Reviews for Westberry Hotel
Review 1:A very minor issue - at dinner my husband had vegetables rather than salad on each of our 5 evenings there. The vegetables were the same every night, cabbage and carrots.
Review 2:Spacious, quiet, double bedroom and bathroom with bath. Comfortable bed. Interestingly furnished bar area with well stocked bar. Absolutely superb restaurant with fantastic breakfasts and a great dinner menu.
Review 3:nothing
Review 4:Have stayed a few times at the Westberry before and can't fault it. The beds and rooms are very comfortable and the location is very central to not only Bodmin's town centre (2 min. walk, but also to the surrounding area. Plenty of choice for breakfast and all well cooked.
Review 5:The food was good, but for what you get was very expensive, considering it was a 2star hotel, the food was at 5star prices,
Review 6:The room and accommodation were fine
Review 7:Male on reception constantly coughing when we were paying our bill without putting his hand over his mouth. Didn't appear to know how to take payment and debited us twice. Needs some guidance in customer service. Took almost a week to sort out the double debit. When I advised the female who sounded elderly I wasn't happy she told me she wasn't either!
Review 8:the friendly receptionist when we arrived who also served us breakfast on the Sunday morning. She was very informative when taking us up to our room. Friendly and helpful Room large and very clean really nice
Review 9:We probably picked the wrong time to arrive at the hotel as the normal reception manager wasn't on duty. In fact we had to search round to find someone to check us in. I think he may have been the owner of the hotel. We did get checked in eventually when the manager arrived shortly afterwards.
Review 10:As this was a family visit it suited our purpose very well as the hotel was just round the corner from my son's house. But the Westberry Hotel is a very central location to visit other attractions and places in Cornwall anyway. I liked the view from the dining room over Bodmin whilst we were having our breakfast. Plenty of choice and an excellent breakfast and cheerful staff.
Review 11:Being given no choice as to how to pay the bill ! Not impressed, in fact the money was taken off our card before we even saw the room !
Review 12:Excellent service and helpful staff
Review 13:The Westberry provides decent, basic accommodation in a central location, making it ideal for exploring the local sites. The room and bathroom were simple but clean. The restaurant was excellent - we had both dinner and breakfast and both meals were very good.
Review 14:Car park is a but small for parking but you can manage fine if you take time
Review 15:We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return one day don't think you could find fault with anything in hotel
Review 16:Room was dirty, and out dated. Room was cold due to window that would not close. No curtains at windows, only wooden blinds so sun came in, some of the blind slats were broken. In it's hay day this hotel was 3* now only 2* grade.
Review 17:Good quiet location, just off the center of town.
Review 18:2nd visit (the last was 3 years ago) noisy because our room was next to the owners and their lonely dog! No soundproofing, musty smell and dated decor.
Review 19:Central location
Review 20:Large room with four poster bed, large bathroom and comfortable mattress. Lovely breakfast, with a large menu. One small niggle was there were no beans on the breakfast, my favourite part. But the poached eggs were the best I've had, each one perfect. I would recommend the hotel to anybody.
Review 21:I do feel it was too expensive for what was on offer.
Review 22:Spacious bedroom and the bathroom was the nicest I've seen - not small and pokey. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 23:Very comfortable room with plenty of space to relax in. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Our breakfast with a fish choice and dinner on both nights we found the food exceptional. Very reasonably priced.
Review 24:We were in the annex so there was less noise. The beds were very comfortable and very clean, nice soft fluffy towels and adequate toiletries.En-suite area beginning to look a bit tired.
Review 25:Not really a complaint but the rooms are basic, the decor is dated and you can hear the other residents when snoring and when they run the shower.
Review 26:The location, free wifi and breakfast included in the room rate was very good. The room is basic but clean and the towels and bed linen were good.
Review 27:Had to swop beds with Grandaughter at 2a:m .She couldn't sleep as mattress too hard!!! Must admit it was very firm.Prefered my original bed!
Review 28:Pleasant room with ensuite and storage space.Ample towels and toiletries .Choice of heating if required.Tea and coffee making facilities.Helpful, pleasant and friendly staff.Onsite parking.Excellent breakfast menu and prompt service.!
Review 29:The heat in the hotel was very high and made the corridors slighly uncomfortable but that was our only complaint.
Review 30:The laid back feeling of freedom to enjoy yourself. The excellent breakfast and attentive serving staff
Review 31:I would have liked curtains at the bedroom window as well as a blind - it was rather light at night. A small packet of biscuits on the tea tray would have been very acceptable! Rather disappointed there weren't any.
Review 32:The decor, music and the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area were excellent. The evening meal was superb - we had the Thai. Fruit Pavlova pudding was scrumptious. The smell of fresh lilies in the reception area was lovely
Review 33:Pillows needed to be more comfortable or more of a pillow choice
Review 34:Was central to where we needed to be in Cornwall. Excellent evening meal in the steak & Thai restaurant and breakfasts very varied and good choice.
Review 35:I had a very unusual check in experience. It took some time to get a key for the outside door as I planned to return after 9pm. A long an drawn out search for the key ensued whilst I was in reception.
Review 36:Room was very clean and comfortable if a little dated.
Review 37:The gentleman who took forty minutes to check us in. Was rude, not helpful and gave us a difficult time for being late. ( we did call ahead of time to inform hotel of late arrival and it was ok) Our four month old was screaming due to an ear infection and we were told by gentlemen there would be complaints in the morning because of us. ( again took 40 min to check us in).
Review 38:The breakfast
Review 39:Room didn't have enough ventilation - very hot.
Review 40:Clean comfortable hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food. Relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.
Review 41:Grumpy reception. Washbasin in bedroom..separate from shower and loo.
Review 42:Excellent food, breakfast and evening meal. Efficient, friendly service. Clean and spacious room.
Review 43:No blinds to frosted bathroom windows, no curtain to shut out light in bedroom, blinds too narrow for window so lack of privacy, downstairs rooms overlooking car park (cars could park directly in front of windows.
Review 44:Warm dry and clean.
Review 45:The whole hotel smells of really strong, chemically air freshener. It's quite unpleasant and remained with me for hours after. Not nice.
Review 46:Very tidy, clean room.
Review 47:bathroom very small and needed updating as did the bedroom .Bed seemed to be small but was comfortable
Review 48:dining room and bar were very good and food was exeptional
Review 49:Nothing that we did not like, all good to excellent, thank you.
Review 50:Thia restaurant was superb, very tasty, not cheap but very, very nice. The staff that we came into contact with where very chatty and human!
Review 51:Had to request hot water for teapot, also more butter and marmalade, poor quantities of both at breakfast. Breakfast otherwise good.Toast was cold by the time breakfast arrived.Leaking gutter dripping onto windowsill kept us awake, but when told about it, they said they would get it seen to that same day.We were only there one night, so don't know if it was fixed or not.Minor complaints really.
Review 52:Requested a ground floor room if possible, and got one, albeit not in the main hotel building.Perfectly acceptable.Well kempt gardens.
Review 53:I booked this for my cousin and his wife and son. They were all very happy with the service, cleanliness and the excellent breakfast. The son said it was better than many 3-star hotels he had stayed at.
Review 54:nothing,we came down to cornwall for a funeral so our stay was very low key.the evening meal was a bit expensive
Review 55:overall a nice hotel the staff were freindly and the accomadation was very good
Review 56:built in a time before sound isolation had serious products. A reasonable amount of sound passes between the rooms. Noise transfer between rooms was the only fault in an otherise very pleasent experience.
Review 57:Well maintained property, nice rooms, gushing hot water, full size bath and shower, nice breakfast, excellent bed. A really nice experience was had at this well appointed and maintained property. Layout would sugest it was built in the late 1960s or early 1970's, but kept up to date, fitted with modern materials and finishing touches. Nice place, good staff, and ample parking.
Review 58:Like it all no claims at all. I have been staying ther 4 or 5 times a year for about 9 years
Review 59:Everything just feels like home very comfortable and friendly
Review 60:We travelled a long way to a funeral and they let us have a room early to get changed . The room, ensuite, bedding and towels were spotless. Staff helpful, Break fast was the best, and we were sorry we were not able to stay long enough to try the Restaurant. The food looked wonderful.
Review 61:Just one point - The room we stayed in had the sink next to the bed. it would have been preferable to have the sink in with the shower and toilet although we do realise there was a lack of space to do this.
Review 62:This is the second time we have stayed at the Westberry and once again they came up trumps. The staff are a pleasure to deal with and the service is second to none. The breakfast is wonderful and sets you up for the day. The chef's mushrooms in stilton sauce are to die for.
Review 63:Parking is a bit awkward owing to the difficult entrance. It could have been warmer upstairs.
Review 64:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The lounge and dining area was particularly warm and cheerful.
Review 65:Don't really have any complaints. However in preference, the mattress on the bed could have been firmer.
Review 66:The ambiance of the hotel. Great from the first opening of the front door and throughout our stay. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 67:The drainage from the shower into the bath was a bit slow.
Review 68:The location was great, the room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was fab and the lady serving it friendly and cheery. All in all good value for money and I'd stay there again.
Review 69:Noisy on Christmas party nights, until midnight. Bass thumping through the room!
Review 70:A comfortable bed, large room with adjustable heater, quiet mostly. Great breakfast.
Review 71:Nothing
Review 72:Great location a few minutes from the town centre & 10 walk to Bodmin & Wenford railway station which is worth a visit. Good sized room & bathroom with good en-suite facilities, Very comfortable bed & it was very quiet outside. Large dining area overlooking the town where I had a very good breakfast. Very helpful staff at all times. Worth the stay.
Review 73:The windows need looking at as you can hear everything going on in the car park through the vented parts at the top.
Review 74:Staff were very attentive, the chap even showed us to and around our room. The drinks are fairly priced and the breakfast was delicious. There's a spacious car park.
Review 75:The breakfast was poor. Was not happy at the cost for what was given. Poched eggs were not cooked properly. Sausages didn't taste nice. Bacon was hard and cokd. Coffee was very bitter. waited quite a while for the waitress to come to the table. Which was disappointing as it wasn't very busy.
Review 76:Comfy bed.
Review 77:the mangeress thought she was one above everyone else
Review 78:the facilities were good restaurant was excellent and the waiting staff friendly ,parking space was off road good.
Review 79:Side dish portions at dinner were less than generous.
Review 80:A hassle free stay with helpful attentive staff including the owner whose out there front of house serving etc & very open to discussion suggestions etc. Dinner very good & not over priced all be the side dish (rice, noodles etc) portions are mean. Breakfast brilliant, good quality food & more than enough along with as much tea/toast etc as you could possibly want.
Review 81:My room was extremely tired with electric heating which you could notcontrol except by turning it of and on manually. The noise from thecistern could be heard all over the hotel, the hot & cold to thesink was very slow and it took an age for it to drain away. Verydisappointed
Review 82:The restaurant and restaurant staff were great and whilst the foodselection could have been wider what I experienced was very good
Review 83:Just needs a little updating, but that maybe me as used to modern hotels.
Review 84:A good standard of Hotel in a central location. They were helpful and walked me to my room after showing me the breakfast area etc. Made good suggestion for restaurants even though they have a good Thai restaurant (not my cup f tea)
Review 85:No curtain on ground floor window left us feeling as if we could be seen from car park with light on as Venetian blind did not cover the entire window. Other windows in this annexe had curtains. Step up into shower was slippery when getting out of shower , and the lack of ventilation in shower room as caused mould on ceiling and grouting. Expelair was not working.
Review 86:Location. Close to town and family. Ground floor room ,very convenient Good breakfast , friendly waitress. Comfortable bed, and very quiet
Review 87:We liked everything about the hotel, although some rooms overlooked the car park which could me some disturbance with noise and lights.
Review 88:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room and facilities were comfortable and the towels thick and fluffy. The breakfast was plentiful and well cooked and was a mixture of self serve and hot, cooked to order. It was served promptly.
Review 89:Good central location in Bodmin with free parking. We had an excellent breakfast and were impressed with the view from the restaurant over the well maintained garden.
Review 90:We stayed for one night in early September 2014. We had a double room which was comfortable and of a good size with an en suite all of which was clean and functioning. The breakfast was excellent, we both had scrambled egg which was particularly good. The service at breakfast was very efficient, we were never waiting for anything to arrive. The waitress was very pleasant, helpful and friendly. Overall, this hotel is very good value for money.
Review 91:I suspect that the extension was built to modern day 'domestic' standards. Consequently we could hear people coming in and moving around. Heavier gauge materials would have helped.
Review 92:Very welcoming with an excellent menu. Food was plentiful, varied and so tasty. Good facilities, easy access and friendly staff.
Review 93:Noise from the kitchen under our room and much noise from the car park which our room faced onto. Could not leave window open due to car fumes coming in.
Review 94:Rooms were light and clean, towels changed regularly and plenty of milk for in room tea etc. The owner could not have been more helpful when we had to leave early due to not feeling well. Refunded the last two days cash, no problem. Aways the sign of a good establishment.
Review 95:Friendly, helpful & attentive staff; superb dining experience (both evening dinner & breakfast); excellent room. Could not have wished for more.
Review 96:We had been to a funeral &wanted a snack, kitchen closed at 8pm,only crisps or nuts on offer, also on arrival had to carry own bag up,gentleman showing us to room didn't even offer although he wasvery nice.
Review 97:Ideal central location, good budget hotel, very clean and comfortable, breakfast okay, staff very pleasant. Shower was one of the best ever, linen and towels excellent, better than some 4 star's we'vestayed in.
Review 98:Our twin bedded room was rather small and dated. There was some noise from outside and from adjacent rooms and also the bathroom fan which was associated with the light was extremely loud which I found irritating.
Review 99:Delicious food at breakfast time and also in the restaurant in the evenings. Attentive, efficient service from the staff. Selection of newspapers in the bar which were available to read at breakfast time. Pleasant garden with seating for guests to use in fine weather. Floral arrangements in the reception area and restaurant were a nice touch.. Towels and sheets in the bedroom were changed frequently and hot water was available at all times. We occupied a ground floor room as requested.
Review 100:Poor noise insulation in annex, could hear conversation and snoring from room below.
Review 101:Good location. excellent breakfast. good sized comfortable room. free wifi. freindly helpful staff.
Review 102:Very clean, excellent bedroom with a four poster bed and large on suite. Excellant cooked breakfast and very friendly staff. Would definatley recommend it
Review 103:Poor noise insulation between rooms in the annex, could easily hear converstion and snoring of people in room below.
Review 104:Convienient location, freindly & helpful staff, clean comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast.
Review 105:Loud neighbours and outside smokers at pub next door 1AM spoilt what should have been an otherwise good stop over. In fairness neither were the fault of hotel
Review 106:Easy to find, free parking, spacious and exelent breakfast menue.
Review 107:There was nothing not to like
Review 108:The staff, amenities and staff were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were made to feel special and I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definitely stay there again.
Review 109:I was disappointed to find that there wasn't a games room as advertised when I booked.
Review 110:Everything was satisfactory, room was neat and serviced daily, all in all was clean and comfortable.
Review 111:Lack of detail in relation to the bedroom. No paper tissues or note paper. Noisey bed spring. Shower screen did not fit over the edge of the bath. Had to ask for shower shampoo after one night. Didn't bother for the third night stay.
Review 112:The breakfast room
Review 113:Not a place for a special treat or if you want to spoil yourself but if your just looking for a bed for the night it's fine. Clean, in the centre of town.
Review 114:I cant really say there was anything we didnt like, i know some other revues say it was a bit dated, but i think that only really applies to Bedrooms, but they were clean and comfortable.
Review 115:Staff very friendly, and obliging. Comfortable bar and restaurant area. We were in a lovely room 4 poster big bathroom. We have stayed before and would stay again, very good value for money. I did look at B&Bs but they were a lot more expensive, very good value for money.
Review 116:We were attending a wedding so the location was ideal for us. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also very nice.
Review 117:Being told by the gent on reception that there were staffing issues due to it being sunny. Waitress dropping cutlery on the floor then continuing to place that item of cutlery on the table she was setting up. TV remote was very grubby and could do with a clean.
Review 118:The size of the bathroom. Very nice breakfast and just the right size portion.
Review 119:Pets allowed in the bedrooms Beds not very comfortable Bathroom very small
Review 120:Location central to the town Breakfast included in the price Bedroom good size Tea/coffee in the room Excellent value Free wifi
Review 121:A fridge in our room would have been nice, but we managed without it. The hotel became a little over-crowded at dinner time due to its popularity.
Review 122:Having chosen Westberry Hotel partially on price and partially for its central location, we expected to have to compromise on a few things. This proved to be unnecessary. The hotel was very comfortable and had everything we needed for our six night stay. Staff were efficient and friendly. Our room was extremely well serviced. The included breakfast was the best we have ever had.
Review 123:Parking access a bit hairy for large cars. Rooms are stuffy in warm weather and a fan would have been very welcome.
Review 124:Good location to tour the northern part of Cornwall including the Eden Project. Close to the Centre of Bodmin Service good. Food (Breakfast and Evening Meals) great!
Review 125:Although parking available can be very tight especially when functions on
Review 126:Rooms and bathroom very clean , staff friendly and helpful Free wi-fi Good value for money
Review 127:friendly helpful staff , nice clean room and excellent breakfast. really lovely choice for breakfast lots of choice. good parking and nice that bottled water was provided in the room.Would definitely recommend as a great stop over.
Review 128:Everything
Review 129:Restaurant expensive
Review 130:Quiet
Review 131:the staff very smart .the breakfast very nice .good price for the b@b
Review 132:We have always found this hotel to be clean & convenient with helpful staff. Thai restaurant provides good food at reasonable prices.
Review 133:Breakfast was lovely service perfect and staff who served us was lovely
