Reviews for Best Western Plus Blunsdon House Hotel
Review 1:We happened to stay when there was a Christmas party also scheduled which made certain areas of the hotel unaccessable. This in itself was ok but the staff didn't seem very well briefed on what aspects of the hotel were then available to us eg restaurants. Service was also a bit slow and haphazard but I think this was more a reflection of the time of year than hotel standards.
Review 2:For an overnight stay it was more than comfortable and adequate.
Review 3:Jacuzzi out of order! Pool in a different building to our room although not too much of a problem.
Review 4:Had a swim in the pool before evening meal; good to have a choice of restaurant or bar for dinner and food was good. Beds comfortable and room spacious, and was quiet at night. Good choice at breakfast.
Review 5:The bed was a little soft for myself, but that is a matter of preference.
Review 6:Our room was beautiful the attention to detail was lovely and it was the first time we have had a comfy chair each,we even had a little Christmas tree.
Review 7:Turkey dinner was good but the Turkey a little dry and the optional breakfast seemed a little expensive.
Review 8:Excellent staff, great room very spacious. Superb service throughot the evening event
Review 9:Due to a mix up we had not checked out by 11am, the reception and cleaning staff were extremely agitated by this, despite the fact that the cleaners had plenty of other rooms on our floor to clean. It was a very bad end to what should have been a relaxing weekend. The Jacuzzi and Steam Room were both out of service, which was a major factor in choosing this hotel.
Review 10:The hotel had not placed our rooms together, but recitified this on arrival. I also left a leather bag in the reception, which has been forwarded to me by post.
Review 11:The decor of our room was a little worn in places but still very comfortable.
Review 12:Staff friendly and efficient. Loved the filter coffee machine in the room and spa facilities.
Review 13:Our room was not ready despite arriving 30 mins before check in. Was told to wait till someone called but they forgot.
Review 14:Pleasant staff Nice surroundings
Review 15:Very comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful, lovely atmosphere.. the food was incredible, high recommend the steak. And a fantastic assortment of single malts! An amazing stay
Review 16:We had our evening meal at 8.30 and found the meal rather too well done, leaving the meat very dry. It wasn't too pleasant. Sorry about that.
Review 17:We enjoyed the steam room and swimming pool. Very relaxing atmosphere.
Review 18:Pre-authorised my debit card on arrival-paid my bill in full on departure but they did not cancel the pre-authorisation and when I rang the first time I was told that I had to ring my bank to get them to release it. Rang bank and they said that that was ridiculous and they gave me a whole page of instructions to relay back to hotel for them to fax to the bank and then I was told it would still take up to 3 days for me to get it back. That is not acceptable,,,
Review 19:Excellent location and plenty to do.
Review 20:had to use two controllers to work tv, would not come on with one, room maid stated a lot of people had trouble with the tv,s. room a little tired.
Review 21:food in bar and restaurant very good, cost fair. staff very good and helpful.
Review 22:There was no walk through to the accomadation we were in so you had to go back out in the rain to get to it.. Least they could do is build a tunnel to the executive rooms.
Review 23:The room was excellent and area was great.
Review 24:While the food was good there wasn't much choice of bar snacks for those not wanting to dine in the flame restaurant. As a first time guest it was difficult to decide where to eat with a family.
Review 25:Lovely pool and gym facilities. Kids loved the Xbox facility. Food was good, tasty and filling!! (carrie's bar) Room was comfortable and clean with everything we needed.
Review 26:a bit inconvenient to have to walk from the annexe to the main reception and restaurants without cover in the rain.
Review 27:Room very quiet and large. Comfortable beds.
Review 28:The mattresses are not fantastic and really should be updated. The door keys kept failing thus we had to go back to the reception three times to get new ones as we were unable to get into our room. The TV remote control did not work correctly and when we attempted to book a table for dinner we were informed we could not book a table till 9pm which is far too late to be eating a night time meal. We then proceeded to go into town to eat the three nights we were booked in the hotel. The extractor fan and the night light did not work in our bathroom
Review 29:We have been before and enjoy our time in this hotel it is quiet and well situated to be able to go out and explore. The spa and its staff is excellent as are all the rest of the staff in the hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean we always stay in the pavilion part of the hotel and the staff are excellent in there.
Review 30:Toilet flush was not good and toilet roll holder broken. Breakfast self-serve needed topping up on arrival in restaurant at 08.45. This should be maintained regularly up to finish at 09.30 am.
Review 31:They gave us a lovely room in old part of hotel, as requested.
Review 32:Although room was clean under the bed my grandson found a pair of socks and a baseball cap. Booked in early and although room was not ready we were allowed to set a tab up. Had lunch and charged it to the room informed waitress of situation alas was frog marched to reception by burly angry Eastern European as she was unable to bill us. No apology from her. Disappointed children as pool out of action.
Review 33:Excellent provision for and tolerance of young children. Reception staff could not be more helpful and pleasant.
Review 34:Swimming pool closes to kids at 7.
Review 35:Stunning location with amazing views. Executive room was very nice. Food excellent. Good location for cotswolds and wessex downs. Kids play area was lovely. Good pool.
Review 36:Room smelled of sick with visible sick stain by bed, but was moved promptly. Couldn't check in at 2 as room was not ready, waited 45 minutes. Couldn't get a table in restaurant despite trying over a month prior to stay.
Review 37:Pool is good, housekeeping staff very friendly, bar nice, breakfast staff lovely. Location great for Cotswold Water Park, Wildlife Park etc etc
Review 38:The pool. Lots of space for different groups for a quiet intimate dinner or large gathering. Bar food was good and always available. Space for the children to play supervised outside. One of my favourite Best Westerns.
Review 39:Some of the spa faciloties were not operational - hot tub, mens showers in particular
Review 40:The family room and beds were excellent. Clean and large size. Nice touch with the coffee machine
Review 41:Unhelpful staff and had to send back dinner as steak was over cooked and belly pork was too tough to eat, no reduction in Bill offered, only a free desert which we didn't want. Made these comments on our stay feedback form but did not get any feedback from the hotel management
Review 42:Good facilities and great location, room were good
Review 43:My room was far too hot - even with the window open and I couldn't sleep. Restaurant and bar too expensive. Breakfast quite expensive
Review 44:Loved the facilities including pool, gym and play area. Restaurants were nice but overpriced. Food was nice.
Review 45:Air con in bedroom did not seem to cool the room very well, it was an exceptionally hot day though. The food served in the attached restaurant " Flame" was nothing special and overpriced.
Review 46:Good size bedroom with nice view, swimming pool was also a decent size.
Review 47:Only downside was how expensive it was for food £12 for a breakfast with £5 added on if you wanted room service wasn't going to pay £30 for us both to have breakfast when the local Toby carvery is down the road
Review 48:Loved the room we had a deluxe ground floor in the pavilion huge bath with walk in shower very quiet evening bar was good too
Review 49:Had requested table for 4 people on booking.com original booking but staff had no knowledge !! just as well they were not too busy. Also each room needs iron/board and decent hairdryers. Stay at many hotels and is now standard.
Review 50:Like the option of 2 bars, good food, restaurant appealing to the eye and staff very good mostly. Nice rooms with comfortable beds, tea/coffee etc,
Review 51:The hotel has a no-dog under any circumstances policy, regardless of size.
Review 52:We were travelling with our young (4 nearly 5 year old) grand-daughter. The room was fully to her liking with a bunk-bed and was very comfortable for us. Facilities were good and the staff helpful.
Review 53:The bed was too soft for us but that's all
Review 54:The beautiful views from our balcony across the country. Breakfast was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable.
Review 55:It's a somewhat sprawling layout of buildings. When you arrive you're unfamiliar with the layout so you carry your baggage to reception, receive directions to the room of dubious clarity, wander round in the dark with little assistance from signage, end up back at reception, then find the room, more by luck than judgement. And who chose that carpet!
Review 56:Clean, spacious room with desk to work at and balcony seating area with panoramic views. Similarly spacious bathroom. And a fridge/cooler.
Review 57:The breakfasts were poor, there was a lot of variety but the cooked breakfast was dire. There was not a great deal on the bar menu. The restaurant was expensive and not what I expected for the price. The hotel needs a refurb. It could be lovely.
Review 58:The location is great and it has lovely grounds with views over the Cotswolds Rooms were very clean
Review 59:Minibar fridge not working
Review 60:Pool officially restricted to 7pm for children was not nice Queen size bed: could have been a King Bunk bed for the kids cool
Review 61:A little shabby and the Bathroom could do with a good clean ( Around the shower tray internal and external ). Spa Hot Tub was broken which was a shame
Review 62:Nice staff, big rooms. Pool was nice. Restaurant was very good
Review 63:It very overpriced - room seems very old and no love for details. Food in the restaurant was really really bad
Review 64:I liked to facilities (Golf / Tennis) and the view.
Review 65:The pool was a little on the cool side, didn't like having to walk from the pool across sports reception area to get back to changing rooms.
Review 66:Excellent spacious room! The swimming pool was lovely! Spacious hotel with lovely atmosphere! Felt like I was on holiday abroad! Lovely friendly, relaxed staff.
Review 67:Breakfast was disappointing. Coffee should be more than brown water. The rest of the food was adequate
Review 68:Service in the restaurant was outstanding. Encounters with other hotel personnel were all very good. Facilities (other than breakfast) were exceptional.
Review 69:I was woken up three times past midnight by the adjoining room, called reception but had to knock myself in the end. The veggie 'beetroot ' tart was inedible, but the restaurant manager was very good about it and very professional.
Review 70:The room was spacious and the staff were friendly and very professional. Nothing was too much trouble, even breakfast at 3am (getting up for an Ironman!) A quiet and pleasant place to stay.
Review 71:The breakfast was awful, all dried up and that was at 8am. The waiting staff in the restaurant in a group talking and reluctant to clear tables.
Review 72:Friendly staff and room upgrade to a suite made the weekend. Plenty of car parking and great surroundings.
Review 73:The Flame restaurant at the Hotel has exquisite food, and was delicious! The room was wonderful with balcony and great views. Staff were very accommodating and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.
Review 74:Old fashioned decor. Family room not very big.
Review 75:Facilities very good. Very nice pool. Restaurant service excellent. Food very good. Pavilion rooms new with lovely views.
Review 76:The room had been smoked in before we checked in, took a while to sort this out.
Review 77:Great sized family room. Swimming pool great. Children's play area great
Review 78:No hand towels provided. No wi ri in room. Very inconvenient and phone reception very bad. Could not contact friends a few miles up the road.
Review 79:The peace and quiet, the lovely grounds and the comfortable bedroom with lovely sofas and goose storage.
Review 80:the only thing I could fault and it's so very minor we visited the Flame restaurant (which was lovely food, great value for the gorgeous food we got) we didn't seem to warm to any staff, we also felt a bit rushed, very fine line from good service to feeling that just wanted us out!
Review 81:spacious rooms, lovely baloney, cleanliness was superb. gym and pool were a extra bonus to make use of.
Review 82:had to change room on second night due to loud continuous noise in bathroom ? coming from plumbing.
Review 83:the health centre and pool breakfast evening meal
Review 84:We booked this hotel on the way down to Cornwall from Lincolnshire as a break from travelling. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. Breakfast was very nice. If I could describe this hotel in 2 words I would say affordable luxury
Review 85:View from the room could have been nicer - it was overlooking the car park.
Review 86:Layout of hotel was convenient, with the gym, lounge, restaurant and reception all easily accessible from one another. The view was also very picturesque.
Review 87:very dated and dark wood needs re decorating. Only 1 very small old fashioned lift for whole hotel. Bedroom dated. Staff average. Breakfast average quality but nothing special.
Review 88:location and grounds
Review 89:Had to ask twice for a bath robe each. First answer, only one per room. Chased for our room twice, long before advised time of vacation.
Review 90:Generally cheerfull staff except Household. Pool.
Review 91:The heating was on so room was too hot even with window open. No thermostat to turn it down. The toilet bin hadn't been emptied. The breakfast was dull. The bacon was leathery the yoghurt were all low fat and watery. Scrambled egg was rubbery.
Review 92:The shower was very nice. The bed was comfortable.
Review 93:The hotel is situated in a beautiful location with fabulous views. The facilities are very good keeping the kids entertained. And the staff are all extremely pleasant, polite and helpful
Review 94:Rude Maitre d', challenged booking details, no apology when discovered he was wrong. Food outrageously expensive pub grub. Nothing special. Too far from pool, no indoor access. Lots of noise from 7am as we were above the reception area, woke us each morning.
Review 95:Large family room. Bunk beds. Coffee machine in room. Lovely countryside.
Review 96:Disappointed to wait until 3 in the afternoon until room was available, particularly after a 4 hour drive. Choice of food in main restaurant and the bar was very limited and very little for the kids so we ate out after the first night. Breakfast was too expensive particularly as we had to pay for the kids who ate very little. £37 for 2 eggs and bacon Not good!
Review 97:Kids loved the facilities and the pool was the big hit. Room was super and comfortable.
Review 98:having to check out and go home! wanted to stay indefinitely!
Review 99:everything was just brilliant about this hotel. they think of everything even down to little sewing kits in the rooms in case of a button popping off!
Review 100:The facilities (spa, fitness classes, squash courts, games room), the friendly and very helpful staff, the restaurants made it a very relaxing and perfect break!
Review 101:The bar looked like its based on actual 70's UK hotel, but its just desperately in need of an update. The Club sandwich did however win my award for "Worlds Worst". All in all its not too bad. the sort of place you go to commit suicide....
Review 102:Its in a nice location, with good access to Swindon and nice surrounding grounds etc
Review 103:We chose this hotel for easy distance to the Cotswolds. It didn't disappoint, facilities excellent & felt very homely although its a large hotel.
Review 104:My wife and I both had the same steak. Mine was delicious but hers seemed like it was old or had been left out too long. However the problem was rectified immediately, professionally and we were not charged
Review 105:The room, free WiFi, the view, almost everything.
Review 106:The water in the pool has too much chemical and I swam under water with my eyes open. After that, I got my blurred vision and my eyes irritates for all the night. The water kid's pool is too cold as well.
Review 107:Rooms are good and our stay in general was nice.
Review 108:Nothing
Review 109:We had a fabulously relaxing weekend here to celebrate our wedding anniversary (without the kids). Facilitates were wonderful and the location was fantastic. Beautiful countryside to walk in or simply look at from our balcony. Will definitely return ( with the kids next time if they're lucky)
Review 110:The greeting on reception could have been better the lady that checked us in was not that welcoming and our room was not ready. We were a touch early to check in as the official time was 14.00 but she told us that this was the fault of the family before checking out late as it was the school holidays?!....despite the official check out time of 11.00?!....we hung around in the lounge would have been nice to have been offered a complimentary coffee at least.
Review 111:The swimming pool and leisure club plus the semi rural location with its own golf club as a back garden
Review 112:More a criticism the tables in Carries bar were not very comfortable for sitting at when eating a bar meal.
Review 113:Hotel situated in very pleasant grounds. Room upgrade was much appreciated. Staff were helpful.
Review 114:Staff to busy chatting in the restraurant service took over and hour from point of ordering to being served, even though only handful of guests. Limit selection and over priced food. Few staff spoke/understood english, so made ordering difficult.
Review 115:Room was lovely and quiet, over looking golf course. Would love to experience it in the summer. Loved the outside varandor. Room was very comfortable.
Review 116:We were a bit disappointed that you had to choose between either English or Continental breakfast as in all other hotels recently visited you can choose between either, this is preferable as my husband is a vegetarian and likes a little of both.
Review 117:We enjoyed our stay, pool and golf course very nice, also staff in this area excellent. Generally all hotel facilities really good.
Review 118:Restaurant service was dreadful Food was well overpriced for quality (venison smothered in pepper is disgusting)
Review 119:Location was great Room was very comfortable
Review 120:Had to wait quite a while for service eating dinner in the bar area. Staff v friendly but had to be reminded about pudding order etc. However, as we were with two young children we were more conscious of this...wouldn't matter if you were relaxing over a couple of drinks with dinner!
Review 121:Friendly staff, lovely pool, outside play area and grounds. Spacious bedroom with very comfortable bed. Good bunk beds (family room). Coffee machine in bedroom a nice touch. Delicious breakfast with many choices.
Review 122:The 150cm wide beds are to narrow, they need to be 180 or 200cm wide & more comfortable. Mattress toppers would be a good addition.
Review 123:Very homely, with friendly staff. Decent food in the restaurant.
Review 124:The room in the Pavilion was beautiful with exceptional views from the balcony window. The staff were friendly and welcoming from arrival and very helpful. The bedroom clean spacious with all facilities required. In the morning the breakfast was lovely with again friendly staff, highly recommended i know i will be visiting again
Review 125:Unfortunately one group of guests were unable to control their children in the bar area and room corridors. This was an irritation but did not spoil our overall experience.
Review 126:Leisure facilities Good restaurant Nice clean rooms
Review 127:Extremely poor service in the restaurant and as a result we cancelled the main course as waiting for one and a half hours for just the starter was ridiculous.
Review 128:Great facilities for the kids to have fun; pool table, play area, swimming pool, tennis and computer games! Not so bad for adults too; golf, sky sports and decent wine.
Review 129:Ideally would have had interconnecting room as travelling with another family
Review 130:Comfortable rooms, plentiful towels, convenience of family rooms with bunk beds
Review 131:Couple of things not much to worry about, room service delivered wrong meals but corrected it within 1/2 hour. No ketchups with breakfast. Nite nought milk in the room for the coffe.
Review 132:Lovely place too stay. Service was great.
Review 133:On your website you advertise big child's soft play area which is why we booked this hotel to find a very small area with just computers and a TV perhaps you need to take this out very misleading when you are expecting this
Review 134:The location and surroundings made you feel welcome, and pleased with the choice of hotel. Reception staff booked us in and made us feel very welcome. All staff are polite and helpful. Meal in the restaurant was one of the best roast beef dinners i have tasted , apart from own! Would be a perfect for a weekend away with family.
Review 135:Did not have the room was booked online and did not show us as having booked a family room.
Review 136:Room was nice, clean and comfortable and Food was good, overall a pleasent stay.
Review 137:Nothing major, but minor improvements to the changing facilities would be nice. It's a bit dated. Also whilst the rooms were spacious and comfortable, there were marks on the carpets (like heavy furniture marks) and stains on the chair upholstery which didn't look great. Small changes would make this lovely hotel even better.
Review 138:The hotel was just what we needed. The kids had a lovely pool to use, and enjoyed the bunks beds in the family room! The food was good too and they had a kids menu. It was very scenic and the hotel was ticked away from hustle and bustle. Staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking was convenient. The pavilion building is well kept and clean. If you don't want to have a formal dinner at Tawnys, you can sit in Carris bar and have a bite to eat. Much more relaxed. Food was freshly made. Leisure facilities were good. My husband enjoyed using the gym. All in all, perfect getaway with the kids.
