Reviews for The Roundabout Hotel
Review 1:A great place to stay ...the staff were really friendly and helpful during our stay ... Lovely cooked breakfast in the morning ...only downful was sharing the room with my kids and only having the one bathroom for 5 ...but it was only for one night ..would recommend this hotel and Definitely would go back again xx
Review 2:The bathroom was very tight, the decor was very low budget. The shower it's self was a nice shower but I'm not a big person but I thought there was a high chance of falling through the bath floor.
Review 3:Best thing about this was the location and the breakfast was superb. Also it seems like a really nice pub too with nice locals.
Review 4:The open fire, the Choice of good quality meals and the very friendly staff. The room we were in was a family room and very nice, however, the room my elderly parents were in was very cramped.
Review 5:I didnt like sitting in the restaurant having a lovely meal listening to the foul language coming from the bar area, they didnt stop all night even when iI took my wife for a drink. My advice put a door where the curtain is,it wont stop it but your guests wont hear it.
Review 6:the staff were courteous and helpful
Review 7:We had two single beds pushed together to make one which was a bit uncomfortable and unfortunately had some very noises people in the room next to us who kept us up until gone 2am.
Review 8:The staff were lovely and friendly and the breakfast was amazing the next morning.
Review 9:The quality of the materials, fittings, and importantly the finish, used in the conversion/ renovation of the building was poor. Corners in the bathroom were grubby, and there was a lingering and unpleasant/stale smell.
Review 10:Staff made every effort to facilitate a comfortable stay. Bed linen was clean, towels replaced every day, and the bath/bathroom cleaned. Everyone was very helpfull.
Review 11:The car park is a bit tight!
Review 12:The staff where fab, nothing was too much trouble despite being very busy with the bar and restaurant as well as manning the hotel reception desk. The breakfast was scrummy and dinners very tasty. Our room was lovely and clean with a bath which was great for getting our three year old squeaky clean. The location is fab for either Gosport or Portsmouth and very close to two supermarkets. Thanks Roundabout Hotel!
Review 13:nothing I could not fault them
Review 14:Staff were excellent very welcoming made such an effort customer service was excellent could not asked for anything more great breakfast
Review 15:room needed TLC, some lights didn't work, bathroom needed repairs, towels wearing thin.
Review 16:Very polite staff, eager to help. Room/Bathroom clean.
Review 17:Room number 1 was smelt of damp and drains. The bathroom walls were covered in panels that had seen better days. When I complained (before I unpacked) the thoughtful staff showed me room 22. It was smelly (the same panels and smell as room 1), dirty radiator (rust/ mould) and a crack in the bedroom wall. I would not have felt clean if I had spent a night in the building.
Review 18:The staff were very pleasant and understood the complaints I had completely. They offered to provide a list of good clean accommodation venues without my having to request. I got the impression they were used to the reaction I had to the disgusting room conditions. Very thoughtful staff. Even apologised that they couldn't refund the current day's stay as it was after cancellation time.
Review 19:Coffee at breakfast was veryweak & luke warm couldn't buy filtered , bedroom had previouse occupany rubbish left in bedroom & info file was very dirty needs a wipe . Breakfast wasn't as nice as when we stayed at plymouth b&b and was £10 cheaper for 1 night.
Review 20:Unfortunately, due to being handicapped, which, with hindsight I should have perhaps pointed out when we booked, the whole experience for me was a nightmare. We also had a problem at breakfast when the cook failed to follow a basic simple instruction to provide hard boiled eggs. This caused a severe delay as my partner had finished his breakfast before mine arrived. the eggs first provided were barely cooked.
Review 21:The male member of staff who we mainly had dealings with was extremely pleasant & helpful
Review 22:I did not like that they saw fit to cancel my room 2 hours prior to my arrival. Obviously got a better offer for the room due to the area being very busy for a festival. I am down on business every month now for the next 2years - will not be attempting to stay here!!
Review 23:Rooms not very clean and poorly decorated. In need of some TLC. Bathroom fan very noisy and smelt of chips! Carpets stained and not fitted.
Review 24:Friendly staff and dog friendly. Bedlinen and towels clean.
Review 25:Ensuite at 24 badly needs refurbishing by replacing basin, bath and shower curtain. It has a bad odour and we believe it is unhealthy and is damaging to the building.
Review 26:Pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 27:room a bit hot, TV position (could not be changed as not on a pullout bracket).
Review 28:nice friendly atmosphere. Beds comfortable and a fan and hairdryer provided.
Review 29:Room next to kitchen extractor, chamber maids a bit keen to get you out the room, no biscuits on hospitality tray. Tired decor could do with a revamp.
Review 30:Only there for 1night so it served the purpose. Loved the new forest and comfy bed. Good breakfast too.
Review 31:My only complaint was the fact that as a stranger to the area I found the not as well sign posted as it could be.Maybe signs on the approaching roadsides would be better.
Review 32:Overall it was a comfortable stay with very pleasant staff. As we only stayed the one night I suppose I only had a fleeting glimpse so I can't comment too much.I'd recommend it as I stopover.
Review 33:Could of had fluffier pillows. More a preference than a dislike I think.
Review 34:Staff were very helpful and hospitable. Especially a young lady called April (I believe who worked the evening) she was happy and very helpful. She set up our morning table the night before with a high chair for our daughter.
Review 35:The bedside lamps need a bit of attention - room no 3.
Review 36:The breakfast was very good - especially the bacon and poached eggs. The bed was very big, clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 37:Found the bedroom to be a little small. The ensuite was very cramped.would only stop for one or two nights, for these reasons.
Review 38:The staff were excellent, friendly and knowledgable about the hotel and area. The breakfast was well presented and extremely tasty. Would stay and eat ther again.
Review 39:The property was obviously very nice when it was done up some 20 years ago but no money has been spent on it since. Old, tired, scruffy and equipped with cheap furniture, uncomfortable beds, worn out carpets and faded décor.
Review 40:Great staff, good food which was reasonably priced. Easy access from the motorway.
Review 41:Easy to find, and ideal for using the ferry port. Staff were great - very helpful and friendly - they provided packed food when I had to leave early before breakfast. Good menu, and good value. Would definitely use again.
Review 42:Staff promised us sandwiches for breakfast as we had to leave early, nothing arrived. Room was extremely basic and en-suite was old and not that clean.
Review 43:On site car parking...that's about it.
Review 44:Wi-fi didnt work in our room, probably cos we were located on top floor in the roof. But that didn't ruin our stay the slightest. The only bad part of our stay at this hotel was the weather, which of course couldn't be helped.
Review 45:Family bedroom was very nice, spacious, clean, absolutely fine. Amazing building with many floors and rooms and turnings, stunning. Staff were friendly. Evening dinner was absolutely amazing! Fresh, delicious, hot, the best in a very long time! Morning breakfast was also perfect. Every thing was brilliant at this hotel. Highly recommended.
Review 46:A little tired and 'frayed at the edges',needs a revamp
Review 47:Very helpful staff,comfortable bed,good shower,excellent breakfast,convenient location for Portsmouth ferry
Review 48:Very cramped bathroom & showering facilities,my bedroom was to the front despite secondary glazing there was quite a lot of traffic noise with the location being on a busy road junction.
Review 49:Easy to find,a simple clean local hotelgood breakfast.
Review 50:Bathroom very cramped and nowhere to put anything other than a corner on the floor. Generally quite tired in decor and although bed comfortable, it was noisy. TV worked for 10 minutes and then the signal dropped out completely.
Review 51:Staff were very friendly and the downstairs areas for dining and the bar were very good - breakfast was excellent! The whole place needs a bit of upgrading and tlc; not quite to the standard we have become used to expecting.
Review 52:The hotel is a little shabby and could do with a coat of paint. Minor details like badly fitting carpets, dust behind radiators and on window sills need attention. Bathroom was fine if you are a size 0 but too small for us!
Review 53:Staff were always smiling and very helpful. Breakfast and dinner were superb.
Review 54:Everything , the building is in very poor order and is in need of a total refurbishment. Its just not up to the basic standards required in this day and age.
Review 55:The bitter sold in the bar
Review 56:I complained after the first night that the toilet in our en suite was leaking and the noise has kept me awake. I was told it had been fixed but when I returned very late that day it was still leaking. The breakfast on the second day was poor. The waiter said he hated going back and forth to the coffee machine so we were given very weak coffee from a jug. The mushrooms had been thrown in the deep fat fryer and tasted of grease. As a whole the hotel needs a good spruce up.
Review 57:The bar staff on the first night were friendly
Review 58:One of the twin beds was partially collapsed; Bad, even dangerous, electrics; Carpets worn and rucked; Filthy shower surround; Overall not good value for money.
Review 59:Bed was uncomfortable and every time you moved the springs dug in. Room was very small with no space for suitcases.
Review 60:It was clean and the staff were friendly.
Review 61:Accommodation was a bit dated and in need of some maintenance eg loose door handles, toilet plush loose and broken. Limited parking.
Review 62:Cooked breakfast was very good. Staff very friendly.
Review 63:Decor a little dated maybe could do with a refurbish but it did not distract from an overall positive experience for our stay .
Review 64:Good location plus friendly staff . Free car parking .
Review 65:The hotel smelled heavily of bleach the staff seemed disinterested in us, shortly after our arrival our daughter became ill and we had to leave early without any concern from the staff. the bed was without doubt the worst that I have ever tried to sleep in and the carpet had iron burns. and really! the tv was fixed to a wall facing away from the bed!! totally un watchable.in room 11.
Review 66:nothing
Review 67:The room was very small with small window in corner. It was extremely hot so with the window open we were kept awake by the fans and generators outside our room! Put off by the iron grating at reception-felt as though they expected trouble!
Review 68:Clean room with comfortable bed.
Review 69:I thought I was getting room 21 as told previously on the phone. We ended up with what I can only call a rabbit Warren. Room 9. Then changed to room 22 and eventually room 4 which really was no better. I explained this was too small as I was travelling with 3 children. 5 years 3 years and a 10 week old baby. Nothing could be done as the hotel was fully booked.
Review 70:Food and staff were lovely. Very polite and friendly.
Review 71:The bathrokm was poor, loose toilet seat, sink tap rotated whdn turndd on and shower head fell apart. Shower soaked the floor every time we tokk a shower. Decor of rokm left a lot to bd desired.
Review 72:Good location, central to evefything and food is very good.
Review 73:1)Finding dark hair in the bed when I am blonde2)Shower curtain that is badly discoloured and unusable, so no shower facility 3) TV was broken. After reported to reception, and two hours later 11pm, two men decided to arrive in the bedroom to replace the TV - I was dressed for bed 4) Sink was leaking badly from underneth, so I was standing in a puddle whilst cleaning my teeth. 5) Vegetarian breakfast option, as told by staff "same as normal but with the meat taken off" 6) PROMISED RATE REDUCTION WAS NOT TAKEN OFF ON DEPARTURE - NO MANAGEMENT WAS AVAILABLE - STILL AWAITING A PROMISED PHONE CALL AND PROMISED REFUND (Room 24)
Review 74:Leaving the hotel
Review 75:I stayed in room 7. Bathroom had a water leakage , windows were not getting completely shut & hotel staff agreed to the noise problem...but still they did not made any other arrangement (they cant expect me to go out at 10pm and find another room)..they did not even had basic options like hash browns for breakfast.
Review 76:nothing to like in the hotel.
Review 77:The rooms are tired, frayed around the edges and, in need of some investment. I'm not sure that I would have stayed more than 1 night.
Review 78:Everything we liked, was downstairs. The food, the staff, the bar. Nice crisp clean bed linen though, it must be said.
Review 79:dreary decor (old and tatty), mould in the bathroom and very poor maintenance of appliances (loose tap, continually filling wc etc)
Review 80:nothing to recommend or make me go back unless it really was a last resort for a bed for the night)
Review 81:Unfortunately the bed was uncomfortable and although the bathroom was very clean the room itself had cobwebs all over the ceiling and coving. Generally it was a little tired looking.
Review 82:The staff were excellent, very helpful and always smiling. Breakfast was good.
Review 83:Parking was quite tight, not many spaces, free though. Had to buy food and drink for cashback, then charged £1.
Review 84:Location, it was easy to get to, right by the motorway exit but not at all noisy.
Review 85:Being served Earl Grey tea, which I do not like, stewed, not fresh either and being told there wasn't any other choice so had to have coffee. Yet in my room was 'Everyday' tea, then being poured only a third of cup of coffee by waitress so had to call her back to top up. Carpet needed a steam clean & bathroom too small.
Review 86:Comfortable bed, good shower, good choice for breakfast and perfect poached eggs on toast. Reception staff welcoming and friendly.
Review 87:no hot water in the morning. no proactive message from staff. Only received a "sorry" when I raised it at checkout, no other response received.
Review 88:Hotel very tired looking in need of some tlc. In bathroom, glass shelf needed securing to wall - unusable. Shower head rail also needed to be secured. Pedal bin - pedal didn't work. Door handle unsafe. Toilet seat loose. In bedroom area, left hand light next to mirror not secured to wall. Dirty coffee cup on arrival.
Review 89:The bed and the breakfast
Review 90:Our room was at the back of the hotel so we had no noise at all from the proximity to the roundabout, possibly get noise if you at the front though. Although the hotel is clean I personally think it needs a bit of upgrading its a tad old fashioned in some areas, thick layers of paint on the banisters and doors making them feel sticky and a bit dark in places but nothing thats enough to put us off staying here again.
Review 91:Location of hotel suited our needs 100%. arrived at 10pm staff where very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast times where good and although not an extensive menu it served its purpose for us. There are plenty of snacking options and main meals sounded really good although we did not have a main meal.
Review 92:Very dated decor in rooms, maintenance slipping, bathroom fixtures corroding and shower pipe split.
Review 93:Good price, location, nice pub, good food, warm welcome
Review 94:Parking a bit tight, but might have been time we arrived when bar full of customers.
Review 95:Nice local location for our visit. Comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Very pet friendly!
Review 96:I had said that one of our party was disabled - there was no lift and no rooms on the ground flirt but was assured that there was only one flight of stairs - if you count going up one set of stairs and then another as one flight then ok. The bathroom was absolutely tiny and useless for anyone with a disability - we had to put the spare quilt on the floor for mum to stand on so that she could get into the bath!
Review 97:The staff were pleasant. There was a TV in the room.
Review 98:The bar was a bit small, not allowing for "me space".
Review 99:Although situated right on a roundabout there was little intrusive noise, and this allowed us to walk and cycle from a hub point. Amenities (golf course and pubs) were close by.
Review 100:Rooms were big enough and generally quite clean. Bathroom was in need of maintenance as it looked her rally scruffy and tired.
Review 101:Staff were very friendly. Food was good and plenty of it.
Review 102:Paid for a meal on the evening it wasn't, very good. Paid extra for a la carte which wasn't expensive but focused on quantity rather than quality.
Review 103:Staff were nice and friendly and helpful
Review 104:The bathroom facilities in Room No. 24 were not really up to standard. The washbasin did not seem to be very secure and there was no shelf to accommodate toothbrushes and other toiletries. Also there were no chairs in the room.
Review 105:The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was very good
Review 106:The staff are excellent. Really friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The name suggests this hotel is on a roundabout so don't expect it to be silent! But the staff are more than willing to oblige with a room away from traffic if you ask.
Review 107:The TV in the room could have been better positioned for all to watch.
Review 108:Easy to find. Staff were excellent & very friendly. Room & en suite were very clean, plus beds were very comfy. Had a great night sleep. Breakfast was delicious & freshly cooked. We couldn't have booked a better hotel in the area. Would certainly come again & recommend it for any type of family. Thank you.
Review 109:A bit close to the roundabout hence noisy but if you use the fan it blocks out the traffic as I discovered because a member of staff had turned it on.
Review 110:Helpful staff
Review 111:Decor is tired, don't let it put you off though, free wi fi was ok but then it served our needs.
Review 112:Food was very good and fresh cooked, ample portions without being massive. We both had steak one night and it was cooked perfectly. Bedding was clean and so was our room
Review 113:Hotel is tired and a bit grubby in places... Needs some TLC, I will not be staying there again Premier Inn or similar much better value for money.
Review 114:Nothing
Review 115:Shower was a little dated/broken and could do with some maintenance.
Review 116:Easy access to and from the motorways and very close to the port terminal. Service at the hotel was wonderful.
Review 117:Sleep disturbed multiple times by noise. Floorboards creak like a Scooby-doo cartoon, lots of banging doors and other assorted unidentified noises at various times of night.
Review 118:Good location, easy walking distance to town centre
Review 119:The food was very good, we had really nice breakfasts, and had a bar snack in the evening which was very nice and was more than enough, the staff were very helpful and friendly. our room 23 would benefit from some T.L.C. I.E. rusting radiator in bathroom, sink taps, plug hole, and a freshen up with a lick of paint.
Review 120:Room was to small for the size of the bed and the bedside lights where very poor falling to pieces
Review 121:The inclusive breakfast was very good and the service was good nice atmosphere
Review 122:The bathroom was small and there was nowhere to hang towels other than a very small rail above the radiator. Nowhere to put toilet bags either so a hook on the door would be useful.
Review 123:Huge comfortable bed with lovely linen. Clean towels every day. Excellent breakfast with good service and 8 of us in a group all getting our orders served at the same time.
Review 124:Uninspired menu with nothing fresh or green. I watched 6 guests being individually moved to tables of 1 to save the waitress table tidying. There was no one available at checkout time.
Review 125:Convenient location and clean rooms.
Review 126:Bathroom of room 24 was badly designed and fitted. The sink was modern but nowhere to put soap, etc.
Review 127:Staff very friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean. They also stock my tipple. (WOOD's Rum).
Review 128:We went to have lunch on the Sunday, and after eating in the restaurantSaturday night and Sunday morning, we were told by a rude male member ofstaff that our dog was not allowed in the restaurant due to it beingpart of the hygiene law? My daughter is a chef and it is only illegal tohave dogs in a food preparation area. Why did we get two differenttreatments on two different days. This is not a dog friendly hotel ifthey are going to choose when they would like dogs around!!!
Review 129:The food was lovely
Review 130:We went to have lunch and the Sunday, and after eating in the restaurantSaturday night and Sunday morning, we were told by a rude male member ofstaff that our dog was not allowed in the restaurant due to it beingpart of the hygiene law? Review 131:When we arrived on the Saturday the staff were friendly and helpful andloved our staffie!
Review 132:The only thing I would say is that the bathrooms are very small and it is nearly impossible to have a wash without drowning the floor!
Review 133:The hotel is friendly with a busy pub on the ground floor. We have stayed here on two occasions and have always enjoyed it.
Review 134:Rooms need redecorating and bathroom sinks made bigger, also rooms need to be checked more for the cleanliness.
Review 135:The staff very friendly and the food was EXCELLENT
Review 136:The 'cooked' breakfast was excellent, but little or no choice of continental style laid out.
Review 137:Convenient location, good value hotel with excellent staff, making the most of a very old building. Restaurant good and most helpful assisting a gluten free diet.
Review 138:The room needed updating in decor make it look and feel fresh. Hotel have to change chrome towel shelving in bathroom as fresh clean towels placed on a 85% rusted towel shelving( (go plastic for health & safety Hygiene).
Review 139:Great atmosphere the staff where fantastic especially Chris he made my family laugh so much anything we needed Chris was their. Menu had a good selection of food
Review 140:Noisy group in oher rooms. singing, drinking, running around, banging doors up until 3 am ... unable to rest ... warned management by 1.30am ... nothing happenned ... very bad experience!
