Reviews for The Rothesay

Review 1:Shame the pool was closed but not clearly advertised as such. The pool was the main reason we booked it!

Review 2:Close proximity to the coast. Excellent breakfast.

Review 3:No wi fi or television reception, no Telephone in room, not possible to order breakfast as only one caretaker Staff was on site as owners were away on holiday

Review 4:Cleanliness, Bathroom/shower

Review 5:Not good internet connection ( but not the fault of The Rothesay) Towels not changed in 3 nights; perhaps we should have left them on the floor rather than tidy up. Not a major deal...we could have said something.

Review 6:Very good facilities. Very comfortable. Very easy going atmosphere. Lots of good communal space.

Review 7:The car park was very full in the morning so a bit tricky getting away but this was because there was a swimming club on when I was leaving.

Review 8:Everything was ready on my arrival and I had a very pleasant stay. Many thanks to the helpful staff.

Review 9:The Rothesay is a very upmarket Bed and Breakfast, very clean and comfortable. Its very well furnished in what has come to be called a Boutique style. Easy and free parking and good wifi.

Review 10:I liked the option to use the swimming pool and sauna, unfortunately because I was working, I didn’t have time to try them, maybe next time. My room was upgraded which was very pleasant.

Review 11:The convenience of The Rothesay in relation to a function we were attending locally - the service we received on arrival - the very pleasant breakfast, and the outlook from the dining room.

Review 12:Very disappointed with the size of the room, very small as with the ensuite and wash basin, ideal for washing hands only! The ensuite needs some TLC! The room we had is positioned at the end of the courtyard. The courtyard is unlit so not easy to see at night! I thought the price included breakfast (B&B) but no, had to pay extra! On arrival, I paid cash for the B&B. When I asked for a receipt, was told receipts are not given, the key to the room being proof of payment!!! I insisted on a receipt and was told, Michael would do so at breakfast, which he did. On checking the receipt, turned out to be an invoice!!!

Review 13:We both enjoyed the breakfast. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked well.

Review 14:The room was a bit small but had every thing that was needed.

Review 15:Lovely friendly place to stay. Swimming pool was great. Very close to Highcliffe castle, and the beach, also Harry Selfridges is buried there near his wife and mother, St Marks church is very interesting.

Review 16:Not a bad experience just an observation little jobs need finishing in room, but as I said not a bad experience because we had a wonderful time

Review 17:Dee & Micheal were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was lovely and the pool nice and warm.

Review 18:Gary and i would like to thank Dee and Michael for welcoming us to their beautiful hotel.Nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely so was the breakfast. We loved every minute staying at the rothersay. We made use of the pool and sauna both were a real treat and added to the luxury of the place. We were that happy with everything we didnt want to leave so we booked again before we left for next month ! Cant wait to go back. Thank you again for a lovely stay. Debbie and Gary

Review 19:Very friendly hosts. Excellent breakfast. Well maintained and had great facilities. Very well situated with excellent restaurants within walking distance. Wonderful walks and great sights right next door. Really enjoyed the stay.

Review 20:The pool was not accessible unless you wanted to be watched by work men.

Review 21:We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. Breakfast was excellent having a wide variety. Restaurants and pubs in walking distance. The beach was a 5 minute walk, the new forest a 10 minute walk.

Review 22:The swimming pool was having building work done and we would've like to have been informed of this beforehand. A detachable shower head would have been preferable to the fixed overhead one.

Review 23:Lovely comfortable bed, nice fluffy towels and a good breakfast.

Review 24:I would have preferred an earlier breakfast. 8 am is too late for me. The location is a little far out of town for convenience.

Review 25:Excellent breakfast

Review 26:Lovely choice of breakfast. Michael was so helpful with advice on somewhere to eat that was close and handy for me being a single woman on business. Clean and comfortable I slept really well.

Review 27:Excellent location for our purpose good parking, comfortable room with good seating for two. Great pub restaurant on our doorstep would recommend to others.

Review 28:N/A

Review 29:Very attentive staff. Made to feel very welcome, nothing was to much trouble. Excellent location. Would definately recomend to friends and family

Review 30:The Rothesay provided us with a great base from which to enjoy our 3 day visit to the surrounding areas. We had a very clean and comfortable room, hosts were smashing people, breakfast was good and filling and we even managed to fit in a relaxing swim. Enjoyed it all !

Review 31:I had a small single, which was a bit tired and the shower head could have done with being replaced BUT the price reflected it - this room was much cheaper than others and I was only stopping over so it was fine

Review 32:Lovely, personal welcome Great suggestions for eating nearby Nice to have a pool

Review 33:Strong smell of chlorine in reception. Constant stream of children for swimming lessons. Unable to use swimming pool or sauna easily.

Review 34:Good location, pleasant owner with good restaurant recommendations. Comfy bed

Review 35:The en-suite facilities were a little on the small side.

Review 36:A tastefully decorated and furnished property, well located between Christchurch and Highcliffe with adequate parking and within easy walking distance of Highcliffe Castle and beach. We enjoyed the pool facilities, excellent breakfasts, and a quiet room adjacent to the patio area

Review 37:We didn't notice the check in times. However it was resolved over a phone call.

Review 38:Little touches like mints and minicab details on the reception. Also liked the hot water bottles provided.

Review 39:The main house has been modernised and renovated. I asked for a ground floor room and we were put in an outside building. Room was small but comfortable bed and warm. Bathroom was a desaster, tiny handwash basin which leaked, bathroom very small and dark, no mirror above wash- basin or shelves to put anything. We had puddles on the floor. I would advise future guests to ask for a room in the main building.

Review 40:Nr. beach, carpark, friendly atmosphere, good breakfast.

Review 41:A very cosy B&B, perfectly located for a nice weekend away. There's the New Forest nearby for lovely walks or all day cycle trips and the beach/sea around the corner! The owners at The Rothesay are friendly, helpful and keen to give information about activities around the neighbourhood. And there's a warm indoor pool for guests to use!

Review 42:Nothing

Review 43:Loved the welcome and the helpfulness without any sense of intrusion. Range of teas & other drinks in the room was impressive. Lights/shower/tv easy to operate. Lovely breakfast and nice private swim! I liked it so much that I will return with my husband, and stay a bit longer.

Review 44:The hotel was very welcoming, the owners went out of their way to make sure our stay was very pleasant, food was excellent and accommodation. We will definitely stay again. It was ideally placed to see sights in the area.

Review 45:Welcome tray of tea after a long car journey. Clean comfortable well appointed room. Efficient Shower. Attitude of owners. Breakfast. Brilliant location for Coast and New Forest. Price

Review 46:The whole property is in need of a lot of TLC. Seems obvious repairs haven't been done for some time which is a shame as it could be luxury. Bathroom so narrow you had to open the door to clean your teeth.

Review 47:Michael and Dee were very welcoming and helpful. The decor is stylish.

Review 48:Well presented accommodation, hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and let us check in early as we were attending a wedding in the afternoon. Very approachable and helped us with directions to the wedding venue.

Review 49:I felt sure from my research that The Rothsay was a good choice. We were not disappointed. Dee and Michael made us feel very welcome. Rooms were clean & bright, good selection for breakfast which was beautifully cooked.

Review 50:Lovely place. Lovely location. The Rothersy is a five minute walk from the coast and five minutes away from some local restaurants. The owners of the Rothersy were very welcoming and made our stay very relaxing.

Review 51:The Rothesay was in a perfect location for a wedding I was attending at Highcliffe Castle. It was also a short walking distance from the beach and the nearby village. Dee and Michael were very welcoming, the breakfast was very tasty and the bed was very comfortable!

Review 52:No problems, but forgot about the swimming pool, so missed out onthat option.

Review 53:There was a teapot in the room. Full English Breakfast was very nice, with fried or scrambled egg as an option. Bed (memory foam) was verycomfortable and clean. We were given fresh milk on request. Nice lookingindoorpool kept at a good temperature as classes are held there. Veryobliging and friendly staff.

Review 54:Wifi didn't work in room, but did I other areas: we didn't need it so didn't complain. We were on holiday not business.

Review 55:Great people, attentive and courteous. Room was fab, swimming pool is smalll compared to some but is a real bonus. Breakfast was brill.

Review 56:Car parking is limited and difficult at times with clients from the hotels swimming club. Noise in the evening from the accommodation above because of squeaking wooden floor boards/joists and inadequate sound insulation.

Review 57:Friendly people, good food and nice surroundings

Review 58:Very noisy throughout day with children using the pool. Pool was not available any time during the day as swimming lessons to out side people was continual. Breakfast average not a lot of choice of alternatives to full English, limited on choice of fruits.

Review 59:Friendly owners. Excellent breakfast. Spacious comfortable room with attractive décor and tea/coffee making facility. There is no bar but there is a sitting out area,

Review 60:En-suite very small. Shower poor, more water leaking from head than what came out to shower under. Cold shower on 1st evening, but was soon corrected by hosts. Pool can only be used at certain times as it is used for baby/child swimming lessons.

Review 61:Location, hosts & breakfast were great. Room spacious.

Review 62:The room we had was great for one night but we would require something larger for a longer stay. The en-suite was similarly too bijou for a longer stay. The next door neighbours were a bit noisy!

Review 63:Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Room and hotel in general were very clean, modern and tastefully decorated.

Review 64:All aspects of the property suited me perfectly. The staff were unobtrusive but were there when needed. I had a very comfortable stay and had no complaints of any kind.

Review 65:not much to dislike just a few suggestions would be nice we were in room 10 and needed more lights under the beam where the dressing table is difficult to see and maybe shelve in shower for showers gels etc.Nothing major but would help.

Review 66:Nice facilities and nice staff

Review 67:A well appointed bed and breakfast. The owners were very relaxed and friendly which provided that personal touch. The room was decorated to a high standard, and was very comfortable. The shower room was very small and if made bigger it would make this a perfect room. We would definitely go back and would and have recommended The Rothesay to anyone wanting a short stay in the area.

Review 68:Had a wonderful one night stay, room was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom again was very clean. Breakfast was again very good and plentiful and every body there were very helpful,if I were visiting this part of the country again I would definitely stay here again

Review 69:Stayed here as I was attending a wedding at Sopley mill. Location was very good for that purpose, Staff was very welcoming, didn't use all the facilities (sauna, swimming )focus was on the wedding. basically just slept and had breakfast

Review 70:Wi-fi signal was poor - not helped by the appalling weather

Review 71:The room was pure luxury !! It was farsuperior to many hotels we have stayed in - thank you for making us feel so welcome

Review 72:The long windows in the room being a goldfish bowl . But fine with the curtains closed and the four poster bed, Needed the four poster bed drapes to complete the setting however

Review 73:The breakfast

Review 74:Honestly. No bad experiences

Review 75:Very friendly couple who run the establishment. Rooms & Breakfast were of a very high standard. Really enjoyed my stay

Review 76:A little expensive.

Review 77:We love everything about this beautifully modernised hotel. The breakfast is excellent, the room charming and the owners friendly and welcoming.

Review 78:Had outside rooms. Sound from neighbouring rooms travels too readily so late night noise a disturbance.

Review 79:Pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast consistently well cooked and presented.

Review 80:The pole of the bed was in the way of viewing the tele. We didn't get new towles so had to use wet towles, we also didn't get more toliet paper. The shower head was a little weak.

Review 81:The room theme was lovely and I loved the courtyard area

Review 82:Couldn't connect to the wifi but gave up trying after a few minutes.

Review 83:I changed rooms after requesting an additional nights stay and found both rooms very clean and comfortable. Facilities are very good and breakfast was superb. I would definitely stay at the Rothesay again.

Review 84:The general approach to property maintenance was severely lacking with several small issues in the bedrooms requiring attention.

Review 85:The location is excellent and the approach to the property very attractive. The public rooms were superior in this regard.

Review 86:The bathroom was showing very obvious signs of wear & tear (incl. toilet flusher button, part missing; shaving light light switch rope needs to be pulled & tied behind wall fitting, otherwise it does not switch off.

Review 87:Location & overall appearance of the hotel. Really comfortable bed.

Review 88:Three dogs let out & could see them going to toilet while having your breakfast. The room was cold but had a hot water bottle & heater. Bathroom had a cracked basin & had to keep the blinds closed as people could see in from garden.

Review 89:Location & indoor pool. Parking off road.

Review 90:Bathroom was poor for what was described as a superior room. Bed very soft and squeaky and unfortunately a squashed fly on the sheet. Pool looked nice but was closed 3.30 until 7.00 pm so didn't get chance to it.

Review 91:Good location to walk to beach and Highcliffe Castle. Large car park. Very nice to be offered tea when we arrived. Breakfast was good.

Review 92:Having to pay extra on arrival because despite specifying 2 persons will be staying in my search parameters, booking.com gave me a single occupancy room which came with a cheaper price tag. It was not evident that I had booked for one person until after the booking was complete and at no point was I informed the room was going to be more expensive than first advertised.

Review 93:Location, convenience, the pool.

Review 94:Without restaurant

Review 95:We really enjoy the modern Rosethay Suite and the warm swimming pool. Everything was very clean. It was so nice to be near the sea by foot.

Review 96:Fabulous location so convenient for local attractions and a short walk to the beach. Dee and Michael were excellent welcoming hosts, good facilities and excellent breakfast.

Review 97:A small thing to mention was the kettle did not fit under the tap filling the kettle had to be done with a glass, the toilet seat was also split coups have been painful

Review 98:Delightful room very comfortable would like to know where we could purchase the pillows my husband really liked them Would book again if coming to the area lovely to have been treated with a complementary tea and coffee

Review 99:Very well appointed rooms, Wi-Fi, TV and excellent English breakfast. Location to South Coast areas of interest. Forest Spice Indian restaurant worth a visit for excellent dining.

Review 100:My only tiny, tiny issue was the wifi only connected 10% of the time. We didn't stay there for the internet though but with everyone these days finding it essential it might be improved with a few wifi boosters dotted about, especially if yours is a business stay.

Review 101:Location, helpfulness & friendliness of staff was great. Breakfast was varied & tasty. Only a short drive to so many scenic attractions. Room was nice & I had an iron & ironing board within a minute of my request for one. The best thing I can say is we'd definitely stay again!

Review 102:Screaming toddlers running around on terrace as the owners conducts swimming lessons in small indoor pool so no chance of using it. Outdoor space needed attention - filled ashtrays, dusty & musty cushions on seats, needed sweeping & cleaning. Poor choice at breakfast, one choice of eggs, no veggie option.

Review 103:location on the coast and the small outdoor space

Review 104:unfortunately i checked in a bit late, but the staff were more than accomodating to this and nothing was too much. Breakfast was nice, I will put this on my list of places to stay again.

Review 105:nothing was too much trouble for michael and dee, any questions were easily answered, our room was great kingsize four poster decorated to a high standard exceptional cleanliness overall, loved the decked area where you could sit out and relax, overall great value.

Review 106:Dee and Michael made us feel very welcome and were happy to help with any queries. The room was comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and a large TV. The indoor pool was great for an evening dip

Review 107:Standard Room was a little cramped. Needed less furniture. Unnecessary Chaise longues and huge TV ( would have been better half the size). Small dressing table on raised area which served no purpose. No available surfaces to put anything on eg. Makeup, toiletries etc. Bedside lamps very attractive but no good for reading

Review 108:brilliant location and facilities very good. Nice and Clean. Particularly liked the outside seating area.

Review 109:First class, it's the first time I've been offered free coffee and biscuits on arrival whilst they get your details sorted. I would certainly recommend this accommodation. Very pleasant and professional.

Review 110:A little disappointed that when we wanted to use swimming pool (late afternoon) it was unavailable as being used by young peoples swimming clubs.

Review 111:Good location. Clean & nicely decorated. Friendly hosts. Good seating area in bedroom.

Review 112:We had a quiet room at the back of the house which had a lovely sofa to sit on which made reading/watching T.V. comfortable. We use our bus passes when on holiday and as there is a bus stop outside the property, it was an easy thing to do. A restaurant 2 properties away offer very good evening meals. The property is easy to find on a busy main road but is set back sufficiently so as not to interfere with guests' peace.

Review 113:Location is great.we had a lovely room with a super comforable bed.large tv plus a digital radio, everything you would need for a pleasant stay. Full english breakfast was a great way to start the day. The owners are very nice and very helpfull .We enjoyed our stay and will be back! Big thankyou.

Review 114:observations; shower room wall mirror set too high, mold on shower ceiling near fan, toilet seat slightly loose, unable to fill kettle at sink, so, used cup. shower cubical door sometime stuck closed, awkward to open from inside.

Review 115:staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 116:Poor shower installation meant that the shower was not functioning at times and very weak when working. Owner admitted he knew about the problem. On the first morning we couldn't shower at all and on three other occasions we had to wait until other people had finished using theirs. Pool is only available when the swim school isn't using it (pre 09:30, after 19:00)

Review 117:Location

Review 118:From our arrival to our departure Michael and Dee were lovely. Never in our faces but always there making us feel comfortable, cosy, welcomed and looked after. When we arrived Michael was there to help and surprised us by upgrading our room (that truly made us feel special and it was such a lovely gift since we got married 3days before!). The place is kept immaculate, with a true family feel: breakfast would always be a fun time especially when we would rush to seat on time and Dee with a cheeky smile would look at the time and tell us we only just made it (we love you Dee

Review 119:The bathroom was onthe small sie, but we ne this before we got there and it was all in good working order.

Review 120:lovely clean room, great for parking, lovely breakfast which was very well presented and owners were exellent hosts.

The Fine Print
