Reviews for Lydiard House Conference Centre

Review 1:Rooms need refurbishing, cracked tiles, dirty round edges in bathroom, stains on walls and cobwebs on ceiling. Also very warm in room in evening then freezing during the night. I had to wear socks and a hooded sweatshirt over my pj's

Review 2:Staff friendly and very informal. Good price. Nice grounds

Review 3:Room 24 below standard in terms of cleanliness, broken pulley blind, cop webs in most corners, receptionist had to swop my duvet over as first one either had blood on or make up. Room next to me or below had tv extremely loud and was very noisy, which I was bemused by as I read tv was set at a maximum and constant dripping from guttering outside my room.

Review 4:The friendly welcome I got when booking in by receptionist. The evening staff and bar staff excellent

Review 5:The look of the hotel in the midle of antique building. Long, too long church bell song. Dark car park Swimming pool area need parfume.

Review 6:Restaurant swimming pool sauna

Review 7:Toilet seat was not fixed to the toilet. No carpet in the coridoor. Cockroach type object stuck within the blind and obviously been there a long time.

Review 8:Checking out on the day of departure.

Review 9:The room was very small and very tired. The bed was up against the wall, wardrobe door doesn't fit, blind was broken, heating regulator didn't work so very hot

Review 10:Friendly staff, good food and location

Review 11:Bell ringing practice right next to hotel for a hour (No where does it tell you this happens), marks over the walls, The bathroom is outdated and needs a re-do

Review 12:Beautiful location, Bed was extremely comfortable

Review 13:You have to re-log on the the WiFi if you switched of the tablet but at least it was free.

Review 14:Good value for the money and quiet, but then there were not many people in the hotel.

Review 15:The rooms were very outdated and the whole place could use some investment to modernise it, you get what you pay for, it was a cheap room and was nothing fancy, the WIFI was also extremely slow.

Review 16:The staff were very friendly, the room was suitably ventilated, clean and comfortable.

Review 17:There was a lot of noise outiside until 1.30am and the window didn't cut any noise out. Also the shower could only do boiling or stone cold, which wasn't ideal.

Review 18:The room rate was very cheap, which was my main reason for staying here

Review 19:difficult to find. the television wasn't working in the room till the second day. the extractor wasn't working in the bathroom.

Review 20:the location & park setting

Review 21:The Telephone and the Television in room is not functioning at all is just need to look at or servicing.

Review 22:The place is not bad, the swimming pool is too cold to swimm, the Room is not what was Advertised, it's far too small.

Review 23:The location could hardly be bettered - just by Lydiard Park and the historic old church . I can't speak too highly of the staff - without exception , they have been friendly , efficient , and obliging to a degree . The chef clearly knows his business - not only was my experience of the bar meals uniformly good , but a delegate to a conference held here praised the catering to the skies .

Review 24:Bathroom needed some updating - swimming pool was very small - no jacuzzi - sauna out of action. Car park was very dark with no directional signs - wasn't sure where to park when I arrived after dark.

Review 25:Room was a decent size - bed was comfy.

Review 26:Where do I start?!! Disgusting rooms with stains up the walls. Pictures of the House are very misleading - YOU DON'T STAY THERE!! You stay in an accommodation block, with tiny dirty rooms. Almost like a hostel.

Review 27:The park where it is situated to lovely

Review 28:Would prefer twin Beds rather than 4ft bed to share,

Review 29:Good location got Swinfon Shopping Outlet, reasonably priced. Good Breakfast, clean hotel & comfortable.

Review 30:Slightly dated, but you can't beat the price and value. Noise of plumbing and sounds from other rooms ocassionally disturb sleep.

Review 31:Friendly and attentive staff. Pool. Beautiful location. Good value for money.

Review 32:Tv turned its of on at 3am two nights in a row despite being'fixed'. Staff seemed to think it was amusing citing a ghost.Cancelled future bookings.

Review 33:The staff were really pleasant and the country park was a great setting! Late arrival time and hasslefree checkout suited us as we had visited Bath Christmas Market until after 8 p.m.

Review 34:The double room with the bed pushed up against the wall made it difficult for getting in and out for the second person. The bed was very uncomfortable, sagging mattress and roll into the middle. It does say accommodation is in a separate block but the website really sells Lydiard house not the rooms. Difficult to get a parking space near accommodation as car park was used by general public visiting the park. The view from the bedroom was of the septic tank and graveyard!

Review 35:Breakfast was very good and value for money even at £7.50. Good choice of food and very pleasant staff.

Review 36:The price we paid £45 a night for a couple. No breakfast included was a little steep as room was very small, and bathroom needed some DIY, sauna not working and bedroom looked nothing like the photography. No lift in building so had to carry suitcase up, however the man did offer to carry it for me.

Review 37:Loved the location, beaufitful grounds Staff helpful

Review 38:The room was tiny and the bed equally small - it must have been the smallest bed I have ever found in a hotel since about 1970. For some reason a light outside our window turned on and off all night long - I actually slept very little as a result of this and the small bed

Review 39:Dinner as the place is so remote it was easier to eat in

Review 40:Our only negative comment would be that everything was a bit dated and tired looking. A refurbishment or a thorough redecoration wouldn't go a miss! Other than that, there is nothing we could fault.

Review 41:Indoor pool was lovely and kept very clean, bed was very comfortable although room a little bit small for two people staying 11 nights! Staff were brilliant, arranged for the cook to make us fish and chips one night even though it wasn't on the menu and offered to move us to a ground floor room when I hurt my back and struggled with the stairs.

Review 42:rooms tired, could do with a handy man to fix/tighten screws etc. But look at price, can't grumble, just a shame really. pleasant stay though.

Review 43:nice location, nice facilities

Review 44:Shower went from Luke warm to scalding hot continuously

Review 45:Room was clean and comfortable, very helpful and accommodating staff. Value for money.Quiet, even with a wedding reception going on.

Review 46:We were upset, as the picture is of the house itself and not the conference place. The breakfast sausage was not good. Unfortunately we could have the wine we wanted or the cheese board after our dinner as it was 'all being kept for a party the following night'.

Review 47:The place was clean and the pool lovely.

Review 48:Our room was dirty, the bath had stains in it and there were cobwebs on the wall of the bedroom. the chair was also dirty. we were offered another room but it was also the same. we had a refund and stayed elsewhere. the staff were lovely though.

Review 49:15 minute wait at check in due to a problem with a couple in front of us. No lifts. Asked for 3 rooms near each other and offered 2 on the second floor and 1 on the ground. Then offered 3 on the same corridor.

Review 50:Set in lovely parkland. Rooms clean but a bit impersonal. Could tell it was a conference centre. Breakfast good. Good value for the money. 15

Review 51:You will stay in a decrepit 1970s office block attached to the house shown in pictures and fraudulently claimed to be the site of the hotel. The building has a serious mold / mould / mildew problem and a foul smell permeates throughout. Stay here at your peril. Not only a health and safety hazard to guests, one can only wonder what kind of health risks staff are subject to with their chronic exposure to the miasma of decaying building that pervades the air at this state owned, poorly run 'conference centre'. Travelodge feels like a 5 star experience by comparison.

Review 52:The grounds and surrounds were pleasant.

Review 53:Due to the other reviews I was quite worried I made a bad choice but when I got there I thought it was lovely people are expecting to much for such a small price well value for money

Review 54:Lovely grounds wasn't to fussy about the room as not much time was planned to stay in there

Review 55:Wi-Fi not great kept dropping, room felt a little tired. If booking avoid Room 1, noise from corridor of people coming and going.

Review 56:Location is great if you want to be away from it all.

Review 57:Sauna which we were looking forward to wasn't working. 3 different people couldn't find us but our old Sat Nav took us straight there. Double bed pushed against wall on one side. Shower poor. Church bells on Sunday morning were LOUD and repeated and repeated. Could have been due to Remembrance Sunday. We arrived at 2am and guests were returning from a night out and were noisy when we were trying to end a long day.

Review 58:Late check in possible. Lots of space where we could sit with friends. Swimming pool. Park surroundings.

Review 59:Location. Facilities and friendliness.

Review 60:The location is lovely, in the grounds of Lydiard park. Staff were friendly and helpful. The pool and sauna were excellent. The room was comfortable. Tuna steak meal we had was very nice and a good price. I thought this place was a bargain.

Review 61:The noisy neighbours, the bed against the wall and was quite a small double and there wasn't an electric shower,it was through the bath taps which went hot and cold whilst you were in there.

Review 62:The grounds were very beautiful and the staff were lovely.

Review 63:booked 2 nights, stayed for 1. room was disgusting - not as shown on pictures. limited sockets and all electricals were plugged into the 1. overall felt like a bedsit. actual premises is like a prison, in the centre of a park, with parks within the park.

Review 64:nothing in particular

Review 65:only thing would be that the showers can be very inconsistent in temperature

Review 66:friendly staff, nice location, nice rooms, pool and sauna are lovely, really good value for money and the full English breakfast is pretty good too

Review 67:Not very impressed with the state of the bathroom, tiles were loose skirting board scratched and broken. sink not very clean as was the toilet.

Review 68:The Location was stunning, the grounds were lovely to walk round.

Review 69:Dated and Bed was against the wall and uncomfortable, you can hear every door banging. With a little updating this could be a wonderful place to stay and would be able to charge more

Review 70:Location is wonderful

Review 71:Receptionist chatted while phone constantly ringing behind her. Didn't seem very efficient. Bar lady lovely but looked somewhat dishevelled. Run off her feet. No room for us in restaurant to have our breakfast. Woman also run off her feet. Seemed to be on her own. No bread, no milk on table. Poor woman trying to serve everyone with no help. Bed looked like the pillows had been thrown on the bed. One piece of soap for two people. Towels looked used. Wanted to take the place over myself.

Review 72:Budget price I got from Booking.com. Burger meal was very nice and a good size with all the trimmings.

Review 73:I had to give card details on 3 occasions before I'd actually paid. On booking in the receptionist could have told me I still hadn't actually paid, despite the fact she took my card and I keyed in my pin. On booking out I had to present my card and pin yet again!! The receptionist said, lots of people think they've already paid! On booking in it would help to be told I had only made a pre-authorisation and needed to actually pay on departure.

Review 74:Location. Attentive staff at wedding. Excellent bar service and waitressing. Tasty food.

Review 75:That we couldn't stay longer! Loved our time here so much!

Review 76:Amazing setting in the beautiful Lydiard Park. Very reasonably priced and lovely rooms, with friendly staff! Will always stay here when we come to Swindon!

Review 77:Smimming pool was a bit cool and sauna very dark and well used needs a refresh, I didn't want to stay in the sauna at all, it was dungeon like. But the rest was good.

Review 78:Unique location close to town but with an out in the countryside feel. Good value overall

Review 79:No evening restaurant on the day we stayed due to Wedding Fair being held, but we were not warned about this. Very few staff doing lots of different roles which left you waiting.

Review 80:Lovely location. It had a pool.

Review 81:I believe the way the hotel is portrayed on Booking.com is risking infringement of the trades description act. Rather than the grand building in the photos, the actual hotel is a carpark style concrete structure. Also the menu available does not in any way reflect the food in the photos on the Booking.com web site. I was very disappointed.

Review 82:The surroundings of the hotel were stunning. Lydiard House as shown on the Booking.com photos is also very grand. However, please note this is not the hotel, which is not shown in any of the photos.

Review 83:TV needed retune. One set of towels for double room. Double bed one side against wall. Noisy bathroom extractor fan. Room temperature cold. Shower risk of being scalded. Room5.

Review 84:Price

Review 85:Tiny double bed against the wall, dated decor, noisy guests(not the hotels fault I appreciate) don't like being woken at 0400, shower was hit and miss, hot then cold, needs generally upgrading

Review 86:Location, friendliness of staff, lovely breakfast

Review 87:The room was very small and dated, the whole thing could do with an upgrade especially the bathroom.

Review 88:the grounds are stunning and the staff and breakfast were lovely very welcoming

Review 89:The room was not clean, spiderweb with spiders in many places. The bed was very old and uncomfortable. The ceiling and walls need repair. Everything was old and tired.

Review 90:If I was being fussy the rooms are a little 'tired' in terms of decoration but I think that's reflected in the price. It would stop some of my colleagues staying there.

Review 91:Customer service and freshly cooked breakfast with a variety of options is fantastic (and is the bread for toast home made?!)

Review 92:My tall travel companion found the bed a bit short but it's fine if you're of average height or shorter!

Review 93:Beautiful setting, with the grounds and house. Nice pool too. Parking is easy and the place is nice and quiet. Bus stop metres from the gate goes into Swindon town centre.

Review 94:the accommodation block needs a refurbishment, everything looked old and grubby. The indoor swimming pool area was a disappointment, the pool was cold and sauna unpleasant.

Review 95:The staff are friendly, the park and garden are beautiful

Review 96:The place is tired and a bit shabby. There was no hot water in the washbasin and the kettle didn't work. The doors and walls are thin and flimsy.

Review 97:Swimming pool is a good size and open from early until late and the park is beautiful. The breakfast is good too and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review 98:During our stay there was a wedding and the behaviour of some of the guests on our floor (3) was disgraceful and noisy. Once we complained it was dealt with promptly. It was like staying in student digs!

Review 99:The location of this accommodation is amazing and the staff are friendly and helpful. It was nice to have the swimming pool, although a little cold. Breakfast was superb.

Review 100:Double bed pushed up against the wall, no bedside table on that side. Breakfast price different to that on the internet, much more expensive, and internet did not state this would be the case or at check in. We raised this at breakfast time and I think they should have offered us breakfast at the price advertised on the internet. (Receptionist checked that it did only give one price on the internet), so actually they lost our custom all together.

Review 101:In a beautiful spot

Review 102:Unfortunately the bed we had was too small and my husband couldn't sleep as he had to lay on his side due to lack of bed space. He also couldn't lay down in the very short bath as he,s 6foot and bath was only about 41\2 foot.

Review 103:The location was very near to the family wedding we were attending. We didn't really get to see the hotels facilities as we were in and out quickly at 8pm to check in and didn't return until 01:00. Reception staff were very friendly & we were given a ground floor room as requested in our original booking email. Would like to try again at a later date and try other hotel facilities, and maybe a better bed!

Review 104:Smallest room ever. Cold room. Bed lumpy. Food over cooked.

Review 105:Nothing like the advert. Felt like a trade person being shown the back entrance. Pool was not open as promised. Food was twice cooked. Room was tiny and cold.

Review 106:The hotel looked like it had seen better days and was very dirty. Staff were absent on more than one occasion in both reception and the bar area. I would not stay here again and most definitely not worth the money we paid.

Review 107:Couldn't find any little bags in the bathroom. A Travelodge the previous night provided them.

Review 108:The location was terrific, down a long drive and surrounded by parkland. Part of the hotel is in an historic building and we heard church bells nearby at one point which added to the atmosphere.

Review 109:The breakfast waitress was not the most efficient. I never did get the tea I ordered and I had to wait ages before she acknowledged me at all yet she had long conversations with some guests. When I left to have a cup of tea in my room she was texting on her phone in the kitchen

Review 110:It was good to be close to the motorway yet in such a beautiful setting. I wish I'd brought suitable footwear to go for a long walk. The bar maid was very friendly and couldn't do enough OMG in Wagamama sooo out of my comfort zone!for people. The food was excellent.

Review 111:The room was dirty and still had a coat left in the wardrobe. No headboard and the bed pushed up against the side wall so my partner had to climb in over me just to get into bed

Review 112:Staff were friendly in arrival

Review 113:Lack of staff, food not what was advertised on their website ended up with burger that the bun was so dry you couldn't eat it. Stale bread served with starter. Room was cold

Review 114:Set in beautiful grounds

Review 115:Lack of welcome. Some staff unfriendly. Shower wouldn't work. Decor, including room, bit shabby.

Review 116:Good value breakfast. Pleasant location. Room clean. Bed comfortable.

Review 117:the room was much less pretty and smaller than the photos it advertised, the bathroom wasn't in a good condition

Review 118:the building itself and the location are excellent, staff are nice and friendly

Review 119:The rather ugly building that most rooms are in does not really fit in with the otherwise lovely location. Not sure how heritage allowed it to be built on to a Grade 1 house!

Review 120:Very cheap - decent enough room for the price. Lovely location - woke up to church bells and the sounds of the countryside! Swimming pool on site. Cafe next door if you don't make it to breakfast.

Review 121:When we booked we assumed we would be staying in the actual Lydiard house, even the staff said the advert was misleading, lots of people have said the same?

Review 122:The staff were excellent and the grounds were beautiful

Review 123:The menu for food was very basic, although well delivered. More variety is required.

Review 124:Basic but comfortable room. Excellent shower. Generous amounts of coffee, tea etc; good wifi connection.

Review 125:Kettle in the room had a rusty element, but staff happy to swap

Review 126:Awesome homely accommodation set in a gorgeous country setting. Incredible value for money!

Review 127:I only have a few of minor gripes... The double bed wedged into the corner with no bedside table seemed an odd arrangement and little more oomph from the shower would have been good. It wasnt the grand hotel thats displayed on the pictures but a block of rooms out the back.

Review 128:The staff were excellent, very helpful and even managed to rustle up some breakfast when i arrived late due to taking an important call. The grounds are beautiful and the room was spotlessly clean. excellent value for money

Review 129:Pool changing area could have been cleaner. Women's toilet blocked and men's shower not working Bed small for a double. Would book two singles if came again

Review 130:Lydiard Park is a lovely setting Having free access to the pool was great Friendly receptionist

Review 131:Lovely place.. Bed was very nice.. The rooms could do with a little updating... Power out of shower though was amazing.. Was upgraded to bridal suite which was great and staff and breakfast also was lovely..

Review 132:Rooms are located in a building that really recalls chernobyl's sarcophagus rather than the villa shown in pictures.

Review 133:Great value for the money you pay.

Review 134:The room info was misleading, the room was outdated and did not meet the quality expected, the accommodation was shown to be in a large prestigious building and was actually in a building not associated with the prestigious building expected, would not recommend this a place to stay, very disapponted.

Review 135:This venue is very specific to my needs now! It wouldn't necessarily be under other circumstances. You can only use my score for data as a satisfied customer but not for promotional purposes.

Review 136:the bed was pushed up against the wall, making it awkward to use the loo in the middle of the night we did push the bed out from the wall but the the wall light was in the way.

Review 137:The rooms were small but very clean and warm.

Review 138:Not the height of luxury but comfortable enough for the price and fine for a couple of nights. The room seemed pretty tired and the bathroom wasn't very clean.

Review 139:Beautiful location and lovely staff. Enjoyed an early morning walk and a chat with the horses in peaceful surroundings. Staff were lovely, especially the lady serving breakfasts

Review 140:Very small double bed - only 4'. Not a great choice for evening menu.

Review 141:Lots of free parking. Lots of nice walks. Great swimming pool. Nice quiet room. Choice of breakfast. Reasonable price.
