Reviews for Crow How Country Guest House

Review 1:Leaving

Review 2:John and family were very friendly and helpful, lovely place to stay and only 15min walking to Ambleside. Breakfast was beautiful and we would go again.

Review 3:Everything. The staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The breakfast menu is great - plenty of choice and beautifully cooked. The hotel had lovely festive decorations, a roaring fire in the sitting room and we had complementary crackers and chocolates to celebrate New Year. This was our second visit and we had a wonderful time.

Review 4:Lovely friendly staff. Amazing facilities in the premier room. Great location. Good selection of food well cooked with a friendly service. What more could you ask for?

Review 5:We got married in Kendal 11 years ago and had our wedding reception in Crow How. We decided to return for our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised. This guest house has been renovated to the highest standard. crow How will always be special to us and John and his family made us feel so welcome. We were lucky to arrive in Ambleside due to the severe floods and we were well looked after. We will definitely return next year. Fabulous accommodation, great service in beautiful surroundings, perfect combination for a relaxing break!

Review 6:Nothing

Review 7:Good position on the edge of Ambelside but near enough to walk into the village for dinner. The bedroom and bath room are both great and an extensive breakfast menu

Review 8:Nothing.

Review 9:Beautiful quiet location about 10 - 12 mins walk from Ambleside. Lovely large room, nicely furnished. Really excellent breakfasts with good choice.

Review 10:The owner does not allow any take away's on the premises. The restaurants in Ambleside are quite expensive and one must take that into consideration when booking there.

Review 11:Just outside of town. Lovely setting. Very nice breakfast.

Review 12:If we were to be picky we would have preferred a duvet on our bed instead of a blanket because that is what we are used to.

Review 13:We couldn't fault anything. The location, our room, the food and the friendliness was all we could have asked for. A wonderful holiday.

Review 14:A little bit to far for us to go for dinner each night as we walked and it was a bit to dark not a lot of street lights

Review 15:Very clean and lovely breakfast

Review 16:nothing really. It would we good if the lady who takes the breakfast orders were to say hello or smile. Very austere lady.

Review 17:Excellent quiet location. Spacious garden, lounge This is the best place I have stayed over the years in Ambleside. Friendly host Comfortable but small room

Review 18:Both of us thought that as we had booked a premier room, we would have got something a bit better than 'average'. Wasn't very impressed with the breakfast either and you only had an hour window, 8.30/9.30, so couldn't have a lay in, or you'd miss out. Wouldn't go again!

Review 19:The hotel was within walking distance to the town centre.

Review 20:As soon as we arrived (early ) room being cleaned John made us very welcome and provided us with tea in his best silver. Room was amazing four poster and the bathroom was a dream self standing bath but the shower was the best one I have used.

Review 21:Only a small detail but for the price of th accommodation Heinz baked beans would be much appreciated at breakfast!

Review 22:The tranquil and beautiful surroundings. Spacious room and location was central to our trips.

Review 23:At checkout, when I wanted to pay the bill, I learned that the full amount was drawn from my credit card at the day of arrival shortly after 10 pm, before my arrival at 11 pm.

Review 24:Beautiful house, garden, nice clean rooms, perfect tasty breakfast (full Cumbrian if you want). Located ca. 1 km from Ambleside near a bus stop with regular service to Keswick, Ambleside, Windermere, Kendal (every 30 min during the day Mon-Sat) which we used several times.

Review 25:Nil.

Review 26:The hotel was well situated in a quiet corner at the end of a driveway just beyond AMBLESIDE VILLAGE. The room and bathroom were spotless with a comfortable bed. Good selection of fruits and cooked breakfasts.Friendly staff eager to please.

Review 27:The location was wonderful. The staff provided itineraries for drives and hikes and places to eat within walking distance (Ambleside is about a 15 minute walk). Breakfast was amazing - go with the Eggs Hemingway.

Review 28:Only tiny suggestion would a plea for granary bread at breakfast to supplement the already excellent food on offer.

Review 29:Lovely b&b on the outskirts of Ambleside. We had one of the superior rooms which was beautifully presented and extremely clean. Roll top bath and power shower were fabulous as were the DVDs freely available to while away damp days. Staff were really helpful and available till late to help with any enquiries.

Review 30:A hidden gem of a place! Fabulous people , room, bfast and location ..... And you will struggle to find anywhere as clean ever, it's spotless . We had a fabulous week :)

Review 31:Slightly lacking in any visible personal service really expected if a country house hotel. A lot of signs and notices in the room with rules and requests not to do things.

Review 32:Very peaceful location but within walking distance of Ambleside.

Review 33:The hotel is situated just outside of Ambleside making it a lovely peaceful location within a short stroll from the shops and restaurants. Good access to a variety of walks which the hotel staff kindly printed off several guided walks. The room was large, clean and extremely comfortable with a large en-suite bathroom. A good choice at breakfast of cooked breakfast (veggie and meat), cereals and fruit. The staff were very helpful with recommendations of restaurants.

Review 34:Cooked breakfast was fine, but nothing to write home about. Staff were helpful, (if you could find them) but not exactly smiley or proactive.

Review 35:Great location, well off the main read and outside the bustling centre of Ambleside, but close enough (easy walk) to get food and provisions. Beautiful property, lovely views. Nice rooms.

Review 36:Unfortunately wi-fi wasn't working which was a little inconvenient

Review 37:This guest house is situated just out of Ambelside on a small farm. It is an easy walk into the town. Perfect size and very comfortable. Big room with a beautiful outlook on the surrounding hills.

Review 38:None really because we were not charged for a one day earlier departure. They got a booking to replace us...a win win situation

Review 39:The beauty and serenity of the country house, the garden and the farm of sheep and other animals. The commited, industrious staff. Interior decor and the convenient distance from the village where we had most of our evening meal

Review 40:What's not to like.

Review 41:The views surrounding the property and location were amazing couldn't ask for a better place to stay in. The staff were helpful and friendly. The location was ideal as you were pretty much in the middle of the many walks around Ambleside.

Review 42:Location, lights spacious airy room, excellent breakfast both in terms of choice and in preparation.A mere 15 minutes easy walk away from restaurants in Ambleside.

Review 43:Beautiful room with fantastic views. Short walk from Ambleside but worth staying that bit further out of the centre the view certainly made up for it. staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 44:Only a minor issue but WiFi signal that great but still only a very minor issue for an otherwise great stay

Review 45:Nice clean rooms. Large bath & cool shower!

Review 46:Very good and comfortable guest house. It is only a 10 minutes walk to the village with a lot of pubs and restaurant. A lot of choice from the breakfast menu. Helpfull staff

Review 47:The times for breakfast is 8:30 to 9:30. Really quite restrictive. It was ok for us this time but on another occasion we may well have appreciated more flexibility.

Review 48:Bathroom was great and breakfast very good.

Review 49:Breakfasts good but not stunning (would have liked vegetarian sausages and better bread). However, gluten free bread much appreciated.

Review 51:Nothing at all but take a torch if dining in town on dark nights as the roadway up is shared with a farm

The well-appointed rooms, friendly staff, excellent breakfasts, and superior location make this a must-visit site for us on our next trip to the region. What a delightful change from the soulless travel chains and well-known hotels!

Review 65:there was nothing we did not like about crow how

Review 66:this is a wonderful country house guest house. the beautiful building is idyllically located with a wonderful garden. the rooms are excellent, clean and spacious. our bathroom had a whirlpool bath as well as a shower and everything was finished to a very high standard. the choice of breakfast was good and very very nice. a fifteen minute walk into ambleside ensures you dont have to worry about parking. there are plenty of walks around the area some of which are supplied in direction form in the guest pack to use at your leisure. little touches like that are what gives crow how that something extra. i would find it difficult to suggest anything that could be done to make our stay better. it was perfect and we will certainly be back next year.

Review 74:Great setting in a quiet rural location, yet only a short (10 - 15 min) walk from Ambleside village. Superb bathroom and room (room 1). Good breakfast

Review 75:Our purpose for visiting was to relax and get away from it all, and Crow How let us do just that. It was in a perfect spot for quietness and yet only a short walk or drive to things we wanted. The garden was so peacful to sit in, and the veiws were lovely. If we are that way again we would certainly stay there again.

Review 77:We were warmly greeted by the friendly and professional owner. He and his staff couldn't do enough to make our visit special. Situated in a quiet location in superb surroundings we could easily walk in to Ambleside during the day and again for dinner. We had a puncture on our hire car which we discovered in the morning. Our host couldn't be more helpful co-ordinating the replacement of a new tyre with the local garage, while we went out for the day continuing to enjoy our holiday.

Review 86:Sausages (cumbrian) used to Lincolnshire Pork Sausages - suppose we can only expect Cumbrian in Cumbria, don't like long life milk on the tea tray.

Review 88:Could have done with an iron in my room. But the ironing room was adequate
