Reviews for The White Swan

Review 1:Heating didn't work in room although no problem as weather was mild. Confusion at reception over taking card details.

Review 2:Excellent breakfast including veggie breakfast. Staff generally very good.

Review 3:Lovely stay at the White Swan. So comfortable and welcoming. Food is amazing and staff were only too happy to help. Will definitely be back!! Thankyou!

Review 4:It was easy to find, and a nice 20 minute walk into Arundel Town Centre. The food was okay and it was nice to chill in the bar area and enjoy a couple of drinks and order food without having to worrying about going out again. Staff were very helpful.

Review 5:No electric shaver/toothbrush point in bathroom. Few more biscuits and bottled water on arrival would have got a 10 out of 10.

Review 6:Clean room, comfortable mattress. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Review 7:My room was directly above the dance floor of the wedding venue and the music woudl not stop until midnight. No other rooms were available, so I was forced to check out and use a different hotel.

Review 8:The heating in my room was turned off upon arrival so I felt quite cold. The breakfast service was erratic - there was only 1 member of staff taking orders/serving, she tried her best but you would expect more staff on a busy Sunday morning. The breakfast was not the best - mushrooms under cooked - and the servings not generous, the coffee was not a coffee but a strange dark brew, brrr! The hotel is located off a very busy road so expect lot of traffic noise unless you have a room at the back of the hotel.

Review 9:The room was nice, comfy bed. The location was easy to find. The reception staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 10:Dinner wasn't great. No real complaints.

Review 11:Fourth or fifth time I'm stayed here, room 9 was very pleasant, better than some others here. Good service from pleasant staff.

Review 12:The location on a dangerous piece of road, making it extremely difficult to get out of the property, and very noisy. The beds were not great and sagged a bit meaning aching backs, duvets somewhat tired.

Review 13:The friendliness of the staff, log burning fire. Good choice at breakfast and well cooked. Good water pressure for bath and shower. Bedrooms located at rear of property me at road noise did not affect sleep quality.

Review 14:Cosy bar and open fire. Bar meal/food excellent and the red wine!! Bar staff very friendly and attentive Location good for stop over for onward journey as its out of town center and on the main road. Room very quiet at night - no traffic noise

Review 15:Having to wait outside the hotel after door to get in at 12 30 for 25mins because no one told reception we had gone out for the evening

Review 16:Very basic hotel not great value for money

Review 17:The bar had only one ale on tap for three days, having apparently run out previous weekend.

Review 18:Good location, friendly, very comfortable, large bar and cosy eating areas, easy parking.

Review 19:Thought the corridors and doors leading to room were tatty also the bar area where you had breakfast. The bathrooms needed updating and there was damage to the vanity unit

Review 20:The breakfast was good and the staff very helpful

Review 21:Just two negatives: 1. TV reception was so poor it was unwatchable. 2. Why don't some hotels provide a toilet brush? I don't like getting my hands wet so I had to leave a little present for the cleaners :-o

Review 22:Located on the very busy A27 but no road noise in the room I was in. You need good acceleration to get out into the morning traffic though! The room was clean and tidy; albeit the decor was a little worn and chipped in places. Comfy bed and pillows so I had a good sleep. I ate in the bar in the evening. The staff were attentive and friendly, the beer was lovely and the pie and mash was very good for the money. I didn't go for the cooked breakfast the next morning but opted for porridge instead and that was well cooked and tasty.

Review 23:Poor shower head. Towel rail not working. Hot water for Tea/Coffee at breakfast not hot!

Review 24:Room good size, good car parking, food good, nice comfortable bar area

Review 25:Nothing's

Review 26:All staff very pleasant made us feel welcome nothing was too much trouble we had a dog with us and a bowl treats and poo bags were complimentary wonderful thank you for a lovely stay

Review 27:Nothing we didn't like very good all round just not perfect

Review 28:The staff are always very friendly and helpfull and the food is good with a good choice brilliant location Arundel is beautiful good value for money with breakfast

Review 29:The bar area was quiet on the nights we stayed so lacked a little in atmosphere.luckily my wife's brilliant company saved the day.

Review 30:Comfortable surroundings, good beer, great breakfast.clean rooms.Arundel is a £5 taxi ride, take a ride, see the castle and cathedral and have a stroll around town.

Review 31:The evening meal was very good. My wife and I both had rump steak which was some of the best we have had. Breakfast was also enjoyable with plenty of choice.

Review 32:The heating in the room did not seem to work but it was too late in the evening when we noticed this to have anything done about it The extractor fan from the adjacent room was loud enough to wake you from sleep when someone in the next room used the bathroom in the middle of the night

Review 33:The hotel was well located The bar and restaurant staff were helpful and well organised. The food was excellent and value for money

Review 34:If im being picky !!!Bed was hard and uncomfortable, room in need of decorating..Toilet roll holder about to fall off .But saying that we would return ..

Review 35:Friendly staff, excellent food, quiet room, parking was free .easy access to Brighton.

Review 36:Breakfast was very poor - little choice, no cups, spoons etc There was a wedding reception on but we werent made aware of this until we arrived.

Review 37:Very nice welcome when we arrived

Review 38:Loud wedding disco under our bedroom, all amicably sorted our the next morning.

Review 39:Friendly, efficient staff. Can't fault any of them. Our barman (beard and dreads) recommended an excellent, well kept Arundel beer. I ordered a sandwich in the bar for my wife, who had been busy pitchside all afternoon photographing the Bognor v Lowestoft FA Cup match. It was sufficient for us both! Breakfast was very good :)

Review 40:Very nice pub/accommodation, surprised that the rooms were quiet bearing in mind the location. The food was very nice and the bar/restaurant staff were very obliging and pleasant

Review 41:Tired dark room, bed not good.Bathroom needs updating. After travelling afair bit around the UK I must rate the White Swan below average.

Review 42:Breakfast,good value

Review 43:The room was ok, possibly due for a refurb , but clean and tidy. Extractor fans from the kitchen a little noisy early in the morning.

Review 44:Friendly staff and plenty of parking.

Review 45:Si9ngle Bed, Im 6.2 and booked a double bed wont be going back, neither will anyone in my company. Of which 60 were at Goodwood also

Review 46:The food and bar staff

Review 47:Staff seemed distracted and did not engage. Wifi did not reach into the rooms and we had to sit in the bar area to use the wifi. Not actually in Arundel, about 5 minutes drive.

Review 48:Although on a busy road the rooms were at the back and quiet. Overall it was a nice place to stay. There was a wedding reception taking place the night we stayed, but didn't go on too late to keep us up.

Review 49:Bedroom was rather cramped. Lighting (for reading etc.) was poor. Food was OK but pub-like rather than hotel cuisine.

Review 50:Pleasant bar for meals. Good parking. Good location despite the busy A27.

Review 51:Had to change room as overlooking noisy kitchen extractors. Wi-Fi iffy. Satellite TV not Woking on BBC channels. Unchanging restaurant menu and 'specials' gets boring if there more than a couple of nights. Have a lot of weddings/ events etc. - May be noisy -check ...

Review 52:Good staff. Good beer. Large car park. Good location.

Review 53:On our first visit dinner did take a while but it was very busy and all the staff were working hard to cope with it.

Review 54:We've stayed here twice and booked for a third time. We felt very comfortable and for our visits was perfectly located. Service is friendly and professional with an extra mention of a young lady named Efie (apologies if spelt wrong) who is very helpful and hardworking.

Review 55:The only thing to improve was around the breakfast. All the tables that were laid for breakfast had already been used, and not cleared or re-laid. (we arrived almost an hour before the end of breakfast service) The three staff present, were not really doing anything, just pottering around behind the bar counter. Perhaps allowing people to serve themselves buffet-style would be better all round, as it took a while for staff to get round to taking our orders, and even longer to get any cutlery etc. Other than that, we had a lovely stay though.

Review 56:Room was lovely, really comfortable bed, nicely decorated and thoughtful touches in the room. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 57:Strong, overpowering smell of disinfectant in Reception upon entering Hotel. Breakfast staff used same cleaner on tables whilst we were still eating our breakfast which was actually quite unpleasant.

Review 58:Friendly Reception staff. Close to Arundel Castle.

Review 59:Disturbed by Room doors excessive banging shut due to closure mechanism. Room 5 lacking natural light and inadequate ceiling light fittings. Bedside lamps also too dim for reading by. Mould on bathroom ceiling.

Review 60:Attractive building. Good outdoor seating and parking facilities. Pleasant Reception staff. Room size good.

Review 61:Room a little dark would have liked brighter lighting, personal choice, not a problem!

Review 62:Room very clean and well equipped, staff very friendly, good choice of breakfast. Also had dinner, great food generous portions.

Review 63:Inn is situated outside Arundel, so you need your car to get there (too far to walk). Dinner Special of the day was somewhat disappponting (Spanish omelet) but the salad with mango very good.

Review 64:Although it is on a busy road, you will hardly hear any tradfic noise (our room was at the rear of the building). Staff is very friiendly and suggested to park our old car behind the building as it could not be proper locked. Restaurant is warm and cosy with beams and low ceiling, couches and corners.

Review 65:Bed a bit unstable (using wood under one end of the bed) Depleted breakfast buffet and not being refreshed addiquatly for the length of breakfast time.

Review 66:Very friendly staff very good evening meal. Room clean & tidy . Lovely setting.

Review 67:Should have been advertised as pub accommodation. Didn't realise it was above a pub until I arrived. Noisy music up to 11pm. TV in the room is like a computer monitor.

Review 68:Comfortable, nice, clean rooms. Good food and nice friendly staff.

Review 69:Would have preferred a pot of tea at breakfast not going backwards and forwards to tea bar.

Review 70:Nice room, excellent breakfast quiet room at back of hotel clean and staff very helpful

Review 71:Had a couple in the room next door having a massive arguement. I told one member of staff, and nothing happened. Had to tell another member of staff, who didnt seem very bothered, but did go and have a word. No apologies were made to us though, and rows started again at 10.00pm. As the bedrooms re at the back of Wifi NOT available in all the rooms, only in the bar, This should be mentioned before booking as my teenage children didn't want to sit in the bar just to access internet.

Review 72:Fabulous Breakfast. Very clean accommodation. Lady that cleaned rooms, and the hotel receptionist were lovely and friendly. Beautiful surroundings. Pet friendly too. Shower was VERY powerful, if a little painful!.

Review 73:shower not working well at all! also, there was a wedding party until midnight and music could be heard very loudly from room upstairs

Review 74:very clean, friendly staff, super nice premises and bar

Review 75:Wifi did not reach our room at all, but could access well in bar. Cover at foot of the bed smelled like damp/dog but rest of room and bed was very clean and fresh, not a problem, just took cover off!

Review 76:The bed was extremely comfortable and the outside area was beautiful to sit and relax in.

Review 77:one member of staff, not attentive, ignore us at bar and referred to us as ladies at breakfast - married couple and husband does not look like a female

Review 78:lovely big room, comfortable bed and amazing breakfast. Staff helpful - even prior to stay when seeking information

Review 79:I had asked for the twin beds to be made up as a double prior to my arrival (no doubles available), but this had not been done when I arrived which was disappointing.

Review 80:Nice hotel and pleasant staff

Review 81:Very, Very Noisy, no wifi (if there was, it didn't work), no cooked breakfast before 08:30 (were told it was available from 07:30). Consequently charged for B&B and actually had room only.

Review 82:Checking in staff (excellent).

Review 83:Found it overpriced for what it was. The photos online looked better than reality. Decor was tired. Walls needed fresh coat of paint, carpet a little stained, toilet wobbled. Fire alarm went off on the night (false alarm) but scared the life out of us as we'd had an early night! Doors banged very loudly. Generator outside our room was quite loud. Kept losing channels on the TV in the morning.

Review 84:WiFi was great.

Review 85:Bedroom carpet room 1 badly stained and dirty, dull and dark room not even a picture on the walls. Reception area ladies toilets, sinks, toilets and floors all very dirty. No free wifi in rooms and poor reception in only place available in bar lounge area. Bar Staff freindly, but would suggest that all staff reception bar etc, refer to the Premier Inn quality of customer service, even though they are a private hotel. The whole of the hotel, outside and in was in tired, paintwork scuffed, and in some area,s just in need of a good clean. We would not recommend this hotel, unless there was no other option.

Review 86:Good food, and prompt food service

Review 87:Noisy due to being close to busy road. Would have been much better if windows were double glazed. Tv didn't work

Review 88:The food was excellent. Very generous portions. Staff very helpful

Review 89:reception staff on arrival were miserable and un helpful. The price we had been quoted on booking was not honoured and the price to stay was increased.

Review 90:the room was beautifully appointed and to a high standard, the staff in the resturaunt were friendly and efficient. breakfast was extremely good. location was excellent for Goodwood.

Review 91:We got there late and left early all we wanted was a comfortable bed to sleep in but the bed was like sleeping on a trailer bed of an HGV Lorry but a lorry would have provided more comfort! We asked for a mattress topper and were given one for a single bed! Tried to complain to the night porter and later with phone calls but kept being told somebody would call us back but they never do! all we wanted was a comfortable bed for the night and we paid a large amount of money and would have been better of sleeping in the car!

Review 92:Place looks nice and was in a great location for the Festival of Speed, but we would rather stay further away and get a comfortable bed instead of staying here again! Wouldn't recommend this to my enemies, let alone my friends.

Review 93:Wifi was available in public areas but not in our room but as we were only there for one night it wasn't a problem. There was a humming noise outside our room (room 4) that sounded like a cooling system which we could hear throughout the night.

Review 94:The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent. Our room was comfortable though the bed was very warm. We had a bath and a shower in our room and toiletries were provided.

Review 95:The electric light flex on bedside lamps were of an '60 vintage and dangerous, the lighting was of a general poor condition. Call in an electrician, asap. The room could do with a good lick of paint.Such a shame as it was a lovely large and airy room Breakfast was one of the dullest I have had in ages. Do guests really want b.beans with over cooked bacon mushrooms and very thin sliders of black pudding for breakfast? Disappointing. A nice bowl of prepared fresh fruit salad and some cold slices would have been welcome.

Review 96:Good size room with comfy bed.The staff were generally great. I had the seasonal local lamb meal for dinner. It was the best cooked lamb I have had in ages. I was however disappointed by the veg. The menu said, fresh summer veg. What was served with the meal were, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, which had the texture of frozen veg. They spoiled the overall meal experience.

Review 97:We attended a family wedding at The White Swan everything was done to the highest standard & the staff were wonderful & very helpful with every request.

Review 98:wifi connection didn't work in the room, continental breakfast selection could have been a little more inspiring- though cooked breakfast selection was big

Review 99:staff were very friendly, location friendly for travelling and proximity to arundel

Review 100:I feel the food and drinks waere overpriced for what you get. The steak I ordered was bland and I had to pay extra for the sauce.

Review 101:Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 102:Bed was very hard and it was difficult to get wifi in room.

Review 103:Staff was very pleasant and having restaurant on site was very convenient and food was good.

Review 104:Room was ok but a bit tired. Paintwork needs to be refreshed and bathroom unit and door were damaged.

Review 105:Staff were great, very helpful. Good food and nice atmosphere.

Review 106:Road noise, as it was very hot weather and had to leave the window open. Although the rooms are are the back of the hotel away from the road.

Review 107:The staff.

Review 108:Rooms 7 through to 11 tired around edges. Furniture and bathroom fittings showing signs of damage. Breakfast starts at 08.30 to late if you want to avoid the Goodwood traffic!

Review 109:Friendly and helpful staff

Review 110:The Staff. Accomodation was clean and adequate for short or long stay. Breakfast was good, but a shame they couldn't do cooked breakfast for 7.00 am, only continental was available. Cooked was available after 7.30 am.

Review 111:Confusion over Breakfast when booking, I thought booking included breakfast, however this didn't seem to be the case. Free Wifi could be better in the rooms.

Review 112:Good location for Goodwood, good food and bar. Nice and helpful staff.

Review 113:No bath plug. Loose door furniture. TV reception was non existent . TV on last legs. No wifi in room. Goodwood made prices inflated and exit from car park risky.

Review 114:Food was very good if not a bit pricey.

Review 115:N/A.

Review 116:The hotel is well appointed with a good atmosphere and very clean throughout. The staff were at all times friendly and helpful and contributed to our relaxed stay. Our room was light and airy with a view over fields and this was delightful. We were sorry to leave so soon. Additionally, the hotel is excellent value.

Review 117:There was nothing wrong with our room other than some of the furnishings could do with looking at as the cabinet in the bathroom below the sink was peeling and the bedside cabinet was also peeling other than that there was nothing wrong and it was a lovely stay.

Review 118:The staff food and premises were lovely . The breakfast was very good and you had a lot of choice .

Review 119:What happened to that lovely coffee at breakfast it was awful it tasted like Vim It spoiled a really nice breakfast ! I couknt get wi if in my room and the Wifi in the bar was intermittent

Review 120:The breakfast was really good I had 3 evening meals and they were also very good ( like the chunky chips) The coffee from the bar was really really good

Review 121:Wi fi didn't seem to work and the room doors seemed tatty compared to the nice rooms and the rest of the hotel which was excellent.

Review 122:The room was very clean, well furnished and the bath was a good size.

Review 123:Loved the friendliness of the staff and the rooms were great. The breakfast was excellent as was the service. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Lovely pub.

Review 124:The bathroom didn't have a shelf/area to put toiletries and shower was either too hot or too cold.

Review 125:Sunday lunch was excellent, as was cheese board and breakfast.

Review 126:No hot water in shower on day 1...when i was getting ready for a wedding! And no wifi in the rooms, with a patchy phone signal.

Review 127:Nice clean room, with plenty of parking and a decent pub attached. Breakfast not bad, and lovely countryside around. Arundel is a 20 min walk away though it's down a busy road and involves crossing over a few times to stay on the pavement, so wouldn't recommend at dark.

Review 128:Wifi non existent in bedroom so couldn't work. Noise of early deliveries and bottle collection woke me up.

Review 129:The friendliness of staff overcame any shortcomings.

Review 130:Staff not over polite and could have made this an excellent hotel but customer service let it down. Reception empty and had to wait. Had to wait to be attended to for breakfast. Additional staff customer service training needed.

Review 131:Excellent room, food and facilities

Review 132:Travel cot came with just a bottom sheet, no blankets for the children. We used towels to cover them in bed, anywhere we have ever stayed when asking for a travel cot this came with adequate bedding. Disappointing as everything else was nice.

Review 133:Rooms were lovely. Nicely decorated and clean

Review 134:no hot water at 8.30 in the morning, reception said it may have been because we were the first to use the water and suggest we run the bath and sink taps together

Review 135:good location friendly staff

Review 136:The building was tired and required a coat of paint . Basic facilities . Reasonable food.

Review 137:The bar staff worked very hard and were efficient although understaffed

Review 138:Nothing not to like.

Review 139:The room was nice and clean, the bed really comfy and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choice was very good, and very tasty. Arundel a twenty minute walk from hotel. Only downside was the WiFi bit patchy in the room, which is not so good if travelling for work.

Review 140:Not a major gripe but the bathroom cabinet had obviously sustained some fairly heavy water damage and ideally needed replacing. All the doors slammed loudly because of the way the door closers were set and this could have become a problem had we stayed longer.

Review 141:we liked the location just a little outside of the town centre, with country views to the rear. The hotel looked well maintained on approach as did the public areas. We were mildly concerned when we reached the corridor to the room as it did look slightly tired, but the room was pleasant and clean. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Our room was on the ground floor with two windows which made it nice and light. However, I may not have been as keen to have this room in the summer as the outdoor seating area was immediately adjacent to one of the windows and I could imagine that people may want to linger out there until late on a summer evening.

The Fine Print
