porch area and counter. I was traveling by myself. My cabin also had double bunk beds and a king size bed. 3. The resort does serve dinner but the front desk does not stay open all night so make sure you have If you are coming here. There is a to grocery store in Saariselka. I hailed a taxi to grab groceries and back. **Ask the reception to call a taxi for you. From the signage, it appears only taxi approved by the hotel will be allowed on premise. 4. There is NO television nor internet (wi-fi signals) on the property EXCEPT in the reception area. 5. If you are planning on dining in the dining hall, make sure to reserve your slot and let them know if you cannot eat certain food as the menu is fixed. They catered to my "no fish" diet and the food is AMAZING. Seriously, the best salad dressing and steak I have ever tasted! Try a local drink. I tried something called Reindeer Piss and Jussi's Tawdy. There is a main gift shoppe but ask to see the one gated off. There are more expensive items and fur. Also clothing made by the Sami people. I loved my stay, the crisp air, the great staff. I wish to thank Jussi, Joti, Angela, and all the wonderful staff at the reception. My stay was truly enjoyable.
Review 44:The tours offered by the hotel are too expensive. The meals (dinners) were also expensive, and there were no other alternatives (or very difficult ones) but to eat in the hotel.
Review 45:There was a really strong smoky smell in the cabin, cabins are too close to the road, interior of the cabins needs refreshing
Review 46:Close to hiking tracks, own sauna in the cabin
Review 47:Far from town. A few number of buses in a day. Better to drive rental car or hitchhike to town.
Review 48:Quiet and enough dark around the hotel. If wether is fine, good to see northern light (even in Sept). I stayed at lodge and used fireplace, interesting.
Review 49:Finland is already silly expensive, but this hotel takes it to new level. Their tours are at least twice the cost of doing the exact same by one self and they often don't add more than a driver and a bowl of soup. Gold panning for instance costs 15 EUR on site, and 50 EUR at the hotel with a driver and soup being the only difference.
Review 50:The staff was absolutely fantastic and went far out of their way to accommodate us and help out with even the smallest needs. For them alone it's worth a visit, but the location and all the things to do in the area are as well.
Review 51:Quite pricey overall but still enjoyed every minute
Review 52:Beautiful surroundings, incredible accommodation.
Review 53:Good to stay for leisure
Review 54:Nothing to dislike
Review 55:The staff were pleasant friendly helpful some of the best I've experienced
Review 56:The price is expensive. The ways are complicating even with a map.
Review 57:Reindeers arn nice. Sauna is nice.
Review 58:customer service
Review 59:Awesome location
Review 60:No wifi in cabin
Review 61:The wood cabin is well equipped, comfortable and special. Staff are nice.
Review 62:Kinda close to the main road, would have liked a more remote feeling. very expensive
Review 63:Cool igloos
Review 64:Location again. No shuttle bus from hotel to go to the down town.
Review 65:The wooden house is good, feel comfortable. Good location to see northern light
Review 66:Difficult to get around without a car
Review 67:Great food and great experience
Review 68:Lovely place and staff very friendly. Stayed in igloo. Watched stars and saw northern lights. Brilliant
Review 69:restaurant closed, breakfast not fresh. Seems like not too many guests and the facilities not open because of that
Review 70:Cabin
Review 71:staff ( Jody really very very good!!!!!!) view sauna snow natural
Review 72:Way too hot in the igloo and no chance to control the heating Breakfast variety and quality could be improved
Review 73:The glass igloo was awesome
Review 74:The glass igloo was awesome! and remarkably comfortable
Review 75:God bless the glass igloo! We woke up in the middle of the night with a green lantern in the sky! Amazing!
Review 76:the price is too high.
Review 77:the cabin is vey beautiful
Review 78:No wifi in the room and hard to drive directly to the room. Gotta walk long distance with luggages in the snow.
Review 79:Cabin heating was not suficient for -40º outside
Review 80:The location, the cabins, the programs
Review 81:Dinner was very disapponiting. There is only one compulsory menu, the quality is low. What's more, the cost is too much expensive:((
Review 82:For the price, I would have liked slightly better service. But not complaining, just a comment.
Review 83:The log cabins were really comfortable, and the setting (in the middle of a forest in winter), was unmatched.
Review 84:Very long walk from the main building. Small breakfast buffett choice & the salmon was overly salted. Cashier mischarged our meals but to their credit they refunded us (but the hotel has no record of our cash payment at all !). Set Dinner was reasonably priced at Euro31 (incl starter, main course & desert) but NOT tasty. The curry chicken fillet was hard like rock and sauteed reindeer was so so. Given similar price, we had eaten better, tastier food at Teerenpesa and Petronella at Saariselka. As we also stayed at the Igloo, we had to leave our luggages in the luggage room but to my horror, all luggages were un-tagged, un-guarded and just left in a room which is not locked. Anyone can access the luggage room from outside. Apparently they only lock it at 10pm, so whatever happens in the day, nobody cares.
Review 85:Nice warm log cabin with sauna & fireplace. My kids loved shoveling the snow and the picturesque sight is really nice. Bedroom 2 was uniquely design with carved log as stairs.
Review 86:If not driving, only few bus a day, and we waited for 30mins at -12'c at bus stop outside for a delayed bus. Cabin not very good for seeing aurora with trees around, need to walk for 5mins to the bridge to wait outdoor. Not recommend reindeer safari for aurora, 2 people crowded in a sledge with no hot drink provided (different from description on leaflet), and walking speed on boring track only
Review 87:Nice warm spacious cabin with private sauna and kitchen, expensive but worth to stay for a night, nice breakfast, fair 3-course dinner at 31euro (no other choice anyway unless u cook yourself)
Review 88:Brilliant hotel! It was a winter wonderland! Beautiful. Cabins are a bargain for the price and the setting is beautiful. If you are arriving by bus, the stop is right outside, we came by car which made the nearby town of Saariselka. The breakfast buffet has a good selection and great value, we also ate dinner there on our first night which was delicious and good value for the local prices at 26 euros per person for three courses. Yum! The cabins have private saunas, there is also a public sauna if you are staying in any of the hotel accomodation that does not have a sauna/shower (glass igloos). This place made our holiday the best ever! Loved transporting our bags on the sledges provided to the cabin in the snow, so much fun! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The cabins are a generous size for 2 people, we were wowed when we first walked in!
Review 89:Nothing
Review 90:Execellent staffs.they are really helpful and nice . We have to get bus at 9am to heading to other town. We were thinking we cannot get enough time to eat as it open 9am. By then, they were ready braskfast for us. It so warm! The cabin is lovely and it be worth to stay there. Location is good between inari and saaraska town where only take 30mins / 10mins. Easy to access both places. Dinner is deligus !!
Review 91:Not a great location if you don't drive. You will also have to carry your luggage across the site on rocky path.
Review 92:Cosy dining room. Log cabin with private sauna was a great experience. Quality quietness to enjoy nature
Review 93:No telephone in cottage, if you have any problem you need to go to the reception in main building. Unfortunately, reception is not working for 24 hours.
Review 94:Friendly staff, meal good taste, good experience to stay in cottage.
Review 95:Poorly maintained cottage. I would certainly won't consider it again. The price is exceptionally high but the quality of service provided to us was really bad.
Review 96:The hotel staff was very unhelpful. They insisted on charging us an additional fee to use existing beds in a cabin we rented. The cabin itself had burned out light bulbs, broken fixtures and cabinets, and no daily housekeeping. Very poor value.
Review 97:I would not recommend the 4 hours reindeer safari. The travel to and from the location is 1 hour, no running reindeer, only moving at slow walking speed. I recommend the 2,5 hours safari instead with a Sami host and running reindeer at a nearby location.
Review 98:Wonderful log cabins, perfect place for watching the northern lights.Husky, snowmobile and reindeer safaris available, nice tracking paths at nearby Kiilopaa and ski possible at nearby Saariselka.
Review 99:Shower next to the sauna was not working, pipes were frozen. Curtainswere missing behind the bed and in the kitchen.
Review 100:Nice, cosy and warm chalet, the small one is perfect for two adults.Very nice experience in the glass igloo, although too expensive. Nicelocation. Staff was friendly and helpful. Late check-out (14h) waspossible at no additional cost.
Review 101:It is not many choices of food in the restaurant. My cabin was outsidethe site but no prior notice and no indication on the hotel map. Hotelstaff didn't warn us to bring light with us to walk at night. Turnout there's absolute darkness and no signage to lead me back to thecabin after dinner. We are worried to get lost and animals around. Werequested for transporation to our cabin at night the other day and turnout the driver doesn't know the way at all.
Review 102:Nice environment!
Review 103:A full log cabin with its own sauna! I feel that I could stay here for a week. Everything was comfortable and away from the city lights. A good retreat for both couples and families.
Review 104:reception was poorly organised, and upon arrival there was no service as only one member of th team knew what cabins had been allocated.
Review 105:friendly staff and wonderfull setting. smashing food and easy to find.
Review 106:I stay in honey moon suit. However, the room is small and only with private Sunna and large bathroom but nothing special. The lighting is not enough.
Review 107:The environment is good with great view. Staffs are friendly and helpful.
Review 108:far away from tour or supermarket, take a taxi cost €50 round trip
Review 109:amazing igloo , we stay here for 2 nights and see the Aurora dancing, u know there is -28'C at night, if not stay there i don't think i can watch it because we need to wait and see between 4-6 hours.
Review 110:The price is a bit expensive, the sauna wasn't hot enough, thebathroom have no design. No internet in the room, only in main receptionarea and restaurant.
Review 111:Overall is satisfied.
Review 112:The glass igloo we were assigned to was at Santa's Village and wewere thus subject to a third rate burlesque transgender cabaret showduring dinner which had no bearing on our surroundings or business beingrammed down our throats - terrible.
Review 113:Great set up with private cabins, fully equipped with kitchenette andsauna. Restaurant food was excellent with an extensive a la carte menu.
Review 114:Rude unhelpful staff. Keep an eye open for extra hidden charges forthings you didn't agree too. Very expensive activities, wouldrecommend people book their activities through local agents in thevillage near by.
Review 115:Great log cabins! Although they could have been cleaner.Excellent location.
Review 116:There are only limited staff serving the restaurant, reception andbooking activities. They are extremely busy during dinner hours. But thestaff already do their best. It's the problem of the managementpeople. There is a kitchen, but need to drive to nearest market whilelocal bus is infrequent. But the restaurant set dinner is of fairquality not, while the a La Carte menu is nice with reasonable price. The heating system will be switched off when we switched on the sauna.More unfornately, I've been run out of hot water during my shower.Okay it's a resort in remote area, all the price goes to the cabinand the environment .
Review 117:The cabin is excellent, with wooden decoration, which gives a specialexperience to city people. The place is dark enough so that we could seethe aurora outside the cabin. Staff are very helpful and they try theirbest to provide the service. I highly appreciate them as there islimited staffs. I arrived from Inari, there's is a bus stop rightoutside the resort, and then I went to Rovaniemi from the same bus stop. It's very convenient if you find the correct bus schedule.
Review 118:The compulsory half board when staying in the igloo had poorer quality food, but when staying in the cottage food was not compulsory and choice from the ala carte menu was very good. The opportunity for choice when staying in the igloo would have been appreciated. There could be better showers/facilities for those staying in the igloo village considering the cost of this, instead of using open showers meant for the sauna users (those who aren't use to showering naked with others are in for a surprise). Extra service to help with luggage to the accommodation would have been helpful. Wifi connection could have been better.
Review 119:The experience in a snow and glass igloo was great but extremely pricey. The small cottages though were well maintained, spacious with lovely wood fire and sauna, these were very good value. The staff are very friendly, especially the owner who would personally greet his guests. This was a nice touch.
Review 120:The rates were a little expensive. Also, they should have counters for checking in/out, restaurant payments and tour bookings/enquiry separately instead of the all-in-1 they're having now.
Review 121:The service staff there are excellent. They are patient with my queries and went all out to help me.
Review 122:Poor & Old kitchen facilities Overpriced.
Review 123:Very beautiful. Great breakfast buffet with salmon.
Review 124:In general the waiters were not very helpful
Review 125:The distance from a shop Not food available at the hotel
Review 126:The cabin The scenery
Review 127:Comfortable stay.
Review 128:Hot water cool down very quick. We wait for more than 1 hour but thewater still cold.
Review 129:The view is nice.
Review 130:No internet in the room
Review 131:Great wooden cabin with kitchen and sauna
Review 132:quite expensive
Review 133:well furnished the cottage, food at the restraurant is good
